Can Chiwenga Be Charged With Treason?

Farai Dziva| Former Zanu PF youth leader Kudzai Chipanga wants Constantino Chiwenga to be charged with treason because of the remarks he made on the eve of the “military coup.”

Chipanga expressed the sentiments in his founding affidavit – which he filed alongside his application at the High Court- where he is seeking a review of the ruling by Harare magistrate Edwin Marecha dismissing a demand for further particulars, including a statement made by Chiwenga.

“For instance, the indictment alleged that I (Chipanga) gave a statement at a Press conference referring to an earlier statement by Commander, Defence Forces, Constantino Guvheya
Chiwenga. The statement by Chiwenga becomes self-evidently important to us. If for instance, the statement by Chiwenga was seditious, which it was, what Chiwenga then said was
criminal,” argued Chipanga.

“That aspect would then absolve me of any wrong doing. This is because contrary to what the State alleges. It is in fact Chiwenga who is the complainant in this case. He cannot benefit
from his own wrong-doing. The same argument goes to the rest of the requested particulars. Once provided, they absolve us.

The particulars then become necessary for our defences. The respondents (State and Marecha) must not be allowed to dictate how we conduct our defences or to decide for us which
information is necessary for our defences.”

Mutsvangwa Confronts Tongaat Over Sugar Price

Farai Dziva|Information Minister Monica Mutsvangwa has accused giant sugar supplier Tongaat Hulett of economic sabotage.

Mutsvangwa accused the company of pegging unjustified price increases after the price of sugar doubled last week.

Addressing Zanu-PF Manicaland’s Provincial Coordinating Committee meeting on Monday Mutsvangwa said:

“These are acts of sabotage and we will not accept that.We will not hesitate to take appropriate action against such saboteurs.”

Gvt Minister Blames MDC For Price Hikes

Farai Dziva|Information Minister Monica Mutsvangwa stunned all and sundry when she blamed the opposition MDC for initiating price hikes to sabotage government operations.

Mutsvangwa made the remarks at a Zanu PF meeting in Manicaland.

” We are fully aware of acts of economic sabotage that are going on which however do not come as a surprise because some elements in the political arena openly declared that they would spoil the broth.

We are wondering what is really happening in the country that justifies a 100 percent increase in prices of basics within a week. It is clear sabotage.

What is Tongaat Hulett importing in its production of sugar that justifies the current prices?

What currency are they using in paying their workers that warrants these increases?

We will soon see the introduction of people’s shops in all corners of the countries from cities, towns to villages. Silo products will be sold at affordable prices in these shops.

As Government, we have already set aside $70 million to fund the provision of people’s shops and more funds are already being sourced to ensure that we compete at the same level with these unscrupulous elements in business,” said Mutsvangwa.

Police in Mudzi, Mashonaland East Province, are looking for the man who axed the four villagers after allegedly breaking into their homes and demanding money.

The 4 villagers were hospitalised after the suspect, Simbarashe Chinyamwaka (25) axed them.

“The suspect was not located and is believed to have crossed over to neighbouring Mozambique. Police are appealing to anyone with any information on his whereabouts to report to any nearest police station,” police said.

Byo Businessman Hauled To Court Over Botched Land Deal

By A Correspondent- A Bulawayo businessman yesterday appeared in court on allegations of defrauding an unsuspecting land seeker of US$1,4 million in a botched property deal.

Ismail Moosa Lunat (age not supplied) allegedly sold a property that he had already sold to someone else some three years back.

He was not asked to plead to the fraud charge when he was hauled before Harare magistrate Mrs Rumbidzai Mugwagwa.

Due to the gravity of the offence, Lunat was advised to seek bail at the High Court.

It is alleged that sometime in August 2018, Lunat phoned Mr Mahomed Zakanya Patel, who is a managing director of Toppers Uniform, advising that he was selling a stand in Bulawayo for US$1,5 million.

The court heard that Mr Patel, who was in Harare at that time, travelled to Bulawayo to view the property.

He showed interest in purchasing the property before the parties signed an agreement of sale on September 4, last year.

After negotiations, the purchase price was reduced to US$1,4 million.

According to the documents signed, Lunat stated that he was selling the property on behalf of one of his companies called Converging Investments (Pvt) Limited.

It is alleged that Lunat showed Mr Patel an original copy of the title deeds and form CR14 before the agreement was signed.

Upon signing the agreement, Mr Patel made a down payment of US$1 million in cash.

Lunat allegedly advised Mr Patel to settle the balance of US$400 000 on or before December 15, 2018.

It is the prosecution’s case that Mr Patel paid the balance on December 14, 2018 before being given the original copy of the title deeds to the property.

A follow up with the Registrar of Deeds revealed that the property was in fact registered in the name of Timothy Mafuka Nkomo.

Investigations revealed that Nkomo had purchased the said property from Lunat in 2015, hence he became the legitimate owner of the property.-StateMedia

ED Ditches Chiwenga’s Croonies?

By A Correspondent- A local daily has reported that the new Politburo appointments that were made by president Emmerson Mnangagwa were meant to elevate his allies at the expense of those of vice president Constantino Chiwenga.

The new appointees are as follows:

  • Victor Matemadanda – Secretary for the Commissariat
  • Douglas Mahiya – Secretary for War Veterans
  • Headman Moyo – Deputy secretary of War Veterans
  • Zenzo Ncube – Deputy Director for War Veterans Affairs
  • Patrick Chinamasa – Air Zimbabwe board chairman

The “trusted lieutenant” Victor Matemadanda was replacing Engelbert Rugeje. The Dailly News further describes the changes as surprising and Mnangagwa’s elaborate plan to dilute the military’s influence in the ruling party and government.

However, Zanu PF secretary for administration Obert Mpofu said there was nothing sinister about Rugeje’s “re-assignment”.

He said:

“The changes are meant to strengthen the party.”

Rugeje is one of those believed to be topping the list of Chiwenga allies who have been removed from positions of influence and reassigned elsewhere. In February this year, Mnangagwa retired four senior army commanders including Major-general Anselem Nhamo Sangatwe whose section is believed to have conducted the August 1, 2018 shootings.

The retired officials have been reassigned to new portfolios completely detached from military operations to diplomatic service.

Since coming to power in 2017 and particularly after surviving a bomb attack at a rally in Bulawayo during the run-up to the July 2018 elections, Mnangagwa has made wholesale changes to the police, retiring top cops formerly linked to Mugabe.

Police Nab Four For Beating To Death An Unidentified Man Over A S_ex Worker

By Talent Gondo- Police in Hwange has arrested four people, two of them twin brothers, for allegedly fatally assaulting an unidentified man at a brothel in Hwange.

Matabeleland North police spokesperson Chief Inspector Siphiwe Makonese was not reachable on her mobile phone to confirm the incident which happened on Saturday.

The murder took place at a house used as a brothel by commercial s.e.x workers in Raylton. A police source said the suspects were in police cells assisting with investigations.

The source said while a report made to the police alleged that the now deceased was suspected to be a thief, those closer to the goings on had said he had visited one of the hookers but found another man in the room leading to a fight.

Other occupants of the house allegedly joined in to assault the deceased. According to the source, the now deceased begged to be taken to hospital after the assault but his attackers dragged him out of the yard and dumped his body at a nearby dumpsite.

“On June 7, a woman was awakened by noise of the now deceased who was screaming for help outside her yard. She went to check and found Ashford holding the now deceased by the hand questioning him about what he was doing in the yard,” said the source. The suspects allegedly started assaulting him before letting him go.

The now deceased allegedly returned to the yard at around 3AM begging the four attackers to take him to hospital as he was in deep pain. It is alleged that the suspects further assaulted him until he became unconscious. Ashford dragged and dumped him at a dumpsite.

The man’s body was discovered by passers-by in the morning and a report was made to the police leading to the arrest of the quartet. The deceased body was taken to Hwange Colliery Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem.

“We Stand Behind Our President”: Zanu Pf Youth Declare

By Talent Gondo- ZANU PF youths in Mashonaland East have resolved to fully throw their weight behind “embattled” President Emmerson Mnangagwa as they seek to shield him from criticism over the deepening economic crisis.

The youths held a rally recently in Seke constituency where the league boss Kelvin Mutsvairo blamed “saboteurs” for the economic problems.

He said:

As the youths, we are behind President Mnangagwa and we are aware of all the machinations by saboteurs who are currently behind the price hikes of basic commodities.

From the interactions we have had with the youths, we are happy that they are now aware of all government efforts to deal with the current crisis.

We have embarked on a tour of each constituency, meeting the youths, identifying projects suitable for their areas for their benefit as we move on.

