“We No Longer Afford To Eat At Work”: ZBC Workers

By A Correspondent- ZBC workers have written to their management indicating that they have been incapacitated by the current economic crisis.

The letter, which was written on the 30th of August argued that the workers should be awarded a “once-off cushioning allowance” of ZWL$1,000 while the workers council negotiates for improved pay.

The workers revealed that most of them were now spending their days at work without eating anything as they can no longer afford to buy food.

They said:

“We think you are fully aware of the volatile nature of the economic situation we are in. Most employees are now unable to purchase basic commodities, pay rentals and commute to work. Currently, the bread basket is ZWL$1,600.”

The letter comes when inflation in the country continues to soar higher. It also comes after the country embarked on currency reforms which saw the multicurrency system being replaced by a local currency which is continuously shedding value, particularly against the United States dollar.

Meanwhile, workers’ salaries remain stagnant.

Tragedy As Well Collapses Killing Two

By A Correspondent- Two Pfungwe men died, while three others were left nursing injuries after a well collapsed and buried them while sinking irrigation pipes.

George Kareku (53) and Israel Mukara (49), both of Deke village under Chief Chitsungo, failed to make it out alive after the well’s concrete lead collapsed, burying them underground.

Mashonaland East provincial police spokesperson Inspector Tendai Mwanza yesterday confirmed the incident.

“I confirm the deaths of two men from Pfungwe after a well collapsed. Three men were seriously injured in the accident and are currently admitted at Mutawatawa Hospital. We are urging the public to exercise extreme caution when working in such hazardous conditions to avoid fatalities,” he said

According to police, on August 29, the now deceased were in the company of three others standing on a concrete slab that covered the well as they repaired some water pipes they had sunk in the well. It is reported that the concrete slab cracked, gave in and flung the men down the 14-metre-deep well.

Some villagers who witnessed the incident rescued three of the victims who had sustained serious injuries. A report was made at Mutawatawa Police Station who attended the scene and facilitated the retrieval of the bodies.-Newsday

ZIFA Account Frozen Over Salary Arrears

By A Correspondent- A bank account belonging to the country’s football managing board, Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has been frozen.

The account is said to be holding USD100 000 received from FIFA  through the FIFA Forward programme last week.

The account was frozen after the debt-ridden ZIFA defied a High Court order to deposit USD518 331,18 owed to its Director of Administration Lazarus Mhurushomana by Monday.

Mhurushomana was retrenched in 2004 and the money in question is in respect of salary arrears.

A ZIFA official confirmed that the country’s mother body had received USD100k from FIFA for football development but a former employee one Mr Lazarus Mhurushomana approached the court claiming salary arrears of USD518 331.81.

Said the official:

“The Sheriff then issued a writ of attachment and an order to transfer the said amount resulting in this development (of freezing the account).

We have filed an urgent chamber application which was set down for today but was postponed to tomorrow.”

MDC Calls For An End To The Political Charade Targeting Party Leaders

MDC National Chairperson and party activists are innocent

The MDC reiterates the position that the party’s national chairperson Hon. Thabitha Khumalo who appeared in court today on trumped up charges is innocent and merely being harassed by this regime.

Today, Hon. Khumalo and six other party activists appeared in court and were remanded to the 17th of September for either further remand or trial.

We note the removal of Hon. Khumalo’s reporting conditions but we would have wanted the reporting conditions for all the accused to be removed as they are all innocent.

The seven who are facing trumped up charges include Hon. Khumalo, Tshepiso Mpofu, Luba Masotsha, Elliot Mujeri, Tinashe Matimbura, Meliqiniso Sithole and Shelton Tembo. They were unjustly arrested and charged for “publishing false statements prejudicial to the state”.

It is our fully considered view that the State has a very weak case and they are simply persecuting our party leaders for holding on to the correct position that last year’s elections were stolen.

As such, the only reason the matter is being pursued is a political plot to intimidate our political leaders to back down on their demand for Zimbabwe to return to legitimacy under a popularly elected people’s government.

The MDC thus demands an end to this political charade through the unconditional withdrawal of all these false charges against all our innocent leaders.

Zanu Pf Heavyweights Celebrating Mnangagwa Fall?

By A Correspondent| Eldred V Masunungure, a political science lecturer at the University of Zimbabwe has said that the crumbling of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s re-engagement efforts could possibly be amusing some Zanu PF heavyweights.

Masungure claimed that there were some within the party and government who were opposed to the re-engagement drive since day one.

He said:

“What is happening in this party-military regime, where there are military and civilian elements, is that some people inside are celebrating the fact that the West has escalated its criticism of the government, as they also never wanted re-engagement.

These people may want to destroy Mnangagwa’s efforts once and for all, because it is clear they have gone beyond the diplomacy boundary in their actions. As a result, ED’s efforts are now as good as dead in the water.”

His remarks come when the international community has recently raised concern over the shrinking democratic space in the country. They castigated “government-sponsored” abductions and torture of opposition MDC members, human rights defenders and government critics.

Following a ban on MDC demonstrations and other human rights violations, Western diplomatic missions in Zimbabwe, including USA, EU, UK and Australia, issued a joint statement condemning the harassment of citizens by state agents.

Analysts argue that “reckless” statements and actions by some government officials can actually undo efforts to re-engage the international community.

Zimbabwe was isolated, particularly by Western powers on the turn of the millennium with the latter citing gross violations of human rights in the South African country.-DailyNews

WATCH: Apostle Chiwenga After Saying Nelson Chamisa Is “A Liar Who’s Making Money On Church Offerings,” Labels Journalist A Vagabond

The street preacher Talent Chiwenga in the video below responds to revelations that he lied saying Emmerson Mnangagwa didn’t send 1 Aug soldiers to shoot people in 2018, and that he was over-speeding when the accident that killed his wife happened near Chatsworth in June. The preacher responds by labeling the journalist who reported the preacher’s own revelations “a vagabond.” He does not address the factual questions.

He also alleges that the journalist had launched a video to expose him “using scriptures”. (READERS NOTE- The LIVE video news analysis has nothing to do with scriptures, as it was a factual response to his claims that Emmerson Mnangagwa didn’t send 1 Aug soldiers), and his attacks on MDC President Nelson Chamisa, saying the MDC President is making money from pastoring and he (Chamisa) a sinful liar not worthy of using God’s name(video below ).

He then orders his church (to avoid the factual questions) to stop responding in any other way other than “using the scriptures.”

In his own video, recorded inside hospital in June this year, the preacher loudly says that he was speeding (in a 60km speed limit zone) at 120 kmeters per hour and he even wanted to accelerate beyond 120km for no other reason other than to rush to Harare and purchase a new fan belt for his car. He then collided with an oncoming haulage truck and three people died as a result of the collision (accident video below).

Chief Ndiweni Speaks On Police Conduct While In Prison

By A Correspondent- Traditional leader, Chief Nhlanhla Ndiweni of Ntabazinduna has expressed his gratitude to other traditional leaders, police, fellow inmates at the prison and prison officers for visiting him and treating him well during his tenure in prison.

The outspoken chief was sentenced to effective 18 months in prison for vandalising property belonging to one of his subjects who was resisting banishment from his chiefdom.

His incarceration was widely condemned with some arguing that it was politically motivated as the sentence was not commensurate with the alleged crime.

Ndiweni claims that the case is former Cabinet Minister, Obert Mpofu’s way of punishing him after the traditional leader sued Mpofu for stealing cattle belonging to the late Chief Ndiweni.

Speaking after being released on bail, Ndiweni said:

“I would like to extend my thanks to the police. The police were doing their job. The police are a law enforcement, they cannot pick and choose what to do, they are just told and given instructions.”

His remarks come when some quarters of society have been accusing the police of being inhumane when dealing with members of the public.

Concern over police conduct was also raised recently when they violently dispersed demonstrators who had gathered in the streets of Harare for 16 August protests which had been organised by the opposition MDC.-DailyNews

Masvingo Teenager Breaks Into 14 Houses In A Single Week

A Masvingo teenager who went on a housebreaking spree has been slapped with a five year prison term.

Peacemaker Mambudu, aged 19 and employed as a brick moulder, was convicted on his own guilty plea to 14 counts of burglary he committed in a space of a single week.

Prosecutor Malvin Mapako told court that Mambudu terrorised residents in the sprouting suburb of Victoria Range, breaking into their homes and stealing their valuables.

Mambudu carried out robberies in broad daylight and used unknown objects to break windows to gain entry into homes.

He then ransacked the rooms before stealing property, cash and food items.

His luck ran out when an ambush was laid by members of the criminal investigations department as he attempted another break in.

OPINION: If Its Not Xenophobia, Then What Is It?

Daily Maverick| African National Congress and government responses to recent crises arising from the presence in the country of asylum seekers, genuine and otherwise, raises deeply disturbing questions. This is with regard to whether the party is still committed to its founding philosophy of pan-Africanism and whether its government is willing to fulfil its international obligations and implement the country’s foreign policy imperatives.

The ANC’s pan-Africanist ideological outlook and its concomitant influence can be demonstrated in ways too numerous to recount in this article. Suffice to say that representatives from territories that are now called eSwatini, Botswana and Lesotho attended its 1912 founding conference as full delegates.

When it was the turn for the Zimbabweans and Zambians to launch their own freedom struggles in the then Northern and Southern Rhodesia, they chose to call their parties “African National Congress”. Additionally, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Tanzania adopted Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrica as their national anthems, only modifying the lyrics to suit their particular national circumstances. Hail to Enoch Mankayi Sontonga, the composer of our hymn-turned-anthem!

Today’s ANC owes the international community a deep debt of gratitude. When in 1960 the apartheid regime banned the organisation, Oliver Tambo was sent abroad to mobilise international support for the freedom struggle in South Africa.

At one level, able and willing countries were asked to support uMkhonto weSizwe by providing military training facilities, logistical, financial and other tools of the trade. At another level, a huge effort was mounted towards the mobilisation of international solidarity to isolate the racist republic.

Ordinary people, their organisations, churches, non-government organisations, the United Nations system, and so on all put their shoulders to the wheel to help push the pernicious apartheid system out of existence.

The role played by African countries under the auspices of the Organisation of African Unity (now AU) cannot be overstated. Comprising mostly low-income nations, it sacrificed what little it had to assist South Africa’s ascent to democracy. The price Lesotho, Mozambique, Zambia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Angola paid for supporting the ANC was the frequent bombing of their villages and destruction of their economic development infrastructure. People from these countries lost their loved ones for the sake of liberation in South Africa.

And so, after three-and-a-half centuries, the colonised people of South Africa achieved freedom on 27 April 1994. They have lived peacefully with the progeny of their former colonisers and oppressors, albeit social cohesion and relations between the races are at an all-time low, post-democracy.

What about coexistence with Africans from the rest of the continent? Evidence to hand indicates it’s not been very good. Violence against foreign citizens, especially refugees, asylum seekers and illegal immigrants from African countries is quite common. A study based on a citizen survey in the Southern African Development Community shows that 21% of South Africans wanted a complete ban on foreign entry into the republic while 64% favoured strict limitations on the numbers permitted.

Violence against foreign traders has been on the increase after the onset of democracy. A few highlights: in the Cape Flats in 2000, over a five-week period, seven foreigners were killed in what the police said were xenophobic attacks.

In 2001 in Zandspruit informal settlement, Zimbabweans were given 10 days to voluntarily leave the area. When they failed to do so they were forcefully evicted and their houses looted and burnt down.

In 2006, Somali traders appealed for protection after 21 of their number and 26 more were killed in July and August of that year.

