Grace Mugabe Hits The Campaign Trail

FIRST Lady Grace Mugabe is on Friday set to resume her countrywide rallies, making her first stop over in Buhera North, as she rolls out the roadmap for her husband President Robert Mugabe and the ruling party’s election campaign ahead of next year’s general elections.

Zanu PF Manicaland provincial chairperson, Samuel Undenge yesterday told provincial co-ordinating committee members in Mutare that Grace would be in Buhera, MDC-T leader, Morgan Tsvangirai’s home area, on Friday.

“We are here to discuss a number of issues and one of them is that our First Lady Grace Mugabe will be in Buhera on the 17th of this month,” he said.

“I think our Provincial Affairs minister (Mandiitawepi Chimene) can give us a briefing on our First Lady’s visit to the province since the letter came through her office.”

Chimene confirmed the visit, but could not give details, claiming that she was still on leave.

Provincial women’s league secretary for administration, Letina Undenge, said she was expecting a bumper crowd at the rally.

“We love our mother, we are supporting her and we did this at our recently-held conference,” she said.

“This is more like the rally we held at Mutambara in Chimanimani. She is energetic and very keen to empower women.

“She empowered women, including youths, the last time she came to Chimanimani. This is going to be a roadmap going to the elections, come 2018.

“We are preparing to come in numbers. We are delighted because we are also going to celebrate the birthday of our President.”

The sharp-tongued Zanu PF women’s league boss normally uses such platforms to rail against her rivals in the ruling party, and in this particular instance her target could be Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who is reportedly eyeing succeeding Mugabe.

Grace, who is believed to be the leader of the G40 faction comprising of the ruling party’s Young Turks, is reportedly also eyeing Mugabe’s seat.

On the other hand, Mnangagwa and his Team Lacoste faction, are believed to have the backing of war veterans and the security sector.

Grace marked her grand entry into mainstream Zanu PF politics in 2014 with a string of campaign rallies that spilled into 2015, culminating in the axing of Vice-President Joice Mujuru and several other former ruling party bigwigs on allegations of plotting Mugabe’s downfall.

Mujuru and her team, which at the time included former Presidential Affairs minister Didymus Mutasa and ex-Zanu PF spokesperson, Rugare Gumbo, later regrouped and formed the opposition Zimbabwe People First before their spectacular break up last week. – State Media

Tsvangirai In Unity Talks

Terrence Mawawa, Masvingo| MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai has said his party is making wide consultations regarding the formation of the grand coalition indicating nothing solid has been put in place yet.

Addressing party members at a meeting held at the provincial party offices in Masvingo , Tsvangirai said his party would maintain a cautious approach towards the formation of the grand coalition. Civic organisations and pro-democracy forces are pushing for the formation of a grand formation expected to challenge President Robert Mugabe ‘s tight grip on power.

Tsvangirai and former Vice President Joice Mujuru are expected to spearhead the formation of the much anticipated coalition. Tsvangirai said it was too early to pre-empty facts on the grand coalition since his party was making the necessary consultations.

“We are eager to work with all democratic forces but at the moment we are in the process of consulting our members and supporters across the country. As such we cannot say much about the coalition,”said Tsvangirai. The former premier added:”There are people who are concerned about the conditions guiding the formation of the coalition. Let me assure you that the MDC will not be neutralised by the formation of the coalition. Nothing like that will happen. We are guided by laid down party principles.”

Former MDC provincial secretary, Tongai Matutu who had deserted the party to join Tendai Biti’s PDP attended the meeting after dumping Biti’s party. “Let us embrace those who are coming back home. It happens in politics and let us work with those who are returning to us.We have to bury our differences and move forward,”said Tsvangirai.

Mahofa Takes Over Recruitment Of Nurses At Masvingo Hospital

Terrence Mawawa Masvingo Vocal Masvingo State Minister Shuvai Ben Mahofa’s office has submitted more than 60 names of party sympathisers for nurse training at Masvingo Provincial Hospital it has emerged.

Sources at the hospital’s School of Nursing told ZimEye.com the recruitment process was in disarray following the submission of more than 60 names of Zanu PF youths by Mahofa’s office. The sources claimed Mahofa stamped the name list and instructed officials at the government run hospital to consider the party youths for nursing training despite the fact that they did not have the suitable qualifications.

“Minister Mahofa instructed us to consider at least 60 Zanu PF youths for nursing training. The process has become complicated because the majority of the youths do not have the suitable qualifications. This is a difficult situation.

We have been told more names are coming. This makes our job very difficult,”said a senior employee at the hospital. Mahofa was not immediately available to comment on the matter. Officials at Mahofa’s Benjamin Burombo Building offices denied they wrote a letter to Masvingo Provincial Hospital concerning the recruitment of nurses. “It is unheard of – we did not write such a letter to Masvingo Provincial Hospital.Who said that?We are actually hearing it from you,”said a government official who declined to disclose her name.

Mnangagwa Faces Church Resistance

Church leaders have put up a fight against Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa urging Zimbabweans to resist the proposed first amendment to the Constitution, which is aimed at changing the process of choosing the country’s Chief Justice (CJ), warning this creates room for more alterations to the country’s supreme law.

The church leaders spoke alongside other civil society leaders at a public meeting organised by the Christian Alliance of Zimbabwe (CAZ), Public Policy Institute of Zimbabwe and the Southern African Parliamentary Support Trust to discuss the proposed amendment to the Constitution.

In an open devotion to the workshop, a Roman Catholic priest and convenor of the Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) in the Matabeleland region, Peter Nkomozana, reminded citizens that they “are the salt of the earth”, pointing to their important role in defending democracy.

“There are times when we have failed to be brave enough to point out where there have been shortcomings,” he said. “As community leaders, there are times when we have become tasteless and are no longer effective. Let us stay as the salt of the earth.”

CAZ leader, Useni Sibanda said the Constitution needed to be defended.

Human rights lawyer, Matshobana Ncube encouraged citizens to lobby MPs to block the amendment when it goes before Parliament.

“There are three arms of government: the legislature, the judiciary and the Executive, and the Constitution says these three arms of government are independent of each other,” he said.

“What is the interest of the Executive in appointing the head of the judiciary arm? The judiciary is supposed to be independent, which means that the Executive is not supposed to be involved in the appointment of its head, the CJ,” he said.

“The ruling party does have a two-thirds majority in Parliament and can amend the Constitution. But I believe that there are people here, who associate with the ruling party somehow, but don’t agree to the amendment. This is a factional issue. If we can, let us lobby some Zanu PF members and MPs. Let us lobby, especially those who are against the amendment.”

Mugabe Sends More Kids Out

A hundred beneficiaries of the Presidential Scholarship left the country yesterday to persue studies at three universities in neighbouring South Africa.

Information, Media and Broadcasting Services Minister Dr Christopher Mushohwe said it had been three years since the Government last sponsored disadvantaged children to further their studies at South African universities.

“This year we are only taking 100 new students to South Africa. For the past three or so years we have not been sending students to universities due to financial constraints.

“Fort Hare made a special request to President Mugabe during their centenary celebrations to send students as the numbers were dwindling. Everything is sorted out for the new recipients and they are leaving today,” said Dr Mushohwe.

He said of the 100 students, 50 were going to University of Fort Hare and the rest were going to University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) and University of Johannesburg (UJ).

“We wanted some of the 100 to take some courses which are not offered by Fort Hare. So 25 will be going to (UJ) and the other 25 to Wits where they will study all facets of engineering and accounting,” said Dr Mushohwe who is also the Executive Director of the Presidential Scholarship Department in the Office of the President and Cabinet.

He added that returning students had already left to continue their studies.

“I had to rush to Harare to sort out their visas last week. I also consulted with South Africa’s Minister of Home Affairs Malusi Gigaba who helped us a lot to obtain study visas.”

President Mugabe graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and English at Fort Hare University in 1951.

The Presidential Scholarship has seen thousands of disadvantaged children from across the country studying for various programmes at the university. – State Media

Shocker As Broke Mutasa Blocks Sheriff

Former Zanu-PF secretary for administration Didymus Mutasa reportedly locked up the gates and doors to his Umwinsdale property in a bid to block the Sheriff from attaching his assets over a $26 000 debt owed to lawyers who represented him in his battles with the revolutionary party. Execution was temporarily stopped to allow the Sheriff to engage the services of a locksmith.
An assistant Sheriff, Mr Kapfudzaruwa, on February 1 attempted to attach property at Mutasa’s Umwinsdale house, but faced stiff resistance from his workers.
The Sheriff will now go back to the house with a locksmith to gain access into the premises and execute a court order that compels the beleaguered olitician to pay $26 919,25 to Nyakutombwa Mugabe Legal Counsel.
Mutasa, together with Rugare Gumbo and Temba Mliswa, were in 2015 expelled from Zanu-PF for illegally trying to topple President Mugabe. Mutasa and Gumbo were, until their expulsion last week, part of a new political outfit – Zimbabwe People First – led by former
Vice President Joice Mujuru. Mliswa is now legislator for Norton on an independent ticket.
Mutasa and Gumbo then claimed to have counter-expelled ZimPF interim leader Mujuru, after their expulsion along with five others. Together with Mliswa, they engaged the services of Nyakutombwa Mugabe Legal Counsel to contest their expulsion from Zanu-PF in 2015.
They also sought to nullify an amendment made to the revolutionary party’s constitution at its 2014 National People’s Congress. After filing several applications, the trio later chickened out and dropped the challenge, but the lawyers billed them $26 000 for work already done for which they did not pay.
The lawyers approached the High Court earlier this year claiming the outstanding fees. Last week, Justice Felistus Chatukuta issued a default judgment against Mutasa and ordered him to pay the $26 000 plus interest.
Gumbo and Mliswa are contesting the claim and the matter is yet to be heard at the High Court. Justice Chatukuta last year ordered Mutasa (the first defendant in the suit) to pay the $26 919,25 after he failed to turn up for the case.
“Whereupon, after reading documents filed of record, it is ordered that the first defendant (Mutasa) be and is hereby ordered to pay the plaintiff the sum of $26 919,25 plus interest on the above amount at the prescribed rate calculated from the date of issue of summons to the date of full and final payment,” the judge ruled.
The judge also ordered Mutasa to pay costs of the suit.
Mutasa, Gumbo and Mliswa made headlines between 2015 and early 2016 for frequenting the High Court with suits against the revolutionary party. For the legal suits, the litigious trio enjoyed the services of Nyakutombwa Mugabe Legal Counsel whom they didn’t pay.
Nyakutombwa Mugabe Legal Counsel raised a bill for all the services rendered, but the three failed to pay. After unsuccessfully trying various avenues to recover the debt, the law firm issued summons at the High Court claiming the money from the politicians.
When the three were expelled from Zanu-PF, they approached the law firm seeking legal services. “As a result of their expulsion, they approached the plaintiff and retained the plaintiff for the provision of several legal services related to their expulsion from the aforesaid political party.
“The services included challenging the aforesaid expulsion and seeking the enforcement of certain constitutional rights,” reads part of the plaintiff’s declaration. In coming up with the bill, the law firm charged the trio for all opted services rendered and for all court attendances in terms of the Law Society of Zimbabwe General Tariff of 2011.
No guarantee of success was given nor was failure of the cases a basis for non-payment of due fees, the lawyers argued. The trio lost all their cases at the High Court and the Supreme Court and became evasive in terms of settling the legal bill.
Mutasa and Gumbo were represented in a High Court case in which they contested expulsion from Zanu-PF under HC1914 and left a balance of $2 950. The lawyers are also claiming $5 181 from Mutasa and Mliswa for legal services rendered while they were pursuing another case at the Constitutional Court registered under CCZ 10/15.
Mutasa is being separately sued for $1 380 for services in a case he required a spoliation order against the Office of the President and Cabinet. Mutasa and Mliswa were also charged $12 463 in another constitutional challenge filed under CCZ 9/15 at the Constitutional Court.
The law firm also claimed $4 945 from Mutasa for representing him in a case in which he was fighting the Constituency Elections Office. The lawyers wanted the trio to pay costs of the suit and to be obliged to pay interest on the total figures owed at the rate of 5 percent per annum calculated from the date of issuance of the summons to the date of payment in full.
In one of the cases in which Mutasa and Gumbo were contesting expulsion at the High Court, the duo chickened out on March 30 this year. The court ordered the duo to pay legal costs incurred by Zanu-PF and President Mugabe in defending the aborted court application. – State Media

Man Saved From Abusive Wife

A Plumtree man has been granted a protection order against his abusive wife who is in the habit of assaulting and insulting him.

Mr Owen Mlambo told the court that his wife Salome Mutemachini also abuses his late brother’s son (5) whom they live with.

Mr Mlambo said he was now living in fear because of his wife’s violent nature and was also afraid that she would hurt his nephew.

The couple appeared before Plumtree magistrate Mr Joshua Mawere who granted the protection order.

Mr Mawere warned Mutemachini against assaulting, insulting or threatening her husband and the five-year-old child.

Mr Mlambo told the court that recently his wife attacked and injured him on the eye.

“We have been staying together with my wife for the past two years and I have been suffering in silence because she has been beating me up, insulting me and threatening me. As I speak my left eye is painful because she hit me.

“I’m not her only victim because she starves my five-year-old nephew, she doesn’t allow him to sit in our living room, and she insults and assaults him. She doesn’t allow my nephew to play with his peers next door and she also threatens him. My nephew is living in fear because of my wife’s actions,” said Mr Mlambo.

He said his wife was also in the habit of badmouthing him to his workmates and does not want him to visit his relatives.

Mutemachini, however, denied the allegations and said the protection order was a strategy by her husband to evict her from their home.

She said her husband was the one who assaults and insults her and she only retaliates.

“My husband is making up all these lies so that he can frustrate me. He knows that if I’m frustrated I will move back to my parents’ home and that’s what he wants as he has always wanted to get rid of me.

“The truth is that we insult, assault and threaten each other only because he would have started the altercation,” said Mutemachini.

Mr Mawere advised Mutemachini to apply for a protection order if her husband abused her. – State Media

Zimbabwe And Mozambique Border Conflict Escalates | LATEST

Zimbabwe and Mozambique are both suffering rising casualties and cattle rustling during skirmishes along their border in an area plagued by conflict over scarce resources, officials and villagers say.

The neighbouring countries accuse each other of triggering clashes taking place along the central stretch of their 1 000km frontier, highlighting persisting tension over an unresolved dispute that has seen Renamo — which is also the official opposition in Mozambique — launching a low-level guerrilla campaign against the ruling Frelimo government, that has spilled into Zimbabwe.

The low intensity war in Mozambique, which has killed hundreds of people, is taking its toll on Zimbabwe’s eastern highlands and the south eastern plateau, despite President Robert Mugabe’s vow to stop the hostilities with Afonso Dhlakama’s Renamo armed bandits — who have resorted to cattle rustling from Manicaland villagers to feed its fighters and raise funds after the Mozambique army pushed it out of cities.

And as cattle die of starvation due to drought, opportunists are also mounting night-time raids to replace lost stock from the neighbouring country.

Angry locals have also begun raiding Mozambican cattle pens, inviting revenge incursions.

The fighting along the border has also left dozens of houses and various food stores burned and looted, plus dozens of herds of cattle stolen.

Mugabe has said he wants to stop cattle rustling along the border, at a time Mozambique refugees have been allowed to blend into border communities, instead of refugee camps.

Addressing his Zanu PF supporters in Dande, a northern border community at the end of last year, Mugabe said he had received reports of trans-border cattle theft.

“Let us forge good relations with those beyond the border in Tete. I hear that you take each other’s cattle.

“Leave people’s cattle alone. Are there no cattle here? I thought they were the ones who should have been after our cattle. What is happening? Let’s stop that practice,” Mugabe said.

David Mandimutsira, a cattle trader, said fighters had stolen a 50-strong herd from him and another herd from his brother.

He said the military had failed to stop the raids, with soldiers running into the bush the moment they came under fire.

South of Dande along the border in Chipinge, furious locals are crossing the border to steal cattle, confirmed an opposition Member of Parliament.

“There are some known individuals who are going into Mozambique to steal cattle,” Musikavanhu MDC MP Prosper Mutseyami said.

When about 50 cattle were stolen from Zimbabwean small farmers and driven across the border in Chipinge in December, Mugabe’s deputy Emmerson Mnangagwa reacted by sending in the army.

Acting president then, Mnangagwa told Parliament that some of the cattle had been recovered.

“Some people have been invited to identify their cattle,” he said.

Mnangagwa said provincial security leaders of both countries were constantly meeting to discuss the escalation of cross border incidents and rising tension.

According to a December 10 police intelligence brief from Chisumbanje Police Station, the cattle were stolen by “15 suspected Mozambican soldiers armed with AK 47 rifles”.

When police visited the Zamuchiya area where the cattle were seized, they saw “five suspected Mozambican soldiers and some civilians with machetes and knobkerries”.

And there have been rising killings.

Infact, it was the abduction of a man from his village, who was later killed in Mozambique, which prompted Mnangagwa to deploy the army along the border.

Shockingly, his identity was never established. But investigations by the Daily News on Sunday revealed he was many of Mozambican refugees moving in and settling along the border.

Recently, two suspect Mozambican soldiers and 25 men armed with bows and arrows crossed the border into Nyanga, rounding up four refugees and their cattle from Nyamutenha village, ward 11, where they had settled, locals said.

They were reportedly taken to Nyabutu camp. Their fate remains unknown. Some of the Mozambicans are committing atrocities, then fleeing their homes to settle here as refugees, while others are driven out of their homes.

But in both cases, they do not sit back but organise cross-border revenge attacks, investigations revealed.

“We are in no way screening these immigrants… (we are just) allowing them to settle among ordinary villagers, risking their safety,” a Mapungwana village head who spoke on condition of anonymity said.

“Our government is messing up its refugee processing protocol and it may cost the nation its peace.”

Chipinge South Zanu PF MP Enock Porusingazi agrees that the refugees need to be placed in appropriate facilities for their safety and the preservation of peace.

“Once a person flees from war or terror, he is classified a refugee and should be quarantined in a camp for safety and protection,” Porusingazi said.

But until Zimbabwe reins in cattle rustling and implements appropriate refugee handling procedures, it remains on the brink of being sucked into the conflict.

But to keep itself from its strategic neighbour’s internal conflict, Zimbabwe will need to carefully monitor activities along the long border and not just the political impasse between Frelimo and Renamo. – Daily News

Mugabe Plans To Die – CIO Boss

Veteran CIO Boss, the expelled former State Security minister Dydimus Mutasa says President Robert Mugabe plans to die in office.

Mutasa who is now in another fight with former Vice-President Joice Mujuru, over the Zimbabwe People First party future told journalists that his distinct impression when the two geriatrics used to work together was that Mugabe wanted “to die in office”.

The sensational claim, which is destined to set tongues wagging among long-suffering Zimbabweans, comes as Mugabe’s ruling party continues to be devoured by its ugly and seemingly unstoppable tribal, factional and succession wars — with the increasingly frail nonagenarian doggedly refusing to anoint a successor.

Speaking to the Daily News on Sunday in an exclusive interview yesterday, Mutasa — who is now an elder in the troubled Zimbabwe People First (ZPF) party — said Zanu PF bigwigs angling to succeed Mugabe were likely to be left bitterly disappointed as the nonagenarian clearly wished to die in office.

The former Zanu PF secretary for administration’s claims tally with previous statements made by powerful First Lady Grace Mugabe and the ruling party’s youth league, who have said the soon-to-be 93 long-ruling leader should rule Zimbabwe for life.

“Mugabe does not have a succession plan. President Mugabe wanted, and I believe this is what he is looking for, to leave government when he dies.

“That is when he will give up power and be taken from his deathbed to the Heroes Acre. That is his plan. And if you ask anybody who is close to him they will tell you that.

“I mean, his wife (Grace) has more or less mentioned it and (one of Zanu PF’s leading candidates to succeed Mugabe, Vice President Emmerson) Mnangagwa should know that too,” Mutasa said.

In May last year, Grace stunned thousands of Zanu PF supporters who had gathered in Harare for a solidarity rally with the nonagenarian, when she said Mugabe would rule Zimbabwe from the grave.

“We want you to lead this country from your grave, while you lie at the National Heroes’ Acre,” she told the shell-shocked supporters.

In 2015, and while speaking during a rally at Murehwa Business Centre, the influential first lady also warned Zanu PF heavyweights that she was going to design a special wheelchair from which Mugabe would rule until he was 100 years old.

“We are going to create a special wheelchair for President Mugabe until he rules to 100 years because that is what we want. That is the people’s choice. We want a leader that respects us,” she said.

The Zanu PF youth league also formally moved a motion at the ruling party’s annual conference which was held in Masvingo last December, for Mugabe, to be declared life president.

Indeed, and despite the palpable excitement by warring Zanu PF bigwigs ahead of the Masvingo meeting, the gathering turned out to be a damp squib, after Mugabe once again cunningly resisted factional expectations that he would finally show his hand on his bitterly-contested succession.

For weeks ahead of the meeting, the party’s two major factions — Team Lacoste which is rallying behind Mnangagwa, and the Generation 40 (G40) group which is rabidly opposed to the VP succeeding Mugabe — had huffed and puffed in a desperate endeavour to win the nonagenarian’s public backing.

But it all proved to be in vain, with Mugabe once again virtually affirming the stubbornly persistent national suspicion that his is a presidency for life — a reality that many leading lights in both Team Lacoste and the G40 have resignedly admitted to in previous private briefings with the Daily News on Sunday.

Instead, Mugabe slyly blew a gasket at the Masvingo gathering, savaging his brawling lieutenants, while cunningly moving to finger some of his top aides in alleged plots to hound him out of power — as the ruling party’s tribal, factional and succession wars continue to burn hot.

