Farai Dziva| Manchester City retained the Community Shield, becoming the first English team to win four domestic trophies in a calendar year.

City were pushed all the way by Liverpool before prevailing in a penalty shoot-out.

“The difference is one point ahead, one penalty ahead. It’s minute,” City manager Pep Guardiola told The Telegraph.

That City’s second-choice goalkeeper Claudio Bravo proved to be the hero was another twist in the plot with the 36-year-old Chilean not only producing a series of outstanding saves to deny Mohamed Salah but also turning away Georginio Wijnaldum’s penalty in the shoot-out -and all this in Bravo’s first game for 364 days – since last season’s Community Shield.

The closeness and the drama of it all was summed up in an incident deep into injury-time when Salah was presented with one last chance as he ran through only to be denied again as John Stones blocked his shot before he could test Bravo.
