In a move that has raised eyebrows, the ruling Zanu PF party is reportedly using state funds to construct lavish party offices in Masvingo, a project that critics argue is being funded at the expense of struggling citizens.

Sources within the party have claimed that money has been coerced from government departments to fund the construction, sparking outrage over the misuse of public resources.

According to party insiders, the project in Masvingo, which includes the building of expansive and state-of-the-art offices, is expected to be completed by December this year. This comes at a time when many Zimbabweans are grappling with worsening economic conditions and a lack of basic services.

Masvingo Minister of State Ezra Chadzamira confirmed the ambitious project, stating, “By December this year, the project will have been completed.” While Chadzamira did not directly address concerns over the use of state funds, his comments underscore the scale and importance of the project in the region.

Rabson Mavhenyengwa, the Zanu PF Masvingo provincial chair, further elaborated on the grand plans for the new headquarters. “We will also have space to hold our inter-district meetings on top of the conference centre that will accommodate 10,000 people. This is a new era for Masvingo,” he said, highlighting the significance of the development.

The building of a conference centre with the capacity to hold 10,000 people is being touted as a key feature of the project, signaling the party’s ambitions to create a massive venue for political gatherings. The infrastructure is intended to serve not only as party offices but also as a space for large-scale events and meetings, further consolidating Zanu PF’s presence in the region.

Critics, however, are expressing concern over the priorities of the ruling party, especially at a time when the country is facing economic challenges. The funds being channeled into such an extravagant project are being seen by many as a glaring example of how public resources are being diverted to serve party interests rather than addressing the pressing needs of the Zimbabwean people.

“This is a clear misuse of state resources,” said one concerned local resident. “While ordinary citizens are struggling to make ends meet, the government is pouring money into building luxurious offices for a political party. This is not what the people need.”

As the project continues, the controversy over the use of state funds to build the Zanu PF offices in Masvingo is likely to intensify, with many questioning the government’s commitment to addressing the basic needs of the citizens it is meant to serve.