He made a thinly-disguised dig at Team Lacoste, saying the party’s leadership was not won through plotting the arrest of opponents, but through elections.

This was after the G40 had over the past few months alleged that the Mnangagwa camp was abusing key State institutions, including lapdog State media, to irregularly grab power in the former liberation movement.

“Hukuru muparty hunouya nekusarudzwa…hahuuye nokuti tosunga uyu tipindewo isusu (the leadership of the party comes through elections and not through plotting the arrest of fellow members,” Mugabe thundered.

In October this year, the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) torched a political storm in Zanu PF after it swooped on Higher Education minister Jonathan Moyo and his deputy Godfrey Gandawa during a hotly-contested graft probe.

Moyo, who party insiders say is a key member of the G40, not only accused Team Lacoste and key players at Zacc of waging a factionally-driven war against him and other alleged G40 kingpins, he also threatened to sue Mnangagwa and many other senior government officials.

But, in typical Mugabe style, the nonagenarian also moved to attack the G40 at the meeting for their alleged indiscipline, and for abusing social media to attack fellow party officials.
“To the party leadership, we do not run matters of the party through Twitter or Facebook,” he said, as he sought to balance his criticism and in the process consolidate his own position.

Political analysts who spoke to the Daily News on Sunday then said it would have been “atypical” if Mugabe had chosen one faction over the other.

“The current situation where there are factions fighting each other below him means that there isn’t a faction fighting him directly, so the fighting serves him well,” said former civic leader, McDonald Lewanika.

Academic Ibbo Mandaza said Mugabe had repeatedly displayed “tendencies that are consistent with someone who doesn’t want a successor”.

“He is officially the Zanu PF candidate for 2018 and that suits the G40 faction which he heads, but in the final analysis all that is happening is that he wants to die in office,” he said.

But Mugabe — the only leader Zimbabweans have known since the country gained its independence from Britain in April 1980 — is facing the biggest challenge to his 36-year rule.

The increasingly frail nonagenarian and Zanu PF are battling growing unrest among the country’s restive populace, which blames his government for presiding over the country’s dying economy and the deepening rot in the former regional breadbasket. – Daily News

Another Top Cop Arrested

Another cop stationed at Dzivaresekwa Police Station in Harare was arrested by members of the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission for allegedly stealing over $2 000 and possessing two fake ticket books.

Constable Malvin Jere (28) was by yesterday still detained at Dzivaresekwa Police Station assisting police with investigations.
Sources close to the investigation revealed that the anti-corruption officers on Wednesday arrived at a roadblock in Dzivaresekwa which Jere and other officers were manning and began to check on their Z69J ticket books.

During the process, they realised that Jere’s receipt book had different serial numbers from the ones other police officers were using. After further searches, it was discovered that he had two such receipt books.

Jere was immediately arrested. On further investigations, it was also discovered that the financial records in some of the books he used were not tallying, and had a deficit of $2 300.
During the investigations, it was discovered that two original ticket books were missing from the police station.

Mawarire Has No Case To Answer –High Court

By Staff Reporter | High court judge Justice Clement Phiri, said #ThisFlag social movement leader, Pastor Evan Mawarire, is likely to be acquitted when he stands for trial because the state’s case against him is “weak”.

The state is accusing Mawarire of inciting public violence, instigating civil unrest and urging the public to resist public policies “meant in the public interest” through posting videos on social media.

Opposing Mawarire’s a bail application, last week the state represented by Edmore Nyadzema, said the #ThisFlag leader was “a celebrated terrorist” who had roots in America.

“The accused person is facing some very serious charges which we are convinced that will lead to his conviction and because of the fact that his close family members are in America where he has strong contacts, it will be difficult for us to locate him once admitted to bail,” said Nyazemba.

But the presiding judge Justice Clement Phiri, said the state’s case against Mawarire was not convincing adding that the activist had a great chance of being acquitted.

“The state’s case appears to be weak and how does one’s relationship with his family members in America has to do with him escaping?

“And also given the fact that the accused personally handed himself to Zimbabwe via the Harare International Airport surely we cannot say he was obstructing the course of justice,” he said before ordering for the release of Marire’s release.

War Vets Throw Weight Behind Mujuru

Former vice-president Joice Mujuru’s bid to retain control of her Zimbabwe People First (ZimPF) party in the face of a spirited campaign to dislodge her by former Zanu-PF heavyweights received a major boost yesterday when war veterans threw their weight behind her leadership.

Mujuru already enjoyed the backing of nine of the party’s 10 provincial structures who said they supported her decision to fire former State Security minister Didymus Mutasa, ex-Zanu-PF spokesperson Rugare Gumbo, Claudius Makova and Margaret Dongo, a veteran opposition politician and one-time Zanu-PF legislator.

The ZimPF leader accuses her former allies of trying to scuttle ongoing talks with MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai to form a coalition to challenge President Robert Mugabe and his Zanu-PF party in next year’s elections.

War veterans are seen as a vital cog in Mujuru’s party as they are responsible for mobilisation and giving the party liberation war credentials that make it attractive to other opposition parties seeking a coalition.

“Indeed, we are fully behind our torch-bearer and brand, the interim president Dr JTR Mujuru and the national leadership for uprooting undesirable and retrogressive elements planted in our midst to cause disharmony in our party for the benefit of our enemy Zanu-PF,” a statement by ZimPF’s Interim Freedom Fighters national executive council reads in part.

“These agents of the Zanu-PF regime promoted factionalism and established parallel structures intended to cause divisions and destabilise the party in an effort to derail our noble vision to become the next government.”

The Elliot Kasu-led outfit pledged its support of the purge, which it said would rid the party of saboteurs.

“As such, we the freedom fighters do hereby unreservedly declare our total commitment and uncompromised stance in support of our president’s well thought out and calculated pre-emptive strike and associated interventions to clear the elements determined to stall progress, steal the people’s leadership and the party,” the statement added.

The war veterans also encouraged Mujuru to continue with her efforts to mobilise a coalition of opposition parties to challenge Mugabe. Mujuru also received the backing of women’s league with interim chairperson Marian Chombo saying they would now work hard to strengthen the party.

“We have programmes that we are rolling out to ensure the women’s wing reclaims ownership of its programmes,” she said.

“We are creating platforms for different women to organise themselves in their wards, identify particular programmes that they want to champion.”

“We will work hard to get sponsorship and resources for our own political programnes as women.

We will reach out to other women in business, civil society, politics, religion, sport and all sectors in order to tap from their skills and experiences.”

Meanwhile, Southern African Political and Economic Series (Sapes) Trust director Ibbo Mandaza said Mujuru appeared to be enjoying an upper hand in the tug of war.

“The group that has the majority of the support will emerge stronger,” he said.

“It will appear that Mujuru has more support from the 10 provincial chairpersons and if that is the case then clearly she is head stark and might be able to consolidate that position.

University of Zimbabwe political science lecturer Eldred Masunungure said all was not lost for ZimPF even though it would emerge weaker from the infighting.

“It is premature to answer the question in a clear-cut way but both might still have political life. The party is clearly disintegrating. It is decomposing though it can be resuscitated,” he said.

He said ZimPFwas sharply divided along two ideologies with the faction led by the so-called elders being nostalgic about the old “good” Zanu-PF ways while those sympathetic to Mujuru appeared to be inclined towards the opposition MDC-T.

Political analyst, Lloyd Sachikonye agreed that the split was not healthy for the party.
“In most cases when we have a split in a party it tends to weaken it. It is very rare that a split will strengthen the party,” he said.

“In this particular case what is likely going to happen is that the party will be weakened.”

Pedzisayi Ruhanya said none of the factions would emerge stronger from the crisis because ZimPF was yet to have elected office bearers.

“The two groups have not yet consummated themselves into a political party by congress where they are given the power by the people,” he said.

“Democracy is government for the people by the people and so the element of the people lack in both groups.

“None of both groups were elected by their membership people, they elected each other and this should be denounced in a democratic environment,” he said.

“Leadership derives its power from the general membership or from the will of the people who make up that political party so that group before it split was yet to go through a democratic internal electoral process so it is difficult to know which group is stronger or weaker in the absence of a properly constituted congress.”

Ruhanya added: “The honest truth is that none of the two groups is stronger because how do we measure the strength of the group outside congress where we see members coming together to elect leadership. Both groups lack legitimacy.”

Mujuru revealed in an exclusive interview with The Standard last month that she was close to clinching a coalition deal with Tsvangirai. – Standard

Mawarire Bomb For Zimbabwe’s Good

After spending a week in remand prison following his arrest as he returned home from a brief stint in exile, many had expected outspoken pastor Evan Mawarire to scale down his activism and take stock after his brave decision to return home. They were mistaken. The Harare-based pastor was back and took no time before unleashing a video on his favourite platforms Facebook and Twitter on Friday, a day after his release from Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison. He thanked Zimbabweans for standing by him and sent a defiant message to President Robert Mugabe’s regime.

“I’m so glad to be back home in Zimbabwe where I belong,” Mawarire said in a Facebook post accompanying the video that had already been viewed by thousands of people yesterday.

“Thank you for your support and for speaking out for Zimbabwe. None of us should ever be intimidated into silence.

“This is our home and we have the full right to participate in making it a better country, like we said in the beginning.”

Mawarire was released by the High Court on $300 bail.

He is facing charges of subverting a constitutionally elected government and insulting the national flag. The subversion charge carries a 20-year jail term, if he is convicted.

His legal team that comprises Harrison Nkomo and Jeremiah Bamu convinced Justice Clement Phiri that Mawarire was a suitable candidate for bail and that their client was a victim of political persecution.

Mawarire walked out of Chikurubi gates on Thursday afternoon and despite claiming to be in high spirits, refused to give media interviews.

However, the bigger battle awaits him to regain the people’s confidence after the unsavoury episodes that began with his first arrest on treason charges in July last year.

Mawarire’s appearance at the Harare magistrates court on February 3 was an anti-climax compared to his initial appearance at the same courts over six months ago.

There were no 200 lawyers or thousands of supporters standing in solidarity with him though the media did not disappoint, as journalists dutifully covered the story of a man of the cloth who has become a thorn in the flesh for Mugabe’s government.

So much has changed on the ground since that cold July night when citizens held a vigil at the courts until Mawarire walked out of the courts a free man on a legal technicality.

Instead of emboldening the cleric, the experience left him traumatised and he fled to South Africa enroute to the United States where he was feted by the media.

Mawarire’s decision to go into exile in the US divided opinion among his followers and neutrals.
The anger by some supporters who felt let down is seen mainly on social media, with many accusing Mawarire of being a government mole.

One Gibson Marwa wrote on Facebook, “A captain is the last to be evacuated. The pastor should not have left Zimbabwe in the first place. He sold out.”

Another Facebook user on the same thread, Hulu Maq Bhila concurred saying, “I seriously think he came back as an opportunist. Can you imagine how powerful he was when he left? Zanu PF was on the verge of collapse, now things have changed, Zanu PF is stronger, it won a by-election. Then he comes back at such a time, pathetic.”

However, others like Cape Peninsula University lecturer Blessing Miles Kwibi-Gavhure believe Mawarire is still relevant and would continue to give Zanu PF sleepless nights.

“Instead of having solidarity with Evan Mawarire, the so-called opposition forces are busy celebrating his incarceration. Some are even peddling lies that he is a Zanu PF project,” Kwibi-Gavhure wrote.

“You cannot monopolise the fight for liberation. It is and should be a collective effort.”

Mawarire seems to have alienated himself from a section of local political activists when he revealed that he harboured political ambitions and is considering running for public office in an interview with South Africa’s Daily Maverick.

Many analysts believe the July 2016 momentum was a lost opportunity, and Zanu PF had since reorganised.

For instance, the government banned the use of the national flag by protesters and successfully introduced the much- maligned bond notes — was one of the issues that galvanised Zimbabweans against the government.

#ThisFlag failed to transform itself into a structured organisation and with Mawarire in exile, the movement became rudderless and floundered.

It remains to be seen whether #ThisFlag would be able to reinvent itself, recapture the country’s imagination and reassert itself as the premier social movement, or if that was a mere flash flood in a desert. The Standard

DOKORA’S MUSLIM JIHAD SYLLABUS: Minister Slapped

By Staff Reporter | Zvishavane’s Dadaya High School parents have dragged Primary and Secondary Education minister, Lazarus Dokora to court over the new education curriculum he has introduced.

The parents, through their School Development Committee (SDC) are accusing Dokora of imposing the new curriculum on their children without consultations.

The School’s SDC through its lawyers, Mutendi, Mudisi and Shumba Legal Practitioners, on Friday filed an urgent chamber application at the Bulawayo High Court citing Dokora and the school headmaster as respondents.

The parents are arguing that the new curriculum should be suspended until proper consultations have been done.

In his founding affidavit, the school’s SDC chairperson, Leopold Mudisi, argued that the implementation of the new curriculum compromised the education delivery system.
“The respondents made a complete paradigm shift from the conventional subjects offered at the school.

Subjects such as physical education, sport and mass displays have been made compulsory.
The subject combinations in terms of a circular made available to parents makes it impossible for pupils to fit into the existing system which the respondents are trying to phase out,” he said.

He further stated that the new curriculum was “an ambitious” project which would unnecessarily burden teachers and compromise the future of learners.

“The overhaul of the curriculum is impractical. The learning time for conventional subjects was always not enough and thus to introduce new subjects is ambitious and sounds myopic. There are no qualified teachers at the school to teach the new subjects and inevitably it will affect the pupils’ performance,” he said.

The parents said there was no way curriculum changes can be implemented without consultations.

They said since they were responsible for payment of school fees and the future of their children, they were supposed to be consulted.

“The parents are the guardians of these pupils since they are minors and as such their views and recommendations are of paramount importance. The Government does not offer grants for students and it is the parents who have the burden of financing the education of their children,” said Mudisi.

On Thursday the Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe held a stakeholders meeting where it also resolved to sue Dokora.

Man Uses Loud Music To Chase Out Wife

A COWDRAY Park man who wants to get rid of his wife arrives home at midnight daily and plays loud music in an attempt to make life difficult for her.

Elphina Ndlovu, a teacher, made these revelations when she applied for a protection order against her husband Milton Ndlovu.

“I am a teacher and I need all the rest I can get but my husband comes home every night and plays loud music. My children and I fail to sleep and relax because he makes so much noise. I can’t take it anymore,” she said.

The stressed woman said her husband started abusing her emotionally and verbally after the death of their son who had cardiac arrest.

“My son died because of a heart problem and now my husband says I killed him. I am tired of insults and the abuse,” she said.

In his defence, Milton said he was tired of his wife and wanted to marry another wife because Elphina was bossy and disrespectful.

“Your worship, she is bossy and I’m tired of it. I bought a new car and she is always driving it. I have no chance to drive it. She doesn’t want my relatives visiting and whenever we have an argument she slaps me. I’m tired of it,” he said.

Elphina requested that the order should stop her husband from bothering or talking to her in anyway as she wants to live a peaceful life.

The presiding magistrate Sheunesu Matova did not grant the order but advised Milton to stop playing loud music at night and referred them for counselling. – State Media

Tsvangirai Only Opposition In Zimbabwe – Prof. Moyo

Ray Nkosi | In a rare show of praise for the Morgan Tsvangirai led Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), Professor Jonathan Moyo says it is the only viable opposition in the country.

Moyo a senior minister in President Robert Mugabe’s government took to twitter to write, “A grand coalition in Zim is by definition untenable because there are many opposition individuals but only one real opposition party, MDC-T!”

Some of the opposition parties over the weekend sealed another coalition deal, uniting under  Coalition Of Democrats (CODE), at a function held in the capital, Harare.

Tsvangirai has been on a nationwide tour in which he consulted party structures on whether the MDC should enter into a coalition with other opposition parties, coming out with a resounding yes. The veteran opposition leader has also insisted that he be coalition leader since he leads the biggest party.

Woman Gives Baby To Church As A Thanksgiving Offering

A Harare woman gave her second child to the church as thanksgiving offering after finally bearing children after four miscarriages that almost destroyed her marriage.

Convictions Mapfumo from Sally Mugabe Heights has given her child, who is now in Grade Three, to Holy Baptist Apostolic Church founder Bishop Susan Ziki Dube, who has assumed the role of the mother while the daughter assists in the church.

The story bears striking resemblance to the Biblical one of Hannah and her son Samuel.

Mapfumo said after going through the painful experience of miscarrying four pregnancies, the leader of Holy Baptist Apostolic Church prayed for her, and she has now conceived three girls born in 2005, 2009 and 2011.

Bishop Ziki Dube is well-known in the area as offering powerful prayers for people with varying needs and ailments.

“After my struggle to conceive, I decided to give this child to God as a tithe to thank Him for answering my prayers. I was prayed for by the leader of the church. I have also given myself to working in this church because there is nothing more I can give to God for what He has done for me.

“I was prompted to give this child because even in conceiving I did not know I was pregnant. In addition during the period of the pregnancy people would come to Mrs Ziki and give her preparation for the child. By the time the child was born she had more than she needed in terms of preparatory items. So I felt convicted in my heart to give her away to the work of God,” said Mapfumo, who is the secretary at the church.

The child has now assumed Bishop Ziki Dube’s surname and addresses her as mother, while Mapfumo has assumed the role of aunt.

“She no longer calls me mother, but auntie. The church leader, who also happens to be my niece, is now her mother. This was agreed upon with the consent of my husband.

“All the responsibilities that concern her have been assumed by Bishop Ziki Dube. Even when she gets married, Bishop Ziki Dube is entitled to get part of the lobola entitled for the mother of the child, and I have no problems with it,” Mapfumo said.

Mapfumo said she registered her church leader as the mother of the child on the birth certificate.

“We did not encounter problems and my husband had also waited to be guarantor so that the process would go on well. And it did. So she is now the legal mother,” said Mapfumo.

“I have given myself to the church. Even when the child used to call me mother I would not answer until the point where she is now used (to calling someone also mother). I see it as a tithe when I count the children I have miscarried and those I now have; hence it’s a befitting gift to God,” she said, adding that she desires to have a son.

“I have been prayed for and I am now pregnant. I have been asking God for a baby boy and I believe I will have him,” she said.

Mapfumo follows the example of the Biblical Hannah who gave up her son, Samuel, to the care of High Priest Eli in the Tabernacle.

In 1 Samuel 1, Hannah promised to give her child to the work of God if God fulfilled her desire to conceive. She later conceived more children. – Agencies

Who Is The Servant Of God In Isaiah 53?

By Benjamin Leon | Missionaries misleadingly assert that the entire chapter 53 of the book of Isaiah refers to Jesus as the “Suffering Servant” of God who dies for the sins of the world. Someone could easily be fooled to believe this argument if Isaiah is read out of context and without a proper translation.

However, it is obvious to anyone reading this text correctly, that Isaiah is telling us how the nations of the world will react when they witness the future messianic redemption of the Jewish people. . (Throughout the book of Isaiah, the Jewish people are referred to as the “Servant of God” and in the singular. (eg: Isaiah 41:8, Isaiah 49:3)

First, they will be astonished, literally covering their mouths at what they see, because they never believed that they would witness the glorious redemption of a persecuted, rejected and despised Israel.

(God kept His promise to the Jews and restored the land of Israel which He swore unto the forefathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob without the assistance of an intermediary.)

Secondly, they will try to understand why this newly-exalted Israel suffered so much. Originally they believed it was because God had rejected the Jews. Now that they see that this is not true, they will say that the suffering was the result of the transgressions of the nations who persecuted the Jewish people. When translated correctly, this can be seen clearly in the following two verses: “He [Israel] was wounded because of (m’–n) our [the nations] transgression.” Isaiah 53:5 In this verse the Hebrew letter “n” means “because of” or “from.” It is never translated as “for”, which would incorrectly indicate a vicarious atonement. “For the transgression of my people they (lamo–unk) were stricken.” Isaiah 53:8 The word lamo (unk) is plural (see Psalm 99:7) and clearly indicates that this verse does not refer to a single individual.

If Jesus wasn’t the Messiah, who was he?

Many historians and theologians agree that the gospels give a very one-sided picture of Jesus. These scholars disagree with the view that Jesus was God and that he did away with the commandments.

When the historical, sociological, political and theological circumstances are taken into consideration, they conclude that Jesus was merely a human being whose zealous messianic aspirations failed.

The belief that Jesus was God and did away with the commandments was due to the influence of the apostle Paul, and later, the political authority of Constantine and the Roman Empire. They created a religion that Jesus himself would not recognise. It was specifically the dictatorial influence of the Roman Empire that led to the religion’s widespread acceptance and popularity. A careful study of the gospels, which takes into account the prevailing circumstances and the perspectives of the numerous groups that co-existed at the time, also validates this opinion.

Additional substantiation can be brought from the Ebionite Christian sect, who existed as late as the fourth century and who denied the divinity of Jesus and believed they were obligated to keep the Torah. There is evidence that the Ebionites were direct descendants of the original followers of Jesus and were maintaining their original beliefs in a human Messiah. The Ebionites were excommunicated from the Roman church for refusing to accept the non-biblical doctrines put forth in the Nicene Creed.

The adoption of Christianity as the official religion of the Roman Empire accounts for its growth and popularity. The inclusion of many beliefs taken from Greco-Roman paganism, such as the trinity, resurrection and virgin birth, simply facilitated the process.

How could the Messiah come today if there are no longer kings from the tribe of Judah?

