A former Esigodini Agriculture College accounting assistant has been arrested for allegedly embezzling the institution’s funds during his term of office.
Honest Khuphe (32) of Nketa 6 suburb in Bulawayo allegedly converted US$560 which were payments made by students to his own use and went on to forge receipts.
Khuphe was not asked to plead when he appeared briefly before Gwanda magistrate Mrs Lerato Nyathi facing three counts of fraud last week.
He was remanded out of custody to 28 June for trial on his own cognisance. Prosecuting, Mr Silent Shoko said Khuphe stole the money on three separate occasions in 2015.
“On 16 March 2015 Khuphe received US$370 from a college student, Honest Ndirowei and he issued him a top copy of receipt number 447595 without placing a carbon paper. He then made another entry on the duplicate receipt bearing the same receipt number in the name of another student Alice Dube and entered that she had paid US$10 for an application form which she had already paid for.
“Khuphe went on to complete entries on the student ledger card confirming that Honest Ndirowei had cleared his arrears and he converted US$370 into his own use. On 26 June 2015 Khuphe received US$10 from another student but didn’t issue her with a receipt. He went on to update the student ledger card confirming that the student had paid the money and he converted it to his own use,”he said.
Mr Shoko said on 18 December 2015, Khuphe received US$180 from a student Zinhle Moyo and he receipted the money without using a carbon paper.
He said Khuphe made another entry on the duplicate certificate bearing the receipt number in the name of another student Nkosana Ncube and entered that he had paid US$10 for an application form which is a payment that he had already made. Mr Shoko said Khuphe went on to complete entries on the student ledger card confirming that Zinhle Moyo had cleared her arrears and he converted the money to his own use.
“The offence was discovered by auditors who were inspecting school records and the matter was reported to the police. Upon realising that he had been caught Khuphe deposited US$180 on 16 July 2016 into Esigodini Agriculture Institution’s Agribank account. Khuphe defrauded the institution of cash amounting to US$560 and US$180 was recovered. The ledger cards in respect of all the students involved containing details of all the transactions and an auditor’s report can be produced as exhibits,” said Mr Shoko.

HIGHLANDERS suspended executive committee members, Modern Ngwenya and Israel Moyo who have been found guilty on the charges they were facing. The duo now wait for their punishment to be handed down.
Vice-chairman Ngwenya and secretary general Moyo were last Friday formally informed that the tribunal which was handling had arrived at a guilty verdict. In a letter sent to the duo’s lawyer, Byron Sengweni of Sengweni Legal Practice, Matthew Sibindi, the chairman of the disciplinary panel stated that Ngwenya and Moyo were guilty of engaging in acts of disobedience and behaviour that was not in line with the requisites of the club’s constitution.
“At the end of the deliberations, the committee found the 1st and 2nd Defendant guilty for having acted in common purpose in engaging in acts of insubordination and conduct inconsistent with the requirements of the Club’s constitution in performance of their duties,’’ Sibindi said.
The two have been asked to make their submissions in mitigation by end of day tomorrow before their punishment is issued out.
“In view of the above, and to enable the Committee to conclude the process by coming up with an appropriate penalty the Committee is hereby affording the Defendants a chance to submit in writing their submissions in mitigation by close of business by Monday 17 June 209. Once these are received the Committee will then come up with appropriate penalty which will then be incorporated into the Final Determination which will be then availed to you,’’ said Sibindi.
The tribunal chairman expressed their enthusiasm in bringing the matter to an end as soon as possible.
A reliable source however, said the outcome of the case was obvious since the same board that suspended Ngwenya and Moyo formed the tribunal so there was no way they could come up with a not-guilty verdict.
“This verdict was pre-determined because the very Board that suspended the 1st and 2nd defendants form the tribunal. They are not only conflicted but are interested parties so the judgment is baseless — this case will not see the light of the day in any court of law,’’ the source said.
Furthermore, our source feels the Sibindi-chaired tribunal ignored accurate facts presented by Ngwenya and Moyo, instead chose to go with evidence brought by the club’s chairman Kenneth Mhlophe who was proven to be an unreliable witness during the hearing.
“The tribunal totally disregarded the true submissions of the defendants in order to safeguard their ill conceived decision to suspend the defendants based on a false report from a vindictive chairman.”
All is pointing to the sentence being handed down on Ngwenya and Moyo before the end of this week. The two have already indicated their intention to appeal to a higher authority in football, in this case the Zimbabwe Football Association.
CHARISMATIC Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries (PHD) leader Prophet Walter Magaya has offered RTGS$14 000 to pay back US$14 000 to a family of a Bulawayo pastor who allegedly died of stress after investing in the church housing scheme.
The late Pastor Ernest Mutasa, who was a pastor at Assemblies of God died in April after allegedly investing US$14 000 into a PHD housing scheme in 2016.
Pastor Mutasa sold a family house and invested in stands and other business ventures that were promised by PHD in Douglasdale under Magaya’s supposed multi-million dollar housing construction scheme.
After media exposed the issue last week, the church summoned Pastor Mutasa’s family where they proposed to pay off the amount but in RTGS dollars.
Pastor Mutasa’s daughter — Miss Bethel Mutasa, who has been fighting for the church to reimburse the family or alternatively secure permanent accommodation for them met with representatives of the church.
“They gave me bus fare to meet them in Harare, after the issue was publicised. It was during the meeting that they laid out their offer, which I declined, as it is valueless.
“They told me during the meeting that they could not make the payment in US dollars, as laws had changed during that period and would only make a payment in RTGS dollars, which is ridiculous. They acknowledged that the payment was made in US dollars but want to give us RTGS, which cannot and will never account for a house,” said Miss Mutasa.
She said she stormed out of the meeting as the church representatives, one Mr Chatambudza and Mr Mhango, would not budge.
She said her family was considering taking the legal route but due to financial constraints they could not afford a lawyer.
“Had we been financially stable we would have taken the legal route. But because we are poor we cannot. We need some assistance from the leaders of the country if at all they hear our plea. This man has taken everything from us and he cannot continue doing this to people,” said Miss Mutasa.
An official with PHD Ministers Mr Clive Musango acknowledged that the church would pay in RTGS dollars.
“What they paid is what they will get. They paid in local currency and it is what they will be paid. We are following all procedures,” he said.
Meanwhile, a group of Bulawayo pastors has planned on engaging Prophet Magaya, over the matter. The pastors said they were saddened in the manner in which one of their own had died due to a stress related illness, caused by the deal and Prophet Magaya had chosen to turn a blind eye over the matter.
“Pastor Ernest Mutasa was a good man. He believed he could turn his family’s fortune around through the investment he had done with Magaya. As time went on and the deal, failing to yield results it affected his health.
“He was very emotional about the issue and approached some of us before his untimely death to consult us about the matter,” said Reverend Frank Mhlanga, who is the provincial chairperson of the Zimbabwe Christian Ministries Association (ZCMA).
He said the late pastor Mutasa on the day of his passing phoned them to inform them that he had suffered a stroke.
“He phoned the church telling us that he had suffered a stroke before passing on a few hours later. Before his death he indicated to us that the man of God, Prophet Magaya had cheated him. He said this had greatly affected his health and mental being. It was so unfortunate that he passed away before we could do anything to assist him,” said Rev Mhlanga.

Dynamos lost 0-1 to Highlanders today at the much-anticipated match between the two football giants. The game was a goalless draw until the 71st minute when Highlanders’ Cleopas Kapupurika broke the deadlock.
By Own Correspondent- After the matter of who — between Chinx’s two wives Patricia and Ntombizodwa — would get the Sentosa house at its handover ceremony in May 2017, the late Chinx is said to have asked his benefactor, Joseph Nyadzayo, a question that still haunts him to this day. “He said to me, ‘Ko Zodwa pane chamamuitirawo here’ (Does Zodwa also get something)?’
“I realised that we had made a blunder, that we had to do something for the younger wife as well,” said Nyadzayo.
Zodwa is a shortened version of Chinx’s wife’s name : Ntombizodwa.
The second wife confirmed Nyadzayo’s claims, adding that her husband was distressed and died a bitter man after a “sudden unilateral decision” was made to give the senior wife the house.
“It had been decided that I should not get a share of the house and he asked Nyadzayo and the others what they would do for me. He did so three times. I could see he was distressed. He died a very bitter man because of that issue,” said Zodwa.
“Remember that house was built with two bedrooms for the comrade’s two wives. Even though we were not going to stay there together, I needed to retain half ownership of the property,” she charged.
But that is not all.
Zodwa claims that at Chinx’s funeral, a certain lawyer showed up claiming that there was a will. However, the same lawyer later “disappeared”.
“A man came and said he was a lawyer. He said Chinx had written down something about his estate. I later tried to contact him but he started acting up. Maybe someone got to him,” she said.
Zodwa insisted that she does not want anything for herself, but for her children.
“Vana havana chavakawana (the kids didn’t get anything). It affected them a lot and in turn it affected me too. I’m the one who has young kids. I believe that something should have been set aside for my kids to finish school and so forth.
“I left the police force on medical grounds in December last year, which means I could use this help. We are managing though.”
And it seems like Zodwa’s children have got the musical genes.
“They are all very talented. The other one plays guitar for the Airforce of Zimbabwe, the other one is a very promising hip-hop artiste while the young girl who is still at school is already appearing on dramas on television,” she said with pride.
Zodwa said to add insult to injury, her children now feel like they are not Chinx’s progeny.
“I’m now being treated like I was his whore, I was his wife. My father in-law and my husband’s sisters are the ones that came to pay lobola to my people. His children are there. The whole world knew that Chinx had two wives. Why was I treated that way?
“Rangu barika ndoo raita sei? Mutemo wakandiregerera. Anga asingazive kuti comrade vane vakadzi vaviri ndiyani? Nyika yakandipandukira (What was so special about our polygamous union? The law let me down. Who did not know that the comrade had two wives? The whole nation turned its back on me).”
Zodwa argued that the Chairman’s Award (the Sentosa house) that Cde Chinx got was a result of his musical exploits, which she was a part of. “I composed music with my husband. We performed together, wrote together. Now even the Zimbabwe Music Rights Association is telling me that I can only get 20 percent of the royalties. It is very absurd,” she said.
She added: “My husband and I are the ones who used to send money to maiguru (the senior wife). It’s just that I come from a good family, I was brought up well. Otherwise I could have caused mayhem from the start.”
Fortunately, it is not all doom and gloom for Chinx’s widow.
Nyadzayo, who has been working on a film based on the life of Chinx since 2012, says all the proceeds will go towards the second wife’s upkeep.
According to Nyadzayo, Chinx died before the film could be concluded but it had already been agreed that the proceeds would go towards his younger wife.
Nyadzayo said Ntombizodwa’s mortgage still needs to be cleared. He pledged to ensure that whatever proceeds are realised from the film will go towards that.
“She stays in a flat and it has some outstanding monies. I wish to pay off that money from proceeds of the film,” he said.
“The film was already in the pipeline. We had been to Chinx’s rural home in Rusape, where we filmed him in his mother’s hut narrating his life story from birth, how he grew up. We had been to Chimoio, Mozambique, retracing the steps that he took to and from the bush war,” said Nyadzayo.
“I’m in good stead with the widows, ma queen amukoma wangu (my brother’s queens). ‘Ma queen angu’ (my queens), that’s what he called them.
“Chinx’s family is my family and I’m going to ensure that I fix this thing. I started it.”
Nyadzayo added: “I’m happy with Chinx’s family the way it is right now. The only thing I’ll have to remind all of them is never to let Chinx’s music die.
“Look, Macheso is grooming his kids and we have seen many other offspring of late musicians carrying on with their departed parents’ legacies. I wish one of Cde Chinx’s children takes up this challenge,” said Nyadzayo.
Zodwa is grateful for all that Nyadzayo has done for their family.
“That man’s heart is golden. I wish him a long prosperous life. He had built the house with his friend’s two wives in mind but his programme was hijacked.
‘‘‘He told me his plans with the film. I hope all goes well,” she said.

