The Beitbridge District Hospital mortuary has stopped accepting corpses due to long spells of power cuts and the rising temperatures in the border town.
The hospital, in a notice, said their machinery has been rendered useless due to the cuts and heat.
“Notice is hereby given that Beitbridge District Hospital has temporarily suspended mortuary operations with immediate effect.
“This decision has been brought about as a result of the lengthy power cuts and high temperatures being experienced hence rendering the mortuary equipment non-functional,” read the notice.
“As a result of this no new bodies will be accepted for storage in the mortuary.”
The government has struggled to provide adequate power to the people due to dwindling water lavels at the Kariba dam and failure to pay South Africa and Mozambique who supply the country with power.
