Opinion: Why U.K Should Not Recognise Zimbabwe Election Results

Opinion By British Politician Kate Hoey|Over the last few weeks I have escaped from the doom mongers of the zealot Remainers and their dire warnings about life after Brexit to concentrate on the elections in Zimbabwe.

At the beginning of June along with Conor Burns MP I spent time in Harare and Bulawayo on behalf of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association UK branch to report on the likelihood of a free and fair election on July 3oth.

We met with a wide range of people from Government, opposition political parties, business and civil society as well as speaking to Zimbabweans going about their daily life both in Harare and Bulawayo.

It is worth remembering that elections in Zimbabwe since 2002 have been both violent and rigged. In 2008, the ZEC took more than 5 weeks to declare a result and more than 270 activists, almost all belonging to the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) were killed. The last national polls in 2013 were relatively peaceful but internationally regarded as rigged. There was gross manipulation of the voters roll in favour of rural voters where Zanu PF have the greatest support.

Without doubt there was a different atmosphere in Zimbabwe. Gone were the police and army on the streets. Indeed the once common police road blocks where drivers had to hand over money were virtually non-existent. The ousting of Mugabe last year by the military led to hundreds of thousands of Zimbabweans coming out onto the streets to celebrate. The feeling that change had happened was widespread and overall there was an optimism amongst the general public that this would continue. The most common remark of the ‘man/woman on the street was “We want real change”! There was huge anticipation about change coming in the election.

But throughout common concerns about the election were expressed to us – the electoral roll being rigged; Military imbedded out of uniform in the rural areas; fear of reprisals as happened last time when the vote showed ZanuPF had not been supported. The failure to ensure access to the state media by the opposition and particularly in the countryside where people relied only on state radio. Virtually no coverage of the huge Nelson Chamisa (Leader of the MDC Alliance) rally’s on state television and radio

The main roads leading into Bulawayo and Harare were awash with large billboards and posters of Mnangagwa and there is little doubt that the blurring of the state with Zanu PF meant huge extra resources for ZanuPF. The MDC Alliance had not got the resources to even start to compete with the Governing Party. Virtually no-one felt the Zimbabwean Electoral Commission was independent of Government but hopes were high that despite all this and particularly with the presence of international observers there could still be a free and fair election.

On election day there were huge queues to vote and the turn out was the highest ever. At the polling stations the results were posted outside and the count was done for Parliament at the same time as the Presidential election. Yet it took 4 days for the Presidential result to be announced and then Mnangagwa was declared the winner and with 0.8 per cent more than was needed for a run off. The opposition have identified massive discrepancies in the vote—one example is in Mashonaland central where by 5pm 150,000 people had voted but in the next two hours until polls closed ZEC said 300,000 people voted!! Just one of many outrageous fixes by ZEC.

Without doubt the election has been cleverly rigged but even worse is the fact that it is the military that is behind the regime and they are now unleashing a similar fear and terror campaign on leading opposition activists and curbing all protests by killing and arresting innocent Zimbabweans.

The courage and self sacrifice of the Zimbabwean people is humbling to behold. We,in the international community cannot accept the result of the election and the Uk government must take a lead to ensure that the Zimbabwean government is seen for what it is a mark 2 Mugabe regime and one that deserves no support whatsoever.

Zanu Pf Backtracks On Mugabe, Wishes Him Well

By Own Correspondent| Zanu Pf has warmed up to former president Robert Mugabe wishing him a speedy recovery following his congratulatory message to President Emmerson Mnangagwa at his inauguration last Sunday.

Mugabe, who earlier on attracted ridicule from Zanu Pf stalwarts and was labelled a traitor for “endorsing opposition leader Nelson Chamisa a day before the July 30 elections” revealed that he was not well and could not attend Mnangagwa’s inauguration.

In a letter read at the inauguration ceremony, Mnangagwa revealed the circumstances leading to the absence of Mugabe at the event.

“I am not well….. but I have sent my daughter (Bona) and her husband (Simba Chikore) to represent me and my wife. Hearty congratulations.” read part of the letter.

The party on its official Twitter handle wished Mugabe a speedy recovery adding that President Mnangagwa would ensure that he gets the best medical care he deserved.

By Own Correspondent| Zanu Pf has sent a get well soon message to ailing former president Robert Mugabe pledging on behalf of President Emmerson Mnangagwa that he will be given the best medical care which he deserves.

Wrote Zanu Pf in a tweet:

Mugabe failed to attend President Mnangagwa’s inauguration last Sunday revealing that he was sick. He however sent his daughter Bona and her husband Simba Chikore to represent him adding that he sent “hearty congratulations” to his former lieutenant who was sworn into office after being declared winner of the July 30 2018 elections by the Constitutional court last Friday.

Mnangagwa was inaugurated at a packed National Sports Stadium in Harare at an event attended by several African Heads of States including South Africa’s Cyril Ramaphosa, Zambia’s Edgar Lungu and Botswana’s Mogkweetsi Masisi among others.

MDC Women’s Assembly Mourns Trudy Stevenson

By Own Correspondent| The Women’s Assembly of the Nelson Chamisa led MDC T has issued a message of condolence to the country and the Stevenson family following the death of Zimbabwean Ambassador to Senegal and the Gambia, Trudy Stevenson.

Stevenson, one of the MDC founding members died in Dakar, Senegal last Friday.

The MDC Assembly of Women has learnt with great shock the death of Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Senegal and the Gambia, Ms Trudy Stevenson.

Words may not suffice to express the heartfelt sorrow that we feel for the passing of Ambassador Stevenson who was reportedly found dead at her residence in Dakar, Senegal on Friday 24 August 2018. She was 73.

She was a founding member of MDC and was appointed Ambassador to Senegal and the Gambia during the inclusive Government.

“There Is No Post Election Violence But Peace”: ZRP

By Own Correspondent| Police chief spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba has dismissed as false allegations of post election violence in especially the private media adding that there was peace and tranquillity in Zimbabwe.

In an interview with a local publication, Assistant Commissioner Charamba said the Zimbabwe Republic Police had investigated all the alleged cases of politically motivated violence and established that they were unfounded.

“Investigations carried out so far have revealed that there are no threats and intimidation on anyone.

As police we would also want to reiterate that the people should report to the police if they are intimidated.

Police made investigations into these reports and interviewed the MDC Alliance Muzarabani Constituency chairperson Jaface Mufira who resides in ward 20. He stated that he was unaware of that information and that there were no threats of violence in the area.

Police also interviewed the MDC Alliance ward 20 councillor contestant Steven Sado, who said he had not been intimidated or threatened by anyone up to now.

Currently there is peace in Muzarabani and maybe the authors of these false messages want to cause mayhem.”-StateMedia.

Biti Drags ZRP To The High Court Over Impounded Vehicle

By Own Correspondent| MDC Alliance co-principal, Tendai Biti has filed an urgent chamber application at the High Court, seeking an order for the release of his Toyota Landcruiser from Southerton Police Station, which he claimed was impounded by unknown men from his grandmother’s house in Greendale last month.

The order was filed on August 27 2018 and Biti cites the officer-in-charge (OIC) Southerton Police Station, Chief Superintendent Nyabasa and the Police Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga as respondents.

In his narration of events, Biti said about a month ago, four men in a black Toyota Hilux went to his grandmother’s Greendale home and enquired about a Toyota Landcruiser that was parked in the yard.

Biti alleged that the domestic worker told the unknown men that Biti had parked it and that he was not using it on that particular day.

Biti claimed the men returned to the house the same day with a tow-truck and demanded that the gates to his grandmother’s residence be opened.

Biti says he wrote a letter to Chief Superintendent Nyabasa and copied to the first respondent but both refused to sign, stating the matter was out of their hands.

Top Mnangagwa CIO Dies

By Own Correspondent| A top CIO in President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s office who was also a war veteran, Austin Peter Moyo has died.

Moyo died at Mpilo hospital in Bulawayo on Sunday due to injuries sustained after he was involved in an accident last Tuesday. He was 62.

Moyo, whose war name was Madayiza, was described as a humble and loyal cadre who served his party Zanu Pf to the end.

Bulawayo Provincial Affairs Minister Angeline Masuku visited Moyo’s family in Cowdray Park suburb to relay her condolence message.

She described Moyo as a hard working officer who had also served Zanu-PF.

“We have lost a great mind and hero who was ready to sacrifice everything for the liberation of this country.

“As an intelligence officer, Moyo never forgot where he came from and served the party faithfully until his demise,” said Minister Masuku.

“We kindly ask the Moyo family to be patient and bear with us as we await communication from the higher officers regarding his burial.

“We all know that he worked hard and deserves to be honoured.”

Mr Edward Nare, the Moyo family spokesperson said the late Moyo was a sociable and humble intelligence officer.

“We are pained because we lost a humble and hardworking man who lost his wife two years go. We will remember his jolly mood and he never bullied or threatened anyone in the community as an intelligence officer,” said Mr Nare.

He said Moyo’s situation deteriorated on Saturday though he had shown signs of recovery.

“My nephew was involved in a car accident last week on Tuesday and was admitted to Mpilo Central Hospital.

“He sustained internal injuries and doctors say his liver was seriously damaged during the accident which caused his death,” he said.

Moyo is survived by four children and mourners are gathered at House Number 14910 Cowdray Park.

He was born in 1956 and went to Ntalale Primary before proceeding to Gwanda High where he started his Form One.

Before long, Moyo joined the armed struggle and after training was deployed in the Zipra intelligence department.

Nditsheni Dube, from the Zimbabwe National Army, said he met Moyo in 1977 in Lupane where he was a provincial Zipra intelligence officer.

“Madayiza was not only an intelligent officer but he was a skilled sniper and was very operational in the closing of Fatima Mission a year later.

“We also worked together in Jotsholo and his vigour helped us close Siganda base,” said Dube.

He added that after Independence, Moyo joined the President’s Office where he served until his last day.-Chronicle

 

“MDC Alliance Still Intact”: Welshman Ncube

By Own Correspondent| MDC Alliance principal and Spokesperson Welshman Ncube has revealed that while Alliance principals have not met since the elections,  the coalition was still intact and it would definately participate in the 2023 elections in “whatever shape ir form”.

Ncube’s statements come in the wake of speculation that all was not well in the coalition, an assertion he dispelled in an interview with a local publication.

He however said because the Alliance principals had a written agreement to work together, it had the obligation to manage and direct office bearers who had been successfully elected into parliament and council on how to fulfil on their mandate.

Said Ncube:

“The alliance has Members of Parliament which the alliance has to manage and direct on how to do their work in Parliament in the next five years.

The alliance has councillors and it has responsibility to provide leadership in those councils. Everyone who won at whatever level won on the ticket of the alliance. The alliance, therefore, has all these people who are the responsibility of the alliance.

Obviously, there will be future elections in 2023. The alliance in whatever shape or form will obviously be in those elections.”

Accident Claims Top CIO in President’s Office

By Own Correspondent| A senior officer in the President’s Office and war veteran Cde Austin Peter Moyo has died.

Moyo (62), died on Sunday at Mpilo Central Hospital in Bulawayo due to internal injuries sustained when he was involved in an accident last Tuesday.

Mnangagwa Lawyer Says They Deliberately Went To Court On A Holiday To Get Court Attention

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa’s lead lawyer Advocate Lewis Uriri has said his team’s appearance at the Constitutional Court (ConCourt) to file papers to oppose MDC Alliance electoral petition on a holiday was stage-managed to prove a point.

Advocate Uriri said going to ConCourt on a holiday was a side-show which later served its purpose.

“We went to ConCourt on a holiday to emphasise a point, though I did not myself attend. Those two small bags could not contain the mass of papers that was brought by a truck in three massive bags when filed. We are not stupid. We don’t film and photograph ourselves at a closed court and ‘leak’ the evidence! The side show served its purpose,” he said.

Uriri said the ruling by the ConCourt on the issue of the days had vindicated him, after he differed with his team on the interpretation of the law.

“The ruling confirms that you include the weekends and holidays, unless the time runs out on a weekend in which case the thing to be done is done the next working day,” he said.

In a brief to Mnangagwa, Uriri differed with his instructing lawyers, Mutumbwa, Mugabe and Partners on the interpretation of the law.

This was noted in a 17-page document prepared for Mnangagwa, by Uriri titled Ex Parte: Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, in which he urged his client to disregard the findings by instructing lawyers.

“Whether my instructing attorneys are correct in their interpretation that in view of rule 3 if the ConCourt Rules (2016) the last day of filing of a petition challenges my consultant’s election as President of the Republic of Zimbabwe is the 16th August 2018,” Uriri wrote.

“Whether my instructing attorneys are correct in their view that no election petition is filed, inauguration day would be Monday the 20th August 2018.”

Outrage Over Racist South African Writer’s Toxic Article On Zim

A VICIOUS article penned by a South African freelance white cricket writer, describing Zimbabwe as a “fascist’’ country whose national team should not be allowed to compete against their international counterparts, has sparked outrage in this country.

