MDC Masvingo Provincial Chairperson who tendered his resignation letter last night claimed he did so in the interest of the party.

However party insiders revealed Gumbi was forced to step down after his plot to impose a candidate of his choice in Masvingo Urban Constituency had been thwarted by the party’ s vanguard members.

In his letter Gumbi claimed he was struggling to cope with pressing commitments.

“Due to pressure of work I have decided to step down as MDC T Masvingo Provincial Chairperson and tomorrow (today) I will officially hand in my letter to the president. I want to thank you all for your support since 2014.However I will remain the MDC Alliance candidate for Zaka East Constituency.”

Masvingo Provincial Information and Publicity Secretary Dusty urged party members to remain calm after Gumbi’ s resignation.