Sunday Times|President Cyril Ramaphosa moved decisively this week to head off an apparent plot by ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule to engineer a “parliamentary coup”.
Magashule’s move could have seen crucial parliamentary committee posts going to loyalists — many of them supporters of former president Jacob Zuma.
Committee chairs wield enormous legislative and oversight powers, controlling how parliamentary committees conduct oversight over ministers and senior government officials.
If successful, the anti-Ramaphosa figures, many of them implicated in state capture and corruption, would have held sway in parliament, potentially frustrating any legislation Ramaphosa might have proposed in his ongoing reform and clean-up drive.
The “coup” attempt is the latest chapter in a saga of defiance in which Magashule has emerged as the principal ANC obstruction to Ramaphosa’s New Dawn.
It comes in the same week that the ANC national working committee (NWC) appointed an investigation into claims that some party leaders, including Magashule, had a hand in forming smaller parties to contest last month’s elections with the aim of reducing the ANC’s majority.
Among Magashule’s choices for top posts in parliament were notorious figures from the Zuma era, including former North West premier Supra Mahumapelo, former communications minister Faith Muthambi and former mineral resources minister Mosebenzi Zwane.
The Sunday Times can disclose that Ramaphosa and other senior party leaders were left stunned when they learnt that Magashule had travelled to Cape Town on Wednesday, planning to announce new portfolio committee chairs, largely drawn from his camp, the next day.
The timing of Magashule’s ANC caucus meeting raised eyebrows as Ramaphosa, his ministers and their deputies were attending a cabinet lekgotla in Pretoria on Thursday.
Well-placed sources said Ramaphosa stopped Magashule in his tracks after his office was alerted by his parliamentary counsellor, Gerhard Koornhof, on Wednesday. He apparently told Ramaphosa that Magashule was set to announce the new chairs of portfolio committees and the whippery on Thursday — even though they had not been endorsed by the national leadership.
The move was seen as part of a fightback by Magashule and his supporters after some of them were overlooked for ministerial and deputy minister positions. In retaliation for their exclusion, Magashule’s supporters in the ANC vowed to “capture parliament”.
Insiders said the proposed list of portfolio chairs was discussed at an ANC top six officials’ meeting on Thursday last week. However, insiders said, the top six had other ideas, and rejected some names on the list.
The top six further decided that consultations with alliance partners should take place before the list was finalised.
However, lobbying for positions continued after the top six meeting. Talk in parliamentary corridors was that even outgoing ANC Youth League (ANCYL) leader Collen Maine had convinced Magashule to include his name.
When Koornhof sounded the alarm on the planned caucus meeting, Ramaphosa’s allies feared Magashule might have tampered with the list proposed by the top six and would table the original names drafted by his allies.
Two sources close to the president and parliamentary insiders said his office ordered ANC chief whip Pemmy Majodina to halt the caucus meeting scheduled for 10am on Thursday.
Some MPs were in buses transporting them to parliament when they received notice of the cancellation.
“There was an impression that he wanted to force through certain names that were not yet agreed upon. Yes, there was a concern people would be slipped in by the secretarygeneral while the president and his deputy
focused on the lekgotla,” said one source.
Ramaphosa’s spokesperson, Khusela Diko, said she cannot comment on ANC internal party matters.
Parliamentary insiders said National Assembly speaker Thandi Modise, who also serves on the NWC, was one of the senior figures who cautioned Magashule about proceeding with the announcement.
Modise is also said to have told Magashule that some of the candidates he was pushing were not suitable to lead committees. Modise did not respond to requests for comment.
The Magashule list included Muthambi (justice committee), Zwane (transport) and Mahumapelo (cooperative governance). Also on the list were national executive committee (NEC) member Tandi Mahambehlala as the new chair of chairs, former security minister Bongani Bongo (international relations) and Joe Maswanganyi (public enterprises).
Former deputy finance minister Sfiso Buthelezi was set to head the finance committee, and known Magashule ally Madala Ntombela was to chair the state security committee. The police committee was to be led by Zuma cheerleader Mervyn Dirks.
The Magashule grouping also planned to take over the ANC caucus’s influential political and strategy committees, which give political direction and marching orders to the party’s MPs.
The intention was to populate the political committee with Zuma allies such as Sdumo Dlamini, Bathabile Dlamini and ANCYL secretary-general Njabulo Nzuza. Dlamini quit as an MP this week.
In the previous parliament, the political committee was chaired by Ramaphosa and included prominent figures such as Naledi Pandor, former speaker Baleka Mbete and her successor Modise.
Insiders say instead of Mahambehlala, top ANC leaders had preferred senior MP Cedric Frolick to return as chair of chairs. Mahambehlala’s name was shifted to international relations, Muthambi removed from justice and Zwane placed as the next labour committee chair. The Ramaphosa camp feared that Magashule would not make these changes.
An MP who is also member of the ANC’s NEC said there was a huge fight over who to deploy to lead powerful structures such as the justice committee and the joint standing committee on intelligence.
The source said the Magashule faction wants control of those committees because they fear that the Ramaphosa camp wants to use the state security apparatus to deal with their rivals.
The other reason the Magashule group wants to control the justice committee is to shield public protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane from possible impeachment. The plan also includes taking over the finance committee to push for the nationalisation of the Reserve Bank and a change in the Bank’s mandate.
The group wants control of the public enterprises committee to frustrate Ramaphosa’s Eskom plans.
Asked about the cancellation of Thursday’s caucus meeting, Magashule said it was because he had not been ready to make his presentation despite travelling to Cape Town the night before.
“Here, today, there was nothing. I was just consulting because I was not ready. I had to consult the whips,” he said in reference to Majodina and National Council of Provinces chief whip and caucus chair Seiso Mohai.
However, a memo sent to MPs on Tuesday, seen by the Sunday Times, lists the “deployment to portfolio committees and whippery” on the meeting’s agenda.
Majodina denied that she was instructed by Ramaphosa to cancel the meeting. She blamed the postponement on the mass resignations of former ministers. She said these had “disorganised the setup” because some of the people who resigned were chairs, whips and committee members.
“Therefore we could not go ahead when we were supposed to revisit all that was done in the past. We had to manage that properly.” She said the meeting was postponed because they “could not go to caucus with a half-cooked list”.
The matter is expected to be finalised at a special NEC meeting sitting in Cape Town on Tuesday.

Opposition leader Nelson Chamisa has revealed more details on the car accident which occured on Saturday in which Advocate Thabani Mpofu was involved.
Writing on social media, Chamisa said,
So the vehicle veered off the road, rolled once and landed on the side Adv Mpofu occupied. (Advocate Mpofu) was trapped for some time together with his driver who’d lost consciousness. Some injuries, blood, bruises, pain on the chest and ribs. Just spoke to the People’s advocate. He is ok. Thank you, Jehovah!
Standard|The resort town of Victoria Falls has almost completely dollarised due to the volatility of the local currency, but the development has adversely affected residents, it has emerged.
Landlords, tuckshops, vendors, small supermarkets, hotels, hardware shops and other suppliers are now accepting only United States dollars.
The only exception are the big retail chains such as OK, but there are fears that they could go the same route as suppliers are reportedly pushing to be paid using the greenback.
The big supermarkets are, however, accepting bond notes and RTGS, which was trading at 5,6 to the US dollar at the time of going to print.
Even Victoria Falls Town Council is collecting rates in US dollars, despite a recent central government policy decision forcing public entities to accept RTGS and bonds.
Residents are fuming over the council resolution, and during the Zimbabwe Investment and Development Agency (Zida) parliamentary committee’s public hearings at Chinotimba Hall last week, they took turns to denounce the move.
Last month, council proposed a US dollar-denominated supplementary budget for 2019, but residents rejected it.
Unfazed, council went ahead and publicised the supplementary budget through the government-controlled media on June 2.
During the Zida meeting, the chairperson of the parliamentary portfolio committee for Foreign Affairs, Industry and International Trade, Kindness Paradza, insisted that the US dollar-based budget was illegal.
“Government has made it clear that all government-run offices must charge in local currency.
“What council officials are doing is illegal. We shall take your (residents’) grievances to parliament, but I can confirm that the Local Government minister does not know about that and has not approved it,” said Paradza, an MP.
But Victoria Falls councillors were not amused by Paradza’s remarks.
“Do not deceive people and feed them with lies,” Ward 11 councillor Edmore Zhou charged.
“We buy water chemicals in foreign currency and bond notes are being rejected everywhere.”
Council advised residents that if they had objections, they should visit council offices within 30 days.
The decision by property owners to charge residents in foreign currency is driving tenants out of the town and into peri-urban and rural areas.
A Mosi Oa Tunya Secondary school teacher and a local waiter on the sidelines added that relocating to peri-urban settlements was ideal for them.
“I am a widow and a teacher with children to look after. I was a tenant in Mfelandawonye suburb where there is no electricity and I cannot afford rent anymore.
“I approached Chief Mvuthu last month and he granted me a stand to build a homestead. I have already moved my goods to that new place, even though I haven’t put up permanent structures,” said the teacher.
She was paying US$70 for modest lodgings despite taking home a monthly salary of RTGS$400, which, on the black market, translated to around US$40 as of yesterday.
She commutes to work in Victoria Falls.
Chief Mvuthu confirmed that urban residents were flooding areas such as Monde, Lupinyu, Chidobe and BH28 that are under his jurisdiction.
Tertiary students on industrial attachment face the possibility of dropping out because they also have to pay for their accommodation, goods and services in US dollars.
Owen Zimusi, a Midlands State University intern in Victoria Falls, said basic commodities that included accommodation were too expensive for him and feared that he, like most of his colleagues, might fail to complete his attachment.
Farai Dziva|The MDC has strongly condemned the harassment and intimidation of its members by state security agents.
The party also denounced the abuse of the police force by Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government.
See the party’s statement below:
The MDC condemns the State’s abuse of the National Police Service in pursuing a narrow political agenda of self-preservation.
Yesterday, the dynamic national youth leader, Obey Sithole, was summoned to the police station to clarify his speech during the funeral of the late hero, Hon Pastor Vimbai Java in Glen View.
For purposes of maintaining a professional outlook, the Police must stick to their conduct outlined in section 208 of the Constitution part of which obligates them to stay away from party politics.
The MDC, it’s members and leaders will never be bullied out of exercising political rights provided for in the Constution.
These include freedom of expression, freedom of assembly, freedom of association, the right to participate in activities of a political party of choice and the right to demonstrate.
All institutions of the State must facilitate the exercise of these rights, not curtail them.
Mnangagwa’s administration must fix the economy or ship out, intimidating dissent is unsustainable.

Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) said that load shedding will be eased this weekend.
ZESA claimed it implemented stage 2 of the load shedding schedule due to a technical fault at the Hwange Thermal Power Plant that had resulted in the loss of significant generation capacity.
The power cuts are expected to ease this week, according to the company.
“ZETDC has started restoring Hwange. One of the small units is now on the grid producing about 80MW tomorrow (Saturday) morning one of the big Units producing 160MW also goes on stream.”

Farai Dziva|Opposition Party MDC Says Emmerson Mnangagwa is a killing President, not a listening leader.
In a statement the party accused Mnangagwa of hypocrisy.
“The interview kills all hope.
The man is out of sorts, confuses elementary principles of economics and runs on bus stop theories, most of which is generated by his paid social media trolls.
He is clearly not a listening “President” as he claims but a killing one.
Citizens have been killed in cold blood by guns purchased through tax payer’s money.
Inflation is killing Zimbabweans and destroying people’s capacity to take care of families.
A soft genocide is ongoing in the public hospitals. There are no drugs, doctors and nurses are on the verge of a strike, not even blades and gloves have been procured in the hospitals.
He has killed the dignity of the working people of Zimbabwe, value of wages has been eroded, teachers no longer afford a single day of Admission at a central hospital.
Public servants are one illness away from disaster after a lifetime of hard work. That is not what listening Presidents create.
He has killed employment and all hope for young people who now prefer to find an exit through the borders.”

Farai Dziva|The country’s largest opposition party, MDC, has described Emmerson Mnangagwa’s live radio interview on Friday as a dog’s breakfast.
In a statement the party said:
“If anyone listened to Mnangagwa’s interview seeking answers to the crisis, all doubt was removed, solutions are simply not available.
The man believes that the RTGS dollar which he struggles to pronounce is the strongest currency in the region.
He misses the basics about the relationship between exports and imports as the strength behind a currency.
He fails to note that the currency is a reflection of the social contract or it’s absence thereof.
He fails to recognize that the exchange rate is collapsing daily, something which is not happening with the Rand and Pula, the two currencies he makes reference to.
Then, he makes a bizarre argument about the importance of fuel price hikes, arguing that it is the cheapest in the region forgetting that section 43 of the RBZ Act still pegs the fake currency at par with the US dollar and more importantly that civil servants are not earning any forex.”
“The interview makes more scary revelations and threats on the business community, chilling threats about making their business tough.
The whole interview was a dog’s breakfast.
By refusing calls from the public, it is clear that he knows he has not earned the trust of the public. He is aware he has no solutions to the public and has no grasp of policy issues and the politics of the day.
Such a sad development for a promising nation.”

The MDC Youth Assembly joins the African community and the rest of the world in commemorating the Day of African Child.
On this day commonly referred to as June 16, we honour the heroic efforts of those that participated in the 1976 Soweto Uprising to demand their right to be taught in own language.
This year’s theme for the Day of the African
Child commemorations is: “Humanitarian
Action in Africa: Children’s Rights First”.
It is regrettable that 39 years after Zimbabwe attained independence, children’s rights are still wantonly disregarded.
Sadly the government of the day is part of the perpetrators and not the protector!
From Gukurahundi to Operation Murambatsvina, Operation Makavhoterapapi to August 01 military killings, examples are plenty whereby this monster regime’s actions adversely impacted on children’s rights.
So many children like Itai Dzamara’s are now orphans thanks to the ZANU PF regime!
What of Sylvia Maphosa’s children – that woman who was shot in the back by the military on 01 August 2018!
Not to talk of thousands who die of malnourishment, cholera and at birth due to the economic hellhole and lack of primary health care.
It is not mendacious that the failed ZANU PF government is the author-in-chief of all this rot!
The supreme law of the land, the Constitution of Zimbabwe guarantees the right to basic education, but this right has not been accorded with many parents finding it difficult to pay for the education of their children.
While Zimbabwe joins the rest of world in commemorating the Day of African Child, many children have to celebrate this day in streets.
It is commendable that the MDC Youth Assembly last month spared time to celebrate Chairman Obey Sithole’s birthday with these homeless children often stigmatized as “street kids”.
As the MDC Youth Assembly, we are motivated by the heroic efforts of the gallant 1976 Soweto heroes to confront this inhuman regime for the betterment of young people and future generations.
As such we are not going to watch as the rot continue unabated!
We are the vanguard of our future and its preservation calls for action today and not tomorrow!
As the Assembly, it is our conviction that only a pro-people and young president can safeguard rights of young people and children.
And in Advocate Nelson Chamisa we have do have a rightful candidate to take this nation forward.