Missionaries often quote Genesis 49:10, “The scepter will not depart from Judah nor a lawgiver from between his feet until Shiloh [Messiah] comes.” They want to prove that the Messiah must have already come, since the kingship of Israel has already departed from the tribe of Judah. This argument is incorrect for two reasons:

l The passage actually means that the right of kingship will always remain within the tribe of Judah, up to and including when the Messiah comes.

l If the missionaries’ logic was correct, we would be forced to say that the Messiah must have come even before Jesus, since the kingship of Judah temporarily departed more than 100 years earlier during the time of the Maccabees and the Chanukah miracle.

Missionaries also argue that since all family records were stored exclusively in the Jewish Temple, no one can prove his Jewish genealogy because the temple and the records were destroyed by the Romans. This argument is totally false. The second chapter of the book of Ezra clearly indicates that private family genealogical records were not kept in the temple. In fact, there are numerous Jews today who can trace their lineage to the tribe of Judah and King David.

New Name For Mujuru Party | BREAKING NEWS

Shyleen Mtandwa | ZimEye.com can confirm that the Joice Mujuru led faction of the beleaguered Zimbabwe People First party, will be opting out of using the current name following a feud with the Rugare Gumbo and Didymus Mutasa led faction.

This is a move that can be construed as Mujuru conceding defeat and tantamount to her forming a new party altogether.

Reliable sources within the party indicated to ZimEye.com that the party will not be subjected to what they called unnecessary legal actions trying to fight over the party name with the Gumbo – Mutasa faction who have already fired warning shots of wanting to retain the name.

According to the sources the party has set up a separate committee to look into the issue of a new name for the party. The sources claim that the party is currently in the process of withdrawing membership cards issued to members under the Zimbabwe People First brand.

Social media postings by party members suggest that the party members are for the change of name with several names already being suggested on social media.

Gumbo and Mutasa wrote to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission ZEC advising the commission that Mujuru will no longer be allowed to use the Zimbabwe People First name for her faction. The two claim that the name belongs to them as founding fathers of the party.

A comment could not immediately be sourced from the Mujuru faction spokesperson Jealous Mawarire.

Ruvheneko Shines!

The “Iron Lady of Radio”, as Ruvheneko Parirenyatwa had grown to be known during her days on the airwaves at AB Communications’ ZiFM Stereo, is down but not out.
Parirenyatwa was last year pulled off air after a debacle with the station’s management months after a politically charged show which she hosted. She was later appointed head of the organisation’s subsidiary television production wing, but she quickly tendered a resignation letter.A couple of weeks ago, the Bachelor of Arts Degree in Media, Writing and Political Science holder resurfaced with her own show which airs online. But will she manage to maintain the same influence she had while under the wings of AB Communications?

“It is far too soon to say how this transition will affect followers and support of Ruvheneko,” she said.

“This is where you learn how much support you have as an individual versus how much support you had because you were part of a particular media house.”

The show, which airs live on Facebook and bears her name Ruvheneko (Shona word which means the light) aims at tackling current affairs through interviews with influential people not only in Zimbabwe but around the continent.

Famed for her strong character when interviewing prominent figures, especially politicians, the vivacious host says she is on course to carving her forte on a different front.

“I’ve only hosted two shows online so far and the first one had over 300 000 views,” she said.

“It has opened me up to a different market altogether. I have new followers who had never heard me on radio and this is good, but it’s even better if I know that the people who followed my radio show will follow me on my online show.”

Ruvheneko conceded that her influence could have dipped a bit as a result of the shift, but revealed that she was “excited” and her mission was to create value on cyberspace to attract more followers.

“What we need to keep fighting for are affordable rates for all because it does not take long for people to catch on to a new wave and they will ride that wave if they like it and if they see value,” she said.

Faced with internet connection hiccups, high costs for broadcasting equipment and still trying to come up with a flawless team, she believes her quest to defy all odds is history in the making.

“It feels like God’s grace has seen me through what still is in a lot of ways one of the most frightening career moments of my life so far,” she said.

“I’m in a position where I cannot see the whole staircase, so I am walking in His Light and trusting that I am exactly where I should be. The online TV show is only the beginning. This, I know.”

With the lack of plurality in local airwaves, it might be a while before she returns to mainstream radio but she is “very open to that” idea if anything comes up.

Similar to what brought her into the spotlight, her future prospects are clearly an attempt to trigger debate on pertinent issues and bringing leaders to account.

“In a public light, we know that journalists are supposed to shed light, reveal the truth, show the gaps, dig deep, expose, elevate and highlight life as we go through it, so what better name for a current affairs show than Ruvheneko?” she said.

Donor Funds Split Mujuru’s Party?

Staff Reporter | Joice Mujuru’s party split over donor funds the state media alleges.

Over the past week Mujuru’s Zimbabwe People First party has been engulfed in an internal turmoil out of which it might not recover, even before its official launch.

The state media claims that  Mujuru fell out with her lieutenants over her failure to account for membership subscriptions and funds donated to the party by foreign elements, our Harare Bureau has gathered.

ZimPF has been unwinding like thread on a spindle since last Wednesday when Dr Mujuru purportedly expelled seven of the party’s founders, accusing them of being Zanu-PF functionaries. The seven — among them Messrs Didymus Mutasa, Rugare Gumbo and Munacho Mutezo — in turn rejected Dr Mujuru’s leadership and said she was an interim head with no power to fire anyone. A day later, three high-ranking officials, Messrs Ray Kaukonde, Sylvester Nguni and Agrippa Mutambara, resigned.

ZimPF insiders told our Harare Bureau that tensions had been simmering for months. They said top officials were initially upbeat about ZimPF’s future under Dr Mujuru, but began to increasingly question her leadership capacity after internal and external interactions exposed her “serious limitations”.

Among their reservations were a proposed coalition with the MDC-T and participating in last month’s Bikita West National Assembly by-election, which the party lost heavily to Zanu-PF. Matters came to a head when Dr Mujuru allegedly failed to account for donations she received in South Africa, Sweden and the United Kingdom on behalf of ZimPF in 2016.

Her “evasiveness” regarding membership subscriptions totalling US$20 000 did not help the situation either, and the stage was set for last week’s showdown. ZimPF spokesperson Mr Jelousy Mawarire failed to comment on this, instead launching a tirade in which he accused Zanu-PF; Secretary for Information, Media and Broadcasting Services Mr George Charamba; and The Sunday Mail and its sister paper The Herald, of “trying to destabilise our party”.

He said, “The way you are covering this issue is confirming what we have aways suspected; that George Charamba and your newspapers want to destroy our party. You stupid journalists are being used by Charamba and Zanu-PF. We now know that those old people (Mutasa and Gumbo) are Zanu-PF projects.”

However, an insider told the state media that , “One always saw this coming. Emotions were running high weeks before we contested in the Bikita West by-election. Some did not want us to participate, arguing that the party was not in good stead to take on Zanu-PF. This is where Mujuru’s leadership should have shone, but she appeared bent on pleasing (MDC-T leader Mr Morgan) Tsvangirai blindly and at whatever cost. Tsvangirai wanted to use our performance in Bikita to gauge our strength as a party. Therefore, she wanted to prove a point, something others in ZimPF did not agree with.”

Another added, “This is politics, and such issues could have been sorted out within no time. But the real issue that has caused all this turmoil is control of the purse. She appeared comfortable with keeping everyone in the dark on financial matters.

Remember, she visited three countries last year, managing to secure some donations. However, no one knows what happened to that money or subscriptions we got from membership card sales. The party is broke; people have been using their own vehicles to run party affairs. There are no offices at provincial and district level. The fallout is really all about money and how it was being used. ZimPF coffers are dry and Mujuru is to blame.”

Our Harare Bureau caught up with Engineer Mutezo, Mr Mutambara and former ZimPF women’s affairs leader Ms Margaret Dongo as they explored strategies going forward; alongside Messrs Mutasa, Gumbo and Kudakwashe Bhasikiti and Colonel (Retired) Claudius Makova at ZimPF’s headquarters in Harare last Friday.

Eng Mutezo, who was in charge of finance in the united ZimPF, accused Dr Mujuru of running the party like a “backyard tuckshop” and diverting funds to personal use.

“I was in charge of the party’s funds. Our problems with her leadership qualities started when she left the country with a begging bowl heading to the United Kingdom, Middle East and South Africa without the knowledge of the executive. What I know is we have sold over 20 000 membership cards since the formation of the party, but if you check the balance sheet, you will be shocked. God only knows what happened to that money. At one point, we called for accountability and suggested mechanisms to plug leakages, but she was adamant and did not want to comply as she was also picking from the same cookie jar. Investigations later revealed that she was working with a syndicate of provincial co-ordinators.”

Mr Mutambara chipped in, “She does not respect accountability. She always defended underhand dealers who are using her to source funds. And she has not been open about how much money was raised (from international trips); even to the treasurer of the party. If one questioned her on such matters, she would become hostile.”

Ms Dongo added: “When we said people must account for the money they abused or misused, she would protect those people.

Imagine what would happen if she were to be the President of this country? A person who spends time with street dealers and takes them for advisors cannot surely lead. It’s sad.”

Former ZimPF youth chair Mr Luckson Kandemiri said, “One of her problems is the feeling of entitlement. The party became her personal project. When it came to the issue of money, it was a one-man show. Even the treasurer was not aware of how she was operating and of who was funding her trips locally and internationally. When you asked, you became her enemy.”

Trump Travel Ban? Kenyan Lady Detained at Chicago Airport for Hours, Denied US Entry

A Kenyan girl was denied entry into the United States just days after courts barred President Donald Trump from deporting immigrants.
The girl identified as Ednah Chepkoton, was held at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport for many hours after getting off a United Airlines flight on Saturday, February 4, 2017
The 25-year-old nursing graduate had been given a five-year multiple entry visa by the US embassy in Nairobi on Friday, January 20, 2017.
Narrating to the sad experience to the Star, she said:
‘We landed at around 9.30 am but when I was clearing with the customs an immigration officer called me aside and started questioning me. I was so confused and terrified. It was my first trip out of Kenya, she said.
The officer then started checking her luggage and documents. He asked her why she was carrying her academic papers and if she did not plan to return to Kenya.
‘I told him I always travel with my papers and that I had a return ticket,” she said.
After the interrogations which took four hours, the officer demanded her cell phone
‘He asked for the password which I gave to him,’ she said, adding she was then asked to leave the office.
‘I went back to ask why my case was taking long because my flight was leaving. It was at that juncture that the officer, who was with a woman in uniform, told me he had two questions for me,’
She was asked to choose between being banned from the US for five years and having her visa withdrawn.
Ednah requested the officers to let her call her cousin. They refused.
Caught between a hard rock and a hard place, she chose the cancellation of her multiple entry visa. Her visa now bears a United States Homeland Security stamp withdrawing it.
Ednah was bundled into a return flight to Nairobi at around 6pm, more than eight hours after setting foot in the US.
‘I was really looking forward to my one-month stay in the US. We had spent a lot of money on air tickets. It is so sad that after all the vetting at the embassy in Nairobi I was humiliated this much.
Upon returning to Kenya, she, however, called the US embassy and was told to send her denial of entry letter. – HowAfrica

Acid Test For Mnangagwa

Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa faces an acid test tomorrow when the Supreme Court hears an appeal against a ruling that sought to stop the Judicial Services Commission (JSC) from rolling out a process to find Chief Justice Godfrey Chidyausiku’s successor, with a group of lawyers now arguing that the veteran politician’s interventions violated the Constitution.

Bulawayo-based Abammeli Bamalungelo Abantu last week approached the Supreme Court seeking to be included in the case as an “intervener” and wants an order stopping Mnangagwa from allegedly violating the supreme law.

In its heads of argument, Abammeli chastised Mnangagwa for allegedly presiding over the breach of the Constitution, which his office as Justice minister, according to section 2 of the Constitution should safeguard.

Abammeli said its objectives and activities included, among other things, the promotion and protection of human rights and the rule of law in Zimbabwe.

The group of lawyers argued that Section 180 of the Constitution that spelt out the appointment of the chief justice in a very clear and unambiguous way remained binding even in the face of amendments to the provision.

“The third respondent [Mnangagwa], who doubles up as the Minister of Justice, has a duty to uphold the Constitution and ensure that its obligations are fulfilled as is required by section 2(2) of the Constitution,” Abammeli submitted.

“In fact, it is submitted that the third respondent is conflicted in that, on one hand, he is the mover of the Amendment Bill and seeks to have the constitutional clause in section 180 suspended in respect of the chief justice.

“The third respondent on the other hand was supposed to provide leadership in the upholding of the Constitution and ensuring fulfilment of its provisions as is required by section 2 of the Constitution.”

Abammeli added: “Orders therefore should be made as indicated in the notice of motion so that this kind of conduct is not repeated by any juristic or natural person. Public officers and individuals have a duty in terms of section 2(2) to fulfil the obligations imposed by the Constitution.

“These orders should be made in respect of the conduct of the third respondent as well as that of the judge in the court a quo.”

The lawyers said they would submit that setting aside provisions of the Constitution, basing on an impending constitutional amendment, was in violation of section 2 of the Constitution.

“Such a violation is of a serious nature since it poses a threat to the rule of law, which is at the core of our democracy,” Abammeli argued.

Chidyausiku will retire on February 28 and the appointment of his successor has been shrouded in controversy, with a Zanu PF faction accusing Mnangagwa of trying to influence the process as part of the battle to succeed Mugabe.

The appointment of Zimbabwe’s next chief justice was thrown in turmoil late last year after the High Court granted an order to University of Zimbabwe law student, Romeo Taombera Zibani to halt the public interviews for judges aspiring to fill the post as required by section 180 of the Constitution.

Mnangagwa filed an affidavit supporting Zibani’s application on the grounds that his Justice ministry was working on amending the Constitution to give Mugabe the sole responsibility to handpick the chief justice.

However, the interviews led by Chidyausiku went ahead after the JSC noted an appeal with the Supreme Court.

The interviews were attended by three judges — Deputy Chief Justice Luke Malaba, Justice Rita Makarau and Justice Paddington Garwe, while judge president Justice George Chiweshe boycotted the process. – The Standard

Chinamasa To Chop Civil Service Wage Bill By Half

GOVERNMENT will cut the civil service wage bill from 90 percent to 55 percent by 2018, a Cabinet Minister has said.

Finance and Economic Development Minister Patrick Chinamasa said staff rationalisation was already underway and bearing fruit.

“We are targeting to reduce the proportion of expenditure from over 90 percent to less than 55 percent by 2018-9. I am confident that we will achieve it.

“Government has two avenues to address the wage bill which are staff rationalisation and improving production. We have already started staff rationalisation and the other method is to grow the cake – production, production and more production. We are also dealing with the issue to do with the current account deficit,” said Minister Chinamasa.

The minister added that Government was undertaking fiscal and economic reforms to reduce the cost of doing business and to attract FDI.

“I’m very pleased with the progress made in addressing fiscal reforms and ease of doing business. As we speak Cabinet has already adopted a raft of measures to rationalise the civil service; these raft measures are now implemented.

“We already made some savings in 2016 (due to the rationalisation measures we have taken). Progress may not be fast as we want but it’s being made.”

Government has already abolished 22 000 posts which were deemed excess and saved close to US$100 million.

In line with IMF recommendations, Government is streamlining its 188 070-strong workforce.

In the first half of 2015, Treasury spent US$1,54 billion on labour, against revenue of US$1,718 billion. On a monthly basis, US$120 million is spent on salaries.

According to the 2015 Civil Service Audit Report, dominant labour cost drivers are abuse of overtime allowance facilities and leave days, salary fraud, idle manpower, role duplication and unco-ordinated recruitment.

Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Governor Dr John Mangudya said, “We need to deal with the current practice of using 90 percent of the national budget on civil service salaries.

“That cannot be sustained. It puts too much pressure on the system.”

He said this had resulted in the current cash crunch as Zimbabwe was spending more on salaries than on production that generates foreign currency. – State Media

Mayor Splurges On US$118 000 New Car

THE Bulawayo City Council spent US$118 000 in buying a top-of the-range vehicle for its Mayor, Councillor Martin Moyo.

The cost is almost double what the local authority spent when they bought their former Mayor, Mr Thaba Moyo’s vehicle in 2010.

Clr Moyo (pictured) got the vehicle a Mercedes Benz GLE 250 class a couple of weeks ago, replacing his Mazda BT50 which he has been using since his appointment in 2013.

Responding to written questions, the local authority’s senior public relations officer, Mrs Nesisa Mpofu defended the council decision to buy the car revealing that everything was done above board as they had received Cabinet approval hence rubber stamping the purchase.

“The purchase price was $118 000. The Mayoral vehicle was purchased following a council resolution of 6 November 2013 and Cabinet Approval Circular Number 16 of 2011 as well as approval by the Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing, the Office of The President and Cabinet and the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development,” said Mrs Mpofu. She said the vehicle, which was manufactured last year and is one of the latest ranges of Mercedes Benz, was bought locally at Isoquant Investments Private Limited trading as Zimoco.

In 2010, the local authority raised the ire of residents after they splashed $65 000 towards the purchase of a luxurious Dodge Chrysler for its former Mayor, Mr Moyo at the expense of service delivery. – State Media

HORROR FIRE: Church Building Engulfed In Flames

destroyed…the aftermath…

A ROMAN Catholic Church hall in Cowdray Park, Bulawayo went up in smoke yesterday, destroying property valued at thousands of dollars.

The fire only affected the Holy Trinity Parish hall as Bulawayo Fire Brigade officials reacted promptly before the fire spread to other buildings.

Confirming the fire incident, Bulawayo Fire Brigade senior divisional officer, Mr Linos Phiri said the fire began from the ceiling and they were suspecting that it had emanated from an electrical fault.

“Initial investigations of the burnt hall revealed that the fire started in the ceiling hence our belief that this could have been an electrical fault. However, our officials will continue investigating and have a full report on the actual cause of the fire by next week.

“We however, advice residents to constantly check their electrical connections to avoid such fires because they might lose property worth thousands of dollars, something which can easily be avoided through the constant checking of electrical connections,” said Mr Phiri.

Holy Trinity Parish priest, Father Gilbert Moyo said they were still assessing the extent of the damage, saying it was premature for them to estimate the exact value of the property lost to the fire.

“We are not yet sure of how much damage the fire caused, neither do we have information on what could have started the fire as yet. For now all I can say is that we lost property valued at thousands of dollars but we will get the exact figure within a day or two. We will continue working with the Fire Brigade to establish the cause of this unfortunate fire. It is however fortunate that there was no one in the church yard at the particular moment so there were no casualties,” said Fr Moyo.

The Parish chairperson Mr Dumisani Nyoni echoed Fr Moyo’s sentiments saying that it was going to be sad if there were going to be casualties noting that a building could be easily built back but the loss of human life was going to be more tragic. – state media

BLOODY ATTACK: Evil Robbers Pounce On Man

A MASVINGO man is battling for life at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals in Harare after he was shot at the back and on the thigh by two armed robbers who were attempting to steal from his shop in Pangolin suburb on Wednesday, police confirmed.

Mr Gift Cephas (31) of Mucheke reportedly subdued one of the robbers who was not armed before wrestling with the other one brandishing a pistol. When the unarmed robber realised that his partner was being overpowered, he assaulted Mr Cephas with fists and booted feet.

Sensing danger, Mr Cephas fled into the shop but was shot at the back and left thigh and fell unconscious on the veranda.

National police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba said the incident happened around 9pm. She said the suspects will soon be arrested as police were on their trail.

“I want to warn these criminals that they will soon be arrested. Our details are on their trail. We, however, urge shop owners to be very cautions of these robbers especially in Masvingo where they are wreaking havoc. We also appeal to members of the public against resisting orders, better give in as per their instructions because they are a dangerous lot,” said Snr Asst Comm Charamba.

A witness at the shopping centre said on the day in question, a man masquerading as a customer entered into Pangolin Mini Market at Pangolin Shopping Centre and asked for cigarettes from Mr Cephas. However, Mr Cephas told the man that there were no cigarettes and he went out, only to return in the company of another man.

“One of them asked for the price of mealie-meal. The other one, who looked tall, slim and dark in complexion and was clad in a three-quarter short and a yellow t-shirt drew a pistol and fired in the direction of Mr Cephas at the same time shouting that he wanted money,” said the witness.

Mr Cephas reportedly responded by punching one of the men on the face before grabbing the other one who was armed with a pistol. He said the armed man fired two shots intending to shoot Mr Cephas and he screamed for help but no one came to his rescue.

“Mr Cephas wrestled with his aggressor until they came out of the shop.”

It is said on realising that his accomplice was about to be overpowered, the other accused joined in and assaulted Mr Cephas.

Mr Cephas is said to have tried to flee back to the shop but was shot once on the back and once on the left thigh. The two then disappeared without stealing anything.

A shopkeeper from the next shop who had hidden behind the counter went to the scene after the two had disappeared and found Mr Cephas lying unconscious on the veranda. She then called for help and Mr Cephas was taken to Masvingo General Hospital where he was later transferred to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals in Harare.

A report was made at Chikato Police. Police also found spent cartridges and two bullet head casings in the shop which had blood stains. Snr Asst Comm Charamba advised members of the public with information on the whreabouts of the robbers to phone on 039-264421 or their nearest police station.-state media

“Deadly” CIO Stranded In New Zealand

A Zimbabwean ex-secret police officer who murdered for President Robert Mugabe’s regime has entered New Zealand on a fake passport and is trying to set up a life here.

William Nduku, arrived in New Zealand in 2015. Living in limbo, he was refused asylum or the right to work and study and has been forced to survive on handouts from friends and the expat community and could face death if deported back to Zimbabwe.