The year 2008 saw the worst attacks on foreign nationals — Mozambicans, Malawians and Zimbabweans mainly — in Gauteng, Durban, Mpumalanga and other centres. The tally was 62 dead and several hundred wounded. Property was looted or destroyed. Malawi responded by starting voluntary repatriation of its citizens and Mozambique sponsored a registration of its citizens, also in preparation for repatriation.

Credit must be given to Abahlali baseMjondolo, the Cape Anti-Eviction Campaign and the Khutsong community for ensuring that in areas they controlled, there were no violent attacks against foreign residents.

It is perhaps understandable, although totally unjustified, when jobless citizens who see foreigners in jobs or having what seems to be priority access to houses, react with violence. Whatever research says about an influx of refugees not negatively impacting on job opportunities for local people, that can hardly be convincing to the unemployed and those without shelter.

What is to be made, though, of the statements issued by politicians in the aftermath of the 1 August 2019 riots when traders and hawkers in the Joburg CBD brazenly attacked the police, forcing them to abandon their planned raid in search of illegal and counterfeit goods?

The ANC Secretary-General’s office at Luthuli House said:

“The attack on our law-enforcement officers is an attack on our state and sovereignty… and must never go unpunished.”

The ANC caucus in the Gauteng provincial legislature’s release went:

“As the ANC, we regard this brutality faced by our law enforcement officers who were stoned, petrol-bombed and beaten up by foreign nationals as an attack on our sovereignty and on our way of life as South Africans.”

What elevates a criminal act, dastardly as it was, to the status of an attack on sovereignty? Is it because it is perpetrated by foreigners? A few weeks ago, in a roadside robbery, South African thugs menacingly pointed their guns at a group of policemen, ordered them to lie face down and humiliatingly ordered them to drop their pants down to their ankles before driving off with whatever loot they had collected. It so happens that that particular affront was not characterised as an attack on sovereignty.

As for “our way of life as South Africans”, well, it consists of nauseating news about gruesome murders perpetrated in neighbourhoods and elsewhere: aggravated robberies, women and child abuse, rape, abductions and other violent crimes — essential ingredients for a country sliding into a banana republic.

Faith Mazibuko, a Gauteng Member of the Executive Committee (MEC) for Community Safety, had this to say:

“We can’t co-govern with criminals, especially foreign nationals who want to turn our country into a banana republic.” Presumably, the criminals with whom she would rather co-govern are the savages who shot and killed two security guards in the most gruesome fashion at Maponya Mall in Soweto in October 2018.

Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, Minister of Small Business Development, says that although Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Botswana, and so on exclude from business opportunities foreign nationals who reside in their countries, no one accuses them of xenophobia. Her contention is that opportunities in the small business sector should be “preserved for South Africans because the small business economy is a driver for any economy. But it is not creating jobs for South Africans”.

The minister may not be aware that the South African government provides neither food nor shelter to bona fide refugees and asylum seekers. They are literally on their own or depend on the generosity of friends. Without jobs or permission to hawk, survival would be a big challenge.

Besides, as a signatory to the UN and African Unity Convention, South Africa may be violating one of its conditions for receiving asylum seekers. Ntshavheni will soon discover that what is asphyxiating small business in South Africa is lack of funding, red tape and, most importantly, late payments.

Not all is lost, hopefully. That is, if the world heard what Tandi Mahambehlala, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on International Relations and Co-operation said to South Africans. She counselled caution and offered the nation much-needed advice when reacting to the 1 August riot.

“South Africa’s standing on the global stage, or the efforts of the government in the continent” should not be undermined. And, importantly, “the temptation to resort to an us-against-them approach… should be rejected.”

Finally, an observation as to why, in the first instance, the illegal immigrant problem exists; also, why there are mountains of counterfeit and illegal goods in the country.

This is a direct result of institutional deficiencies: corruption in the Department of Home Affairs and in customs offices; in departments and agencies responsible for the allocation of houses; and in the police.

There are also appalling levels of maladministration.

Last, these institutions are mostly seriously under-resourced. In the case of the South African National Defence Force, there is sub-optimal deployment of resources to ensure that the border is adequately monitored and secured.

These facts are being stated without prejudice to the praiseworthy efforts honest and hard-working employees in these organisations make every day. It is also not being suggested that stemming the tide of illegal immigration is an easy fix.

ANC and government leaders would do well to reflect on Oliver Tambo’s urgings:

“Leaders must conduct themselves in a manner that would make the ANC the accepted leader of South African society.”

Following that dictum would go a long way towards helping them shape the nation’s thinking on how best to achieve peaceful co-existence with fellow Africans from other parts of the continent.

Former Deputy Mayor, Tinashe Kambarami has filed an appeal against the High Court ruling which declared his election into office null and void.

Bulawayo High Court last week declared Kambarami’s election as null and void on the grounds that he had a previous conviction record.

This followed a court appeal by Mthwakazi Liberation Front (MLF) who challenged his election as Bulawayo councillor.

FULL TEXT: MDC Demands Regime to Arrest the Escalating Catastrophe in Health

By Dr Henry Madzorera| Life is a gift from God, and it’s sacrosanct.

The illegitimate regime has unilaterally withdrawn the Right to Life and the Right to Health from the people both through its acts of commission and omission.

The incapacitation of doctors nationwide is a serious infringement on the people’s Constitutional Right to Healthcare.

Doctors are living way below the poverty datum line; and yet are expected to render what the regime labels as “an essential service”.

What worries the ordinary man in the street is that government has been given adequate notice by the doctors to improve their conditions of service, both personal and institutional, to avert a human resources crisis in healthcare; yet there seems to be no urgency on the part of the illegitimate regime to address the very genuine grievances of the doctors.

The wage adjustment offered by government recently (60%) is a pittance and won’t improve the lives of doctors.

Is the illegitimate regime waiting for the deadline of 3/9 /19 to start acting on the grievances.

Do innocent people have to die first before illegitimate regime acts?

The equity gap continues to widen as the rich and powerful elite continue to squander the scarce national resources on treatment outside our boarders, while our own healthcare institutions continue to be death traps because of gross underfunding.

Even the most basic medicines and supplies are always out of stock in spite of government’s incessant claims that stocks of medicines are on their way, while acutely haemorrhaging accident victims are being told to go and buy their own suture material and intravenous fluids at private pharmacies many kilometers away, before they can be helped.

This is the reality of what is happening in our hospitals.

The lie that the regime has procured all essential medicines for our hospitals and clinics is nauseating, as we are fully conscious of the fact that patients are routinely dying of curable illnesses because they can not afford to buy medicines worth as little as US$15.

Evidence on the ground, for example, shows that the number of stroke patients being admitted to our hospitals has skyrocketed lately because patients can’t afford their chronic care medication anymore.

The sad tragedy is that even health care workers (doctors included) cannot afford for themselves and their families the services they are offering to others on a daily basis.

The MDC calls upon the regime to act promptly to address the grievances of the doctors and show that they respect the lives of ordinary Zimbabweans.

A soft genocide is looming in the horizon if we don’t act NOW to avert the crisis.

We further urge the regime to proactively address nurses’ and other health workers’ issues before further disaster strikes.

We urge senior authorities in the health sector to be advocates for these disgruntled doctors, and not be used to intimidate, harass and threaten fellow health workers who are only asking for a fair return on their labour.

We further urge the illegitimate regime to recognize the primacy of healthcare, and prioritize procurement of essential medicines and supplies.

This is one area that cannot be managed by politicking and public relations stunts. It requires a genuine prioritization and actual disbursement of funds.

Lastly we urge the country’s top political leaders to seek their treatment at home!

Our healthcare delivery system used to be the envy of the subregion, and with a little paradigm shift in our leadership we can regain that status to the benefit of all, rich and poor.

Hwende Takes ICT Ministry Officials To Task Over NetOne Forensic Audit

THE Information Communication Technology (ICT) Parliamentary Portfolio Committee chaired by Kuwadzana East MP Charlton Hwende yesterday expressed dismay over the conduct of ICT ministry secretary Sam Kundishora, who they felt was avoiding appearing before their committee to speak on the NetOne forensic audit.

The 2016 forensic audit revealed rot at NetOne, wherein among other issues a company called Gemalto was paid nearly US$6 million for the supply of One Wallet mobile money platform, yet during its existence, the system only generated US$51 000 for NetOne. The network service provider was also said to have made shady payments totalling US$32 million to several firms without documentation.

A letter that Hwende read yesterday before the committee showed that Kundishora was invited to appear before Parliament on two occasions, that is July 15 and July 29, but he failed to avail himself.

Failure to appear before a Parliamentary Portfolio Committee might constitute contempt of Parliament charges.

It appears that on August 26, Kundishona wrote to the committee requesting that the meeting with the ICT committee be postponed to yesterday, but he still failed to turn up amid reports that he had travelled together with the ICT minister Kazembe Kazembe to Japan.

But the NetOne board, which Kazembe and Kundishora were supposed to appear with before the ICT committee, yesterday availed themselves to Parliament. They were turned away because the committee wanted to grill them together with the minister.

“I am not happy with what is happening pertaining to the conduct of the ICT secretary because Kundishora could have sent an acting secretary to represent him before the committee,” Hwende said.

“The matters that we want them to answer to are not matters that are sub judice to do with issues of Megawatt and TelOne. The committee only seeks to get answers on issues pertaining to the mandate of NetOne such as procurement, payment systems, salaries and allowances, acquisition of base stations, taxation of base stations, and others,” he said.

ED’s Married Pastor Says: God Has Clearly Told Me To Marry My Small House | FULL TEXT

Andrew Wutawunashe

By Andrew Wutaunashe | Shalom. Hunting grace to you in this God’s New Hunting Season in which He has prepared in the woods much good for us, His people of the African Revival, and is rekindling a new zeal and aggression for us to hunt in all fields for the greater catch He has prepared for us.

I am blessed to formally announce to you that, following clear guidance and conviction in both our hearts from the Lord, I and Bishop Masego Makhao have resolved to get married. It is a decision that has brought great joy to our hearts, and which we are confident God will use to bring greater blessing to many through us. We are humbled and grateful for the many that share our joy and wish us well. We have also drawn strength from several genuine spiritual confirmations from proven servants and people of God.

Following this decision, on the 1st and 2nd of August, 2019, we attended a gathering at the Makhao homestead in Maun, Botswana, where representatives of the Wutawunashe and Makhao families, as well as a small group of representatives from the Church, led by our Botswana Archbishop Keololetse, carried out the family requirements of introductions, payment of lobola and the coming together of the two families. It was an occasion of great joy and celebration, bringing back to mind an utterance of the Spirit of God at the recent Pastors’ meeting in Masvingo where the Lord said to the Apostle, “You will get married and My people will celebrate.” Though this was not the actual wedding, a supernatural joy was clearly shed by God’s grace upon the occasion. Subsequent to this, plans are afoot for our soon coming being joined together before God’s people in a church wedding celebration to which you will no doubt be invited , and at which we look forward to being blessed by your presence and support.

I am also grateful to God that on my part, this development represents a second chance granted to me by the Lord, following the difficult developments I shared with God’s people in 2016. I have seen clearly that our just God, who sees through the slander, malice, lies and deception of people, does not only lead us in our successes, but also guides us on what path to His restoration to walk when regressions overtake our lives.

I would like to make a few things clear to you in order to dispel all the malicious and false impressions which Satan has used dark hearted people to misinform and dishearten some of God’s people concerning this Divinely ordained union. First, the lobola event came as a surprise, or even a shock to some who felt they should have been formally informed in advance. The modest ‘confidentiality‘ of our decision and this event was not meant to be a secretive exclusion of any of our people who are very precious to our hearts. It was necessitated by the past traumatic experiences of vicious false and malicious reports engineered by wolves in sheep’s clothing, chiefly on social media, meant to deceive and dishearten the many in whose hearts and personal experiences the Lord has continually testified to the integrity of Apostle Andrew Wutawunashe and His now bride to be. As it was, they still had a person planted at the occasion to post unauthorised videos to give the impression that this was a wedding, which it was not.

