Heart Broken Teenage Hadebe Apologises To Nation For Own Goal Against DRC

Teenage Hadebe failed to contain tears as he issued a passionate apology to the nation after his first-half own goal denied Zimbabwe an historic moment which would have seen them secure a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations berth with two games to spare at the National Sports Stadium last night.

Hadebe turned the ball past his own goalkeeper George Chigova as he attempted to clear it off a Democratic Republic of Congo player from the left.

With Zimbabwe seemingly cruising their way to the 2019 Nations Cup finals in Cameroon after an opening minute early goal by talismanic midfielder Khama Billiat, Hadebe became the fall-guy as he turned a swerving Issama Mpeko cross past the static Chigova in the 23rd minute.

Until then, it had been a one-way traffic for the Warriors who kept on probing the visitors’ goal in search of an insurance goal, which they once thought had come through Knox Mutizwa’s boot.

But the Golden Arrows striker was adjudged to have been in an offside position before poking the ball home.

Despite the unfortunate incident, Hadebe hardly put a foot wrong and the Kaizer Chiefs defender was so distraught after the match, he could not gather enough courage to join his teammates as they were receiving a standing ovation from an appreciative crowd.
Hadebe instead broke down into tears and it took full-backs Tendayi Darikwa and Ronald Pfumbidzai to console him and encourage him to join the others in the procession.

The former Highlanders man tried to gesture his apologies to the fans but occasionally lacked proper composure to do so.

When he finally collected himself, the lanky defender said he was sorry for the miscue which gifted the nervy visitors the goal they barely deserved.

Zimbabwe would have secured their fourth Nations Cup qualification had they won last night’s tie.

They can however, seal their place at the 2019 tourney away from home next month when they play Liberia.

“I am very sorry for disappointing the whole nation after scoring the own-goal that eventually denied the team what would have been a remarkable achievement for the country,” said Hadebe.

“We were leading and pressing the opponents hard as we wanted to score another goal but unfortunately, I am the one who scored the own goal that afforded the opponents the equaliser.

“I am sorry to the fans, to my teammates and even to myself. These things happen in football and I am happy I tried to lift my spirits after that mistake.

“I was down, I mean down after that miscue which resulted in the goal and I never thought I would come out of that incident and still perform well.

“I told myself not to get down, I had to work hard and try to be positive for the good of the country.”
Hadebe said the Warriors might not have secured passage to AFCON as early as last night following the draw, but they will qualify without any hassles.

“We are still unbeaten in the group and we remain in control and I am sure we can do it. We will qualify for AFCON 2019 without much trouble.

“We have to make the nation proud and try to achieve a lot with this group of exciting players.

“We failed to score some of our chances but going into the last two matches of the campaign, I am sure we will get it right,” Hadebe said.

Vice-captain Ovidy Karuru, who stood in for the suspended Knowledge Musona blamed fatigue for their inconsistent performance last night but remained confident the Warriors would qualify.

Karuru said the team’s journey to and from the DRC inside a week drained much energy from the boys.

The Warriors beat DRC in Kinshasa on Saturday and they were on the plane hours later to prepare for last night’s match.

“I think the team played well and given that fatigue was catching up on us having travelled to the DRC and back.
“We were a little bit drained and it showed. But, all the same I would like to salute the boys for their resilience. The draw takes up a step nearer to Cameroon.

“The DRC didn’t deny us a chance to qualify for AFCON, they only delayed the party and I would like to reassure the nation that we will be in Cameroon next year.”

Nottingham Forest defender Darikwa, who is gelling well with his teammates having made his maiden appearance for Zimbabwe on Saturday in Kinshasa also backed the Warriors to qualify.

“We are firmly in control of the group and I don’t see any team stopping us from qualifying,” Darikwa said.

According to a voice audio circulated on social media and allegedly belonging to him, Danda told police at Senga in Gweru that he would often sniff at the underwear to feel the female scent and be sexually aroused.

During those moments, he “admits”, he got the much desired female scent while imagining himself having sexual intercourse with the owners for his own sexual gratification.

Danda is due to appear in court soon and if convicted of the crime, he risks being thrown out of MSU for bringing the name of the top university into disrepute.

Harare Fake Big Spender Arrested For Fraudulent Payments At Club Sankayi

By Paul Nyathi| The big spending spree at Genius Kadungure’s Club Sankayi in Harare has certainly been a time bomb waiting to explode on some of the big spenders.

One of Kadungure’s big spending regular customers Thulani Roy Dlamini has found himself in trouble after he defrauded the night spot of $87 000 through fake payments for highly expensive alcoholic drinks.

Dhlamini (23) was Tuesday hauled before Harare magistrate, Rumbidzai Mugwagwa facing theft charges.

According to court papers, during a period stretching from 28 September to 14 October 2018, Dhlamini had become a regular customer as he purchased alcohol from the club on different occasions.

He was to pay by means of electronic transfers into the club’s CABS account.

Court heard that in a bid to steal from the club, Dhlamini created fake payment confirmation messages which he sent to the club using his a Capital Bank account.

Dhlamini, it is further alleged, consumed alcohol of varying amounts, of $10 000, $12 000, $25 000, $4 000 on different occasions and dates.

Each time he took the alcohol, he would send fake confirmation messages to the club claiming he had indeed paid for the alcohol.

Kadungure did not bother to check with the bank during that material time.

After realising that the accused was continuously buying alcohol worth thousands of dollars each time, Ginimbi became suspicious prompting him to visit his bank to confirm the payments.

That is when he discovered that the alleged transactions did not reflect in their bank account.

Prosecutors said the accused person stole alcohol valued at $87 000 and nothing was recovered.

The case continues on trial. Sebastian Mutizirwa appeared for the state.

Microsoft Founder Dies Aged 65

Microsoft Co-Founder Paul Allen died from complications of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma on Monday afternoon.

Allen’s Vulcan Inc. announced that he died in Seattle at 65 years old.

Allen’s sister, Jody, said he was “a remarkable individual on every level.”

“While most knew Paul Allen as a technologist and philanthropist, for us he was a much-loved brother and uncle, and an exceptional friend. Paul’s family and friends were blessed to experience his wit, warmth, his generosity and deep concern,” she said in a statement.

“For all the demands on his schedule, there was always time for family and friends. At this time of loss and grief for us – and so many others – we are profoundly grateful for the care and concern he demonstrated every day.”

Allen ranked among the world’s wealthiest individuals. As of Monday afternoon, he ranked 44th on Forbes’ 2018 list of billionaires with an estimated net worth of more than $20 billion.

Through Vulcan, Allen’s network of philanthropic efforts and organizations, the Microsoft co-founder supported research in artificial intelligence and new frontier technologies. The group also invested in Seattle’s cultural institutions and the revitalization of parts of the city.

Allen owned two professional sports teams, the NFL Seattle Seahawks and NBA Portland Trailblazers.

He was also an electric guitarist who occasionally jammed with celebrity musicians including Bono and Mick Jagger, and a huge music fan. He funded and designed the Experience Music Project in Seattle, devoted to the history of rock music and dedicated to his musical hero Jimi Hendrix. (It has since been re-christened the Museum of Pop Culture.) The building was designed by architect Frank Gehry to resemble a melted electric guitar.

Vulcan CEO Bill Hilf said, “All of us who had the honor of working with Paul feel inexpressible loss today.”

“He possessed a remarkable intellect and a passion to solve some of the world’s most difficult problems, with the conviction that creative thinking and new approaches could make profound and lasting impact,” Hilf said in a statement.

Earlier this month, Allen revealed that he had started treatment for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, the same type of cancer he was treated for in 2009.

In 1983, Allen left the company he founded with Bill Gates when he was first diagnosed with Hodgkin’s disease, which he defeated.

Bill Gates, who co-founded Microsoft with Allen, said that “personal computing would not have existed without him”:

“I am heartbroken by the passing of one of my oldest and dearest friends, Paul Allen.

From our early days together at Lakeside School, through our partnership in the creation of Microsoft, to some of our joint philanthropic projects over the years, Paul was a true partner and dear friend. Personal computing would not have existed without him.

But Paul wasn’t content with starting one company. He channeled his intellect and compassion into a second act focused on improving people’s lives and strengthening communities in Seattle and around the world.

He was fond of saying, “If it has the potential to do good, then we should do it.” That’s the kind of person he was.

Paul loved life and those around him, and we all cherished him in return. He deserved much more time, but his contributions to the world of technology and philanthropy will live on for generations to come. I will miss him tremendously.”

VP Mohadi’s Wife Tambudzani Demands 13k Spousal Maintenance

By Own Correspondent| Wife to Vice President Kembo Mohadi Tambudzani has dragged her husband to court 0demanding $13 394 per month in spousal maintenance.

VP Mohadi and Tambudzani are involved in a divorce case where allegations of adultery are still before the courts.

Through her lawyers, Messrs Scanlen and Holderness, Tambudzani, who is also Beitbridge Senator, filed a court application on Monday this week and the matter is yet to be set down for hearing.

Tambudzani said while she was living with Mohadi before separating in 1999, the couple purchased various businesses which are now under her husband’s control.

As a result she is now surviving on a minimal allowance from her position as a senator.

Tambudzani said it was just and equitable for her to be awarded the sum of $13 394 per month as maintenance, which would enable her to enjoy and maintain a standard of living reasonably comparable to the standard of living she used to enjoy while living with Mohadi.

She also wants Mohadi to pay her legal costs to enable her to prosecute the pending divorce proceedings.

Last month, Tambudzani petitioned the High Court seeking $1,5 million adultery damages from Mohadi’s alleged current girlfriend, Juliet Mutavhatsindi, arguing she was still the VP’s legal spouse.-Newsday

“We Will Accept Fair And Reasonable Criticism”: Zanu Pf’s Jonathan Samkange

By Own Correspondent| Zanu Pf’s Mudzi South legislator Jonathan Samkange told Deputy chairperson of the European Union Election Observer Mission Mark Stevens that his party will accept fair and reasonable criticism.

The European Union Election Observer Mission to Zimbabwe’s July 30, 2018, harmonised elections met with the Parliamentary Legal Committee members led by Samkange.

Samkange said electoral reform is an ongoing process.

Said Samkange:

“It is a process that is ongoing. As for 2023 elections we have already started. The process will look at various proposals. I believe generally we accept fair and reasonable criticism. My party Zanu-PF will accept fair criticism.”

Stevens said Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda who is also a Zanu-PF legislator agreed on the possibility of an Ad-Hoc committee on electoral reforms or a standing committee to address electoral issues.

A member of the EU delegation to Zimbabwe, Mr Thomas von Handel said it is up to Zimbabwe to implement the recommendations in the EUEOM final report.

Chinese Taking Advantage of Zim Crisis To Milk Resources: MDC Senator

MDC Alliance senator Lillian Tiumveos has accused Chinese of taking advantage of Zimbabwe’s crisis to swindle the nation of its resources.

Timveos made the remarks during debate in parliament.

“What I am saying is that this country is one of the richest country in the world.  We have got raw materials, we have got educated people, we have got over 4 to 5 million people that are outside the country that can actually come back and make use of the raw materials.  I actually think the Chinese nationals are taking advantage of us but if we are to implement the devolution provincial councils, these things would not be happening as they are happening,” she said.

“I am giving you an example of reality about the Chinese people, I stay in Zvishavane; they do not even pay workers well.  The workers that are working in these chrome mines get US$5 a day, 7 days a week and they do not even have off days.  If we had these provincial councils, the Government would actually be aware of how our people are being abused.  They even beat up workers, the do not look after us well but you must know that as Zimbabweans we actually respect foreigners more than we respect our own people.”

She said when people  go outside the country, they laugh at them saying ooh those poor people they are here looking for this and that.

“When they come here we handle them with kid gloves, we give them attention.  Yes, let us give them attention, they must come and invest in this country but the first thing we should ask them is what our people are benefiting.  If we are benefiting nothing then they must not get the deal,” she said.

