By A Correspondent: In his Heroes Day message, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has said violence, discord, disunity, hatred, division, discrimination, tribalism, regionalism and corruption have no place in the new Zimbabwe calling on citizens to reject them.

He said:

“Today on Heroes Day, let us honour the sacred sacrifice and rich heritage of gallantry our heroes left for us by pledging to put our country first.

Let us all build on this great legacy. Present and future generations must be brave and proud protectors of that heritage, lest we forget.

We also recognise and honour all those ordinary everyday heroes and heroines; the villagers, men, women, boys, and girls who contributed in their own ways, towards the liberation war effort.

And let us remember that it is this experience which makes us value peace today. As such the defence of the peace and stability we enjoy must be undertaken with the same valour and vigilance with which we liberated our lands.

Violence, discord, disunity, hatred, division, discrimination, tribalism, regionalism and corruption must be categorically rejected. They have no place in the new Zimbabwe.

Mutual respect, love, equality, peace, commitment, loyalty, cooperation and harmony must now be the order of the day.”