Provincial chairperson, Joel Biggie Matiza, who also spoke at the rally said that Mnangagwa will soon descend heavily on the economic saboteurs and promised the crowd that things will get back to normal.

Police, Motorists In Move Style Chase Against Robbers

By A Correspondent- Police in Bulawayo was last week involved in a movie-style high-speed chase with robbers who had broken into a parked car and snatched a purse.

Reports indicate that when the break-in occurred, several motorists (using three cars, a BMW, a white Honda Fit and grey VW Golf GTI) joined the chase and cornered the robbers who then abandoned the ‘getaway’ unregistered Honda Fit and fled in another car.

Bulawayo acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed to Newsday on Monday that he had received a report on the incident.

He said:

A lady had parked a vehicle. On return, she saw a person standing next to her car and was holding a purse which she identified as hers.

She screamed, drawing the attention of the public. The person got into a red Honda Fit which had no number plates.

The victim of the robbery, Thobekile Sithole had parked her Toyota Hilux and entered a shop.

She said:

While I was in the shop, one of the criminals broke into my car and when I came out of the shop after 10 minutes, I saw the car door open and he was still inside searching.

I had left my car locked using the central locking system, which they managed to bypass.

When I saw him, I shouted and the man came out of the car carrying my purse, which contained my driver’s licence, bank cards, US$20 and ZWL$15.

The woman’s screams alerted the robbers who sped off in the getaway car which they abandoned in Makokoba suburb.

The robbers then jumped into a Honda Fit which they later abandoned in Mzilikazi.

The police finally arrested a suspicious-looking man in Mzilikazi who was said to be helping police with investigations over the robbery.

Churches Warn Of Impending Anarchy

By Own Correspondent- CHURCHES and the civic society say Zimbabwe risks falling into anarchy if the leaders of major political parties fail to dialogue and address pressing issues without resorting to violence.

The Civil Society and Church Joint Forum (CSCJF) issued the warning while addressing journalists in Mutare recently, noting that the economic situation was becoming untenable.

CSCJF national co-ordinator Abigail Mupambi said if politicians fail to sober up, the country could soon become ungovernable and take the route of Sudan, which is now under military lock-down after popular uprising toppled former leader Omar al-Bashir two months ago.

She called for genuine dialogue, saying demonstrations should be the last resort for political parties and civic organisations.

“Demonstrations have not given us any result because people end up being killed during peaceful protests,” Mupambi said.

“Go and ask Sudan, the country is now ungovernable. It is no longer a country. If our politicians don’t sober up, then Zimbabwe will follow the same path.”

The warning comes at a time government is facing the possibility of a fresh round of protests over the deteriorating economic situation in the country.

Earlier protests in January over a 150% fuel price hike saw security agents kill 17 protesters according to human rights groups, while hundreds sustained gunshots wounds.

According to a report by our sister publication, The Standard, health workers including doctors and nurses plan to go on strike in two weeks, saying they have had enough of government’s austerity measures that have left them living in penury.

The opposition MDC has also warned that it plans street protests to force the Mnangagwa administration to the negotiating table.

Government has since beefed up police and military presence in suburbs and on highways across the country.

Our sister paper, the Zimbabwe Independent, reported last Friday that the police have purchased an assortment of weapons that include more than 4 000 AK-47 assault rifles in preparation for possible protests.

But the churches and civic organisations insist that only dialogue could serve the country from taking a turn for the worst, saying demonstrations have failed to resolve the political and economic crisis in Zimbabwe.

“We are here to call for peace. All the people in the country need to be responsible. We don’t need to repeat the same formula of conducting demonstrations.”

President Emmerson Mnangagwa last month launched a dialogue process with losing fringe presidential candidates in last year’s elections which observers say was pointless without the Nelson Chamisa-led MDC party.

The Zimbabwe Council of Churches has tried to bring the two parties together for talks, but says political gamesmanship and inflated egos have stood in the way.

MDC last week accused Mnangagwa of trying to bring a state of emergency through the back door.

A pastor, Edmore Nyatoti, urged political players, particularly the MDC and Zanu PF, to set aside their egos.

“For Zimbabweans, we are Christians and let’s get united. Let’s show the world that we are capable of building our country. We need to think about one another. Zanu PF and the MDC should shun their egos,” he said

“There should be no more bloodshed in the country. We no longer need bloodshed in our country if we are to move away from the poverty we are facing.“-Newsday

FULL TEXT: Concern over Deteriorating Human Rights Situation in Zimbabwe

Restoration of Human Rights Zimbabwe wishes to express concern over the deteriorating human rights situation in the country which stands in sharp contrast to the government’s new dispensation mantra. What is particularly worrying to us as ROHR Zimbabwe is that Zimbabweans in their generality came out to celebrate the fall of former President Robert Mugabe whose 37 years in power was marked by wanton disregard of people’s freedoms and rights.

This not so new dispensation has continued to read from Mugabe’s script against its loud reformist claims.

Under President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s rule, Zimbabwe has slowly receded to the old dispensation with state security agents arresting, detaining and assaulting civil society activists.

Just early this year, over one hundred people were bundled up in residential suburbs of Harare, Bulawayo and other smaller towns, assaulted and detained in connection with the violence January 14 shutdown.

Leaders of the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Union (ZCTU) who had called for the stay away were arrested and charged with treason for organising a stay away.

To this day, the state continues to hunt down those linked to the January 14 national shutdown despite clear evidence of the violence and destruction being an inside job within the ruling party.

In May, seven civil society leaders were arrested upon arrival at the Robert Mugabe International Airport from Maldives where they had gone to attend a workshop. They have since been charged with plotting to subvert a constitutional government.

Last week, the country woke up to the news that Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) President Obert Masaraure had been abducted and dumped after being assaulted by suspected state security agents.

While Zimbabwe attempts to embark on international re-engagement, the human rights situation speaks of a country not ready to move away from its past.

ROHR Chairperson, Ephraim Tapa condemned the government saying the deteriorating human rights situation comes against a backdrop of high hopes and optimism created by the advent of the second Republic and President ED’s pronouncements.

“If anything, it would appear things have changed for the worse compared to Mugabe’s Zimbabwe,” said Tapa.

He called on President Mnangagwa to walk the talk and allow a culture of human rights and political tolerance to grow.

Parents Cry Fowl Over Boarding Fees Top Up

By Own Correspondent- Some parents in Bulawayo expressed dismay over the decision by some boarding schools to demand top-up fees in the middle of the second time.

Parents who spoke to the state media said that they understand schools are operating in an inhospitable environment but at the same time it is hard for them to raise the required amounts.

Mrs Rosemary Mhlanga from Pumula told the publication that she was struggling to clear arrears, let alone pay the top ups. She said:

It’s not easy because some of us are still struggling to clear the fees and we have other children back home who need to be fed and go to school.

Another Bulawayo resident Mr Edwin Ndebele from North End revealed that parents are now being driven into debt.

He said:

This situation is forcing us into debt and it’s not healthy at all. Education is a basic human right and as parents, we can’t deny our children access to school but the situation has become unbearable. I hope the Government finds a solution soon.

However, an official at one of the schools demanding top-up fees told the Chronicle that at the start of the term, the ZWL$1 200 parents were asked to pay was considered adequate.

But now since the situation in the country has reached another level, parents have been asked to pat ZWL$300 as top-up fees.-

Rusape Granny Up For Murder After Striking Fellow Villager With An Axe

AN outraged Rusape granny struck a fellow villager with an axe after he accused her of witchcraft.

Manicaland police spokesperson inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa confirmed the incident yesterday.

According to Kakohwa, on June 6 around 4pm, Claris Bakare (66), who is being charged with attempted murder, was at her homestead in Musariri village under Chief Tandi.

The complainant in the matter, Edward Mutambira, who is from the same village, was on his way to see his brother, lan Musendo, and passed through Bakare’s homestead.

Mutambira reportedly shouted at Bakare claiming that she was a witch, accusing her of killing his son sometime in the past.

They started to exchange harsh words and Bakare, out of anger, went into her hut and took an axe, which she used to strike the complainant once on the head.

Bakare’s neighbour, Jesi Mugoneri, went to the scene and found the complainant bleeding profusely.

Mugoneri notified the complainant’s wife, Nyaradzo Maramba, who then took Mutambira to Rusape General Hospital before reporting the matter to local police, leading to Bakare’s arrest.

Zanu Pf Youths Pledge Support For Mnangagwa Despite Deepening Economic Crisis

Wadyajena Unimpressed By ED Saving Coffee Farmer Story

Gokwe-Nembudziya legislator, Justice Mayor Wadyajena who chairs the parliamentary portfolio committee on lands and agriculture seems unimpressed by the story carried in the state owned Herald which hailed how the government saved a coffee farmer from losing his estate, saying his committee will today host the permanent secretary in the ministry of agriculture to clarify land invasions and disputes.