By Dr Gus Manatsa| “In a world of conspicuous institutional failure, one entity that still offers some important lessons for the practice of governance is Singapore.” – Kent Calder.
Zimbabwe is experiencing a structural regression, with an acceleration of de-industrialisation and economic informalisation. Whether he denies it or not Mnangagwa has been part of the leadership that led to this economic regression. Worse still, Mr Mnangagwa is presiding over unprecedented confusion, economic meltdown and violence we haven’t seen in as many years. These challenges are caused by difficult economic problems, including infrastructure and regulatory deficiencies, policy uncertainty, and insufficient formal employment.
We can see the glaring mistake done by current President who recently appointed government leadership based on party loyalty, tribal lines or connectedness. Instead, the President should have picked the best citizens to run the country. Unfortunately, we are seeing a bunch of individuals whose combination of financial mismanagement, disrespect of the law and business ignorance can only by their venality. For comprehensive success, Zimbabwe needs exceptional leadership. This means a team lead by an inspirational leader of the second Republic, ably supported by shrewd economic architects and roving philosophers. This exceptional team will implement exceptional policies.
Zimbabwe has massive land and natural resources. But this country has been transformed into a land of villages, rundown urban areas and an endless shortage of basic commodities. Basic economic freedom, which is a very important component of total freedom has been taken away, resulting in an exodus of Zimbabweans into the diaspora. This trend is accelerating at an alarming rate under the current regime.
High taxes, excessive capital restrictions, foreign currency shortages and restrictive immigration policies have made Zimbabwe one of the most unfriendly places on Earth to its diasporans. Unlike most progressive countries, Zimbabwe lacks liberal policies, free trade, low tariffs and non-tariff barriers. While it takes months to start a business in Zimbabwe, one can have a company running in Singapore in three hours and less than a day in New Zealand.
For a complete transformation, Zimbabwe needs a leader who understands the politics of this diverse country and put together the laws that create a stable, peaceful place that makes it a magnet for national, regional and international investors. No amount of publicity stunts will create a shortcut to this rationale. The leader must believe that Zimbabwe’s development and growth is tied to the shared values of its different ethnic, political and religious groups. Unless he changes, Mnangagwa currently has too much baggage to be a uniter and statesman par excellence who can command the respect of all. The “tichingotonga” mantra the President continues to boast about shows that he has failed to transform into a national leader guided by pragmatism.
Pragmatism means that a country does not try to reinvent the wheel or charter expensive planes for endless trips to nowhere. Need good smart researchers in the president’s office. No matter what problem the country encounters, somebody, somewhere, has solved it. Let us copy the solution and adapt it to Zimbabwe. Copying best practices are something any country can do. However, implementing “Honesty” is the hardest thing to do. Corruption is the single biggest reason why most Third World countries have failed. The greatest weakness of Zimbabwe’s founding fathers was that they were ruthlessly dishonest, and this includes ED. They failed and still fail to see that being shrewd and cunning was more than sloganeering.
Transformation dictates that the new leader be willing to keep the government small, efficient and honest—qualities absent and foreign to Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF. With 20 cabinet ministers, 13 deputy ministers and nine provincial ministers, 2 vice-presidents- the size of the executive is nowhere near lean. Compare this to the USA which has 15 cabinet ministers, Germany has 14, Japan has 19, Kenya 20, and China has 26. The USA has a population that is 21 times bigger than Zimbabwe, China is 92.4 times bigger. How then does one justify 29 ministers and 13 deputy ministers? The lean government makes it easy to do business with. I have personally witnessed the nightmare of dealing with a bloated government.

