Beitbridge Town Has New Names For Its Suburbs

Own Correspondent: BEITBRIDGE Municipality has renamed streets, suburbs and business centres in line with its attainment of municipal status and the local authority’s modernisation drive, an official has said.

The town’s housing officer Mr Nicholas Muleya said the exercise was being carried out under the provisions of section 212 of the Urban
Council Act (chapter 29:15).

Beitbridge town was elevated to a Municipality on 9 March last year as part of the government’s initiative to accelerate development at
the country’s busiest port of entry.

These are the new names of suburbs in Beitbridge town.

  1. Milayo Industrial Area——Industrial area including the National Railway station and Manica among other industrial uses (ward 3).
  2. Limpopo View——-The popular Limpopo View which houses the water treatment plant among other uses.- (ward 1).
  3. Matibe——-The place is a new low density area wholly to the east of the railway line. Popularly know as Eastley, the place is provided for by layout plan GE387.(Ward 1).

4.Tshidixwa………………..the Medium Density area to the east of the Beitbridge-Bulawayo highway, where the OJs business center falls. It includes Londa Hotel, The ZRP charge office and Saint Joseph primary school. It is provided for by layout plan GF14. (ward 3).

  1. Kwalu 1—————-A a new high density area to the west of Shuleshule bussiness center which is serviced by Simon Duncan and Patners (SDP) Serviced Area (GD261/1) (ward 5).

6.Kwalu 2———————–The area is a new high density area to the south of the SDP serviced area (Kwalu 1) and to the west of Mfelandawonde. It stretches westwards towards the dumpsite. It is serviced by Forit through layout plan GC401.(ward 4)

  1. Mabidi—-A Medium Density area serviced by Monerf. It is running parallel Siyoka neighborhood to the west along the Bulawayo raod.(GE97)- Ward 6.
  2. Madinginye——A medium density and high density area to the west of Wamlala river and to the North of Saint Joseph primary school. Important uses include a business center on a high land, Wellton College and Adriel preschool.
  3. Vhembe View——–The oldest Low Density area & Central Business District (Ward 1&2)
  4. Dulivhadzimo—–These are the oldest areas of the town which include the bus terminus, the stadium, the Vhembe secondary school, mission primary Matshakada bussiness center and Shuleshule Bussiness center. Old &New Dulivhadzimu- Ward 4 and 5.
  5. Stauze—-The area includes Garikai/Hlalani Kuhle, Alpha, redevelopment houses the so called ‘ma two- rooms area, the government medium density house, and the medium density around the White lodge. Landmark uses include Mashavire, Hambedzi and Hamangavha bussiness centers, the ZAOJA orphanage and the Welton primary school and kids center. These are provided for by layout plans GE88, GC371, GD204) (ward 6)
  6. Siyoka—–This a new low density area which is a ribbon to the west of the Bulawayo road and to the north of the White lodge. It is serviced by Monerf under layout plan GE97-ward 6