Wadyajena said no farmer would require saving if rule of law and property rights are respected.

” Lands & Agric Perm Sec appears today to clarify land invasions & disputes. No farmer would ever require ‘saving’ by GVT if we simply made the rule of law & respect for property rights supreme! Cronyism is dangerous, not everyone is a farmer & invaders must be severely punished!,” said Wadyajena.

MDC National Council Seats Brew Conflict In Midlands

Divisions have rocked the MDC Midlands provincial executive over the imposition of members to represent the region in the party’s highest decision-making body, the national executive council.

Members of the provincial executive and structures from across the districts convened at the party’s office in Gweru over the weekend to elect five members to be seconded to the national council.

MDC women’s assembly chairperson, Paurina Mpariwa, oversaw the process.

Instead of holding the planned elections, provincial chairperson Josiah Makombe reportedly pulled a shocker by calling out preconceived names of five party members and asking someone to second them, after which he declared the process duly concluded.

The five were Gweru Urban MP Brian Dube, proportional representation MP Emma Muzondiwa, immediate past MDC Midlands South chairperson Francisco Masendeke, Beatina Majoni and Cephas Zimuti.

This did not go down well with party members because there were more than five members who had expressed interest in contesting for the national executive posts. These included Redcliff mayor Clayton Masiyatsva, Mberengwa senior party official Luwelin Sibanda, Mbizo MP Settlement Chikwinya, MDC chief of staff Sessel Zvidzai, former Senator and Health minister Henry Madzorera and former Kwekwe central legislator Blessing Chebundo.

Sources close to the developments told Southern Eye that these party officials had campaigned for the posts only to have Makombe, the current mayor of Gweru, pull the rug from under
their feet.

“What happened was totally unfair and undemocratic. We went there for elections, only for names to be imposed on us. It’s a sad chapter for the MDC,” a source said.

Takavafira Zhou, MDC Midlands provincial spokesperson, confirmed the disgruntlement at grassroots level over the selection of national executive representatives, but said the dispute would be resolved amicably.

“There were challenges over names that were left out in spite of submitting applications (to contest the posts). These concerns were brought to the attention of the presiding officers,
who in turn will make a ruling in the best interest of nurturing and protecting our democratic ethos so that our collective responsibility would add value to the party,” he said.

“It is not known where the list of the five people came from, and it was only fair for the elections to be held so that the popular members of the party would be chosen. People in the
party are angry,” another official said.

In a related development, the MDC Bulawayo provincial executive yesterday accused some non-delegates to the provincial council of trying to derail the election of members into the national executive council.

The remarks were made by the party’s provincial spokesperson, Swithern Chirowodza, during the election process.

He, however, dismissed reports that there was violence during the election, remarking the security personnel had screened delegates on entry, with those ineligible blocked from entering
the venue in accordance with the party’s constitution.

“The process was completed peacefully. What happened was that the security helped a lot in separating the delegates from the non-delegates.

“That was in compliance with the party’s constitution, article 6.9.3.2, which specifies who is a member of the provincial council,” Chirowodza said.

“There were some strangers in the provincial council, who wanted to be part of the process when they are not delegates so that when voting is done in their presence, they would start complaining that the process was flawed and claim that non-delegates were allowed to vote.”

The party’s constitution stipulates that the provincial council should consist of all members of the provincial executive, chairpersons, secretaries, treasurers, organising and information secretaries of district executive committees, district chairpersons of the women and youth assembles, all ward chairpersons, the executive committee of the women and youths
assemblies.

Chirowodza said Kunashe Muchemwa, Grace Mathe, Bulawayo Central legislator Nicola Watson, Senator Gideon Shoko and Desmond Makaza would represent the province in the national executive council.

“The process went on well and the elections were done. We are waiting for the names to be confirmed, otherwise everything is above board,” he said.

Chirowodza said those who wanted to disrupt the meeting started singing obscenities about the provincial chairperson, James Sithole and the recently-elected provincial executive.

NPRC Is Looking For Gukurahundi Papers’ Editor

The National Peace and Reconciliation Commission (NPRC) has flighted a job advertisement looking for an Editor to work on Gukurahundi papers.

This marks a departure from the former President Robert Mugabe era where Gukurahundi was a closed subject.

While the move will likely bring out literature on the subject, it remains to be seen if the commission will not be censored to deal with less important issues while ignoring the major actors in the whole saga.

MDC Members Humiliate Bhasikiti In Provincial Elections

Kudakwashe Bhasikiti At An MDC Alliance coalition rally

MDC Masvingo Senator Tichinani Mavetera and former Zanu PF Mwenezi East Member of Parliament (MP) Kudakwashe Bhasikiti were humiliated after they received the least endorsement during the party’s chaotic provincial process to elect people who will be deployed to the national executive.

The two had hoped to use their somewhat rising profile in the party to get places but that was not to be as participants favoured their rivals. Former provincial spokesperson Dusty Zivave was also one of the high-profile losers.

Those who won are former MP Edmore Marima (Bikita East), former senator Misheck Marava (Masvingo), senior members Bernard Chiondengwa, Takanayi Mureyi and Margaret Chakabuda.

In the women’s wing, Mai Mangava, Mai Gwamadondo, Mai Matenga and Mai Chibhebhe prevailed.

Nothing happened in the youth wing because elections to choose the new provincial youth leadership are yet to be held. Attempts by one of the factions to push through Masvingo Ward 4 councillor and new national youth organiser Godfrey Kurauone failed after they were vehemently resisted.

Voting was done not by secret ballot but through noise-making, with candidates that received the loudest cheers from the gathering when their names were called being declared winners.

This was after the accreditation of voters was aborted following serious fighting between rival camps to control the process.

After the violence and disagreements worsened, it was announced that the event had been cancelled and many members left, but vice president Lynette Karenyi-Kore, in consultation with the provincial executive, later allowed proceedings to continue.

The divisive accreditation exercise was, however, aborted and all those that had not gone back home were allowed to participate.

“This was not a legitimate process. Many people did not vote because they had gone back home after it was announced that the elections had been cancelled due to violence. After all, how can noise-making replace secret ballot in a democratic process?” said one party member.

Who Was The Bogeyman Who Kept Sneaking Into Vimbai Tsvangirai’s ICU Room And What Was His Intention?

The late Vimbai Tsvangirai

Own Correspondent|Zimbabweans on social media have started raising concerns on the unexpected death of MDC legislator Vimbai Tsvangirai.

Tsvangirai was involved in a fatal road accident just outside Kwekwe a month ago and had been hospitalised at a Harare hospital since then.

Reports were released from the hospital that she was recovering well and was safely out of danger. Her condition suddenly deteriorated on Monday morning resulting in her passing on later in the afternoon.

Elizabeth Macheka and family members

Concerns have since emerged on what could have caused the sudden turnaround on her conditions.

Major concerns have been raised over an unidentified man who was several times caught trying to sneak into the intensive care unit where Tsvangrai-Java was being treated.

According to media reports at the time when Tsvangirai was hospitalised, her family reported that the bogeyman kept giving different reasons why he wanted to see the MP after first claiming that he was her relative, then party member and a well-wisher who wanted to pray for her.

The identity of the man was never been known nor what his real intentions were.

ZESA Prolonged Load Shedding, 88 Year Old Grand Pa Burnt To Death After Forgetting To Put Out A Candle

Ms Anna Sigadula narrates what happened on the fateful night when a house was gutted by fire in Mabutweni suburb, Bulawayo

AN 88-YEAR-OLD grandpa died in Bulawayo’s mabutweni suburb after his house was gutted by fire from a candle he was using following prolonged Zesa load shedding on Friday night.

Mkhululi Ncube, who lived alone, was pronounced dead at Mpilo Central Hospital where he had been rushed for medical treatment after the incident that occurred at about 11PM.

The tragedy comes at a time when the country is enduring a load shedding exercise going above the scheduled 10 hours in most instances.

A state media news crew yesterday visited Ncube’s residence where just a few mourners were gathered without proper plans to bury him.

Ncube’s neighbour Ms Anna Sigadula said neighbours had to break through a door to gain entry into his house in an effort to rescue him.

“We were awakened by smoke that was coming from his room. We called other neighbours and rushed to rescue him as we knew that he was sick. However the door was locked so we had to smash it open. He had suffered serious burns. We managed to put out the fire. It seems he could not escape the inferno as he was sickly. We called an ambulance which ferried him to Mpilo Central Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival,” said Ms Sigadula.

She said the sad thing is that Ncube had no one to look after him at his advanced age.

