By Ndaba Nhuku|PEOPLE FIRST party leader Joice Mujuru has been landed a shattering blow with the resignation of the prolific youth and influence-peddler, Jim Kunaka, just as Mujuru is ordered to leave office with immediate effect.
Kunaka is a key Didymus Mutasa lobbyist and his resignation signals the total destruction of the party since Mutasa is its Spiritual Father.
During the time when ZimEye last month revealed the Chirenje implosion, Kunaka would within minutes telephone ZimEye.com dismissing the news coverage as nothing but deception[ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW].
But Kunaka has since arrived at reality, announcing his resignation on Saturday in Shona, writing: “Builders ndinotenda nekushanda tose kwatakaita kuti People First ivepo. Ini ndakundikana ndagumira pano. Ndatenda – [Builders I thank you for our working together to give People First a puff of life. As for me I suffocate out; I end here. I thank you.]” he concluded.
The development revealed at first by ZimEye.com in an exclusive expose’ on the embarrassing Chirenje implosion, comes at a time when Mujuru was being ordered to leave office.
Commenting on the development last week as Mujuru’s house was besieged by roudy youths, spokesperson Rugare Gumbo admitted things are not well. Gumbo confirmed the party was facing problems and said efforts “were underway to identify the root causes and find solutions, and only then would we communicate its position with the press”.

Joice Mujuru’s Zimbabwe People First (ZimPF) party in trouble? What trouble?
Mujuru’s party has no troubles to write home about. Its main problem is that its leadership is a collection of angry, vengeful and jobless yet formerly pampered individuals who still want to go back to their home, Zanu PF. These are people whose real desire is well summed up by one of theirs: “Most of them are characters who have never known anything else but the sheltered life of patronage where positions and proximity to power in Zanu PF enabled them to access and amass personal fortunes in the form of cars, houses and land, among other things,” said a party insider who refused to be named.
Some of them just joined Zanu as a ticket to ill acquired wealth. Some have never known what political competition is and have always been appointed by their god, Mugabe to various party positions. If not appointed by Mugabe, or by Mujuru herself, they had provincial party gods to thank for not being challenged in their provinces; Didymus Mutasa, Sylvester Nguni, Kudakwashe Bhasikiti, Rugare Gumbo, Bright Matonga, Nicholas Goche, and Webster Shamu.
Now that Mujuru who was always a Mugabe appointee is out of power, her guys are now disheartened with her because she is unable to offer opportunities for patronage and self-interest, yet they need to survive. The success of the ‘businesses’ they claimed or owned always depended on their membership to Zanu PF. Save for Sylvester Nguni, some of them never really had an honest job or business. So what will they do other than go back to kneel before Dr. Stop-It and plead for forgiveness?
Mujuru must let someone younger inject enthusiasm and energy into the party if she doesn’t want to see it melt away. She should become its godmother and give only direction and guidance, not leadership.