“I really need to support the motion and I really need the Government to really look at this, every Senator should look at this, this is the Constitution.  The Constitution is clear and what I mentioned here, I actually took it from the Constitution which means that we actually agreed in 2013 to do this.  So, why is it so complicated and why must we even debate about this because it should have been done way back.  So, we are hoping that as Hon. Senators let us agree that this has to be done as soon as yesterday.”

Mthuli Ncube Admits Failure

Jane Mlambo| Finance minister, Mthuli Ncube has admitted to government failure to control the parallel market rates which despite falling last week have returned to the bullish mode and are now trading at around 300 percent.
Addressing journalists after a Cabinet meeting last night, Ncube said, “Our market rate is 1:1 convertibility to the US$, both for RTGS balances and bond notes. That is the official exchange rate. So really, we cannot be commenting about movements in the parallel markets to influence our policy.”
Ncube pleaded with ordinary Zimbabweans not to trade on the parallel market.
“However, having said that, what we can say is that people should desist from being involved in the parallel market, both in terms of currency activities and activities on the goods market,” he said.

Create Own Jobs, ED Tells Graduates

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa last week told over 3 000 Great Zimbabwe University (GZU) graduates that they should create their own jobs or risk sinking into oblivion as formal employment opportunities continue to shrink.

In his acceptance speech as the second Chancellor of the GZU at the institution’s 12th graduation ceremony held at the main campus, Mnangagwa told the graduates to be employment creators.

“As you begin the next phase of life, seek to be creators of wealth and employment. Desire to be positive transformers of your families, communities and the nation at large,” he told the 3 916 graduates.

Zimbabwe is grappling with massive unemployment, estimated to be at over 80%, while government has insisted unemployment was at 15% because the majority of citizens were employed as informal traders.

The country’s various institutions of higher learning annually churn out around 20 000 graduates, without a corresponding expansion of the job market as most major industries have closed while the few remaining have scaled down operations.

Mnangagwa also warned universities against mass enrolment for the sake of raising income as the practice affected the quality of education provision.

“I exhort GZU to increase its relevance, visibility and impact in line with our country’s mordenisation and industrialisation agenda towards the attainment of vision 2030 … In the second republic, institutions of higher learning must no longer merely take pride in student enrolment figures or the glamour of infrastructure,” he said.

He said universities and colleges should provide essential knowledge balanced with the exploitation of natural resources, environmental sustainability and economic development.

The GZU’s current enrolment stands at 15 000, up from 4 000 in 2012, according to its Vice-Chancellor, Rungano Zvobgo.

Meet The ‘Fixer’ Who Helped Mnangagwa Dodge Assassination In Nov 2017

It’s a balmy November night in Harare’s leafy Gunhill neighborhood when Ameerh Naran’s mobile phone rings.

The caller is the son of Emmerson Mnangagwa, Zimbabwe’s then-vice president. He wants Naran to help his father escape the country. President Robert Mugabe had just fired his former enforcer and the family got a tip that there will be an attempt on Mnangagwa’s life.

The call kickstarts a frenzied few hours for Naran, 32, who specializes in fulfilling aviation requests for clients including billionaires, politicians and celebrities. He starts working his phone to arrange a medical evacuation for Mnangagwa to South Africa.

But then — after hours of calls, careful coordination and with an ambulance and nurse pulling up to Mnangagwa’s hideout — the politician decides to go his own route. He drives to the border and escapes by foot into Mozambique before returning a few days later to seize power.

Naran’s recollections of the episode illustrate the outlandish and unpredictable requests that make up his daily grind. His company, Vimana Private Jets, caters to some of the industry’s most demanding clientele, who look to charter flights for business and pleasure.

Naran has focused his business on the most exclusive part of the charter market, betting that his high-touch service will still appeal to the kind of client who can justify renting a plane for a shopping trip to Hong Kong.

“Ameerh’s a well-connected individual, that’s for sure,” said Duncan Aviation’s Tim Barber. “The top of the market is still very healthy. You can’t get away from the fact that private jets are the only way to buy you time.”

The sums involved can be vast. Vimana booked a $4.2 million charter this month for a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, Naran said. That kind of price tag buys wings that even a U.S. president might envy: a jumbo jet for as many as 40 passengers featuring a master suite with its own bathroom. A more typical request — a flight between London and Los Angeles on a Gulfstream 650 — might set a client back $200,000.

And it isn’t just flights. Naran recalled an American family that wanted to attend the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil. As well arranging their flights, Vimana coordinated a complete redecoration of the floor of the Copacabana hotel they’d rented for the games to ensure artwork, furniture and wallpaper matched the family’s tastes. He’s flown clients to Brazil for a jaguar safari, arranged Vancouver nighttime skiing trips and shuttled celebrities from Havana to New York.

Naran consistently delivers, said a person who represents family offices and asked not to be identified to protect the identity of his clients. It’s his company and he ensures things get done, the person said.

It’s an all-consuming endeavor, where delays or even details like the color of the plane’s interior can cost you a customer. Naran, who’s based in London, hasn’t taken a vacation since 2009 and sets hourly alarms to rouse him during the night so he can deal with client requests. His office in Zimbabwe has a staff of six and never closes.

“In aviation at this level you have loyalty for as long as you’re giving a result,” Naran said in an interview in London, keeping a close eye on his frequently buzzing phone. “Make one mistake and you lose them.”

The high-wire act comes naturally to Naran. He broke into the plane-brokerage business in 2009 after using a contract offer from Halcyon Jets to land himself an agreement for exclusive representation rights for the Africa region with rival Blue Star Jets. One hitch: He had no experience.

“I admired his audacity,” said Blue Cube Aviation’s Joseph Amissah, who mentored Naran after he got in touch and explained he knew nothing about the industry. “I knew he had the natural ability and was just lacking the technical ability. Armed with that knowledge he could walk into any client and close.”

Naran has since parlayed his raw skills and network of contacts into other ventures. He lobbied Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Health to legalize sex toys and his company, Good Vibrations, secured the country’s sole license in 2015. Naran, who tried his hand at car racing until he was 26, said he’s raising 50 million euros ($57.9 million) for his own supercar brand, which he’s planning to unveil at the 2021 Geneva International Motor Show. With the entry-level model priced at 600,000 euros, he’s not planning to move downmarket.

For now he’s focused on meeting the demands of his airborne clients. As last year’s escapade in Zimbabwe shows, there’s little he won’t do for them.

“He’s been a loyal client for a long time,” Naran said of Mnangagwa. “I was just trying to help.”

Net Closing In On Top Executives Running The Black Market Money Exchange, Names Now Ready.

A crackdown against foreign currency dealers will be rolled out in a few days and is expected to leave top executives in banks, companies and State institutions behind bars, according to Business Times.

A list of the culprits is being kept a closely guarded secret ahead of the arrests.

Corporates which have been abusing their share of foreign currency retained on exports will also be dragged before the courts.

Electronic payments will be scrutinised closely by experts to trace all bad non-productive money being used for illegal foreign currency trade, to source.

Agents in the anti-corruption and various law enforcement units are closely watching a list of individuals whose charges are now believed to have been compiled and now awaiting execution.

“You will be shocked because this includes some top officials who have been charged with responsibilities in our system,” said a close source to the investigations without being drawn to divulge the names and designations of the culprits.

The move, said the source, was expected to go a long way towards abuse of foreign currency and externalisation.

A research by Government revealed that forex dealers on the streets are just but a drop in the ocean, getting supplies from big chefs in key Government institutions and corporates.

“These are just small fish and they are not material. The real foreign currency shenanigans are happening in air-conditioned offices and that is where we are going to in order to stop this,” added the source.

Currently, he said, businesses with access to foreign currency were selling hard cash on the black market to fund their expenses including salaries effectively increasing their profits.

“The businesses retail 70 percent of their foreign currency which they have been abusing. No one cares about that 70 percent, instead all eyes are on the 30 percent at the RBZ which they queue for,” the source said.

“We have to deal with corruption; there is no corruption that happens where there is no witness. Big fish will be caught in the next few days. Senior officials participating in the black market will go down. Don’t worry about these petty currency traders at Eastgate, they are just free injectors. Real transaction in currency or commoditisation of currency is happening in air-conditioned offices, bankers are involved and corporates involved. That’s where the story is,” added the source.

In a op-ed carried by state media today, President Mnangagwa said; “A great threat to our bid to stimulate productive activity in the economy comes by way of non-productive, speculative activities operating below the radar but involving millions in precious foreign currency and bond notes.

“These nefarious activities thrive on different electronic platforms. New measures will be pursued to stop such malpractices.

Corporates with hard cash and individuals, now, prefer a situation where the local dollar value continues tumbling such that they use less hard cash to fulfill their legal obligations in bond notes or RTGS.

The source said indications were that there was complicity on the part of responsible authorities to deal with illegal foreign currency dealers.

“If this economy felt black market is a cost why do we continue having it? We are moving figures not hard cash so these figures are moved electronically. As a result we have a mechanism to trace bad non-productive money to source which means there is complicity on the part of banks and telephone networks.”

PRE-MEDITATED MURDER: Embarrassing Turn For Mnangagwa At Killings Commission As Top ZANU PF Official Confesses Saying 1 August Was Actually “A Day For Chamisa Who Was Having Trouble Understanding The Election Results”

By Simba Chikanza| There was a deeply embarrassing turn at Emmerson Mnangagwa’s killings commission of inquiry yesterday when a party official confessed saying that 1 August (the day soldiers indiscrimminately shot at and killed several civilians as election results were delayed) was actually a pre meditated day already labelled “Chamisa Day” because he was having trouble understanding the election results.” The latter shocking words were uttered by party employee, Mr Peter Zimowa yesterday afternoon.

Zimowa let the black cat out of the bag while on the other side accusing Chamisa of causing the mass murders by the military on that fateful day.

The commission has the announced mandate of seeking to justify the military shootings and blame it on civilians. On the 2nd August, Mnangagwa’s deputy, Constantino Chiwenga told ZimEye that the more than 6 dead were killed by civilians he labelled MDC “hooligans”. He then verbally suggested that the LIVE bullets seen at the scene were produced by teargas. Mnangagwa himself also separately told reporters he blames the mass massacre on Nelson Chamisa’s party.

Meanwhile yesterday, there was more drama afterwards when Peter Zimowa exploded in laughter twice before the cameras while aparrently scoffing at his own statement . The embarrassing LIVE drama which was kept away from the public eye by the state owned broadcaster, ZBC, was beamed LIVE by ZimEye below:

LION’S TAIL: Chiwenga’s Military Flight Arrival | WHAT IS GOVT HIDING?

State Media – Emmerson Mnangagwa’s deputy, Constantino Chiwenga has returned home from South Africa where he was receiving medical attention.

He touched down at the Manyame Air Base at 1850 hours accompanied by his wife Marry, who had travelled for a routine review and Deputy Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr John Mangwiro.

Speaking to our Harare Bureau after VP Chiwenga’s arrival, Deputy Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet (Presidential Communications) who is also the Presidential spokesperson, Mr George Charamba said the vice president and his wife were in high spirits.

“He touched down at 1850 hours accompanied by his wife and the Deputy Minister of Health and Child Care,” said Mr Charamba.

“Very chatty and jovial both husband and wife hugging officers from his office. Obviously, the couple needs time to rally again. His Excellency the President spoke to the couple this evening (last night) and is set to visit them at their home tomorrow morning (today).”

Mr Charamba cleared the rumour on social media suggesting that Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Retired Lieutenant General Sibusiso Moyo also travelled to South Africa for medical attention.

He said Lt Gen Moyo received medical attention at a local hospital and only travelled to South Africa yesterday for a review.

“I also want to correct the impression that was in the market that Lt General SB Moyo was in South Africa,” said Mr Charamba.

“In fact, he was treated at a local hospital and only travelled to South Africa today (yesterday) for a review. He is expected back in a day’s time. It is understood that he had two operations meant to remove some growth in the stomach.”

After the White City Stadium bombing incident, Chiwenga did not receive thorough medical examination since it happened at the height of the July 30 harmonised elections campaign.
He soldiered on to complete the campaign process and after the elections there was pressure of forming the new Government and he could not receive medical attention.

