By Own Correspondent- Passengers Association of Zimbabwe president Tafadzwa Goliati has implored government to intervene and take action against the ever increasing transport costs revealing that commuters can no longer afford to go to work due to the limited ZUPCO buses servicing most urban routes.
Speaking to ZimEye, Goliati revealed that in Unit J Seke Chitungwiza, commuters had returned to their homes after ZUPCO buses were in no show for hours on end Wednesday morning.
He called on government to at least say something to bring sanity to the transport sector.
Said Goliath:
“In Unit J Chitungwiza, this Wednesday morning, people went back to their homes while the few that could afford the high transport costs, resorted to private transporters. The people are losing hope in the government. If things continue like this, people will end up not reporting for work. Things are very expensive and no one is saying anything or even regulating prices. We are now hopeless. So what is just left is for everyone to just stay at home. ZUPCO buses are very few is they are available at all. People are struggling. Transport is very expensive, the government should intervene. These games should end. It is time for dialogue, we are urging dialogue so that things progress. It is painful and unsustainable especially the transport situation in Harare where most of the commuters are saying that they cannot afford to go to work anymore. They are saying their salaries have been eroded by inflation.
