The continuation of human rights abuse by the Zimbabwean government clearly shows that there is no sign of joy for the people of Zimbabwe.

Arrests, abductions and torturing of civilians, opposition leaders, opposition members and artists has become the order of the day.

This year a number of civic society leaders were abducted and tortured. These include members of the Association of Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) such as president Obert Masaraure, Doctors Union of Zimbabwe chairman Dr Peter Magombeyi and one of Zimbabwe’s top female artist comedienne Samantha Kureya popularly known as Gonyeti. She was abducted, tortured and accused of furthering the regime change agenda through her commedy skits.

Gonyeti is not the first artist to live under such life threats and human rights abuse; there is also a musician who was into transport business Innocent Sibanda together with his brother Brighton Sibanda. The two were owners of a transport company known as Innocent and Bright lntake.

According to their relatives the Sibanda brothers were last seen in 2017 after they escaped attack from a ruling party ZANU PF former militia youth group popularly known as Chipangano.

A group that was formed to terrorize opposition supporters, according to a band member who declined to be named for security reasons, he said “lnnocent lnnoman the band leader of The Harare Afros and his brother were attacked! Since then, they ran away we do not know their whereabouts.”

Chipangano is a group which was controlling the Mbare musika bus terminus during days of Mugabe’s rule.

Innocent and Brighton were accused of providing their bus services to MDC political party which was led by the late former Prime Minister and opposition leader Morgan Richard Tsvangirai.

Another incident of police brutality happened last week when one of the vendors Hilton Tafadzwa Tamangani died in custody at Harare Remand Prison as a result of injuries sustained from assult by the police.

Hilton well known as dread for his dreadlock hairstyle was a vendor at QV Pharmacy in Harare and was arrested together with other ten vendors.

Human Rights lawyers wrote an application for them to get treatment but the letter was dismissed.

Human Rights defenders activists are also among those who are facing human rights abuse, abductions, torturing and disappearances.

ltai Dzamara is one of those who disappeared and his wherebouts remain unknown despite all the efforts from pressure groups through hashtags such as #BringltaiDzamaraback and campaigns held every year.
