Protesters have scored a major victory in Sudan as three generals in the country’s ruling Transitional Military Council offered their resignations.
The three are considered to be avowed Islamists and allies of former President Omar al-Bashir.
The three generals are Omar Zain al-Abideen, Jalal al-Deen al-Sheikh and Al-Tayeb Babakr Ali Fadeel.
Protest leaders had demanded the resignation of the generals as one of their key demands. The BBC quoted, Dr Sara Abdelgalil, of the Sudanese Professionals Association, the main group behind the protests saying:
What we are hoping to do today is to continue our peaceful resistance. Regime members and the NCP [the ousted president’s party] are trying to show themselves as being legitimate to continue ruling the transitional period. – BBC
