The Executive Secretary of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), Her Excellency Dr Stergomena Lawrence Tax paid a courtesy call on His Excellency President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa of the Republic of Zimbabwe, at State House in Harare on 21st June, 2019.


President Mnangagwa is the Incoming Chairperson of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation, and he will become the Chairperson after the August 2019 SADC Summit of Heads of States and Government. The Chairperson of the SADC Organ is rotated on an annual basis, and currently, his Excellency President Edgar Chagwa Lungu of the Republic of Zambia is the Chairperson, while Angola’s President, H.E João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço is the Outgoing Chairperson.


During the meeting, the SADC Executive Secretary, briefed the Incoming Chairperson of the SADC Organ on several issues including; the political and security situation in the region; initiatives that SADC has undertaken since the last Summit held in August 2018; as well as on the requirements, and Minimum Standards for hosting the SADC Organ meetings.