The article was written by Telford Vice, part of a cabal of unrepentant racist white cricket writers, who have been using the sport to further their crusade to soil the good name of this country.

Vice, who is based in Cape Town, has been a vicious critic of this country and its leadership and at the weekend used his weekly column in the Sunday Times of South Africa to describe Zimbabwe as a “fascist’’ nation, equating it to Hitler’s Germany and Benito Mussolini’s Italy.

The journalist’s article was based on a campaign in which he tried to argue, “why no one should play against Zimbabwe,’’ and said the Chevrons, who are set to visit South Africa next month, should not have been allowed to come into that country.

Ironically, the journalist’s article was published on the very same day that South African President Cyril Ramaphosa was one of the presidents who attended the inauguration of President Mnangagwa at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday.
Yesterday, Zimbabwe Cricket chairman Tavengwa Mukuhlani was forced to issue a statement to respond to the article.

“We have noted with serious concern an opinion article written by South African cricket journalist Telford Vice and published under the headline, “Should we allow Zimbabwe’s cricket team to tour SA?” in the latest edition of the Sunday Times newspaper,’’ Mukuhlani said in a statement.

“Our only response is to echo the words of Nelson Mandela in 1995, when he said: “Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire, it has the power to unite people in a way that little else does.”

“Similarly, Zimbabwe Cricket’s vision is to enable individuals and communities to be empowered and inspired by cricket. We stand by that and we believe cricket can be used as a vehicle for emboldening the youth to reach their full potential in any field they choose.

“Cricket has that power and we are committed to the game and its ability to provide an environment that is positive and energetic as well as expands the horizons and dreams of those that play and are involved. That is our purpose.’’
Vice claimed in his vicious article that the Chevrons represented the triumph of oppression and were sporting ambassadors of fascism.

“Zimbabwe’s team represent the triumph of oppression over the dreams of millions who dared harbour hopes for nothing more nor less than a decent life. They fly the flag of fascism,” he wrote on Sunday.

“Should they be detained as co-conspirators in crimes against their compatriots, turned away at the border, or asked what the hell they think they’re doing trying to pretend all is well enough where they come from to indulge in a spot of mere cricket?

“What should not happen, under any circumstances, is that they are let in to smear the second country with their lie of normality.

“Such an act would be a dereliction of the duty all of us have to the natural law of standing up for right in the face of wrong. It would be unconscionable.

“But when Zimbabwe touch down at OR Tambo International late next month to play South Africa in three games in each of the white-ball formats, not only will they be let in, no questions asked, they will be treated as if they are just another cricket team from just another country.

“They aren’t. They represent the triumph of oppression over the dreams of millions who dared harbour hopes for nothing more nor less than a decent life. They fly the flag of fascism.

“Try telling the suits that they should demand Zimbabwe’s expulsion from the International Cricket Council.
All of the above should happen. It won’t because too many people no longer think; neither about principles nor politics nor indeed what’s right and wrong about how other people are treated.”

Vice also praised former Zimbabwe cricketers, Andy Flower and Henry Olonga, for their black armband protest during the 2003 Cricket World Cup.

Flower has since revealed, in an interview with BBC Radio 5 Sport’s Alison Mitchell, that David Coltart, a fierce critic of the Government and an opposition politician, was a big part of that protest.

“The meeting I remember most clearly was in David Coltart’s study, at his home and we sat down and wrote the statement,” Flower said.

“When I say we sat down and wrote the statement, obviously, David Coltart was more eloquent that either Henry or I, and it was important that the language we used in the statement was the right sort of language to get our message across.

“So David, with the input from Henry and I, sort of wrote and edited the statement and I do believe it was David who came up with the idea of having a symbol.”

England subsequently forfeited their World Cup match against Zimbabwe scheduled for Harare Sports Club in what, according to former Zimbabwe captain, Duncan Fletcher, who was coach of the English team during that World Cup adventure, was part of the politics of the day.

“Before a decision (to either travel to Harare or not) was to be made, we welcomed two incredibly brave visitors, who came to speak to me and (Nasser) Hussan (then England captain),” wrote Fletcher, in his autobiography, “Behind The Shades”.

“They were Zimbabwean players, Andy Flower and Henry Olonga, smuggled in by a member of Zimbabwe’s opposition party, the MDC, who had spoken to the whole team before taking me and Hussain into an adjacent room, where we met Flower and Olonga.

“They told us then of their plan to wear black armbands during their games in the tournament to mourn that (democracy). They even suggested that we might consider wearing black armbands if we decide to play in Harare.”

Coltart confirms that he went to Cape Town during that time, and spoke to the England team, but said he never persuaded them to boycott their World Cup tie against Zimbabwe, but instead, urged them to come and fulfil the match.
They didn’t and have never played a match against Zimbabwe since.

ZC officials say the absence of box-office home series, like a contest against England, has cost them more than $7 million in projected earnings every year and has played a big part in pushing their financial books into the red zone.

South African Cricket Writer Calls For Ban On Zimbabwe From World Cricket

The write up has received wide condemnation across the world.

A cricket team wearing the crest of a country where the henchman of a deposed tyrant has recently, and allegedly, been elected president enters another country.

Should they be detained as co-conspirators in crimes against their compatriots, turned away at the border, or asked what the hell they think they’re doing trying to pretend all’s well enough where they come from to indulge in a spot of mere cricket?

What should not happen, under any circumstances, is that they are let in to smear the second country with their lie of normality.

Such an act would be a dereliction of the duty all of us have to the natural law of standing up for right in the face of wrong. It would be unconscionable.

But when Zimbabwe touch down at O. R. Tambo International late next month to play South Africa in three games in each of the white-ball formats, not only will they be let in, no questions asked, they will be treated as if they are just another cricket team from just another country.

They aren’t. They represent the triumph of oppression over the dreams of millions who dared harbour hopes for nothing more nor less than a decent life. They fly the flag of fascism.

You have to wonder what Oliver Reginald Tambo, who lived in a world where people and principles mattered more than politics, and before leaders sold out to affluence only to resurrect identity politics when it suits them, might have made of that.

“The land on which the cattle grazed was communal property. It was owned by no-one. It was nobody’s private farm. It was the common property of the people, shared by the people. So the practice of sharing was central to the concept of ownership of property.”

That’s Tambo. Try telling the ANC, the EFF, and the DA that everybody already owns the land and that, accordingly, selfishness should be a criminal offence.

Try telling those who only give a damn that Zimbabwe will be here so they can gauge how far South Africa are from a realistic shot at winning the World Cup that they should be on picket lines protesting the Zimbabweans’ presence.

Try telling South Africa’s players that they should refuse to take the field.

Try telling the suits that they should demand Zimbabwe’s expulsion from the International Cricket Council.

All of the above should happen. It won’t because too many people no longer think; neither about principles nor politics nor indeed what’s right and wrong about how other people are treated.

We used to think: Andy Flower and Henry Olonga shattered the lie of normality by wearing black armbands to “mourn the death of democracy in our beloved Zimbabwe” in the full glare of the publicity lavished on the 2003 World Cup. They did so in Harare and across the road from Robert Mugabe’s house.

Is it too cynical to wonder if, 15 years on, players would ask their agents how much they would be paid for wearing the armbands?

Maybe. So here’s an uncynical challenge to the Zimbabweans who will, unfortunately, be allowed into South Africa next month to play mere cricket even as their country cowers in anticipation of what the newly installed tyrant will do.

Zimbabwe’s team represent the triumph of oppression over the dreams of millions who dared harbour hopes for nothing more nor less than a decent life. They fly the flag of fascism.

Before you pack your bats, boots, helmets, gloves and pads, before you check if you have enough chewing gum and sunblock, put a roll of insulation tape into your bag.

Make sure it’s black.

Police Dispute Post Election Political Violence Claims

By Paul Nyathi|The Zimbabwe Republic Police has outrightly declined claims that there is sporadic incidents of post election political violence in the country.

Police chief spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba told state run media on Tuesday that investigations by the Zimbabwe Republic Police had revealed that all the cases of political violence alleged in private media were false.

“Investigations carried out so far have revealed that there are no threats and intimidation on anyone,” she said.

Snr Asst Comm Charamba said victims of political violence, if ever it happens, know where to report – the police.

“As police we would also want to reiterate that the people should report to the police if they are intimidated,” she said.

Snr Asst Comm Charamba said investigations carried out in Mashonaland Central revealed that the province was enjoying peace although there had been false reports circulating on social media alleging that some top Zanu-PF officials in Muzarabani South allegedly threatened MDC Alliance poll agents.

“Police made investigations into these reports and interviewed the MDC Alliance Muzarabani Constituency chairperson Jaface Mufira who resides in ward 20. He stated that he was unaware of that information and that there were no threats of violence in the area. Police also interviewed the MDC Alliance ward 20 councillor contestant Steven Sado, who said he had not been intimidated or threatened by anyone up to date,” said Snr Asst Comm Charamba.

She said claims that 30 MDC Alliance supporters had been displaced by political violence and were housed at Msasa Project in Harare were false.

“Investigations were carried out and the police interviewed Msasa Projects administrator Prisca Fereti and it was established that it was a false report,” added Snr Asst Comm Charamba.

Government Dispatches Bomb Experts To Investigate Chinhoyi GMB Explosion

At least four workers were killed, while three others were seriously injured after a massive explosion, whose cause is still unknown, rocked the Grain Marketing Board’s Lions Den depot in Mashonaland West province yesterday afternoon.

The blast was so powerful that it ripped through reinforced concrete structures, and caused a fire.

Government yesterday activated specialised investigations State agencies, including the police forensic department and the bomb disposal unit, to comb through the debris of the massive blast for clues as to its cause.

The impact of the blast could be felt some metres away from the depot, with some people reporting cracked walls on their buildings, while pieces of the reinforced silo concrete structure flung several metres away from the blast epicentre.

Lands, Agriculture and Rural Resettlement Minister Perrance Shiri, who visited the scene of the tragic incident yesterday afternoon, confirmed security arms of Government had been called in to investigate the blast.

“We had a very unfortunate incident whereby some explosion took place in the silo complex,” he said. “We are not very sure what caused it. There are many theories as to what could have caused the explosion.

“We have now summoned forensic experts from the Zimbabwe Republic Police and other experts from various specialist departments to come and examine the site and possibly find out what could have caused the explosion.”

Minister Shiri said it was too early to speculate on what could have caused the explosion.

He said an assessment on the state of the silos would be carried out while grain that was stored in the silos would have to be put in bags and stored outside.

“We have got open silos where we use tarpaulins, but it now entails maize being put in bags for effective storage,” said Minister Shiri. “As it is, the silos will be temporarily unserviceable until the necessary repair work has been carried out.”

Some workers at the depot said the fire and resultant explosion could have been caused by an electrical fault.

Others questioned the magnitude of the blast, saying it could have been an explosive device, while gas build up in the storage infrastructure has also been cited as another potential cause.

The affected workers were part of the morning shift that was cleaning the silos.

They tried to escape through the underground chamber outlet, but were caught up in the blast.

Others affected by the blast were on the top of the silos when it occurred.

Lions Den resident and local councillor Misheck Nyarubero said he rushed to the scene after hearing the massive blast that shook his house.

“I was at home about two kilometres away when the explosion happened,” he said. “It shook the house and I thought it was an earthquake, so I went outside. People said the loud blast was coming from GMB and I went to investigate.”

“Workers there told me there were people trapped in the silo tunnel after a fire broke out from the fifth floor, causing extensive damage.”

Two of the workers were rescued alive with serious burns, while the bodies of those who died were yet to be retrieved by yesterday evening.

Briefing Government officials at the scene, depot manager Mr Obert Zhoya said they managed to put out the resultant fire which started from the silo control plant initially using a bowser provided by a local farmer.

The effort was boosted by the arrival of a fire tender from Chegutu Municipality about 120 kilometres away and another one from Zimplats in Ngezi, as those from nearby Chinhoyi Municipality were said to be down.

“There was a loud sound of an explosion and we called the police,” said Mr Zhoya.

“According to the shift manager, all the workers on the shift could be accounted for except for six who have not yet been located. We are also waiting to hear from experts as to what could have caused the fire and explosion.”

The latest development has led to the temporary closure of the silos, while grain delivered would be stacked on tarpaulin tents as a contingency measure.

Farmers delivering grain to one of the largest storage facilities in the country and in Africa were yesterday being redirected to nearby Banket and Chinhoyi silos.

The Lions’ Den silos have 29 silo bins, making them the second largest in Africa after those in Egypt and third in the world after those in Australia.

The local silos have a storage capacity of around 104 000 metric tonnes of grain.

Last year, Government invested in the refurbishment of the silos, which were built in the 1970s.

Police Shoot Innocent Woman At A Roadblock

POLICE officers manning a roadblock along Seke Road near St Mary’s in Chitungwiza allegedly shot and injured a 30-year-old woman after the driver of the vehicle in which she was travelling in reportedly refused to stop at a roadblock.

