5 September 2018

Terrence Mawawa| The Meteorological Services Department has predicted severe drought due to El Nino effects.
In a statement the Meteorological Services Department warned that the country would experience drought due to the effects of El Nino.
The department also urged farmers to brace themselves for a dry spell and an inconsistent rainfall pattern in the 2018- 2019 farming season.
However Lands and Agriculture Minister, Perrance Shiri told state television the government had already set up mitigatory measures to alleviate drought.
“We have already put in place drought mitigation measures to avert starvation.
We urge farmers to grow drought resistant crops like sorghum and millet,” said Shiri.