Ms Sigadula said power cuts were becoming a thorn in the flesh for most residents and it was disheartening that Ncube lost his life as a result of a fire that emanated from a candle.

“It seems he fell asleep without putting out the candle. All this occurred following electricity load shedding imposed on us by Zesa,” said Ms Sigadula.

For a moment the news crew thought that Ncube had been buried as the few women who were at the house were cleaning the room.

Ncube’s relative Ms Thama Ncube, who arrived at the house after his death said the situation was desperate as they do not have funds to bury him.

“We don’t even know where to start. We don’t have money so we can’t say when he would be buried. We are just hoping that the residents could assist us in burying him. Those wishing to assist us can contact me or send money on my Ecocash number 0784407637,” said Ms Ncube, herself an old woman.

Bulawayo acting police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube said no foul play was suspected in Ncube’s death.

“We received a case of sudden death where an 88-year-old male died after he was severely burnt and succumbed to injuries after his room caught fire following Zesa load shedding on Friday at about 11pm. He was pronounced dead at Mpilo Central Hospital where he had been ferried for medical treatment,” said Insp Ncube.

He appealed to residents to exercise caution in dealing with lit candles during load shedding periods as more lives could be lost.

Govt Says That It Is Solving The Passport Crisis, But It’s The Same Statement For A Year.

Cain Mathema

Government has assured the nation that the production and processing of passports is set to increase following the availability of machinery and printing paper.

This comes after members of the public have been complaining that the Registrar-General’s Office was taking time to process passports.

Sources at the Registrar-General’s Office revealed yesterday that they were printing only 30 passports a day.

Additionally, emergency passports are no longer being processed as promptly, as required by procedure.

In an interview, Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister, Cain Mathema admitted to the dire situation, but said the issue was being resolved by Government.

“Members of the public should not panic. We are working on it. Yes we have been facing some challenges, but I would want to assure passport applicants that we have managed to overcome some of these challenges.

“Passports are being done, the paper is now there and the machinery is there. Our people should not panic, we might not be able to produce the numbers that we want at the moment, but we are working on it,” he said.

In April this year, the Registrar-General’s Office co-operated fully with the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission in its inquiries into allegations of delays in the issuance of passports and national identification documents.

The investigations come after members of the public complained that the department was taking time to process passports and identity documents.

In an interview then, Registrar-General Mr Clemence Masango said he was aware of the inquiries that were being conducted and assured the people that their offices were ready to serve.

The Registrar-General Office said it was also concerned with the high number of uncollected passports some of which were processed in 2000 and cost the applicants more than $590 000.

Drug supply set to improve: Natpharm
Some of the passports were applied for as urgent and got priority over non-urgent applications despite the department’s limited resources.

Addressing a Press conference early this year Mr Masango said some of the passports had expired before being collected.

Zimbabwean passports are valid for only 10 years.

The number of uncollected passports applied on normal basis are 50 733 and least 11 144 passports have since expired.

Mnangagwa Mourns Tsvangirai Java

Vimbai Tsvangirai

State Media|President Mnangagwa has mourned the death of Vimbai Tsvangirai-Java (36), daughter to the late MDC-T leader Mr Morgan Tsvangirai, from injuries she sustained in a head-on collision near Truckers Inn in Kwekwe last month.

Tsvangirai-Java was Glen View South legislator and had been recently elected secretary-general of the MDC-A’s Women’s Assembly.

In a message on his Twitter handle, President Mnangagwa said he was saddened by Mrs Tsvangirai-Java’s death.

“Very sad to learn of the tragic passing of Honourable Vimbai Tsvangirai-Java. May her memory be a blessing and a comfort to all that knew her, and may she rest in eternal peace.”

The President has had warm relations with the Tsvangirai family since becoming leader of the Second Republic in 2017, as he assisted the family during the illness and passing on of the former trade unionist.

Yesterday, Tsvangirai family spokesperson and uncle to the deceased, Mr Manasseh Tsvangirai, said in an interview with Zimpapers Television Network that they received news of her worsening condition early yesterday morning.

“She was recovering steadily, as someone who was coming out of that wreck, you could see that it was actually tragic,” he said.

“Then from there it was actually early this morning and mukuwasha (Batsirai Java) said please pray for Mai Java because things were not normal and we were just praying not knowing that around 2pm she was going to die . . . She died around that time and we were alerted to rush to the hospital with the husband, the sisters and other relatives of the Javas.

“Currently, we don’t have anything yet, but people are gathered in Strathaven at No. 2 Lyndhurst Close.”

He also urged people to respect the Tsvangirai and Java families in their time of mourning by desisting from posting unsubstantiated messages on social media platforms

Her political party, MDC-Alliance, also expressed shock at her passing.

“The MDC has learned with shock the sad passing on of Hon Vimbai Tsvangirai–Java this afternoon. The eldest daughter of our late icon Dr Morgan Tsvangirai, Hon Java was the recently elected Women’s Assembly secretary-general and a Member of Parliament for Glen View South.

“She recently sustained injuries in an accident which claimed two other cadres while traveling from a Provincial Caucus in Bulawayo. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family. May Her Soul Rest in Peace.”

The accident also claimed the lives of Paul Rukanda, who was Mrs Tsvangirai-Java’s campaign manager, and a relative, Tafadzwa Mhundwa.

Schools Are Demanding Top Up Fees As A Result Of Poor Planning -Government

SOME boarding schools are demanding top up fees for this term as they seek to cushion themselves against escalating prices of goods and services.

The schools say they were left with no other option after prices of basic commodities increased beyond what they had budgeted.

The development comes at a time when parents are struggling to pay fees with some schools resorting to payment plans.

Some parents were forced to withdraw their children from boarding schools as it became impossible for them to pay the exorbitant fees and buy uniforms, whose cost is also beyond the reach of many.

Primary and Secondary Education Deputy Minister Edgar Moyo, however, said schools were not allowed to charge top up fees unless they have been given the green light by the Ministry.

He said the reason why schools were running out of food was due to poor planning.

“Schools have not been given the leeway to increase fees without approval from the Government. If a school’s proposal to increase fees or charge top up has not been approved then the fees structure remains the same.

“When the proposal comes from the school, it has to be a joint proposal by the school authorities and the parents. These top ups being demanded by schools are a sign of poor planning. Schools must plan ahead to avoid burdening parents,” said Deputy Minister Moyo.

It is of no use, to remove Robert Mugabe and not deMugabenize

By Stanley Goreraza|It is of no use, to remove Robert Mugabe and not deMugabenize. As long as deMugabenization is not completed, Robert Mugabe will still rule and as long as he still rules then Zimbabawe will go nowhere with its economy in a breakdown and its citizens stuck.

First to be deMugabenized must be Zanupf . But what will it help the country if Zanupf deMugabenizes when the opposition led by Nelson Chamisa has and is still Mugabenizing, filling its ranks and allying with Mugabetics, most of whom have criminal records and bloody histories? What would have been the use of fighting Mugabe all those years, only to Mugabenize later? And what change do you hope to bring to Zimbabwe by Mugabenizing when Mugabenization was the very reason you embarked on the journey for change all those years ago?

Whomever entertains the hope of turning around the economy of Zimbabwe without deMugabenizing is a hopeless fool. Mugabeisim is the very reason Zimbabwe is what it is today and by embracing and politically allying yourself with the man and his lot you cannot speak of changing Zimbabwe. You will only return us back to the years of diabolic tyranny. President Mnangagwa must also understand that without a complete dispensation from Mugabeism there will be no new dispensation, especially on the economic side.

Grandpa Burnt To Death In “Candle Fire” Due To Prolonged Load Shedding

NATIONAL, BUSINESS, BREAKING

AN 88-YEAR-OLD grandpa died in Bulawayo’s Mabutweni Suburb after his house was gutted by fire from a candle he was using following prolonged Zesa load shedding on Friday night.

Mkhululi Ncube, who lived alone, was pronounced dead at Mpilo Central Hospital where he had been rushed for medical treatment after the incident that occurred at about 11PM.

The tragedy comes at a time when the country is enduring a load shedding exercise going above the scheduled 10 hours in most instances.
A Chronicle news crew yesterday visited Ncube’s residence where just a few mourners were gathered without proper plans to bury him.

RBZ While Allowing Foreign Criminal Who Destroyed Kenya’s Economy To Smuggle Fake Gold, Refuses To Liberalise Gold Buying

By Farai D Hove| The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe which has continued to allow a convicted Kenyan criminal who destroyed that country’s econony to continue smuggling fake gold into Zimbabwe, has refused to liberalise gold buying.