By A Correspondent- A new legislation that allows lifestyle audits of all public officials to ascertain if their living standards are commensurate with their incomes is set to be introduced, Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi has said.
Addressing delegates at the inaugural African Anti-Corruption Forum in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, Ziyambi said legal instrument is being fine-tuned to empower law enforcement agent to seize all properties obtained through unexplained wealth.
He said Government was coming up with laws for protecting whistleblowers and witnesses protection.
“Zimbabwe is implementing policies and legislation that regularises lifestyle audits of all public officers to ensure that their lifestyles are ‘reasonable’ with their levels of income,” said Ziyambi.
“The Finance Act of 2018 has established the Public Finance Technical Response Unit under the Accountant General for the purposes of recovering misappropriated wealth and institution of criminal proceedings in cases where red flags where raised by the Accountant General.
“The Presidential Powers (Temporary Measures) (Amendment of Money Laundering and Proceeds of Crime Act and Exchange Control Act) Regulations, allows the law enforcement agencies to obtain court orders to seize unexplained properties.
“A new Money Laundering and Proceeds of Crime Bill is addressing all recommendations made by the Financial Task Force (FATF) and will be promulgated into law by the end of 2019.”
Ziyambi said Zimbabwe had made great strides in addressing corruption through enacting stringent laws and capacitating all State agencies charged with fighting corruption.
He said Zimbabwe had ratified a plethora of international conventions through several legal frameworks which include the Constitution, the Anti- Corruption Commission Act, the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Public Entities Corporate Governance Act and Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Act.
He Mnangagwa had declared his Government’s zero tolerance to corruption and perpetrators would be dealt with in terms of the laws.
“Our President, has pronounced a “Zero Tolerance” to all forms of corruption and the need to deal with corruption decisively,” said Ziyambi.
“As a result, the Government has developed policies, plans of actions and programmes to boost the fight against corruption in Zimbabwe and these are ready for sharing with other African States as part of external cooperation.
“Government has continued to support the work of the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission to ensure that they discharge their mandate professionally and effectively without any fear or favour.
“The thrust of Government’s strategy is to have coordinated and amplified efforts from all stakeholders which include the law enforcement agencies, the Judiciary, the National Prosecuting Authority, all Government Institutions and Departments, private sector, civil society, media and members of the public.”
He said the establishment of specialised anti-corruption courts was testament to authorities’ seriousness about dealing with corruption.-StateMedia
By A Correspondent- Government is in the process of formulating a renewable energy policy which is set to be published soon, a senior government official has revealed.
Deputy Energy and Power Development minister Magna Mudyiwa told parliament that government would avail land to investors interested in setting up solar energy plants in the country.
Said the deputy minister:
“….Solar energy falls under renewable energy and we have got a policy on renewable energy which will be published very soon. We are encouraging as many people and investors as possible who want to invest energy so that we can add on to our grid wherever possible, particularly now that we are experiencing this shortage of electricity during the day.
We have got plenty of sunshine in Zimbabwe and investing in solar energy will help us as a country to alleviate the shortages that we are experiencing on solar energy.
What happens is that we have so many investors, some who are foreign and some within the country. As long as they have their funds to set up the solar plants, we will assist them to get the land if they do not have the land where they want to set up the solar plant system.
We will also try as much as possible to expedite the process where they are supposed to go to ZERA for licencing and they are also supposed to hold discussions with ZETDC for the tariffs.
Once that is agreed and everything is above board; we also have the EMA to make sure that the environmental impact assessment is done. Then if ZETDC can add on to that grid they have to make that assessment whether it is possible to add their electricity on to the grid and once that is done, we welcome such investors.
So, our policy is that we are encouraging the investment in solar as much as possible. “
By Own Correspondent- Environment minister Prisca Mupfumira has revealed that Zimbabwe risks increasing human and wildlife conflict due to the increased population of elephants in the country which is way above the recommended country’s carrying capacity.
She said the country has the capacity to carry an estimated 50 000 against the current 84 000.
Said Mupfumira while responding to a question from Gokwe Chireya legislator Tonderayi Moyo:
“The issue of human and wildlife conflict does not matter whether it is in urban or rural area. What we are looking at is how we prevent human and wildlife conflict. I will be coming shortly with a paper on the elephants because that is where we have an issue.
The amount of elephants compared to what we are able to carry; our carrying capacity is around 50 000 elephants and at the moment we have over 84 000 elephants, which means we have shot our capacity. As you are aware, the animals require land for feeding and water. As a result, because we have excess numbers, there is conflict between the humans and the wildlife. These are some of the issues on why we are hosting the first ever wildlife conflict under the African Union (AU) and the United Nations (UN).
Wherever there has been conflict in certain areas, the department of Parks and Wildlife has been there to assist in making sure that we preserve both the humans and take care of the wildlife. It does not matter whether it is in urban or rural areas, what we are talking about is the human-wildlife conflict wherever it is. We are doing our best to make sure we prevent the conflict and make sure that there is co-existence.
We will be re-launching the Communal Areas Management Programme for Indigenous Resources (CAMPFIRE) Project because that is one of the projects which manages such issues as human and wildlife conflict. We need to co-exist and give each other space and that is work in progress and we are proud that we are going to host the first ever such summit in Victoria Falls.”
By Talent Gondo- President Emmerson Mnangagwa has implored citizens to “buckle up and be strong” adding that austerity was necessary for prosperity.
He said just like everyone else in the country, the measures put by his administration were affecting his welfare adding that he ate what the ordinary person ate and also wore what they wear.
Said Mnangagwa:
“When we started austerity measures we cut salaries of ministers and us too the top officials. But what I eat is what you eat, what I wear is also what you wear.
The lives of our people which we want to make better must be achieved after going through several aspects of reforming our economy, reforming the way we do business and in that process, a lot of suffering will come but what we will achieve is what we are looking forward to as a goal.
So far we have identified what we need to do in the many areas of our economy.
We cannot reach where we want to go without resurrecting the economy that had collapsed. The situation in this country was because of various issues major of which was sanctions which collapsed the economy and currency.
If we are to move forward we need to buckle up and be strong. It’s necessary to walk that journey if we don’t take such measures we will not make progress. We have to sacrifice some things in order to prosper.”
By A Correspondent- A Harare man who also admitted to being a ZANU PF member who masqueraded as a military officer during violent January protests has identified the army officer who gave him the uniforms.
After having told the court previously that he was issued with military uniform at the Zanu PF headquarters, Mr Shepherd Magorimbo told the Harare Magistrates’ Court last week that he was given the uniform by Fungai Previous Makoni, a member of the Zimbabwe National Army’s (ZNA) artillery department.
Harare magistrate Obedience Matare then ordered that Makoni be brought to court to answer to those allegations. Prosecutor Molly Murozvi told Matare that army officials at the ZNA headquarters confirmed that Makoni was indeed a member of the army and was based in Domboshava.
Murozvi also reported that the officials promised that they would facilitate Makoni’s appearance in court and also said that they would give her response on the matter. The feedback was however not forthcoming.
Magorimbo has since been acquitted of charges including robbery committed during the January protests.
These developments come when the army and police have in the aftermath of the protests claimed that rogue soldiers were responsible for the fatal shooting of protesters during the demonstrations. They also claimed that their uniforms were stolen and were used to commit offences by criminals.
They also claim that protestors broke into police armouries and stole weapons
By A Correspondent- Harare City Council’s parking division, City Parking, is reportedly no longer issuing parking tickets for $1. Many motorists have suspect fraud since parking marshalls with the business unit have only been issuing the $2 invoices.
The parking business in April this year increased their tariffs to $2 per hour from $1, citing the deterioration of the country’s economy.
One motorist said:
When you want to only pay for 30 minutes, the attendants tell you that it is no longer available despite all their signs stating otherwise. City Parking should address this situation fast.
City Parking raised its tariffs claiming that all their suppliers of items such as till rolls, uniforms, fuel, clamps, insurance, and parking equipment had increased the costs of their stocks due to inflation.
They argue that raising tariffs was meant to recoup costs incurred so as to keep the business running.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa has reassured the nation saying that top government officials including himself were being subjected to the austerity measures which are affecting the masses as well.
Mnangagwa said he is also eating exactly what the average Zimbabwean is eating and suffering the same. Zimbabweans are failings to buy simple things like bread resorting to alternatives like dried maize grain with tea for breakfast. Is that what Mnangagwa is eating?
In an interview which was broadcast live on Friday evening, Mnangagwa said,
When we started austerity measures we cut salaries of ministers and us too the top officials. But what I eat is what you eat, what I wear is also what you wear. The lives of our people which we want to make better must be achieved after going through several aspects of reforming our economy, reforming the way we do business and in that process, a lot of suffering will come but what we will achieve is what we are looking forward to as a goal. Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube’s austerity measures have been roundly criticised for causing suffering among the masses.
By A Correspondent- Zesa Holdings has sought treasury support to continue optimum production of electricity at its thermal power stations amid rising expenses largely driven by a spike in coal prices.
This comes at a time when hydropower continues to shrink due to rapidly dropping water levels at Kariba Dam.
Treasury sources confirmed that Zesa had submitted a proposal for support to the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development “which is still under consideration”.
Speaking to the state media, sources within the Ministry of Energy said:
“As it is, Zesa will definitely require support from the Treasury in the absence of a tariff hike . . . otherwise leaving the situation as it will certainly have dire consequences.”
It was further revealed that coal prices had gone up from about $27 to $88 per tonne. Despite the increase, the tariff has remained at 9,8c per kilowatt hour.
ZESA, however, was seeking to raise tariffs by 30 percent, a move described as inflationary by Finance minister professor Mthuli Ncube.
He said:
“Any ill-advised sharp increase in ZESA tariff rates combined with power outages that we are already facing will be most unwelcome, and will certainly trigger another round of price increases and inflation.
Meanwhile, ZESA has increased load shedding hours with some areas going without power for 16 hours a day.
The load shedding dubbed “stage 2” has resulted in power being cut during peak hours, that is, morning and evening.-StateMedia
The South African Broadcasting Commission (SABC) is facing serious financial issues, and has warned that a communication blackout is ‘imminent’.
Speaking to the Sunday Times, SABC board chair Bongumusa Makhathini, said that the national broadcaster had to choose between paying staff and municipal accounts at the end of March.
It opted to pay its staff and now owes the City of Johannesburg more than R13.5 million. However the broadcaster is still facing a serious shortfall.
“I’m not sure how we are going to pay for salaries come end of June,” said Makhathini.
“We have also not maintained any of our infrastructure and a communication blackout is imminent. We anticipated ‘Day Zero’ in March, but we have managed to stay on air until now.”
Makhathini said that the broadcaster also owes signal company Sentech R317 million and SuperSport R208 million.
However, it appears that government is not prepared to let the broadcaster fall away just yet. A department of communications spokesperson told the Sunday Times that it was in the process of considering a R3.2 billion bailout for the SABC.
Failing state enterprises
The SABC is just one of a number of state-owned enterprises that is dealing with a major financial crisis.
According to the Treasury, South Africa has no option but to increase financial support for Eskom.
The government approved a R69 billion ($4.6 billion), three-year bailout for the debt-laden company in February, but both finance minister Tito Mboweni and Eskom Chairman Jabu Mabuza have since indicated that it won’t be enough.
The enormous pressure of keeping the power utility afloat led to the resignation of CEO Phakamani Hadebe at the end of May.
He was followed by South African Airways (SAA) CEO Vuyani Jarana, who tendered his resignation at the start of June.
In his resignation letter to SAA board chairperson JB Magwaza, Jarana unpacked how uncertainty about funding and slow decision-making processes were delaying the airline’s turnaround strategy.
“The strategy is being systemically undermined, and as the group chief executive officer, I can no longer be able to assure the board and the public that the LTTS is achievable,” he said.
“Whereas government injected R5 billion of funding in the 2018/2019 financial year, a big chunk of that was used to fund creditors up to the end of March 2018.
“We have not been able to obtain any further commitment from government making it very difficult to focus on the execution of the strategy,” Jarana said.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police has reported that a South African citizen was lured from South Africa to Zimbabwe by Mulungisi Ndlovu and Josia Moyo, both of number 72916 Corner Fox and Simon Muzenda Road, Waterfalls, Harare to purportedly explore business opportunities in the transport industry.
The trio reportedly entered Zimbabwe on 02/06/19. On 06/06/19 whilst booked at a lodge in Kadoma the suspects requested to use the complainant’s car to visit their families.
Mulungisi Ndlovu did not turn up, while Josia Moyo later vanished with the complainant’s Toyota Hilux, silver in colour, registration number KCB 797, Temporary Import Permit in respect of the vehicle, Samsung J7 cellphone, Nokia 3310, passport and national identity card. Both suspects had not returned to the complainant’s lodge at the time of reporting on 10/06/19
The ZRP says it is looking for the two suspects and they are appealing to members of the public with information to report at their nearest police station, telephone 0242 748836/703631 or whatsApp
The resignation of former South Africa President Jacob Zuma allies from Parliament after they were overlooked for cabinet positions has left the ruling Africa National Congress keenly watching their next move.
While analysts cite an economic motive in the resignations – the pensions for ex-ministers is higher than a member of Parliament’s salary – the fact that most of them are allies of the disgraced Zuma suggests a political motive too.
Those downplaying the impact of the resignations suggest President Cyril Ramaphosa is cleaning house but others warn the resignees could “come back to bite” him.
“All the people who resigned were dropped from their ministerial positions.
It has a lot to do with protecting their income which would have declined if they stayed on as MPs,” political analyst Ralph Matheka said.
More than 10 senior politicians have resigned as legislators.
Former ministers earn $162,000 (2.4 million rand) per year in pension compared to $74,000 (1.1 million rand) annually for MPs.
The latest to resign were Bathabile Dlamini and Derek Hanekom. Nomaindia Mfeketo, Jeff Radebe, Siyabonga Cwele, Susan Shabangu, Tokozile Xasa and Dipuo Letsatsi-Duba had resigned earlier.
Nomvula Mokonyane, the former environmental affairs minister and ex-home affairs minister Malusi Gigaba resigned before the cabinet was announced two weeks ago.
Ms Mokonyane also declined to be the House chairperson in the National Assembly.
Parliament places a cut-off date by which ex-ministers should decide whether to continue as MPs.
Dlamini, however, bucked the trend saying she had been used as a scapegoat in a campaign orchestrated through the media to portray some ANC members as unsuitable to lead.
“Some ANC members were using the media to demonise people like me, while painting themselves as committed, clean and innocent,” she said in her resignation letter in reference to corruption allegations that hang over Jacob Zuma’s administration.
Such grievances persuade political analysts like Mandla Mzimela that the resignations may return to haunt President Ramaphosa.
“The Zuma faction is onto something because most of the MPs who resigned are from his camp unless if Ramaphosa is cleaning house. But either way, it’s not looking good for Ramaphosa,” Mr Mzimela said.
He said President Ramaphosa cannot afford to take his eye off party politics given the factional fighting in ANC.
“They now have all the time to mobilise and get rid of him. It would not surprise me if Ramaphosa becomes the first South Africa President to fail to finish a single term,” Mr Mzimela said.
A cryptic tweet by Mr Hanekom, a Ramaphosa ally, that he was ready to begin his “next chapter quite soon,” did not help in discerning the import of the exits.
Analysts warn there could still be more resignations before the State of the Nation address on June 20.
Linda Masarira|Our problem is not MDC A nor is it ZANU PF. I am part of that problem and l owe the nation and the world an apology. I and my colleagues in Civic Society are the biggest liars to the MDC and to the world.
If we honestly want to solve the problems in Zimbabwe let us deal with the career activism syndrome where people become professionals in activism.
I wish one day the donors would open their eyes and see the mess they created in Zimbabwe and l intend to write a book on the impact of donor funding on Zimbabwean activism.
I have been an activist for the past 21 years and l regret the lies and half truths that we have been telling the MDC and the world.
We do this in order to remain relevant and keep our jobs. CSO directors belong to Zimbabwe’s elite, same level with some senior ZANU PF officials. I know some directors who drive latest BMWs and their wives, we have high salary pecks and often do creative accounting.
We run fake programs where we just don’t care about impact on communities as long as we have done workshops and got the money.
We then tell our colleagues in the MDC that we have done Civic education in such and such communities and write fancy reports when there is nothing significant that we have done.
We have chosen to be partisan having friends and members of the cabal working in donor agencies such as USAID, EU etc who fund us exclusively so that we push a certain political agenda.
Here is the problem: our actions actually strengthen ZANU PF by default.
We mislead the opposition into believing that they will win the next election. We stampede to please the opposition leaders through fake reports and make them comfortable through our lies.
We divert donor funds meant for peace campaigns and other community programs meant to empower citizens so that they are able to come out of fear and stand up for their rights into personal use or to fund opposition party activities.
Right now l know there was a meeting very recently at Harvest House where there was a suggestion to “manage Linda Masarira and Anglistone Sibanda, Anglistone controls Matabeleland and he had become too powerful” no problem if that is said by the party.
Ironically those sentiments are from fellow civic Society colleagues who run their organizations from Harvest House, fund a so called Civic Society retreat to Nyanga to strategize on how to deal with poor Rev Anglistone Sibanda.. like seriously
We have lost it as Civic leaders and we are the loudest on social media lying to all of you in the diaspora and creating negative perception about our country just to sustain our employment in Civic activism while hoping to get positions in government, should Chamisa win or becomes part of a GNU.
The US senators came to Zimbabwe and held meetings guess with who? Opposition leaders and us, myself included, what did we tell them?
I guess the reaction by the Committee on African Affairs tells you what we said to them.
When the former British Ambassador Cathrine Liang talked about “giving ED a chance” we came out guns blazing at her, the motive was not about our anger against ED, it was about an impending threat on our lavish lifestyles and livelihoods because that meant that DFID and other British Embassy funds that we have been abusing over years will come to an end or be channeled to ED’s government and Hon Biti also attacked the British in sympathy with us.
We exaggerate things and confuse the world out there only to keep our jobs and funding coming through.
Our major problem is not ZANU PF but us, myself included in Civic Society. We have the loudest voices and sophisticated IT skills and control some journalists and public perception yet very deceptive and cunning.
We don’t need those sanctions, they kill the little that is left of the economy and make the poor more poorer. You don’t treat a wound by pouring soil that contains bacteria. The US senators should have reached to Chiredzi, Gwanda South, Hurungwe, Gokwe Nembudiya, Madlambudzi, Chireya, Nyazura etc to get the view from the people who are really affected, than to rely on our fancy cooked reports and lies that we tell the world in order to protect our jobs.
Unless we deal with this cancer, we are not going anywhere.
Off course there are people who have done exceptionally well if l can mention ZESN, ZLHR, NANGO and a collective of Matabeleland Based CSOs under the Mat Collective banner that have tried to be objective and not captured by the party but they are often under funded except those based in Harare.
Suffice to say it’s appalling that CSO leaders meet at Harvest House to make Civic Decisions.
Standard|A Harare man who disclosed in court that he was issued with military uniform at the Zanu PF headqurters, which he used to terrorise residents during the January protests, has revealed the identity of an army official who allegedly gave him the camouflage.
Shepherd Magorimbo, who admitted that he was a member of Zanu PF, told the Harare Magistrates’ Court last week that he was given the uniform by Fungai Previous Makoni, a member of the Zimbabwe National Army’s (ZNA) artillery department.
After Magorimbo’s disclosure, Harare magistrate Obedience Matare ordered that Makoni should be summoned to appear in court to respond to the allegations
Prosecutor Molly Murozvi told Matare that she communicated with army officials at the ZNA headquarters, who confirmed that Makoni was a member of the army and was based in Domboshava.
Murozvi said she asked the official to facilitate Makoni’s appearance in court, but was told that the army would give her a response later on.
However, the response was not forthcoming.
One of Magorimbo’s pictures where he was clad in army uniform went viral on social media after his arrest in January.
Magorimbo was acquitted of robbing a motorist, Nicholus Mupazi, along Baines Avenue in Harare, and Tapfumaneyi Muviyi of $94 and four mobile phones on January 15.
This was despite the fact that he was arrested by the army at the Seke Road flyover while clad in a ZNA uniform after he was identified by one his alleged victims.
Police and the military claimed in the aftermath of the protests that rogue soldiers were responsible for the fatal shooting of protesters during the demonstrations.
They also claimed that their uniforms were stolen and were used to commit offences by criminals.
Former Zimbabwe Defence Forces chief of staff Lieutenant General (Retired) Douglas Nyikayaramba also alleged at the time that protesters broke into police armouries and stole guns which they used to kill citizens, including a police officer, during the national shutdown that turned violent.
But the army later admitted that police investigations had shown that deserters and bogus soldiers were responsible for the killings.
Reference is made to The Standard (June 2 to 8 2019) edition’s story titled “Joint police, army operations to flush out illegal miners raises stink”. The story was written by Brenna Matendere.
In the article, the reporter alleges that soldiers and police officers are being bribed to collude with illegal miners and in the process turn a blind eye to the violence and illegal mining activities being perpetrated by various gangsters with connections to some politicians.
For the record, the allegations are not true as the army and police operations to flush out illegal mining activities are above board and focused on bringing sanity in the mining sector.
The uniformed security services will not be perturbed by these false allegations, which are obviously based on unverified information from people with sinister motives to stifle the operations.
It is sad to note that some non-governmental organisations and allies are now querying the operations, security and peaceful atmosphere prevailing in the mentioned mining areas.
As alluded to in the police comments given to Matendere, the security services will certainly not condone any acts of indiscipline or criminality by members and will thus take action immediately as is the case with Constable Nyashanu.
Let me take this opportunity to remind readers and the public at large that in executing their operations, the army and police have their constitutional mandate which guides them. They will, therefore, not be distracted or swayed to take sides in fighting the illegal menace, which is contributing to the challenges bedevilling the national economy.
We urge members of the public to continue co-operating with the uniformed services in bringing to book all criminal elements and in the promotion of law and order in the country.

DYNAMOS’ record in the league matches that they have played in Bulawayo this season is horrible.
In their three visits to the country’s second biggest city, they have managed just a point, from a possible nine.
They were beaten 2-0 by Chicken Inn, drew one-all against Gweru-based TelOne, who have shifted base to Bulawayo for their home matches, and also lost 2-0 to Bulawayo Chiefs.
Chiefs’ victory was their first win of the season.
More worrying for Dynamos coach Tonderai Ndiraya is that his side picked red cards in two of those three matches.
Today, they have a chance to exorcise the Bulawayo demons when they face their old rivals Highlanders at Barbourfields Stadium, in what would be Dynamos’ last league trip to the City of Queens and Kings this term.
“We have not been really lucky in terms of results in that part of the country and this is our last trip there, and that has been another motivating factor to the boys. You want to end on a high, get good results and what a platform for the players to show the country how much they have progressed as a group; and that they have put behind the results of the past matches,” Ndiraya said.
“We are making sure that they forget (about the past results) the moment they step onto the turf. They should be focussed on the job at hand. Winning that match will erase all the other disappointments that we have had in the last games. We are hoping we can pull a shocker and get a result against one of the biggest teams in the country.”
The two oldest clubs in the county have both had a bad start to their season, as they currently sit on the bottom end of the log standings.
“Of course, they (Highlanders) are struggling. We are also struggling, but in terms of improvement, we are way ahead of Highlanders. We are taking confidence from that fact. It’s always interesting to play Highlanders, especially at Barbourfields Stadium,” Ndiraya said.
“Those are the matches we always look forward to as a club. We have enjoyed some ‘home support’ from our supporters in that part of the country, so we are hoping that we will give something to cheer on Sunday. This is a game which we have really prepared for, because it’s the biggest game on our football calendar wwwlocally.”
Ndiraya has almost everyone available for selection after the return to full fitness of skipper Edward Sadomba and the foreign imports of Herve Mbega, Junior Nkahan and Robert Sackey.
“It’s a game which you don’t have to really motivate the guys because they know what they are supposed to do. That has sort of made our jobs easy this week.
The commitment was just something else. The competition for jerseys was great this week, and we are scratching our heads on who to drop and who to take to Bulawayo,” the Dynamos mentor said.
“It’s a good feeling. It makes my job easier. But we are going to fight to deal with over-excitement because that is what naturally happens when you have players who are eager to play. And sometimes when that happens, there is a risk that some will lose focus and will not perform to the levels that we expect them to.”
Winning the match will be massive for Dynamos, something that Ndiraya said he would emphasise to his players. But there is another message he has been telling his players.
“These are the games you market yourself as a player. It’s a big game which will have a big crowd and to spice it all, it will be on television, so this is the time to shine, to make a mark and make a name. That has been my message to my players,” he said.
Of the two teams, it is Highlanders who have had the worst start, and reports have started to emerge linking technical manager Madinda Ndlovu away from his job.
Ndlovu has reportedly signed a contract with Botswana side Gaborone United. But the Highlanders mentor this week skirted the exit buzz.
Fans have been baying for his blood as their club lurched from one bad result to the other, but if he can guide his side to beat Dynamos, then all his sins will surely be forgiven.
“I am still the Highlanders technical manager. I don’t know where you got that letter from. But I think I will still be around to the end. I doubt if they will fire me,” Ndlovu said.
“I will beat some teams and will start with Dynamos. Highlanders fans have not heard me talk about leaving the club, so for me, it’s one of those stories.”
By A Correspondent| The ousted former ZANU PF National Commissar Gen Engelbert Rugeje has responded to rumours that he was involved in an accident on Thursday.
– STORY CONTINUES – CONTINUE READING –
VIDEO LOADING BELOW:
It was reported that Gen Rugeje was Thursday afternoon hospitalised in Masvingo following the said car crash.
But an audibly fit Rugeje told ZimEye none of that ever happened.
Fears for Rugeje’s welfare came from the long established history of suspicious accidents that have affected most ZANU PF National Commissars since independence. Since 1980, every NPC has suffered either a humiliating exit, or a suspected assassination.
It is thought that Rugeje’s removal from the position last week was a result of serious infighting inside ZANU PF between Emmerson Mnangagwa and his deputy Constantino Chiwenga. It is for this reason and others that the angel of excommunication would hit him.
But Gen Rugeje speaking early Sunday morning, said
“Nothing of that sort happened” he said.

