Local Government minister Ignatius Chombo yesterday warned vendors that the services of the army and police will be enlisted if they refuse to move to designated sites.
Addressing a press briefing in Harare yesterday, Chombo said the Joint Operations Committee (JOC) – a think-tank of top security commanders – will enforce the law. Brigadier general Anselmo Sanyatwa, a member of JOC, warned the vendors to immediately decamp to designated sites.
“Address your people about the designated sites which are contained in the document that HCC (Harare City Council) presented here,” Sanyatwa said. “Make sure that your people go to those sites. If not, we do not care about the vendors that are on the streets in town, we will deal with the leaders.”
Chombo said vendors will be given until June 8 to move to the 26 designated sites.-Dailynews