The Kenyan Indian, Kamlesh Pattni, grounded his country’s economy selling fake minerals to the extent that it will take Kenya 90 years to be restored. He is the one whose workers were once arrested with trunks of US dollars in Borrowdale in 2017. Last year, he was exposed by ZimEye as he admitted to his activities inside Zimbabwe.

Impeccable ledger data in ZimEye’s possession for a 3 month period alone, show more than 50 million dollars worth of foreign stones were sold (and exchanged for hard USD currency) to the RBZ in the months running up to the day when Zimbabwe eventually ran out of foreign currency.

Yesterday the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) deputy governor Dr Kupukile Mlambo said Zimbabwe is not in a position to liberalise domestic gold marketing and buying as this will negatively affect the flow of foreign currency into the economy.

He was responding to calls by the Zimbabwe Miners Federation (ZMF) at the recent annual mining indaba who demanded an end to the monopoly of Fidelity Printers and Refiners.

Fidelity is an RBZ subsidiary and sole gold buyer in the country. Miners contend that the centralised gold buying system does not give them fair value for earnings and want Fidelity to compete with other players.

They also claim the monopoly is to blame for the sprouting of illicit gold trading on the parallel market and smuggling.

In an interview on the sidelines of a Sadc-Development Finance Institutions (Sadc-DFIs) forum hosted by the Sadc-Development Resource Centre, which ended here last Friday, Dr Mlambo said the call to liberalise the sector was not new.

“This is not the first time the call has come. An attempt to liberalise selling of gold was made between 2009 and 2013 but we realised that in terms of mobilisation of foreign currency, it was difficult because all sectors are supported by the mineral sector especially gold,” he said.

“In my view, I think it is premature now to start thinking that we can liberalise the sector. What is important for me is that we ensure that the small-scale gold miners are paid a fair price, which is as close to the international price as possible and that they get other support, which we are giving them under the small-scale gold miners’ facility.”

ZMF president Ms Henrietta Rushwaya had said the monopoly by Fidelity Printers was opening up the gold mining sector to exploitation of players hence the need to formalise the small-scale mining sector.

She said the country has about 30 000 registered players and more than 1,5 million unregistered small-scale miners.

Stakeholders have also stressed the need to regularise and speedily formalise the small-scale gold mining sector to harness all the output into mainstream production.

Gold mining contributes significantly to the economy in terms of export receipts and jobs.

The gold mining industry targets to produce 100 tonnes per year by 2023 to contribute to the envisaged $12 billion mining sector earnings by 2030.

Meanwhile, Sadc-DFIs conference ended on a high note here amid calls for respective countries to capacitate development finance institutions to collectively address climate change risks.

All Sadc countries were represented at the forum held under the banner of the Sadc Development Finance Resource Centre (Sadc-DFRC). The common message was anchored on the need to come up with strategies to encourage every institution’s participation in green financing to address climate change related calamities such as cyclones and disasters.

Sadc-DFRC chief executive Mr Stuart Kufeni said the gathering recommended that every member state should address policy issues to create a conducive environment for finance institutions to embrace green financing.

“This is a forum to share experiences and discuss these issues as they cut across sectors from SMEs to big institutions. What came out is that there are parameters that we need to address if we are to effectively harness and be able to move on to green financing.

“There are issues of regulation and policy environment to ensure that we have a conducive environment so that we can green our economies. The DFIs from different countries have to take these recommendations home and be in a position to also implement in their own countries,” said Mr Kufeni.

Dr Mlambo officially opened the conference where he said Zimbabwe was working on a framework that will guide the country’s financial sector to adopt sustainable green financing principles.

The Sadc-DFRC has 41 certified DFIs.

Membership of the DFIs network is as prescribed by a Sadc protocol structure made up of Ministers of Finance and Investment and is confined to those that are Government owned and established through a policy targeted at developing specific sectors of the economy. – Additional reporting ZimEye/ State Media

Minister: We’re Breaking Cartels

Government has started working on curbing cartels in the pharmaceutical sector, amid revelations that a team of Indian manufacturers will be arriving in the next few days to assess the working environment before setting up in-country warehouses, Health and Child Care Minister Dr Obadiah Moyo has said.

Presenting oral evidence to the Thematic Committee on HIV and Aids in Parliament yesterday, Dr Moyo said in the absence of a law that empowers Government to control prices of pharmaceutical products in the country, bringing competition to the market was the remaining option.

“The more companies that we are able to bring, the lower the costs will be because there will be competition.

“Talking of cartels, in the pharmaceutical industry, we will get rid of them by having more of the Indian players,” said Dr Moyo.

He said the current situation is that one agent in Zimbabwe is working with over 30 manufacturers in India, posing the risk of his monopoly overcharging desperate patients.

Dr Moyo said bringing in the Indian manufacturers to set up bonded warehouses in Zimbabwe will reduce costs.

“What we realised is that to curb unscrupulous elements in the pharmaceutical industry, we have to bring the manufacturers into the country. There is actually a team coming from India in the coming days to assess the working environment for bonded warehouses,” said Dr Moyo.

He said when these manufacturers set up warehouses in the country, Government will then negotiate favourable prices for their products, which should be lower than the ones charged by those who are bringing in the medicines on behalf of the manufacturers.

He said the bonded warehouses will be set up in conjunction with Natpharm, which is the sole procurer of Government pharmaceuticals.

“Natpharm will be able to access medicines while we work on capacitating local manufacturers, that is Caps, Datlabs, Varichem and so on.

“We want to make sure that we secure foreign currency for us to be able to buy active ingredients from India,” said Dr Moyo.

He said it was cheaper to import active ingredients that are used to produce the pharmaceuticals compared to importing finished products.

In response, chairperson of the Thematic Committee Senator Morgan Femai said his committee was pleased with how Government intended to address challenges currently bedevilling the pharmaceutical sector.

“We are happy with your presentation and response, especially the partnerships you have mentioned. We hope this will provide a relief to the people of Zimbabwe,” said Senator Femai.

The pharmaceutical industry is currently dominated by a few players who have access to products from Indian manufacturers through exclusive dealership, thereby creating market monopolies. Because of these monopolies, suppliers charge prices they deem necessary for the products and in most cases products are priced far beyond the retail price in the source country.

Some pharmacies are even charging strictly US dollars on certain drugs while the majority are pricing products according to the prevailing parallel market exchange rate.- State Media

Does Angolan Ambassador Know Anything About Zim Elections?

Farai Dziva| In a bid to please Emmerson Mnangagwa, the Angolan Ambassador to Zimbabwe claimed that MDC leader Nelson Chamisa clearly lost the 2018 Presidential plebiscite.

The outgoing Angolan Ambassador to Zimbabwe Pedro Hendrik Vaal Neto made the remarks at Munhumutapa Building.

“Whenever an opposition party loses an election its members must not work against their country but support the winner in the nation building.

The opposition must accept the realities of losing the elections.

It is not easy to lose, but you have to accept that you have lost and give the opportunity to the ones who won to govern and even to give support.

You do not lose your identity. You still remain Zimbabwean hence you have a duty to work in favour of your country. Being in opposition does not mean that you become a foreigner.”

Aspiring models are being invited to attend auditions for Miss World Zimbabwe in Harare in order to stand a chance to represent the country at the Miss World beauty contest.

The auditions will be held over three days, 13 to 15 June at the Miss Zimbabwe Trust offices in Harare.

Miss Zimbabwe Trust administrator Christine Matambo said those who will have met their criteria will be informed there and then.

“After the audition of each model, which is about 15 to 20 minutes, they’ll know whether they made it or not. There is a panel from the Trust who are seasoned professionals in their different fields of expertise who’ll tell the models to try next time if they don’t make it,” said Matambo.

Full Text- Heal Zimbabwe Statement On Continued Harrasment Of CSO Leaders

Heal Zimbabwe condemns the continued attack on Heal Zimbabwe Director, Rashid Mahiya by perceived state agents.

On 4 June 2019 around 0500 hours, alleged state agents besieged the house of Mahiya, surrounded it for about an hour and continuously knocked on the doors to be allowed entry.

The agents refused to identify themselves and were driving two unmarked Nissan vehicles.

This is not the first time state agents have used all sorts of tactics to threaten the security of Mahiya and his family. After the January 2019 peaceful protests, members of the security services launched a violent manhunt on Mahiya whom they accused of inciting citizens to demonstrate. While conducting the search, they heavily assaulted his brother and harassed his mother and wife.

Heal Zimbabwe notes that this continued trailing and harassment of Mahiya does not only compromise his security and that of his young family, but also violates his fundamental human rights and freedoms that are enshrined in the constitution such as the right to personal security.

This latest threat on the life of Mahiya, come at a time when seven Human Rights Defenders (HRDs) are languishing in prison facing a litany of charges that include effecting regime change.

