By Own Correspondent: The recently gazetted POSA replacement Bill is a clampdown on demonstrations as it authorises the President to deploy the army to quell protests, a Harare lawyer Fadzayi Mahere has said.

Mahere said the new POSA will be abused and unarmed civilians will be killed by the army as what happened in August 2018 and January 2019.

She said:

“POSA is being replaced with POSA 2- 0 a state of the art demonstration clampdown law that authorises the President to deploy the army to quell protests. We already know that this law will be abused. Unarmed civilians will be killed by soldiers as happened in August 2018 and January 2019.”
