Below is the full text of the MDC message.

The MDC has learnt with great sadness the passing on of one of its illustrious founding member and National Organising Secretary for the Assembly of Women, Hon Josephine Value Chitembwe.

Hon Chitembwe succumbed to breast cancer, which she has battled with over the last two years.

As the Assembly, we join the Chitembwe family, and the MDC family in celebrating a remarkable life of courage, service and sacrifice. We celebrate an extraordinary life of a woman who devoted her life to democracy and women empowerment.

The Assembly stands as a testament to the power of her organising. Her legacy will stand as an example for us to persist in our pursuit to attain the much talked about 50/50 representation.

Her death is a blow to us as women, in particular as we prepare for this year’s crucial harmonised elections.

We reflect on her dedication to the struggle for democracy and inherit her fighting spirit until democracy reigns in Zimbabwe.

Go well daughter of the soil. May your work and fruits speak for you. You ran a good race and may your dear soul rest in eternal peace in the arms of the Lord.
