Correspondent|unlicensed Harare kombi driver who crushed into one of the cars in Vice President Constantino Chiwenga’s motorcade was on Tuesday sentenced to an effective 30 months behind bars.

Harare magistrate, Babra Mateko found Silent Hungwe, (30) guilty of driving without a licence and also for negligence driving.

He was sentenced to 12 months in jail for driving without a licence and 18 months for negligent driving. Hungwe was given a life ban from driving public transport.

Prosecutor Isheanesu Mhiti managed to prove that Hungwe did not check his car before taking the commuter omnibus on the road.

An officer with the Vehicle Inspection Department who testified in court proved that the omnibus had no certificates of fitness before the accident happened and it was unfit for the road.

The incident occurred on August 24 at corner Borrowdale Road and Kingsmead.

Hungwe is said to have avoided cars that had blocked the road paving way for Chiwenga’s motorcade.

He hit one of the cars that was part of the convoy on the right rear side.