On arrival to New Zealand, the 31-year-old said he immediately informed Immigration New Zealand that he’d entered the country under an assumed identity and was seeking asylum.

He said at 19, he was forced to serve in Mugabe’s secret police and participated in up to 20 murders, several rapes and multiple tortures.

He escaped Zimbabwe more than a decade ago saying his life was as risk, now he wants to start life anew in New Zealand.

Nduku spent several months in Mt Eden prison. While in prison he alleged members of the Mongrel Mob assaulted him on a regular basis.

“It was awful. I wouldn’t wish that experience on anybody.”

His name is known to Immigration Minister Michael Woodhouse, who said he was prevented from discussing the case due to privacy.

A spokesperson for Woodhouse said he stood by all decisions made in relation to this case.

Nduku said he had been living off the generosity of others in Auckland, forced to try and make a living without the right to work.

He admitted to doing odd jobs for cash and even working for a fibre company for several months, who he claimed had underpaid him because of his status.

“It sometimes feels like the Government wants me to steal so that I can survive. I will never take anything that does not belong to me.”

“I once stole a mango out of hunger, and my mother gave me such a beating for it. My mother raised us right.”

Zimbabwe is known for the Mugabe leadership, characterised by rigged elections and the extreme violence meted out by his secret police and the central intelligence organisation in order to crush dissent.

Nduku said he was indoctrinated into this system from an early age. He said he had been forced to join Mugabe’s forces. Born into a life of poverty, he had to scavenge for food and had been unable to get proper access to education.

He lost both his parents and an older sister to HIV/AIDs, he said.

Once in the forces, he was trained in how to torture a person for information.

He recalled being told to drive a car into a large lake.

When they got into the car they found a bag of cement, and soon after realised that somebody was tied-up in the boot.

“Someone was watching us. We could see the glint of binoculars in the distance and it made us nervous. The man in the boot was badly beaten and disfigured. We ended up mixing the cement and pouring it into the boot with him.

“But we never locked the boot as we drove the vehicle into the lake. I guess we hoped it would give the man a fighting chance to try and escape.”

Nduku turned his back and walked away that day, never knowing whether the man survived.

While he had to witness and practice atrocities, he said he also saved lives, he claimed he always offered money from his own pocket to people who were earmarked for torture to aid their escape.

Nduku said it took two years as part of the secret police to realise he would be killed like many of his peers if he didn’t escape Zimbabwe.

He managed to escape to Namibia before he crossed the border into South Africa, where he spent almost a decade.

He alleged that he was illegally handed over to Zimbabwe, but that he’d managed to escape on the Zimbabwean side before members of the Zanu-PF party loyal to Mugabe could pick him up.

“I would simply have disappeared had they found me there,” he added.

He managed to return to South Africa where he ended up buying a fake ID for R15,000 (NZ$1,500). This allowed him to apply for a South African passport.

Human rights attorney Deborah Manning, who represents Nduku, has tried and failed to convince New Zealand’s Government to issue him a work or student visa.

A controversial case, due to Nduku having admitted crime, Executive Director of Amnesty International New Zealand Grant Bayldon said the case was difficult to comment on.

“Despite the nature of this case, the New Zealand Government must ensure a fair process to address his claims, along with a commitment to do so quickly.”

Immigration lawyer Simon Laurent said the Government were not obliged to issue a visa if asylum or refugee status has been declined to a person.

“It might be the case that he is in limbo because our Government is doing nothing because he came over on a fake passport from a third country. They might just not be able to find his real travel documents.”

However, he said usually if somebody had been declined refugee or asylum status they would be deported.

Nduku said he was desperately keen to get on with a life here and he wanted to study.

He was confident he would be able to eventually gain the right to work in New Zealand.

“Speak to me again in eight years and I’ll have my PHD. I just want the chance to make something of myself.” stuff.co.nz

Gono Assassinating Army Generals: THE FACTS

speaking out…Gideon Gono

Former Reserve Bank Governor Gideon Gono has for the first time spoken out on alleged rumours peddled by his former aide the disgraced Bikita West MP Munyaradzi Kereke.

The stories claim that the former central bank boss was in a plot to assassinate Zimbabwe national Army generals by poisoning them.

Kereke was part of the Mai Jukwa group that in the run up to the 2013 elections worked to spill several allegations on Gono’s dealings.

Gono told the state media how Kereke allegedly orchestrated a sophisticated scheme to discredit the then RBZ chief, including creating “evidence” of a plot to poison military generals.

Kereke, who is serving a ten-year prison sentence for rape of a minor at gunpoint, a fortnight ago apologised – through this newspaper – for making corruption allegations against Dr Gono and announced he had dropped the claims before trial.

Dr Gono told us he had accepted the apology, and then opened up on the events leading to him sacking Kereke in 2012.

“It became an open institutional secret that the man’s preoccupation had shifted to pleasing certain principals outside the bank, whom I don’t know.

“It became a question of trying to serve two or more masters at the same time. Accordingly, trusting him with sensitive matters of statecraft in my office or the bank in general became very tricky and difficult.

“I lost confidence in him totally after a series of incidents I considered compromising to the bank if not addressed through separation,” said Dr Gono.

He said by early 2012, Kereke was exhibiting political ambitions, which he later fulfilled by winning the Bikita West parliamentary seat after beating ex-RBZ staffer Mr Elias Musakwa in the 2013 elections.

“So powerful were some quarters operating in his corner such that he could command police to appear anywhere he wanted by just making one phone call.

“On the day he finally left the bank after several attempts to defy my orders, he phoned his friends in ZRP and suddenly four men armed with AK rifles and police cars appeared at the bank to carry all the boxes of secret bank files he wanted to take with him against the bank’s rules and separation procedures.

“They bullied bank staff and forced out the files. Now, if that was not a display of power and defiance, I don’t know what is. Any member of staff could be arrested or harassed by police at his say-so, inside or outside the bank.

“Although he had handed over some bank files to the team that was supervising the handover-takeover process, there are some files he refused to handover, claiming they contained special defence, police and security assignments he had been assigned to work on, without my knowledge, using my time in the bank.

“This was confirmation that there were forces that he was now reporting to other than the governor …

“As a result, he left the bank with confidential files and documents,” said Dr Gono.

Dr Gono said Commissioner-General of Police Dr Augustine Chihuri and his deputies were not aware of these abuses.

“I know that this police contingent was not sent by the Commissioner-General or his deputies. They were not aware of this operation to disrupt the smooth handover-takeover processes that are normal in any institution; threatening to shoot anyone who prevented Dr Kereke from taking home all files he wanted.

“The previous day, another contingent of police had also come to the bank armed with AK rifles with a view to intervening and persuading me to let Dr Kereke remain with the bank.

“In short, the man was now a bundle of connections, a powerhouse of indiscipline and unexplainable behaviour that answered to other authorities than myself or the system in the bank.

“His presence in the bank instilled so much fear and trepidation among junior and senior members of staff, including management. Even deputy governors felt powerless to engage him from a position of seniority over him.

“During private moments with junior managers and staff, Dr Kereke, would tell them of his imminent reassignment to higher offices and how he would soon be overseeing the bank and its operations.

“There started to be divisions in the bank, with staff being told who would remain in the bank and who would leave after the promised elevation and reorganisation.

“This confused many and created parallel structures of loyalty and factions,” explained Dr Gono.

“The last straw was when in January 2012 I returned from leave only to be confronted with bank supervision documents and a very mischievous and technically misleading report which had been ‘anonymously’ sent to a number of Politburo and Central Committee members, senior Government officials, security arms of the State and some Members of Parliament, alleging that my approval of EcoCash money transfer system was a political project by Strive Masiyiwa and myself to prop up opposition political parties so they could defeat Zanu-PF in the 2013 harmonised elections by creating a parallel central bank that would mint money and transfer it to the rural voting public in return for votes.

“At that time in Zimbabwe, few people understood the concept of mobile money and were easily manipulated.

“This trash of a report on EcoCash was surprisingly accepted as gospel truth in some circles and structures of the country with some senior Government officials swallowing its contents hook, line and sinker.

“The effect was to draw daggers against me and I became a marked man. So started the plot to bring down the governor by all means possible and usually, when a dirty job is to be done, there is no better person to do it than someone believed to be close, be it as a friend, a brother, sister, close relatives or workmate.

“Strategies to clone my voice were hatched and supposed recordings of me talking to MDC-T leader and former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai, letters with my forged signature of purported plots to destabilise Zanu-PF (were created).

“Purported attempts to poison and kill army generals and harm the President started to surface and made rounds in certain key offices.

“Some of these offices, out of genuine ignorance of these techniques, believed the plots as contained in the fake letters and my supposed voice.

“Day in day out, I wasted time managing rumour, suspicion and disenchantment caused by such a programme of disinformation and assassination of my character instead of focusing on national challenges.

“The atmosphere became poisoned and untenable but I could not put my hands on exactly who was behind those schemes.

“Against such a background, I got to a stage where, after talking to the President and consulting the board, I decided to dismiss Dr Kereke, and in order to avoid a contested route to the separation, the bank paid in full all his dues to the end of his contractual term of office, in line with his contract.”

The state owned Sunday Mail quotes Gono narrating how the corruption allegations negatively affected his businesses, his professional standing and his family.

Asked if he accepted Kerek’s apology, Dr Gono said: “Do I even have a choice on that matter at all? The Lord’s Prayer teaches us to ask the Lord for the ‘forgiveness of our sins as we also forgive those who sin or trespass against us’.

“I have already said that I have sinned countless times since I was born. I have sinned against all members of my family, my friends, relatives, acquaintances, workmates, juniors and seniors, principals and non-principals, and many others including Zimbabweans and non-Zimbabweans in general through my acts of commission or omission, and daily I ask God to reach out to the hearts and minds of all these people, soften them up and forgive me.

“Some I apologise to their faces, others I can’t, but I am a strong believer in the concept of apology and forgiveness as the Bible teaches us to do.

“Let he who has not made a mistake, who has not sinned, refuse to apologise and seek for forgiveness or refuse to accept a genuine apology such as that coming to me from Dr Kereke and hold back, even for a second, to forgive someone.

“However, acceptance of apologies and granting of forgiveness is not synonymous with forgetting. We will begin anew our relationship with munin’ina Kereke, but each one knowing the boundaries of that relationship.

“…I miss the moments when Dr Kereke was still the 31 to 36-year-old reliable, dependable, brilliant, sincere, honest, cheerful, hospitable, trustworthy pillar of my professional life; simple, sober and a one-wife character who I first taught farming at the Redwing section of my New Donnington Farm in Norton in 2004-2006 before he got his Pamene Farm in Chinhoyi; the ever smiling genius that he was. I miss those parts of him.”

Dr Gono said he had not withdrawn defamation suits for US$25 million and US$20 million filed against Kereke in June and August 2012, as he was still consulting with people affected by the corruption allegations.

One Killed In Kombi Accident

One person died and several others were injured when a commuter omnibus collided with a light passenger vehicle along Samora Machel Avenue near Long Cheng Plaza in Harare this morning (Saturday).

When the News crew arrived at the scene, the wreckage of the two vehicles which collided had been towed away and the injured ferried to hospital but the lifeless body of a middle aged woman who died on the spot was yet to be taken to mortuary.

An eye witness said the light passenger vehicle failed to give way at the intersection resulting in a collision with the omnibus which was speeding.

Residents of the area said the usually busy intersection has become a black spot and called on the city fathers to install traffic lights or grids on the deadly spot.

Police are yet to provide an official statement regarding the accident and the number of injured passengers. – State Media

Jindu In Second Bloody Murder, Leads Cops To Mutilated Body

A man from Bulawayo who allegedly killed his friend and buried him in a shallow grave in Burnside suburb could be a serial killer as he has led police to a second body.

Rodney Tongai Jindu (25) of Glengarry suburb allegedly shot Cyprian Kudzurunga (28) from Queens Park suburb at point blank range with a shotgun on January 29 before burying the body at a vacant residential stand in the leafy Burnside suburb.

Yesterday he led officers from the Criminal Investigations Department Homicide Section to the same piece of land — Number 13 Westmount Road — where the body of his second victim, Mboneli Ncube, was discovered next to the spot where he allegedly buried Kudzurunga.

Ncube, also known as Keith, went missing on January 12 this year. He lived four houses away from Jindu’s home in Glengarry suburb.

There is allegedly a third missing person who was last seen with Jindu.

Sources close to investigations said Jindu told police that he killed Ncube for ritual purposes and went on to kill Kudzurunga because he feared he would expose him after he (Kudzurunga) allegedly stumbled on evidence of the murder.

Police yesterday exhumed Ncube’s mutilated body. The head, a hand and both legs had been cut off.

“He said he killed Ncube after being offered $20 000 or a Toyota Quantum by a group of omalayitsha (names withheld). He said he shot Ncube dead and handed over the body to the cross border transporters who mutilated it and gave him the remains for burial,” said the source.

Ncube (age not established), was reported missing at Queens Park Police Station on January 15.

A source said Ncube’s family was alerted by a report in The Chronicle on February 6 detailing Jindu’s alleged cold blooded killing of Kudzurunga.

Neighbours in Glengarry said Ncube and Jindu were close friends with contrasting characters.

“Keith (Ncube) was a jovial young man, a devout Jehovah’s Witness, but Jindu was a quiet person who kept to himself,” said a neighbour.

It has since emerged that Jindu was targeting people whose surname is Ncube  for the ritual killings.

One of neighbours who identified herself as MaNcube said she became worried after learning from the police that he was targeting Ncubes.

After 10PM Kudzurunga then decided to walk home using a footpath linking Glengarry and Queens Park East. Jindu offered to escort him and allegedly killed him along the way.  “He was very nice to me. From the first day he came here, we didn’t suspect anything bad from him. But learning about his actions has made me develop goose pimples on my skin. I could have been his target that is why he was so nice to me,” said MaNcube.

“We’re shocked that someone as young and handsome as he is, is a ruthless killer.”

The Chronicle observed what looked like four empty graves at the stand where Jindu buried his victims.

It has also emerged that Jindu got a licence for the shotgun he allegedly used to kill Kudzurunga in November last year.

Ballistic reports indicate that about 36 bullets have since been fired from the gun.

There is allegedly no record of him going hunting or visiting a firing range for target practice.

He was often seen around the city centre selling second hand phones and laptops.

Meanwhile, a postmortem report has revealed that a bullet fired from point blank range went through Kudzurunga’s temple and exited at the back of his head after scrambling his brains.

The second bullet, that could have been fired when Kudzurunga was already dead, went through his chest and came out through his lower back, after mincing up his internal organs.

Last Saturday, police exhumed Kudzurunga’s body in a shallow grave after Jindu made indications and allegedly confessed to killing him.

He told investigators he sent a message to the deceased’s mother pretending to be her son suddenly leaving the country.

Jindu also allegedly stole Kudzurunga’s laptop and cellphone which he sold in the city centre.

He was arrested last Friday after making inconsistent statements to the police.

A source close to the investigations claimed that on the day of the murder, the two spent close to seven hours drinking alcohol at Jindu’s house.

On their way to Jindu’s place, the two bought a bottle of brandy which they drank. – State Media

“Leave Us Out Of Your Mess” ZEC Tells Mutasa And Gumbo

Staff Reporter | The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has literally told embattled Zimbabwe People First rival factions to go and sort out their mess and not bring in the commission.

The commission’s response comes after Didymus Mutasa and Rugare Gumbo, who claim to be the founders of the party, wrote a letter notifying ZEC that they had relieved Joice Mujuru of her duties as leader of ZimPF.

ZEC chairperson Justice Rita Makarau said that her commission does not register political parties nor does it interfere in the leadership of the parties.

“As ZEC, we do not register political parties and whatever internal disputes they have, we do not have a mandate to meddle in them.”

In the letter to ZEC and co-signed by Mutasa and Gumbo, the two said: “This letter serves to notify you that Joice Teurai Ropa Mujuru is no longer the interim president of Zimbabwe People First. She is no longer entitled to represent the party at any capacity nor to use the name Zimbabwe People First. Joice Teurai Ropa Mujuru was appointed as the interim president of Zimbabwe People First pending its inaugural elective convention.

“However, due to irreconcilable differences in ideological thinking and leadership qualities, we advise that we have removed Joice Teurai Ropa Mujuru as the party’s interim president. The founders of the party, Rugare Gumbo and Didymus Mutasa shall in the meantime act as the interim leaders of the party and shall be legitimate representatives of Zimbabwe People First.”

Former Prime Minister’s School Sues Dokora

By Staff Reporter | Zvishavane’s Dadaya High School founded by Sir Garfield Todd parents have dragged Primary and Secondary Education minister, Lazarus Dokora to court over the new education curriculum he has introduced.

On Thursday the Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe held a stakeholders meeting where it also resolved to sue Dokora

Bishop Mutume Laid To Rest

Hundreds of people came to bid farewell to the late Auxiliary Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Mutare right Reverend Patrick Mumbure Mutume who died on Wednesday after suffering for nine years from a kidney ailment.
He was laid to rest at Trials Hills in Mutasa district.

Many people thronged St Dominic`s High School in Mutare for the church service of the late auxiliary Bishop Mutume before the body was taken to its final resting place at Trials Hills.

A family representative Mr Danford Mumbure said the late bishop was a hard worker and pinnacle of the family, describing him as father to the diocese church in Zimbabwe.

A close friend of the late Reverend Mutume Bishop Sebastian Bakare who worked together with the presiding bishop of the Pentecostal Assemblies of Zimbabwe Bishop Trevor Manhanga and the late bishop in mediating during the 2008 elections which led to the establishment of the global political agreement and the subsequent formation of the inclusive government, spoke about Bishop Mutume’s commitment to peace and justice.

The Zanu PF national secretary for administration Dr Ignatious Chombo who was among the mourners said the late Bishop Mutume understood the essence of peace and described him as a reservoir of knowledge, with the Manicaland Minister of State for Provincial Affairs Cde Mandi Chimene underscoring the need for church to play its part in shaping the nation and ensure that peace is established.

The late Bishop Mutume played a big role during the liberation struggle and was incarcerated for his active political involvement by the Rhodesian government.

He was ordained priesthood and subsequently appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Mutare in 1979 after the expulsion of the bishop of Mutare, the late right Reverend Donal Lamont by the Ian Smith government. – State Media

Wife Dumps Hubby For Voting Trump

That’s according to retiree in Washington State, who told Reuters on Tuesday she called it quits with her husband of 22 years because he voted for The Donald — something she saw as a “deal breaker.”

“It totally undid me that he could vote for Trump,” said Gayle McCormick, 73, a retired California prison guard who called herself a “Democrat leaning toward socialist.”

“It opened up areas between us I had not faced before,” she said.

“I realized how far I had gone in my life to accept things I would have never accepted when I was younger.”

McCormick, who now lives in Bellingham, said she knew her husband leaned right politically. But she felt “betrayed” last year after he casually mentioned during lunch with friends that he planned to vote for Trump.A man listed in public records as McCormick’s husband wouldn’t discuss the divorce, and said he wasn’t aware an article had been published about it.

“Well I’ll be damned,” the man said when reached by the Daily News.

“I’m not gonna talk to you about it, so you have a Merry Christmas when it gets here,” he said.

McCormick did not immediately respond to a Facebook message. Facebook posts from November indicate she did not vote for Trump or Hillary Clinton.

‘Fired’ Bhasikiti To Defy Mujuru And Contest In Mwenezi East

President Robert Mugabe has set April 8, 2017 as the date for the Mwenezi East parliamentary by-election. The seat fell vacant on December 22, 2016 following the death of Joshua ‘Mazebra’ Moyo after a long illness.

The nomination court will be convened at Masvingo Magistrates Court on February 17, 2017.

Recently expelled Zimbabwe People First (ZimPF) founding member, Kudakwashe Bhasikiti said the ZimPF ‘brand is ours’ and vowed to contest the by-election on the party’s ticket.

He told TellZim News that ZimPF will hold primary elections to field a candidate for the by-election.

“What Mujuru did does not bother us at all. We are going to Mwenezi and no one will stop us. We will use the ZimPF brand and as for Joyce Mujuru, she will have to look for another name if she is still interested in politics. We are actually going to meet with party members tomorrow (Saturday) and hold our primaries,” Bhasikiti said.

“If people choose me to stand for them, I will do so. It is the people’s voice we should obey,” he added.

Bhasikiti also promised continued support for ZimPF candidate; Rosewetta Madzivire who is battling it out with Zanu PF’s William Shangwa in the Masvingo RDC Ward 12 by-election slated for February 25, 2017.

“ZimPF is going for the Masvingo RDC ward by-election and we are rallying behind our candidate full time,” Bhasikiti said.

In 2015, soon after his expulsion from Zanu PF, Bhasikiti failed to turn up for the nomination court despite having earlier promised to contest the seat as an independent.

Moyo was then declared winner uncontested but he soon fell ill and was unable to attend parliament for much of his time before he eventually passed away. – TellZim

Shock As Show Off Man Drowns In Flooded River

A 58-YEAR-OLD man allegedly drowned while show-boating swimming skills that he claimed he acquired crossing dangerous rivers in neighbouring Botswana.

Bhekelani Sibanda of Inyathi Cooperative, Ward 14 drowned in Ngwigwizi River in Inyathi at around 1AM on Wednesday while on his way home.

Ward 15 councillor Meluleki Sibanda said Sibanda was drunk at the time.

“He was walking from Mahamba Business Centre with Gugulethu Sibanda (33) of same area and five unidentified people. They were coming from drinking beer at the business centre,” said Clr Sibanda.

“They found Ngwigwizi River flooded and water was flowing above the bridge.

“There were stuck pedestrians on both sides of the bridge and about six commuter omnibuses and two private vehicles waiting for the floods to subside so that they could cross.”