Mr Charamba said Chiwenga also had a bullet lodged in his lung after he was injured around the Chiduku area in Hwedza during the liberation struggle, making it quite urgent to receive a thorough medical examination.

The Bulawayo bombing incident affected Chiwenga and his wife Marry, alongside Vice President Kembo Mohadi and several Government officials and security personnel.

Zim Warriors Firm Up After DRC Match

ZIMBABWE’S Warriors might not have reached the Promised Land last night but they put one foot into the 2019 African Cup of Nations finals after they were left to contend with a share of the spoils with the Democratic Republic of Congo at the National Sports Stadium last night.

The draw might have disappointed a home crowd that was ready to party into the night but it remained vital for Sunday Chidzambwa’s men as they took a step closer to the Dreamland.
It might not have been the kind of showing they had anticipated to put on at home but the Warriors still took the point and will fancy their chances of grinding another result on their next assignment away in Monrovia against Liberia next month.

The Warriors, who maintained their place at the top of Group G, got off to the best possible start to the game after midfield magician Khama Billiat put them ahead with under two minutes played.
But a defensive gaffe handed the visitors a lifeline when defender Teenage Hadebe turned the ball into his own nets under pressure to clear a dangerous cross into the box by Issama Mpeko.

Zimbabwe still lead the group with a three-point cushion after the group’s underdogs Liberia upset Congo Brazzaville 2-1 in Monrovia last night to take the two sides to four points apiece.

Chidzambwa told reporters after the game that although he had wanted maximum points to join the likes of Senegal, Madagascar, Tunisia, Egypt and hosts Cameroon who secured their places yesterday, he was happy that the Warriors are still in the right direction.

The four crucial points they picked from back to back ties against Group G top seeds DRC were crucial.

Zimbabwe beat DRC at the weekend in Kinshasa and the draw last night took their tally to eight points while DRC retained second place on five points.
“I think we all know that DRC are not a small team. They are a very big team and we did well to come away with three points in DRC.

“It doesn’t happen often there. They came here with a very good game plan but we had ours and, I can say, the plans drew. These things happen in football,” said Chidzambwa.

Zimbabwe, who were already missing captain Knowledge Musona and centre back Alec Mudimu through suspensions, were forced to make an 11th hour change to their starting team after hardworking defensive midfielder Danny Phiri injured himself during warm up.

They suffered a further blow with 30 minutes played as goalkeeper George Chigova limped out injured having gone down twice in pain on the night.

But they had already settled their nerves with Billiat getting his second goal of the campaign just as some in the estimated 45 000 crowd were still trickling into the giant stadium.

Billiat was at the right position and his first touch, when he bundled the ball to the back of the nets from close range, torched wild celebrations in the stands after getting to the end of a nicely threaded pass by Talent Chawapihwa, who had done all the hard work down the right flank.

Despite the gate charges having been raised to $5 for the cheapest ticket to meet the huge bill of playing the back to back encounters, the Zimbabwean fans responded in a big way to the passionate plea by Zifa to fill the giant stadium.

Zimbabwe thought they had doubled their lead in the 21st minute when Knox Mutizwa made an easy tap in following an exchange of passes between the captain of the day Ovidy Karuru and Billiat.
Instead it was the visitors who equalised two minutes later when Hadebe miscued his effort in a desperate attempt to steer the ball away from one of the Congolese dangermen Yannick Bolasie who was prowling in the box.

DRC were still dangerous with the aerial balls and they used their big frames to the maximum
advantage, bullying the home players at will but they could not get enough clear-cut chances.
Their fêted China-based forward Cedrick Bukambu almost stole it after Hadebe mistimed a bounce but substitute goalkeeper Edmore Sibanda did well to save a low shot from Benik Afobe.

“We knew it was going to be a very difficult game for us, we knew they were going to come at us. I think the biggest problem we had today is injuries and suspensions. We missed three key players but these things happen in football. Otherwise we were unlucky not to get three points.

“I thought the youngsters played well today. The young boy from FC Platinum (Kelvin Moyo) played well. It’s unfortunate we conceded an own goal, also these things happen in football but I am happy with the performance of the boys.

“We look forward to getting a good result in the next match, which is Liberia. I just hope we are going to play well,” said Chidzambwa.

DRC coach Florent Ibenge was disappointed by the draw as he had hoped to avenge the home loss they suffered in the first leg in Kinshasa.

DRC will face neighbours Congo away in Brazzaville in their next assignment while Zimbabwe travel to Liberia.

The Warriors will round off the campaign at home against Congo next year in March with DRC hosting Liberia.

ACCIDENT: 1 Killed, 5 Injured

NATIONAL NEWS

One person died while five others were injured in Bulawayo when a motorist who was part of a street drag racing trio lost control of his vehicle and rammed into a pirating Honda Fit in Malindela suburb.

The accident occurred on Monday morning at the intersection of Belloc Avenue and Burns Drive. Bulawayo police spokesperson Chief Inspector Precious Simango yesterday said Joshua Dean Leza (28) was drag racing with his two friends who were not named when he lost control of a Toyota Aristo sedan and rammed into the Honda Fit which had five passengers.

“As a result one person died upon admission to Mater Dei Hospital while five others suffered various degrees of injuries. The accused has been arrested and would be charged with culpable homicide,” said Chief Insp Simango.

She urged motorists to exercise caution on the roads as lives were needlessly being lost.
Bulawayo Chief Fire Officer Mr Richard Peterson said on impact the Honda Fit rolled three times before landing on its side.

“It is said that the driver of the Toyota Aristo sedan was racing with two of his friends when the accident occurred. He lost control of the vehicle which was travelling at a high speed, hitting a stationary Honda Fit which was at an intersection resulting in it rolling three times before landing on its side,” he said.

Mr Peterson said the five injured people were rushed to Mater Dei Hospital and United Bulawayo Hospitals.

He expressed concern over the trio’s reckless behaviour of drag racing on a busy city road.
Mr Peterson said it was saddening for the emergency department to attend and witness the loss of life due to accidents that could be avoided.

“What is it that they wanted to achieve besides what ended up happening? It does not make sense that they were racing in the city,” said Mr Peterson.

Chiwenga In High Spirits, Says George

Emmerson Mnangagwa’s deputy, Constantino Chiwenga has returned home from South Africa where he was receiving medical attention.

Govt Exposes Insincerity On Investigations Into August 1 Shootings – CiZC

Press Statement|The events that obtained today, October 16, 2018 when police and state security agents tried to block journalists from the public commission of inquiry into the shooting of civilians by the army on August 1, 2018 are regrettable to say the least.

It took intense lobbying for journalists to be finally allowed access into the conference room where the public inquiry was being held. This was after only journalists from the State media, had been allowed access.

The move further exposes the insincerity of the regime in as far as investigating the August 1 shootings and bringing the matter to a logical conclusion is concerned.

CiZC is concerned by the apparent attempt by the regime to try and sweep certain issues under the carpet by blocking the media from reporting on the work and activities of the Commission of Inquiry. Restricting media access to information points to a sinister motive on the part of the government.

As CiZC, we have already expressed our serious reservations concerning the local composition of the Commission of Inquiry.

With local members of the Commission of Inquiry largely being Zanu PF loyalists while some have highly questionable credentials, it seems the commission is aimed at pacifying the international community on the state recklessness that led to innocent souls being lost.

There is an apparent calculated move meant to absolve the state of wrong doing through this compromised Commission of Inquiry.

CiZC reiterates its position that by appointing a dubious Commission of Inquiry, President Mnangagwa has created parallel structures when the Constitution established Constitutional Bodies is Chapter 12 (Independent Commissions Supporting Democracy).

We are on record that the state ought to strengthen the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission to undertake work of this nature as provided for under Section 243 (1) of the Constitution.

CiZC maintains that just like in the past years, the blame for the murder of civilians on August 1 lies squarely with the government of Zimbabwe. Because of party-state conflation, ZANU PF has shown beyond any reasonable doubt that they are prepared to use state resources to cling to power and block public access to critical information on public/national investigations.

It also has to be noted that Zimbabwe has a history of organized killings of innocent civilians at the hands of the government In some cases, there hasn’t been any attempt to investigate the issues while in other cases, government has completely expressed ignorance or chosen to keep quite on the murder and torture of civilians.

Some of the cases that have never been openly investigated include the Gukurahundi massacres which resulted in the death of more than 20 000 civilians as well as the murder of nearly 300 opposition activists in the June 2008 run-off election.

It has to be noted also that since the formation of the country’s biggest opposition in 1999, the country has continued to witness torture and murder of opposition activists and these issues have largely been ignored by Zanu PF as violence and murder reign supreme among their tactics to retain power. If anything, Zanu PF, despite its claims of a peaceful and tolerant party, has not and can never be expected to dismantle its violence machinery.

It is justifiable to conclude that the August 1 shootings were pre-meditated especially taking into consideration sentiments from senior Zanu PF officials that President Mnangagwa will shoot for power and also that the army stands ready to block opposition rule in the country .

Given the above, it is reasonable again to conclude that the motive behind the shootings is well-known.

As CiZC, we would like to kindly remind President Mnangagwa that while the so called Commission of Inquiry is ‘at work’ his order for police to swiftly act and bring the murderers of two year old, Professor Lumbe who was killed in June 2018 in Glendale has not yielded any fruit.

Professor’s alleged murderers are known Zanu PF activists who killed the minor after his father left Zanu PF for the opposition.

Chaotic Scenes At The National Stadium As ZIFA Fails To Manage Ticketing

By Paul Nyathi|Confusion and chaos was the order of the day at the National Sports Stadium on Tuesday as soccer fans wrestled and jostled to gain entry into the giant stadium.

Somehow, not anticipating a huge turn out for the mid week game, the football administration body ZIFA did not open all the entry points into the stadium causing heavy congestion at the few entry points.

One wonders how ZIFA failed to realise that people were going to throng into the stadium almost at the same time as they made their way from work. Long queues with heavy pushing and shoving were the result of the poor planning by ZIFA.

In one of the entry points anti riot police had to call for reinforcement from officers manning other points as a disgruntled crowd pushed down the gate and forced their way into the stadium without paying.

When the police eventually managed to restrain free entry, thousands of fans had already made their way into the stadium.

Fans who spoke to ZimEye.com outside the stadium blasted ZIFA for the poor planning which saw some of them gain entry into the stadium half an hour after the start of the match.

“This is very poor planning by ZIFA, for a match of this magnitude,” said a fan who had brought his wife and kids for the match.

Other fans claimed that the confusion gave an opportunity for pickpockets and thieves to have access to people’s valuables such as cell phones and cash.

ZimEye.com could not immediately get a comment from ZIFA.

An estimated crowd of about 25000 people got access into the stadium while another considerable number was seen leaving the 40 000 capacity stadium without going in due to the congestion at the gates.

Prices Of Basic Commodities Remain High

Most basic commodities are back on the shelves despite still maintaining high prices which continue to present a burden on the consumers.

Most items, among them, day to day basics such as rice, cooking oil, washing powder, and meat have remained astronomically high beyond the reach of many ordinary Zimbabweans.

While most shops refused this crew access to film their shelves, the ZBC News established that most basic commodities have gone up by an average 80%.

A  kilogramme of beef went up by almost 100% and is now costing between $10 to $22 in some shops with a kilogramme of pork averaging $10.

Juice drinks were unavailable in most shops and where they were found, they were on promotion at $4.50 up from $2.60

A 2kg of rice is now costing at least $3.50 up from $2.10, showing an increase of 70%.

In this whole matrix, the consumer has remained burdened.

However, the price of mealie meal has remained unchanged at 4.39 per 10 kg pocket.

Despite assurances on improved supplies, cooking oil is still unavailable on the market probably highlighting the continued skeptism by the public.

Of worry however, were most large retail outlets that this news crew noticed were closed this Tuesday.

The price distortions arose following monetary and fiscal pronouncements which the government says are critical for the long term resurgence of the economy.

