By A Correspondent- Godfrey Malunga (38) recently appeared before Bindura magistrate Pamela Chimhini for allegedly kidnapping a Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officer, Constable Joseph Paribendipo.

Constable Paribendipo was in the company of other police officers from the ZRP traffic section manning a roadblock at the 85b kilometre peg along the Mukumbura–Bindura highway on 13 September this year.

When Paribendipo had flagged Malunga to a halt to ascertain whether he was a certified driver, just as he sat in the car, the accused took off at great speed and the other police officers gave chase in a patrol car.

Malunga beat Paribendipo along the way before he was arrested. He has denied all charges. He was remanded in custody to November 4 when he will stand trial.
