Bulawayo Mayor Solomon Mguni and all his councillors left Energy and Power Development Minister Fortune Chasi stunned with egg on his face after they walked out on him from a meeting called to discuss the proposed demolition of the Bulawayo Power Station towers on Friday.
Chasi was meeting a few stakeholders at a secretly organised meeting at ZESA boardroom at the power station over the issue of the cooling towers which must be demolished soon.
Chaos around the meeting emerged before talks even started when the stakeholders and councillors questioned why the Minister called them into the small private venue to discuss an issue that affects the greater citizenry of Bulawayo.
The Mayor was given an opportunity to speak in opening remarks where he took swipe set ZESA and the Minister for illegally hijacking ownership of the power station from the City of Bulawayo.
Mayor Mguni said his Council will not allow a lodger to dictate how its property is treated before walking out with his councillors leaving the Minister stunned .
An angry Chasi took swipe at ZESA management for failing to engage council before inviting him for the dialogue and why they did not consult the Council, the local planning authority on the project to demolish the towers. He acknowledged the council is aggrieved over the issue.
ZESA and Council have a pending court case regarding ownership of the towers.
