Police Block MDC 19th Anniversary Again

Jane Mlambo| Police have for the second time refused to sanction the opposition MDC’s 19th anniversary celebrations slated for Gwanzura Stadium this Saturday citing threats of cholera outbreak.

In a letter to MDC dated 25 September 2018, Officer commanding Police, Harare South District, W Muza urged MDC to postpone the celebrations until the cholera outbreak is declared over.

“Reference is made to your notification to hold MDC 19th anniversary celebrations at Gwanzura Stadium, Harare on 29 September 2018 time from 1000 hrs to 1600hrs
“May I take this opportunity to advice you that the government ban on public gatherings following the outbreak of cholera in Harare is still standing.

“In the interest of public safety and total containment of the cholera epidemic, we direct that the intended celebrations be postponed until the epidemic is declared over.

“Meamwhile, the intended celebration is not sanctioned,” noted Muza.

MDC leader has previously announced that he will use the anniversary celebrations to crown himself the people’s president with government threatening to arrest him should he proceed with his plan.
