By A Correspondent- Government officials in Chikomba district on Friday appealed to local businesspeople to donate food to feed returnees who are running out of basic provisions at the St Francis of Assisi High School quarantine centre.

The officials held a meeting with local businesspeople and asked for food, clothes and cash donations to improve the welfare of the 29 returnees.

Addressing about 100 local businesspeople gathered at the council hall, Chikomba district development coordinator Michael Mariga, who is the chairperson of the local Covid-19 taskforce, said there was urgent need for locals to assist in addressing the shortages at the quarantine centre since the provisions from the government through social welfare were running out.

“There are 29 returnees including two children at the St Francis of Assisi quarantine centre and 17 of them recently tested positive to Covid-19,” Mariga said.
