A 25-year-old Mazowe thief was sentenced to 2 years behind bars by a Concession magistrate yesterday.

Dickson Kashoti will spend 16 months in prison after magistrate Nyasha Machiriori conditionally suspended 8 months.

Prosecutor Kumbirai Nyamvura told the court that on February 19 in the morning Kashoti waited for Otilia Gunyunyu at a footbridge at Mazowe dam and demanded all her belongings before threatening to hit her with a stone.

Gunyunyu screamed for help but no one came to her rescue, Kashoti then stole her handbag containing money and her mobile phone before running away.

She went and filed a police report leading to the arrest of the convict.