“Sibanda announced to the waiting crowd and his friends that he was proceeding to cross the flooded river as he used to do so when he was resident in more risky places in Botswana,” he said.

Gugulethu and some others villagers tried to restrain him from crossing but he wouldn’t listen and he crossed heading due east.

In an attempt to show off to the rest of the nervous crowd, he got to the other side but tried to cross back. He was swept away by the floods when he was in the middle of the bridge.

A source said: “Police attended the scene and during investigations of the missing person at around 6PM, information was received from Gugulethu that the missing person had been swept away by floods during the night.”

By yesterday afternoon, police had not yet retrieved the body.

In another incident on the same day at Inyathi, Mduduzi Ndlovu (32) of Silas Hope Farm in Ward 14 allegedly drowned in Khoce River as he was coming from work at Joker Mine.

Ward 14 councillor Cookie Moyo said that Ndlovu knocked off duty at around 8AM on Wednesday and was walking home with workmates when the tragedy occurred.

“When they approached a crossing point at Khoce River, they found the river flooded. Ndlovu insisted he wanted to cross the flooded river but his workmates warned him not to.

“He did not take heed and jumped into the river. He was swept away by heavy currents when he was half way through,” she said.

She warned parents to advise school children to be extra careful and stay in one place when it is raining.

“This year’s rains have resulted in a lot of disasters. I urge pupils to stay at home after heavy rains, especially those who cross rivers and streams.

“In case it rains heavily when they’re at school, I advise that parents arrange that their children put up for the night at other villagers’ homes on that side of the rivers,” said Clr Moyo. – State Media

SADC, Electoral Reforms And Tsvangirai’s Highlands Mansion

Nomusa Garikayi | “The ruling ZANU-PF is exploiting the many weaknesses of Zimbabwe’s electoral system to outpace the country’s divided opposition. Yet without a real change of policy, the country seems doomed to steeper decline,” wrote Piers Pigou. See New Zimbabwe, opinion.

Stating Zimbabwe’s seemingly intractable economic and political chaos!

“The region could help. The Southern Africa Development Community and African Union have developed a framework for electoral conditions, and should launch an assessment of Zimbabwe’s democratic progress and shortfalls. They should carefully consider the concerns raised by NERA and others, and propose realistic reform implementation timelines ahead of the polls,” he suggested, as a solution.

Pigou is right, both SADC and AU could help Zimbabwe get out of this political paralysis; the truth is they will be very reluctant to help. The two were involved, especially the regional body SADC, throughout the 2008 to 2013 GNU; the region advised Tsvangirai and his MDC friends to implement the raft of democratic reforms designed to stop Zanu PF rigging elections. Their advice fell on deaf ears.

President Mugabe had turned his charm offensive, bribing the MDC leaders with the trappings of power and, as bonus, gave Tsvangirai a $4 million Highlands mansion. In return, MDC leaders kicked the reforms into the tall grass and failed to get even one reform implemented in five years of the GNU. Not one!

SADC leaders accused the MDC leaders of “enjoying themselves whilst in the GNU and forgetting why they were there,” in sheer frustration! It is therefore not surprising that SADC leaders have stayed out of Zimbabwe’s seemingly intractable political mess. At least for now, and not have to deal with the same dishonest Zanu PF tricksters and the breathtakingly corrupt and incompetent opposition leaders of the failed GNU!

The truth is Zimbabwe’s political and economic mess have a solution, implement the democratic reforms designed to stop Zanu PF rigging elections; this is what SADC leaders tried to get MDC to do but failed hence their resigned frustration. So why is it that not even one democratic reform was implement during the GNU when we had the golden opportunity to do so? The answer is obvious; we have a breathtakingly corrupt and incompetent opposition and a naïve electorate.

Even in the dying last months of the GNU MDC had the chance to save the nation from another Zanu PF rigged 2013 election, as Senator David Coltart readily admitted in his book.

“The worst aspect for me about the failure to agree a coalition was that both MDCs couldn’t now do the obvious – withdraw from the elections,” explained Senator Coltart.

“The electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility.”

It was only after the rigged elections in which many MDC politicians lost their seats on the gravy train that the cataract scales, born out of greed, finally fell off. They saw the wisdom of boycotting flawed elections. They will never take part in any future elections until reforms are implemented. “No reform, no elections!” they said.

Sadly, they soon forgot their resolution; they cannot resist contesting the 2018 elections for the few gravy train seats Zanu PF gives away to entice opposition participation. The cataract fog born of greed has returned!

It is for the people of Zimbabwe themselves, not SADC, to stop yet another flawed election taking place in Zimbabwe.

Zimbabweans should have been awake to monitor the goings-on throughout the GNU years. They would have picked the truth of Tsvangirai and his MDC friends “enjoying and forgetting why they were there,” as SADC leaders rightly said. Zimbabweans too would have seen the futility of participating in flawed and illegal elections, etc. and demanded decisive action.

The people have allowed MDC to waste the golden opportunity to implement the reforms, etc. out of sheer laziness on their part, as contrast to MDC leaders’ myopic blindness brought on by greed!

The people of Zimbabwe have had the last four years, since the rigged July 2013 elections, to review the GNU events and understand why Zanu PF was able to blatantly rig the 2013 elections.

“THE landslide victory of President Robert Mugabe’s ruling party in a 21 January by-election in Zimbabwe’s Bikita West constituency is a troubling bellwether for the future of the country,” warned Pier Pigou.

“It signals that presidential and parliamentary elections in mid-2018 are unlikely to be credible, free or fair, and also that without fundamental change through a legitimate election, Harare will maintain the self-destructive policies that have done so much damage.”

Pigou’s warning underlines the reality that the country cannot afford yet another rigged election and thus focus the minds of Zimbabweans on what THEY, not someone else, must do to ensure the next elections are free and fair!

The people of Zimbabwe must wake up from their sloth-like slumber and demand of Zanu PF the implementation of the democratic reforms, the pre-requisite for free, fair and credible. A free and meaningful vote is a right and not a privilege that Zanu PF can give to some and deny others. Zimbabwe’s economic recovery is now dependent on meaningful political change.

As of the double-crossing opposition, the people must demand that they promise to deliver democratic change by honouring their “No reform, no election!” resolution.

Zimbabwe’s political and economic problems are not really intractable, after all they are man-made – 37 years of incompetent, corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorial rule – and per se within the realms of mortals to solve. The Zanu PF dictatorship is itself a manifestation of the real root cause of Zimbabwe’s problems – a populous that has yet to take its responsibility of elect competent leaders with some common sense, at least, with the seriousness and urgency the matter demands!

Tsvangirai Wades Into Mujuru’s Dirty Party Storm

Opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai is apparently so concerned about the ugly fallout between Zimbabwe People First (ZPF) interim leader Joice Mujuru and the party’s founding fathers, that he phoned one of these stalwarts on Wednesday – Didymus Mutasa – to express his disquiet about the damaging ructions.

But despite his disappointment with the turmoil engulfing ZPF, the Daily News understands that the former prime minister in the government of national unity has also given Mujuru some oxygen of sorts by re-affirming his commitment to working with her in the mooted grand opposition alliance, which is expected to be in place by the end of this year.

Mutasa confirmed yesterday that a concerned Tsvangirai had indeed enquired from him about the farcical ZPF events of Wednesday, in which Mujuru fired her top lieutenants, including Mutasa and Rugare Gumbo – who responded in kind by summarily sacking the former vice president from the fledgling party.

“Tsvangirai phoned me about what is happening and I told him that he should ask Mujuru,” Mutasa said.

Tsvangirai’s spokesperson, Luke Tamborinyoka, also confirmed to the Daily News yesterday that his boss was very worried about the events unfolding within ZPF, but said there was “no turning back” on the opposition’s planned coalition.

“We cannot comment on what is happening at a neighbour’s house even if that neighbour is a friend, suffice to say that the president sees the developments as unfortunate.

“It is also unfortunate that it is the opposition that is attracting the negative publicity when the real culprit (Zanu-PF) is watching from the sidelines.

“But the decision to form a coalition has been made by the national assembly and we will stand by that,” Tamborinyoka said.

In an unexpected bombshell that shook both the opposition movement and ordinary Zimbabweans alike, Mujuru on Wednesday morning announced that she had expelled the founding elders of the party Gumbo and Mutasa, together with five other party heavyweights – on account of them being alleged Zanu-PF agents and working to topple her from her interim position.

“Having done extensive consultation within the rank and file of the party and also in my capacity as the president with the executive authority to ensure its wellbeing, I hereby announce the expulsion of the following members from Zimbabwe People First with immediate effect: Rugare Gumbo, Didymus Mutasa, Margaret Dongo, Kudakwashe Bhasikiti, Luckson Kandemiri, Munacho Mutezo and Claudious Makova,” she said.

But no sooner had she completed her briefing than the situation turned into a complete farce, when Mutasa and Gumbo announced at their own press conference that they had similarly expelled Mujuru from ZPF.

Gumbo said Mujuru had “revealed to all and sundry” that she was incapable of leading an opposition party, and was therefore not fit to hold such an office.

“She has declared war on us and the die has been cast. We don’t think that she is the right person to lead us. We no longer recognise her as the leader of People First,” Gumbo said at the packed media event which was also attended by the other supposedly expelled members.

Weighing in, Mutasa said even though the elders were still to settle for her successor, one thing they were sure about was that they were “tired” of her style of leadership.

“We are not surprised by her irrational and emotional decision purporting to expel us. In fact, at the time she held her press conference, we were waiting for her at the party offices as she had told us that we should wait for her since she was at the Trauma Centre.

“She has no right to expel us. Mujuru was in fact appointed by us the founders of the party to lead the party as the interim president,” Mutasa thundered in remarks that don’t bode well for the still-to-properly-take-off party.

“An intelligent Mujuru would not have expelled VaGumbo and Mutasa. She has not got even a modicum of intelligence,” Mutasa added mockingly.

But a defiant Mujuru said yesterday that the expulsion of the founding elders and five other officials was good riddance, as they were allegedly “damaged goods”.

Her spokesperson Gift Nyandoro told the Daily News that they now felt that they no longer had damaged goods within their ranks and would thus be able to negotiate better with other political parties as they endeavoured to form the mooted grand coalition against Zanu-PF.

“Nothing has changed over the talks. ZPF remains focussed on the talks . . . Mujuru is the face of the party and she is the one who was given the mandate to engage all other progressive opposition leaders to ensure that we confront Zanu-PF as a united front,” he said.

But as Nyandoro spoke, dozens of other party stalwarts were deserting the burning new kid on the political block yesterday, putting its future in doubt.

Amid the chaos, Mujuru has been working behind the scenes with Tsvangirai and other smaller opposition parties towards the formation of the planned grand coalition.

In addition, Zanu-PF apparatchiks have lately been working overtime to discredit Mujuru, in what observers have described as a desperate bid to scupper Tsvangirai’s ongoing coalition talks with her.

Analysts have also consistently said that a united opposition, fighting with one purpose, would bring to an end Mugabe’s long rule – especially at this time when the country’s economy is dying and the increasingly frail nonagenarian is battling to keep his warring Zanu-PF united.

Since Mujuru joined hands with Tsvangirai and marched with him in the streets of Gweru in August last year – in a rare public display of unity among the opposition – there have been growing calls by fed up citizens for the formation of a grand opposition alliance.

Earlier this week, Tsvangirai said Mujuru had proved to be a significant opposition player – and that the two would work together with others to dethrone Mugabe and Zanu-PF from power next year.

Mujuru was expelled from Zanu-PF together with Gumbo and Mutasa in the run-up to the ruling party’s sham “elective congress” in December 2014, on untested allegations of plotting to assassinate and topple Mugabe from power.

Mugabe Blocks Tsvangirai

Shyleen Mtandwa | President Robert Mugabe’s District Administration officials on Friday instructed local chiefs to block the MDC-T leader, Morgan Tsvangirai from meeting with his party supporters in that district.

Tsvangirai is on a national tour where he is engaging with communities in preparation for next year’s crucial elections.

On Friday,Tsvangirai invaded Masvingo on the same mission.

According to his spokesperson, Luke Tamborinyoka, at Gutu growth point Tsvangirai met only a few people as a result of an order which was given by the DA officials to stop people from attending the MDC-T leader’s meeting.

“So fearful has the regime become of these consultation programmes, particularly with traditional leaders that the Gutu DA called an emergency meeting with chiefs and headmen to scuttle the MDC leader’s engagements.”

“However, the turnout was good as most turned up to discuss the future of the country they love with President Tsvangirai,”said Tamborinyoka.

‘Mugabe Tactics Tearing Apart Opposition Parties’

Terrence Mawawa, Masvingo | Outspoken Progressive Democrats of Zimbabwe(PDZ) leader, Barbara Nyagomo, has called on democratic forces to unite and thwart President Robert Mugabe’s ploy to destroy opposition parties ahead of next year’s elections.

Speaking after the signing of the Coalition of Democrats (CODE) agreement, Nyagomo said the Mugabe regime was battling to split opposition parties ahead of next year’s crucial plebiscite.

Political analysts have, however, remained largely sceptical of the CODE agreement indicating Mugabe will remain unfazed by the setup. Commenting on the internecine battles in Zimbabwe People First party led by Joice Mujuru’s, Nyagomo said the Zim People First Project was infiltrated by Central Intelligence Organisation(CIO)agents from inception.
“Mugabe wants to weaken opposition parties ahead of the elections.Mujuru’s party has been infiltrated by CIO agents so the project is likely to collapse. However, it is imperative for opposition parties to unite ahead of the elections.

Mugabe wants to make sure that opposition forces are disjointed so let us resist his trickery,” said Nyagomo. Party Vice President Victor Mpofu said the CODE agreement was a milestone move towards the establishment of a united and democratic society ahead of the 2018 polls. “We strongly believe that the fragmentation of opposition parties is the major setback in the struggle for democracy. For so long we have been standing on separate latitudes thereby denying the citizens of Zimbabwe a legitimate government. However the CODE agreement will certainly transform the political situation in the country after more than three decades of suffering under the Mugabe regime,”said Mpofu.
However political analysts have said Mujuru’s decision to fire the seven tired political figures is noble and bold. “Mujuru is right because the seven tired political figures have nothing new to contribute towards the rebuilding of the ruined economy. The guys are past their prime so they have nothing to offer to the people of Zimbabwe,”said Batsiranai Ngugama , a local political analyst.

Mawarire For President Of Zimbabwe?

Grace Kwinjeh | #ThisFlag Pastor Evan Mawarire has won the popularity contest among Zimbabweans with many now referring to him as the “next President of Zimbabwe.”

This is against a background of Mawarire telling South-African papers that he is now ready to go into politics;  “The more I think about the options, the steps going forward, I realise you can only shout about potholes for so long. You start to realise where change comes from. So at some point we have to start saying that for those that have the ability, the passion, or the buy-in from the people, it may be time to throw your hat in.”

Mawarire caused a storm a few days ago after he suddenly returned home only to be arrested at the Harare International Airport. He was jailed in the notorious Chikurubi Maximum Prison for several days and is now out on bail, with his passport now taken by the state.

Many of the preacher’s supporters rushed to celebrate pushing him to start forming his cabinet. “Pastor start forming your (shadow)cabinet, no ZANU people please,” wrote one Janney Hutebonda.

Mr Munyaradzi Nyenya quipped in saying; “if Pastor Mawarire stands firm he can beat up all these other opposition parties. He is a man of his words, with God we prevail.”  ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW.

Another, Yvonne Chikanya-Ryan wrote saying she is; “so pleased. This is a man who owes Zimbabweans nothing yet he continues to put his life on the line for them.”

Mawarire told Zimbabweans yesterday that after ensuring the safety of his family, he was now back home to liberate the country from the vicious tentacles of the ruling Zanu PF party under President Robert Mugabe.

Speaking in a live video feed Friday afternoon, Mawarire said the reason why he decided to jet back into Harare is so that he can build ‘my country.’

“As I always said I would be back home, it was important thing that my family is safe, and I am glad that they are safe”.

He then explained why he has returned home saying; “As Zimbabweans it is important for us to understand that citizens who have committed no crime should never be afraid to build their country. Kana munhu asina kupara mhosva usatya kuvaka nyika yako. And so that’s why I am back…”

Meanwhile, Mawarire sits firm in the middle of two world revivalists spanning across 115 years – a curious tale of two (2) Roberts and two (2) Evans, but being just 3 people, the trio who are world shakers.

The US returnee Evan Mawarire could soon make Zimbabwe Gambian-glorious, Zimbos said last week as the preacher touched base in Harare.

EVAN-MUGABE

A LIVE ZimEye program on file which concludes that Mawarire’s flame contrary to the present negativity, will only burn brighter, correlates with those statements as the clergyman this week revealed he is considering entering active politics.

Mawarire whose journey as the article below narrates is at the centre of 3 revivalists, the first one was religious, the second one political and the last one is both political and religious.

Mawarire’s political path seems to ring true of a Shakespearan line, “Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them.” Mawarire himself does not seem to be totally in control or aware of his fast unraveling political path, the expectations and responsibilities that come with it. Take for instance a strange development which saw Mawarire being the only person in the whole country who could imitate Mugabe’s “Salad” accent. He would appear at weddings shouting like the 92 year old tyrant: “Government refuses to accept the sanctions imposed by the United States and their allies on our land…” while poking laughter into revelers at weddings. He even graced the wedding of spin doctor Prof Jonathan Moyo’s daughter. Moyo works for Mugabe the latter who led Southern Africa’s political revival from 1975 to 1981.

Then bang!  – suddenly came May 2016 when Mawarire en-flamed Africa’s first political revival typical of the famous Welsh Revival 1903-4 when the whole Welsh nation was gripped by “a love for God” to the extent that thieves, murderers and crooks became extinct and police officers were retrenched as there was no more crime in the land. That revival was led by another Evan whose surname was Roberts. From Evan Roberts, to Robert Mugabe, and now to Evan Mawarire – the story seems to tell more than meets the eye what Zimbabwe is awaiting with the sudden rise of Evan Mawarire. For now the recent weeks have seen many corrupt ZRP cops hit by the #ThisFlag campaign begin to confess “their sins” and seek public clemency. More to follow in PART 2

UK £28 Benefits Nurse Cheat Avoids Jail Cause Of NHS Staff Crisis

A nurse who behind a £28,000 benefits scam has avoided a jail sentence – because the NHS is so short-staffed.

Kwanele Mhlanga claimed Jobseeker’s Allowance and housing benefit for four years after he started working.

But he was handed a suspended three-month jail term and told to complete 120 hours of unpaid work at Birmingham Crown Court.

Judge Francis Laird told him that nursing was “short in numbers and the need is great”.

Laura Culley, prosecuting, said Mhlanga coame to the UK as an asylum seeker and initially made legitimate benefit claims.

But he then took part-time jobs as a support worker and a care worker and registered with an employment agency.

He also completed a course in mental health care at Wolverhampton University , receiving a student loan and a bursary.

Mhlanga, 36, of Holly Road, Edgbaston , should have declared his income to the authorities and received £28,741 to which he was not entitled, the court heard.

He had previously admitted three charges of failing to notify a change of circumstances.

The judge told him: “Benefits are stretched to the extreme and the difficulties are exacerbated by people, including you, who defraud the system.

“You are a qualified nurse registered with an agency.

“You may be able to get work and some one will consider your skills outweigh your conviction and give you employment.

“The nursing profession is a noble profession that requires dedication and selflessness.

“For the last four years you have displayed quite the opposite traits but, as I have said, it is a profession short in numbers and the need is great.”

Amrisha Parathalingam, defending, said Mhlanga was looking for work and had demonstrated remorse.

She said his mother lived in Zimbabwe and he had been sending £400 a month to her.

He had also repaid £1,500 after taking out a loan.

Figures from the Institute for Employment Studies last year suggested one in ten NHS nursing posts in England was unfilled and the Royal College of Nursing said there was a 20,000-strong shortage.

Grace Mugabe And Tich Mataz

Grace scene with Tich Mataz

Shyleen Mtandwa | The First Lady Grace Mugabe whose $1,4 million diamond ring customs duty scandal stink has reached high-heaven is in a pair-scene with popular DJ Tich Mataz.

Tich Mataz is in court for allegedly evading customs controls for an allegation worth no more than $538, while Grace Mugabe’s stink soars beyond $1,4 million.

Tich Matambanadzo is now grounded inside Zimbabwe having been ordered to surrender his passport while Grace on the other hand freely skirts around the world, untouched as Mugabe’s wife. The two cases have drawn the public attention on how the First Family abuses state resources for their immoral gain.

Yesterday Grace Mugabe was reported pushing the High Court to discharge what she termed an erroneous order it issued against her and son, Mr Russell Goreraza, in the case in which they grabbed properties belonging to a Lebanese businessman, Jamal Ahmed.

Grace through her lawyers yesterday, claimed that the judge was misled into issuing a “flawed” order.

Her arguments flighted in the state media, another state apparatus she freely abuses read in part stating:

The order by Justice Clement Phiri compelled Amai Mugabe, her son and Superintendent Kennedy Fero of the Zimbabwe Republic Police to vacate the properties owned by the businessman when, in actual fact, the properties were under police security as exhibits.

The investigating officer Superintendent Nyambo Viera confirmed in the several cases involving Ahmed that the securitisation of the properties was a police operation and that it had nothing to do with Amai Mugabe or her son.

Ahmed’s lawyers, after learning that the First family had nothing to do with the protection of the buildings, even went on to write to the police seeking eviction of the guards.

Amai Mugabe and Mr Goreraza are now seeking discharge of the December High Court order against them.

