By Own Correspondent| The MDC T faction led by Dr Thokozani Khupe has taken the country’s elections body ZEC to court over electoral irregularities in Matabeleland North which saw the party failing to secure the Senatorial and Proportional Representation (PR) seats.
The matter was heard at 10 am (Tuesday) at the High Court by Justice Mangota.
Party Spokesperson Linda Masarira confirmed the development and said following the announcement of the election results by ZEC, her party noted that it had garnered more than 5 percent of the vote hence was supposed to represent Matabeleland North in the Senate and PR seats.
Said Masarira:
“Our party noted electoral irregularities in Matabeleland North and we challenged ZEC over the issue.
As is the law, ZEC cannot nullify the results on their own despite acknowledging the error.
Our party secured more than 5 percent of the vote and we are supposed to be represented for the Matabeleland North Senatorial and PR seats.”