Secondly, those who in 2016 , deliberately, and for reasons of religious and political benefit, spread slander, lies and deception, shamelessly assassinating my and Bishop Makhao’s characters, would now like to abuse our 2019 decision to marry to justify their proven lies. I would like to emphasize that all their diverse accusations were, and continue to be, completely false and fabricated, and that the false, bizarre and speculative scenarios they painted are definitely not the basis of the step we are now taking.

Our decision to marry is based on prayerful Divine guidance, fortified by the Godly counsel of trustworthy servants and people of God. Our safety and the safety of all God’s people as we take this step comes from a simple but proven truth – we are doing what the Lord has shown us.

We want to thank all who throughout the strife of tongues and print have chosen to support and trust us, and to become God’s midwives of the New Vessel. The Lord who sees all things will reward you. We have no doubt in our hearts that God’s desire is to bring joy to all through our coming together, and we invite you to stand with us, pray with and for us, and to rejoice with us. As my son Asaph said, this is a reason to rejoice. It is God at work, reconstructing the future.

You are one of a select bona fide people of God who has received this message. I ask you to pass this message and its true heart and spirit by WORD OF MOUTH to God’s people and those around you. This message is not meant for your or any social media platform as there are vultures who would love to abuse, distort and defile it.

The Lord grant you favour as you enter His New Hunting Season.

African Nations Criticize South Africa Over Xenophobic Attacks

South Africa has been hit by an outbreak of xenophobic violence in its biggest city, attracting criticism from other African nations in the week political and business leaders from at least 28 countries gather in Cape Town.

A spate of violence that broke out in suburbs south of Johannesburg’s city center on Sunday and spread to the central business district on Monday saw the destruction of more than 50 mainly foreign-owned shops and business premises. Cars and properties were torched and widespread looting took place.

The attacks come ahead of the beginning of the African edition of the World Economic Forum in Cape Town on Sept. 4 and before a state visit to South Africa by President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria, a country whose nationals have been affected, next month.

“The continuing attacks on Nigerian nationals and businesses in South Africa are unacceptable,” the government of Nigeria said on Twitter. “Enough is enough. Nigeria will take definitive measures to ensure safety and protection of her citizens.”

The violence echoes sporadic outbreaks of attacks mainly targeting migrants from other African countries in some of South Africa’s poorest areas. In 2008 about 60 people were killed and over 50,000 forced from their homes and in 2015 seven people died in violence. Migrants are seen as competition for scarce jobs and government services.

Other Nigerian politicians, including former presidential election candidate Oby Ezekwesili called for stronger intervention by the government.

Dear President @MBuhari and @NigeriaGov , it is time to take decisive actions to protect our Citizens in South Africa. The maiming and killings have gone on for too long without effective response. The bilateral relations with South Africa is troubled. It is time to be CANDID.

Zambia warned its truck drivers, many of whom drive goods south to the South African port of Durban, to stay out of the country.

South African politicians condemned the violence, in which one person was shot dead, according to eNCA, a local television station. At least 110 people were arrested.

Still, politicians from the ruling African National Congress have in the past made anti-immigrant comments and Johannesburg’s mayor, Herman Mashaba, has attracted criticism from human rights groups for his frequent attacks on undocumented migrants. Mashaba is a member of the opposition Democratic Alliance.

The violence is “unacceptable,” Ace Magashule, the secretary-general of the ANC, said in remarks broadcast on television.

“We condemn this violence which is taking place, irrespective of whatever reasons people want to give,” he said.

S.A. Xenophic Attacks Spread To School As Congolese Class Monitor Is Bashed By Fellow South African Learners

Donette Ngonefi (in blue dress) at Salt River High School was attacked in an alleged xenophobic bullying incident at the school following months of threats from her peers.

Cape Town – A Grade 10 pupil at Salt River High School was attacked in an alleged xenophobic bullying incident at the school following months of threats from her peers.

Donette Ngonefi said the tension began at the beginning of the year when she was elected class monitor. Fellow pupils were allegedly against her appointment because she was a foreigner.

Donette from the DRC said she had trouble performing her duties as class monitor because she was constantly verbally abused.

The abuse was then reported to the principal who allegedly showed “a lack of compassion” because she had notified the principal of the verbal abuse before it escalated to an assault this week.

In a video of the attack, Donette is seen sitting while some the pupils scream and shout at her. The incident escalates as multiple students begin assaulting her.

A male student is seen attacking her while others joined.

Donette suffered multiple injuries including injuries to her abdomen. A teacher who refused to be named due to an ongoing situation regarding the matter said Donette came to her crying and she was in a bad state.

Donette later collapsed and “fell on her face”. Another teacher came in to help her. Her friends also came into the classroom to support her.

A case was reported to the police by Donette’s mother and Congolese community leader Papy Sukami. Sukami sad she has been fearing for her daughter’s safety every day.

“I was really hurt because every time she comes home complaining. She’s not safe at the school and I don’t understand why the principal didn’t relieve her off her class monitor duties,” she said.

She says she was told her children should stay at home.

The Western Cape Department of Education communications director, Bronagh Hammond said: “The SGB met to decide a way forward and will continue with disciplinary proceedings. While the actions of the original fight are unacceptable, the actions following this incident by the other learners is just as wrong. The WCED are monitoring the situation.  We await the outcome of the disciplinary hearings.”

September 02, 2019

At least 50 shops were looted and burned early Monday in the southern Johannesburg suburbs of Malvern and Jeppestown. Police fired rubber bullets at looters as burnt cars were stranded in the roads as violence grew.

Officials dismissed reports that the ongoing attacks were xenophobic and that foreign-owned shops were targeted in the violence, insisting they were opportunistic crimes. “Xenophobia is just an excuse that is being used by people to commit criminal acts,” Police Minister Bheki Cele told the media on Monday afternoon. “It is not xenophobia, but pure criminality.”

Cele said the government’s first priority was to deploy more police officers to the affected areas. Police arrested 41 people for the violence in Johannesburg, while 8 others were arrested in Tembisa township, east of Johannesburg, and one person arrested in the capitol Pretoria, police said.

On Monday, a pamphlet circulating on social media, seen by The Associated Press, encouraged South Africans to chase foreigners out of their communities. The pamphlet, attributed to a group called the Sisonke Peoples Forum, accused foreigners living in South Africa of selling drugs and stealing jobs, both common refrains during the regular flare-ups of violence against foreigners in the greater Johannesburg area in recent years.

Monday’s violence follows similar incidents in Pretoria last week, in which protest led by taxi drivers saw several foreign-owned shops looted and torched.

Shock As South African Police Minister Old Video Is Used To Justify Xenophobic Attacks, “Foreigners Are Taking Over South Africa.”

Bongani Michael Mkongi

A video has begun circulating again of South Africa’s Deputy Minister of Police, Bongani Michael Mkongi, saying the city of Johannesburg was taken over by foreigners, with 80% of the city controlled by them. .

In the two minute video shared below, the Minister infers that South Africans are justified in their attacks on foreigners as the country has lost huge parts of their cities to foreigners.

He said it’s unacceptable, adding that South African’s can never surrender their land to foreigners.

Rather than condemning the xenophobic culture Mkongi said; “You can’t find South Africans in other countries dominating a city up to 80%… we cannot surrender South Africa to foreign nationals”

As the current wave of xenophobia hits the country, South Africans have resorted to the old video and have been sharing it wide on social media to justify their attacks on foreigners.

Scores of people have so far been attacked with hundreds displaced in the ongoing wave of attacks.

ZANU PF Bigwig Hauled To Court Over $368k ZESA Debt

Flora Buka

THE Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) has petitioned the High Court with an application to register as a court order a deed of settlement signed by former Zanu PF Midlands senator Flora Buka following her failure to settle a US$368 833 electricity debt despite her undertaking to do so.

The power utility recently filed a court application seeking an order to have the deed of settlement registered with a view to execute the judgment against her property and recover its cash.

In its affidavit, the power utility said Buka owns Riverbend Farm, East Clare in Kwekwe which accumulated the debt which she subsequently failed to pay.

Through its lawyers Chihambakwe, Mutizwa and Partners, the power utility demanded payment of the outstanding amount but the former minister in the then Vice-President Joice Mujuru’s Office failed to fulfil her obligation.

“On April 5, 2019 and at Harare, the applicant (ZETDC) and the respondent (Buka) signed a deed of settlement in terms of which it was agreed that the respondent would pay the applicant a total sum of $368 833 being charges for electricity supplied by the latter to the former,” ZETDC’s company secretary Judith Tsamba said in her affidavit.

“It was also agreed that in the event of the respondent’s failure to pay any instalment due in terms of the deed of settlement then the whole amount outstanding would become due and payable.”

Tsamba further said in breach of the deed of settlement, Buka has, since the signing of the agreement, only managed to pay a total of $8 000.

“By reason of the respondent’s breach, the whole amount in the sum of $360 633 is now due and payable…this has necessitated the making of this application to enable the applicant to recover the outstanding sum of $360 833 plus costs of suit as agree,” she said. The matter is yet to be set down for hearing.

“Apostle” Chiwenga Responds To Evidence that He Lied Saying ED Didn’t Deploy 1 Aug Soldiers, By Labeling Journalist “A Vagabond”

He then collided with an oncoming haulage truck and three people died as a result of the collision (video below).

Leaders Of Failed Burkina Faso Coup To Rot In Prison

Burkina Faso’s coup leader General Gilbert Diendere

OUAGADOUGOU— Two senior allies of Burkina Faso’s deposed former president Blaise Compaore were sentenced to 10 and 20 years in prison respectively on Monday for organising a 2015 coup attempt against a transitional government.

Protesters, angered by Compaore’s attempt to change the constitution to extend his 27-year rule, forced him to flee the West African nation in 2014.

Troops from the elite Presidential Security Regiment under the command of General Gilbert Diendere, Compaore’s right-hand man, took members of the transitional government hostage less than a month before elections the following year.

The week-long power grab failed, but 14 people were killed and more than 250 others were wounded as they attempted to resist the putsch.

A military tribunal in the capital Ouagadougou found Diendere guilty of murder and threatening state security and sentenced him to 20 years in prison.

“This is a victory for the Burkinabe people, a victory for democracy and the rule of law,” said Prosper Farama, a lawyer for people injured in the coup attempt. “Only the people, by their legitimacy, confer power.”

Diendere’s lawyer said he would discuss a possible appeal with his client.

Compaore’s former foreign minister Djibril Bassole, who was accused of being the coup’s mastermind, was also sentenced to 10 years in prison for treason.

Compaore now lives in exile in neighbouring Cote d’Ivoire.

Burkina, once among the region’s most peaceful countries, has been riven by jihadist and inter-ethnic violence over the last few years, some of it spillover from neighbouring Mali.

Last month, suspected Islamist militants killed 24 soldiers in the deadliest attack yet on the country’s army.

Meanwhile, fifteen people were confirmed dead after a day of rescue in the remains of a three-storey building which collapsed in Mali’s capital Bamako, an official said on Monday.

The residential building, which was under construction but was inhabited, fell down in the early hours of Sunday, and the death toll rose throughout the day as firefighters extracted men, women and children from the rubble.

Twenty-six people survived, Major Baba Cisse, a spokesperson for the minister of security, told Reuters on the phone. Most of those sustained injuries, state radio ORTM reported.