LATEST VIDEO – Herald Employee Doesn’t Even Mention LIVE Gunfire By ZNA Soldiers, Spends Entire Time Blaming Chamisa Supporters For Stoning Buildings On 1 August

Herald employee narrates his account:
On 1 August I got to Market Square at 11.30. When I disembarked from the kombi, I saw a group of people who were singing. These people were singing while walking along Mbuya Nehanda road coming to Market Square. As a person traveling to work, I normally take 15 min ffrom Mrket Square to Herald House, which is my work place.

I proceeded to Herald House I got there at 11.50. We assumed duty well, but when it was around 1420hrs, we heard voices of people who were singing. We went to 4th Floor trying to peep through so that we could see people who were singing. We then saw people we were able to identify as MDC youths wearing red t shirts who were singing political songs, coming from Jason Moyo getting into 2nd Street. They passed through the Herald House and went into Nelson Mandela proceeding to the former MDC headquarters Harvest House. They took a bit of time while they were there, maybe for about 15 to 20 minutes. After that they returned singing along 2nd Street, and they got into Jason Moyo going towards 4th street. In no time at all, we saw some smoke suggesting that something had been burnt. At that moment we then saw a group of people singing returning using Jason Moyo. We then gave our guards instructions to close the entrance door to 2nd Street.

QUESTION: From what you observed this group you saw returning, was it the same group that you had seen previously?

ANSWER: I do think so but I think when they returned the number had increased.

These people when they returned to herald House, they tried to enter into our 2nd Street entrance. They saw that we had locked our doors. They then started throwing stones… Two stones hit the 1st Floor and two big window panes were subsequently damaged. Others turned towards the George Silundika when they got there they tried to forcefully enter, however the doors had been locked. One of them picked a big stone which was across the road, using that big stone…I would like to believe that he thought the door would be …. (sic) When they realised that they could not open the road, the proceeded to …. They continued singing political songs while returning to Hrvest House. I observed that they then began sounding out what sounded like their political party slogans.

At 1545 hrs, we went to make a police report at a police post which is 1st Street. That is all that I can say which transpired on the 1st August at my workplace.

QUESTION: 2 questions – re you able to tell the commission what it is that they were singing?

ANSWER: Like what I said before, they were singing political songs.

QUESTION: Did you hear what they were singing?

ANSWER: Yes I heard some of the songs.

QUESTIONS: Are you able to tell the commission?

ANSWER: I am not in a position to sing what they were singing…

One of them was leading as they were singing , then others were also supporting as they were singing, so their song which I will quote in vernacular – “VachiDiki Tinoda Chamisa!”

QUESTION:

ANSWER: Some of them were visibly drunk especially those who were leading.

ANYTHING ELSE ELSE YOU MAY WANT TO SAY?

ANSWER: No none…

QUESTION: The Chair may have questions.

Rural Women Suffer From Serious Lack Of Social Security – UN

Correspondent|United Nations Women says rural women and girls worldwide face daily challenges of access to sustainable infrastructure, services and social protection.

In a statement, UN Women said, “The ubiquity of these challenges offers a large scope for change so that they no longer dominate and constrain women’s and girls’ lives.”

UN Women said rural women make up 43% of the agricultural labour force in developing countries, in work that is time- and labour-intensive, informal and poorly paid, with little social protection or income security.

“Child labour is prevalent in rural areas, with girls forming a significant part of the agricultural workforce. Women and girls are responsible for water collection in 80% of households without access to safe drinking water. This work is arduous and will only become harder as water shortages increase.

“The journey to collect water also poses safety risks. Without adequate water and sanitation facilities, women and girls are exposed to illness, violence and other risks to their safety. These deficits also hamper their ability to get a good education, earn an income and move around freely.”

UN Women further said fuel collection, which can take as much as five hours every day, and cooking with unclean fuels can result in long-term and even fatal health problems for women. “In countries that rely heavily on fuels like coal, wood, manure or crop waste for cooking, women account for 6 out of every 10 premature deaths through household air pollution.

“Sustainable infrastructure, services and social protection are central to progress. Measures to improve their delivery can bring both immediate relief and lifelong benefits. For instance, enhanced access to safe drinking water and sanitation brings gains in girls’ education when children stay longer in school, as well as increases in women’s paid work to generate goods and provide services. Extending the reach of water grids and continuous piped drinking water to rural communities is therefore an important priority with multiple benefits.”

UN Women noted that rural women’s civil society organizations, enterprises and cooperatives are critical in mobilizing rural women, supporting their voice, agency and representation in political and economic spheres, and enabling them to influence the decisions and institutions that affect their lives.

“Around the world, rural women have mobilized to secure water for irrigation and household use, and renewable energy for lighting their homes and powering small businesses. Resourcefully, rural women’s cooperatives are providing childcare services for and by their members. But small-scale solutions are not enough. They must be joined by large-scale institutional initiatives that invest in a different future, in which women and girls participate and benefit equally to men and boys.”

In marking International Day of Rural Women, UN Women urged the international community to work with rural women and girls everywhere and to invest in the sustainable infrastructure, services and social protection that can revolutionize their livelihoods, well-being and resilience.

Town Clerk Says Bulawayo Businesses Can’t Even Prepare Tender Documents Then Complain When Harare Takes Over

Bulawayo town clerk, Christopher Dube, has said local business people were failing to come up with competitive tenders, which leads to them losing out to Harare-based firms.

Companies in Bulawayo have accused the Bulawayo City Council (BCC) of deliberately awarding tenders to Harare-based firms.

But responding to questions from businesspeople who attended the local authority’s 2018 budget consultations recently, Dube said companies in the city had themselves to blame as their tenders were poor.

“We are a local authority and we should also, as much as possible, try and protect our local businesspeople because if we (don’t do) that, we will have businesses that benefit people from other local authorities,” Dube said.

“But, however, let me also indicate to you that tenders by their very nature are competitive. You will just have to compete and win. The biggest problem is that our local businesspeople, when it comes to tendering — their tenders, are very poor.”

Dube said it was not the local companies’ problem alone, but theirs as a local authority because “we have got a business desk; we also have a procurement management unit which should also reach out to the community to tell them what is expected of tenders so that you are able also to compete with other businesses from other local authorities.”

Dube said crying foul would not help the local businesspeople.

“It’s a competitive world. Crying at this age does not help us, but do corrective measures,” he said.

Dube said they intended to practice “segregation” during tendering to benefit local business people.

“The segregation I’m talking about here is that of tendering, to say if we are making a tender as local authority, we should actually give advantages for that tender to local business people,” he said.

“To say maybe if there is a difference of 5% in the value regardless of the 5% higher bid for the local tender, let’s take the local one but that needs to be done properly in terms of the law, have a policy of council adopted by a way of a resolution….once that is done then we can do it. That I promise you we will do.”

Malaba Closes Off Bulawayo Road To Have Peace In His Courts

By Paul Nyathi|At the insistence of Chief Justice Luke Malaba, Police and City of Bulawayo authorities have decided to close off the busy intersections at Samuel Parirenyatwa road with Herbert Chitepo and on Fort Streets everyday between 7:30am and 5:30pm.

The move to close the roads come after Chief Justice Malaba complained that there was too much noise and illegal trading from outside affecting the operations inside the courts.

Opening three new courtrooms at the Bulawayo High Court last week, the country’s top judge, demanded for the removal of Osiphatheleni, taxis and other people involved in activities around Tredgold Building which houses the Bulawayo Magistrates Courts.

The illegal money changers always play cat and mouse games with the police and have refused to vacate the environs of the courts, popularly known as the World Bank, due to the availability of cash in different currencies.

Malaba said it is “unhealthy” for such things to be carried out on the doorstep of the courts.

He at the time indicated that the Judiciary Services Commission (JSC) had already engaged the Bulawayo City Council in a quest to restore sanity on the court’s surroundings which engagement may have led to the shutting down of the street.

In his speech Malaba said council should find a permanent solution to the problem of osiphatheleni.

“May I also register the JSC’s appreciation of the support the Bulawayo City Council has given us. They have been cooperating right through with the JSC in seeking to find a permanent solution to the congestion outside Tredgold Building.

“We are concerned about it and we have expressed our concern and I’m certain that the Bulawayo City Council fathers will take further steps to correct the situation.

“It’s not a healthy situation to have illegal activities taking place just outside the fountain of justice” he said.

Hard Times By ZANU PF Economic Policies An Infringement To Human Rights

Statement By ZHRC|The Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC/Commission) is concerned about the fast deteriorating economic situation triggered by the recent monetary and fiscal policy pronouncements. Whilst austerity measures meant to transform the performance of the economy may be inevitable, due care and diligence must be exercised to protect the rights and well-being of especially the vulnerable members of society.

In particular, it is important to develop pro-poor policies including the setting up of effective social safety nets to ensure access to basic goods and services by all. Section 13 (1) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe implores the state and all institutions of government to ensure equitable development. Further, section 13 (2) requires government to involve the people in the formulation and implementation of development plans and programmes that affect them.

It is disturbing to note the following unfortunate developments with regards to the economic situation in Zimbabwe:

Discord and contradictions from the statements made by those in positions of authority. One government official states that the bond notes and the United States dollars are at par in terms of value while another official disputes this position thereby sending conflicting signals in the market.

Similarly, one communication says bond notes will be phased out soon and another says bond notes are here to stay. Policy inconsistencies have therefore led to uncertainties and the consequent speculative behaviour;
Encouraging the transacting public to embrace electronic payment platforms due to the cash crisis and then proceeding to levy a 2% tax.

Erosion of hard-earned incomes, savings, and pensions due to currency distortions and general uncertainties within the money market. This has caused untold suffering to fixed income earners like workers and pensioners;

Skewed priorities with regards to the allocation of scarce national resources. For example, basic essentials like health supplies are underfunded while government uses foreign currency to fund some privileged few who learn at foreign universities pursuing degree programmes offered at local universities;

Token and selective prosecution of perpetrators of economic crimes and corruption that are bleeding the economy and leading to untold suffering among ordinary citizens.

The above issues have led to violation of several rights manifesting through:

Rising inflation that has negatively affected productivity and eroded real incomes;

Shortages of most goods and services in the country, in particular, the shortage of essential medicines which has a direct impact on the right to life;
Emergence of the “black market” selling products at extortionate prices;
Shutting down of some businesses leading to loss of employment;

Outbreak of medieval diseases such as typhoid and cholera.

Zimbabwe, as a member State, has made commitments to work towards the attainment of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals whose key targets include; ending poverty in all its forms everywhere; promoting sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work for all; and reducing inequality within and among countries. Sustainable development must, therefore, aim to reduce inequality and suffering among all members of the Zimbabwean society.

The ZHRC urges the national leadership to take urgent steps to rescue the situation as well as protect the value of savings, incomes and pensions. Leaders must also be exemplary and reduce their own extravagance and not make the poor in society bear the bigger brunt and consequences of their policies and decisions.

Price Waterhouse Cooper Manager Commits Suicide Over Cheating Wife

A PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) employee died on Friday when he jumped from the 17th floor of their building in Nairobi’s Westlands.

A Pricewaterhouse Coopers manager has fallen to death from the 17th floor of its Delta House offices in Westalands, Nairobi.

The man identified as Stephen Mumbo (pictured) was an Assistant Manager of Executory and Forensic Investigations at the international audit firm.

PwC’s regional senior partner Peter Ngahu in an email to staff confirmed the death. “We are all in a state of shock and disbelief.

Our collective grief and sense of loss at this time is profound; but it cannot compare to what Steve’s family must be feeling.

Our hearts and prayers go out to them,” he said.

Kilimani OCPD Michael Muchiri said Mumbo died of injuries at Aga Khan Hospital. Know if news is factual and true.

He added that they were treating the matter as a suicide. Photos circulated on-line indicate the plunge was broken before ground zero which would explain why he died in hospital.

Chamisa Makes Constitutional Amendments Dissolves Two Provinces

MDC leader Nelson Chamisa has announced a reconfiguration of party structures, including doing away with Chitungwiza and Midlands South provinces to align it with the national architecture of 10 provinces.