Loveness Chiriseri, who had hitched a lift to town in a blue Honda Fit on August 19, ended up being admitted to Chitungwiza General Hospital nursing a bullet wound after being shot.

Chiriseri said the police officer fired at the car after the driver failed to stop at the roadblock and one of the bullets hit her.

“I left home around 10am and got into a blue Honda Fit which had no number plates and was written ‘for sale’ as I was going for a lesson” she said.

“Upon approaching the roadblock, the driver slowed down, but then proceeded past the roadblock. I think he then changed his mind and stopped within a distance of less than 100 metres. That is when the officer with a gun fired two shots. I don’t know where the other shot went, but the second hit the car seat and my right buttock.”

Her medical records signed by a Doctor Garapo showed that she was nursing a gunshot wound.

“Patient who sustained above injury after a bullet ricocheted from a car and hit patient who was a passenger,” her medical record read.

Chiriseri said the police have been mum over the incident and she was being forced to pay for her medical bills, which have gone over $500.

“The police are behaving like nothing happened. I am paying for my medical bills and they have not even made an effort to find out what happened to me. I am suffering emotionally and financially owing to actions of a trigger-happy police officer,” she said.

The driver of the Honda Fit, Lloyd Sibanda, was arrested for failure to comply with police instructions and is currently out on bail.

He refused to speak on the matter, saying he was in shock.

Chiriseri, who is currently bed-ridden, said Sibanda was also helping her with medical bills.

Police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi promised to make enquiries about the case, but his phone was no longer being answered later during the day.

Chiwenga Personally Got Ruvheneko Fired – REPORT

By Paul Nyathi|President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Deputy Constantino Chiwenga personally got Ruvheneko Parirenyatwa fired, it has emerged.

Ruvheneko was until the weekend a presenter at the Zimpapers run CapiTalk FM radio but she met her fate when Chiwenga reportedly complained that the radio station had crossed the line on its reportage. The station last month grilled the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission chairperson Priscilla Chigumba and most recently (last Wednesday) engaged the National Patriotic Front spokesperson, Jealousy Mawarire, the latter who during the program severely criticised the former military commander who is now the vice president, Constantino Chiwenga.

Another staff member, the program manager Napoleon Nyanhi, (also called Napster) has also been sacked.

Impeccable sources within the radio station say Ruvheneko is the victim of a so called on going restructuring exercise at the state run radio.

ZimEye.com was told she has handed in her resignation letter. Ruvheneko told ZimEye, “I handed in my resignation letter …last week.”

When asked concerning the floating rumours, she replied dismissing them saying her exit was “amicable”.

While Nyanhi was fired after the radio station opened phone lines on August 1 when Chiwenga’s soldiers shot and killed at least 6 protesters in Harare, Parirenyatwa was singled following her interview with the National Patriotic Front spokesman, Jealousy Mawarire who lambasted Vice President Constantino Chiwenga and British ambassador to Zimbabwe, Catriona Laing.

Chiwenga demanded answers following the 1 August interview afterwhich Nyanhi was told that bosses in Government wanted him kicked out. Subsequently, his junior, Ruvheneko was also forced to exit via a so called “resignation.”

“People of Zimbabwe ought to put aside their political differences and join hands with President Mnangagwa and work towards growth of the economy,” he said.

Mr Magura said the country was endowed with vast human and natural resources that would turn around the economy if properly utilised.

“Zimbabwe has intelligent people from different political backgrounds who are capable of changing the economy as long as they make collaborative efforts,” he said.

“We are expecting the President and his Government to work with all people of Zimbabwe and ensure they have access to finances for SMEs and also create a desk to deal with all issues concerning SMEs.”

Trade development committee chairman for the Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI) Mr Henry Nemaire said he was confident of the new dispensation’s potential.

“With the mantra ‘Zimbabwe is open for business’ there will be liberal marketing and growth of the country’s economy,” he said. “In the business sector we are expecting the Government to give us full attention and support our businesses.

“As an organisation we want the Second Republic to improve infrastructure like roads, schools and hospitals, to mention a few.

“We also expect Government to promote policies that help reduce production costs which affect our business, for instance, electricity charges that are highly unfavourable to business at the moment and reduce farming input prices and taxes.”

ZESA To Pay Victim $24K

Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC), a subsidiary of Zesa Holdings, has been ordered to pay $23 805 to a Harare widow who lost her husband due to electrocution.

ZETDC negligently left a live cable on the ground and Ms Scholastica Muranda’s husband accidentally stepped on it.

The man died from the injury. Ms Muranda argued that her husband was the breadwinner in the family which looked up to him for support.
High Court judge Justice Edith Mushore granted Ms Muranda an order for payment of $23 805.

“The defendant be and is hereby ordered to pay the plaintiff the following:

a) Damages for loss of support for plaintiff and her child in the amount of US$23 805 together with interest thereon at the prescribed rate calculated from December 23 2016 to the date of payment in full.
b) Costs of suit.”

The Legal Resources Foundation (LRF) represented Ms Muranda while Muza & Nyapadi Legal Practitioners acted for ZETDC. The live wire that electrocuted the man was left exposed by ZETDC, posing a danger to people who used the path.

Zesa initially denied liability, but later made a U-turn during trial and admitted to causing the man’s death.
When the case started, Ms Muranda claimed $90 297 but the court reduced the figure to $23 805

In a related matter, the High Court recently held ZETDC liable for the death of an eight-year-old boy who fell on naked power cables in Harare in 2012 before ordering the firm to pay $15 000 in damages. ZETDC paid damages to the deceased boy’s mother, Ms Constance Sinachinga, as compensation for the psychological trauma and emotional shock occasioned by the company’s gross negligence at No. 284 Herbert Chitepo Avenue.

The successful lawsuit serves as an eye-opener to some residents that ZETDC can successfully be sued for deaths occasioned by the company’s negligence.

Justice Jester Charewa granted the default judgment after the power company failed to defend its case.

“It is ordered that the judgment be and is hereby entered for the applicant in the sum of US$15 000 together with interest at the prescribed rate from the date of summons to date of final and full payment,” ruled Justice Charewa.

“Respondent shall pay costs of the suit.”

Ms Belinda Chinowawa of the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights represented Ms Sinachinga.

The now late Takudzwa Nyandoro was a victim of ZETDC cables left unsecured by the power utility’s employees after maintenance work.

The incident occurred on March 29, 2012 when the unsuspecting boy was playing outside the house with his friends.

The children were picking guavas from a tree in the yard. “While doing so, Takudzwa lost grip, fell into a pit which had been dug by the respondent’s employees and was immediately electrocuted,” reads Ms Sinachinga’s affidavit.

Ms Sinachinga said ZETDC could have at least placed warning signs near the pit.

The live wires in question, according to Ms Sinachinga, were exposed for a period stretching from January to March 2012.

Political analyst Mr Timothy Pemba said President Mnangagwa would lead the country with the support of development partners.

He called for the removal of all forms of sanctions against Zimbabwe from the international community.

“Zimbabweans should use this as an opportunity to boost democracy and progress,” said Mr Pemba. “Motivated by the country’s peaceful situation, we must unite to achieve economic growth.”

An analyst who refused to be named said the President’s inauguration as the second Executive President of Zimbabwe demonstrated the country’s maturing democracy and dismissed talk of political polarisation in some quarters as baseless.

“To do away with some of the problems Zimbabwe is facing now we have to put the past behind us and uphold President Mnangagwa’s vision of economic growth, industrialisation and job creation,” he said.

Action Group Takes Mnangagwa To Court On Commissioners

Community Water Alliance today launched a High Court application, case number HC 7858/18 against the appointment of Caretaker Commissions by the Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing Hon July Moyo.

The urgent chamber application in which Community Water Alliance (CWA) is the first applicant, Combined Harare Residents Association (CHRA) and Chitungwiza & Manyame Residents Association (CAMERA) as second and third applicants respectively, seeks to nullify the illegal appointments which chew money generated from rates payments. The applicants saw it grossly unreasonable for the Minister of Local Government to saddle ratepayers with an unjustifiable and unnecessary expense in circumstances where Councils are already experiencing financial constrains.

This is a follow-up action from Community Water Alliance’s letter dated 17 August 2018, where the water movement sought an explanation from Town Clerks of Local Authorities on complacency to ensure councilors take oath of office as defined on Section 47(3) of the Urban Councils Act.

Section 277(3) of the 2013 Constitution of Zimbabwe states that ” except as otherwise provided in subsection (2) or an Act of Parliament, mayors, chairpersons and councilors of local authorities assume office on the ninth day after the announcement of the results of the general election in which councillors were elected”. On 02 August 2018 announcement of the results of election of councilors was made by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission. Since then the ninth day expired on 11 August 2018.

We implore the Minister of Local Government to respect constitutional provisions and act in a manner that promote rule of law. Rule by law will not improve service delivery at Local Authority level.

Minister Perrance Shiri Flies To Lion’s Den Following Explosion Which Claimed Four Workers

By Own Correspondent| Outgoing Minister of Lands, Agriculture and Rural Resettlement, Retired Air Chief Marshall Perrance Shiri flew to Lion’s Den in Mashonaland following an explosion at GMB which claimed 4 workers.

The explosion, which resulted in fire in the control tower plant saw parts of the foundation of the silos being ripped apart and strewn a few metres away from the silos.

Shiri, could however not be drawn to comment on the source of the explosion revealing that more details would be availed after investigations.

Said Shiri:

“Investigations will be carried out by forensic experts to ascertain the real cause of the explosion, while engineering experts will have to assess the extent of the damage to the plant and the silo in question.”

Several concrete blocks forming the foundation of the silo’s escape route were ripped up and strewn metres way off the storage facility.

Three people were rescued, including one who was affected by carbon monoxide as he tried to render rescue services.

Mourinho Demands Respect Despite United’ s 0-3 Loss

Manchester United coach Jose Mourinho walked out of his post-match press conference, demanding respect for his three Premier League titles following his team’s 3-0 defeat to Tottenham on Monday.

Mourinho reacted angrily to a question about some supporters leaving Old Trafford after Lucas Moura put Spurs 3-0 up.

He said: “What was the result? 3-0. Do you know what this means? 3-0, but also means three Premierships, and I won more Premierships alone, than the other 19 managers together. Three for me, and two for them.”

Latest On GMB Lion’ s Den Explosion


By Own Correspondent| One person has been confirmed dead while at least 4 others are still missing and believed to be trapped following a high magnitude explosion at GMB Lion’s Den in Mashonaland West Tuesday afternoon.

The deceased, a GMB worker died following the explosion which left one of the silos on fire. The blast also blew huge pallets of concrete from the silos rendering them unusable.

The cause of the blast has not yet been confirmed although it is suspected that it could have been caused by an electrical fault.

Several other GMB workers who were also injured by the explosion were taken to hospital.

The Lion’s Den GMB is the country’s largest grain storage facility.

Institute Of Young Women Development Releases Own Report On Elections

A delegation of 30 accredited and more than 50 unaccredited young women and men comprising of IYWD members, staff and networking organisation from Liberia observed the 30 July Harmonised Election.

Bulawayo Chiefs coach Garthly Chipuka has accused FC Platinum of believing in the use of juju and resorting to unorthodox means to win matches.

Chipuka claimed the Zvishavane side poured urine on him and his players and also had it spewed all over the dressing room.

“They (FC Platinum) are supposed to be the torch bearers of our league but let me express my disgust at their conduct.

They poured urine at us, and it was all over the dressing room, just imagine how stinking urine is and its poured on you, ”said Chipuka.

“When we beat these big clubs they think we use juju, but it’s because these youngsters don’t get anything, so they would want to market themselves during these big matches so that they can be noticed. In this day and age, we still have people who still believe in the use of muti in football? it doesn’t work.”

Trudy Stevenson Repatriation Underway

Preparations for the repatriation of the remains of late Zimbabwean ambassador to Senegal and The Gambia Mrs Trudy Stevenson are underway in the north western African country.

In a telephone interview with the ZBC News, Secretary for Foreign Affairs Ambassador Joey Bimha said a post-mortem carried out on the late Ambassador Stevenson revealed that she succumbed to inflation of the pancreas.

He said the mission is now working with the Senegalese government departments in processing documents for the repatriation of her body to Zimbabwe.

According to reports, Mrs Stevenson was found dead at her residence in Dakar on Saturday morning.

She was a founding member of the MDC and was appointed ambassador to Senegal and The Gambia in 2009 during the Government of National Unity and was deployed representing the MDC led by Professor Welshman Ncube.

A former member of parliament for Harare North (2000-2008), she continued to serve as ambassador after the collapse of the inclusive government in 2013 to date.

At the time of her death, Mrs Stevenson, who served as MDC’s National Secretary for Policy and Research — had quit politics to focus on her diplomatic career.

She was born in the United States and attended school in England from 1955 to 1962.

