The following is an update from the Masvingo Intercape bus accident in which there was one reported fatality Tuesday morning

The deceased is an assistant driver of the Harare-bound coach.

The man whose relatives contacted ZimEye soon afterwards, died on the spot near Masvingo Showgrounds along the Harare-Masvingo highway on Tuesday morning.

Sources told ZimEye he fell off the same bus after it hit a Toyota Hilux which had indicated to turn left but later proceeded moving straight ahead.

A recovery vehicle had arrived when ZimEye got to the scene.

Commenting on the accident, Masvingo police spokesperson Chief Inspector Charity Mazula said it occurred at around 10 am.

She said the bus swerved off the road and hit a tree as it tried in vain to avoid the truck.

The latest details revealed at the time of writing were that all the 57 passengers aboard the coach escaped. There were suggestions that no one was unhurt. This was still under review at the time of writing. – THIS IS A DEVELOPING STORY – REFRESH FOR THE UPDATE