“I was never, I never even had an accident with a fly, ” he added.

“No, I will stop there,” he replied.
NEWLY-APPOINTED Zanu-PF National Political Commissar Victor Matemadanda has sensationally revealed that some senior ZANU PF officials have been abusing their positions to position their girlfriends into party positions.
Speaking during the party’s Matabeleland North Provincial Co-ordinating Committee meeting in Lupane on Saturday, Matemadanda said he is going to name and shame all party officials involved in the sex for position scandal.
He said he was going make sure that the culture of conscripting girlfriends and homeboys without a straight history in strategic party positions to build empires of people who submit to certain party seniors was going to end, adding that President Mnangagwa was aware of shenanigans of those that were dividing the party through lies.
“I will make sure that corruption in the party will be a thing of the past. There will be no sacred cows in the fight against rot in Government and the party. Sacred cows will be those that are not yet born. I will help the President in the fight against corruption,” he said.
Matemadanda reiterated that the ruling party is filled with lies and rumours which are destroying the party, adding that he was going to make sure he dismantles those and ensure correct procedures were applied in line with the party constitution.
The vibrant former war veterans leader further castigated his party for a heartless eviction of people from land they were settled in during the uncoordinated fast trek land redistribution exercise.
“If they are to go on, they are supposed to identify land first for people before evicting them. We do not have as a party a culture of harassing people. We all know that times are hard but people are losing property in the evictions that have not been okayed by the party,” he added.
The PCC was called to address the issue of Lupane East constituency by-election after the death of Sithembile Gumbo.
The by-election will be held on 3 August and he vendorsed the decision of the provincial elections directorate to choose Mbongeni Dube over Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube as the Zanu-PF candidate.
Explaining the process, party provincial chairman Richard Moyo said there was no time to hold primary elections and as a province they agreed to use the criteria of going back to the previous results of the party primary elections where Dube was second to Gumbo.
He said there were five others who had submitted CVs but they all agreed with the criteria except Lupane council chairman Councillor Fibion Ngwenya who was phoning the national office complaining that the party was going to lose.
By a Correspondent| MDC President Nelson Chamisa’s lawyer, Thabani Mpofu was yesterday afternoon involved in a car accident in Mashonaland.
The mishap happened in Muzarabani and the renowned lawyer had travelled for a church event, the MDC spokesman, Jacob Mafume told ZimEye.
Scores of Zimbabweans became disquieted when news of the accident surfaced towards the close of day. Fears were compounded by the long history of suspicious car accidents which go back to the very foundations of the Zimbabwean nation. From Josiah Tongogara, to William Ndangana, to Moven Mahachi, to Peter Pamire, to Edward Chindori Chininga, the story of assassinations has dogged the very veins of the Zimbabwean psyche. The greatest of these include the accident that killed the former MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai’s daughter, Vimbai in Kwekwe last month, a tragic accident that involved members of the military.
Following allegations by the street preacher, Talent Chiwenga that his car was tampered with by state agents just before Wednesday’s accident that killed the latter’s wife, the timing could not have been more perfect. Many Zimbabweans took to the conclusion due to the fact thaf Mpofu has been Nelson Chamisa’s lawyer in the just ended 2018 electoral challenge ( although he has also represented the nemesis Emmerson Mnangagwa before. )
At this rate where are heading to and who is safe, the MDC party commented in a tweet Saturday evening.
Bu the party’s spokesman, Jacob Mafume told ZimEye, the lawyer’s condition was not as serious as people thought, while saying he was still to get to the bottom of the full details. Below were his brief comments-

State Media|AFTER the matter of who — between Cde Chinx’s two wives Patricia and Ntombizodwa — would get the Sentosa house at its handover ceremony in May 2017, the late Cde Chinx is said to have asked his benefactor, Joseph Nyadzayo, a question that still haunts him to this day. “He said to me, ‘Ko Zodwa pane chamamuitirawo here’ (Does Zodwa also get something)?’
“I realised that we had made a blunder, that we had to do something for the younger wife as well,” said Nyadzayo.
Zodwa is a shortened version of Cde Chinx’s wife’s name : Ntombizodwa.
Zodwa claims that at Cde Chinx’s funeral, a certain lawyer showed up claiming that there was a will. However, the same lawyer later “disappeared”.
“A man came and said he was a lawyer. He said Cde Chinx had written down something about his estate.
Zodwa said to add insult to injury, her children now feel like they are not Cde Chinx’s progeny.
“I’m now being treated like I was his whore, I was his wife. My father in-law and my husband’s sisters are the ones that came to pay lobola to my people. His children are there. The whole world knew that Cde Chinx had two wives.
Fortunately, it is not all doom and gloom for Cde Chinx’s widow.
Nyadzayo, who has been working on a film based on the life of Cde Chinx since 2012, says all the proceeds will go towards the second wife’s upkeep. According to Nyadzayo, Cde Chinx died before the film could be concluded but it had already been agreed that the proceeds would go towards his younger wife.
The only thing I’ll have to remind all of them is never to let Cde Chinx’s music die.
Ntombizodwa, a former police officer, is now enjoying her retirement at her home in Norton.
State Media|A BEITBRIDGE-based businessman-cum-foreign currency dealer is battling for life at the United Bulawayo Hospitals, after he was shot several times by robbers, who allegedly broke into his house, stole more than R500 000 and also got away with his car.
The businessman has been identified as Muchineripi Hlarigo.
Police confirmed the incident, which occurred last Sunday night, where the robbers are said to have broken into his home, before ransacking and getting away with R569 000. Police national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said police were investigating the matter, despite no arrests having been made.
“He arrived home shortly after midnight, driving his car — a Toyota Runx. After he got into the house three suspects broke into the house and gained entry through the screen door and a window, which was slightly opened. Soon after, they tied his wife up, before assaulting and shooting him at close range. They then began ransacking the house and found the money stashed in a bedside drawer,” said Asst Comm Nyathi.
He said they also stole cellphones before making their getaway in his vehicle.
“They got away in his car which is valued at US$4 500,” he said.
Asst Comm Nyathi said police were concerned about the public’s lack of caution, especially the practice of keeping large amounts of money in their homes.
“It is sad to note that people don’t take heed of the messages we give them about keeping large sums of money in their homes. In most cases this points to shady dealings. It is very risky to keep large sums of money in homes and the public is therefore again reminded to desist from doing so,” said Asst Comm Nyathi.
According to sources Mr Hlarigo was shot in the hands, legs and stomach.
“He was rushed to Beitbridge District Hospital, before being later transferred to UBH, where he is recovering in the Intensive Care Unit,” said the source.
The source went on to allege that Mr Hlarigo said one of the assailants matched a description of a man who was recently released from jail.
A 32-year-old man from Waterford suburb in Bulawayo who severely assaulted his girlfriend who is 11 years older than him and dragged her from the sixth to the ground floor of a flat, after a misunderstanding over a late night call, has been sentenced to perform community service.
Simbarashe Dunira was sentenced to performing 350 hours of community service, for savagely assaulting and putting his girlfriend, Ms Sifikile Mpoli’s (43) life in danger at her place of residence at Warnborough Mansions in the Central Business District.
Dunira was convicted by Bulawayo magistrate Mr Lesego Ngwenya for physical abuse last week and was sentenced to perform community service at Waterford Pre-School.
He was initially slapped with a 12-month prison term, of which two months were suspended for five years on condition he does not commit a similar offence during that period.
Presenting the State’s case, Mr Leonard Chile told the court that Dunira was in a relationship with Ms Mpoli.
“On 21 April 2019 and at around 3am, a misunderstanding arose between Dunira and Mpoli over a phone call received by the complainant. Dunira confronted and blamed Sifikile of cheating on him,” said Mr Chile.
The court heard that Dunira assaulted Ms Mpoli with fists and open hands all over her body, before dragging her from the sixth floor to the ground floor.State media
THE Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (Zera) has not issued a licence to garages to sell fuel exclusively in foreign currency, an official has said.
This comes as the number of garages demanding payment of fuel in foreign currency
increases.
The garages are hiding behind the fact that Zimbabwe is using a cocktail of currencies but surprisingly they refuse the RTGS dollars. Zera acting chief executive officer Eddington Muzambani said the authority does not issue licences for fuel service stations to sell in foreign currency.
“No fuel service stations have been licensed to sell fuel in foreign currency, such a licence currently does not exist. We verify that those selling in forex would have procured forex on their own,” he said.
However, speaking before a Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Energy last year, Mr Muzambani suggested that the Ministry of Energy and Power Development should allow some players in the fuel industry to sell fuel in foreign currency. He said if more players are allowed to sell fuel in foreign currency, that will improve fuel supply in the country. That is due to the fact that those selling in foreign currency will no longer be relying on the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe allocations.
A number of fuel service stations in various parts of the country have since resorted to selling fuel in foreign currency.
“Zera monitors fuel quality in the supply chain and sanctions licences of companies found selling fuel not meeting national fuel quality standards. The public is encouraged to report any service stations suspected of selling poor quality fuel. The public is also advised to desist from buying fuel from unlicensed fuel dealers and from those making bogus and unverified claims,” said Mr Muzambani.State media
NEWLY-APPOINTED Zanu-PF National Political Commissar Victor Matemadanda yesterday said he is not going to be cowed into submission by corrupt factionalists who are fighting to control regions and provinces through proxies.
Speaking during the party’s Matabeleland North Provincial Co-ordinating Committee meeting in Lupane, Matemadanda said corrupt party officials have no place in the new political dispensation and they were going to be named and shamed.
He said he was going make sure that the culture of conscripting girlfriends and homeboys without a straight history in strategic party positions to build empires of people who submit to certain party seniors was going to end, adding that President Mnangagwa was aware of shenanigans of those that were dividing the party through lies.