In light of this, Heal Zimbabwe implores government to create a conducive environment for the enjoyment of fundamental human rights and freedoms that are exclusively provided for in the Bill of Rights (Chapter 4 of the constitution).

Added to this, the government must also stop criminalizing the work of CSOs as their contribution to the attainment of democracy in any given society is key.

Matemadanda Smiles As He Steps Into Border Gezi’s Shoes

By A Correspondent- Secretary general for Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans’ Association (ZNLWVA), Victor Matemadanda has been re-assigned by Zanu-PF to the hot position of Political Commissar with immediate effect. Most before him have suffered either an assassination or a humiliating exit and they include the late Border Gezi and Elliot Manyika. He takes over from Engelbert Rugeje who is waiting for redeployment in September this year.

The development was revealed during a press briefing by ZANU PF secretary for Information and Publicity Simon Khaya Moyo after the party’s extraordinary session of the Politburo. Moyo said:

The Politburo has appointed Cde Matemadanda to the position of Secretary for Commissariat replacing Cde Rugeje. Cde Rugeje will remain a Politburo member pending re-deployment in September this year.

Mnangagwa Currency Obsession Misplaced -MDC

Farai Dziva|In a statement at the weekend the MDC slammed Emmerson Mnangagwa’s fake attempt to demonetize the RTGS Dollar.

See the statement below:

Mnangagwa currency obsession misplaced

The MDC notes with concern the failure by the Mnangagwa’s administration to realise that their monetary approach is compounding the economic crisis.

Since the introduction of the bond notes, the financial sector has been distorted. These distortions created a three tier exchange and pricing system.

Good money was displaced by bad money, an elementary prediction any government ought to have envisaged.

Fast forward to Mnangagwa’s time, the bond note still exists, it now has several manifestations with cosmetic name changes.

A fake attempt to demonetise the bond note was made through a messy monetary policy early this year.

Further Mnangagwa usurped primary law-making powers of the legislature and gazetted SI33 of 2019 which in essence introduced a currency but left loopholes for currency patronage by political elites.

The State has been reduced to an arena of personal aggrandizement by a bunch of scoundrels who are enriching themselves and lining the pockets of their friends, in the process they have also commodified the US dollar.

A surrogate currency therefore exists for purposes of fishing out hard currency for the elites and the oligarchs.

Inflation is blowing, fuel shortages are unabatated and electricity blackouts are now the order of the day.
The masses are suffering due to the terrible decisions.

It is therefore shocking to have Mnangagwa intending to introduce a new currency making such an announcement 81 days after gazzeting SI33/19 whose balance sheet is there to see.

Name changes of currency will not solve the problems.

MDC Youth Leader Rubbishes Indian Ambassador’s Utterances

The MDC Youth Assembly rejects the negative characterisation of our party by the Indian Ambassador.

It is very easy to fall for the temptation to blame the victims.

The MDC has had it’s electoral victory stolen,it’s supporters raped, maimed and killed yet the Ambassador found no reason condemn crimes against humanity. Why should we take him seriously now.

The Youth Assembly would like to quickly remind him that the India of Mahatma Gandhi was always on the side of the oppressed.

The argument that once an election is over everything else is water under the bridge is not only misplaced but shocking.

Elections must reflect the will of the people ,if they don’t a crisis of legitimacy is birthed ,this is what is happening in Zimbabwe.

The people of Zimbabwe are suffering, statements such as his will only further delays to finding a solution,as a diplomat he should be urging the government to accept that there is a problem and one which Mnangagwa has failed to solve.

The MDC is a reasonable party which is why we called for dialogue based on President Chamisa’s five point plan, part of which will ensure election results are not contested in the future.

MDC Youth Assembly Mourns Vimbai Tsvangirai

The MDC Youth Assembly is deeply saddened by the passing on of Honorable Vimbai Tsvangirai Java.

Hon Tsvangirai’s death comes at a critical time when the movement and nation is crying for visionary young female leaders of her mould.

As a party, the untimely death of Honorable Tsvangirai Java is a double loss especially considering that she was recently elected the Women Assembly Secretary General in the just ended MDC 5th congress.

It is very painful that as a party we had invested our hopes on tapping wisdom from this rare crop of a woman that we believed attained best ever leadership degree from her iconic father, Dr Morgan Richard Tsvangirai.

As an Assembly, we are deeply gutted as we had also hoped to tap from this spring of wisdom which had so much abundance of promise in the short time that she served as a Member of Parliament for Glen View South Constituency.

As we mourn, we remain alive to fact that Honorable Tsvangirai Java’s death is a signpost to the man made hellhole that our country has become.

Our roads have become death snares due to lack of proper maintenance and road signs.

It is not mendacious that ZANU PF is the author in chief of all this rot associated with road carnage.

As young people of this once jewel of Africa, it is time we take charge and stop this mismanagement that has claimed thousands of lives.

Once again we would like to express our deepest heartfelt condolences to the MDC family, Tsvangirai and Java families and our President Nelson Chamisa.

Rest In Power Hon Vimbai Tsvangirai Java!

Female Inmates Mix With Male Inmates, Severe Cause For Concern

Scenes from the Zimbabwe Prison and Correctional Service, Ministry of Justice officers and Prison Primary School clean-up exercise last Friday

FEMALE prison inmates are mixing in one vehicle with male inmates when attending courts due to unavailability of transport, a top prison official has said.

In an interview during a cleanup campaign that saw Zimbabwe Prison and Correctional Service, Ministry of Justice officers and Prison Primary School pupils joining up last Friday, Commissioner General Paradzayi Zimondi said mixing inmates was a cause of concern.

“This has been so for the past 10 years and what is so worrying is that female inmates are mixing with male inmates in one vehicle from their cells to attend courts.

“Due to shortage of vehicles inmates are forced to stand in the vehicle while mixed to allow a number of inmates to be at courts on time.

He said the situation was worse when transferring inmates to other prisons.

“We have been operating with limited resources especially on transport to take inmates to court and their movement to another prison,” said Comm-Gen Zimondi.

“We received a number of inmates who are on remand for the past few months and most of the suspects are facing robbery cases.”

He urged people to start practicing cleanliness at their homes thanking President Mnangagwa for making it a collective responsibility that saw every Zimbabwean cleaning their immediate environment every first Friday of the each month.

“Today we are joined by our pupils and officials from the Ministry of Justice to clean places where our officers stay and our message is to encourage them to clean their homes daily before going to work or attending lessons,” said Comm-Gen Zimondi.

“What we are doing today is a strong message to our children that is why we are with them today, interacting and directing them on the better way to live life.

“I took my time to find out what these kids wanted to do when they grow up and was surprised to discover that many of them do not want to be lawyers,” he said.

On the issue of Bev showing her sexually seductive dances before the inmates, Comm-Gen Zimondi said he has learnt a lesson and promised the nation to do corrections where necessary.

Murdered Senzo Meyiwa Finally Gets Justice, Prominent Personality To Be Arrested Soon.

Three well-known personalities and a top cop are allegedly facing serious arrest for defeating the ends of justice in the murder case of the late Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa.

The fourth person, who is also well-known, will also be facing arrest in the next few days for the murder of Meyiwa.

The mother of one of the suspects as well as two other people are also being watched by the crack detective team for their role in the 2014 murder of the national team keeper.

The decision to arrest the suspects comes after they were taken to police headquarters in Pretoria recently, where they were questioned and also had to be subjected to lie detector tests.

The investigating team approached the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) recently and requested them to authorise warrants for the arrest of the eight people.

Prosecutors slammed brakes on the operation, which was supposed to be carried out on Friday, and asked the elite cops to go find some missing pieces of the puzzle before they grant the warrants.

They had hoped to arrest the suspects by the end of this week, but it can even happen any time soon as they believe they have a winnable case against the suspects. The police were willing to take the matter to court.

The police are indeed ready and went to ask for warrants to arrest the suspects, these people are under pressure after (police) minister Bheki Cele announced that they would make a breakthrough by the end of April.

Investigations are still under way and we can’t confirm or deny that the police approached the prosecutors to grant them warrants to arrest the suspects.

Angolan Ambassador Claims Chamisa Lost Presidential Election

Mnangagwa Fires Rugeje

Engelbert Rugeje

Own Correspondent|Information just received indicates that ZANU PF leader President Emmerson Mnangagwa has summarily dismissed the party political commissar Engelbert Rugeje from his position.

Sources within the party indicated that Rugeje has been replaced by Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association secretary general Victor Matemadanda.

“Rugeje will leave the politburo in October. He had indicated that he would step-down after the elections. It has just been a matter of time,” a source said.

