Gweru City Council unleashes Debt Collectors On Residents
17 May 2021
By A Correspondent- The Gweru City Council has unleashed debt collectors who are attaching properties of residents failing to settle their rates bills.
some residents who owe the council over $70 000 were last week visited the deputy sheriffs officials and had their properties attached.
The development has been condemned by resident’s associations in the city who feel that the local authority was insensitive.
In January, the council effected a 146percent tariff increase in the approved 2021 budget, which resulted in residents receiving ballooning bills as well as final demand letters to settle debts.
