ZRP To Stay Until Vendors Are Off The Streets Says Newly Appointed Harare Town Clerk

By Own Correspondent| Newly appointed Harare City Council (HCC) town clerk, Engineer Hosea Chisango has said that the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) will remain on the streets of the capital until the relocation of vendors from the central business district to designated vending sites is complete.

Vendors have been resisting the council’s directive for them to move from the CBD in the wake of a cholera outbreak which has to date claimed 49 lives.

In a move aimed at curbing the spread of the disease, government ossued a direvtive for the vendors to relocate to designated vending sites.

The vendors have also been banned from selling food items for fear of fuelling diseases outbreaks.

Said Chisango,

“We have commitment from the Zimbabwe Republic Police that they are going to assist our municipal police until the situation reaches a sustainable level.

The relocation may take some time but we anticipate that the situation will settle down.”-Daily News
