By Business Reporter- The Chinese company at the centre of a leaked video of workers being paid in coins spoke in December saying these are just cushion allowances.

Sunny Yi Feng is the same company previously in trouble with Norton MP Temba Mliswa.

Sunny Yi Feng employs 1 193 locals and is producing 30 000 – 35 000 square metres of quality tiles per day for both the local and export market. 70% of the tiles are exported to countries in the region including South Africa, Mozambique, Zambia, Malawi, Botswana and the DRC.

Publishing on new years’ eve, Sunny Yi Feng Tiles said:

“It looks like there is a bit of misconception on this video trending. Considering the harsh economic environment we are operating in we give of valued staff cushion allowances. It’s of great importance for all our valuable stakeholders to understand that these are not salaries.

“Some might be shocked by the use of scale to weigh money , this is indeed a creative way of making a quick payments to our 1700 employees. We have the understanding that coins contain the same value in terms or value and weight and therefore the values are homogeneous.”
