Poor adminstration at the Zimbabwe Football Association led by Philip Chiyangwa continues to cost the cash strapped football body much of its meagre resources.

In the latest bungling the body has been ordered by the labour court to pay $187 290 to former Mighty Warriors Coach Shadreck Mlauzi.

The money is for outstanding salaries while he was in charge of the senior women’s team. Mlauzi was relieved of his duties in February last year.

The labour court awarded outstanding salaries and allowances for 8 months between September 2015 and February 2017. Mlauzi claimed that he was supposed to have been on a salary of $7 000 per month excluding allowances.

The court ruled that ZIFA should pay 45 290 within the first 30 days, with the remaining amount being paid in subsequent installments of $7 000 per month on or before the end of each month until the debt has been cleared.

Zifa was also ordered to pay legal costs.

The football body tried to dispute the $7000 monthly salary but records established that the Zifa chief executive officer, Jonathan Mashingaidze, had confirmed that the agreement was that Mlauzi would receive the same salary as his counterpart, the male coach Calisto Pasuwa.

Mlauzi successfully took the Mighty Warriors to the 2016 Rio Olympics for the first time in the history of Zimbabwe women’s football. He followed that up by also helping the Warriors qualify for the Women’s African Cup of Nations that were held in the same year in Yaoundé, Cameroon.

The football association’s non-payment of an outstanding debt to the former Warriors coach José Claudinei Georgini led to Zimbabwe being expelled from the preliminary competition of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