War veterans spokesperson Douglas Mahiya replaces Matemadanda in the former liberation war fighters association.

Critics claim that the removal of Rugeje who played a huge role in bringing down former President Robert Mugabe is a deliberate move by Mnangagwa to weaken his rival Vice President Costantino Chiwenga.

Rugeje is a very close ally of Chiwenga.

FARE THEE WELL RUTH LEMANI

By Dr Masimba Mavaza| The only certainty in a hero’s life is that it could end at any moment. As a hero, RUTH LEMANI could not banish dangers, but could banish fears.

We mustn’t demean life by standing in awe of death.

Death is no more than a turning of us over from time to eternity. Eternity . . . such a small word to describe such a haunting vastness.

And so, we ask ourselves: Will our actions echo across the centuries? Will strangers hear our names long after we’re gone and know who we were?DR RUE had silently done that.

To take you all back a bit, one thing for sure is many knew the departed RUTH LEMANI. But for those of you who didn’t, she was a patriot who loved Zimbabwe. She was not shy to be ZANU PF. RUTH could mix with everybody despite her political divide.

Also, Ruth was a founding member of a group called Political debate ZimPolicy Dialogue Institute, where the likes of MDC-T vice-president, Nelson Chamisa, Norton MP Temba Mliswa, ZimPF founding elder, Didymus Mutasa, Renewal Democrats of Zimbabwe leader, Elton Mangoma, MDC leader, Welshman Ncube, Kisinoti Mukwazhi, Nathan Banana and Lloyd Msipa James Chafara and Mugaradziko were or are still members of the trust.

But Lemani the hero who has lost her life in battle, will not be forgotten soon. Those of us who knew her best will tell stories of her bravery, her heroism, and her sacrifice.

We will talk of how she stood by us through thick and thin, and how we saved each other’s lives more than a few times.

We will carry the memory of our friend in our hearts forever, we will celebrate her life and we will cherish the memories of her fierce loyalty, unwavering convictions, and deep, faithful love.

This hero is gone from this life, but she is not forgotten. She will live on within us. Death is not the end of her story, merely the next chapter. She has taken her place in resting and waiting for the Lord and will spend eternity with those whose hearts are brave and good, just like her own.

Knowing this hero has made us better people, and for that, we should be grateful. Her memory will live on, and it is our privilege and responsibility to ensure she is remembered forever for how honourably she lived, how bravely they fought, and how fiercely they loved. Her vision was a better Zimbabwe, regardless of who controls it. She put together all political gurus, all idiots and all people.
She united those sworn enemies and fished out the best out of them. Such was Ruth.

The Lord has taken and the Lord will comfort.

May God bless her family.May she wait for the Lord in peace. We await the day the Lord will come. This body prone to pain will be changed in a moment in the twinkling of an eye.

And the trumpet will sound and the dead will be raised incorruptible.
There will never again be any death, for death will be defeated.
Ruth is now rested and her journey is finished

ZACC Nomination Process A Scam

Letter to the Editor

The nomination process was a ruse to make the the public believe they were being involved in the process. While the public made the nominations, there was a final selection of 38 candidates who the public did choose. If it is a public process why didn’t the public get to see the profiles of all the candidates before they were whittled down to 38.

I also note that the final 10 will be decided over a 20 minute interview. While the candidates to be interviewed appear to be academic, fighting corruption requires much more than public nomination and a 20 minute interview.

The nation would have expected candidates to go a rigorous vetting process where they will be asked to take part in group exercises, presentations with the individuals being eliminated at each stage then the final 15 or so go for a face to face interview lasting at least one hour. Articulating corruption requires much more than just being an academic.

There are personal attributes which may not be apparent on the CV or nomination form therefore a rigorous vetting exercise was supposed to done publicly.

One Chokuda has argued that they considered experience and qualifications but the previous ZACC Boards had the so called academics and experience but delivered nothing other than corruption and gross incompetence. Fighting corruption requires sincerity, integrity and honesty on top of experience and qualifications.

The nomination process does not show how sincere and honest people are. The list of the candidates has some who are fearless and have been anti establishment for a long time but fighting corruption requires more than being a critique of the government . It requires a deep understanding of the micro and macro economic processes, political and social factors and how they breed and venerate corruption.

Anti corruption strategies require someone who knows they are to bring synergy and cohesion among the various anti corruption organisations in Zimbabwe. At the moment the situation is a theatre of illusions with each organisation or individual trying to have a monopoly over the fight against corruption without including other agencies.

We will be watching the live interviews to see how the candidates articulate how they will fight corruption This is a pointer of how the nomination of people into key boards results in lapdogs making decisions that bring the country on its knees

“Underpaid” Soldiers Fingered In Spate Of Crimes Nationally

By Talent Gondo- Zimbabwe National Army Chief of Staff (Quartermaster Staff) Major-General Hlanganani Dube has revealed that army members are now joining hands with criminal syndicates to rob and plunder for economic survival.

Major General Dube said the ZNA is concerned with the increase in criminal cases involving its members some of of which include theft of army rations, robbery, fraud, illegal panning, abuse of military equipment and many others.

He however advised that the army will not tolerate such behaviour warning that those who violate the law will be fired.

He said:

“We will not hesitate to discharge culprits who will be found on the wrong side of the law regardless of their ranks.

It is unfortunate that social media has proved to be a double-edged sword and in most cases, it has become a threat to national security through the transmission of hostile and misleading messages.

I, therefore, urge you to use such platforms cautiously as members of the security forces since breaches of national security nowadays are always through social media.

Gem Boys Hold Dembare

Farai Dziva| Dynamos and Manica Diamonds settled for a goalless draw at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday.

The encounter was a game of two halves and the Glamour Boys were the better side in the first period while the Gem Boys came from the break more determined.

The first real attempt of the day came in the 7th minute when Ali Maliselo got the space and hit at goal only to be denied by Tafadzwa Dube.

The visitors responded a few moments later through Timire Mamvura and Patson Jaure who had their efforts saved by keeper Simba Chinyani.

Dynamos, however, regrouped and dominated possession but didn’t create any threating opportunities for the remainder of the half.

Despite playing second fiddle in the opening minutes after the break, Manica retained dominance and made a couple of attacks which were denied by Chinani who was excellent throughout the match.

Last Jesi was the first to get his effort saved in the 67th minute while Tendai Mukuno’s big chance was stopped on minute 80 as it ended in a goalless draw.

Portugal Lift Inaugural UEFA Nations League Cup

Farai Dziva| Goncalo Guedes second half strike was all that Portugal needed to beat Netherlands 1-0 to lift the inaugural UEFA Nations League.

Last night’s victory means the Portuguese have now won both UEFA men’s tittles, after captuting Euro in 2016.

The game started on a slow pace and both teams sought to emerge tactically superior, with the Dutch dominating early exchanges and Portugal looking to break on the counter.

Star skipper Cristiano Ronaldo produced a sublime effort in the first half which was well intercepted by Dailey Blind.

The two teams went into the break level at 0-0 and ten minutes into the second half, the deadlock was finally broken.

A brilliant Portguese move was well finished by Guedes, who briilint finished courtsey of a shot from the edge of the area.

“Zanu PF Is Keen To Consume National Resources To Extinction “

Farai Dziva|Opposition party Economic Freedom Fighters says Zanu PF is keen to consume national resources to extinction.

See the party’s full statement below:

Zimbabwe is not ready for a new currency

Zimbabwe Economic Freedom Fighters (“ZIM EFF”) have noted with great concern, the recent commentary by President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his Minister of Finance regarding plans to introduce a NEW Zimbabwean Currency before the end of the year. On a different day and time, as ZIM EFF, we would have applauded such a move as not only patriotic but as an advancement of the struggle to emancipate our incomplete struggle for the Economic Freedom of our people. We remain alert to the real reasons why such a plan would be prematurely advanced by this Government when all conditions on the ground point otherwise.

ZIM EFF is also unapologetic in our view that the Zimbabwean problems that bedevil this country can never be solved by the same mentality that created them. ZANU PF and its cabal are at the forefront of the economic collapse of our beloved country. No amount of trickery or hidden agenda will convince or satisfy our people into believing that the introduction of a new currency brings with it, great expectations. ZIM EFF views such an attempt as a premature and desperate attempt by the ruling cabal to continue the looting and squander that has characterized its 39 year rule.

A new currency will only serve to benefit this lot whose half-hearted attempt to address the dire needs of our population which so badly needs a resuscitation of hope and livelihood is an obvious opportunity for the few to once again, line-up their pockets.
ZIM EFF believes the Zimbabwean Economy and therefore, the Currency question cannot be solved without the cleansing and fixing of the rogue political environment of our beloved Zimbabwe. Over 39 years of independence, this failed Zanu PF government has presided over the collapse of Zimbabwe and the reward for personal gain to the inner circle.