THE public will soon access cheaper basic commodities at Grain Marketing Board (GMB) depots throughout the country as the Government moves to mitigate the wanton price increases by unscrupulous businesspeople.
This was said by President Mnangagwa on his maiden radio interview with Capitalk 100 FM which was broadcast live on Friday evening. In recent months, the country has witnessed price increases by some businesspeople who are profiteering at the expense of the public.
“When we say the road we are on is tough, these are some of the tough things. These are the challenges that we have to surmount. There is an issue of basic commodities that we use every day. These had been going up each day and we called the businesspeople to discuss this and they agreed to reduce prices but it seems they have started again. So now the basic foods will be availed.
GMB has points throughout the country and now we will have our food there, the cost of cooking oil, flour, mealie-meal and other basics will now be subsidised,” said President Mnangagwa.
The President lamented businesses that were thriving on the hapless consumers but said this would come to an end as commodities would be available soon. He said some employers were short changing their employees by selling products in foreign currency and not awarding salaries in that same currency. President Mnangagwa said price controls were not going to work, but market forces should influence the prices of commodities.
“For the economy to grow we must not prescribe prices for goods, market forces must determine the prices, we need competition, we need more and more people in our commerce and industry,” he said.State media
THE last time Edward Sadomba featured in a Battle of Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League duel at Barbourfields was in 2008 on the wintry Sunday afternoon of July 13.
It ended with a 1-1 scoreline, with Douglas Zimbago putting Bosso ahead in the 31st minute before Murape Murape responded for DeMbare three minutes before the breather.
Most of the players who now put on the blue and white shirt were still at primary school level then.
Now back at DeMbare, after 10 years on an international football journey that took him to South Africa, Mozambique, Sudan and Libya, Sadomba finds himself in a dressing room full of Premiership rookies.
Back in 2008, when Sadomba made a blistering start – scoring five goals in the opening five matches – DeMbare paraded an array of stars like Desmond Maringwa, Justice Majabvi, Norman Maroto, Leonard Tsipa and Mtshumayeli Moyo. Today, as they head into another instalment of the Battle of Zimbabwe in Bulawayo, the ailing Harare giants can only boast of a bunch of novices, most of whom were playing lower division football last season.
If selected, it will be the first time for the likes of Tawanda Chisi, Munyaradzi Mawadza, Junior Selemani, Ngandu Mangala and the impressive Emmanuel Jalai to play in the Battle of Zimbabwe, later on in front of an intimidating Soweto Stand at Barbourfields.
Subsequently, a lot will be expected from Sadomba, who unfortunately is yet to score in seven starts for Dynamos
Sadomba, who has played a total of 563 minutes, including the away match at Chicken Inn during which he was red-carded after only 42 minutes, insists he is not under any pressure to score “because I have other roles that I play apart from scoring.” “Contribution is not made on the field of play only, sometimes you contribute off the field. There are some roles that I play even off the pitch, like always reminding the new boys about the team’s culture and history.
“The main target during the week was to make sure all the players know exactly what it means to play for DeMbare, especially during games like the big one coming on Sunday (today).
“These are the kind of games that can make a player, club heroes are made in these games and we have been talking about it with fellow players.
“The good thing is that some of the players are getting it, even the combinations are now coming up.
“As for myself, I am not under any pressure (to score) because the club comes first. If I don’t score and the team wins then that’s it. “Sometimes you fail to score but you create scoring opportunities for others.” said the 35-year-old skipper.
Inconsistent Dynamos, who have been operating like a yoyo since the start of the season, are winless against Highlanders in their last three league meetings.State media
IRATE Harare City fans nearly manhandled Herentals owner and player Innocent Benza as they accused the 47-year-old of bribing referees following the Sunshine Boys’ defeat at Rufaro yesterday.
Controversial Midlands-based referee Thabani Bamala once again hogged the limelight for the wrong reasons in a game that produced two first-half goals plus a dubious penalty early in the second stanza.
Harare City had raced into a ninth minute lead through debutant Ashwin Chihowa before the exciting Juan Mutudza equalized five minutes later.
Bamala, who had to be escorted off the pitch, awarded Herentals a penalty in the 54th minute, which was converted by skipper Blessing Majarira, even though the ball appeared to hit Takudzwa Chimwemwe’s back as he attempted to block a Mutudza lob.
The controversial Bamala, who made headlines on April 7 when he denied CAPS United what looked like a clear goal in their Premiership match against Highlanders at Barbourfields, was at it again at Rufaro yesterday.
This time it was Harare City who felt cheated.
City coach Mark Harrison, who described yesterday’s game as scandalous, had no kind words for Bamala whom he accused of denying his side “two penalties” in the first half.State media
PROPHETIC Healing and Deliverance (PHD) Ministries founder Walter Magaya has been sucked into a US$900 000 land scandal after buying a farm which was sold illegally.
Kalulu Farm located in Goromonzi, was sold to Magaya yet it had not been distributed under a deceased person’s estate.
This was exposed in a letter dated 7 June, 2019, written by Samukange Hungwe Attorneys on behalf of Nicholas Obert Mukomberanwa to the PHD leader.
The Mukomberanwa family through its lawyers is seeking to cancel the transaction and recover the farm.
Prophet Magaya was given until Tuesday to respond to the deceased family’s demands, failure of which legal action will be taken against him.
Lawyer Mr Everson Samukange wrote, “We understand that you are the current owners of a piece of land situated in the district of Goromonzi measuring 295,5847 hectares otherwise known as Kalulu Farm and you attend such ownership on the 30th of April 2018. You will recall that the said piece of land, Kalulu Farm was previously owned by the estate of the late Anderson Tichafa Mukomberanwa under DR No. 1256/05 and you purchased it from the estate.
“By reason of a Last Will and Testament of 19 February 2002 by the late Nicholas Obert Mukomberanwa, Kalulu Farm was included for distribution in his estate. His will has been accepted for administration purposes by the Master of High Court.”
Mr Samukange demanded that, “Our instructions are to therefore seek that your Deed of Transfer be reversed and attendant restitutions be afforded so that the farm is dealt with under DR 1839/15 as read together with DR 1256/05. In this connection, we write to inquire your attitude towards our client’s interests in Kalulu Farm, viz-a-viz your impugned tittle.”
According to Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) of March 2017, between Nyarai Gurupira, Nicholas and Abigail Mukomberanwa and Plant Africa represented by Prophet Magaya, the preacher paid US$250 000 upon signing of the MoA and instalments of US$150 000 per month which were to start from 31 March 2017.State media
THE gospel power couple of Pastors Charles and Olivia Charamba is in a fix!
They formed Rooted in Christ Ministries in October last year after leaving the Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM), in which they had ministered as pastors for two decades.
But creating a balance between the music and church business is proving to be a challenge.
A general feeling among their followers is that they are gradually drifting away from music, focusing more on the new church. Apparently, Rooted in Christ Ministries is growing faster than they had anticipated and now requires more of their attention.
In fact, the church, which is stationed at David Livingstone Primary School, seems to be overtaking their music influence.
Previously they were holding their services at the Zimbabwe College of Music and Ambassador Hotel but the congregation outgrew those venues.
Accordingly, the couple is now sacrificing live gigs and studio time to dedicate more time to the church. Clearly the revered couple find themselves in a quandary.
They are dithering between pleasing the highly demanding music fans and fulfilling their new found mission.
It is now rare to come across an advertisement for a Fishers of Men (Pastor Charamba’s backing group) gig, both in and outside the capital.
They now only feature briefly at corporate functions or at charity events like last month’s Air Force of Zimbabwe “Winter Warmer Charity” show. Other than that, they simply fulfil annual events like when they entertained retiring health personnel at Harare Hospital free of charge.
To make matters worse, their recent offerings “WeNazareta”, “Abba Father” and “Voice of Miriam” received tepid responses from the public.
Over the years, the Charambas have helped popularise gospel music through recorded music and enchanting live performances. Their gigs in venues like Harare Gardens, Aquatic Complex and the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC) were a must attend.
But the gospel first family’s enthusiasm for music is fading. Some critics even argue that this is one of the major reasons why worship shows have somewhat lost their lustre.
Live show attendance figures have slumped over the years.
But giants such as Alick Macheso, Winky D and Jah Prayzah stand as beacons of hope in their respective genres. They have employed strategies that have kept them afloat.
Could the establishment of the church indeed be the reason for the Charambas’ shift of focus?
Speaking to The Sunday Mail Society, Pastor Charamba attributed the development to blossoming responsibilities.
“Apart from music and church, we have other responsibilities that include goodwill-ambassadorial duties, board membership, parental, music lectures and mentorship programmes. Some responsibilities come with age, some are inevitably brought about by our experience and stay in the arts sector,” said Pastor Charamba.State media
EGYPTIAN assistant coach Tito Garcia has suggested the Warriors will be dealing with a world-class player in the calibre of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo when they face Mohamed Salah in the opening 2019 AFCON finals opener at the Cairo International Stadium on Friday.
The extremely-gifted Egyptian forward is now targeting the Nations Cup silverware after helping Liverpool win the UEFA Champions League last season.
Salah did not play for the Pharaohs when they struggled to beat Tanzania 1-0 in an international friendly here on Friday after arriving in camp later than others following his Champions League heroics.
“Sure, Salah is a great player and he is currently in the top rank alongside Messi and Ronaldo, but we also have other players who can be like him one day,’’ Garcia told Time Sport TV channel.State media

Addressing party members in Chipinge yesterday Siziba said:The significance of the Soweto uprising to the present day Political economy is vital.
Students rose against an oppressive racist apartheid regime, a struggle that went down to history. We in Zimbabwe gather against a background of an oppressive regime and we are faced with the task to liberate ourselves as the youth.
In Chipinge youths are suffering but they have diamonds.
We also call upon fellow youths in African to unite and fight for a true egalitarian, democratic African anchored on a socially just economy. “
Grain Millers have revealed that the country is left with just one month’s supply of wheat.
The Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe (GMAZ)said that a consignment of wheat is stuck at Beira port in Mozambique awaiting payment from the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ).
This was revealed by Masimba Dzomba, who is the GMAZ vice chair while speaking an engagement meeting with stakeholders in Masvingo on Thursday.
He said: We are left with one month’s supply of wheat in the country. We are talking to the RBZ so that wheat stuck in Mozambique can be delivered to millers.
But at the moment, there are no bread shortages as we still have one month’s supply.
Dzomba revealed that his organisation has agreed with retailers against hiking prices of its products.
He continued: GMAZ agreed with retailers on a self-regulation model and we are officially dispatching price monitoring teams countrywide to ascertain if the retailers are sticking to the recommended pricing model.
If there are realistic prices for basic commodities, it ensures minimum interference from government.Newsday

Former First Lady, Grace Mugabe is reported to have controversially acquired 16 farms in Mashonaland provinces in violation of the government’s policy of one farm per person.
This was revealed by President Emmerson Mnangagwa in an interview with a Harare-based radio station, Capitalk 100.4 FM on Friday night.
Commenting on the ongoing land audit report produced by the Justice Uchena land commission, President Mnangagwa said:
The interim report I have is that I think, about eight provinces have been done they are left with some two or so provinces that have not been completed but the majority of inconsistencies relate to multiple ownership of farms.
We have some farm owners especially of higher rank in society having more than one farm, some having as many as nine.
I know of a particular lady, Stop It (Mrs Grace Mugabe) who has over 16 farms and the law says one family one farm.
Once the audit is over we should be able to implement that policy.”
Mrs Mugabe reportedly used her political muscle to evict villagers from their land especially in the Mazowe area to pave way for her vast empire.State media

The Zifa president has courted the country’s most sought after contemporary musician and lead member of the band Third Generation, Jah Prayzah to coin a new song for the Sunday Chidzambwa-mentored side.
“We know that Jah Prayzah has quite a number of followers and he is also a Warriors fan. So, I asked him to compose a song for the Warriors. I hope that will also motivate our Warriors,” said Felton Kamambo.
For Jah Prayzah, the challenge is huge and he understands the role that music plays in football.
“The idea is amazing and we are going to do it. . . . Just to get everyone in the football mood, needs music.
Football does not go without music. We are going to do a great song,” said the dreadlocked muso.
Indeed music plays a part before, during and after the match.
Hopefully the next offering by the singer will evoke feelings of happiness as it connects the Knowledge Musona-led ship with the fans.

Police have made 14 arrests after five separate attacks in London left three men dead and three others injured in the space of 24 hours.
An 18-year-old man was stabbed to death at about 16:42 BST on Friday in Wandsworth, south London.
Police were called minutes later, at 16:54, to Plumstead, south-east London, where a 19-year-old man was shot dead.
A man in his 30s then died after he was stabbed in Tower Hamlets on Saturday afternoon.
In the early hours of Saturday two men were stabbed in Clapham and another was stabbed in Brixton.
The condition of one of the men injured in Clapham is not yet known, while the injuries sustained by the others are non life-threatening.
London mayor Sadiq Khan said he was “sickened” following the death of the two teenagers.
Six males – aged between 16 and 19 – have been arrested on suspicion of the murder of the teenager in Wandsworth, who died from stab wounds in Deeside Road.
Tooting MP Rosena Allin-Khan said the killing was “heartbreaking” and “absolutely tragic”.
After the shooting in a car park in Hartville Road in Plumstead, three boys aged 16 and 17 and a 17-year-old girl were arrested on suspicion of murder.
Armed police, local officers, the London Ambulance Service and an air ambulance all attended, but the teenage victim died a short while later.
A section 60 order, which allows police to stop and search people, has been authorised in the Greenwich and Bexley areas.
Police were also called to a fight on Bedford Road near Clapham North Tube station in south-west London at 03:22, where two men suffered slash and stab wounds.
Four men have been arrested – two for violent disorder, one for carrying a bladed instrument and the other for possession of a Taser.
At 04:00 police were called by the ambulance service after an altercation at a pub in Coldharbour Lane in Brixton, south London, where two men were injured.
One was stabbed and remains in hospital while the other received minor injuries.
Officers later attended a crime scene in Alton Street, Tower Hamlets, just before 14:00 BST where a man in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering stab wounds.
The deaths take the total number of murders in London in 2019 to 56.
This time last year there had been 77 homicides, 48 of which were stabbings. -BBC News

By Rumbidzai Madhibha| World Vision Zimbabwe has started the mobilisation of US$10 million which is needed to assist over 100 000 people affected by Tropical Cyclone Idai victims.
In a statement shared to ZimEye by the World Vision Zimbabwe communication Manager Andrew Shamu, the organisation needs about US$10 million for their emergency relief to the over 20 000 families affected by the cyclone for the next 9 months.
To date US$ 6.7 million in cash and resources is already available and the organisation, together with its partners have been working hard to mobilise for resources in order to assist the affected people.
According to the statement, World Vision will focus on an intergrated programming approach targeting 100 000 individuals from about 20 000 households through rehabilitation of shelter, improving access to water and sanitation facilities, food security and livelihoods among other short and long term interventions.
Said the organisation:
“Tropical Cyclone Idai caused catastrophic damage in Mozambique, Zimbabwe and
Malawi leaving hundreds of eaple dead, hundreds more missing and thousands displaced.
Cyclone Idai caused severe damage in nine districts in the eastern part of Zimbabwe, Bikita, Buhera, Masvingo. Mutare. Mutasa, Makoni, Nyanga, Chipinge and Chimanimani with the most severely affected being Chipinge and Chimanimani.
More than 270 000 people were affected including many children. About 95 percent of the road networks in the affected areas were damaged according to government reports and other infrastructure such as schools, clinics, water points and agricultural schemes among others severely hit by the cyclone.
Much of the agricultural production has been destroyed (crops and livestock). Infrastructure in Manicaland and Masvingo were also damaged leaving many areas hardly accessible.”
Below is the full statement by the World Vision..
Cyclone Idai affected an estimated 270 000 people leaving over 200 000 women and children in dire need of social protection interventions.