The government said a lack of respect for construction standards was the likely cause of the collapse.—Reuters.

“Highlanders Reduced To Mediocrity,” Fans Mourn As Giants Face Imminent Relegation

Dejection once again, Highlanders players leave the pitch after another loss.

By Ezra Sibanda|A season that began with optimism for Highlanders Bosso now generating into despair, disbelief and fury as the fate of Zimbabwe’s oldest football club is looking increasingly perilous. We need to come together and rescue our club from the jaws of extinction at the hands of flops in charge of the club. There is an institutional failure in football governance by those tasked to lead Highlanders FC and that’s what we are facing now. Its not about changing coaches but overhauling the whole setup at Bosso.

Its time to get rid of the current Executive & Board, thats the only way to modernise the club and bring back the good old days. Our great club has been reduced to mediocrity just because of people who have no clue on how to run a huge football club like Highlanders. Does the current leadership realise they are inflicting so much pain on Bosso fans around the world while selfishly destroying the pride of Matabeleland people? Just because of the love of power, stinking ego and arrogance, these failures dont want to resign. They have failed and should all go now, from the Chairman, CEO & Board hambani. As Bosso, we are slowly losing a force of influence, economic and cultural institution.

Mnangagwa Cornered As Doctors Down Tools Yet Again.

Emmerson Mnangagwa

NewsDay|DOCTORS at public hospitals have turned down a 60% salary rise offered by government and vowed to go ahead with their planned industrial action starting today to press for a better offer and an improvement in their conditions of service.

The latest strike, which is likely to trigger bloodbath in the country’s already strained public health system, follows three similar industrial actions by members of the Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors’ Association (ZHDA) since President Emmerson Mnangagwa (pictured) assumed power nearly 18 months ago.

But the Health Services Board (HSB) accused the doctors of “Nicodemusly” going behind their back to declare a stalemate after they had signed up for a 60% pay rise.

“The HSB has learnt with disbelief and surprise by the doctors’ intended strike letter which they presented to HSB on Friday. Doctors are now singing a different tune a day after signing the agreement. The records of the bipartite meeting held on Thursday August 29 do not show any dissent from any members of the health apex council,” said HSB spokesperson, Rachel Tryfine Dzukutu, responding to the notice by doctors to go on strike.

“The agreement was signed by the apex leader following an outcome of a vote by all apex representatives; this is what the apex leader told the government representatives at the meeting.”

NewsDay last night learnt that the HSB had summoned ZHDA president Peter Magombeyi to an urgent meeting to stop the strike. Mugombeyi said that he would not back down on the position taken by the association.

He said accepting the 60% increment would compromise their chances of bargaining for a better offer.

“What the response from the HSB says is true, but they are failing to get the correct point. We said we accept the offer, but it still renders us incapacitated and until this (incapacitation) is solved, we are going ahead with the strike until we are offered something meaningful,” he said.

In December last year, doctors went on a six-week job action over poor conditions of service.

Previously, they had downed tools over similar grievances, before they were cowed into submission by suspected State security agents.

“Sham 2018 Election Resulted in illegitimacy” CIZC Finally Admit – Yet Still Won’t Stop Appeasing Zanu PF

By Nomusa Garikai| It is heartening to see that organisation like Crisis In Zimbabwe Coalition (CIZC) are finally calling a spade a spade!

“The sham 2018 polls resulted in a serious legitimacy crisis that came with adverse effects on economic revival and re-engagement with the international community,” said CIZC statement.

“In January 2018, suffering Zimbabweans took to the streets to protest against the continued economic meltdown and again, the army resorted to brutality and this resulted in the death of about 12 civilians while others were raped and tortured.”

Gone is the wishy-washy “disputed 2018 elections” as if the writer is totally incapable of deciding for themselves whether or not the elections were free, fair and credible. Of course, last year’s elections were a “sham”! ZEC failed to produce something as basic as a verified voters’ roll, 3 million Zimbabweans in the diaspora were denied a vote, etc.

It is a great shame that country’s corrupt and incompetent opposition participated in the flawed and illegal elections knowing fully well that Zanu PF was rigging the elections and, worse still, that by participating they would give the flawed process some credibility!

In his Book, The Struggle Continues 50 years of tyranny in Zimbabwe, former MDC – Ncube Senator and Minister of Education in the GNU, David Coltart, gave details of how Zanu PF flouted the electoral rules, it clear the … 2013 elections would not be free and fair. Meanwhile talks of uniting the two MDC factions to fight the elections as one were going nowhere.

“The worst aspect for me about the failure to agree a coalition was that both MDCs couldn’t now do the obvious – withdraw from the (2013) elections,” confessed MDC Senator David Coltart in his book, The Struggle Continues 50 years of tyranny in Zimbabwe.

“The electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility.”

As a matter of historic fact, four of the MDC factions did form a coalition before last year’s elections and still they participated in these elections too.

It is a double shame that the people of Zimbabwe have risked life and limb to elect MDC leaders into power on the understanding they would deliver the changes to stop the curse of rigged elections. It is heart breaking that MDC leaders have not only failed to deliver even one democratic change in 20 years but worse still they are the ones knowingly giving rigged elections credibility!

“We further implore the government to respect the right to protest peacefully as enshrined under Section 59 of the country’s constitution,” continued CIZC statement.

“More importantly, we reiterate our call for an all stakeholders dialogue as a way of unlocking the multi-faceted crisis in Zimbabwe.

“This national dialogue process must not be restricted to political parties but should rather bring on board a cross section of stakeholders including civic society, labour, religious groups, business among other critical stakeholders.”

So, it took CIZC a year to finally admit that Zanu PF rigged last year’s elections? One can only hope that it is NOT going to take another year for CIZC to finally come to the conclusion that Zanu PF has no democratic mandate to govern, the party is in fact illegitimate.

The national dialogue that many people including the country’s main opposition, the MDC, are proposing will result in a power sharing arrangement in which Zanu PF will play a role. A similar power sharing arrangement resulted in the 2008 to 2013 GNU involving both Zanu PF and MDC. The GNU failed to implement even one reform in five years. The new proposed arrangement will not do any better.

Zanu PF has rigged elections ever since the country attained her independence back in 1980. The nation has again and again foolishly rewarded the party with absolute power. After 39 years of appeasing Zanu PF with the tragic consequences we can see in Zimbabwe today; just how many more years, human suffering and deaths will it take before we finally accept appeasing an illegitimate regime is insane!

Last year’s elections were a sham, Zanu PF is illegitimate and the least we can do is demand that Zanu PF steps down and not to be rewarding the party with political power for committing high treason! Even now with the country’s very survival on the line, the primeval call to appease Zanu PF is simply irresistible! – SOURCE: zsdemocrats.blogspot.com

Mnangagwa IT Gurus Leave His Website Turn Into A Dating Site.

What you find in what is meant to be President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s website b

President Mnangagwa last year made headlines when he announced increasing his online presence when he launched a website.

The website was only one of other several platforms (Twitter, Facebook and WhatsApp) on which the President had a presence.

A check on what new content about His Excellency was now available produced shocking results.

What was once ED Mnangagwa’s website is now a man’s lifestyle and dating site. The website is still called edmnangagwa.com but what was once an autobiography-site of our President is now a site of those seeking partners. This is how the homepage of the website looked like:

And this is how the homepage of the website looked when President Mnangagwa was still using it:

So what happened?

The website was hacked? Perish the thought, because it wasn’t. What happened is pretty simple; the domain name which was used for President Mnangagwa’s website expired and it was re-released for registration by anybody on a first-come first-served basis. Somebody then bought it and registered it for this man’s lifestyle website.

It would have been great if the President had paid for the domain name and kept on engaging with the citizens on his website.

Broke ZESA Needs $40m To Repair Broken Transformers

Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority workers working on an electricity line.

State Media|THE Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (Zesa) requires at least US$40 million to replace more than 4 000 transformers, which have been vandalised across the country.

Spokesperson, Mr Fullard Gwasira, said the company was losing a lot of infrastructure due to vandalism of its critical equipment.

He said in addition to vandalism of transformers, more than 1 000km of power lines have been destroyed, exacerbating the power transmission challenge in the country.

While the power utility’s generation capacity has been constrained due to ageing equipment at thermal stations and drought-induced lowering of water levels at the giant Kariba Dam, the situation was worsened by the destruction of equipment.

“We need at least US$40 million to replace vandalised and obsolete transformers throughout the country,” said Mr Gwasira.

He said the company was experiencing increased incidents of vandalism, some of which have caused loss of lives, as thieves attempt to drain transformer oil or cut copper cable conductors.

“There is a mandatory prison sentence of 10 years to a person caught vandalising or stealing our poles.

“However, this seems not deterrent enough as we continue losing a lot of equipment to thieves.

“Out of over 4 000 transformers and 1 000km of our lines that we have lost, more than 70 percent mislay is through vandalism and that is cause of grave concern. I, therefore, wish the mandatory sentence be increased to at least 20 years,” he said.

Mr Gwasira said given the above scenario the power supply situation would continue to face serious challenges.

He appealed to those with outstanding debts to pay their dues so the company may be able to provide power.

“A number of clients sit on a huge debt and our appeal is that they should pay up. There are those without these prepaid meter systems, they should come forward to make payment arrangements. We need the money to cater for maintenance of our lines and transformers,” he said.

Energy and Power Development Minister, Fortune Chasi recently said industry and individuals owe Zesa about $1,2 billion. He said if the debt is cleared it would go a long way in addressing some of the challenges that the company faced.

The country desperately needs additional resources to import more power from regional producers as a short term measure to satisfy industry and domestic consumption needs.

As A Matter Of Fact, ZERA Decreased The Price Of Fuel But Effect Not Taken Up By Filling Stations

Zera acting chief executive, Mr Eddington Mazambani

THE Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (Zera) actually announced a reduction in fuel prices contrary to reports that the prices had gone up yet again.

The reduction is due to the FOB (Free on Board) price movements and the revised duty regime

Blend, which was at $10.01, is now $9.86 while diesel now costs $10.25 from $10.32.

In a statement, Zera said the decrease in the fuel prices was a result of Free On Board price movements and operators can sell at lower prices if it is to their advantage.

“The changes in the fuel prices are due to the FOB price movements and the revised duty regime (SI 161 of 2019) applicable from Monday 2 September 2019.

“Operators may, however, sell at prices below the cap depending on their trading advantages,” read the statement.

Zera acting chief executive, Mr Eddington Mazambani, assured the public of the stability of supplies on the market.

“Supplies are stable in the market with both products available,” he said.

Last month, the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development and Zera agreed that the duty set by Zera at the beginning of the week would become the absolute amount for the whole week until Sunday.

The previous pricing system made it difficult for traders to make fuel available when their prices were different from what Zera would have set.

However, most filling stations stations visited by ZimEye.com did not adhere to the new price add they stuck to the old higher price.

Government recently gazetted Statutory Instrument 161 of 2019 and the Customs and Excise (Tariff) (Amendment) notice 10, 2019, that gives legal effect to the new fuel and alcohol beverages excise duties announced in the 2019 mid-term budget review statement.

Finance and Economic Development Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube recently said Government had approved the direct fuel imports facility, in order to minimise disruptions to the production cycle due to the fuel supply gaps.

Civil Servants Taken For A Ride By Govt On Salary Increase Promises

Minister Nzenza

Disappointed civil servants yesterday said their August salaries were paid excluding the Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) ranging from 50 to 76 percent that the Government awarded them last week.

Government had promised to pay all the salaries with the increments by end of last month.