“It is humbly submitted that the interim relief granted by Justice Phiri on 21st December, 2016 must be discharged and in its place be recorded: ‘the application be and is hereby dismissed’.

“The interim relief was directed towards the respondents who clearly are not connected to the properties in question and therefore it is misplaced and a folly for first applicant (Ahmed) to persist with the need to have a flawed order confirmed when instead it must be discharged on the return date,” read the heads of argument.

The lawyers argued that the First Lady and her son never occupied the properties in question, neither did they visit the premises at any time.

“It is therefore very clear to this honourable court first and second respondents were never at any of the properties.

“Third respondent (Supt Fero) is in the Police Protection Unit. They are charged with protecting properties, individuals and places of interest to the police.

“It cannot therefore be said guarding these crime scenes was out of the realm of his duties,” argued the lawyers.

Manase and Manase law firm challenged Ahmed’s lawyers to bring their fugitive client to Zimbabwe so that he presents himself to the police.

“It is up to the lawyers to assist the State by bringing their client within the jurisdiction of this court.

“Enough information has been made available to the accused in the affidavit of Superintendent Viera for first applicant to understand what is on the table in the investigation that involves him.

“He cannot bark like a dog in the wilderness.

“He must come to Zimbabwe and present himself to the police. He cannot lecture the police on their operations, pretending to be upright and to be a proponent of the rule of law and human rights of Zimbabwe as a foreigner.

“He must attend CID Law and Order to answer questions,” read the arguments.

It was also argued that Ahmed intentionally sued the wrong parties to malign and humiliate them.

“It is humbly submitted that first applicant wants to malign, humiliate, demonise, insult, belittle and cause other hurts against the respondents and the First Family for unknown political reasons as evidenced by the smear campaign in the local and foreign media,” the lawyers argued.

The matter is yet to be set down for hearing at the High Court.

NYAMBIRAI DRAMA: Woman Pays Maintenance To Hubby

Terrence Mawawa, Mwenezi| In a dramatic twist of events, a woman who had dragged her husband to court for maintenance made a stunning U-turn and told the court she was ready to maintain her husband.

Fungai Masviba of Renco Mine dragged her husband, Tinashe Nyambirai, a cattle herder to court to claim maintenance for the couple’s three children.

Masviba said her husband was unable to fend for the family.

Nyambirai earns $90 per month.

Nyambirai said he was doing his best to fend for the family and he also said he doubted the paternity of their first born and third born respectively.

Mwenezi Magistrate Honest Musiwa had initially ruled that Nyambirai should pay $45 per month but Masviba argued the money was not enough.

She later performed a U-turn when when she suddenly claimed she was capable of paying her husband $80 per month. Masviba indicated she wanted to go to South Africa to seek employment so that she could provide for the family. “I have decided to work for my family because my husband is failing to fend for the family. I will go to South Africa to seek employment,” said Masviba.

Stunned by the sudden about-turn, the magistrate later advised the couple to do what was good for the family. He further urged them to reach a consensus for the sake of their children.

Zimbabwean Man “Killed” At Lindela Deportation Centre

A ZIMBABWEAN man is suspected to have been “killed” after he died under unclear circumstances while being held at Lindela Deportation Facility in South Africa.

Ntando Ndlovu (36) from Lupane District in Matabeleland North Province is said to have died in December last year and his family only received the disturbing news on Tuesday morning.

Zimbabwe Consular General to South Africa, Mr Batiraishe Mukonoweshuro, said Ndlovu had been arrested for illegal migration.

“Ntando Ndlovu passed away on 8 December 2016 while at the South African deportation holding facility known as Lindela Deportation Facility. The facility houses illegal immigrants that would be awaiting deportation.

“Ndlovu was an illegal immigrant as he didn’t have documents to validate his stay which led to his arrest. The cause of his death is still to be ascertained,” he said.

Ndlovu’s sister, Samukeliso, said the family was informed on Tuesday through the Lupane Registry office that he had died in South Africa two weeks ago.

“Ntando was the last born child in our family and his passing has left us devastated. The most painful part is that we will never know what caused his death or how he died. We knew Ntando as someone who was working in South Africa and then we suddenly hear that he is no more,” she said.

Samukeliso said her elder brother Simon was advised to visit the Registry office to sign an affidavit to enable them to collect their sibling’s body.

She said authorities from the neighbouring country had indicated that they had struggled to locate his brother’s relatives as he did not have any form of identity.

“My elder brother was informed about Ntando’s death on Tuesday morning. This news came as a huge shock to us. They told him Ntando died while being held at a prison in South Africa. We were not informed of the cause of his death, why he was arrested or which prison he was being held in,” Samukeliso said adding that Ndlovu last communicated with his family in August last year.

She said he was staying with some relatives in the neighbouring country but he moved out in August and that was the last they heard from him. Samukeliso said her young brother was not involved in criminal activities but was a quiet and reserved person.

She said they were making plans for the body to be repatriated for burial at his rural home. – State Media

Mujuru Boosts Mugabe 2018 Win

Zimbabwe People First (ZimPF) leader Joice Mujuru has effectively boosted the political fortunes of her former boss President Robert Mugabe.

Some Zimbabweans have expressed dismay over the goings-on in the opposition Zimbabwe People First (ZimPF) party led by former vice president Joice Mujuru, who expelled some top members Wednesday claiming that they wanted to unseat her.
In turn, the expelled members – Rugare Enock Ngidi Gumbo, Didymus N. E. Mutasa, Margaret Dongo, Kudakwashe Bhasikiti-Chuma, Luckson Kandemiri, Munacho Mutezo and Cloudious Makova, also claim that Mujuru, terminated her links with ZimPF when she made the announcement.
In response to journalists, some Zimbabweans said such friction in opposition parties will assist Zanu PF to retain power in an impoverished nation, which it has ruled for more than 36 years.
One of the respondents, Tinayeshe Sithole said opposition parties in Zimbabwe are a waste of time.
His remarks were echoed by Tinashe Zvidza, who noted that “ … It means Zanu PF is Zimbabwe and it is here to stay.”
According to Paul Gold, another respondent, “(Friction in ZimPF) That’s why opposition parties won’t win (national elections) …”
The same skepticism was expressed by Zamani Nyathi, who only said, “After all that they will tell us that they are going to defeat ZANU PF. Never!!”
Sibangani Ncube noted that Mujuru “is another aspiring opposition leader who will spend more time fighting for her survival as an opposition leader than getting into ruling politics.”
Others expressed skepticism over Mujuru’s party in forming a coalition with opposition parties like the Movement for Democratic Change led by Morgan Tsvangirai and others, pointing out that her party was now too weak to pose any kind of threat to President Robert Mugabe’s ruling Zanu PF party.
A respondent identified as Perpias Masigale stressed that “I don’t see the reason of MDC should have a coalition with Mujuru as the MDC won the election in 2008 on its own. We cannot trust Mujuru. Please Tsvangirai stop this for the love of your supporters and the nation.”
Ethen Chidziya expressed the same sentiments, saying there were indications that the MDC-T was also facing serious internal squabbles.
“This is very scary and with rumours that the MDC-T is divided with (vice president Thokozani) Khupe defying Tsvangirai. One can’t help but to think we need Plan B.”
Elliot Murevesi said, “Opposition? Grand coalition? Really? Kkkkkk! Maybe Grand ZERO!”
Other respondents said divisions in ZimPF were being fueled by Zanu PF ahead of the 2018 general elections.
Mathews Estone is among repondents thinking that there is a hidden hand in factionalism gripping Mujuru’s party.
“The Zanu PF game plan cannot be ruled out here as dividing every opposition unit is their survival tactic. It’s time to think deeply whether it’s Mujuru or the fired cadres who are playing the game on behalf of Robert Mugabe and his Zanu PF.
“Wait and see some of the fired people will have their cases heard in Zanu PF meetings and re-admitted into structures so they give the internal plans of ZimPF and other opposition parties which they shared during (National Electoral Reform Agenda) NERA and other proposed coalition meetings.”
Some Zimbabweans, who responded to the VOA Studio 7 Facebook thread, simply urged Mujuru to endorse Tsvangirai as the leader of any opposition coalition to be formed ahead of the 2018 general elections.
Zanu PF expelled Mujuru and her colleagues alleging that they wanted to topple President Mugabe. – VOA

Bond Notes Miracle

THE overall cash situation in the country had improved in December due to the introduction of the bond notes, whose commencement started off with some controversy.

But long queues have resurfaced at the banks, despite the introduction of higher denominations notes last week.
The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) governor, John Mangudya, in November last year introduced the bond notes, which have been pegged at par against the United States dollar, despite resistance from the public, which feared the new currency would experience a battering, triggering shortages and the emergence of a commodities black market.
But today, the notes have become a dominant feature in local transactions and are being dispensed by banks instead of the greenback.

Although the bond notes were meant to be an incentive to exporters, the currency, said to be backed by an African Import and Export Bank (Afreximbank) facility, has been used in place of US dollars to mitigate a cash crunch that troubled the country for much of last year.

The RBZ has said its ceiling for bond notes in the economy would be US$200 million, in line with the Afreximbank facility.

Analysts told the Financial Gazette’s Companies & Markets (C&M) that the drift into local currency was likely to affect banking sector stability and also ruin the country’s fragile economy if the quantity of the surrogate currency circulating in the market is not managed well.

They warned that the use of bond notes, inevitably, has posed serious challenges, particularly in the financial sector which could fail to service off-shore lines of credit they accessed for on-lending in Zimbabwe.

The situation is also likely to trigger an inflationary crisis due to the fact that the money is not backed by production in the economy.

“It’s a big challenge for local institutions to access (foreign) cash for settling their offshore transactions unless one is on the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe priority list for foreign currency allocation,” said senior research fellow at the Zimbabwe Economic Policy Analysis and Research Unit (ZEPARU), Cornelius Dube.

“It’s quite a big issue,” Dube noted.

Economist, John Robertson, said: “People are still queuing for bond notes, meaning that bond notes are just out numbering the United States dollars, which are disappearing.

He warned: “Government has to be careful with the quantity because it is the quantity that will determine value. If they (bond notes) become too much, they would lose value.”

There are fears that the cash-strapped government could soon start to print even larger volumes of bond notes to fund a number of its local commitments, and buy foreign currency from the market for its external obligations.

This, it is feared, could result in another hyperinflationary scourge probably of the magnitude witnessed in 2008 that forced the country to abandon its currency.

Many ordinary citizens lost their life savings when the currency lost value.

For ordinary Zimbabweans, memories of the collapse and demise of the Zimbabwean dollar in 2009 and the hyperinflation that caused its destruction are still fresh in their minds.

Government is desperate to raise cash to pay its workers, estimated at over 350 000, but it does not have the financial capacity to do so.

Considering that the country is headed towards elections, the ruling party may be tempted to print significant volumes of bond notes to enable government to pay civil servants.

In response to questions from the Financial Gazette’s Companies & Markets, Bankers Association of Zimbabwe (BAZ) president, Charity Jinya, said although bond notes usage had resulted in an improved cash situation, she hinted that it was not a panacea to cash shortages in the market.

Jinya said: “Bond notes were introduced, largely as an incentive to exporters, in a manner that would not encourage further foreign currency leakages as notes are only useful within the country.”

“As bond notes cannot be externalised and contribute, in a carefully managed way, to the stock of cash in the market, this has resulted in improved availability of cash in the market. Bond notes are, however, not a panacea for cash shortages in the market.”

Mangudya, recently said about US$80 million worth of bond notes had been issued to the market, which BAZ described as a “minor part of the overall money in circulation in the country”.

But this injection was followed by a further release of an undisclosed amount of $5 bond notes.

BAZ insists loan repayments are “part of the priority list for foreign currency allocation” and will therefore not be affected by the introduction of bond notes.

Jinya said: “Banks’ ability to service offshore lines of credit largely depends on the level of exports generated, the level of Diaspora remittances and foreign direct investment into the country.

“It is important for banks to keep track of the foreign loan repayments as they disburse the limited foreign currency in line with the agreed priority list. Loan repayments are part of the priority list for foreign currency allocation.

“We at BAZ continue to encourage the transacting public to make more use of electronic payment channels and use of bond notes for local transactions in order to conserve foreign currency for priority imports and loan repayments.

“Important measures such as the ease of doing business, policy consistency and predictability, are key factors in building market confidence and stability.”

CBZ Holdings chief executive officer, Never Nyemudzo, echoed Jinya’s sentiments.

He said the introduction of bond notes had “a positive impact not only in the banking sector but the national economy as a whole”.

“Bond notes have reduced cash shortages in the economy and have provided liquidity through the five percent export incentive scheme,” said Nyemudzo.

Commenting on the possibility that these could undermine banks’ capacity to repay offshore lines of credit, Nyemudzo said: “Our lines of credit are a mix of import and export finance. They are predominantly export finance availed to exporting companies, thus the repayment thereof is linked to export receipts of the financed entity.”

Zimbabwe officially adopted a basket of foreign currencies which included the South African rand, the Botswana pula, the British pound, the Euro, and the United States dollar in 2009 to end a hyperinflationary crisis that had resulted in widespread commodity shortages and the collapse of all economic activities.

Last year, the country faced severe liquidity problems, with local banks running out of US dollars due to an import-export imbalance.

Imports widened significantly and the outflow of cash from the country increased.

This gradually depleted the stock of money in the economy, and the situation was worsened by the fact that government started borrowing heavily from banks and eventually failed to raise the cash to pay back its debts.
This worsened the cash crisis.

Banks were forced to set withdrawal limits of as little as US$50 a day and hundreds of Zimbabweans had to sleep in bank queues to withdraw their money from banks.

In the run-up to the introduction of bond notes, which were first announced in May last year, opposition parties and civil society groups protested against the new currency, saying it would worsen the country’s economy.

Former vice president, Joice Mujuru, who now leads the Zimbabwe People First and Harare businessman, Fred Mtandah, approached the courts in a bid to stop the RBZ from launching the bond notes, saying the move was unconstitutional and an infringement on fundamental rights.

Mtandah has since lost his High Court case, but that for Mujuru is yet to be determined.

Lawyers have also approached the Constitutional Court challenging the use of Presidential Powers in promulgating the law supporting the introduction of bond notes. – FinGaz

Mugabe ‘Death’ Prophet Remains Behind Bars

The trial of incarcerated Kariba-based pastor, Patrick Mugadza, who is accused of abusing the Zimbabwean national flag by participating in a demonstration while draped in the national emblem, yesterday again failed to kick-off for the third time, as the court was overwhelmed with other matters.

The matter was remanded to February 20, when provincial magistrate, Lazini Ncube said it would be treated as a priority matter.

During the previous two hearings, the matter failed to kick off as a result of the shortage of judicial officers. But the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) moved in and resolved the situation resulting in a magistrate being appointed to handle the case.

The cleric’s defence counsel, Obey Shava, had at the last hearing, castigated the JSC for the delays, arguing his client would not receive a fair trial within a reasonable period.

Mugadza is currently being held at Harare Remand Prison over another matter in which he allegedly prophesied that President Robert Mugabe would die on October 17 this year.

Meanwhile, a 32-year-old human right activist, Denford Ngadziore, who is facing charges of convening an unsanctioned meeting calling for Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology minister Jonathan Moyo’s citizen arrest, also appeared before the same magistrate and his matter was postponed to Monday.

The case was deferred, as the court indicated it was not ready to deliver a ruling on the suspect’s application for discharge at the close of the State case.

Ngadziore, who is on $100 bail, is also being represented by Shava.

Allegations against Ngadziore are that on October 17 last year, he went to the ministry’s offices, where he convened and addressed an unsanctioned gathering demanding the immediate arrest of Moyo over the alleged misappropriation of over $400 000 from the Zimbabwe Manpower Development Fund.

The State alleges Ngadziore, who was the convener, addressed the gathering without notifying the regulatory authority at the Harare Central Police District. – Newsday

ZESA Power Lines Nonsense!

Dear ZimEye.

Mr editor can you please find out and advise us the public if there is any legal instrument through which ZESA and ZETDC can compel citizens to cut down trees, growing within their properties, that interfere with ZESA power lines.

If there is such an instrument what does it say in cases where a citizen or their private tree cutter gets accidentally electrocuted in the process.

Grace Mugabe Humiliation As Aides Are Thrown Out

Terrence Mawawa, Mwenezi | The First Lady Grace Mugabe’s top aides in the Masvingo Province were thrown out of a Zanu PF closed door meeting in Mwenezi last weekend. The two, Jeppey Jaboon (Provincial Political Commissar) and Amasa Nhenjana (ousted provincial chairperson) were ejected from the closed door meeting held to vet party candidates ahead of the Mwenezi East by-election.

Party sources told ZimEye.com Nhenjana and Jaboon were thrown out of the crucial party meeting by reinstated chairperson Ezra Chadzamira and Gutu Central MP, Lovemore Matuke both strong members of the Team Lacoste Camp.

“Jaboon and Nhenjana were humiliated at the Mwenezi meeting. They were openly told they were not party of the invited officials,”said a party source. Jaboon later returned and pleaded with Chadzamira and Matuke to allow him to attend the meeting.

“Jaboon returned later and distanced himself from Nhenjana claiming Chadzamira’s reinstatement was above board. It practically means Jaboon has switched back to Team Lacoste. Remember Jaboon was a member of the Lacoste faction before joining G-40.He has performed another U-turn,”said a party official. Jaboon was not readily available for a comment on the matter. Zanu PF Provincial Secretary for Administration, Alois Baloyi said Chadzamira’s reinstatement was legitimate.

“It should be known that as a province we have made a decision .Everything was done properly. We respect the will of the people. We forwarded the details to the President last week,”said Baloyi.

Man Assaults Disabled Father

father attacker…no remorse

A MAN from Bulawayo has landed himself in trouble after he allegedly assaulted his disabled father.

Bhekimpilo Sinyoro (23) of Lobengula suburb yesterday appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Ms Nyaradzo Ringisai charged with assault.

He denied the charges and was remanded in custody to February 13 for trial. Prosecuting, Mr Stewart Madzore said sometime last month, Bhekimpilo assaulted his father Mr Richman Sinyoro (53), who came to court in a wheel chair, after he tried to stop him from assaulting his wife.

“On January 27 this year, the accused person was having an argument with his wife which resulted in him assaulting her. The complainant tried to refrain his son from assaulting his wife. The accused person got angry and turned on his father,” said Mr Madzore.

He said Bhekimpilo assaulted his father with fists and also kicked and slapped him. Neighbours allegedly came to Mr Sinyoro’s rescue and effected a citizen’s arrest. Bhekimpilo was then handed over to the police.

In a statement to the police, Mr Sinyoro said he was assaulted after he attempted to stop Bhekimpilo from assaulting his wife for going to the shops to help her husband’s mother without his permission.

“My son assaulted his wife in my presence and I tried to stop him. I told him that it was disrespectful that he would assault his wife for helping his mother, my wife, at our shop without his permission. He got angry and turned to me and started assaulting me. I could not fight back because I am disabled. I could not even flee from him,” he said.

Bhekimpilo’s wife, Ms Lindokuhle Sebele (18), told the court that her husband assaulted her because she went with her mother-in-law to the family shop.

“My husband’s mother asked for my assistance and I complied. This did not go down well with my husband and he started to assault me. He threw my belongings out of the house and told me to go back to my parents. My father-in-law intervened, but my husband ended up assaulting him too,” she said.

ZEC Rubbishes Gumbo, Mutasa

Didymas Mutasa

Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has ignored a request for it to intervene in the Mutasa, Mujuru tussle.

The decision on who owns Zimbabwe People First now lies in the hands of the nascent party’s supporters after the ZEC categorically stated that it neither had any part to play in the registration of political parties, nor settling of their internal disputes.

The statement came after Messrs Didymus Mutasa and Rugare Gumbo — who claim to be the founders of the party — said they had written a letter notifying ZEC that they had relieved former Vice President Dr Joice Mujuru of her duties as leader of ZimPF.

In the letter, the two stated that they had since assumed leadership of the party made up mostly of Zanu-PF rejects.

ZEC chairperson Justice Rita Makarau said she had not been in office for this whole week after she lost her mother-in-law.

“I am not sure if that letter reached our offices. I lost my mother-in-law and have not been in office this whole week,” she said.

“As ZEC, we do not register political parties and whatever internal disputes they have, we do not have a mandate to meddle in them.”

Messrs Mutasa and Gumbo said they had parted ways with Dr Mujuru due to “irreconcilable ideological differences”.

Mujuru fired back, describing the two as “old men” who always claimed ownership of all political parties they had once joined.

Although Dr Mujuru tried to wear a brave face, part of her faction’s executive resolutions on Wednesday were evident that she was feeling the heat in her camp.

Smarting from the Bikita West by-election rout, Dr Mujuru announced that her party was no longer going to participate in all future by-elections describing them as “unnecessary distractions.”

In the letter to ZEC and co-signed by Messrs Mutasa and Gumbo, the two said: “This letter serves to notify you that Joice Teurai Ropa Mujuru is no longer the interim president of Zimbabwe People First.

In an earlier interview, Mr Gumbo said they would convene in the next seven days to elect another interim party leader.

He said they preferred a young person to take over the leadership of the makeshift party pending an elective congress.

As a united outfit, ZimPF had in the past two years, failed to elect a substantive leadership.

“What we need to do is to sit down because we don’t want to repeat the same problem when we picked Joice Mujuru simply because she was a Vice President,” he said.

“We want to do extensive consultations to find a young person who will drive this thing to congress. We don’t want to take precipitous actions again and, we are going to sit down possibly in the next seven days.”

ZimPF spokesperson Mr Jealousy Mawarire said they would not be bothered by antics of expelled people.