By Rumbidzai Madhibha| Residents here have resolved to boycott buying ZESA tokens following increased load shedding by the power utility.
A 79 year old Kuwadzana woman Mbuya Retina Nyawo said it is pointless to waste her hard earned money on Zesa tokens anymore as her area has gone for more than three days now without electricity.
Speaking to ZimEye, Mbuya Nyawo from Kuwadzana 5 said:
“Zvichabatsirei mwanangu kutenga magetsi anodzoka pakati pehusiku? Ndiani anenge achiri akasvinura, meaning what is the use of purchasing Zesa tokens when the electricity is only available for a few hours in the middle of the night. Who among us will be awake at that hour in the dead of the night?”
Added another resident from Warren Park, Tryline Mujakachi:
“I do not have gas and i only have a few logs for firewood but we had bought electricity tokens enough to cover us for the whole month at our home. We are now helpless. We will never buy prepaid electricity again because it’s pointless.”
Shadreck Moyo from Glen View added:
“Imagine my situation where I dont have electricity but I already gave ZESA my money for this service through the prepaid system and they are sitting on it. It’s not new if I am going to hear that my $50 worth electricity has been converted to RTGs and its now equivalent to only $2 worth of energy. We are dealing with thieves and they will stop at nothing to steal from the poor while they award themselves hefty packages”.
Several citizens said they had lost hope with the situation in Zimbabwe since the poverty levels are worsening daily.
Mbare resident, 34 year old man, Baba J said:
“The situation is sad. I don’t know what crime we committed as Zimbabweans to deserve this. Life is expensive and ZESA woes are worsening our plight.”
Zimbabwe Coalition on Debt and Development executive director Janet Zhou has said while Western sanctions imposed on the country were negatively affecting the economy, it was trite to note that gross mismanagement of public funds by the Zanu PF government was largely to blame for the current economic mess.
Zhou said this at a Zimbabwe Council of Churches dialogue on the economy in Harare on Thursday. “I would also like to go beyond the mantra of sanctions being used for regime change and being the major cause of our economic problems,” she said, adding that mismanagement of funds and corruption, among other things, were responsible for the current economic mess.
“I believe that we have not done enough in terms of our own domestic resource mobilisation because Zimbabwe is endowed with many natural resources, but we have not done much because of mismanagement of funds,” she said.
Nelson Mupunga, the deputy director of the international economic research department at the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe, said failure to repay loans sourced from international monetary institutions also contributed to the economic collapse.
“Following the land reform, we have not been in a position to clear arrears to international monetary institutions. Because of the debt, we are also not in any position to access funds. Adding to that, Zimbabwe has also been falling neck-deep in the economic downfall due to low foreign investment as compared to other
African nations, and as a result, our economy has crumbled,” he said.

The ruling party Zanu-PF on Tuesday appointed Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans’ Association (ZNLWVA) secretary-general Cde Victor Matemadanda as secretary for the Commissariat.
He replaced Cde Engelbert Rugeje, who awaits redeployment. Prior, Cde Matemadanda was the secretary for War Veterans in the Politburo and is also the Deputy Minister of Defence and War Veterans Affairs. Our senior reporter Joseph Madzimure (JM) caught up with Cde Matemadanda (VM) to discuss his plans as the organising chief of the ruling party.
JM: Congratulations on your secondment to the position of Zanu-PF secretary for the Commissariat. How do you plan to execute your new role?
VM: To be a secretary for Commissariat is not an individual thing, but a collective effort, where everyone needs to be an actor. My predecessor Retired Lieutenant-General Engelbert Rugeje did exceptionally well during his tenure in office.
Actually, he is giving me advice on some issues which can take the party forward. He still has a role to play despite waiting for redeployment in the party. I need to ensure all departments understand their roles and how they link with each other. We also believe in democratic centralism of the party, where everyone is involved in party activities.
I will ensure that every Zanu-PF programme is people-centred. All people should be involved from cell level to the Central Committee level. The job of the commissariat is to coordinate all activities and there is no department in the party that is not a Commissariat Department because, for example the Department of Labour, it is labour according to Zanu- PF perspectives, and by doing that, it will be a way of doing the commissariat work. The most important thing will be to make all departments understand that they are not independent entities, but inter-twined components that create a collective whole. No department is superior than the other, but they should make equal contributions for a complete set, which is Zanu-PF.
JM: In any organisation, there is bound to be some indiscipline. How do you intend to deal with this?
VM: The New Dispensation has opened a democratic space in the party, but our job is to make sure we are not abusing that space. When we came from the war, it was not really what was known as guided democracy, but we had what we referred to as outré-democracy, where someone would go beyond the limits of democracy, by so doing creating indiscipline in the party.
Our membership should be put on equal footing as well as understanding of principles of the party so that people behave according to expectations. We also used to believe in what we used to refer as democratic centralism, where every stage of the party was supposed to be involved in every aspect of decision making, for example, the district would send recommendations to the district coordinating committee or to province and Central Committee, which is the representative board of the party at the congress.
When we attained our Independence in 1980, we brought the village development committee and ward development committee and when we are sitting in a Zanu- PF set up as village development committee, we are not at a political rally, but we are at a Zanu-PF-initiated meeting.
Every Zanu-PF programme should be a people’s programme and it must be people-centred. If Zanu-PF’s programmes are a people’s programmes, then the people should be involved through their living structures. The party have re-introduced the Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology to conscientise members on party ideology, the do’s and don’ts of the party. Members need to adhere to the dictates of the party. We are going to see Chitepo College becoming busier and busier with the impression that we are getting from people.
There is also the need to address the issues of corruption within and outside the party. We want to solve corruption. Everyone, be it in the Parliament or Government, we want things to be fair.
We must up the fight against corruption. Corruption should never be tolerated. If a leader is said to be corrupt, he/she should be given time to clean himself so that he will not be corrupt. There are means to find out if it is true or not that someone is corrupt. One should have a moral obligation that what I am doing is wrong and when they come to that realisation, they should be given time to clear themselves on issue of corruption so that they regain the people’s confidence. When we are defending a person, it must be systematic, it must not be like hypothesis, let it be proved factually that this person is not corrupt and that leader will be accepted.
JM: For several years now, the ruling party has been playing second fiddle in urban elections. What plans do you have to ensure that the ruling party reclaims urban seats in future elections?
VM: My main task is to engage with all racial and ethnic groupings, in fact all types of people. I will engage them. We are going to open up with caution because some people might think that it is time to infiltrate, but we want people to understand that Zanu-PF is a mass party and every person is welcome to join it and also participate in its programmes. I am not going to be an official commissar who will be driving around. I am going to be walking and engaging with vendors and kombi operators so that we discuss the problems they are facing and come up with solutions. I want to give everyone an opportunity to say what they want. My main focus is to have the people in all urban areas understand Zanu-PF so that they make an informed decision.
In Africa, Zimbabwean have the highest literacy rate, but most of our professionals were trained to be workers instead of entrepreneurs. That is why most of our educated professionals like doctors go on strike. They don’t want to think outside the box. These educated people want a revolutionary world, but in my opinion they need to be helped on how to get extra money.
How can we have a political leader who thinks that the solutions of solving problems in his country are in America and the opposition leaders need to understand that we have to be Zimbabweans and we have to understand our history?
JM: Can you shed light on why Zanu-PF primary elections are usually disputed, especially in major cities and how do you plan to tackle this challenge?
VM: The problem of primary elections, especially those for last year’s elections was that there was a lot of excitement because the New Dispensation under President Mnangagwa opened the democratic space where everyone wanted to be a councillor, Member of Parliament, Senator among others, so it was difficult to manage the situation. My predecessor did quite a lot of work since he was coming from an institution that thrives on discipline. When you are a commissar, you are not an independent institution, but a chair of the whole group and you need to ensure proper channels are followed. The primary elections rules and guidelines come from the party in line with its constitution, it’s not the duty of the Commissariat Department alone to ensure that they are followed
JM: How are you going to balance your new demanding role in the party and in Government where you are serving as the Deputy Minister of Defence and War Veterans Affairs?
VM: Being a commissar will not be a difficult task for me because once I have put systems in place, it will be smooth running. Government work is also routine.
It’s not like I am inventing a new wheel. A minister drives Government policy. With this information era, you cannot say I failed to take a decision. You need time to put systems in place in the Commissariat Department and most of the problems in the Central Business District, I will solve them through engaging with the vendors, kombi operators and other people.
JM: There are some reports of “G40 renegades” within the party who are believed to be taking instructions from their kingpins to destroy Zanu-PF from within. How are you going to handle the issue?
VM: As a party, we are not on a witch-hunting mission or expelling members from the party, but we should move in the same direction guided by the same constitution and party ideology.
We have one principal, President Mnangagwa, so if there are certain individuals who are taking instructions from some certain elements, then we can’t force them. We should be guided by the party’s constitution. Without mentioning names, I am not afraid of their masters or any of these people in terms of capacity and capability. I know for example Jonathan Moyo is just a perennial liar and Saviour Kasukuwere is an over-ambitious young man who is misguided. Zanu-PF usually monitors the activities of their former members whether they are repenting or not.
Those who still sympathise with G40 kingpins, we will give them time to repent. I personally do not have a problem with any one. I do not have a problem whether the person have been a member of Zanu-PF, another party, we accept everyone who wishes to join or re-join Zanu-PF. I am pleased that a lot of big names are saying they want to come back home, which is the Zanu- PF party.
JM: Are you at liberty to disclose some of the names of the so called bigwigs?
VM: Not now. We will definitely release the names at the right time. They want it to remain a secret until they are re-admitted into the party. Some are even from the opposition MDC party.
You know, most of those people in opposition political parties were once Zanu-PF card-carrying members.
JM: Can you shed more light on the restructuring exercise which is currently underway in all the country’s 10 provinces?
VM: The restructuring exercise is being done in line with the party’s constitution, which prescribes restructuring of provincial structures after every four years.
The party started with the two metropolitan provinces, which is Harare and Bulawayo; later on to all the other provinces. What happens in our party is that our constitution stipulates that every year, we restructure our cells and there will be elections.
After two years, there is branch restructuring and then after three years, we restructure our districts. In the fourth year, we will then restructure provinces and then the fifth year we have the Central Committee and then we go for a congress where we elect the party leadership.
My main goal is to ensure the party wins back some seats in Harare and Bulawayo. I want all urban centres to understand the value of the party and its intended goals, so that they make informed decisions come election time.
I know with the current situation; people might vote emotionally, especially in major cities, but Zanu-PF carries the umbilical cord of the country.
JM: How are you going to incorporate civil servants in party programmes, since some claim that they are apolitical?
VM: Our civil service is not as attached to our political decisions as we would want it to be. When a civil servant resists implementing a Government directive on the basis that he/she belongs to another political party, it will be seen as a harassment of workers, but it should be understood that every civil servant should be ready to implement Government programmes, which was formed by the ruling party. You can’t claim to be non-partisan when in actual fact you are working for the Government formed by the ruling party.
JM: There are some economic saboteurs who want people to revolt against the Government through price madness. How do you think the anomalies can be addressed?
VM: The issue of prices is double-edged sword because the people expect the Government to act through price controls, yet the Government is working tirelessly to address the anomalies.
We have a political party which thrives on the suffering of people and this is a challenge that we have, therefore, because Government is on an investment drive, we cannot be seen to be controlling prices, but our people are being hurt by the prices.
My proposal, which I am going to take to the authorities, is that we need to put systems in place, which will conscientise people that there is what is known as consumer power. We have one country and we should learn to respect our country and the institutions of Government.
We cannot behave like a lawless society where everyone can do whatever they want. The national anthem, Parliament, the President should be respected.

THE Nelson Chamisa-led MDC party yesterday dismissed threats by Zanu PF youths to counter their demonstrations, saying the ruling party had no mandate to stop their constitutional right to protest.
Zanu PF youths on Thursday threatened to block the opposition party’s planned protests over the rising cost of living. This came at a time the opposition has threatened to call for protests against President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration.
“These youths have got blood on their hands,” MDC spokesperson Jacob Mafume.
He alleged that there were some Zanu PF youths who took part in a clampdown against opposition members and ordinary citizens after the January demonstration,
but many of them were let free.
“It is constitutional to hold an anti-government demonstration anywhere in the world and it is dangerous to create a quasi-group of people who threaten to deal
with other people. It is dangerous for the State to keep quiet and not deal with those people,” Mafume said.
“The State must deal with those people thoroughly and stop them from making statements which are likely to inflame the situation. They have no right to police anyone or to stop anyone from doing a demonstration against the government.”
Mafume said if Zanu PF youths wanted to stand in solidarity with the government, then they could demonstrate in support of the government, but not to interfere
with their plans.
MDC youth leader Obey Sithole dared the Zanu PF youths, claiming they had no capacity to stop them.
“I have come across their claims, but let me categorically state that it is misplaced and misleading for one to think they can stop an idea whose time has
come. Zanu PF has no locus standi to stop a people’s demonstration, let alone speak about it,” he said.
“We are definitely unmoved by such threats. We will not betray the people of Zimbabwe; we shall continue pursuing our path to power until freedom comes.”
Meanwhile, Sithole was yesterday summoned by the Zimbabwe Republic Police’s Law and Order Section for interrogation after he recently gave Mnangagwa’s
government until month-end to resolve the ongoing socio-economic and political crises facing the country or face mass demonstrations.
“Our leader has been summoned by the ZRP. He will report at Harare Central Police Station today (yesterday) in company of his lawyers,” said MDC youth assembly
spokesperson Stephen “Sarkozy” Chuma. He was reportedly warned and released without charge.
Chuma said Sithole never broke any law in his address to journalists, where he issued the ultimatum.

