By A Correspondent| Government has announced the prohibition of Chitungwiza and Norton residents from coming to Harare saying it is considered as inter-city movement.
Under the extended level 4 national lockdown, intercity movement is banned as part of measures to curb the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.
In a statement Friday afternoon, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services, Nick Mangwana said government was worried by the continued disregarding of travel prohibitions by people.
“Government has noted with concern that in spite of the ban on intercity travel, some people are still travelling between cities for various non-essential reasons. This has resulted in worrying surge in Covid-19 cases in the country.
“The public is reminded that under extended Level 4 lockdown announced by his Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa on 13 July 2021, intercity travel is prohibited,” said Mangwana.
“As an example movement between Chitungwiza and Harare or Norton and Harare is considered intercity travel and therefore prohibited,” added Mangwana.

Mangwana said they will be intensify police checkpoints to ensure that members of the public comply with the measures.