Unlike the ruling Zanu PF party whose provinces reflect the country’s constitutional 10, the MDC structure has always had 12 provincial executives since its formation in 1999.

The party — then led by its founding president, the late Morgan Tsvangirai — split its Midlands province into two as well as adding Chitungwiza and some parts of Mashonaland West such as Mhondoro and Norton as an independent provincial executive.

However, since Chamisa took over the party’s leadership following Tsvangirai’s death in February, the party has been undergoing a radical metamorphosis.

MDC spokesperson Jacob Mafume said that the decision to revert to a ten provincial executive was a resolution of the party’s previous congress in 2014.

“The changes have to be done before our congress due next year because it was resolved at the last congress to do so,” Mafume said.

Mafume said the party had realised the necessity of having the party structures “work in tandem with the national architecture”.

“This will make it easier for the party to effectively administer the party and provided services to its supporters,” he said.

The development comes as the party is also considering coming up with a war veterans’ wing at its next congress.

Mafume said after Chamisa indicated that he was willing to accommodate former freedom fighters who defected to his party form former vice president Joice Mujuru’s National People’s Party (NPP) by setting up a wing to represent them, the MDC was now walking the talk.

“There was a suggestion when president (Nelson) Chamisa was welcoming NPP members, some of whom are war veterans, to the MDC that there is need to have a war veterans wing in the party,” he said.

“Obviously, it is a process. It is something that will be submitted to our organs to see how it can be worked out, the modalities and framework for a war veterans’ wing”.

The MDC recently welcomed back its former secretaries-general Welshman Ncube and Tendai Biti into the party after they were appointed vice president and deputy national chairperson respectively.

Former deputy national chairperson Morgen Komichi was also promoted to the position of the other of the three MDC vice presidents.

Ncube — who was among the MDC founding members before his acrimonious fallout with Tsvangirai in 2005 — was part of a grouping that contested the July 30 election under the MDC Alliance banner.

Biti broke ranks with Tsvangirai following the 2013 elections loss and formed the People’s Democratic Party.

Beef Going For $18 Per Kg, Is It Now Madness?

Concern has been raised over price hikes on meet and most beef products. The situation is even serious in Bulawayo where most butcheries are demanding only hard currency for payments.

While some basic commodities have reverted to normal prices, there has been a 100 percent increase on meat products within the central business district of Bulawayo.

The price of commercial meat grade which previously ranged between $6 to $8 has been increased to around $12 and $15.
A butchery situated along 11th Avenue and Herbert Chitepo is charging $17 per kilogramme for t-bone meat while one has to fork out $18 per kilogramme for rump on bone.

To worsen the situation, the butcheries are only accepting transaction on hard cash.

Livestock Farmers Union Chairperson, Mr Sifiso Sibanda, who is also National Ambassador of Livestock Farmers castigated owners of abattoirs for paying livestock farmers lower prices which are not competitive.

“For the first time in history, the government through the command livestock set a precedent by buying a heifer for $1200 where as in the past, abattoirs were paying less. The revival of the Cold Storage Commission (CSC) which is the only abattoir certified by the Europe Union (EU) will enhance livestock production within the country. Actually, the abattoirs are not paying for offal but they are increasing meat price,” he said.

Over the past week, prices of basic commodities had increased but a self correction process began, leading to most commodities reverting back to their normal prices.

Pasuwa Gets Malawi Coaching Job

Correspondent|Zimbabwean coach Callisto Pasuwa has agreed personal terms with Malawi football powerhouse Nyasa Big Bullets and become the new coach for the league leaders.

Pasuwa, who also played and was linked with a coaching role at Be Forward Wanderers early this year ahead of their CAF Champions League participation , has been in negotiations with Bullets since coach Rodgers Yasin and his deputy Elias Kananji sacking last week and it is understood an agreement is now in place for the former Zimbabwe international to take charge at People’s Team.

He is yet to sign the contract which he has taken to his lawyers in Zimbabwe for their perusal.

Bullets chief executive officer Fleetwood Haiya said the club had short-listed Pasuwa and Rahman Gumbo—both former Zimbabwe Warriors’ coaches for interviews.

Apart from guiding Zimbabwe giants Dynamos FC to four successive Premier League titles, Pasuwa also led the Warriors to qualify for 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).

Bullets fired Yasin and Kananji citing poor performance and failing to meet their targets.

Chamisa To Wrestle Mutoko North Constituency From ZANU PF

By Paul Nyathi|The Nelson Chamisa led MDC Alliance candidate for the Mutoko North by election is amongst the three candidates cleared by the nomination court to contest in the election set for November 24.

The Nomination Court set at the Magistrates’ Court in Marondera on Friday.

Since more than one candidate was duly nominated, the by-election will be held on 24 November 2018, in accordance with subsection 17(c) of the section 46 of the Electoral Act (chapter 2:13) as read with the Presidential Proclamation number 7 of 2018.

The candidates are Edson Mugoma of NCA Party, Boniface Mushore of the MDC-Alliance and Rambidzai Nyabote of ZANU-PF party. The right and opportunity to be elected was afforded to the three candidates without any noticeable legal and administrative barriers.

All three candidate submitted their nomination papers on 12 October, the day which the Nomination Court sat, yet the Electoral Law allows them to submit their papers up to five days before the date when the Nomination Court sits.

The environment during which candidates filed their nomination papers was calm and peaceful.

The MDC declared that it will participate in all the by elections that will come up in the country in the run up to the 2023 elections.

The opposotion party seeks to win as many of the by elections in order to cut the ZANU PF two thirds parliament majority which the ruling party may lose if it loses just two seats in the by elections.

The by-election came up after the elevation of incumbent legislator, Marble Chinomona, to President of Senate.

Chinomona won the right to represent Mutoko North in the July 30 harmonised elections before being elected Senate President.

She was elevated to be Senate President after she beat MDC-Alliance candidate Morgen Komichi.

Chiwenga Takes With Him Deputy Minister of Health To SA Hospital As Government Continues to Spend Big on Foreign Medical Trips

Jane Mlambo| Deputy Chief Secretary in the Office of the President and Cabinet, George Charamba has exposed how government continues to spend big on foreign medical trips after announcing that the ailing Vice President Constantino Chiwenga and his celebrity wife Mary had gone to South Africa with Deputy Minister of Health and Child Care, John Mangwiro.

“Equally, I also spoke to them this morning (yesterday) and besides they went with Dr John Mangwiro who is the Health and Child Care Deputy Minister just to ensure that there is a Government medical official in attendance. Both General Chiwenga and Amai Chiwenga are in good health,” said Charamba in an interview with the state media.

This has been the situation with the former President Mr Robert Mugabe who often flew with a big delegation on his trips to Singapore and it seems the Emmerson Mnangagwa administration has adopted the same policies.

Government officials are known for their love for foreign trips which rakes in a lot of money in allowances and it appears Mangwiro has had his first bite thanks to Chiwenga and wife.

15 000 Police Officers To Be Laid Off, 50 Year Olds And Above To Go First

Correspondent|The cash-strapped Zimbabwe government will, from this month, implement serious economic reforms aimed at cutting the wage bill by reducing the Zimbabwe Republic Police workforce from 50 000 to 35 000 officers, the Mail and Telegraph has heard.

Police sources said plans are underway to retire all the officers who are 50 years and above beginning this month end.

“People will soon receive what the officers are calling love letters from Commissioner General Godwin Matanga.

“The love letters are notices of retirement for those who have 50 years and above. ZRP has been instructed to reduce its workforce from 50 000 to 35 000,” said the source.

Finance minister Mthuli Ncube, in his Transitional Stabilisation Programme report said government should cut its wage bill by $200 million next year and by another $130 million in 2020.

The civil service wage bill currently consumes 90 % of government expenditure leaving only 10% to develop the infrastructure that the country badly needs to attract investors and to develop the country into a middle income economy by 2030.

This year’s wage bill is expected be about $4,5 billion against a budgeted $3,3 billion.

Source said the first phase will be to retire all those with 50 years and above then move to the second stage where officers who have served for 20 years will be asked to retire.

In January government retired several senior officers and later reversed the move after lack of political will to shake up the police force days after the military intervention that led to the retirement of former president Robert Mugabe.

Three Top Stars Out Of Warriors Clash With DRC, Will The Team Make It?

AFTER the sensational heroics on Saturday when Zimbabwe pulled off the most stunning of upsets to beat highly fancied Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in their Kinshasa fortress, the Warriors will need to put yet another perfect performance when the two teams clash again at the National Sports Stadium this evening.

Kick-off of this Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) Group G reverse fixture is 7pm local time, and Zifa has pegged the cheapest ticket for the match at $5.

Sunday Chidzambga’s men put in the doughtiest of defensive performances to pull off the shock 2-1 victory at a packed 80 000 seat Martyrs Stadium, in a show that left the whole continent in awe.

The victory, that came in extraordinary fashion, and achieved through memorable goals by the returning Ronald Pfumbidzai and captain Knowledge Musona, put the Warriors on the brink of qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations finals next year.

Should the Warriors pull another Houdini Act in front of the expected huge crowd, the team will book their ticket to the continent’s premier football competition, if Congo Brazzaville beat or draw against Liberia in the other Group G match in Paynesville tonight.

Warriors captain Ovidy Karuru, standing in for the suspended Musona, who picked a red card in the Kinshasa rumble, is happy that the team managed to execute the plan well away to outsmart this very talented DRC side.

But he is aware of the huge task that awaits his boys when they troop into the giant stadium, to face a desperate and a retaliating visitor, whose whole campaign hinges on getting a good result tonight.

“We all know they are here for revenge, but it’s up to us as the Warriors to face the challenge. It has been long since we lost at home so we are confident of another good performance. DRC is disappointed of course by the weekend result, but we are ready to face them, to take on the task at hand,” Karuru said.

“We just have to continue from where we left although we won’t have our inspirational captain for the game, but I’m sure those who are available can do the job. What is critical is to get a result. Now is not the time to look at names, but to unite as a team. We have to play and fight for each other, and if we can do that, we can pull it off. We will need to focus from the first minute until the end.”

The midfielder was introduced from the bench in Kinshasa, but is expected to start tonight due to suspensions in the squad, with three regular players set to miss the game after picking yellow cards on Saturday.

Besides Musona, the Warriors will be without goalkeeper George Chigova and defender Alec Mudimu, who picked their second yellow cards against DRC, ruling them out of this match.

Thus, Chidzambga will be forced to make major changes to the team that started the last game. Edmore Sibanda is expected to slot in for Chigova, while defensive midfielder Marshall Munetsi, who has played in central defence for his club Orlando Pirates, is likely to be picked to replace Mudimu ahead of Kevin Moyo and Bryan Madzokere.

“I’m up for the challenge if called. There is always pressure when it comes to the national team, especially after our win. There is pressure for us to continue from where we left, but if the supporters can come in numbers like the way it was in DRC, our job will be much easier. We have players in the team who thrive when there are supporters. The nation should come and rally behind us. We have to do this again, together,” Karuru said.

“This is a team that is desperate, so they will come at us so we will need to get a goal as quickly as possible. That was the plan in DRC and we knew if we do that, they will open up and we will get another goal. We will need to score, but at the same time keep our defensive shape.”

Pfumbidzai, who scored a superb volley on the turn from a Khama Billiat free kick to give the Warriors the lead in Kinshasa, is champing to the beat. He wants the team to finish off the job.

“We know they will come all out to get three points, so we will have to contain them. Knowing that a win can give us qualification is giving motivation. We need to do this like yesterday. Everyone is geared up. We don’t need to relax because we won away, we just have to do the same way we did out there. We have to take that attitude to this match,” Pfumbidzai said.

The left back’s goal celebrations captivated the whole country, sitting all his other teammates and appeared to be giving them a lesson.

“When I scored, yeah, that moment I can’t explain the excitement. And then the goal celebration, I always do that.

Most people thought I was joking around, but I was actually telling the other players what to do next. That was a team talk on the field of play. For a moment, I took Sunday’s job (chuckles). I said we have scored so these guys will come at us even more, so lets keep focussed. I told them not to panic.”