She obtained a BA degree from the University of Reading and a Graduate Certificate in Education from the University of Zimbabwe.

She lived in Uganda during the 1970s before coming to Zimbabwe in 1980 where she became a citizen in 1990.

BREAKING : Four Feared Dead Following Explosion At GMB Lion’ s Den

 

By Own Correspondent| Four people are feared dead following an explosion at GMB Lion’s Den in Mashonaland West.

Several other workers were also reportedly injured in the blast whose source was not yet confirmed by the time of writing.

However, sources privy to the developments at GMB said the explosion could have been caused by an electrical fault.

So deadly was the explosion that huge pallets of concrete were blown away several meters away from the source of the blast.

One man, suspected to have been affected by carbon monoxide while attempting to rescue people affected in the explosion was reportedly taken to hospital.

Rescue efforts and the retrieval of burnt bodies are currently underway.

No Joy For Lloyd Mutasa Despite Victory Over Bosso

Lloyd Mutasa is a worried man, despite Sunday’s 2-0 over Highlanders in an inauguration challenge match.
Mutasa said he is worried about his side’s two
games – against big teams – which have been postponed so far.
DeMbare have two games in hand, against Highlanders and CAPS United and Mutasa admits those games are putting him under pressure.
“This issue of our matches being postponed is really affecting us in terms of our preparations.
“It is really a setback when you train and prepare for a match then you don’t play. It means you will have
to start all over again,” said Mutasa.
The DeMbare coach said they are now working under pressure.
“We are now working under a lot of pressure because we are two matches behind against big
teams (Highlanders and CAPS United) but we will try to work on winning those matches,” he said.
Mutasa was, however, pleased by his side’s performance yesterday.
“I think the boys did well in the President’s inauguration cup and we are happy with the result as a team, it means something to us.
“We have two big fixtures ahead of us and those games need energy and proper planning,” he said
adding “Right now our prayer is that players don’t pick injuries or any kind of hindrances because we need to be in full swing for both games.
“We really need to plan ahead and right now we are working under pressure.”
Mutasa is expecting Kingston Nkhatha who is expected to start work on September 1 after sorting
out work permit.

Controversial War veterans’ secretary general Victor Matemadanda has said United States President
Donald Trump should not meddle in South Africa’s land reform issue.

Matemadanda accused the United States of America of having a ‘big
brother’ approach to African issues.

Matemadanda has also said Zimbabwe’s War Veterans are behind the ANC’s decision to amend the Constitution to pave the way for expropriation.

“We are in solidarity with our neighbouring nation and we pray that
they do not give in to the unnecessary attention from the West. They (Mr Trump and Americans) should stop meddling in South African internal matters, they have no right whatsoever. As war vets from both countries, we fought side by side.

If South Africans want their land back, it’s their call and it should be respected. Were our forefathers happy to die when the whites seized their land and did anyone in the moral world condemn it? They took our land in cold blood,” Matemadanda told Chronicle.

Senior Zanu PF Official Arrested For Abducting Opposition Activist

A senior Zanu PF official has been arrested for kidnapping an opposition activist.

Zanu-PF Senator for Seke, Tabeth Murwira, Christopher Mujeyi (51), Cater Matengambiri (59), Kalisto Pemiwa (72) and Lawrence Guwa (65) appeared before Chitungwiza Resident Magistrate Mrs Yeukai
Chigodora jointly charged with kidnapping and destroying the opposition activist’ s property.

Murwira and her fellow party members pleaded not guilty.
Murwira’s vehicle was allegedly used in committing the offence.

On December 13 last year
Phillip Mashongahande (50) was sleeping in his shop at Cornerstone, Beatrice at night when the suspects arrived. They knocked at his door and assaulted him when he opened it. They allegedly handcuffed Mashongahande and searched his shop. One of the suspects allegedly
tried to set the shop on fire while
Mashongahande was inside.

They allegedly left Mashongahande handcuffed in the shop and he was only rescued the following day by
Constable Tinashe Katsuwa. Trial will continue on September 6.

MDC Warns Against Chamisa Arrest

Posting on his Facebook page without elaborating, Sikhala warned that there will be no peace if Chamisa is put under house arrest for disputing the July 30 elections.

“Any attempt to put our President Adv Nelson Chamisa under house arrest because he refused to recognise stolen elections will be suicidal. Be warned,” he wrote.

Women’s Organisation Reaches Out To Mnangagwa For Inclusion In New Cabinet

Women in Politics Support Unit (WiPSU) congratulates His Excellency, the President of Zimbabwe, Emerson D. Mnangagwa on his inauguration. We urge our new President to lead in the building of a new Zimbabwe by demonstrating his commitment to gender parity as enshrined in the Constitution by appointing a 50/50 Cabinet and proceeding to prioritise the rights of women.

We welcome the commitment to Constitutionalism that the President made at his inauguration, and accordingly draw his attention to Section 56 (2) of the Constitution which provides that “Women and men have the right to equal treatment, including the right to equal opportunities in political, economic, cultural and social spheres.” Therefore, we strongly urge the President to stand guided by the principle of equality and non-discrimination.

We refresh the President’s memory and remind him that there are 117 women who are MP’s Elect, ready and fully capable of taking up positions within the Executive.

“We Support Legal And Transparent Land Reform”: UK Tells South Africa

By Own Correspondent| Prime Minister Theresa May has revealed that her country supports land redistribution in neighbouring South Africa as long as the process is done legally and transparently.

May who is on a tour of Africa, is also set to visit Kenya and Nigeria among other African countries.

Said May who is currently in South Africa:

“The UK has for some time now supported land reform. Land reform that is legal, that is transparent, that is generated through a democratic process.

It’s an issue that I raised and discussed with President Ramaphosa when he was in London earlier this year. I’ll be talking about it with him later today.”

Almost 20 years ago, Zimbabwe fell out with Britain and its allies after it embarked on the fast track land reform programme where land was expropriated with no compensation.

United States president Donald Trump last week alleged that there were large scale killings of white farmers tasking US Secretary of State to look into the matter.

 

ZANU PF Supporters Bash The Herald Over Chamisa Publications

In a highly sensational trend on Twitter, the ZANU PF supporters blame the Herald Editor Caeser Zvayi for continuously giving Chamisa media coverage albeit with the paper thinking that they are destroying Chamisa.

“The guys at Herald need to know that the election is over. @caesarzvayi please let’s move on to more substantive issues than this pointless Chamisa-bashing. What’s the relevance now? wrote the ruling party supporters on a Twitter page @EDNews.

The Herald Newspaper editor Zvayi was however not amused nor shakeable on the call by the ZANU PF supporters.

“Don’t tell me how to do my job. As long as Chamisa behaves like a spoilt brat, he has to be told so. You expect us to look aside while he urinates in the communal well? Come on,” responded Zvayi.

Khupe Drags ZEC To Court Over Election Results

By Own Correspondent| The MDC T faction led by Dr Thokozani Khupe has taken the country’s elections body ZEC to court over electoral irregularities in Matabeleland North which saw the party failing to secure the Senatorial and Proportional Representation (PR) seats.

The matter was heard at 10 am (Tuesday) at the High Court by Justice Mangota.

Party Spokesperson Linda Masarira confirmed the development and said following the announcement of the election results by ZEC, her party noted that it had garnered more than 5 percent of the vote hence was supposed to represent Matabeleland North in the Senate and PR seats.

Said Masarira:

“Our party noted electoral irregularities in Matabeleland North and we challenged ZEC over the issue.

As is the law, ZEC cannot nullify the results on their own despite acknowledging the error.

Our party secured more than 5 percent of the vote and we are supposed to be represented for the Matabeleland North Senatorial and PR seats.”

“We have resuscitated our projects for commercial sex workers of buying and selling agricultural products in Harare.

Those ladies have revealed that they got into that business (sex trade) not by choice, so let us not leave these people out. If you don’t want prostitution, help these people…

We want some of these commercial sex workers to be able to do commercial farming and goat rearing and we are also getting into primary and secondary schools in remote areas for them to have computers, new blocks, and upgrading grade zero leaning equipment.”

“No Progress Without Chamisa, Join Mnangagwa”: War Veterans Tell Chamisa

Matemadanda said war veterans believed that the country could only move forward if Chamisa accepts Mnangagwa’s invitation to work with him.

He said Chamisa’s ability to amass over two million votes for a first timer in a presidential election is no mean feat.

Said Matemadanda:

“Working together starts with the loser recognising the winner as the legitimate President because that is what happened when the late Morgan Tsvangirai formed a Government of National Unity (GNU) with former president Robert Mugabe.

Australian Worker Overpaid By A$500,000, Returns It 4 Weeks Later

A worker in Australia has been paid more than 100 times their normal salary because of a decimal point in the wrong place.

The worker was meant to get a salary of A$4,921.76 but instead found A$492,176 ($360,700; £280,250) in their account.3

The mistake was reported by the territory’s auditor-general who put it down to human error.

But the worker, based in a remote area of the Northern Territory, resisted temptation and returned the money.

The auditor-general noted that the repayment was made four weeks later, but would have been made sooner if the worker had not been based in a remote area and had to travel to a bank.

The report blamed two human errors – the incorrect data entry in the first place and then the failure to deal with a system-generated alert.

It was one of 743 overpayments made by the Northern Territory’s government departments between July 2017 and January 2018, said the report.

Of that, $767,000 has still not been returned by the end of January.

The Department of Corporate and Information Services said overpayments represented about 0.2% of the 1.2m payroll transactions it made in the NT each year.

It said it had put in place several system enhancements to prevent such large overpayments from happening again.

Theresa May To Visit Africa For First Time As PM

Theresa May is preparing to visit Africa for the first time since becoming prime minister in 2016.

Mrs May will fly to South Africa on Tuesday before travelling to Nigeria and Kenya as part of a trade mission aimed at boosting post-Brexit fortunes.

The prime minister said the trip would be a “unique opportunity at a unique time for the UK”.

She added the UK wanted to “deepen and strengthen its global partnerships” as it prepared to leave the EU in 2019.

Mrs May will be accompanied to the three countries – all of them Commonwealth countries – by a 29-strong business delegation.

Security issues will also feature on her agenda and she is expected to discuss the threat of Boko Haram in Nigeria, and the role of British troops based in Kenya who are helping countries fight al-Shabab militants in Somalia.

Tuesday – Mrs May will fly into Cape Town where she will meet young people, before delivering a keynote speech on trade and how UK private sector investment can be brought into Africa.

After a bilateral meeting with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, she is expected to visit Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned.

Wednesday – Mrs May intends to meet Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari in the capital Abuja before meeting victims of modern slavery in Lagos.

Thursday – In Kenya, Mrs May will meet president Uhuru Kenyatta before visiting British troops and a business school. A state dinner hosted by Mr Kenyatta will conclude the trip.

Mrs May’s visit to Nairobi will mark the first by a UK prime minister to Kenya since Margaret Thatcher in 1988.

It is also the first to Sub-Saharan Africa by a British leader since David Cameron in 2013 for Mr Mandela’s memorial service.

Mrs May said a “prosperous, growing and trading Africa” was “in all of our interests”, adding the continent’s “incredible potential will only be realised through a concerted partnership between governments, global institutions and business”.

A Downing Street spokeswoman added: “The PM will use the visit to announce further support to tackle instability across the region, because nations can’t prosper without it.”

During her time in South Africa, Mrs May is also due to present a World War One relic – linked to one of the worst maritime disasters in English waters – to Mr Ramaphosa.

The SS Mendi sank off the Isle of Wight in 1917 killing more than 600 South Africans en route to the Western Front to support British troops.

The ship’s bell was given to BBC reporter Steve Humphrey in 2017 in a plastic bag at Swanage Pier, Dorset, after an anonymous phone call – and will now be handed back by Mrs May.

He should go and rest and enjoy the fruits of his hard work and sacrifices. Most importantly, if he is incapacitated to carry a full work load, then this is not good for the nation which has a huge job of turning around the economy.

Khaya Moyo has no debilitating baggage or scandal. He is well-versed in international politics being an accomplished Ambassador. He is ambitious and competent and will provide positive and healthy jostling with General Chiwenga. He also “softens” the “millitary status” of the ‘cockpit” with his civilian credentials.

Oppah Kashiri provides the necessary anchor for Manicaland and provides a wealth of experience in the way and culture of ZANU-PF. It’s quite important that the political health of any ruling party be maintained well-lubricated.

Political friction will also affect the competence of the ruling party. Therefore a political appointment in the cockpit is vital for the function of government.

Sithembiso Nyoni has been operating SMEs for so long and has been in the President’s Office. The wealth of her administration experience is invaluable.

SMEs are the key to the resuscitation of the economy because they are easy to fund fully, they are quick to start, they have lower overheads and higher profit margins. She has the key to those SMEs and should be at the finger-tips of the President. Since the mantra is now ECONOMICS its important to have a commercial mind of great experience in the cockpit.

