Terrence Mawawa|A senior MDC Alliance official has urged the Harare City Council to rename Rufaro Stadium after the late iconic Movement for Democratic Change leader Morgan Tsvangirai.

Tsvangirai, regarded as a doyen of democracy in Zimbabwe rose to prominence during his days as the Secretary General of the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions before the formation of the MDC.

During his days at ZCTU Tsvangirai would address workers on May Day at Rufaro Stadium annually.

MDC deputy treasurer general Charlton Hwende tweeted:
“Our Harare Council must seriously consider renaming Rufaro Stadium to Morgan Richard Tsvangirai in honour of the role he played in
promoting democracy and the rule of law in Zimbabwe.”
