Date Set For Mupfumira Trial

By A Correspondent- The trial of  Prisca Mupfumira in which she stands accused of siphoning public funds amounting to US $95 Million from National Social Security Authority (NSSA) will kick off on 19 October.

According to the publication, the state which will be led by George Manokore has notified magistrate Trynos Utawashe that they are ready to proceed:

Prosecutor George Manokore yesterday told magistrate Trynos Utawashe that the State was now ready for trial after several false starts, with Priscilla Mupfumira’s lawyer Advocate Silvester Hashiti threatening to file for refusal of further remand in protest over the delays.

 

risca Mupfumira is facing 7 counts of frauds as the state alleges that she siphoned $95 million from NSSA and bought properties in Asia, Europe and South Africa.

Mupfumira who was publicly arrest last year in July and was in remand for close to a month before being released on bail has denied the allegations levelled against her that she used pensioners’ money to buy properties in Dubai, South Africa and the United Kingdom.

President Mnangagwa fired Prisca Mupfumira from her job as a cabinet minister after she was released from prison and her case could not commence at some point as she was said to be suffering from mental instability.-Newsday