Zimbabwe top the group table with seven points, three more than DRC and Congo Brazzaville, while Liberia is on one point.

The group winner and runners up qualify for the Afcon finals so victory for Zimbabwe and a draw or Congo Brazzaville victory in Liberia will see the Warriors book their place, leaving DRC and their neighbours to battle for the other slot.

Zim At Risk As Zambia Train Health Workers to Tackle Ebola

Health workers in Zambia are training to deal with Ebola amid fears it will spread from the neighbouring Democratic Republic of the Congo.

More than 100 people in DRC have died from the contagious fever since the most recent outbreak began at the start of August.

Now Zambia, which borders the stricken country, is preparing in case it has to fight its own deadly epidemic.

Staff are learning how to recognise signs of Ebola, how to treat patients and how to stop the infection spreading in case it is transmitted by travellers.

Zambia borders Democratic Republic of the Congo, where 106 people have died from Ebola since the current outbreak began at the beginning of August – Zambian health officials are now being trained how to spot, treat and prevent the spread of the virus
The government is focusing on regions of the country which are closest to DRC, where a now months-long outbreak has killed 106 people.

Ebola has killed almost two thirds (65 per cent) of the 162 people confirmed to have had it since the DRC’s epidemic began on August 1, SciDev.Net reported.

And fears surrounding the disease have been heightened since a devastating outbreak in western Africa in 2014 killed more than 11,000 people.

‘We do not want a repeat of the tragedy that hit the Western part of our continent in 2014,’ said Victor Mukonka, the director of the Zambia National Public Health Institute.

‘Having trained rapid response teams at all levels assures capacity for any community, and we encourage all states to take up this strategy.’

Some 216 health workers were trained in the country’s north-western provinces in September, with another 86 in the north in August.

Doctors, nurses, environmental and public health officers, pharmacists and laboratory staff have all been included in the education programme.

They are taught how to explain the infection to local people, how to collect and transport specimens for testing, and how to prevent the virus spreading.

The programme is designed to give workers the ability to set up a rapid response in the event of Ebola beginning to spread.

This could happen if the virus was brought into the country by a traveller or a refugee from military fighting in the DRC.

Around 50,000 people fleeing violence in the country are thought to have travelled to Zambia, according to the United Nations.
Both Zambia and the DRC should work together to monitor the virus and movement of people across the border, said Nathan Bakyaita, the World Health Organization representative for Zambia.

The public health institute’s Mr Mukonka told SciDev.Net: ‘It is important that Africa takes ownership and leads in addressing matters of health and other determinants affecting the continent.’

Mangudya Lets Cat Out Of The Bag, Big Persons Behind The Foreign Currency Black Market

By Paul Nyathi|Governor of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe John Mangudya has finally let the cat out of the bag confirming that a secret group of high profile persons is running the country’s black market money exchange.

In an update on the state of the economy, Mnangagwa yesterday warned the black market had become a threat to national security, which demands a “bold response”.

“Those figures of foreign currency being bought or sold for up to six times its value were computer-generate,” said Mangudya in reference to last week’s huge rise of the US Dollar rate that took the green buck to six times the local Bond Note.

“The people moving money onto the black market, the people behind the money changers are not your ordinary Zimbabweans,” he added.

An angry Magudya he went on to question the competence of the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) and the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) in failing to catch these “influential people”.

“These are influential people with access to huge sums of cash. It has been discovered that one character has been pushing onto the black market as much as $48 million in foreign currency. This person has access to cash and it is difficult to understand how this could have happened without the knowledge of the CIO, the FIU, the police as well as the commercial bank.”

“The meeting called by the President could trigger a nasty fall-out and there is already gnashing of teeth. Some people have a lot of explaining to do and heads will roll…The bank does not participate in parallel market practices…we have been investigating and if you have any information, please bring it to us.”

“Whilst I don’t really know what part the CIO has to play in stemming black markets, FIU seem to have been incompetent on this score (that’s if it’s ever competent at all). Since cash burning resurrected a couple of years ago just a measly number of moneychangers have been arrested for illegal money changing activities. Yet in the Central Business District, I see money changers standing at corners with a bunch of monies.”

I need not even talk about the police, the police are ever-present in town chasing vendors, kombies but I have never seen money changers being chased. No wonder people develop some conspiracy theories that elite people are running the black market.

Beyond the due diligence that banks conduct through their Know-Your-Customer policy, I don’t think banks have any other way of stemming black markets. That’s for FIU and the police. Surely if banks are not practicing due diligence within its scope, the RBZ would notice it under its Bank Supervision function, isn’t it? Unless the RBZ itself is not competent and just playing the blame game.

Shock As Government Health Centres Begin Selling ARVs

Mutare city health facilities are charging a US$3 fee for HIV anti-retroviral drugs (ART) which should be dispensed free at the clinics.

For people living with HIV, antiretroviral drugs are an assurance of life and putting any restrictive measures around their access is equally framing restrictions on their survival.

Such are the sentiments by members of the Zimbabwe National Network for People Living with HIV (ZNNP+) following development in which health facilities in Mutare demanding hard currency on collection of the life saving drugs.

The US$3 collection fee per person has seen many ART patients defaulting drug collection as they cannot afford to pay.

ZNNP+ Manicaland Provincial Coordinator, Mr Moses Chananuka said the move by the city clinics is retrogressive to gains attained so far.

“The city health clinics are requesting the payment of US$3 per patient regardless of age and number of people collecting from the same household. This has put a financial strain on households where most or all family members are on ART,” he said.

Mr Chananuka added that the new move is a drawback to measures such as Community ART Refill groups that had been put in place to ease the burden of the collection of the drugs.

“The Community ART Refill groups were put in place to reduce the cost of travelling to collect the drugs as one person would be responsible for the collection of drugs for at least 10 people. This has been fruitless in the city referral centres as the user fee is still being charged on group members in absentia,” Mr Chananuka said.

Mutare City Health Director, Dr Anthony Mutara said council is in the process of reviewing the fee as it prepares for the 2019 budget.

“We are currently in the process of reviewing our tariffs as we prepare for the 2019 budget. The issue of the user fees on the collection of ART treatment has been brought to our attention and most likely there is going to be a reduction in the fee for the coming year,” he said.

Mutare city health institutions remain the only ones in the province charging these fees as most councils have already scrapped off the charge.

Patients have resorted to out of town clinics such as Zimunya to collect their treatment.

An estimated 10 000 people in Sakubva and 3 000 in Dangamvura are living with HIV and need the life saving drugs.

Shocking! Air Hostess Falls Out Of Plane, Seriously Injured

A flight attendant fell out of an Air India plane while trying to close its door on Monday, the airline said, reportedly breaking her leg when she landed on the tarmac.

The accident occurred at Mumbai’s international airport as the crew were getting ready to welcome passengers aboard the New Delhi-bound flight.

“The cabin crew member fell off while closing the back door of the Boeing 777 and sustained injuries on Monday morning,” Pravin Bhatnagar, a senior manager at Air India, told AFP.

“She is receiving treatment in hospital. An investigation will be carried out to determine the exact cause of the incident.”

Indian media reports said the woman, a 52-year-old, was conscious but had leg fractures.

A spokesperson for Nanavati Hospital, where the flight attendant was taken, was not immediately available for comment when contacted by AFP.

Debt-laden Air India has been hit by a string of technical glitches and other embarrassing incidents, including staff turning up late for flights, over the years.

The state carrier last week grounded two pilots after one of its jets carrying 136 people hit an airport perimeter wall on take-off and then flew for almost four hours with a damaged body before landing safely.

In December 2015 a technician working for Air India died after being sucked into a jet engine as the plane pushed back for take-off at Mumbai airport.

The tragedy happened when the co-pilot mistook a signal from ground staff and started the engine.

Last month an Indian passenger sparked panic in mid-air when he tried to open a plane door, apparently mistaking it for the toilet.

The man, who according to media reports was a first-time flyer, was travelling on a GoAir flight from New Dehli to Patna.

Chamisa, Mnangagwa Cannot Find Each Other As Talks Stall

President Emmerson Mnangagwa and opposition MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa have taken hardline stances to political engagement, which has stalled progress towards interparty dialogue seen as critical to pulling the southern African nation out of international isolation and launching economic recovery, the Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) has said.

ZCC has been trying to bring Mnangagwa and Chamisa, who were the main contenders in the July 30 poll, to the negotiating table, but despite both of them insisting they were ready to dialogue, they remain far apart.
Chamisa has rejected Mnangagwa’s victory despite the Constitutional Court (ConCourt) throwing out his petition challenging the result and has since maintained that he won the election, frequently calling his rival “illegitimate”.

Mnangagwa has reportedly offered an olive branch to his nemesis, saying he has “a vital role to perform in Zimbabwe’s future” and proposed an official Westminster style “Leader of Opposition” post in Parliament for his rival to be part of the national discourse, but insists that Chamisa must recognise his Presidency.

ZCC secretary-general Kenneth Mtata yesterday said none of the parties seemed ready to compromise.

“Our hope is that political expediency will not jeopardise the possibility of fruitful dialogue. The challenges are not secret at all. They are open for everyone. The first issue is that the MDC (Alliance) leader has not yet accepted the officially announced results of the election, even after the verdict of the ConCourt,” Mtata said.

The ZCC secretary-general suggested Chamisa was held up by a need to appease his supporters, while Mnangagwa wanted recognition from the opposition leader first before any talks could begin.

“There are challenges for him (Chamisa) to accept the result because it has been his rallying cry for his followers. But this is the problem for Mnangagwa, who says he cannot go into dialogue with Chamisa if he doesn’t recognise him as President,” Mtata told NewsDay.

Zanu PF spokesperson Simon Khaya Moyo said the ruling party did not have an appetite for the dialogue.

“Elections were held and (are) gone, and the opposition challenged the elections, but the Constitutional Court endorsed them (polls).

What is the issue now? Let’s look ahead in terms of our economic development, that is the challenge we are facing, the stabilisation of the economy in terms of our Vision 2030,” Khaya Moyo said, adding Zanu PF was already setting its sights on the 2023 elections.

Chamisa has submitted five demands, including one suggesting that Mnangagwa should cede power to him.

The MDC leader’s spokesperson, Nkululeko Sibanda, yesterday maintained his boss’ stance.

“The president still says his doors are open for dialogue, and he has a five-point plan, which must be part of any dialogue,” he said, without revealing whether or not there was progress on the talks.

Mtata, however, said ZCC’s agenda was to find a common post-election national narrative in the country as well as to find a shared understanding of the role of the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament proposed by Mnangagwa.

“This is a ministry of the church. We were given that ministry of reconciliation in the Bible, and we believe this is a core mandate of the church and this is the reason why we won’t give up. On the other hand, I can say no, because we haven’t moved fast enough.”

While Zanu PF hawks insist Mnangagwa has a clear mandate from Zimbabweans to govern, Mtata suggested elections alone could be an impediment to nation-building.

“The national question is always resolved by dialogue in Zimbabwe. Anyone who thinks only elections can make things right will have to check again because national questions cannot be resolved by a process that produces winners and losers, but by courageous people who choose to forgo their personal advantages and personal gains to seek the common good at a dialogue table,” he said.

“This is true in the past, present and future. If there are people who are waiting for the national question to be resolved by elections, then they can wait forever.”

Zimbabwe is gripped by a worsening cash crisis and escalating shortages of some basic products.

Desperate Zim Govt Moves to Ban Use Of Jerry Cans to Contain Fuel Hoarding

Jane Mlambo| Despite assurance by government that the country has adequate fuel stocks, minister of Energy and Power development, Joram Gumbo has threatened to withdraw licenses of service stations that accept jerry cans from motorists, raising questions on the exact situation with regards to fuel supply in the country.

Gumbo told The Chronicle that government was concerned with the uncouth practices in the supply of fuel by some unscrupulous service stations and individuals, who continue to accelerate perceived shortages countrywide.