In an interview yesterday, Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Dr Sekai Nzenza said the welfare of its workers remained top priority for Government and assured civil servants that it would resolve all outstanding issues without stating when and how.

“Government has made a promise and it will keep that promise. All civil servants will receive their increments according to the agreement between the Government and the Apex Council.

“We appreciate the spirit of engagement exhibited by the workers through the Apex Council and I want to assure the workers that negotiations to resolve outstanding issues will continue,” said Dr Nzenza.

Civil servants yesterday said they received their salaries without the increments promised by the Government, while others said they were yet to be paid.

“I have received my salary but I was shocked when I realised that there’s no 76 percent increment.

“I hope more is coming because I have already budgeted for the money, which is still not enough,” said a teacher who declined to be named.

Another civil servant, who also preferred anonymity, said he was eagerly waiting for his August salary.

Last week Government resolved to cushion its workers against the economic hardships that they are facing by offering a COLA ranging from 50 percent to 76 percent on a sliding scale with effect from August 1, 2019.

Government tabled this offer in the meetings of the National Joint Negotiating Council (NJNC) held on August 23 and August 27, 2019.

The offer comes after Government had implemented a 50 percent cushioning allowance for most civil servants during the month of July.

Government also undertook to pay-off PSMAS arrears to clear the legacy debt thereby ensuring that there is reduction on requests for cash upfront payments by health service providers when members are accessing medical services.

Implementation of the plan has started and this will ease cash flow challenges for PSMAS.

Government also assured its workers that the Public Service Commission has engaged the Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing to physically avail promised land for housing for civil service employees.

A decision on the use of the land will be negotiated with the Apex Council.

Chivayo Delivered On A Silver Plate For ZACC As Accomplice Goes Down

Gone down, Stanley Kazhanje

Former Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC) board chairman Stanley Kazhanje was yesterday slapped with an effective one-year jail term for concealing a US$10 000 transaction he received from Wicknell Chivayo’s Intratrek Zimbabwe.

Kazhanje was last week convicted after a full trial by senior regional magistrate Mr Hosea Mujaya.

Mujaya initially sentenced Kazhanje to three years in jail before suspending two years on condition of good behaviour.

During aggravation, the State called its star witness, former ZPC board member Ms Thandiwe Mhlobani, who stated that Kazhanje never signed anything for the processing of the contract to Intratrek, but this was done by management.

She told the court that she did not attend all the board meetings.

She further stated that Engineer Noah Gwariro, who was the managing director of ZPC at that time, knew that Kazhanje had done some work for Intratrek.

Prosecutor Brian Vito told the court that Kazhanje deserved jail time for the offence as a deterrent measure.

“Zimbabwe has an acute shortage of power and the 100 megawatts should have helped in alleviating the country’s power problems,” he said.

Mr Vito further stated that the court should consider a custodial sentence to meet the justice of the case.

“The seriousness of this offence should be taken in the context of the fight against corruption in the country,” he said.

In passing judgment last week, Mujaya said the State had proven case against Kazhanje.

Mujaya ruled that Kazhanje failed to submit evidence of receipt of the money or the nature of work done by his company, Terminal Engineering, at Intratek Zimbabwe.

Mr Mujaya said ZPC’s former corporate secretary, Saidi Sangula, testified that Kazhanje disclosed his interests at Intratrek.

Mr Mujaya said even former Energy Minister Dzikamai Mavhaire, who Kazhanje claimed to have declared his dealings with Intratrek to, denied the claim.

Now that the other end to the corrupt deal has gone down, it is for take that Wicknell Chivayo can not continue a freeman. The judgement should see the Anti Corruption Commission have it easy with Chivayo.

WHO In Change Of Heart On Use Of Depo Provera

Dr Peter Salama, executive director, Universal Health Coverage/Life Course at WHO.

State Media|The World Health Organisation (WHO) has revised guidelines on Depo Provera use by women at high risk of acquiring HIV, following evidence from a study which showed that there was no link between increased HIV risk and use of contraceptives.

The new guidelines now emphasise on correct and consistent use of condoms and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) by women at high risk of contracting HIV or in settings where HIV prevalence is high.

“Evidence shows that a woman’s risk of HIV should not restrict her contraceptive choice,” said Dr Peter Salama, executive director, Universal Health Coverage/Life Course at WHO.

“All women should have access to a wide range of options for contraception as well as to HIV prevention and to treatment if needed.”

Since there was no study proving or disapproving the link between HIV risk and use of Depo Provera, WHO has been carefully making recommendations depending on available evidence over the past 20 years.

In 2014, WHO guidelines permitted use of all hormonal contraceptives, but with a disclaimer that progesterone-only injectable contraceptives, which include Depo Provera may or may not increase one’s risk of HIV acquisition.

Progesterone-only injectable contraceptives are a form of hormonal contraception and progesterone-only contraception that are administered by injection and providing long-lasting birth control.

The 2014 guidelines further encouraged HIV preventive measures, including male and female condoms in women at high risk of HIV infection.

In 2017, WHO released revised guidelines on the use of the same contraceptives from which it stated that the advantages of using them generally outweighed the “possible, but unproven”, increased risk of HIV acquisition.

Early this year, researchers released results of a four-year study, which showed no link between increased HIV risk and use of hormonal contraceptives, ending years of uncertainty in use of these contraceptives.

The debate on Depo Provera increasing the risk of HIV acquisition started in 1996 when scientists discovered that monkeys injected with high concentration levels of Depo Provera had their biological make-up weakening, thereby allowing easy penetration of SIV, an equivalent of HIV in humans, into their system.

Since then, there has been unproven talk that Depo Provera increased risk of HIV acquisition.

An estimated 2,2 million women in Zimbabwe use modern contraceptives, which include Depo Provera.

“Drunk” Councillors To Be Barred From Attending Meetings?

Local Government, Public Works and National Housing Minister July Moyo has called on local authorities to formulate standing rules to rein in councillors who attend meetings while drunk.

Minister Moyo’s call follows reports that some councillors and senior council officials were failing to perform their duties and causing problems during crucial council meetings due to drunkenness.

He said local authorities were State organs which should not condone drunkeness or intoxication during crucial meetings.

Minister Moyo said it was pertinent for all local authorities to come up with by-laws or standing rules to stop what he termed counter-productive behaviour at full council meetings and other council fora.

He said the suggestion by some councillors to purchase breathalysers to test alcohol influence on councillors and managers before council meetings was very noble.

“Urban and rural councils are Government entities with the right to formulate standing rules or policies regarding drunkenness during meetings,” said Minister Moyo.

“Taking alcohol before full council meetings or any other council portfolio meetings adversely affects the proceedings and resolutions thereof.

“Councils can only be able to penalise those who get drunk and disturb proceedings if they have laid down policies. Once local authorities have managed to have such standing rules regarding drunkenness, they will be able conduct disciplinary hearing for the errant officials.

“We expect all councils to deliver, but they cannot do so if sensitive discussions on community are deliberated on by drunk people. That will not grow the economy.”State media

Old Leaders Can No Longer Serve Nation

NATIONAL, BUSINESS, BREAKING

Farai Dziva|Old leaders do not have the capacity to transform the economy, a youth organization has said.

In a statement First Choice Movement has said youths should be given the opportunity to take up leadership positions.

See the full statement:

First Choice Movement (FCM) is a youth organization that was founded in 2016(Zimbabwe)
based on the principle of pan Africanism. The African continent is divided on tribal, political, race
and religious lines. The division in Africa was mainly influenced by the divide and rule tactic that
was used by settlers for them to be able to control the Africans.Colonization came and is past us
but Africa is not yet free.A free people are those who are economically independent.Capital is
still in the hands of our colonial masters and there is need to empower the African.

The message of economic independence is important for our continent.Land should be returned to
its rightful owners. In South Africa Julius Malema is leading a campaign that is going to make sure
Africans are given back their land. The move by Malema is good but South Africa has to learn
from Zimbabwe.

NATIONAL, BUSINESS, BREAKING

They should create a model will make sure human rights are not violated and
land is given to deserving people and not allocated on political lines.Economic independence in
Africa can only be achieved if the young people in the continent have the right mindset. The youth
are the builders of any nation and this age is the one that is going to bring change to Africa.

First Choice Movement is anchored on first choices and as young Africans our first choice is to build
Africa. We have to restore peace in Africa and practice good governance. Our grandfathers the
likes of Nkwame Nkruma,Nelson Mandela,Robert Mugabe and Kenneth Kaunda at their time they
politically liberated Afria but now it is our time to liberate Africa economically.Africans should
own properties and they should rise as a people. We have to rise and fight against
poverty. However we cannot build Africa whilst we are divided. We have to unite as young
people in order for the continent to move forward. The continent is moving towards intergration
and those who are obligated to unite Africa are the youth.

Therefore we have to work together
from ANC in South Africa,EFF,DA,UNIP,PF,MDC,ZANU PF,PDP in Nigeria ,SWAPO and MPLA.We
have to work together be it Zulu,Ndebele,Shona,Swahili,Tonga and any other tribe indigenous to Africa.

The continent has been facing serious problems for many years.Poverty is the root of all the
problems that we have facing and our main problem in Africa has been corruption.Corruption has
destroyed Africans state and leaders have stayed longer in power because they are afraid to be
prosecuted for corruption.African governments have also been at the centre of abusing human
righs.Free and fair elections are rare in Africa and security forces are used to kill people when
they are supposed to protect them.It is quite sad that Africa is going nowhere because there is a
leadership crisis in the continent. The continent is being led by old revolutionaries who have an old
way of thinking.Today it is our time as young people to build Africa. It is our duty as our fathers
did their part.We cannot let old people build Africa when should be retiring from work whilst we
fold our hands. We have the power to change Africa only if we unite and come out strong.

FCM wishes to bring young people together and discuss the way forward for Africa. We envision
an independent unified Africa with one uniform currency.Africa that is borderless and that adds
value to its resources. We also believe in the vision of Muammar Gaddafi of selling oil in gold. This
is the main reason why the colonel was murdered by the West because they had an interest in
Libya. The 2011 Arab Spring was used to destroy Gaddafi and had become so strong that he
became a threat to US foreign policy. As an organization we believe Africa should be
compensated of the crimes commited against humanity in the dark age.Africa today is about 300
years behind because Slave Trade.

Our manpower was used for free and helped industrialize
Europe. There Africa needs to be compensated. If Germany had to pay reparations for causing
the World War ,we also need compensation as Africa.Countries that colonized African states they
should also compensate Africa.Moreso there is need for countries Jamaica,Haiti and the West
Indies to be part of African Union. These people are Africans. We also ask for blacks Americans to
come back home and invest in their motherland.Marcus Garvey was fond of saying that a people
without knowledge of their past is like a tree a without roots.Hence they should come back and
learn their real culture and know their real identity.

The youth movement FCM has been growing since 2016 and is still operating within Zimbabwe
but wishes to spread across the 55 states of Africa. From 2020 as an organization we are going
to start building Africa from scratch.Correcting the mistakes of our fathers, fighting
corruption, making Africa ecomically independent and taking steps to transfer power the older
generation to the younger generation. We look forward to reform the African Union and make it
an independent body. Our growth has been deterred mainly due to lack of funding but we have
put mechanisms in place in order to fund our activities as we are independent entity preaching the
gold spell of economic independence.
The organization from 2 September,2019 is embarking on a mass mobilization programme. The
mobilization will start from universities from Zimbabwe.Universities are the centres of civilizens
and intellectuals will assist in making Africa take first choices. We are going to be structuring
throughout 2019 and eventually launch the movement in 2020.The movement does not support
any political party but wishes to work with all political parties for purposes of building Africa.A
National Students’ Council is the first temporary committee that is going to spearhead mobilization in Zimbabwean universities.