Eddie’s most valuable asset is that his credentials will have the TRUST of international banks. It’s also noteworthy that Eddie has confidence in ED and they have worked together before. Confidence in the team captain is paramount in this tight ministry.

MTHULI NCUBE appears as deputy not because of lower credentials but because he has not worked in government before and Eddie can break him in so that when he takes over he has some political experience as well. Otherwise he is eminently competent to run the ministry of finance, politics aside!

These two ministries are mainly active in the urban centres where the MDC dominates. This will also avoid conflicting commands of the nature that resulted in the death of two people in Harare a few months ago.

Mwonzoro is a cool mature head and a lawyer who should be able to deal with the complex issues of strikes, demos and other such mob activities professionally. Mudzuri is a qualified professional who ran the city of Harare better than most since independence. He is also calm and grounded and a professional and the cities would benefit vastly from his abundant expertise and talents. Majome will counter-balance any tendencies towards corruption because that ministry has the greatest temptation of corruption.

I am totally against having two leaders of the winning party and opposition in CABINET—-that will just cause too much politics or equally bad, connivance which will weaken the opposition and result in government disruption or corruption.

This cabinet is not complete. I have merely made suggestions in areas critical to political and economic stability.

“Sanctions Do Not Justify Low Productivity”: Agriculture Minister Tells Farmers

By Own Correspondent| Sanctions effected on Zimbabwe by the British through ZIDERA have no effect on farming and productivity, Lands, Agriculture and Rural Resettlement Minister Perrance Shiri has said.

Shiri said farmers should not use sanctions as an excuse for low productivity adding that sanctions had nothing to do with farming and productivity.

The agriculture minister said because farmers had other resources such as water and land which have nothing to do with sanctions, the onus rested on them to maximise on production.

Reprieve For US Based Pastor, As Harare Magistrate Acquits Him Of Fraud And Forgery

By Own Correspondent| A Harare Magistrate Eric Kadye has acquitted Zimbabwe Conference of Sabbath Keeping Church Pastor Dwight Eric Haynes (61) of fraud and forgery.

Haynes who is an American citizen, was accused of forging a Zimra receipt after allegedly converting $1 500 church money meant for his work permit to his own use.

Haynes however, denied all charges saying that the state’s witness Norman Joel was actually the one who had applied for the permit. He also said that Joel was the custodian of all the receipts.

Magistrate Kandy acquitted Haynes on the basis that there was no evidence of wrongdoing as he was not the custodian of the receipts presented in court as exhibits.-Newsday

Mnangagwa And Chiwenga Clash On Cabinet Selection

By Paul Nyathi|Reports have emerged that President Emmerson Mnangagwa has heavily clashed with his deputy Constantino Chiwenga over who should be in the new cabinet.

Highly placed sources around the presidency indicated that Mnangagwa rejected a cabinet list proposed by Chiwenga which was made up mostly of senior army officials.

The sources further indicated that the two could also not agree over the inclusion of Obert Mpofu in the cabinet.

Chiwenga is reported to haven been strongly against Mpofu being included in the cabinet a proposal which Mnangagwa threw away.

Meanwhile, reports also yet to be confirmed indicate that Mnangagwa is highly interested in including opposition MDC-T leader Nelson Chamisa on his administration.

The sources claim that Mnangagwa has already presented his proposal to Chamisa who has not yet responded.

By Own Correspondent| Newly elected Zanu-PF Senator for Seke, Tabeth Murwira together with 4 other accomplices were hauled before a Chitungwiza magistrate, Yeukai Chigodora jointly charged with kidnapping and destroying a man’s property over a political dispute.

Murwira together with her accomplices, Christopher Mujeyi (51), Cater Matengambiri (59), Kalisto Pemiwa (72) and Lawrence Guwa (65) however pleaded not guilty to th charges levelled against them and their trial is set to start on September 6.

Murwira was implicated in the matter after her vehicle was allegedly used in committing the offence. She however dismissed the claims as unfounded adding that the matter was political.

The court heard that on December 13 2017, Phillip Mashongahande (50) was sleeping in his shop at Cornerstone, Beatrice at night when the suspects arrived.

They knocked on his door and assaulted him the moment he opened it. They allegedly handcuffed Mashongahande and searched his shop.

One of the suspects allegedly tried to set the shop on fire while Mashongahande was inside. They left Mashongahande handcuffed in the shop and he was only rescued the following day by Constable Tinashe Katsuwa.-StateMedia

Man Escapes Prison After Fondling Sister In Law

A BULAWAYO man who fondled his wife’s younger sister and undressed in her presence, has been sentenced to three months in prison.

Onias Moyo, however, breathed a sigh of relief when Western Magistrate Mr Lungile Ncube wholly suspended the sentence on condition that he does not commit a similar offence.

In passing the sentence Mr Ncube said Moyo’s conduct was shameful and he could not be trusted.

On August 13, Moyo was sent by his wife to collect the sister-in-law so they could go to a church camp meeting.

On arrival at home his wife had already left.

Prosecuting Mr Kenneth Shava told the court Moyo took his sister-in-law to the shops where they bought some meat for supper.

When they got back home Moyo locked the door and placed the keys on the table before fondling his sister-in-law’s breast.

She tried pushing him but Moyo threatened her saying he would get her deported back to South Africa where she was attending school.

Moyo stripped naked before his sister-in-law and dragged her to the bedroom.

She managed to escape to her aunt’s place at Entumbane.

A family meeting was held before the matter was reported to the police.

June 2018 Zimsec O’Level Results Out

Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) June 2018 Ordinary Level results are out and centre heads can start collecting them from Zimsec regional offices tomorrow.

Zimsec board chairman Professor Eddie Mwenje made the announcement in a statement yesterday.

“The Zimbabwe School Examinations Council board and management would like to advise the nation of the release of the June 2018 Zimsec Ordinary Level results,” he said.

“Heads of examination centres will be able to collect the results for their respective schools or centres from our regional offices on Wednesday, 29 August 2018.”

Prof Mwenje said there was an increase in candidature this year as compared to last year.

“A total number of 141 246 candidates registered and sat for a range of subjects from one to 10 compared to 78 655 in June 2017,” he said.

“Of the 141 246 registered candidates, 136 were special needs candidates. The total candidature increased by 75 866, a percentage increase of 79,58.”

According to Zimsec, 17 232 school candidates and 124 014 private candidates sat for the June 2018 examination.

Prof Mwenje also highlighted the increase in candidates who sat for five or more subjects.

“The total number of candidates who sat for five or more subjects was 10 974 which is 7, 77 percent of the total candidature while 130 272, (92,23 percent) sat for four or less subjects,” he said.

“In the June 2017 examinations, the number of candidates who sat for five or more subjects was 3 045 constituting 3,89 percent of the total candidature of 78 655.

Prof Mwenje did not indicate the pass rate.

Mugabe Retains Airport Name After Bona Stunt

ZANU PF secretary for legal affairs Munyaradzi Paul Mangwana (pictured) yesterday said they were in no hurry to sever ties with former President Robert Mugabe and to rename the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport as requested by the war veterans.

The developments came in the wake of Mugabe’s decision to send representatives to President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s inauguration on Sunday.

Mugabe, who has previously snubbed national gatherings, sent his daughter Bona and son-in-law Simba Chikore to represent him at his successor’s installation.

Mangwana said there was need for maturity and wisdom in dealing with the war veterans’ demands given that Mugabe appeared to be softening towards the new administration by “showing statesmanship”.

“It is gratifying. That is the kind of message Zimbabwe has been expecting. You heard the applause, we expect that as our founding President, he must occupy that respectable place and today, he behaved just exactly as we expected,” Mangwana said.

“There has been a request to change the Robert [Gabriel] Mugabe International Airport, but government has not taken a decision and so has the party not taken a position. It is a request which has come from some sections within the party, but that request would be considered in light of behaviour and conduct made today (Sunday) and going forward.”

The development was likely to put Zanu PF and the war veterans association on a collision path, with the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans’ Association secretary-general Victor Matemadanda insisting that Mugabe should be banished even after his endorsement of Mnangagwa’s administration as he was a “sellout”.

“We are not convinced with that. I am not sure if he is sincere. I think he is doing that to avoid the name change that we are undertaking at the airport. I don’t see any good reason why he should congratulate ED when, in actual fact, he said he would not vote for him,” he said.

Matemadanda said Mugabe should do more before his former allies rethink their relationship with him, otherwise they would stop at nothing to have him excommunicated and his name removed from the international airport.

Mugabe has previously expressed dislike for his successor’s administration since his ouster in November last year.

On the eve of the July 30 polls, the former head of State announced that he would not vote for Zanu PF, but would throw in his lot with MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa.

Kombi Driver In Trouble For Bumping On Chiwenga’s Vehicle

A 30-YEAR-OLD unlicensed commuter omnibus driver was on Monday remanded in custody for cutting off Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga’s motorcade in Borrowdale, Harare, causing serious damage to the vehicles.

Silent Hungwe was not asked to plead when he appeared before magistrate Rumbidzai Mugwagwa, who remanded him in custody to September 4 pending finalisation of investigations.

Allegations are that on August 24 along Borrowdale Road at the intersection of Kingsmead, Hungwe was driving due south and, in his bid to avoid vehicles that had blocked the road, hit Chiwenga’s vehicle on the rear side.

Although no injuries were recorded, both vehicles sustained serious damages.

OPINION: Zimbabwe Needs A Rebirth; Women Must Play A Central Part

Dear Editor|The situation of women in Zimbabwe has been gradually deteriorating since the country gained its independence from Britain in 1980. As one who grew up in the country at a time when things were still relatively fine, I can still vividly recall the easy-go kind of life we led then.

As little girls, we completely enjoyed our childhoods, without having to worry about the cares of the world, something which cannot be said of today’s girls who have to do something to assist the family that is if they are not heading it altogether. In the past all the basic requirements were provided for.

As little kids we had plenty of time to play by in the streets and had access to good, nutritious food as well as snacks between meals.

The country celebrated two important holidays this week which are the Heroes Day and Defence Forces Day. Heroes Day is a day set aside to commemorate the fallen liberation war fighters whose sacrifice made it possible for Zimbabwe to gain independence in 1980.

However Zimbabwe has just proved to be a classic case of the phenomenal “from riches to rags.” At independence Zimbabwe was just an envy of many but alas, some bad influence started crippling in with record corruption levels eating away the riches of our country.

Like a greedy herd boy who milks his master’s cows and sell the milk for a song, the once liberation war heroes turned themselves tyrants and villains. With a little effort, they reversed all the progress that Zimbabwe had achieved. The once breadbasket of Southern Africa is now a basket case.

What surprises me is that those we accuse of destroying the country have always found themselves back into power. It’s now 38 years after Independence but with nothing to show for it and we wonder if the fallen heroes we were commemorating on Monday are not turning in their graves.

Each electoral season we emerge a more divided nation, what a shame on us. It affects the economy too.

Zimbabwe just needs a break from all the drama of selfish politicians. The country needs a rebirth. I yearn for a country where exactly the opposite in terms of leadership style becomes the order of the day.

The question is who is going to be our saviour, who is going to be our next heroes now?

I think it’s time for all men and women of valour to stand up. The largely male dominated leadership has brought us to where we are now. Not discrediting their contribution during the liberation war, we are now in a phase where our leadership style must change and allow young women and men to take over. It is the skill that one has that must count and not the proximity to power.

Zimbabwe’s rebirth lies in all its citizens, both men and women who have something new to offer away from the ruinous politics of the male dominated, corruption ridden and continuously recycled Zanu PF leadership.

A rebirth which acknowledges that we are all equal citizens in practice and anyone who has the best idea must be listened to.

In this rebirth I challenge my fellow women to emerge out of this messy and be the country’s new crop of heroes. Women must rise up and defeat patriarchy that has shaped our ideology to think that we will not move forward without this failed crop of leaders that have ruled us for the past 38 years.

Women seriously need to build self-confidence and take up key positions of power and influence. It is time for a rebirth and it’s time to stand and break the propaganda that only men can do it.

What we enjoyed as little kids must be the basic privilege of everyone. We need a rebirth where both men and women of character reshape our national vision and allowed to play a part in the reawakening of Zimbabwe.

End Of Indigenisation Laws, Canadian Company Retains Majority Holding At Blanket Mine

CALEDONIA Mining Corporation of Canada has gained a controlling stake at its subsidiary Blanket Mine after purchasing 15 percent shares from Fremiro Private Investments Limited.

Caledonia, which owned 49 percent shares of the business, entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Fremiro with the intention to purchase Fremiro’s 15 percent shareholding at the Gwanda-based mine.

The move is in line with previous public statements where Caledonia expressed interest in increasing its shareholding at Blanket Mine.

In a statement released on Friday, Caledonia chief executive Mr Steve Curtis said the group was pleased with the transaction, which remains subject to approval from various Zimbabwean regulatory authorities and the execution of a legally binding sale agreement.

