Terrence Mawawa|MDC Provincial Chairperson James Gumbi has described the skirmishes between members of the opposition party and a Masvingo based Newsday reporter on Wednesday night as unfortunate and regrettable.

MDC Alliance supporters had a heated altercation with Newsday reporter Tatenda Chitagu who was filming proceedings during the swearing in ceremony for councillors. The MDC Alliance supporters violently seized Chitagu’ s mobile phone.

Gumbi yesterday said the MDC Alliance was conscious of the need to respect fundamental Constitutional rights and media freedom.

Gumbi also assured media organisations the party would remain committed to democratic principles.