This 2019 our main focus is mobilization and educating the young people on the importance of
unity. In Zimbabwe we are going to craft the Zimbabwe Youth Charter. It is important for young
people to converge and deliberate on issues that affect them.

As a movement we intend to reach
all Zimbabweans and try to craft our own Africa as young people.

Dangers Of Mixing ARVs With Herbs

Farai Dziva|The National Aids Council has advised People Living With HIV and AIDS to desist from using Herbs and ARVs simultaneously.

See the National AIDS Council statement:

A commendable number of people have been tested and know their status, but some have fallen prey to network marketers and street doctors and are not following advice given tothem by health personnel.

It has come to the National Aids Council’s attention that there are drygs and herbs being sold in the country as cures for HIV and Aids.

Some of these drugs are being smuggled into the country and other are locally made. These have not been tested and approved by experts, It is not advisable to take them.

We do not encourage the use of herbs or traditional medicines together with antiretroviral drugs (ARVs).

ARVs on their own are very effective in the treatment of HIV infections and they do not need any assistance from herbs or other medicines provided they are taken correctly as per advice from the health workers.

Gvnt Worried About Safety Of Zimbos In S.A

By A Correspondent- The government is worried about the safety of Zimbabweans in South Africa following threats of fresh xenophobic attacks by some nationals of that country.

Zimbabwe’s ambassador to South Africa, David Hamadziripi, in a letter dated August 29 this year addressed to the Transport and Infrastructural Development permanent secretary Amos Marawa said he was concerned about the safety of Zimbabwean drivers in that country.

“We are equally deeply concerned about the safety of our truck drivers in light of the reported attacks directed at them and other foreigners in that industry,” Hamadziripi said.

He said the Department of International Relations and Co-operation had invited them to bring them up to speed with preparations the South African government was doing to counter the proposed attacks.

South Africans have set today (2 September) as the day they will rise up against foreigners at workplaces and industries to violently smoke them out.

South Africans accuse foreigners of taking up their jobs in the country where up to 15 million of the country’s population are unemployed.

Hamadziripi, whose response to Marawa’s letter to a chief executive of SA’s Cross Border Road Transport Agency has gone viral on social media, asked about the results of the government response to previous attacks. Last week, there was a fresh wave of xenophobic attacks, with foreigners filmed challenging South Africans to attack them.

Some Nigerians, in retaliation to attacks and threats, have ordered South African nationals and companies to leave the populous African country.

The chairperson of the Zimbabwe Cross-Border Transport Association, Dennis Juru, has throughout last week been releasing bulletins advising Zimbabweans working in SA to take the threats seriously.

He also warned that in retaliation to the threats, other countries would ban all South African drivers from their territories.

“Due to threats by South African nationals that on September 2, 2019 they are embarking on an attack to foreign national drivers, the International Cross-Border Traders Association executive hase resolved that if this plan succeeds, we are going to stop all South Africa-registered trucks, buses and flights to cross borders to any African nation,” Juru said in a statement.

“Foreign truck drivers have work permits to work in South Africa. The government of South Africa found it necessary to give foreign nationals work permits, allowing them to take employment in South Africa.

“No one has monopoly of violence. If they turn to be violent to foreign nationals, our organisation shall respond accordingly.”

He asked the South African government to protect foreign nationals in their country.

“We have previously witnessed foreign nationals killed, assaulted and threatened without a single person being arrested or prosecuted,” he said.

Yesterday, traffic between South Africa and Zimbabwe was smooth, with people arriving from the neighbouring country saying they had not seen anything sinister.

Zanu Pf Affiliated Town Clerk Hires Thugs To Attack Mayor

Chitungwiza Mayor Clr Lovemore Maiko was today brutally attacked by bussed Zanu PF thugs inside the municipality’s Town House today.

The Mayor sustained injuries and is seeking medical attention.

He was attacked inside the Town Clerk’s Office by over 100 Zanu PF thugs brought to the Town House in several trucks by several known landbarons who are working in cahoots with the Town Clerk George Makunde to loot council land by prejudicing bona fide home-seekers.

The Mayor was in the process of serving the Town Clerk with a suspension letter when the thugs barged into the office and brutally assaulted him.

Makunde is a member of the Zanu PF Mashonaland Central provincial executive.

The charges against the Town Clerk range from gross insubordination, refusal to obey lawful instructions, gross incompetence, falsification ofpersonal and council documents and habitual absence from duty.

The Town Clerk had last week engineered trumped-up charges against the mayor and his deputy after he knew that a suspension letter would
soon be served against him. The police who arrested the Mayor and his Deputy investigated the allegations and freed them after concluding
that the two had no case to answer.

Today, the Town Clerk went for the jugular and brought in Zanu PF bouncers to physically assault the Mayor.

Police were innocent by-standers when the Zanu PF thugs besieged the council offices to brutally assault the mayor, whose only crime is that
he is trying to bring order, sanity and improved service delivery to Chitungwiza residents.

False allegations have been raised against the Mayor that he allocated his wife a stand, when there is no iota of truth in the allegation.

The MDC notes with concern the systematic political onslaught and vicious assault on MDC-run local authorities in a bid to overturn thedemocratic will of the people as expressed in the last election.

Ex – Soldier’s Horror Abduction Story

Standard|Fifty-two-year-old Wilbert Verenga considers himself lucky to be alive after he was abducted by gunmen from his home who beat him up and left him for dead.

Verenga said at one point his attackers hit him with the butt of a gun before they took him from Mpopoma to a bushy area, between Richmond and Entumbane suburbs.

He was forced to lie on the ground before he was bludgeoned with logs.

Verenga’s crime was that he had refused to disclose the whereabouts of his son, Charles, who is the MDC treasurer for Mpopoma.

His other son, 16-year-old Tadiwanashe, who became his saviour, was not spared the ruthless beatings.

Verenga said the ordeal started on August 18, a day before the much-publicised MDC protests in Bulawayo, which were thwarted by the police.

He said armed men stormed his Mpopoma home in the dead of the night looking for Charles.

“On Sunday, some armed and masked men came here at night and knocked on the door. They said they were looking for Charles, my first-born son,” Verenga said.

“My mother told them that he was not around as he no longer stayed at the house. They insisted they wanted to see him, but my mother refused to open the door for them.”

They left, but returned two days later.

“It was around 9:30pm when the same gang of seven men armed with AK rifles knocked on the front door,” Verenga said.

“My son (Tadiwanashe) told them to knock on the back door. When they were asked who they were, they said they were police officers.

“They kicked open the door and tried to get into our bedroom, but my wife told them that she was still dressing. They barked orders that she should come out.”

Verenga, a former soldier, said when they got in, he noticed that one of them was holding an AK rifle with a folded butt.

“They had parked a commuter omnibus outside. They again asked for Charles, saying they wanted to know why the were organising demonstrations,” he said.

“I told them that we did not know since he no longer stayed at the house. They then forced me and Tadiwanashe into the kombi before they drove us to a bush.”

The gang took away their phones and locked all doors at the house.

Verenga, who still struggles to sit or walk, said once they arrived at the secluded spot, the beatings began.

“They hit me with the butt of the gun on the head, injuring me in the process,” he said.

“They forced me to lie down in the bush and started beating me with logs threatening to shoot me if I did not disclose where my son was.

“They also assaulted Tadiwanashe. They beat me until I almost passed out.”

Young Tadiwanashe eventually disclosed Charles’ whereabouts. He said he did that to save his father’s life.

“They covered my face and that of my father before taking us to the bush. When they took me, I believed they thought I was Charles and when they assaulted me, that is when I told

them that my brother no longer stays with us and I was not aware of his whereabouts,” Tadiwanashe said.

“When I heard them threatening to kill my father I then told them the place where my brother might be to save dad.

“They then left us, but my father was seriously injured. What I realised is that they were using a kombi and a Nissan X-Trail.”

He said they could not return home that night because his father was seriously injured and they slept under a bridge.

In the morning Tadiwanashe went to Entumbane to organise transport to ferry his father to hospital and was advised by one of the residents to report to the police.

Police organised an ambulance that took him to Mpilo Central Hospital where he was admitted for a day.

“I sustained injuries on the head and got three stitches. I also sustained several injuries on the back and the backside,” Verenga said.

A request for medical assistance prepared by the police’s Law and Order section at Western Commonage (CR/other Ref:10,08,19) detailed the injuries suffered by Verenga and his son.

Charles said he was now living in fear because the men who abducted his father and brother were after him.

“I do not know why they were looking for me and who they are as I have never committed any crime or mobilised people for demonstrations,” he said,

“I wonder who I am to be hunted by gun-toting men like a criminal or an insurgent. Do I have any influence in Bulawayo or in politics in the country? I do not see myself as dangerous.

“I am no longer safe anywhere here. If those people were real police officers, I would have handed myself over so I get to know why they are looking for me.”

Justice minister Ziyambi Ziyambi last week told Parliament that victims faked their abductions, a stance Verenga said was insensitive.

“I have heard about the minister’s remarks and it pains me a lot,” he said.

“How much could someone have given me at my age to lie that I was abducted?

“What I can only say is that God must visit and judge him. At my age, I do not think I can still fake injuries. These injuries you see, are they fake?”

Several civil society and opposition activists have allegedly been abducted and tortured in recent weeks after the MDC started mobilising for demonstratoons against President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government.

Zim Training SADC Army

A man walks past an armoured personnel carrier that stations by an intersection as Zimbabwean soldiers regulate traffic in Harare on November 15, 2017.

ZBC NEWS|The SADC region’s contribution to United Nations peace and security initiatives has received a major boost with senior military officers drawn from staff colleges in Zimbabwe, South Africa, Zambia and Botswana undergoing a one week training exercise at the Zimbabwe Staff College.

The joint regional training is in tandem with the Zimbabwe‘s defence policy that supports regional as well as international peace and security initiatives.

Officially opening the exercise code named Uhuru 2019, Chief of Staff Joint Operations, Planning, Air Vice Marshal Jasper Garikai Marangwanda said the integrated mission task force has become the standard vehicle for planning and supporting United Nations peace support operations.

“Peace keeping is becoming more robust, with mandates ranging from immediate stabilisation and protection of civilians to supporting humanitarian assistance, organising elections, assisting the development of new political structures and engaging in security sector reforms,” said Air Vice Marshal Marangwanda.

Head of Mission for the Combined Joint African Exercise, Professor Owen Sichone said the programme is a platform aimed at equipping participants with sufficient theoretical and practical knowledge on the execution of peace support operations.

“The exercise is designed to facilitate achievement of the common understanding by establishing planning process,” said Professor Sichone.

The exercise will see the military, police, correctional services, the civilian component and humanitarian organisations participating.

31 People Arrested As The Sun Sets In Xenophobia Hit SA

Thirty-one people have been arrested since violent protests erupted in the Johannesburg CBD on Sunday.

Shops were looted and set alight, leading to the death of three people on Sunday, police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo told News24 on Monday morning.

“Many cars and shops were set alight,” Masondo said. “The Pep store is in ashes.”

On Sunday, Masondo told News24 police responded to a call about a building that was gutted in Jeppestown at around 05:00, where two men and a woman died.

“The three deceased people… were burnt to death. While at the scene, a group of criminals then took advantage of the situation and started attacking nearby shops,” he said.

Nearby shops were broken into and then looted, Masondo said.

“They then moved into a nearby panel beater workshop where they damaged two cars and set alight one vehicle. At the moment, we don’t know who owns those shops and are calling for owners to come and open cases,” he said.

On Monday morning, Masondo told News24 that violence erupted again in Malvern on Sunday evening.