“We are very pleased to increase our shareholding in Blanket to a majority stake, moving from 49 percent to 64 percent following this transaction. Blanket Mine has been an excellent investment for Caledonia since we originally invested in Zimbabwe in 2006 and we are delighted to be able to increase our shareholding in this outstanding asset,” he said.

“Today’s transaction forms an important step in our stated goal of increasing our shareholding in Blanket since the Zimbabwean government removed the indigenisation requirement for gold mining businesses earlier this year.”

Government has reviewed the indigenisation laws by scrapping the 51/49 percent requirement on major natural resources’ investments except for diamond and platinum minerals. According to Mr Curtis, Caledonia will acquire Fremiro’s shareholding in Blanket for a gross consideration of $16,667 million to be settled through a combination of the cancellation of the loan between the two entities which stood at $11,467 million as at June 30, 2018 and the issue of 727 266 new shares in Caledonia at an issue price of $7,15 per share. On completion of the transaction, Fremiro will hold 6,42 percent of Caledonia’s diluted equity.

Fremiro acquired its 15 percent shareholding in Blanket when Caledonia implemented transactions in 2012 in compliance with the Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment Act. As part of the transaction, Caledonia sold 41 percent of Blanket Mine to other players. This saw Fremiro getting (15 percent), the National Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment Fund (16 percent) and the Blanket Employee Trust Services Private Limited (10 percent).

In addition, 10 percent of Blanket Mine was donated to the local community in the form of the Gwanda Community Share Ownership Trust.

Mr Curtis also highlighted that Blanket Mine is well-advanced in implementing the investment programme, which commenced in early 2015 and is expected to result in Blanket achieving an annual production rate of at least 80 000 ounces per annum by 2021, at a low cash cost. The investment plan is expected to extend the life of the mine by providing access to deeper levels for production and further exploration.

Mr Curtis said Caledonia is evaluating further investment opportunities in Zimbabwe.

“Such new opportunities, if they result in one or more transactions, are likely to be held directly by Caledonia and/or its subsidiaries rather than by Blanket. By moving its participation up from Blanket to Caledonia, Fremiro is well-positioned to participate with Caledonia in any further investment opportunities,” he said, adding that they look forward to evaluating further investment opportunities in Zimbabwe as they become available. Caledonia remains on track to achieve the production target of 80 000 ounces by 2021 at Blanket.

Man Sentenced To 25 Years For Rape Committed 11 Years Ago

A 29-YEAR-OLD man from Mvuma who had been on the run for seven years after raping and robbing a passenger in his vehicle, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Patrick Chakuwamba of Mucheri village, Chaka in Mvuma appeared before Gweru Regional Magistrate Mrs Phathekile Msipa facing rape and robbery charges

Chakuwamba had been on the run since 2011 when he committed the offence.

He denied the charges claiming that he had consensual sex with the complainant (name withheld to protect her identity) accusing her of being a lady of the night.

Mrs Msipa convicted Chakuwamba after a full trial and sentenced him to 20 years for rape and 5 years for robbery.

Chakuwamba will, however serve an effective 18 and half years in prison after six and half years were suspended on condition of good behaviour.

During trial, a friend of the complainant said she was the target of the rape but Chakuwamba turned to the first complainant after learning that she was on her menstrual period.

“I was seated in front when he said he wanted to sleep with me. I told him that I was on my menstrual period and because he doubted me, he forced his fingers down my private parts,” she said.

Chakuwamba, the complainant said, then tied her friend with a cable before raping her twice.

It is the State’s case that on May 19, 2011 Chakuwamba met the first complainant at Chicken Slice Complex in Mvuma where she was looking for transport to Beitbridge.

Chakuwamba offered to transport the complainant and her friend who boarded his vehicle before he drove off towards Masvingo.

On approaching the 223km peg along Harare-Masvingo road, Chakuwamba pulled off the road and disembarked.

He armed himself with an iron bar and took an electrical cable from the bonnet of his car.

The court heard that Chakuwamba initially wanted to rape the complainant’s friend but she was saved by being on her menstrual periods.

Chakuwamba tied the friend up with an electrical cable and ordered the complainant to lie down on the back seat of the car and raped her once using a condom. After 30 minutes of rest, he raped her once more but without using a condom.

The accused person robbed the complainant and her friend of $25, two pairs of trousers, two Samsung cell phones and a bottle of perfume.

Chakuwamba forced them off his vehicle and drove off. Total value stolen was $120 and nothing was recovered.

A report was made to the police but Chakuwamba fled before he could be arrested.

He was however, arrested this year following a tip off. Mr Kelvin Guveya appeared for the State.

Daring Zimbabwean Thug Who Escaped From Police Custody Rearrested In S.A.

By Paul Nyathi| One of the two Zimbabwean awaiting trial prisoners, who escaped while being transported in a State vehicle in Limpopo South Africa, was rearrested on Friday.

South African Police spokesman Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said Petrus “Small” Moyo was rearrested at Ga-Mushi village, outside Lephalale on Friday evening.

Moyo and fellow Zimbabwean Witness Simango were arrested for murder and house robberies. They cut open the roof of the moving police truck, jumped off and vanished in the bushes earlier on Friday. Police were transporting the prisoners from Lephalale to Polokwane when the incident happened.

Moyo faces charges of murder, house-breaking, and theft. He was confirmed to have entered South Africa illegally. Simango was linked to a series of house robberies and burglary in Lephalale and surrounding areas.

Now they’ve a new scapegoat.
On the eve of the 30 July election, they said a vote for Chamisa was a vote for Mugabe. And on the eve of the ConCourt decision, they again pointed fingers at Mugabe, who appointed the bench. After the ConCourt sided with them, they needed a new bogeyman:Jonathan Moyo. LMAO! Me Chamisa’s advisor? I’m flattered to learn from the reliable Sunday Mail that, out of the blue, the junta has appointed me as Nelson Chamisa’s advisor.

I hope Chamisa will confirm

ZEC Says We’re Cleared Now

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) yesterday said it was relishing the ruling of the Constitutional Court and reports from observer missions that it superintended over a credible election.

The Constitutional Court on Friday ruled against MDC Alliance presidential candidate Advocate Nelson Chamisa who had filed an application challenging President Mnangagwa’s victory, alleging electoral malpractice.

He however, failed to produce evidence to support his case resulting in the Chief Justice Luke Malaba sitting with eight other ConCourt judges dismissing his case with costs.

The court upheld President Mnangagwa’s electoral victory declaring him the President of Zimbabwe and he was sworn into office on Sunday.

In an interview yesterday, Zec Acting Chief Elections Officer Mr Utoile Silaigwana said the apex court’s ruling dispelled unfounded claims that the commission rigs elections.

“ZEC has been vindicated by the Constitutional Court which shows that Zec conducted this election in terms of the Electoral Law. The election was credible hence it was also proved through the petition which went through the Constitutional Court,” said Mr Silaigwana.

He said inviting international observers was a plus for the commission as preliminary reports by most observer missions have credited Zec for running the election in a professional manner.

Government invited international observers to watch as the country’s citizens chose their political leaders.
The pre-election environment was peaceful serve for post election violence sparked by the MDC Alliance that was refusing to accept results, before most of them had been announced. The incident in Harare claimed six lives.

“The lessons we are learning through inviting observers is that it is important to have observers as most of them have given us the thumbs up on the electoral process. It’s a lesson that we need to stick to the Electoral Law as was done,” Mr Silaigwana said.

“We are still to get the full reports. But from the preliminary reports we have received, the observers are saying the elections were conducted professionally.”

The Acting Chief Elections Officer said Zec was also impressed with the upsurge in the number of people who voted.

He said more than 85 percent of registered voters voted on July 30 compared to past elections which attracted just over 50 percent of the registered voters.

Mr Silaigwana said the electorate should accept the poll outcomes as the country’s democracy was enhanced.

“I think it’s important for our citizens to accept the outcomes of the elections, particularly an election like this one which was observed by the whole world. It was confirmed by the observer missions that the election was credible. So it is important for us to accept the outcomes of a credible election,” he said.

Khupe Demands $1,8 mln From Chamisa

The MDC-T led by Dr Thokozani Khupe says it will soon take MDC Alliance leader Mr Nelson Chamisa to court claiming $1,8 million he received under the Political Parties Finance Act for the 2018 campaign.

Dr Khupe’s party claims it is the legitimate MDC-T and that Mr Chamisa illegitimately received the funds because he contested the poll using a different name.
Under the Political Parties Finance Act, only serious political parties who would have garnered at least five percent of the total vote were eligible for the funding.

MDC-T, which was led by Mr Tsvangirai, in terms of the Act, is the one entitled to the funding.

However, after the demise of the former party leader Mr Morgan Tsvangirai in February, a leadership wrangle ensued between Mr Chamisa and Dr Khupe.

Ultimately, Dr Khupe registered to contest in this year’s election under MDC-T while Mr Chamisa chickened out and opted to participate as leader of the MDC Alliance.
Under unclear circumstances, Mr Chamisa’s MDC received $1,8 million funding from Government despite the fact that it was no longer part of the MDC-T.

In an interview, MDC-T deputy president Mr Obert Gutu said that his party had since instructed Professor Lovemore Madhuku to sue the MDC over the $1,8 million fraud.
“We have since instructed our lawyer Professor Madhuku to file a claim for the $1,8 million.
“The money was wrongly disbursed to Mr Chamisa’s MDC when it was meant for the MDC-T which participated in the 2013 election.

“I am yet to meet Prof Madhuku and we map the way forward,” he said.
Meanwhile, Zanu-PF lawyers said they also intend to sue Mr Chamisa’s party over legal costs in the hyped presidential petition which was dismissed by the Constitutional Court on Friday with costs.
Mr Chamisa sought to overturn President-elect Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa’s July 30 election victory, but the ConCourt unanimously dismissed his challenge.

Speaking to our Harare Bureau on Saturday, Zanu-PF Secretary for Legal Affairs Cde Paul Mangwana said the ruling party’s lawyers were quantifying the exact amount due to them, but they had indicated an approximate bill of $3 million.

That figure excludes the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission’s legal bill.
Cde Mangwana said the final bill required approval of the Registrar of the Court.
He said in the event Mr Chamisa failed to pay, the opposition leader risked losing his personal property.

Meanwhile, the cash-strapped opposition MDC Alliance has once again sent begging bowls to raise $3 million to foot the legal costs for their Constitutional Court electoral petition and is seeking more money to fund its case at the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR).

The judgement handed by the Constitutional Court carried a punitive condition requiring Mr Chamisa to pay the legal costs of everyone involved.

In bid to raise this money, the party launched an ‘I donate to protect our vote’ campaign on the Gofundme website on Sunday, appealing to both Diaspora and local supporters to donate for a “good cause.”

The Alliance, which has hit hard times, survived the election period from hand-outs from well-wishers who funded its campaign.

The MDC’s situation has been worsened by donor fatigue and a series of blunders over the years, its poor performance in the inclusive government that ran between 2009 and 2013 key among them.

In a Facebook post, MDC National Deputy Treasurer Mr Chalton Hwende said people can send their donations via EcoCash or make their donations online at gofundme.com .

He has also appealed to well wishers across the world to support it with the costs of suit at the Constitutional Court and African Union appeal, whose bill is not yet known.

MDC Alliance leader Mr Nelson Chamisa has taken his fight to overturn President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s recent electoral victory to the African Commission for Human and People’s Rights following the dismissal of his petition last Friday.

After the declaration of Cde Mnangagwa’s victory by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission on August 3, Mr Chamisa filed a ConCourt application challenging the victory, arguing that the whole electoral process had been marred by irregularities and massive poll fraud.

But his petition was dismissed with costs by the full bench of the ConCourt led by Chief Justice Luke Malaba on grounds that he failed to provide sufficient primary evidence to prove the alleged irregularities.

But in a statement that goes against the $3 million appeal, the Alliance has said the estimated figure is too high and the legal costs “can’t exceed $20 000”.

“The costs are taxed and allowed by the Registrar of the court, taking into account the exact hours spent. It can’t even go up to $20 000. Besides, the costs awarded are not on a higher scale. It’s just costs on an ordinary scale. People like Paul Mangwana must stop inciting our people,” said Mr Hwende on social media.

The MDC Alliance said they will meet tomorrow (Wednesday) to plot a way forward. The party has rejected the call by President Mnangagwa to put differences aside and move forward together as a nation.- state media

Mnangagwa Dishes Out 90 Brand New Cars To Chiefs

Zimbabwe’s internal and international engagement was exhibited at President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s inauguration in Harare yesterday.

Mnangagwa said this while addressing traditional leaders at the handing over of more than 90 Isuzu vehicles to chiefs in Harare today.

He said the handing over of the vehicles to traditional leaders is in line with his promise soon after taking over the reigns of power last year, when he said chiefs need to be respected and should have decent transport and accommodation.
President Mnangagwa, who pledged to avail more resources to chiefs, said he delayed distributing the vehicles during the election period as this could have been misconstrued by some.