MDC Masvingo Senator Tichinani Mavetera and former Zanu-PF Mwenezi East Member of Parliament (MP) Kudakwashe Bhasikiti were today humiliated after they received the least endorsement during the party’s chaotic provincial process to elect people who will be deployed to the national executive.
The two had hoped to use their somewhat rising profile in the party to get places but that was not to be as participants favoured their rivals. Former provincial spokesperson Dusty Zivave was also one of the high-profile losers.
Those who won are former MP Edmore Marima (Bikita East), former senator Misheck Marava (Masvingo), senior members Bernard Chiondengwa, Takanayi Mureyi and Margaret Chakabuda. In the women’s wing, Mai Mangava, Mai Gwamadondo, Mai Matenga and Mai Chibhebhe prevailed.
Nothing happened in the youth wing because elections to choose the new provincial youth leadership are yet to be held. Attempts by one of the factions to push through Masvingo Ward 4 councillor and new national youth organiser Godfrey Kurauone failed after they were vehemently resisted.
Voting was done not by secret ballot but through noise-making, with candidates that received the loudest cheers from the gathering when their names were called being declared winners.
This was after the accreditation of voters was aborted following serious fighting between rival camps to control the process.
After the violence and disagreements worsened, it was announced that the event had been cancelled and many members left, but vice president Lynette Karenyi-Kore, in consultation with the provincial executive, later allowed proceedings to continue.
The divisive accreditation exercise was, however, aborted and all those that had not gone back home were allowed to participate.

Treasury has approved the disbursement of $12 million to be shared between Zanu PF and the opposition MDC Alliance under the Political Parties Finance Act, but the two parties yesterday said the money was not enough for their needs.
In a Government Gazette published yesterday, Justice minister Ziyambi Ziyambi announced that Zanu PF, as the party with the majority in Parliament and 70% of the total votes cast in the 2018 elections, will pocket $8 million while Nelson Chamisa’s MDC Alliance is set to get $4 million, having garnered 29,97 % of the total votes cast.
“It is hereby notified in terms of the Political Parties and Finance Act that the total amount of money payable to political parties in respect of the year beginning January 1, 2019 and ending December 31, 2019 is $12 million,” the Government Gazette read in part.
Under the Political Parties Finance Act, political parties with more than 5% of the total votes cast can benefit from the fiscus and in this case, it is only Zanu PF and the MDC Alliance who are eligible to benefit.
In 2018, the two parties shared $6 million from the Political Parties Finance Act.
The Thokozani Khupe-led MDC-T and the National Patriotic Front, largely made up of former Zanu PF members, managed to secure a single parliamentary seat each and are ineligible to benefit from the fund.
Zanu PF spokesperson Simon Khaya Moyo said although the money was not enough, it nevertheless would help oil the ruling party’s programmes.
“Well, money will never be enough, but this is what Treasury has given us. We have to work with it. It is an allocation from Treasury and we have to look at
the priorities that we have as a party and then allocate the money accordingly,” Moyo said.
“If you are to look at our demands and requirements as a party, it is not enough. But we have to work within the allocation and we shall see how we advance the
growth of the party.”
Moyo said the party’s treasury department was better placed to know how to use the money.
“For us as Zanu PF, we would want to see the money being used wisely. This is taxpayers’ money and it must benefit the people. It must be used to advance the
cause of the people, not to be channelled towards negative agendas. We appeal that this money must not be abused in whatsoever manner. These are public funds.”
MDC secretary-general Charlton Hwende also said the money was inadequate to cover the opposition party’s programmes.
“Obviously, money cannot be enough. If you look at the inflation rate, the money is not enough. It has been eroded already,” Hwende said.
“Remember this money was passed in the last budget so it has lost its value. However, it will go a long way in assisting us in advancing our agenda as a party,
which is to grow the party and help our MPs to ensure they are visible. We shall add it to our subscription from members across the country.”
Five years ago, opposition leader Kisinoti Mukwazhi, of the Zimbabwe Development Party, approached the Constitutional Court, seeking an order to force
government to fund all political parties that were participating in national elections, but the matter was dismissed.
The Political Parties Finance Act was promulgated in 2002 to curb the foreign funding of local parties.

By Own Correspondent- Singer, songwriter and cinematographer Ray Ceeh, was shot dead in Lentegeur, Cape Town, on Wednesday night, Western Cape police said on Thursday.
“It is apparent that the victim was about to drop passengers in the area when three unknown men approached his vehicle and fired one shot to his neck and he totally lost the control of his vehicle,” said police spokesperson Siyabulela Malo.
The shooting is understood to have taken place at about 22:43 in Maartbloom Street, Lentegeur, which is in Mitchells Plain, east of the Cape Town CBD.
A murder investigation is under way and police are following up on all possible leads.
Hailing from Zimbabwe — and having changed his surname Chifamba to his stage name — Ceeh was in his early 30s.
Faizal Sayed, Deen Channel CEO, said in a statement that he was “shattered and shocked” after receiving the news of his former staffer’s murder.
“I have no words to explain what my staff and I are currently going through. I cannot imagine what is going through his mom’s mind right now. He was a character of love and fun,” said Sayed.
He described him as a determined and hard worker, who was the life of the office and who brought smiles to the faces of many.
Living ‘his dreams’ in music
“He always wanted to be someone in life, and his life was unfortunately cut short.”
He said it was a disgrace that Ceeh was killed in South Africa, after coming here to “live his dreams” in music. He had wanted to do a lot for his mother, and was currently working on a video which would have been his big break.
Durham Studios in Woodstock, where he was employed, and Deen Channel decided to produce a combined video of him in his honour, said Sayed.
Alongside his career in film, writing, directing and production, he also released his own music tracks.
Keep on Fighting was recorded in January this year according to Heart Entertainment Magazine (HEM).
“His vision is to speak through his music and impact change in the communities and society we live in,” HEM wrote.
Another tune, Call Me, was filmed alongside artists and curio sellers interspersed with views of Cape Town’s famous Lion’s Head and its oceans.
He also collaborated with artists such as Boi Sirius on Roll With Me, sang in Shona and collaborated on a short film called Night Night.-News24

By A Correspondent- IN a groundbreaking development, National University of Science Technology (Nust) in Bulawayo’s Applied Genetic Testing centre (AGTC) has come up with a testing tool that will help in fighting worrying cases of cattle rustling hitting the country.
The development came following the arrest of Linda Mafu (39), Nkosiyabo Nyoni (34) and Ndabezihle Dube (24) for allegedly stealing three beasts in Esigodini, Matabeleland South Province.
The trio was arrested at a house in Magwegwe North in Bulawayo while offloading the carcasses from a Toyota Hilux.
Their arrest followed a tip-off from an anonymous caller who informed ZRP Magwegwe that the trio was offloading meat from the said vehicle and at the house in question.
Police reportedly rushed to the scene and upon seeing the police details, the trio fled leaving behind the carcasses and the vehicle.
In a bid to find out if the carcasses were indeed from the cattle which were stolen from Esigodini, following initial reports by the owner of the beasts, Acting Bulawayo police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele said they had to engage the department of AGTC at Nust to do the DNA testing.
According to Nust’s AGTC representative Anita Dube during the tests they compared blood samples of a horn and valve which were left at the scene. They also compared the head and muscle tissues of the three carcasses recovered in Magwegwe North and blood stains from the vehicle which the carcasses were being offloaded from.
After testing the samples, Dube said DNA profiles matched.
“We found that DNA profiles from carcasses found in Magwegwe North and DNA profiles of the blood stains on the Toyota Hilux matched that of the three carcasses indicating that the car in question was the one which was also used to commit the crime.
“Also the DNA profiles from the horn and valve blood samples matched blood samples of the carcasses found in Magwegwe North,” said Dube.
Matabeleland South police spokesperson Chief Inspector Philisani Ndebele welcomed the development, describing it as a “first of its kind in the country”.
He said the development would be an effective tool in fighting rampant cattle rustling in the country.
“Cases of stock theft are on the rise in our province. However, the DNA testing method carried out by Nust’s AGTC is the first of its kind in the country which is a positive development that will help us in our investigations because scientific evidence is indisputable,” said Chief Insp Ndebele.
He said they would soon carry out raids to weed out unregistered meat dealers.
“If we find out that the meat dealer is selling uninspected meat, the dealer will be arrested,” he said.
Meanwhile, Chief Insp Ndebele urged farmers to always monitor their cattle and quickly make reports of any missing cattle.
“Farmers must not leave their cattle at the grazing land unattended and they must report any cases of missing cattle as soon as they discover that,” he said.
As of last year Matabeleland South province recorded 922 reports of stock theft.
The proximity of Matabeleland South province to Botswana and South Africa has also worsened the problem as syndicates are involved in cross-border stocktheft.-BMetro
By Talent Gondo- ENDING a relationship is painful but when someone suffocates your happiness, the best thing to do, according to a 65-year-old granny, who was left “gutted” by her 42-year-old lover when he cheated on her, is to “red-card” him no matter how good he is to you.
According to the heartbroken sugar mama, Maureen from Bulawayo’s Mpopoma suburb, cheating means being disrespectful especially by someone who was depending on her pension money for daily upkeep.
Maureen has described how she felt when she discovered that her Ben 10 Collen Mutunjwa also from Mpopoma was cheating on her with several women adding that she dumped him (Mutunjwa) after it came to her attention that he was only after her money.
As if that is not enough, Maureen said when she met Mutunjwa, three years ago, he also lied to her that he was not married.
She describes how she was desperately looking for love, at that time when she fell for Mutunjwa — believing they could spend the rest of their lives together.
“I started dating Collen in 2016 and we were happy. Things however, changed last month when I discovered that he was cheating on me with several women.
“I am a pensioner and he was using my pension money to spoil and woo those women. What also angered me is that he lied that he was not married. I dumped boyfriends of my own age to concentrate on him.
“During the subsistence of our relationship he was lying to me that he runs a chain of businesses in Masvingo, Zvishavane and Gweru. He is the type that wants a woman to look after him. Every time I asked to visit him at his place he would give me excuses such as that he should introduce me first to his family.
“He was telling me lies and I actually fell for it because he has such a sweet tongue. He was just using me,” fumed Maureen who apparently claims to know the hurt of heartbreak.
The scales were lifted off her eyes last month after Mutunjwa impregnated another woman from the same suburb.
She said she gave up her previous relationships with another lover when Mutunjwa promised her that he was going to treat her like a princess.
“When we met he was all lovey-dovey and he started telling me he loved me,” claims Moyo. Despite the age difference between them, Mutunjwa reportedly convinced her it would work.
“He said age was just a number and he kept drilling that into my head. He said to me as long as we love each other, that’s all that matters. He made me feel good despite the fact that he was younger than me,” said Maureen a mother of three, and granny.
Maureen claimed she had been spending a lot of money on him.
She added: “When I ended things he pleaded with me not to go. He ruined my life and dumping him is punishment for messing with my heart and it’s also a warning to other women who might fall victim to his lies.”
However, Mutunjwa refuted the allegations levelled against him and said his ex-lover made up stories after he told her he was going back to his family.
“Those allegations she has levelled against me are not true. She is just after tarnishing my image and it is one of those things that happen when a relationship gets sour. She is just bitter that things did not work out between us and that I decided to go back to my family,” said Mutunjwa.-BMetro
By Own Correspondent- FOUR Form Two boys from Sikhulile High School in Lobengula West suburb reportedly ran away from their respective homes telling friends and classmates that they were travelling to Filabusi to join illegal gold miners, commonly known as omakorokoza.
The fours boys, classmates at Sikhulile High School in class Form Two A6, disappeared from their homes last Thursday after under the guise of attending after-school sports activities in the afternoon.
All the youngsters live in Emakhandeni suburb.
One of the boys’ grandmother sent as SOS — a distress signal — to a church WhatsApp chat group seeking advice on how to search for her 14-year-old grandson — Somzi — after he didn’t return home from school.
After asking around from her grandson’s friends, she discovered that he had, in fact, run off with three other classmates.
“Linjani zihlobo, thina koMoyo silahlekelwe ngumzukulu uSomzi. Usuke ethi uyaku ku-cricketkodwa engayi khona. Ngivuke ngidinga kubangani bakhe kodwa kungathi babaleke beyi 4, abafana bonke balapha Emakhandeni. Amahungahunga athi bathi baya e-mine, singazi ukuthi yiphi leyo mine. (How are you relatives, we, the Moyo family, cannot find our grandson Somzi who left home saying he was going for cricket practice. When I could not find him in the morning, I discovered he had run off with his friends from Emakhandeni suburb. Rumours are that the boys have run off to a mine, although we have no idea which one), wrote the grandmother, Olipha Moyo.
Filabusi is a rich gold mining district with registered mining firms as well as thousands of illegal miners, omakorokoza.
Fierce wars over gold claims are a common occurrence in the area with rivals often losing limbs and killing each other over the mining rights of the precious yellow metal.
Church members advised her to alert the police.
A police report was made at Entumbane Police Station by the families of the runaway boys. However, on Wednesday morning — six days after the boys disappeared — Moyo told B-Metro that her grandson and another boy had returned.
The other teens are said to be holed up in Filabusi.
“He came back yesterday with just one of the boys that he left with but he won’t say much about their whereabouts for the last couple of days except to say that he will never do it again.
“The other two boys are said to be still at the so-called mine. I’m just glad my grandson is back at home, safe and sound, he doesn’t have any physical injuries. His parents live and work in South Africa,” she told B-Metro.
She said she was advised by church members not to be too heavy handed on the youngster lest he runs off again.
The boys had reportedly been skipping school before last week’s disappearance and school authorities were in the process of setting up a meeting with their families to get to the bottom of the matter before the school expelled the pupils for prolonged absenteeism.
