By Own Correspondent- A sombre atmosphere engulfed Bblobboza Village in Binga after a 28 year old man axed his wife to death before killing himself by hanging on a tree.

The man committed the gruesome act after he suspected his wife of infidelity.

The deceased, Fandison Mwinde (28) of Bbolobboza village, under Chief Sinamagonde in Lusulu fatally attacked his now deceased wife Lelani Munenge with an axe.

Matabeleland North police spokesperson Chief Inspector Siphiwe Makonese confirmed the murder-suicide, and believe it happened between Friday night and Saturday morning at the couple’s homestead.

Said Makonese:

“I can confirm we received a report of a man who killed his wife by axing her once on the right hip, once on the right side of her head, just below the ear and then several times on the neck before he went on to hang himself from a tree inside their home.

… At around 5 PM, Munenge received a phone call from an alleged boyfriend, which resulted in an argument between the two. Later at around 8 PM, the woman received a love message from the same man and this time, the couple got into a serious fight, resulting in the fateful incidents.

Mwinde and Munenge had been on separation for some time and the deaths occurred on the day the latter returned to her husband’s place.”- StateMedia