He also said foreign leaders and some local political leaders who attended his inauguration is a sign of respect given to him and his government, adding that the absence of the MDC Alliance leadership at the National Sports Stadium yesterday is a sign of immaturity on the part of the leaders.

Marry stated that the country’s flagship beauty contest should be a scandal-free pageant, where the queen is identified on merit and crowned on professional grounds.

She is currently the pageant’s licence holder of the global event in Zimbabwe.

Speaking to the aspiring models vying for this year’s crown who are currently in boot-camp in Harare, marry told the beauties to report any form of abuse during the boot camp.

“As you are here in boot camp, there is no difference as you are at home, so let me advise you that no one must pressurize or abuse you in any way with claims that they might be closer to me as the Miss World Zimbabwe licence holder. Even those who are closer to me they don’t have the capacity to influence the crowning of the queen, this cannot happen at all, let professionalism carry the day,” she said.

“Those men who are facilitating your grooming progression as part of this boot camp program must be treated as your brothers or fathers as they are not potential boyfriends or husbands. City Of Bulawayo Introduces Stringent Water Rationing

|The City of Bulawayo has sent a warning to citizens of the second capital that it will be resuming stringent water rationing programme in some of the areas in the city.

The City blamed the water rationing on pumping challenges on the popular Magwegwe water reservoir.

“The City of Bulawayo would like to advise members of the public and stakeholders that there is an ongoing exercise to normalise the Magwegwe Reservoir level. The level has been critical for the past two weeks, due to erratic pumping from Nyamandlovu Aquifer,” said the Town Clerk Christopher Dube in a statement.

The statement further reads:

“The boreholes have been affected mainly by power failure. ZETDC is working to restore the power supply and therefore increase the boreholes pumping to the City.

In a bid to manage water supply from the Reservoir. Council would like to advise that there will be an emergency interruption of water supplies to the following areas fed directly from the Criterion and Magwegwe Reservoirs and some surrounding areas.

• Cowdray Park
• Mganwini

Residents are advised that the programme is subject to change should the Reservoir level improve or deteriorate beyond the critical level.

All high areas that are likely to be affected for more than 24 hours will be supplied by water Bowsers.

Kagame Wines And Dines With Mnangagwa Leaving 36 Yr Old Lady In Jail For Challenging Him In Elections

By Paul Nyathi|Highly acclaimed Rwandan President Paul Kagame was in Zimbabwe over the weekend smiling and laughing with his newly elected Zimbabwean counterpart Emmerson Mnangagwa with very few Zimbabweans aware that he has been holding a young women in custody for a year for challenging him at the 2017 elections.

Tuesday will mark exactly one year to date that Diane Rwigara was arrested by police in Rwanda on trumped up numerous charges her crime being challenging Kagame at the election.

Diane Rwigara was originally charged with forgery and tax evasion alongside her mother in September, 2017. A few months earlier she was prevented from running for president against current leader Paul Kagame and later accused of forging signatures of support during her application.

During her campaign, nude photos appearing to show Rwigara circulated online but she says the images were fake.

Kagame went on to win the election by a world breaking 98% landslide in August and Rwigara was soon arrested with her mother and sister. In October, prosecutors then charged the trio with attempting to incite insurrection, which means they could be looking at lengthy prison sentences.

In March, the Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) auctioned property owned by the family for $599,040 (Rwf512 million) to contribute towards more than $5.85 million (Rwf5 billion) in tax arrears.

Diane has remained in prison against calls from various human rights organisations for her release.

Mnangagwa To Embark On “Thank You Zimbabwe” Tour

Newly sworn in President elect Emmerson Mnangagwa is set to embark on a countrywide tour to thank Zimbabweans for voting him and Zanu PF in the just ended July 30 harmonised elections.

Mnangagwa will take this opportunity to outline Government’s programme on devolution of power.

President Mnangagwa revealed this when he handed over 90 cars to chiefs to fulfill Government’s commitment to improve the welfare of the traditional leaders.

Said Mnangagwa:

“We are going to have rallies in your respective areas to thank the people for voting me into power.

We will be saying the message of peace that we have been saying all along and we will also announce plans we have to improve provincial economies because we do not want everything to be centred on Harare.

Woes Mount For MDC Led By Nelson Chamisa: As Sheriff Issues Writ To Attach Property

By Own Correspondent| The MDC faction led by Nelson Chamisa is set to lose its property amid revelations that the Sheriff of the High Court has been instructed to attach its property over labour damages amounting to $264 000.

The labour damages, owed to its former director general Mr Toendepi Shonhe will see the party lose its property at its headquarters, Morgan Tsvangirai House in Harare.

Last week Mr Shonhe obtained a writ of execution which empowers and directs the Sheriff to attach property.

MDC unfairly dismissed 17 employees, including Mr Shonhe, from work and the Labour Court confirmed an arbitral award compelling the party to pay damages to the 17 workers.

Reads the writ:

“You (Sheriff) are required and directed to attach and take into execution the movable goods of the Movement for Democratic Change (Tsvangirai) 44 Nelson Mandela Avenue, Harare the above mentioned respondent of the same to be realised the sum of US$264 444 together with cost of suit for the above-named applicant Toendepi Shonhe, which he recovered by a court order of this court on the 20th day of July 2017 granted by this honourable court in the above mentioned suit.”

Recently, Labour Court judge Justice Betty Chidziva, with the concurrence of Justice Lawrence Murasi, struck off the roll a labour appeal by the MDC-T, a development that exposed the political outfit’s property execution.

MDC owes the 17 workers a total of $665 000 but the writ is in respect of Mr Shonhe’s $264 444.

Civil Society Refuses To Back Chamisa On Mass Protests Call

MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa’s plans to roll out protests in the wake of Friday’s decision by the Constitutional Court (Con-Court) to uphold President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s hotly-disputed victory in last month’s polls might spectacularly backfire, social and political analysts content.

They also believe this action is misdirected and a wrong strategy because whipping up emotions will not get him to State House, at least for now.

On Saturday, Chamisa told a media briefing: “It is a constitutional option (demonstrations) and very viable. We have demonstrated two or three times successfully without any problems. We just want to put mechanisms to make sure that we don’t have people who come and disrupt our programme. I can tell you we have the right to demonstrate. This is going to be one of the routes which we are going to take among others.

“Victory can’t be certain twice, victory was certain before election and secured during the Election Day. We won, what we are doing now is protecting that victory; we will continue to pursue democratic means to make sure that result is respected. We cannot afford five more years in this kind of hardships, people want answers.”

Chamisa said they are ready to sacrifice their lives in defending people’s votes.

“They think that perhaps they will intimidate people like myself but I am dead already, by merely challenging dictatorship you have signed a death warrant so they can’t kill me twice. We are very clear and we are not going to be intimidated that’s why we are ready for any eventuality they can’t run the country by terror.

“The legal door is not the only door to happiness and democracy, there are many other doors, and the political doors are going to be opened very soon using our Constitution. We have the right to peaceful demonstrations and protests that is going to be done in the shortest period of time.”

Political analyst MacDonald Lewanika said if Chamisa wants to fight on, it is well in his rights to do so, but the consequences of such actions must find him prepared.

“Politics is also the art of the possible, and at the moment the cake he says he won’t share with Mnangagwa is actually a cake that he doesn’t have — he has nothing to share.

“A real danger is that this need for continued resistance will not be matched by a similar appetite from his supporters and Zimbabweans in general, who see this presidential fight as lost and would like to move on to focusing on how to survive under the Zanu PF regime and continuing economic challenges.

“Zanu PF will push the narrative that he is petty and a sour loser, while others will see him as an unrepentant fighter for his just desserts.

“At the end of the day it is about Chamisa staying in touch with the pulse of a people, who are generally not known to be persuaded to the kind of radical positioning he is pitching.

“Zimbabweans have been known to be risk averse and the likelihood is that the onward march to challenging the presidential results through mass action, which has already proved to be not just futile but also fatal, will be a march that he will make with less and less people.

“History has recorded that Chamisa believes he won the election but was cheated out of victory, the legal process denied this claim but the court of public opinion largely agrees with him.

“If I were Chamisa, I would bank the public sympathy and turn it into future political capital — attempting to spend it now through mass action will prove to be a waste, and come across as lacking the political maturity to roll with the punches, taking your hits and living to fight another day,” said Lewanika.

He added that Zanu PF and its “varakashi” will portray this as intolerance and a total disrespect of political and democratic processes that Chamisa entered into willingly and knowing the odds against him.

“It will feed into a bad narrative that Chamisa cannot lose, and believes that everything but a win for Chamisa is a wrong outcome — such traits are not attractive and will begin to undermine the formidable political capital that he had built over the last six months.”

Media and political analyst Rashweat Mukundu said the right to protest is constitutionally-guaranteed and protected.

“As a political strategy the MDC Alliance must however, consider its effectiveness in achieving the desired end. In my view Chamisa must keep his power base energised through mobilisation and political awareness.

“The Con-Court case is sufficient basis to seek electoral reforms that could make the 2023 election far better. Age is on Chamisa’s side and all he needs are equally capable lieutenants to prepare for the next election.

“The MDC Alliance must use its presence in Parliament to monitor Zanu PF actions and use its dominance in urban councils to address residents’ issues. Political mobilisation is more sustainable than protests.

Political analyst Piers Pigou said protests are not unexpected tactics in the circumstances, but they must be tied to a clear strategy that pushes a reform programme tied to constitutional deficits, realignment, institutional reform and that holds Mnangagwa to his reform commitments as laid out in GoZ presentation in DC in April.

“Peaceful protest is important expression, but can Zimbabwe’s security forces be trusted to act professionally. This is a major worry after post-election events.

“Mnangagwa says his door is open to Chamisa. He is now president and must proactively reach out, not sit his hands.

Political analyst Maxwell Saungweme said after running a successful campaign on a shoe-string budget and “you garner over two million out of five million votes and for some reason your victory is stolen, and you go to the nation’s apex court you knew was captured and lost, the logical thing to do is not mobilising people to oppose a court decision. That will border on illegality.

“What I would advise Chamisa if I was in his inner-circle is to use whatever resources and popularity he has now to do the following: quickly call all party leadership at all levels to a strategic retreat and genuinely reflect on what happened, where the party did well and areas in need of improvement, including 2013 lessons not learnt from. Then do a party elective congress, have a proper leadership structure, formalise a party name, go to rural and urban areas to set and strengthen structures. Then start selling your message of alternative policies and approaches to your supporters first so that they know exactly how different you will be from the current regime.”

Saungweme said let the mobilisation for an action be bottom-up and not top-down. “Top-down protests tend to be urban-based and negate the views and wishes of where the bulk of the voters are — rural areas. “With the level of organisation shown by the MDC Alliance during polls where they could not field council and MP candidates in all constituencies and polling agents at all polling stations, unorganised demonstrations will not be sustained and will fizzle within a few weeks, if not days, with blood of the innocent people potentially lost from heavy-handed State responses.

“Zimbabwe is our home and leaders should be acting in manners that build national cohesion than dividing us. Look at the November 2017 coup; it was a Harare thing that did not get buy-in from people in the rural areas, hence contributed to Mnangagwa’s poor showing in the presidential poll.”

Human rights lawyer Dewa Mavhinga said: “As human rights activists we do not prescribe what political strategies political leaders should take save to note that the route to approach the Con-Court is enshrined in the Constitution, just like the right to peacefully demonstrate which is protected by section 59 of the Zimbabwe Constitution.

“Whichever political strategy one pursues, it is important that the rule of law and human rights are protected in the process. The violence and use of excessive force by the security forces on August 1 should not happen again.”

Elections Resource Centre director Tawanda Chimhini said demonstrations are a constitutional expression of political rights.

“The decision by the opposition to use such an option in the aftermath of the decision of the Con-Court is an opportunity for the new administration to exhibit the respect for the rule of law and protect the Constitution. The option to demonstrate must also be approached with the necessary responsibility to abstain from any action that may be deemed as illegal. Regardless of what options political stakeholders take, Zimbabwe must definitely find a sustainable way to extricate itself from a cycle of failed electoral and democratic processes. “All options adopted must put Zimbabwe first,” said Chimhini.

Political analyst Vivid Gwede said without a doubt it is within Chamisa’s democratic rights to express himself on both the outcome of the election and the court.

“This is important in highlighting the reality of captured public institutions in Zimbabwe and the need for the continuation of the democratic agenda. Everyone gave the Zec and the courts the benefit of doubt but these institutions do not seem to have lived up to their duties satisfactorily. In light of this reality, the Constitution affords citizens, including the aggrieved MDC Alliance leadership, political rights to campaign for a cause which their conscience justifies.

“As you can see, the MDC Alliance has taken varied post-election strategies to put its grievances on the table, including that they will approach the African Commission for Human and People’s rights to protest the outcome of the Constitutional Court. Chamisa is right that in all this struggle, there is need to mobilise and explain to the people how he thinks they have been shortchanged because in the final calculation the people matter going forward.”