“Those using tanks, drums and jerry cans all, those forms of containers should stop and we are sending out inspectors and the Zimbabwe Republic Police and if anybody is going to be found maybe overcharging or using drums might have their licences withdrawn. We are not going to allow that,” said Dr Gumbo.

He also said Government would not hesitate to crack the whip on errant oil companies that are demanding motorists to pay for fuel in foreign currency.

“We also had to warn some of the companies that we heard were demanding forex for fuel because it’s not their responsibility because the forex that we use to buy fuel from Msasa or Mabvuku or international companies is sourced by Government. So, there is no point in an individual company demanding payment for fuel in foreign currency and some of them were saying they were only serving their clients with coupons from their companies that should not happen,” said Dr Gumbo.

If there is adequate fuel as noted by Gumbo why move to limit people. Is it in line with free market economic?

Bulawayo Unemployment Crisis Revealed As Thousands Throng Construction Site For Menial Jobs

POLICE were called to restore order when violence broke out after more than 8 000 job seekers thronged the Egodini Mall project site in Bulawayo yesterday for recruitment for the first phase of the project.

Some people started queuing at the contact centre as early as 4AM in a bid to be recruited under phase one of the $60 million project to be completed in November 2019.

Terracotta Private Limited director Mr Thulani Moyo said they were overwhelmed by the number of people who responded to their call for jobs and they had to suspend giving out forms for people to apply after violence broke out.

People frustrated with the process started the violence.

“So many people came, more than we had prepared for. We just need about 400 people for the first phase but so far close to 8 000 people have gathered here,” he said in an interview in the morning.

Addressing journalists at a press conference in the afternoon after the process was halted, Mr Moyo applauded the police for a sterling job in controlling the crowds.

“Upon opening the contact centre, we got an overwhelming response from people who came to the centre to collect application forms to register in the database.

“Fortunately, we had support from the police and other security clusters to try and control people,” said Mr Moyo.

He said they had to abort the form distribution process after violence erupted as some people were attacking those that had received forms.

“Job seekers were being attacked by other people who were snatching application forms from them.

“We were advised by the police to stop issuing the forms as it looked like those who got them were not safe as they were being attacked for them,” Mr Moyo said.

“In terms of employment process, we were ready and hoping that some people would collect application forms, attach supporting documents and submit.
We anticipated that some people would come today, some tomorrow, and the day after for the rest of these 30 days.

“However, maybe due to excitement about the project, a lot of people just came today. Everyone wanted to get a form today.”

He said people can start collecting the forms from today to November 30 and then come back to the contact centre for submission.

“If you come and see there is a queue and it is too long, there is no need to join it, you can come back the following day. We can take 300 – 350 applications each day for registrations,” Mr Moyo said.

He said forms were available at the contact centre for free although some youths were selling copies for 50 cents each.

“We are distributing forms for free but if you want to buy it on the streets, it is ok, you can buy it from someone who is photocopying the form and selling it on the streets. That is a private arrangement,” said Mr Moyo.

Actual construction works are expected to begin soon after completion of the registration process.

The long-awaited project is being implemented at an estimated cost of $60 million although final budget figures are likely to be reviewed considering the volatile macro-economic climate.

Fuel Purchase In Jerry Cans To Be Banned Immediately

GOVERNMENT will withdraw licences for fuel service stations found promoting acts of hoarding and overcharging of petroleum products thereby creating artificial shortages, a Cabinet Minister has said.

Energy and Power Development Minister, Dr Joram Gumbo, said in an interview at the weekend that Government has noted with concern uncouth practices in the supply of fuel by some unscrupulous service stations and individuals, who continue to accelerate perceived shortages countrywide.

He said in an effort to curb hoarding his ministry would forthwith issue a directive to service stations to stop serving individuals using any form of containers.

He said the Ministry held talks with the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe to consider increasing its foreign currency allocation for the purchase of fuel by oil companies.

“There are enough stocks of fuel, we have not run out. There is sufficient fuel in the country but for us to access that fuel we need forex and the demand for fuel caught everyone by surprise. So, what we have been doing for now is negotiate with RBZ that they can increase the fuel allocation they give to companies . . . my (ministry) officials and officials from RBZ met . . . and the indication is that RBZ has agreed and are going to consider increasing the allocation, which they give to oil companies,” said Dr Gumbo.

He also said in the meeting he held with oil companies it was suggested that RBZ should consider raising foreign currency allocation to around $30 to $35 million per week up from the $20 million it was previously allocating.

To ensure improved deliveries the Environmental Management Agency has given oil companies a reprieve to move fuel during the night. Energy and Power Development permanent secretary Engineer Gloria Magombo reiterated that the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (Zera) has intensified monitoring of fuel service stations in a bid to ensure efficient supplies to motorists.

“Zera is also monitoring compliance in the market and general distribution,” she said.

Eng Magombo however, said the public should refrain from panic buying as it was causing artificial shortages. She also urged motorists to desist from buying fuel from the black market as doing so might be hazardous to their vehicles.

DZ Boy Drowns in Disused Pit

Disaster struck in Dzivarasekwa Extension, Harare after a 16 year old boy drowned in a disused pit, one of many such massive craters created as a result of brick moulding activities in the area.

Tinashe Mlambo, a form 3 student at Corridors of Hope Academy has become the latest statistical figure to lose life through human carelessness after he drowned in a pit created after massive environmental degradation, a remnant effect of brick moulding.

Facts are that this Sunday, Tinashe in the company of seven others went to the disused pits which are now filled with water for a swimming adventure where he dived into the blue pool and sadly could not make it out.

After spending the night missing, Police Sub Aqua Unit was called in this morning and in no time retrieved the body of the 16 year old.

Assistant Inspector Nicholas Marekwa of Sub Aqua Unit Chikurubi, warned people in the area to stay away from the site.

The area stretching for almost 3 kilometers is littered by deep gullies and observers have called on those creating the dangerous pits to reclaim or fence off the area to avoid further risks to human and domestic animals.

Chiwenga Regrets The Nov Coup That Propped ED To Presidency – Dube

By Farai D Hove| Emmerson Mnangagwa’s deputy, Constantino Chiwenga regrets the day he carried out the coup for Mnangagwa’s gain last year, Mr Israel Dube says.

Writing during the week, Mr Dube said, no one links Chiwenga’s failing health to the 2017 military coup than Chiwenga himself. In his own words he curses the day he staged a coup in Zimbabwe, adds Dube.

He then quotes Chiwenga saying “today we want to set the record straight on one issue now that journalists are here. When we did our operation to normalise things in the country, I was with General (Phillip Valerio) Sibanda and many others, they are brave men indeed…”

The MLO Secretary for Information and Public Affairs begins his piece saying, Rtd General Sibusiso Moyo played the role of coup Spokesman, known for sweet talking the world into believing that an obvious “coup d’etat” was just a corruption busting campaign targeting criminals surrounding former President Robert Mugabe, was airlifted to South Africa too, but earlier last month, for treatment of a serious half explained illness. He has not been seen in public since he is still detained in a private South African hospital. He was rewarded with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a share of spoils of the coup.

No one links his failing health to the 2017 military coup than Chiwenga himself. In his own words he curses the day he staged a coup in Zimbabwe. “Today we want to set the record straight on one issue now that journalists are here. When we did our operation to normalise things in the country, I was with General (Phillip Valerio) Sibanda and many others, they are brave men indeed.

“We also informed vaMatanga (then Deputy Commissioner General of police but now Commissioner General) about the plan, it was during that time that I fell ill. I had this skin disease (nhuta) that affected my whole body from beneath my feet to my back and the journalists started saying I was using skin lightening creams but that was not the case. I was sick.

“I have decided to talk about it because that is what you see but you should know that everything that happens comes with a price.”

The sickness of two main coup architects at the same time is too much of a coincidence to be ignored by people with functional brains.

There is no honour or trust among thieves especially after a successful coup d’etat. Your best friend becomes your worst enemy as there is too much at stake. As we opined before the post coup era is the time to watch your back, that is if you are a player participating in dirty political games. Here, there are no sacred cows.

It is at this crucial stage one suddenly discovers that are better surrounded by blameless angels than experienced coup plotters with fresh blood stains of their former President on their hands.

As cause for more concern, disturbing reports of two centers of power in Zanupf and government have been flying all over. It makes sense for Emmerson Mnangagwa to remove stumbling blocks that stand on his way of assuming total power to be in full control of Zanu pf and government. Even if it means getting rid of his best Cdes and fellow coup plotters.

The one who strikes first wins. Strike or be rattled! That is the game in the criminal worlds.

But there are always consequences, both intended and unintended. In this case how is the army going to react to news of death of their commanders turned politicians?

How is the public of Zimbabwe together with neighbouring countries and the world going to react? How about Matabeles who have suffered immensely at the hands of Zimbabwe successive governments, what route are they going to take? When two bulls lock horns its the grass that suffers.

Talking in terms of security, this is a recipe for the second coup. The army played a crucial role in this bloody coup business. We do not imagine them sitting idle in the barracks while their leaders are brutally eliminated from highest echelons of power through death.

For Matabeles this would be a bonus index provided by the Almighty God that should be welcomed and grabbed with both hands. We should use all means available to break the yoke of oppression under the shona supremacist government.

The end justifies the means.

Another Accident: ZUPCO Buses Crush Into Each Other

Twenty six people were injured when two Zupco buses were involved in a head-on collision at the 91KM peg along the Binga-Cross Dete Road.

The injured were rushed to Binga District Hospital where they are receiving treatment. The incident occurred at around 1PM last Friday at the Siachilaba Bridge.

Matabeleland North police spokesperson Chief Inspector Siphiwe Makonese confirmed the accident.
“I can confirm we received a report of a road accident that occurred at the 91KM peg along Binga-Cross Dete Road on Friday afternoon.

“The first party, Tanaka Nyeka, was driving towards Binga with 28 passengers on board and failed to give way to oncoming traffic. Upon approaching the bridge, he failed to give way to oncoming traffic resulting in a head-on collision with the second party, Abel Ncube, who was proceeding to Bulawayo with 22 passengers on board,” she said.

Chief Insp Makonese said the injured were ferried to Binga District Hospital for treatment.

“The accident occurred at a narrow bridge that allows only one vehicle to pass at a time and both buses sustained extensive frontal damages. The first party, Nyeka is being charged for negligent driving,” she said.

ZANU PF Midlands Chair, Shiri Killed In Horror Accident

the horrific accident scene

ZANU-PF Midlands Provincial vice chairman Goodwill Shiri was killed in road accident yesterday evening after a bus, which was trying to avoid hitting stray donkeys, landed on top of his car.

A female passenger, who was travelling in Shiri’s vehicle was rushed to Gweru Provincial Hospital while several passengers from the bus sustained minor injuries.

The incident occurred just outside Gweru, near Gwenoro Turn-off along the Gweru-Bulawayo Road around 6 30 pm.

Shiri who was driving a branded party vehicle was travelling towards Bulawayo on the way to his farm.

When staye media crew arrived at the scene, firefighters were trying to retrieve Shiri’s body which was still trapped in the car under the bus.

Some senior Zanu-PF officials led by the party’s provincial spokesperson Cornelius Mupereri had also arrived at the scene. Shiri was pronounced dead on the spot. Mupereri said Zanu-PF had been robbed of a hardworking man.

“I am still in shock, I can’t believe that Cde Shiri is gone. It’s shocking, and unthinkable, losing a hardworking cadre under such circumstances is saddening,” he said.

Witnesses interviewed said the driver of the bus branded “Boss Petso” was trying to avoid hitting a donkey when he swerved into oncoming traffic.

“He then lost control of the bus and hit an oncoming car before landing on top of the car. We quickly got out of the bus and tried to save the driver of the pickup truck who was trapped under the bus but we could not save his life,” said Mr Pardon Nkomo who was travelling in the bus.

TRUTH or SWEET LIES? – State Media Says Prices Have Come Down

Emmerson Mnangagwa
State Media Report: Prices of some basic commodities have begun to go down in Bulawayo with retailers putting back goods on their shelves.