More shops were looted and set alight. “However, the situation is now under control,” Masondo said.

“We are still counting the cost [of the damage].” Masondo said the situation remained tense.

Nigerians Give South Africans 7 Days To Leave Nigeria

South Africans and their companies operating in Nigeria have been given seven days to pack up their bags and leave Nigeria by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) following an increase in Xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa.

Danielson Bamidele Akpan made it clear at a press conference organised by the Chairman, National Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, in Abuja on Wednesday, that they want nothing to do with South Africans.

Akpan said they have had enough of the xenophobic attacks on their fellow Nigerians and action needs to be taken on South Africans to show strength by the Nigerian government.

He said that they had hoped that the government of South Africa and their citizens would end all forms of attacks on citizens of Nigeria and other African nations.

“Behold, the killings have continued and has even assumed a more dangerous dimension. This worsening development calls for a swift reaction. Importantly, we want to call on Nigerians in South Africa to reconsider their stay in South Africa and return home.

“Having gone through the first phase without any remorse or practical action to end xenophobic attacks in South Africa, we wish to announce that Nigerian students have decided to take on South Africans same way they are doing to our people. We have seen the helplessness of the South African government in reining in their citizens and wish to condemn in unambiguous terms the continued pampering of those involved. Every nation has own internal crisis hence no citizen of other nation should be sacrificed for criminal activities of South Africans or any other.

“Since the economic prosperity of Nigerians can no longer be tolerated and their lives secured in South Africa, there’s no need also to condone the continued flourishing of South African businesses and her citizens in Nigeria.

“We therefore wish to officially ask all South African-owned businesses in Nigeria to relocate in the next seven days. We specifically want Multichoice, MTN, Stanbic IBTC Bank, Shoprite and others to close their businesses in their own interest within seven days.

“In the same vein, we request that South African nationals in Nigeria should return to their home country as we can no longer watch them enjoy peaceful living in Nigeria while our citizens in their country continue to pay with dear lives for no reason other than being resourceful and flourishing in their businesses and career.

South Africans should henceforth leave Nigeria with all their businesses. Nigerians are not joking about it and we are giving seven days ultimatum for this action to be carried out. Diplomacy has failed”.

However, Dabiri-Erewa stressed that the Nigerian government was doing all it could to make sure that the matter is resolved. She said President Buhari will be meeting with his South Africa counterpart, President Cyril Ramaphosa, to discuss on how to end the attacks.

Dabiri-Erewa said that Nigerians are getting angrier as South African kill their own.

“We are reaching a tipping point, we are getting to a point where Nigerians are getting really angry and they can’t take it anymore.

“It’s going to be one of the priorities that the Minister of Foreign Affairs would meet again with his counterpart in South Africa and review the early warning signal that was put in place, that has to be done while diplomatic Channels are being explored,” she said.

“One more death again in South Africa… it is becoming unbearable for Nigerians, you don’t go there and come back with body bags so we just have to do everything we have to do, to ensure that it does not escalate to that level where we start picketing and destroying property… that is not who we are,” Dabiri-Erewa stressed.

South Africa Xenophobic Attacks Shock The World With Video Of A Foreigner Being Burnt Alive.

Disturbing xenophobic attacks on foreign nationals by South Africans have shocked the world after a video from the country showing a man being burnt to death.

The particular video, that is currently circulating on Twitter, captures the moment a man was set ablaze on the road while bystanders watched on as he struggled to quench the fire.

Watch the video below:

South Africans Are Violent People?

By Ebrahim Harvey|Let there be no doubt at all that South Africans are among the most violent people in the world.

In every form of violence, we have among the most shocking statistics, whether it is for murders, rapes, domestic violence, labour strikes, township protests or student unrest.

In this regard we are in fact reliving our history.

I argue that there is in fact no country in the world in which the capitalist system developed as violently as it did here.

This systemic violence in various forms – the uprooting of people from their homes in the rural areas, forced by various measures to seek work in the cities, and the structural violence imposed by the migrant labour system and its mine compounds, hostels, pass and influx controls – was how capitalism was birthed and baptised in South Africa.

That horrendous violence meted out by Dutch and Afrikaner nationalism and British imperialism on black people, since the earliest days of slavery and the genocide against the Khoisan people in the Cape Colony, is necessary to grasp in order to understand the very deep historical roots of structural, institutional and personal violence in this country.

To know and understand today’s violence in its various forms we must begin there.

The point, however, is that the history of this systemic and ubiquitous violence in countless forms left deep scars, to varying degrees, on all the people of this country, but most of all on the oppressed and exploited, and their children.

There is no doubt that much of that violent history affected emotionally and psychologically all subsequent generations.

Today we have horrifying signs of the brutal and savage legacy of such violence all over the country.

Nothing has been spared: schools, universities, libraries, treasured art works, public infrastructure in townships and even hospitals.

Schools burnt to the ground in Vuwani in 2016 come to my mind, as does the violence inflicted even in ICU wards in hospitals during strikes; teachers raping students; students assaulting and raping other students, even children; the heinous “necklace” method of burning to death suspected police informers in the 1970s and 1980s, often by mere hearsay or vague suspicion.

However, we have been savaged by and internalised not only the violence of our history, but also the violence of what has happened in this country after 1994.

Much or most of the violence in schools, universities and townships is not expressions of people worshipping mindlessly at the altar of violence, but of the accumulated anger of failed promises and unmet basic needs.

However, it is no longer good enough to justify today’s horrendous violence by that history.

This is because no matter how justifiable the cause might be, and therefore the violence it might lead to, it does severe immediate and long-term damage to both those targeted and the perpetrators, the consequences of which can be so traumatic that the destructive effects in various ways last for many years.

The terrible violence black children have been experiencing for many years in townships is going to take many years to deal with.

But there is another major concern. The sight of fires blazing and smoke billowing in black townships across the country has been common on television, often from burnt-down public infrastructure.

Those who question and criticise such destructive acts are correct, if for no other reason than that it often not only does not achieve anything towards the satisfaction of the demands made for better services, but it actually worsens the situation, because funds that could have gone towards meeting those demands must now be spent on replacing destroyed or damaged infrastructure. That is severely counter- productive in various ways.

There are also other forms of chilling violence in this country which one hardly hears of anywhere else in the world, like a disgruntled employee who was dismissed or ill-treated.

In one case, instead of referring the matter to the CCMA, the man returned to the employer’s home with friends, gained access, raped and brutally murdered both the employer and her daughter, and then set their bodies alight.

There have been several similar cases over the past decade. How does one even begin to fathom such macabre acts? This is the country we live in, sadly.

Nothing but burnt down frames of the 40 cars which were once worth over millions are left at Salbro Auto on Monday after protesters ran rampant in Johannesburg.

TimesLive|About 2km from the busy streets surrounding the Jeppe police station, several car dealership and shop owners in Malvern, Johannesburg, pick up the pieces after protesters ran rampant in the area on Sunday.

Tears flow as family members of Salbro Auto hopelessly walk through their car dealership which has been burnt to the ground.

Nothing but burnt down frames of 40 cars, which were once worth millions, are left.

Four of the dealership’s burnt cars which protesters attempted to steal stood outside the gates in Jules Street.

The Salajee family has had the dealership since 1991. Owner Abdallah Salajee said when they closed shop on Saturday afternoon “everything was fine”.

Salajee said they were alerted to the violence in the area on Sunday by the owner of a workshop next door.

“Overnight things happened, you come back to nothing on Monday morning. Last night there was not a minute of sleep.

“We feel terrible and we can’t handle it. You can’t even complain to the police or anyone,” he told TimesLIVE.

He said the total value of damage and cars destroyed were estimated to be R2m. The cars were not insured.

“We have to clear up and start from scratch. We just have to turn to God and pray,” the emotional Salajee said.

Violence erupted in the area on Sunday after the mob looted and set alight several shops in the area. Dozens of cars were torched at dealerships.

Many of the 41 people arrested by mid-morning on Monday were caught in the act – looting shops or carrying stolen goods.

Eight suspects were arrested inside a shop at Vusimuzi informal settlement, where there was more looting in Tembisa.

By Monday morning, the streets were buzzing with people, some walking around drinking beer while others took pictures of the damage. The streets were lined with  broken glass, empty rubber bullet shells and burnt tyres.

Isaac Hlatshwayo said he noticed a group of people moving up and down Jules Street at 9pm on Sunday.

Hlatswayo lived in a backroom of the second dealership the mob targeted at 2am on Monday.

“They broke the big gate open and then they came in. They moved two cars out and came into my room where I was sleeping and took some money from me, which was about R120.”

He said the group set a car parked in the corner alight which then ignited all the other cars.

The owner of the dealership, Obinna Henry, said the more than 30 cars were worth millions, pointing to a burnt down Audi TT standing in the back.

By mid-morning on Monday, a local liquor store owner started loading all his stock on a truck. A police Nyala with armed officers stood by. The shop was not looted during the violence.

“I think we are the lucky ones who did not have our place burnt down,” the man said.

Resident and shop owner in the area Lerato Peete said she was “ashamed to be called a South African”.

“In fact, I denounced my South African connection on this day. How is it possible that a black person can be foreign in Africa. Who is a foreigner in Africa?

“My mother was an activist, my father was an activist, because we didn’t have a place to call our own. I was born out of South Africa.”

Mutharika Sets Conditions For Dialogue With Opposition As Malawi Continues To Deteriorate In Post Election Dispute

President Peter Mutharika says he could only meet opposition leaders for talks to end the current political impasse if they set an agenda for such a meeting.

Mutharika: Lets see the agenda first

Speaking in an interview with the BBC, Mutharika said it was possible to meet the opposition leaders; Malawi Congress Party (MCP) president Lazarus Chakwera and UTM leader Saulos Chilima who are challenging in court the May 21 presidential polls.

“We will have to see the agenda. They will have to come up with an agenda then we will see what to do,” said Mutharika.

He said he was equally concerned with the ongoing anti-Jane Ansah protests which he said has seriously injured over 500 people.

On a second thought, however, Mutharika said it would be imperative to wait for the court verdict before substantive unity talks can begin.

“We can wait for the court ruling, it will not be long,” he said.

Constitutional court judges hearing the election case estimate the case might be concluded in four months time.

Since the elections, in which Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) declared Democratic Progressive Party’s (DPP) President Peter Mutharika winner, the country has experienced regular protests led by civil society groups under the banner of Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) and backed MCP)and UTM Party.

Both Chakwera and Chilima are jointly challenging the presidential election results in the Constitutional Court in Lilongwe, and seeking  nullification of the presidential polls.

HRDC, on the other hand, is demanding that MEC chairperson Jane Ansah, who is also a judge of the Malawi Supreme Court of Appeal, should resign for allegedly mismanaging the elections.

WICKNELL DEAD ED: ZPC Boss Jailed 3 Years

Farai D Hove| All seemed not well for the businessman Wicknell Chvayo as the Zimbabwe Power Company Board Chair, Stanley Kazhanje was sentenced to three years in prison.

He was convicted for accepting a US$10 000 bribe Intratek Zimbabwe managing Director, Wicknell Chivhayo.

The ex-convict allegedly paid the bribe to influence Kazhanje’s decisions in the Gwanda multimillion-dollar Solar project which is still to commence since 2016.

Two years were suspended on condition of good behaviour.

The State, represented by prosecutor Brian Vito pressed the magistrate for a stiffer penalty.

Vito said: “The penalty of corruption usually attracts a custodial sentence and if the court act otherwise the general impression will remain that Zimbabwe accepts corruption.”

The magistrate was mum concerning Chivayo as a person.

