Opposition MDC Alliance youth leader and Masvingo Town councillor Godfrey Kurauone is sueing Police Commissioner General and all officers involved in his arrest over $2 million for what he calls “wrongful and malicious arrest. ”

Kurauone was last month acquitted of all the flimsy charges and freed after spending 42 days in remand prison.

Kurauone, who was facing charges of criminal nuisance and obstructing traffic, was acquitted after the state failed to prove its case in court.

The state was accusing the councillor of posting a video of a song in which he called for immediate removal of President Emmerson Mnangagwa. The state also alleged Kurauone also burnt vehicle tyres along the Mashava-Zvamahande road disrupting the smooth flow of traffic.

He was arrested by officers from the Law and Order Section in Masvingo Town while reporting at the police provincial headquarters in fulfilment of his bail conditions for a similar case.

Below is the full outline of his case against the police.