In the past week, Zimbabwe experienced a sharp increase in prices of basic commodities on the back of spiralling parallel market exchange rates between the US dollar and bond notes or electronic/mobile money. This forced manufacturers to issue press statements saying they had not increased prices, hence the hikes were not justified.

Most retailers in the city have put back basic commodities on their shelves and at relatively reduced prices.

A 20 kg bag of mealie meal has been reduced from an average of $20 to $11 while a 10 kg bag has been reduced from $7,50 to $5.

A 2kg bag of rice has gone down from an average of $6 to an average of $3 while 2kg of sugar has been reduced from an average of $3 to $1,80.

A snap survey by The Chronicle indicated that there are still cooking oil shortages in supermarkets probably due to panic buying with informal traders selling it at around $10 per 2 litre on the black market.

Fuel prices remained unchanged during the price hike madness.
Pharmacies have not reduced prices and most are demanding payments in foreign currency. Some pharmacies do not have some critical medication required for patients with chronic illnesses like hypertension and diabetes.

Over the weekend,Emmerson Mnangagwa said Government is in the process of putting mechanisms in place to protect consumers’ earnings and savings both in local and foreign currency, including $9 billion in Real-time Gross Settlement Systems (RTGS) deposits.

“Government continues to work flat out to protect consumers, defend wage values and secure savings. This includes the $9 billion in RTGS deposits in our banks. We are already putting in place legally enforceable measures to protect such earnings and savings, whether in local or foreign currency. No one will lose their money,” he said.

Mnangagwa urged the nation to embrace the Transitional Stabilisation Programme (TSP), saying there were pains to be borne and sacrifices to be made before things start looking up for the ordinary man in the street.

TSP, which was recently presented by Finance and Economic Development Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube, is a sound fiscal adjustment policy aimed at enhancing the country’s economic growth and development.

Mnangagwa said his administration under the Second Republic is committed to addressing the issue of instability in prices.

“This process has triggered initial dis-equilibria in the economy, which have shown by way of instability in prices. I am fully conscious of this and remain committed to ensure that we stabilise things in the shortest possible time. Equally, I am aware that information must continue to flow to the citizenry so that there is an appreciation of the direction we are taking, the course we must walk and the sacrifices to be made, and for how long,” he said.

Mnangagwa reiterated that there was no need for people to panic in light of the prevailing economic situation.

“Temporary pressures must not blind us to the major gains we have made and continue to make on the economic front.

“Let us keep our focus on things that matter and on what needs to be urgently done,” added Mnangagwa.

By Paul Nyathi| A small group of disgruntled Civil Society leaders that appeared sponsored to discredit the Nelson Chamisa led MDC on Monday ran a relatively flopped gathering which was meant to drive civil society to turn against backing the opposition movement.

The group operating under the name Zimbabwe Indaba/Dare but booked at the Harare International Conference Centre under This Constitution Alliance invited about 5 000 Civil Society Leaders and activists from across the country under the pretext that they are grouping them to discuss the Civil Society narrative on the country after the July elections.

The delegates that included invited speakers from across the country’s ten provinces incidentally turned against the agenda of the organisers who were seriously against the Chamisa led opposition while giving a soft stance on the Emmerson Mnangagwa led ZANU PF government that has led the country to a collapse in 38 years.

Speakers from the provinces incidentally took turns to instead blast the Mnangagwa led government.

Chairman of the Steering Committee of the grouping Reverend Anglistone Sibanda completely failed the agenda of the organisation when he tried to convince Zimbabweans to accept the two cents per dollar tax on electronic money transfers introduced by Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube.

His sentiments were met by a huge outburst from the crowd that demanded he ends his address immediately.

Spokesperson of the committee Lynette Mudehwe came to the rescue of the completely off topic chairman and cooled down the crowd by lying that Sibanda was inviting for a dialogue on the matter and not supporting it.

There was a brief pandemonium before the start of the meeting when people ferried from Matabeleland provinces nearly boycotted the meeting claiming that they had not been fed for over twenty four hours and had not been provided with overnight accomodation in the capital.

The organisers failed to give media interviews after the meeting as they rushed out and locked themselves in a private room at the giant conference centre away from the delegates who were demanding transport monies to go back home.

Mnangagwa appointment discouraging

By Jacob Mafume| The MDC is irked by the decision to appoint Kudakwashe David Mnangagwa on the National Building Society Board.

Just like any other form of corruption, nepotism has no place in a Democratic society. We have made the point of a total failure to break from the past by the regime.

In previous arrangements, we witnessed appointments of President Mugabe’s kins and folk into influential positions including the appointment of both Bona Mugabe and her husband to state institutions.

The MDC in the SMART document argued then, as we do now, that combating corruption and parastatal reform is part of rethinking the state in an endevour to create a modern functional state.

We are of the view that the NBS must be concentrating on a radical housing program specifically for Development and Urbanisation of Rural Areas (DURA).

Appointing a Mnangagwa to the board will not help this cause. As a NSSA-owned bank, a clear appointment criteria must be used and appointments must be made public.

In our SMART document we suggest public interviews for appointments of this level.
We also restate that NSSA reform is imperative to ensure the commercial section brings back profits to the core business of paying out pensions, we find this kind of corruption to be an impediment.

More importantly institutions meant to combat corruption must investigate these kinds of decisions.

The Judiciary, National Prosecuting Authority, Zimbabwe Republic Police and the Anti-Corruption Commission must be strengthened and their independence guaranteed in line with reforms outlined in President Chamisa’s five point plan.

ZESA, Sekeramayi Strike Debt Payment Deal

Terrence Mawawa| Former Minister of Defence Sydney Sekeramayi has made a payment plan to settle an unpaid electricity bill of $327 481 owed to the Zimbabwe Electricity
Supply Authority (Zesa).

In September, the former minister was sued by the power utility.According to Energy and Power Development Minister Joram Gumbo Zesa will go after all senior politicians from the ruling Zanu-PF party and the opposition who have unpaid bills.

In an interview with the Daily News, Gumbo said:”I have asked the permanent secretary to give me a list of debtors and that includes government ministries, senior
people in government, companies,
farmers, schools, mines etc. I want
them listed and we will write to them
asking them to come up with payment plans and clear their debts.

As far as I am concerned, there is no one who is exempted from paying for the energy they use at their institution or their homes, farms, schools or even government hospitals. Everyone should pay and that includes me. At one time I had a debt with Zesa…I am happy to say that I cleared my debt at my farm
and I pay monthly.

…All individuals, senior politicians,
be they from Zanu PF or MDC – they have to pay.Sydney Sekeramayi is one of the most senior politicians in the country but he came to me and said he was surprised to see his name in the press saying he owes Zesa yet he has a plan with the power utility.

That is what we must do. I encourage everyone to do likewise.
Sekeramayi is a good example of
senior people who know the importance of paying Zesa bills. He
went to Zesa with a payment plan and it was readily accepted.”

If Mugabe Was The Biggest Problem Why Haven’t Economic Problems Disappeared With Him?, Asks Dr Ruhanya

Terrence Mawawa|Vibrant political analyst Dr Pedzisai Ruhanya believes the system created by Robert Mugabe(not Mugabe the man) has led to the economic demise.

“If Mugabe was the major/biggest problem in Zim; almost one year on, why are Zim’s problems not following him or at least show signs of disappearing.

The problem is not an individual but
institutional and structural; ZANU PF the institution and its agents must collectively be put aside!”

“The government itself must also tighten its use of resources and avoid lavish spending by ministers and their families so that we
collectively feel the pain of the economic measures. The ANIMAL FARM behaviour of the ruling ZANU PF elites will back fire and results
in resistance,” said Dr Ruhanya.

War Vets Push For Obert Mpofu’ s Dismissal

Terrence Mawawa|Former freedom fighters want Emmerson Mnangagwa to dismiss Obert Mpofu whom they accuse of failing to clear his name after being implicated in looting scams.

The war veterans have petitioned Mnangagwa to fire former cabinet
ministers who have been redeployed to head Zanu-PF departments.

The deployments have been made to ensure that Zanu-PF becomes supreme to government and directs its policies.

However, the war veterans want Obert Mpofu (Administration), Patrick Chinamasa (Finance),
Sydney Sekeramayi and David Parirenyatwa (Health) as well as Zanu PF politburoadministrator Dickson Dzora to be fired alleging
that they cannot be trusted as they are counterrevolutionary elements.

In a letter signed by 10 provincial chairpersons, the war veterans say,
Obert Mpofu needs to clear corruption allegations levelled against him.

These elements are known for factionalism and cannot be entrusted with such a responsibility (to run the party).

Our President’s vision of a new
corruption-free dispensation, sanity
and economic turnaround cannot be
realised as long as counterrevolutionaries are operational within the party system…No restructuring is possible

Zanu PF Switches Conference Venue Due To Poor Accommodation

Terrence Mawawa|The ruling party has decided to shift the venue for its annual conference from Gwanda Town to Esgodini as a result of below standard accommodation facilities, it has emerged.

Esgodini is near Bulawayo meaning thousands of delegates will be accommodated in Bulawayo.

Zanu-PF spokesperson Simon Khaya
Moyo conceded the venue of the 17th national conference was moved from Gwanda Town due to accommodation challenges facing the Matabeleland South Provincial Capital.

“We decided to change the venue of our annual 17th National People’s Conference.Initially, Gwanda was supposed to host the national conference but we then noted that
accommodation in that town and its vicinity might not be enough given the anticipated huge numbers of delegates. We then settled for Esigodini largely because it is closer to Bulawayo,” he said.

I Have Buried The Hatchet With My Brother Trevor Ncube: Mutodi

Jane Mlambo| Deputy Information Minister, Energy has posted on Twitter announcing that he had buried the hatchet with Alpha Media Holdings Chairperson, Trevor Ncube.

Mutodi and Ncube exchanged harsh words over the weekend following the decision by Alpha Media Holdings to hike price of its newspapers by 100 percent.

This prompted Mutodi to threaten to force government ministries and parastatals not to advertise in all AMH products.

Ncube on the other hand accused to Mutodi of sending his Zanu PF thugs to burn AMH newspapers which resulted in more exchanges.

Anger Over Corruption In The Mining Of Marange Diamonds

Jane Mlambo| Civil society groups currently meeting in Harare have expressed anger at the government over its failure to address corruption in the mining of diamonds saying the exclusion of communities in the negotiation of contracts was unfair on them.

Farai Maguwu of the Centre for Natural Resource Governance charged that due to government’s heavy security brigade, Marange had become a colony of Zimbabwe.

“Marange is a colony, if you want to go to Marange you need a visa or what they call permit which we are against.

“We can’t be a country where those in government negotiate contracts that benefits them only without involving the communities,” fumed Maguwu.

22 Years Old, 4 Children, Married For 14 Years | YOUR THOUGHTS?

22-YEAR-OLD woman narrated before a Lusaka local court that her husband speaks to his girlfriend on phone in her presence while she is listening.

This is in a case in which Rita Bulongo of Kanyama compound sued her husband, Renox Mwiinga, 25, for divorce. The two got married in 2004 and have four children. This brings their marriage of 14 years to an end.
Bulongo told senior court justices Morgan Kayanika and Esther Mulomba at Kanyama Local Court that problems in their marriage started in 2017 when Mwiinga ‘acquired’ a girlfriend he could talk to on phone in her presence at night while she was listening.
She said that eight months ago, Mwiinga got households and went to his girlfriend.

“I am chased from the rented house and I eat by begging and children are starving. I need to go back to the village because I don’t have relatives here but I don’t know how I will go,’’ Bulongo said. In defence, Mwiinga denied having a girlfriend and that he was just surprised to see Bulongo throwing his belongings outside the house.

He said that he also wanted a divorce. The court said that it was clear that the couple had problems especially that even Mwiinga also wanted a divorce.

The court granted divorce ordering Mwiinga to compensate Bulongo K4000 by monthly instalments of K200 and to be paying children maintenance fee of K500 per month.

The court ordered that households acquired together to be shared equally. The court ordered Mwiinga to provide K1000 transport money for Bulongo to go to the village not later than October 22, 2018.