Mugabe And Grace Unwell

Paul Nyathi|Former Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe says he and his wife Grace are unwell.

The 94-year-old revealed this in a surprise congratulatory message sent to President Emmerson Mnangagwa at his inauguration ceremony on Sunday. Mugabe apologised that he and his wife couldn’t be at the inauguration ceremony.

In a letter read out by Mnangagwa, the former president said his wife is unwell and in Singapore. He also said he wasn’t well, which is why he sent his daughter Bona and her husband Simba Chikore to stand in for them.

Mugabe gave no details on what he and his wife were suffering from. But his congratulatory note took many by surprise.

Case Was More Than Chamisa vs Mnangagwa It Was People vs Zanu PF – We Were Cheated Again.

Opinion By: Wilbert Mukori|The single most important issue raised in Nelson Chamisa’s Con-Court challenge of Emmerson Mnangagwa’s electoral victory was that the election process was not free, fair and credible. This is important because it is our repeated failure to hold free elections has landed us in this economic and political mess. And, of immediate importance to us all, until we hold free and fair elections, we are not getting out of the mess.

Given Zimbabwe’s checked history of rigged elections and the tragic and dire consequences this repeated failure to hold free, fair and credible elections have brought to the entire nation. It was therefore wrong for Chief Justice Luke Malaba and his fellow eight Chief Justices to consider the case before the court mere as a Chamisa vs Mnangagwa and ZEC. It was a lot more than that, it was The People of Zimbabwe vs Zanu PF and its surrogate undemocratic institutions.

Zimbabwe is in a serious economic mess, no one can ever dispute that point, with unemployment a nauseating 90% and 3 out of 4 Zimbabweans living on US$1.00 or less a day. It is a well-established fact the country is in this mess because of 38 years of corrupt and tyrannical rule, which even the hardliner Zanu PF supporters like President Mnangagwa and his junta have since accepted and hence their justification for staging the coup last November.

“We are only targeting criminals around (Mugabe), who are committing crimes that are causing social and economic suffering in the country, in order to bring them to justice,” the coup spokesman, Major General and now Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sibusiso Moyo announced in the small hours of 15 November 2017.

Ever since the coup President Mnangagwa and the junta have again and again tried to put distance between the Mugabe era and the post-coup era, insisting this was a new democratic dispensation. They have even promised to hold free, fair and credible elections, to underline their commitment to democratic rule and values.

So the importance of Zimbabwe holding free, fair and credible elections as the only sure way to end the country’s very serious economic situation in obvious to all especially the country’s learned and who is more so than a Con-Court judges. The issue of whether these elections were free, fair and credible was of great national importance; far beyond the individual or party political interest of Nelson Chamisa and MDC Alliance and Emmerson Mnangagwa and Zanu PF respectively. To listen to Chief Justice Malaba deliver the Con-Court decision one could not help but feel the Chief Justice considered the case a personal matter.

Whilst the Chief Justice did not deny that there were very serious irregularities in the conduct of these elections such as ZEC’s failure to release a clean and verified voters’ roll although this is a legal requirement; ZEC’s failure to record cases where individuals had requested and were allowed to cast the presidential vote only, also a legal requirement; etc. He went to town in explaining that the full import of these irregularities were lost because the applicant, Nelson Chamisa, had failed to demand that the sealed ballot boxes must be opened so the quality of the voters’ roll could be ascertained, that no record of those casting presidential ballots only was kept, etc.

It is a historic fact that Zanu PF did bus its supporters around in the 2013 elections who were able to cast multiple votes but with no verified voters’ roll, the smoking gun, it was impossible to prove anything. With no verified voters’ roll again this year there is a distinct possibility that Zanu PF would have tried the same or similar vote rigging tactics.

Agreed, Chamisa should have exercised his right as the applicant to demand access to the contents of the sealed ballot boxes, “primary source evidence,” as the Chief Justice called it, and based his court challenge on that evidence. He did not and so his case collapsed and rightly so too!

But since this case was a lot more than Chamisa vs Mnangagwa but The people of Zimbabwe vs the Zanu PF dictatorship it was incumbent on the judges to demand that the sealed ballot boxes must be opened so that the court’s judgement on this matter is itself based on the primary source evidence.

Whilst underlining the reason why Chamisa’s case had failed because it failed to produce “primary source evidence” one tell that no one was more relieved that no ballot boxes had been opened that the Chief Justice himself and his fellow eight judges. Of course, they know that the elections were rigged and opening those 11 000 plus ballot boxes would have been the equivalent of opening the graves of 11 000 mass murder victims. Each with its own individual identity and its own gruesome horror tale to tell! The stench would have been nauseating.

It is common knowledge that these elections were rigged. By failing to keep his promise to hold free, fair and credible elections President Mnangagwa and his coup junta friends have consolidated their iron grip on power but at a very high price. They have also reaffirmed to the world that his new democratic dispensation was a lie, Zimbabwe is still a pariah state ruled by vote-rigging thugs.

Justice was not served by Con-Court confirming Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa as the duly elected president when the court itself, not just Chamisa, failed to bring out the primary source evidence everyone knows would have proven beyond doubt that the elections were rigged. Indeed, the betrayal by both Chamisa and Con-Court in demanding the opening of ballot boxes will go down in history as yet another golden opportunity to end the Zanu PF dictatorship that was wasted!

Mnangagwa’s Traditional Chief Interred

The late Chief Mapanzure who died on Wednesday evening has been laid to rest at his homestead in the Mapanzure area near Zvishavane.

Mourners who include top government officials joined the Mapanzure community at the burial of Chief Mapanzure.

In his address at the burial, President of the Chief’ S Council Chief Fortune Charumbira said the Mapanzure family should remain united and celebrate the legacy left behind by a hero in traditional leadership.

“The death of Chief Mapanzure should not bring sorry instead it should bring jubilation for the people of this area who voted for ED,” said Chief Charumbira.

Chief mourner Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing Cde July Moyo said the death of Chief Mapanzure is a blow as he was a fountain of knowledge.

Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Dr Misheck Sibanda paid tribute to all individuals and corporates who stood with the Mapanzure family during trying times.

“As a family we are humbled by the gesture shown by the people in taking responsibility of the funeral,” said Dr Sibanda.

Addressing mourners on Friday, President-elect Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa who hails from the Mapanzure clan said they is no rush to talk of the replacement to the chief as Collen Shonhayi will hold fort for two years.

Chief Mapanzure died at the age of 96.

He is survived by 10 children and 61 great grandchildren.

Residents Confront City Council Bosses Over Water Crisis

Residents of the ancient city of Masvingo have accused the city council of dismally failing to address the water crisis in the country’ s oldest town.

In a statement yesterday Masvingo Residents’ Trust Advocacy Officer Ephraim Mutombeni urged the local authority to address the critical shortage of water as a matter of urgency.

“The city council has chosen to remain mum in the wake of the critical water crisis the city is facing.

We have now gone for 5 days without water and the local authority has been silent.

We are demanding answers from the city council bosses. Why are they taking residents for granted? They must consider the gravity of the matter.

The council must come up with a permanent solution to the water crisis.

ZANU PF Says Chamisa Case Was Irrelevant And He “Can Go And Hang.”

|The ruling ZANU PF says that it has learnt a lesson from the recent Constitutional Court on the outcome of the Presidential election appeal by opposition leader Nelson Chamisa.

The party Deputy Secretary for Legal Affairs Munyaradzi Paul Mangwana told weekend media that the party learnt a lesson that it must never leave elections to chance.

Mangwana said that the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission is the one that has got to be worried on issues raised by the court not themselves as a party.

“For Zanu PF, the whole test was useless because it had no basis. The lessons learnt are not for Zanu PF, but probably to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec),” he said.

“The only lesson we should draw from that is that we should campaign harder and win resoundingly next time because the MDC Alliance was taking advantage of the slender margin we had to think that they should have been victorious.”

Mangwana expressed concerns at the ZANU PF “bhora musango” tactic which saw members of parliament get far much more votes than their presidential candidate Emmerson Mnangagwa.

“We now need to sell our presidential candidate in a stronger way and ensure that in the future he wins by the same margin like in the parliamentary elections.”

Mangwana disputed on-going speculations that ZANU PF are involved in any talks for a unity governmemt with the MDC or Chamisa indicating that the opposition party could “go and hang.”

“We do not need to talk to them because we have the mandate to rule from the people of Zimbabwe. They can go to hang.

People elected Mnangagwa as president. He is the father of the nation, and he wants his children to live in peace.

The president did not offer the MDC Alliance a coalition government,” he added.

Mushekwi Snubs Warriors Duty?

Big bustling former Caps United striker Nyasha Mushekwi’s withdrawal from the Warriors squad for the upcoming 2019 AFCON qualifiers has raised eyebrows.

The robust 30-year-old pulled out of the team due to what ZIFA described as a nagging injury issue.

However, Mushekwi still features for his Chinese team, Dalian Yifang, according to Soccer 24.

According to sources in the Warriors camp Mushekwi rejected the call-up following a fall-out with ZIFA in 2017.

Mushekwi, Willard Katsande and Matthew Rusike were banned by ZIFA after they allegedly influenced others to boycott a farewell dinner organised by the government before they left for the 2017 AFCON finals held in Gabon.

The boycott was done in protest at outstanding allowances from the qualifying games.

Musona On Target For Mighty Anderlecht

Knowledge’ the Smiling Assassin’ Musona scored his first goal for mighty Anderlecht in a 2-1 loss against Club Brugge on Sunday.

The 28-year-old forward joined the Belgian giants at the end of the previous season from KV Oostende.

He started in first XI and netted his debut goal in the 19th minute, cancelling out Emmanuel Bonaventure’s 3rd-minute strike. Brugge restored their lead on the 43rd minute through Hans Vanaken.

The forward was however substituted in the 65th minute.

Musona also has also created two goals for his new team this season.

MDC Activist Abducted For Allegedly Possessing A Gun

A Chiredzi based MDC Alliance activist has been abducted by state security agents for allegedly possessing a gun, ZimEye.com has been informed.

MDC Alliance sources in Chiredzi alleged that the activist, Mupwanyiwa, a cane haulage driver was abducted by state security agents who accused him of illegally possessing a gun.

” One of our members by the name Mupwanyiwa, a cane haulage was abducted for allegedly possessing a gun.

Mupwanyiwa was abducted after a Zanu PF activist had accused him of possessing a gun, following a political altercation between the two.

Our efforts to locate Mupwanyiwa have been futile,” said Mugova Tongai, an MDC Alliance official.

Revival Of Economy Is Not An Overnight Process: ED

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has appealed to the nation to be patient as his government embarks on an economic recovery programme.

In his inauguration speech yesterday,
Mnangagwa said rebuilding the economy would not be an overnight process.

He also said, all citizens would be equal before the law. Mnangagwa also promised to implement Constitutional provisions
regarding the devolution of Government powers and responsibilities.

“It will not be easy, but as the Holy Bible teaches us: ‘For you need to have endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised.’ We have indeed endured; we have toiled and  as we walk in unity we will have a better and more prosperous future.

As I have repeatedly said in the past months, real change does not happen overnight.
However, inspired by our national
anthem, we must work together,

Young Ladies Burn Love Rival To Death While Recording Act On Mobile Phone

By Paul Nyathi|The South African High Court has sentenced Gugulethu Thwala and Koketso Moyo were today sentenced for burning to dearth 19 year old Boitumelo Dlamini in 2015.

The two ladies in the company of two others who are yet to meet their fate burnt Dlamini to death while recording a video of her screaming while they laughed for dating one of their ex boyfriends Tokelo Makhelepho.

They were sentenced to 18 and 14 years respectively for murder and both got a added 5 years for kidnapping.

Mosopi, Koketso Moyo, Gugulethu “Sharon” Thwala, and Victor Pilane have been charged with kidnapping and murdering Boitumelo Dlamini.

The four allegedly kidnapped Dlamini at Eletsa High School in Letlhabile near Brits on June 18, after Mosopi accused her of dating her boyfriend.

Dlamini was allegedly doused with petrol and set alight. Thwala, 26, told the court that Mosopi poured petrol from a five-litre container over Dlamini in the bushes near Klipgat.

“She [Cynthia] pulled Boitumelo out of the car and slapped her, she asked her whether she was in love with Tokelo [Cynthia’s former boyfriend]. She apologised, but Cynthia asked her for what reason she was apologising,” Thwalwa told the court.

She went on to say that when she saw Cynthia pour petrol over Dlamini, she pulled Dlamini and she too was sprinkled with petrol.

“At that moment I saw Victor Pilane [Cynthia’s then boyfriend] recording the incident [on a cellphone video]. I screamed to him to help free Boitumelo from Cynthia…I then heard flames and when I turned, I saw Boitumelo burning.”

She said Mosopi’s feet was burning and she ran to her boyfriend (Pilane) for help, while Dlamini ran in the opposite direction.
