The MDC Youth Assembly notes with serious concern and dismay at the state’s fascist antics to muzzle and stifle citizens rights to demonstrate, freedom of expression and freedom of association.

It is crystal clear that democracy is now under siege from state repressive machinery and belonging to a political party outside ZANU PF is now a criminal offence.

In a space of just more than a year after stealing elections, Emmerson Mnangagwa has swiftly and successfully turned the country into a fully fledged military state where commandeering reign supreme.

The rule of law and the country’s supreme law, the Constitution have been thrown into the pit latrine.

Dambudzo, as Mnangagwa is referred to has successfully debilitated Zimbabwe into a lawlessness society, where guns, baton sticks, teargas, illegal arrests, torture and abductions reign supreme.

The beatings, crushing and subsequent arrests of peaceful demonstrators in Harare on Friday signals the death of democracy and the reincarnation of colonial fascist methods on the shores of our motherland.

Yesterday’s unfortunate events in Bulawayo whereby our party National Chairperson, Thabitha Khumalo and seven others were illegally arrested is a clear testimony and declaration of this regime’s intention to outlaw multiple political party system of modern democracies.

As an Assembly of young social democrats, we condemn Emmerson Mnangagwa’s reign of terror and we have a generational mandate and duty to make sure that the rule of law returns to our doorsteps.

We reiterate our commitment to bring this dictatorship to a screeching halt albeit through non violent methods.

As an Assembly we are not going to watch while Mnangagwa is leading us back to the dark era of the colonial 60s and 70s.

Our demands are clear, genuine and realistic.

Our homes are now houses of hunger where poverty is the only is the only thing that we possess!

We are conscious of where our problems are stemming from, which is the legitimacy question and up until that question is addressed we will not rest nor resign from the streets.