They failed to uphold the fundamentals that our Liberation Heroes died fighting for. This government lacks the moral backbone and the skill and political bank to implement a currency regime that will benefit its people. Any self-respecting government that seeks to put the people first will ask itself the following questions before jumping into yet another failed attempt of yet another currency:

  1. Is Zimbabwe’s current environment ideal for the re-introduction of a Zimbabwean currency?
  2. Has Zimbabwe adequately identified the root causes for the current impasse to avoid a repetition of the past errors by this Government?
  3. What is that will back this currency that is stronger than the political expediency currently at play?
There appears to be a deliberate and criminal intent by this Zanu PF government to continue to feed our people with classic failed policy changes, poor implementations and emphatic slogans that are geared to hoodwink our people into thinking this Government is busy at work. ZIM EFF fundamentally believes that the leopard is yet to change its spots and that the economic meltdown that has repeatedly wiped out our people’s hard earned savings is a construction of a corrupt and incapable Government whose main target is to remain in power by all means necessary and in the process, squander and loot the public purse for the benefit of the few. The introduction of a Zimbabwean currency is intended to enable the continuation of such looting, this time, to once again adopt quantitative easing economics to once open opportunities to print this currency and pleasure the few in the Zanu PF cabal whilst our masses remain desperate and poor.
    Zimbabwe currently has no economy or financial sector to talk about. We have an enclave of public institutions that are laced with members of the cabal for the sole purpose of a continued slaughter of our economy and its natural resources. ZIM EFF strongly believes the following fundamentals are key before there can be any talk of introducing a new currency;
  4. Our people do not trust the intentions of this Zanu PF government and will never support a currency regime that is backed by their political promises which have failed for the past 39 years;
  5. The de-linking, de-politicisation and de-militarisation of the of the Zimbabwean Economic programme from the Zanu PF Head Quarters and Military barracks to be left in the hands of capable independent and viable national institutions;
  6. Restoration of the independence of the Zimbabwe Reserve Bank and all associated government institutions that should be managed and run by suitably qualified professionals;
  7. Review and adoption of suitable Fiscal and Monitory policies geared towards enhancing an effective free market economy whose obvious benefits will soon put to sleep the current vibrant black-market economy;
  8. Delivery of an open and transparent political space void of the on-going brutality against citizens and opposing views. A complete stop of the imposition of recycled and failed leadership whose only vigour is to stay in power;
  9. Development of a progressive Tax Management system with adequately equipped independent national supporting institutions that are sensitive to the core pillars of Economic growth;
  10. Complete eradication of corruption, fraud and ongoing looting of state resources by all pillars of government accompanied by the rule of law whose mandate should prioritise bringing all those that have squandered the resources of this country to account;
  11. Restoration of an Independent, transparent and constitutional Justice system and Rule of law void of the current and apparent pro-Zanu influence; and
  12. Set up of a dedicated and transparent “clean-up” process to get rid of corrupt and incapable Zanu PF deployees whose main interests are to fill their pockets and those of their masters.
“A fool is classically defined as a person who continues to do the same things over and over but expects a different outcome”

The current Zimbabwean Economic status is a combination of a long journey of comic political, criminal and nepotist policy and infrastructural blunders of a regime that has literally driven the economy to its knees. It has been characterised by a determined race by a party keen to consume our resources to extinction.

Our people have been the obvious losers in all this. The introduction of a currency at such a stage is bound to enable the continued abuse of our economy by this cabal. We have witnessed over many years, some of the obvious outputs of the modus operandi of this regime;

  1. The continued irresponsible implementation of an expansive Monetary policy regime and quantitative easing approach adopted through the compromised Reserve Bank in the absence of appropriate suitable conditions for such an approach. A new currency will place the printing machine once again, in the hands of this lot, in the process, outpacing inflation previously experienced by our people;
  2. The three centres of Power created when Robert Mugabe was ousted in November 2017 resulted in the Military, the Executive and the Zanu PF Head Quarters’ squabbling for the control of purse. This Reserve Bank has been used as a tool for the Zanu PF government as directed by the military command to re-direct its resources to advance factional, military and government decisions outside of policy. Whose benefit will this new currency actually serve?
  3. The sustained multi-currency policy ordinarily geared to favour these three centres of Power through currency arbitrage differentials rather than enable the masses to live. These are the beneficiaries of Those that benefit hugely from the access to USD currency, those burdened by the irresponsible introduction of the RTGS and Bond Notes whilst the cabal accesses the stronger and stable USD;
  4. The existence of a strong black market economy which competes against neoclassical policy implementation by the current Minister of Finance to no effective benefit of our people;
ZIM EFF believes that our country needs a huge dosage of healing, a configured economic resuscitation plan void of corruption and political influence, a transparent and effective state and a political environment that tolerates dissent. A currency is largely dependent on the ability of its masses to Trust and believe in the value of its currency. Introducing a currency right now, is simply gifting the same cabal yet another instrument to loot and squander without any meaningful Economic Freedom of our people.
  5. ZIM EFF demands a clean-up of the political space, the execution of an independent and effective justice system, an independent Reserve Bank and complete eradication of corruption in Government before we can consider bringing any news of a new currency.

We want to see measurable benefits for our people and the stop to imaginary policy positions disguised as “Zimbabwe is open for business” mantra which in reality is a continuation of the old tricks in new shoes.

Respect People’s Will, Just Step Down, MDC Official Tells Mnangagwa

Farai Dziva|MDC Youth Assembly deputy chairperson Cecilia Chimbiri has said Emmerson Mnangagwa must respect the will of the people by resigning.

In an interview with a daily paper Chimbiri said :” Even if you catch a thief stealing in your house they will refuse, they will always have a way to defend themselves. I am sure we have all seen how Zanu PF have destroyed this country with their own hands. I don’t think this is a new dispensation that they have been grandstanding about and they accuse the opposition for causing violence, to want to subvert the government etc, and so many things that they talk about.

But what is of importance right now is to clearly look at the lives of Zimbabweans. Who in your view can afford a day in Zimbabwe, who can afford life in Zimbabwe right now? Nobody can, a mere civil servant can’t even afford to pay for the house that they rent. So, for me it’s not about what Mnangagwa says, but about what the people are saying because he also purports to represent the people.”

” So, when the people are saying they don’t want him and they are suffering and they need change, then that’s the route that we are going to take when the people send us to represent them we will simply direct them in a direction that will make us deliver,” she added.

Walk The Talk, Germany Tells Mnangagwa

Farai Dziva|An official from the Republic of Germany has urged Emmerson Mnangagwa to walk the talk instead of “pampering” the world with high sounding words.

The director-general for Sub Saharan Africa in the German Federal Ministry for Economic Co-operation and Development (BMZ), Stefan Oswald on Thursday said:”
The lyrics of the new Zimbabwe government are perfect, but what counts is to move from lyrics to action.

Otherwise I cannot convince anybody over here to re-engage with Zimbabwe, and that is something which is really important.”

“In principle, the programmes presented by the President and his new Cabinet are good, but making it happen to convince us also that they are really serious about it is the difference we can talk about.

You can write nice papers, but if the political will is not there to really make it happen, there is a problem.

The President has to go into discussion with those who brought him into power because the military is having a strong rule and they are not reform-minded.”

Zim Celebrates Trade Surplus With China

Zimbabwe last year enjoyed a trade surplus of US$445 million with China, in a show of the positive upshots of the growing relations between Harare and Beijing.

China’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe,  Ambassador Mr Gou Shaochun, said this in an exclusive interview with The Herald, revealing that he was eager to see more Chinese investors in Zimbabwe, particularly in the manufacturing sector, which is key to the country’s industrialisation and modernisation.

He said trade between Zimbabwe and China stood at US$1,3 billion in 2018, with Zimbabwe enjoying the larger share of exports.

“The statistics on trade between Zimbabwe and China in 2018 is US$1,3 billion, with China importing US$890 million worth of products and exporting US$445 million worth of products. It shows that Zimbabwe enjoys a US$445 million trade surplus by trading with China. These numbers are similar every year. China wishes to expand trade scale with Zimbabwe and help Zimbabwe reconstruct its economy,” Ambassador Guo said.

MDC Slams Mnangagwa “Fake Attempt To Demonetize Useless Currency “

If Politicians Fail To Sober Up, Zim Will Become Ungovernable: Church

Churches and the civic society say Zimbabwe risks falling into anarchy if the leaders of major political parties fail to dialogue and address pressing issues without resorting to violence.

We no longer need bloodshed in our country if we are to move away from the poverty we are facing.“