Three Years Ago They Were The Toast Of The World

Rudo Neshamba

A journey of a thousand miles, of sweat, sacrifice and a few smiles — combined with remarkable goals from Rudo Neshamba — brought the Mighty Warriors to the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. It’s the greatest achievement yet by any national football team in Zimbabwe. It wasn’t so long ago that the Zimbabwe women’s national team played their first international match, on November 11, 2000. They drew 2-2 against Uganda in the 2000 African Women’s Championship.

Now, like one falling in love for the first time, the nation’s heart beats with every tick of the clock as August 3 draws closer.

Then they will step onto the lush green pitch of the Arena Corinthians in Sao Paulo, kicking off their maiden Olympic campaign against one of the best teams in the world, Germany.

Just last year, at their Women’s World Cup debut, another African nation, Cote d’Ivoire, suffered torture at the feet of the unforgiving ‘German machines.’

But should that be worrisome?

Nonetheless, from being on the verge of disqualification to now living the dream of a nation, the Zimbabwe women will be giving their country their first taste of global football on that historic trip to Brazil.

This surely is not about holding up the coveted gold medal to their lips for a kiss, but about an opportunity they just cannot miss, and more so about the rejected stone becoming the chief cornerstone.

“It has been a long and arduous journey indeed, but we pulled through against all odds,” Mighty Warriors goal poacher, Rudo Neshamba, recounted.

Neshamba did not score the most goals in Olympic qualifying — that honour went to Jade Boho of Equatorial Guinea — but she certainly left a mark.

Out of Zimbabwe’s four goals, her three goals (including two away from home) ensured a job well done as the Mighty Warriors shocked the continent in their Road to Rio campaign.

“It feels good to be the heroine, the lady whose goal wrote a new piece of history.”

And the lady who coach Shadreck Mlauzi described as “quite an intelligent player, skilful and a natural goal scorer.”

‘It’s anyone’s game’
Mlauzi, a Physical Education teacher, replaced Rosemary Mugadza in September, prior to Zimbabwe’s match against Cameroon. During our phone conversation, the 36-year-old highlighted the three things that define him: “hope, faith and ambition.”

He admitted to feeling pressure when he first took over; although he has been involved in women’s football for over 16 years, including as an assistant for the country’s Under-20 team, this was his first senior position.

In just six months he has proven he has that Midas Touch, gradually transforming the Mighty Warriors to a team to be reckoned with in Africa:

“One needed to bring in a change of attitude, remove the mental block in the players’ heads, bring in the element of Sports Science and introduce modern training methods which emphasise the difference between work and rest ratio. Make the players believe in the vision of the team, never leaving anything to chance, analysing the oppositions and giving information pertaining how they are supposed to go about certain teams.”

He claims his side is still under construction and aims to build on the physical ability of his players. Mlauzi wants the Mighty Warriors to be known for possession-based football, but he’ll also strive for a balance between defence and attack.

Previously the team’s greatest achievement was their fourth-place finish in the 2000 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations, more than 15 years ago, so an Olympic berth seemed a tall order from the start.

Then they realised the’d have to meet 2015 World Cup participants, Côte d’Ivoire and Cameroon, along the way.

But Zimbabwe took it one game at a time.

Despite little continental success, the Mighty Warriors still bypassed the first round, which meant southern rivals Zambia were their first port of call.

Neshamba made the difference with an away goal in what was eventually a 2-2 draw on aggregate. Zimbabwe’s Olympic dream nearly ended then, when the Confederation of African Football announced their journey was over. ZIFA lacked the funds to send them to Abidjan for the next round.

However, fate (or faith) is a genius at wrecking impossibilities. FIFA overturned CAF’s decision, awarding a 3-0 victory instead to Côte d’Ivoire, who in turn did not show up in Harare for the return leg. The tie was rescheduled, but Cote d’Ivoire withdrew, paving way for Zimbabwe to face the Indomitable Lionesses in the final round.

Cameroon, still fresh from a memorable debut at the 2015 World Cup, were looking to qualify for their second straight Olympics. The Mighty Warriors must have already smelt their exit, but their hope was renewed when they held on to Neshamba’s goal for nearly 70 minutes in Yaounde before Cameroon bounced back to win the first leg 2-1.

In spite of that, however, Neshamba’s eighth-minute strike in Harare proved to be the goal that unlocked their Olympic fortune — a reminder of how in 2011, her goals qualified the Mighty Warriors for the All-Africa Games in Maputo, Mozambique.

The 24-year-old’s beauty of a volley lit up Rafaro in such a special way that the Lionesses seemed too blinded to recover.

Neshamba told FIFA.com, “it was only after our first leg game in Cameroon that we believed we had a chance. Then we actually thought that we would make it.

“I am incredibly proud to help my country achieve this dream. The victory was celebrated throughout Zimbabwe, and we can feel that the whole country is behind the team.’’

The ladies went on to secure a ticket for the 10th Africa Women’s Cup of Nations, to take place in Cameroon beginning November 2016.

They last appeared at the continent’s flagship women’s tournament in 2004.

All in all, a sweet 2016 for the Mighty Warriors. But life is still not fair, especially where women’s football is concerned.

Every now and then, the plea for support of the women’s game is continually sung like an anthem (even in the United States).

It is not that Mlauzi and his heroines do not appreciate the massive celebrations, parade and praise showered in their honour.

“We felt like dignitaries for the whole week,” Mlauzi admitted. But he still adds that “in terms of something tangible, the team has nothing to show for it.”

The captain, Felistas ‘’Figo’’ Muzongondi, said God was on their side.

“It’s by the grace of the Almighty. All along, we knew there was very little support coming towards women’s football and all we did was play for the love of our country and recognition,” said Figo.

“Our focus despite all the financial hardships was to win with a broader view being that of putting the nation on the world map and now that we’ve achieved our goal, we hope that the powers that be will now give us the much-needed recognition which to us was the driving force behind our success.” —

Am Still Young Will Have My Chance With The Warriors

Tino Kadewere

In-form Le Havre striker Tino Kadewere says he is still young and his chance to shine with the senior men’s national soccer team, the Warriors, will come.

The 23-year-old, who has set the French Ligue 2 ablaze with nine goals from the opening six games, breaking a record which stood for eight years in the process, has often been criticized by some for not transforming his European form to the gold and green Warriors strip, something which he says is inevitable.

“I think it is only a matter of time and chance. I am still young, so I am still praying and hoping that one day I will shine for the Warriors and make Zimbabwean people proud,” Kadewere said according to The Sunday Mail.

“I have faith. I am sure that will happen.”

“It’s all about hard work, prayers and determination. I have set goals for myself that I will not be free to mention but I thank God everything is going the way I hoped for because I have always had dreams since I was a little boy,” added the former Harare City man.

Youth Organization Pushes For Power Transformation

Press Statement

First Choice Movement (FCM) is a youth organization that was founded in 2016(Zimbabwe)
based on the principle of pan Africanism.

The African continent is divided on tribal, political, race
and religious lines. The division in Africa was mainly influenced by the divide and rule tactic that
was used by settlers for them to be able to control the Africans.

Colonization came and is past us
but Africa is not yet free.A free people are those who are economically independent.Capital is
still in the hands of our colonial masters and there is need to empower the African.

The message of economic independence is important for our continent.

Land should be returned to
its rightful owners. In South Africa Julius Malema is leading a campaign that is going to make sure
Africans are given back their land. The move by Malema is good but South Africa has to learn
from Zimbabwe.

The continent has been facing serious problems for many years.

Poverty is the root of all the
problems that we have facing and our main problem in Africa has been corruption.

Corruption has
destroyed Africans state and leaders have stayed longer in power because they are afraid to be
prosecuted for corruption.African governments have also been at the centre of abusing human
righs.Free and fair elections are rare in Africa and security forces are used to kill people when
they are supposed to protect them.It is quite sad that Africa is going nowhere because there is a
leadership crisis in the continent.

The continent is being led by old revolutionaries who have an old
way of thinking.Today it is our time as young people to build Africa. It is our duty as our fathers
did their part.

We cannot let old people build Africa when should be retiring from work whilst we
fold our hands.

If Germany had to pay reparations for causing
the World War ,we also need compensation as Africa.Countries that colonized African states they
should also compensate Africa.

Moreso there is need for countries Jamaica,Haiti and the West
Indies to be part of African Union. These people are Africans.

We also ask for blacks Americans to
come back home and invest in their motherland.Marcus Garvey was fond of saying that a people

“Old Leaders Have No Capacity To Transform Economy”

NATIONAL NEWS

If Germany had to pay reparations for causing
the World War ,we also need compensation as Africa.

Countries that colonized African states they
should also compensate Africa.Moreso there is need for countries Jamaica,Haiti and the West

OPINION: Zim problems are caused by corruption and cruelty, not sanctions

By Terence Rusirevi| Zanu continue to repeat the mantra that western ‘sanctions’ are the cause of the economic rot in the country. The coup announcer, SB Moyo, while in London and right before we showed our defiance to him, was regurgitating the same pieties about sanctions at Chatham house. The scarf wearer himself in his dreary speeches continues to blame sanctions for the country’s problems. Even the economically illiterate Zanu war veterans have been given a dictum by their leader to blame sanctions when they deliver their knuckle dragging rhetoric to the masses. They are all at it. But like every explanation Zanu give to the public, it’s all lies! Zimbabwe’s problems are a result of corruption and cruelty and not western sanctions.

Let’s imagine this government cultivates some mythical goodwill in the eyes of the west and are then given US$10bn (no strings attached) to solve the country’s problems.  I know it defies logic, but stay with me on this one. Let’s imagine Mnangagwa and his government are given this huge some of money, how do you think they will use it? Well, I think the money will be spent as follows during the first year:

  1. Government ministers, their deputies, permanent secretaries, their deputies will get salary increases and bonuses, all paid in US dollars (US$2bn)
  • The top brass in the army, police, CIO and the judiciary will also be given the same windfall (US$1bn)
  • A significant amount will be set aside to kick start another Command Agriculture which will be spearheaded by either the scarf wearer or some other military general (US$3bn)
  • War veterans will be given their share of the spoils (US$1bn)
  • Money used to pay companies subcontracted  to ‘sort out’ the problems with electricity and water. These companies will either be owned by or have close ties with the scarf wearer, some generals and/or Zanu top brass (US$1bn)
  • Money set aside to sort out the fuel problems. Companies involved will be those belonging to cronies of the scarf wearer and the generals – the infamous cartels (US$1bn)
  • Equipment for police and army (US$1bn)

After 1 year

  1. Command Agriculture money would have benefited farms owned by military generals and the scarf wearer. More than 75% of the money unaccounted for because of corruption.
  • Water and electricity continue to be in short supply. 50% of the companies subcontracted turn out to be bankrupt, the rest were firewood wholesalers.
  • Fuel problems continue. 75% of money missing.
  • Police and army receive their equipment on time and quickly put it to use by quelling a peaceful demonstration in Harare about the misuse of the US$10bn.

These projections are not too far fetched. In fact, the Zanu government had access to about US$15bn from the diamonds and the country did not benefit  from any of that money. So the idea that lifting ‘sanctions’ is going to improve things in the country is a complete nonsense. First of all there are no sanctions on Zimbabwe.

The Zanu government is not getting access to money from the west not because of sanctions, but because they are shirkers who will also steal the money and use some of it for  repression.

The only time  Zanu will spend money and ensure they get the things they pay for is when they are buying guns, baton sticks and other instruments of oppression. Zimbabwe’s problems are not because of sanctions, they are a result of corruption and cruelty by this Zanu government and unfortunately for Zimbabweans, the person who made himself president in 2017 is the apotheosis of that corruption and cruelty.
