By Own Correspondent- -Nurses and staff at Chitungwiza referral hospital today demonstrated at the hospital parking area accusing the institution’s principal nursing officer of nepotism.
The nurses, held placards and sang songs denouncing Miriam Mangeya, whom they alleged had turned the institution into her personal empire.
Zimbabwe Nurses Association chairperson Kingstone Mutinzwa, confirmed that the extraordinary measures which had been taken by the nurses were as a result of simmering frustrations to their unaddressed concerns.
”Nurses are no longer safe to air their views because of the relatives and friends planted by the principal nursing officer, who feed negative information to her,” said Mutinzwa.
Mtinzwa claimed that efforts to engage Mangeya where not fruitful as she threatened to fire them instead.
”VaMangeya vanobva vati panoti Chitungwiza ndopanoti ini chero ukaendepi ivondavanosara, This has led the nurses to say enough is enough and stage a demonstration for voices to be heard.”
The paper also heard that Mangeya’s maiden surname is Muchakazi and her ‘two surnames’ dominated the team that benefited from a funded cholera vaccination programme.
Some of the general hands are from her church. We urge the ministry to investigate, do head counting and carry job evaluation and assess how Mangeya is administering the health institution,” he said.
Mangeya is on record admitting that she had relatives employed by the hospital but said she never had a hand in selecting people who went for the Cholera vaccination programme.-StateMedia
