Ben Gore |The President Robert Mugabe son-in-law run broke national airliner Air Zimbabwe pulled another shocker yesterday after its Airbus A320 carried just three passengers, on the Harare to Jo’burg route.
A flabbergasted businessman Shingi Munyeza posted a picture on twitter in which he cut a lonely figure in the large aircraft.
Wrote Munyeza, “A rare privilege for me with 2 other passengers aboard #Airzim flight UM9461.#3Passengers HRE to JNB on Airbus A320,departure delayed by 1hr.”
The Mugabe son-in law run AirZim’s losses were $15 million in 2016.
A parliamentary committee was recently told that the airline was this year targeting to increase revenue to $47 million from $36 million if it manages to resume long haul flights, particularly the lucrative Harare-London route. The airline last operated the route in 2012 when it was expelled from the International Aviation Transport Association (IATA) clearing house after accumulating fee arrears. That debt now stands at $3.5 million.
Oh please. How is it a shame when Air Zim has flown a single passenger before. By-the-way, that dude doesn’t look “flabbergasted” to me all smiley faced and what not. FYI, the president’s son-in-law has a name. Poor journalism!
This is a very lucrative route and Air Zim has to introduce competitive fares. You don’t need 800 employees, 60 can do the job.
I thought that it was a re-positioning flight after maintenance. You seem to have inside info, so please tell is how did it happen that of all airlines out OR, Air Zimbabwe ended up with an extra plane that needed ferryingback to dispersal under under code 9?
This is a short notice ferry flight…..how do you market a flight that is not in the system. it should be pointed out that Shingi Munyeza arrived late for his booked SA flight, missed it ,and by chance he was accommodated on the Air Zimbabwe ferry flight. And being anti-establishment that he is…..its not surprising that he created this social media hype
Siyanai nemukuwasha wangu. Enyu ma combi paanomboita diff makambotaurwa nani
BASA KA IRO VANA DR GRACE MARUFU…CHITIUDZAI TINZWE KUTI ZVODINZWI……KWETE KUSWERA KUSHAUDHA VANHU PATUMA PETTY MAHUMBWE…MADHAKANANA RALLIES
But why not market that 9. . . flight to make it at least break-even. Obviously someone or some people at Air Zimbabwe knew of this “re-positioning” flight long beforehand.
I remember long ago the very popular Air Rhodesia / Air Zimbabwe Saturday night Vickers Viscount aircraft operated “sky coach” flights between South Africa and Zimbabwe that were not only popular but dirty cheap too.
I know him, he is a pilot without any doubt. He even flew for Air Zimbabwe at some point. Anyone saying that he is not a pilot is not telling the truth.
According to stories about him, he is a pilot though they is no concrete proof about.
UM9461 is in fact a ferry flight en route to fulfil flight UM462 – JNB-HRE evening flight. That digit 9 indicates a ferry flight and may move without passengers to position an aircraft in fulfilment of the timetable. See flightradar24.com. Just a correction ZimEye!

I actually think Simba has made a positive impact, comparably.
Chikore was a desk operator at Emirates and never a flew plane.Zimbabweans were sold a dummy.
APPOINTED BECAUSE HE WAS HIS EXCELLENCES SON IN LAW! WHAT YOU SEE IS WAS YOU GET!
