By Own Correspondent| The Voice Of the People Economic Empowerment Group (VOPEEG) has urged the MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa to accept defeat for the just ended harmonised polls arguing that refusal to concede defeat by the opposition was detrimental to social and economic progress in the country.

Nyasha Munangwa, Secretary General of VOPEEG  said Zimbabweans should give the disputed President elect Emmerson Mnangagwa a chance to steer the country forward since he possessed “mature leadership qualities to change the country’s economic fortunes”.

Below is the full statement by the VOPEEG.

“We are greatly disturbed by a culture of incitement and violence which has become the hallmark of some of the losing candidates in the just concluded harmonised elections ,particularly the MDC Alliance leaders who have made a deliberate and conscious decision to disregard and subvert the will of the people by refusing to accept the Presidential election results.

We truly believe that such a contrary spirit is detrimental to both the social and economic development of our beloved Zimbabwe.

If indeed the MDC Alliance has the interests of the Zimbabwean people at heart as they want the world to believe, why don’t they do the honourable thing i.e accept the results which we believe reflect the true will of the people of Zimbabwe and allow the country to move forward?

Zimbabwe cannot be held to ransom by a few power hungry individuals who think that governing a country in a dire economic situation like ours is kindergarten stuff. The business of extricating our country from the jaws of total economic collapse is a serious one which demands a substantial degree of maturity and soberness and we believe that HE President ED Mnangagwa possesses those qualities.

Our situation is peculiar which requires mature leaders of unquestionable principles who can unite our people at this critical juncture. We therefore call upon all retrogressive forces to abandon their selfish interests and join hands the with the President elect and his government as he embarks on an extraordinary journey of rebuilding our great nation.

To our fellow Zimbabweans we say let us all get out of the election mode and position ourselves for the soon to be released economic opportunities.

We implore all Zimbabweans regardles of our tribe, colour or creed to rally behind President ED Mnangagwa as he continues with the journey of bringing healing to our wounded nation and forster economic development, the journey which he began in November 2017.In our view,it would be totally unfair and insensitive to have expected President Mnangagwa to bring total economic recovery within a period of 8 months he has been at the helm.

What cannot be denied though is that he has done exceptionally well and is on the right path. The results are there for all with clean hearts and clear consciences to see.

Together we can give birth to a Zimbabwe we all wish for.
