By Own Correspondent Opposition MDC leader Nelson Chamisa has implored the current administration to reward tobacco farmers accordingly arguing that it is unfair for government to pay them using bond notes.

Chamisa said contrary to President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s claims that “Zimbabwe was open for business”, the country was shut for business due to the myriad of challenges being experienced by business people in Zimbabwe.

Said Chamisa at a press conference at Morgan Tsvangirai House in Harare Tuesday afternoon:

“Business people cannot do business. The big business people are spending time queuing for fuel. Zimbabwe is actually shut for business.

We note with a heavy heart the obtaining situation on the ground for tobacco farmers. The kind of day light robbery affecting the tobacco farmers where they are being paid using the available currency which even Mnangagwa cannot even pronounce. It is daylight robbery, it is criminal because we not selling tobacco in bond notes. Tobacco farmers should be paid accordingly….

It does not end there. It’s also about every other farmer. Farming has become a cursed business because we have people in government who are not serious about business. Farming has to be about business, productivity empowerment and making sure that we avail to them the necessary support in the markets.”