“Those are expelled members and what we will simply do is to ignore their antics. They once said they are the original Zanu-PF (and) now they claim to own ZimPF,” he said.

“Each and every party they join, they claim ownership of it. They are possessionists who have a warped belief that every political party that they have been once part to is owned by the two. They have done that with Zanu-PF. After their expulsion, they claimed to be the original Zanu-PF.

“We are not surprised at all that they now claim to be the ZimPF founders. It satisfies their egos every time they are expelled from these voluntary organisations to masquerade as their owners. It helps them to manage depression attendant to the expulsions, but surely in practical terms it exposes how politically naïve they are,” said Mr Mawarire.

“They once visited the court trying to claim ownership of Zanu-PF and embarrassingly lost the battle and it surprises everybody that the two old men have surely learnt nothing from the futile attempt in the past to try to usurp ownership of political organisations that are supposed to be mass driven, and not owned by individuals – let alone those who are in the twilight of their checkered political lives.”

However, what is instructive is how the Dr Mujuru camp had decided to dodge elections as a way of managing the embarrassment that comes with electoral defeats.

The party, before its split, was heavily trounced by Zanu-PF in the recent Bikita West by-election.

The Mujuru camp chickened out of all elections yesterday, but the Mutasa/Gumbo group said they would participate – a clear indication that the party had split into two distinct factions.

The Mutasa and Mujuru camps traded expulsions on Tuesday citing diverse reasons.

The Mujuru group accused Mutasa and his camp of being Zanu-PF infiltrators bent on destabilising the party, while Mutasa hit back labeling Mujuru a dictator and incompetent leader.

Meanwhile, Mr Sylvester Nguni, who was leading the administration department resigned from the party and said: “I have resigned from Zimbabwe People First ( ZimPF) and am being asked to explain why.

“I desperately want to see a peaceful and prosperous Zimbabwe and became involved in ZimPF as I believed it would be a good platform to promote the interests of the people, as outlined in the party policy document BUILD (which I crafted ).

“Fundamentally, leaders and people in general, should be able to deal with disagreements by following a process. Here, we have two sides in ZimPF that have clearly shown that they do not subscribe to the view that correct structures can and should deal with opposing views,” said Mr Nguni in his statement.

He added: “I was left with no choice but to leave the party as it was clear to me the leadership did not see things the same way and would not change in their ways.” – state media

Govt To Introduce New Highway Code Next Month

THE Government is set to introduce a new Highway Code next month as part of ongoing efforts to enhance road safety and reduce accidents on the country’s roads.

Transport and Infrastructure Development Minister Dr Joram Gumbo on Wednesday told Parliament that the upgraded Highway Code embraces traffic signs in the Sadc region. “An upgraded Highway Code encompassing Sadc signs is set to be launched on 30 March, 2017. I urge Members of Parliament and the public to familiarise themselves with the contents of the code,” he said.

The Minister said Government has, in line with Sadc harmonisation of standards for testing drivers, started constructing at all VID yards, Sadc standard hill starts, three-point-turn, parallel parking and reversing facilities.

“The system entails that learner drivers who would have come for a road test, pick a ball from a basket with an office number leading them to the examiner who will take them for the test.

“This strategy is envisaged to counter a pre-arranged corrupt choice of an examiner for the practical tests,” he said.

Dr Gumbo said plans were also underway to introduce road safety education into school syllabi.

“A comprehensive road safety document has been submitted to the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education’s Curriculum Development Unit (CDU) for consideration with a view to including road safety education into the school curriculum,” he said.

Dr Gumbo said his ministry through the Zimbabwe Traffic Safety Council carries out continuous road safety awareness campaigns targeting children in schools, Junior Parliament, chiefs, headmen, and village heads.

“The Traffic Safety Council also conducts training in defensive driving for both public service vehicles and private drivers all in a bid to reduce carnage on our roads,” he said.

The Minister said some accidents were caused by poor road signage and lack of carriageway markings.

“There is a huge backlog on carriageway markings and general signage on our roads. Regrettably, most road signs have been vandalised and we are acutely aware of the contribution this has had on accidents on our roads,” he said.

Dr Gumbo said the rehabilitation and replacement of road signage requires a huge budget and urged people to report any acts of vandalism.

He said retests for public service vehicle drivers have seen a reduction in loss of lives and property.

The Minister said his Ministry has a zero tolerance policy to corruption in line with the aspirations of Zim-Asset.

Shock as Mujuru Delisted from ZEC Records

By Simbarashe Chikanza| In a move set to take the Zimbabwe People First squabbles to another height, the said “self proclaimed” founders of the party Rugare Gumbo and Didymus Mutasa have today written to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission delisting party leader Joice Mujuru’s name from the government organisation.

The letter submitted this afternoon to the electoral body claims that Mujuru is no longer the bona fide leader of the party and is no longer allowed to deal or transact with ZEC in the name of Zimbabwe People First.

The move is bound to see a protracted court battle for the use of the name which both parties claim to be owning.

ZimEye.com could not immediately get a comment from both parties. An official at ZEC head office in Harare confirmed receiving the letter co-signed by Mutasa and Gumbo. The copy is below:

Cuthbert Dube Demanded $1,2 Million Cash

PREMIER Services Medical Aid Society (Psmas) has demanded to be reimbursed US$1,2 million by former chief executive Cuthbert Dube for money he allegedly drew from the company without authorisation, including funds he channelled to the Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa).

The health insurer is also demanding that Dube surrenders a house in Harare’s Glen Lorne suburb which he is accused of buying using the organisation’s funds.

This comes as the Zimbabwe Independent understands that the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) is carrying out investigations to establish if Dube prejudiced the health insurer.
Dube was fired three years ago after his hefty salary and perks sparked public outrage. He was taking home about US$500 000 per month in salary and allowances at a time the company was struggling.
Psmas board chair Jeremiah Bvirindi said the matter regarding Psmas’ demands would soon be taken to court although Dube is already aware of the demands being made.

“He is aware of the demands made by Psmas for what we perceive as unjust enrichment pointing to improper conduct as the then chief group executive that severely prejudiced the society and the impact of which is being felt by the subscribers,” Bvirindi said.

Asked about the Zacc investigations and when Psmas will conclude its own investigations, Bvirindi said: “It is true, the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission obtained a search warrant and Psmas has since submitted everything to them but I am not privy to how far they have gone with the matter.”
Documents in the possession of the Independent show that Psmas has been trying to get a refund from Dube since September last year.

Through its lawyers, Psmas wrote to Dube on September 6 demanding the money and the house.
“Our client instructs that while you were in its employ, you wrongfully and fraudulently caused the purchase and transfer of the property commonly called No. 5 Barrington Close, Glen Lorne, into your name when it had been identified and paid for by the society.” reads the letter written by Muzangaza, Mandaza and Tomana legal practitioners on behalf of Psmas.

Psmas also demanded from Dube cash amounting to US$1,2 million.
“Our client also instructs that during the time you were in its employ, you claimed and received varying sums of money, purportedly as reimbursements for medical expenses you had incurred,” the letter reads.

According to the ongoing Psmas investigations, Dube is said to have not submitted any documents to support those claims.

“Our client’s investigations show that those claims were non-existent and therefore fraudulent,” the document reveals.

“So far, our client has unearthed no less than 35 of such instances, whereby the prejudice to the society is US$947 569. Our client is entitled to recover such prejudice from you and in that regard we are instructed to demand from you that the said sum, failing which legal proceedings will be instituted for the recovery of the sum, interest and costs.”

Psmas also wants Dube to pay back money he allegedly channelled to Zifa which had nothing to do with the health insurer.

“It is common knowledge that our client is not involved, directly or indirectly, in the affairs of football administration in Zimbabwe. Our client instructs that while you were in its employ, you fraudulently accessed and withdrew sums of money for use on your trips as a football administrator,” reads the letter.

“To date our client has unearthed instances of such fraudulent withdrawals amounting to US$285 000.”

In his response through his lawyers Venturas and Samukange, Dube dismissed the demands, saying Psmas has to familiarise themselves with his contract.

“We have been handed a copy of your letter addressed to Cuthbert Dube. We were surprised and taken aback that you sought to deal with our client directly when you know very well that we represent the said Dube,” reads the letter dated September 19.

“Our client’s instruction is that it is quite clear you are not familiar with his contract of employment especially as to what benefits he was entitled to.

“Our client denies that he has done any wrong or anything unlawful which is prejudicial to the society. We suggest that you familiarise yourselves with the terms and conditions of his employment.”

Meanwhile, it has emerged that the Psmas board blocked the payment of a hefty exit package to Dube which he was awarded after retiring in 2012 before being rehired.

Documents at hand show that on May 15 2012 Psmas approved an exit package which included full
maintenance of two vehicles for five years. The maintenance included fuel, repairs or service and comprehensive insurance cover and any other costs associated with the roadworthiness of a vehicle.

“In the event of the current group chief executive being offered a consultancy contract by the group, the group chief executive officer shall be entitled to full entertainment allowance including purchase of entertainment cards from the Meikles, the Sheraton (now Rainbow Towers), Rainbow group, Zimsun (now African Sun) and the Cresta group,” reads the document.

Dube’s exit package to be paid over five years included the privilege of employment of two domestic workers (one cook and one gardener) fully paid for by the group; fully paid utility bills for two residential properties; 24-hour security cover at two of his residential properties; a personal driver and one personal assistant whose salaries and benefits shall be paid by the group.

“The group chief executive shall be entitled to holiday allowances of two international holiday destinations per annum, three regional holiday destinations per annum and quarterly local holiday destinations per annum.”

For all the holiday allowances, the former group chief executive was entitled to business class tickets including that of his spouse or partner. He was also entitled to the organisation’s most superior scheme or plan on a non-contributory basis and with all shortfalls being met by Psmas including for his spouse or partner.

Dube, according to the exit package, was to have his telephone and three cellphone bills paid for by Psmas; US$1000 groceries monthly and a house. -Independent

“All provincial chairpersons except the Midlands Province expressed their support to the president on her move and so did the youth, the freedom fighters and the women,” said Mawarire.

The verified full composition of the Executive was not available at the time of writing.

Mujuru held a full National Executive meeting which only excluded the dismissed seven members and Sylvester Nguni and Coghan Matanhire who sent their resignations from the party to Mujuru in the course of the day.

Sources within the party told ZimEye.com that Matanhire and Nguni were originally in the list of people who were meant to be dismissed from the party but were removed at the last minute after some members of the national executive felt that their cases of insurgence against Mujuru were not clear cut.

The sources also indicated that the name of Ray Kaukonde was never in the list as Kaukonde has never accepted official membership to the party.

Grace Expels CIO Over Night Club

furious….Grace Mugabe
The First Lady Grace Mugabe has fired a senior security aide over allegations that he failed to protect her son, Robert Junior in a night club scuffle in Dubai.

Grace who is reported to be increasingly paranoid concerning her security is also reported in local papers to have made more sweeping changes to her security team, firing those she no longer trusts and hiring new personnel.
The weekly Independent paper reports that Grace has overhauled her entire security team amid growing suspicion and insecurity caused by Zanu PF factional tensions and endless intra-party squabbling emanating from President Robert Mugabe’s unresolved succession question.

The sweeping changes, which occurred in December, saw Grace’s long-serving and most experienced aides Albert Mujuru and Max Mapfumo falling by the wayside. Grace also got rid of her entire close security personnel numbering up to 10.

Grace’s security team is now led by a senior security aide known as Mubvakure, who was among the aides rejected by Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa in 2015.

Mubvakure is leading a team which includes low-level officers from the Police Protection Unit (PPU).
Mapfumo was reportedly axed for failing to intervene when Robert Mugabe Jr was involved in a scuffle in a night club in Dubai last year.

The incident saw a furious Grace questioning his loyalty.

Mujuru was removed under the pretext of disciplinary action in the aftermath of an accident he was involved in on November 7 last year.

He allegedly drove through a red traffic light at the intersection of Samora Machel and Glenara Avenue in Harare.
Mujuru was said to have hit a car which was in the intersection, leaving the driver injured.
A source in the security sector revealed that, other than the personal circumstances, the changes were informed by “political rather than professional reasons.”
“The major reason why the changes occurred is because the First Lady and those around her believe her team could have been infiltrated by her political rivals. She suspected that some members of her team were giving her rivals information about her movements, meetings, personal and family business deals, among other information,” said an official.
“It could have been paranoia on her part, but she had become sceptical of some of her aides’ loyalties. The aides were however given the impression that the changes were instigated by their bosses as part of routine redeployments, but the fact is that Grace no longer trusted them although some had served her for up to 20 years.”
Grace is a key member of the G40 faction, which is engaged in a bitter war of attrition with a faction led by Mnangagwa over Mugabe’s succession. Mnangagwa is considered by some to be in pole position in the succession race, but the G40 faction is banking on Grace’s proximity to Mugabe to upstage him.
Grace believes some of her aides have been spying on her and her family on behalf of the Mnangagwa faction, hence the wholesome changes.
Officials revealed that some of the former aides have been negatively affected by the redeployments.
“The comrades have also lost big allowances and have been deprived of their luxurious lifestyles. They were living large and making a lot of money from allowances they received from accompanying the First Lady on her numerous trips,” said an official.
Mugabe and Grace are known globe-trotters. Grace has a particular liking for China and Dubai, where the Mugabes are renting a 10-bedroomed upmarket and luxurious villa in Emirates Hills, at a cost of about US$500 000 a year.
Grace’s decision to change her aides, said government officials, was confirmation that the Central Intelligence Organisation and other security agencies have become entangled in the country’s succession politics.
Her decision to rope in the PPU, which does not provide close security, but guards homes of senior government officials and judges, is seen as confirmation that she believes that the CIO is largely working for Mnangagwa.
Grace is close to Zimbabwe Republic Police Commissioner-General Augustine Chihuri, who is said to be anti-Mnangagwa.

Mnangagwa also rejected a number of his aides in 2015 after questioning their loyalty. He argued that most of the aides assigned to him had in the past been either deployed to provide security to former vice-president Joice Mujuru or her allies.

Other than Mubvakure, those rejected by the Vice-President nclude Tendai (DIO in charge of Vice-President’s Office) as well as close security aides Chigova, Mageza, Nhire, Bhenyu, Jarawana, Kamurani, Kaitano, Nyamukowo, Chokururama, Chivhunga and Chimire.- Independent/Additional

Mujuru Secret Headache

Staff Reporter|ZimEye.com is reliably informed that the ongoing split in the Zimbabwe People First party is based on differences in handling thorny Matabeleland issues between the founding party elders Didymus Mutasa and Rugare Gumbo against President Joice Mujuru.

Inside sources within the party told ZimEye.com that a major feud between Mujuru and her elders is around what the elders describe as Mujuru’s, “failure to uphold the founding principles of the party.”

According to the elders Mujuru also over opened up the party and brought in too much buy in from members from other opposition parties when she was appointed interim President. The elders instead wanted the party not to be a mainstream opposition party but a splinter of ZANU PF against President Robert Mugabe’s control of the ruling party.

The sources further indicate that the elders were particularly never happy with Mujuru’s over incorporation of the Matabeleland regions into the party and its leadership. According to the sources the final spark of the flames between Mujuru and the elders, arose last month after Mujuru allowed for the inclusion of the devolution of power concept and the inclusion of a secretariat in charge of National Healing and Reconciliation issues which have always been barred from the ZANU PF operations.

Both the devolution of power and the national healing and reconciliation clauses in the constitution were brought in by the Matabeleland regions much to the infuriation of the elders.

Mujuru is reported to have been warned several times by the elders of her soft spot for the Matabeleland regions where she has been visiting more frequent than all the other provinces.

According to the sources the elders were due to dismiss Mujuru from her position on Tuesday morning on the grounds of insubordination and failure to uplift the values of the party. Information to the regard found its way out of the cabal which had held a meeting the previous night and got to Mujuru who immediately summoned her provincial chairpersons to seek a resolution to dismiss the elders before they could execute their own dismissal of her.

Tich Mataz Arrested Again

Top radio and television personality Tichafa “Tich Mataz” Matambanadzo yesterday appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Court facing allegations of smuggling after he failed to declare several clothing items he had brought from China.

Harare provincial magistrate Lazini Ncube presided over Matambanadzo’s matter and remanded him to February 27 on $100.

As part of his bail conditions, Matambanadzo was ordered to surrender his passport, report at Harare Central Police Station and not to interfere with known State witnesses.

It is the State’s case that on January 7 at around 10am, Matambanadzo arrived at Harare International Airport aboard Kenya Airways from China.

The State alleges Matambanadzo picked his luggage from the carousels and proceeded to the green route, where he was then stopped by a Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) official, Patrick Mukanganwi, who then directed him to go the red route.

It is alleged Matambanadzo was handed over to another Zimra official, Munyaradzi Mhanda, who was manning cubicle number three of the red route, who then handed him a declaration form.

After making a declaration, Mhanda went through Matambanadzo’s goods and discovered he had several suits, shirts, tracksuit bottoms and shoes, according to the physical examination form. After working out the duty, Mhanda found out Matambanadzo was supposed to have paid $538,75 in duty, which he had not.

The State alleges Mhanda then proceeded to yet another cubicle to capture the information in the system, but upon return, he discovered Matambanadzo had disappeared without paying the required duty.

Francisca Mukumbiri appeared for the State.

Mujuru Dead End

By Wilton Nyasha Machimbira | The Zimbabwe People First party has been engulfed by a power struggle inferno. It’s indeed a case of struggle within a struggle and one wonders whether the Zimbabwe opposition political parties will be able to oust ZANU PF when they cannot manage and organise themselves. Being a CEO of a political organisation is not a walk in the park, its complex and challenging. It requires innate abilities and robust conflict management skills. The Zimpf party has been torn by internal strife notwithstanding the fact that it is in its embryonic stage. History has it that political parties normally go through a very difficult phase after unexpected results in elections. Such is a case of post-election trauma. The trauma can fuel disharmony which can result in complete disintegration of the party. The ruling NCA in South Africa was not spared of post-election trauma after the just ended elections which saw the party support base dwindling in metropolitans of Johannesburg and Pretoria.

The phase Zimpf is going through is an unavoidable phase especially in the opposition politics of Zimbabwe. It’s unfortunate but very normal because by its very nature politics is a struggle for power and not a beauty contest. The dismal performance of MDC in 2005 saw the party disintegrating with rival factions citing irreconcilable differences. Electoral defeat has to be treated with political astuteness. Political defeat has to avail a golden opportunity for a defeated political party to engage in thorough self-introspection. The problem with opposition players is that they feel that they got less incentives to glue them together as is normally the case in ruling parties. Ruling parties hardly split not because they are united or disciplined but are rather glued together by the benefits of incumbency. In the case of Zimbabwe such benefits of incumbency include farms, mines, company shares and board appointments and jobs in general. The fear to lose the above incentivises the political players in ruling parties to come together and protect their benefits politically.

The just ended by-election in Bikita that was won by ZANU PF is a case in point. Zimpf had high hopes of defeating the ruling party. They also wanted to test the political waters. It was more of a political experiment done for strategic reasons but the impression is that some members failed to take lightly the results of the political experiment hence the scape goating and unwarranted name-calling. It’s important for those unhappy with Bikita West election results to note that the Constituency is historically a Zanu PF constituency and not a swing constituency. Had it been a swing constituency maybe the squabbling could have been justified.

The Interim leader of Zimpf Joyce Mujuru alleges that the ousted members were clandestinely working in cohorts with Zanu pf to derail the people’s project. One wonders whether a mere Interim leader has Executive powers to fire other members willy-nilly. One also wonders if indeed the expelled members were working with ZANU-PF to sabotage Mujuru. It’s probable that they might not have worked with ZANU-PF per se but only wanted to challenge Mujuru’s presidency within the party hence Mujuru’s pre-emptive strike against the so called elders. The truth from time immemorial is always a casualty when there is a conflict. Political squabbles create smokescreens and pretexts for one to manoeuvre his or her way through.

The Tsvangirai factor is also said to be a bone of contention within Zimpf. The impression that the so called Elders (Didymus Mutasa and Rugare Gumbo) are anti-coalition with the former Premier’s MDC needs to be interrogated. Do the elders really think they can single-handedly defeat ZANU-PF and form the next government? One also wonders if the Elders are anti-coalition per se or anti-coalition with Morgan Tsvangirai. If the latter is true then the people of Zimbabwe have a long way to go. The monster of politics of personalities is the greatest Achilles heel of Zimbabwean opposition politics and that works in favour of ZANU-PF. The problem is that if the Elders are honestly anti- coalition with Morgan Tsvangirai one then wonders whose interest they are advancing bearing in mind that ZANU-PF invests in intelligence. Mujuru knows ZANU-PF way of doing things and the anti-Tsvangirai stance by the Elders gives credence to suspicions that the Elders might be nicodimously working with ZANU-PF to scuttle to grand coalition schemes currently underway.

Taking into consideration President Mugabe’s confession that Didymus Mutasa once called him and Claudious Makova praise-singing of Robert Mugabe after Zimpf’s Bikita electoral defeat one is tempted to conclude that Mujuru has managed to remove chaff from wheat. It’s a typical case of good riddance. Political splinter groups are always vulnerable to infiltration by the main wing political party. Not all who join the splinter group will be sincere, some will be on a mission. A three D mission, to destroy, dismantle and disrupt.

Only time will tell…

Man Blames N’anga For Fondling Own Daughter’s Private Parts

Terrence Mawawa, Mberengwa | A 38-year-old local man has blamed a traditional healer for instructing him to fondle his daughter’s private parts.

Gilbert Baloyi (38) of Hlatini Village under Chief Mahlabeza in Mberengwa is being charged with indecent assault. He appeared before Magistrate Sengster Tavengwa last week.

Baloyi left the court in stitches when he claimed he was instructed by a traditional healer to fondle his 18-year-old daughter’s private parts.

He further said the traditional healer instructed him to perform some rituals on his daughter to accumulate wealth.

The court heard that Baloyi called his daughter to his bedroom on November 29 around 10 pm. He took off her blouse leaving her breasts exposed and applied some herbs all over her body including her private parts. He was fully aware there was a possibility his daughter would not consent.

Baloyi took advantage of his wife’s absence and told the girl that he loved her so much. He proceeded to fondle her private parts.

He then ordered his daughter to drink some sour medicine. While wearing an underwear Baloyi ordered his daughter to lie on the floor and her daughter managed to escape as he attempted to force her to have sex with him.

Baloyi followed his daughter to the bedroom and gave her the sum of $2 and ordered her not to tell anyone. “I was instructed by a sangoma to smear some herbs all over my daughter’s body so that I would become rich. I did not intend to have sex with my daughter. I wanted to perform rituals according to the sangoma’s instructions,” said Baloyi.

The girl reported the matter to her mother who alerted the police.

Baloyi insisted he visited a local traditional healer who gave him herbs to apply on his daughter’s body to enable him to amass wealth.

AUDIO – Mandiwanzira Begs UK To Replace Him With Mugabe

Staff Reporter| Information Communication Technology and Courier Services minister, Supa Mandiwanzira, on Wednesday begged Britain to replace President Robert Mugabe with him on the sanctions list saying that the ageing leader was more important than anyone in the country.

Magaya Humiliated | MYSTERIOUS DEATHS

Staff Reporter| Zimbabwe’s only preacher who has presided over the mysterious deaths of at least 12 people inside his church programmes, Walter Magaya has been humiliated over the false claims he made that he last year healed popular singer, Soul Jah Love in December.

Magaya in December forced the singer out of his wheelchair causing him to pace around while in pain, all for the show of cameras in a false claim that the singer had been healed.

But investigations have revealed Soul Musaka now rumoured to have been amputated, did not improve at all and within weeks would rush to seek medical attention in the United Kingdom contrary to Magaya’s claims, the preacher at whose meetings 11 people have instantly perished, and another victim who was the preacher’s girlfriend, Chipo Chakanyuka died (mysteriously) under his care.

Soul Jah Love at home

It never rains but pours for the serial-sex-scandal-ridden necromancer who has confessed to dishing out tens of thousands of dollars so to cover up for his escapades, and last year roped the singer into the stage act. SEE PICTURES BELOW. Story continues below…

Last month Soul Jah Love confirmed to ZimEye in an exclusive interview that he was of a truth hospitalised at Northampton Hospital. He however revealed he does not want people to know too much about his health struggles, SEE VIDEO – (STORY CONTINUES BELOW VIDEO).

Contacted for a comment at around 3pm(Zim time) Thursday, the singer’s phone continuously reported to be switched off. If he has truly been amputated, people will soon know of it (SEE THE BELOW EXPLANATIONS).  This is a developing story and ZimEye is continuing following up with the singer.

The before and after  (Medical advice)

“Patients feel often anxious before an amputation and sometimes very depressed. Once the trust to doctor and treatment team is build up, the mood will lift,” says Thomas Böni. After the surgery, the pains and questions about the “new” life are to the fore. “First of all, I had to deal with the pain. Only later it occurred to me: What I can do what not,” says Manfred M.  about his amputation after a car accident.

“For many patients, the imagination is worse than the reality, and they quickly learn to cope with the new situation surprisingly well. Other people need a little more time and can, for example, not yet look at the stump at the beginning during changing the dressing. With patience and affection, the patient can usually accept his condition soon. It is important that we and the relatives can accept the patient as a full person; this transfers to the patient and his/her self-esteem,” says amputation surgeon Thomas Böni.

The time between surgery and prosthetic adjustment

For most affected people, the process between surgery and adjustment of prostheses is particularly exhausting and tedious.

Affected people face a variety of changes after the amputation. In addition to the physical function limitations, developments in the psychosocial field play a crucial role. Often, changes in professional and family environment have to be processed.

In this phase, many specialists are working together to ensure the most possible mobility and flexibility for the patient. In addition to these physical activities, the psychological rehabilitation and social situation also play essential roles.

The majority of amputees experiences stump pains or phantom pains during this phase. Stump pains are caused by processes that are localised in the stump itself. Phantom pains can occur after the removal or denervation of a limb. They take on different pain characteristics and are triggered by various factors. Phantom sensations are sensations in the area of the no longer existing limbs.

“If possible, patients must be informed about the risk of phantom pains even before the amputation. We expect about 10% therapy refractory phantom pains, which are a real problem. A good preoperative and postoperative pain management is important. Today, there are powerful drugs to combat phantom pains, along with those drugs, an early activity with the stump is important,” explains the Senior Consultant Thomas Böni.

There is no formula for coping with an amputation

Each affected person overcomes amputation differently. Personality factors, social environment and previous life events are of great importance the processing of an amputation.

Joice Mujuru: HANDOVER TO NELSON CHAMISA, GAVANGA!

YOUR TIME IS UP! Stand down gracefully from Zimbabwe politics at once!

The author is a war veteran of the liberation struggle

Nomazulu Thata|You have become irrelevant to the politics of Zimbabwe Runaida Mujuru! Your dignity is on the line; please preserve what you can right now before it is too late. You need to die a hero dear Comrade Runaida Mujuru. You are now and present and in the future painfully irrelevant to Zimbabwe politics. You lost it long back the past 34 years: you will never win back what you lost years ago by whatever means. You have credentials to guard upon enviously: military and politically. Musarasazvese Mainini Joyi! The times they are changing: have changed for the younger generation to take over from where we did not get it correct.

This is the moment where we think we have failed and we must pass on the baton to the next generation: our children and grand children. We must learn to swallow our pride dear Runaida. We must tell ourselves that we have aged. The politics of today is not of our age but younger generations. What you are doing with Rugare Gumbo and Didymus Mutasa is out of this world. Murikizvinyadzisa pamberi peZanu PF. Ko hamunyare here nhai nhai? Ini pachangu ndazokunyarirayi zvekuti, because what you are doing zvinonyadzisa zvachose! You need to stop it at once: all of you put together; Mutasa, Gumbo and Margaret Dongo. You all have farms to make use of and produce so that we have food securities in our country; what then do you want in politics at your ages?

Was your expulsion in Zanu PF not embarrassing enough? You continue to embarrass yourselves pamberi pe Zanu kuti igokusekai full time! This is a mess of a situation. Take yourselves out of this nonsense by leaving politics for the younger generation.

Amai Mujuru, please you are no longer relevant in this political discourse: me too. The global politics has changed dramatically, it needs the younger generation of Evan Mawarire’s age; Nelson Chamisa, your own Prosper Gavanga, Thulani Nkala, Mbonisi Gumbo and all those young politicians in our political landscape: all these young people who are in the political limelight can move Zimbabwe to dizzy heights.

Whether we want it or not the only way out of the whole national mess is to give them the space to take this country Zimbabwe to another level. We must concede defeat; we failed, we must acknowledge this failure so that we move on. We cannot be talking about hondo ye Chimurenga in 2017. No Amai Mujuru those days passed and you cannot, never recapture lost glories. You were relevant when you were in Mozambican camps back then, in the government for 34 years but not now. Did you not enjoy power for those big years in the government?

We have Trump as President of USA and not Barack Obama. We have Theresa May as Prime Minister of the UK and not Margaret Thatcher. We have Angela Merkel and not Helmut Kohl, we have Vladimir Putin and not Leonid Brezhnev: we have President Lungu and not President Kenneth Kaunda, we have John Magufuli and not Dr. Julius Mwalimu Nyerere; we have youthful hopeful Comrade Julius Malema and not Nelson Mandela. Where do you fit in with these current politicians Amai Mujuru? You are far from their current thinking and you will never capture the prevailing moods.

What is your relevance in all these global crop of leadership dear Runaida Mujuru? What politics can you tell them and they will listen to you? The answer is none whatsoever! Do not replicate Kaddafi of Libya who clung on to power even if all signs were telling that his time is over. Please do not give anybody a chance to remove you violently like Kaddafi, your military credentials are well worth to respect and preserve them at all cost. Please do not lose them carelessly because of love and lust of political power. You should know by now that you lost it long back you will never get it again by whatever means.

But you worked with Zanu PF for 34 years and you know the devil we are fighting at the present moment. The monster is a monster as you know it. Do not waste time with those little fightings with Mutasa and Rugare Gumbo. Those are not worth even mentioning: the main enemy is Zanu PF. You were part of it and you know how enormous this monster is.

Why are you wasting time, telling all and sundry that Rugare and Mutasa are Zanu PF agents? Who is going to listen to that rubbish nhai amainini Joyi! Mutasa and Rugare can never be Zanu PF agents better than you dear Runaida. If Rugare is an agent of Zanu PF so are you too but double: you are a CIO agent we know this too from many sources. You will never remove yourself from that organisation either than death you know this! You are all baked of the same flour and baking powder with Mutasa and Gumbo. It is a pity you lost it you were kicked out of the party and you never voluntarily left the party. You can never talk a different politics from Zanu PF and we shall at no time listen to you and believe you: never.

Going for elections is a forgone disaster for your party Zim PF. Even after being kicked out of Zanu PF you still believed in Robert Mugabe as your Father and Mentor for a long time. You thought he was going to call you back, it did not happen. Do not tell us cheap politics Runaida, we are very intelligent and too educated a people as you know all graduates from most Zimbabwe Universities have credible degrees and not forged by any means like the First Lady Grace Mugabe: you do not show any signs that you command a doctorate degree either. (This is not my topic today to split and question your academic credentials but your political credentials are questionable indeed).

You said you want to be the bridge of the NTA: but that NTA is to be an administration done by academic experts only and never by politicians. You do not qualify to be in the NTA transition by whatever means. In the transition we need the Strife Masiyiwas, Nkosana Moyos, Professor Rudo Gaidzanwa: such like academic personalities who will be able to execute duties in a professional way: Those ambassadors will not execute political decisions but expert decisions in preparations for the free and fair elections. Dear Runaida, you cannot be part of this group because you are from a political party that rules you off from being part of the NTA group.

Runaida Joice Teurai Ropa Mujuru: your time is up, please go and rest with your grand children.

What you and me should do now is to identify young potential politicians in our societies, we pass on the baton in a dignified manner and tell them to love our country and guard against all evil it may befall a country. Let’s swallow our pride and approach young politicians like Nelson Chamisa, Evan Mawarire, Simba Makoni, Mbonisi Gumbo, Sibangilizwe Nkomo, Thokozile Mkwananzi, Tsitsi Dangarebga, Christopher Mlalazi, Noviolet Bulawayo, Sandra Ndebele, Mbikokayise Mpofu : all those young dynamic hopefuls in our societies to come forward and change our world for the better. If they are short of the qualities we want we shall mentor them and they will deliver better than we did.

Mujuru Says: Tsvangirai Can Trust Me 100%!

I am trustworthy…Joice Mujuru

Zim People First leader Joice Mujuru says MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai can safely put his trust in her that she would never betray him.

She says she would never transform into another Robert Mugabe.

Speaking at a meeting in the wake of her expulsions of top allies Rugare Gumbo, Didymus Mutasa and others in Harare, Mujuru said she is determined to lead in a coalition government and not disappoint.

The ZimPF leader who currently does not have either a constituency or a council seat countrywide, reiterated her statement that she wants to lead in the upcoming envisaged transitional government, “I will to bridge the transition between opposition and ruling parties as a National Transitional Authority leader,” she said.

The former Vice President added saying she promises to resign soon after entering State House.

“I want to rest, as I will be 62 in two months time (this year),” she said.

Mujuru has in the last week implored that it will be difficult for opposition parties to defeat ZANU PF without a coalition of the major opposition parties. She claimed the big opposition parties in the country right now are MDC-T and her ZimPF therefore a coalition with them was necessary.

“Though I and Morgan Tsvangirai are discussing trying to see which areas we differ, we are discussing finding ways to come together.

“Zanu PF thought MDC-T and Zim PF will be enemies, but we are not fighting.

“That is a good thing, a coalition is not something we do in a day or a month but the direction is quote positive,’ she said.

The former vice president confirmed ZimPF believes in a coalition as it gives confidence that Zanu PF can be beaten.

“Before we even talk of numbers, it gives security, and numbers are the last thing. A coalition will bring MDC-T and ZimPF together and all these other democratic parties then we can defeat Zanu PF because it has tricks,” she said.

She added, “I don’t know why people have the big brother mentality; I respect democratic forces; Yes some parties are created by the system as long as you prove you are ready to work with us we are not trying to derail expectations of the people.”

Alarm as 14 Yr Old Girl Rapes Own 6yr Old Brother

The red flag has been raised after a girl (14) from Shurugwi raped her younger brother (6).

The Form 2 pupil (name withheld) from Hurungwe Village in Shurugwi, pleaded guilty to aggravated indecent assault when she appeared before Regional Magistrate Mr Morgan Nemadire.

She was sentenced 2 years’ imprisonment, which was wholly suspended on condition that she does not commit a similar offence.

Prosecuting, Mr Kelvin Guvheya told the court that in September last year, the accused and the complainant slept in the same room but on separate beds.

“The accused person took the complainant to her bed and removed all his clothes.

“The accused told the complainant that they were going to have sexual intercourse after she had removed her own clothes.

“She told the complainant that he should sleep facing upwards and raped him once. After the act the accused person told the complainant to go back and sleep on his bed. The accused person had sexual intercourse with the complainant on several occasions,” said Guvheya.

The court heard that the matter came to light through an anonymous tip-off supplied to a police station. The complainant was medically examined and a medical report was brought to court as exhibit. – state media

Mujuru Hit By More Desertions

…Joice Mujuru

Zim People First party leader Joice Mujuru has been hit by more desertions.

Several officials have in the last 30 hours handed in their resignations following expulsion of seven founding cadres.

In addition to Sylvester Nguni and Ray Kaukonde several youths yesterday held a press conference at the party headquarters in Highlands where they announced their decision to quit. Deputy national youth secretary Mr Prosper Gavanga said Mujuru lacked principles and wisdom.

The desertions began with Mr Sylvester Nguni informing ZimEye.com early yesterday morning and ended with another founder, the businessman, Ray Kaukonde announcing he was also leaving. Below was Kaukonde’s letter written in a shrewd mix of Shona and English:

Horror as 8yr Old Boy Drowns

The state media reports that an eight-year-old pupil at Bambanani Primary School in Inyathi drowned while trying to cross Mbembeswana River with his three friends on their way from school.

Matabeleland North police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Eglon Nkala said when the three pupils crossed the river, they went home and reported that their colleague had drowned.

The incident happened on Tuesday.

“Inyathi villagers went to the river bank and found the boy’s body. We continue to advise the public to accompany pupils to and from school or allow them to skip attending school if they feel it is unsafe,” Asst Insp Nkala said.

A number of pupils have drowned countrywide since the rainy season started, with education authorities saying it was better for children to miss school than cross flooded rivers.

In another drowning case, Asst Insp Nkala said the body of a man who was reported missing in Lupane has been found decomposing along the Mbembesi River bank.

Shelter Nyathi (20) and his brother allegedly visited a village across the river on January 29, and on their way back home at around 6PM they found the river flooded.

Nyathi’s brother managed to cross and went home but the deceased said he was going back to the village where they had visited earlier. However, he did not reach his destination and it is suspected that he later attempted to cross the river and drowned.

“A man’s body was spotted trapped on a tree on the river bank. Villagers managed to retrieve the body before our sub aqua team arrived and no foul is suspected,” said Asst Insp Nkala.

“Nyathi left home on January 29 with his brother and they visited Lupanda Village until 6PM. On their way back home they discovered that Mbembesi River was flooded as it had rained heavily and his brother decided to cross the river.

“Nyathi said he would rather go back to their relatives’ homestead as the river was too full. On the next day his brother discovered that Nyathi did not go back and on February 4, the family filed a missing person report.”

He said on February 6, a girl was looking for mushrooms along the river bank and spotted a body.

She went back to the village and notified her grandfather and other villagers.

“Villagers went to the river and retrieved the body which was in a state of decomposition. Nyathi’s relatives took the body and no foul is suspected,” said Asst Insp Nkala.

On Tuesday, the Civil Protection Unit (CPU) said it was worried that people continue to risk their lives by trying to cross flooded rivers.

Relief For Flood Victims

The Zimbabwean government says it is assisting each of the families whose homes were destroyed by floods with $100.

The Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing Saviour Kasukuwere said Government was also providing food, tents, among other support to the flood victims.

He, however, acknowledged that the assistance may be inadequate in certain circumstances.

During the National Assembly’s question time on Wednesday, Kasukuwere said his ministry had also requested $5 million from the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development to deal with challenges faced by people.

“We have received support from the Air Force of Zimbabwe through rescuing and helping our people trapped or marooned. However, with regards to housing, my ministry through the Civil Protection Unit gives support to the affected families to the tune of about $100,” said Kasukuwere.

“Our budgetary requirements have not been entirely met and hence, we have that challenge. We want to thank the various Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), our sister Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Services, which has been making efforts to support us to try and resettle as well as rescuing those families.”

He said when there is a disaster councillors are urged to inform the District Administrator (DA) who heads the local CPU department.

“From the DA it moves on to the province all the way to the national response institution. I am aware that we have been responding very much to the challenge in Binga. However, like I have said, it is a major challenge that we are facing across the country.”

Meanwhile, the Minister of Environment, Water and Climate Oppah Muchinguri told MPs that Government would only repair destroyed dams when the rains have subsided.

“Unfortunately, because of excess rains which we received this year, some of it to an extent of causing floods in a number of areas, it is not advisable for my ministry to embark on any repairs on any weirs and dams,” said Muchinguri.

“When the river flows become reasonable, we will be able to work with the relevant authorities to make sure that we undertake that responsibility to repair the dams and weirs.”

Drama As Top Cop Is Arrested

The Officer-in-Charge of Mbare Police Station was yesterday trapped and arrested after she allegedly demanded a $60 bribe from a motorist to facilitate the release of his vehicle that had been impounded for a traffic offence.

The senior officer only identified as Chief Inspector Sigauke is still detained at Rhodesville Police Station assisting police with investigations.

Sources close to the investigations said the motorist had his vehicle impounded at a roadblock by police officers and it was taken to the police station.

During the process, the owner is reported to have approached Chief Insp Sigauke for assistance.

Although the details are still sketchy, the officer-in-charge is reported to have demanded a $60 bribe to facilitate for the release of the vehicle.

The owner then alerted some police officers who set a trap.

They went to the police station where Chief Insp Sigauke was handed over the money, leading to her arrest.

It is reported that before she was arrested, she tried to swallow the money, but failed.

She is also alleged to have bitten one of the police officers’ hand in a bid to evade arrest.

Chief Insp Sigauke was taken to Rhodesville Police Station for further investigations.

The incident comes as the force has promised to dismiss any rogue elements tarnishing the image of the police.

Last month, Police Commissioner-General Augustine Chihuri said some of his officers mounting roadblocks were corrupt and a number had been dismissed from the force, but blamed motorists for offering bribes instead of paying fines. – Agencies

Grace Mugabe MP First, Then Minister, Then?

First Lady Grace Mugabe  is reported to be eyeing the Harare South constituency, with many speculating that being MP will be just a first step towards her bigger ambition, succeeding her husband as the next President of Zimbabwe. The controversial First lady has set tongues wagging once again.

Why would Gucci-loving, jet-setting Grace Mugabe want to be a humble MP in Zimbabwe’s parliament?

It’s hard to imagine the imperious Zimbabwean first lady jostling with rowdy opposition Members of Parliament on a daily basis. But that’s the future one local newspaper is suggesting.

Some Zimbabweans have reacted with exasperation to a report in the privately-owned Newsday on Wednesday suggesting Grace Mugabe could be planning to contest a parliamentary seat in Harare in next year’s general elections so that she can get into her husband’s cabinet.

Newsday quoted an unnamed Zanu-PF insider saying that the first lady “had made indications she wants Harare South [constituency] and the current MP has already been advised to look for another constituency”.

“Nobody is going to stop her if [that’s what] she really wants,” a second party official told the paper.

Super-fast PhD

There’s been speculation for two and a half years now that Grace may be eyeing the top seat in Zimbabwe when her 92-year-old (actually, about to turn 93) husband dies or steps down.

Her super-fast acquisition of a PhD in 2014 and her elevation to the post of president of the Zanu-PF women’s league are widely seen to be part of that plan.

One way of gaining an upper hand in Zanu-PF’s bitter internal fights would be for Grace to get herself into parliament, into the cabinet and from there, into a vice presidency.

That’s something her women’s league has been pushing for for some time.

Claims rubbished

One of the first lady’s closest confidantes, Sarah Mahoka has rubbished Newsday’s claims, telling the paper that Grace would never “reduce herself to be an MP.”

That’s a sentiment being echoed on Twitter. “Why would she take the demotion from president to MP?” one Twitter user asked, suggesting Grace’s claim on the presidency was a foregone conclusion. After all, under Zimbabwe’s constitution Mugabe has the power to bring a small number of non-elected officials into his cabinet.

Romanticising popularity

But winning a seat in parliament might give the first lady the veneer of legitimacy she craves, says Harare analyst Pedzisai Ruhanya.

“I think she’d want to put the point home that she is electable; that she is loved by the people. You know this romance between politicians and the ordinary people?” Ruhanya said in an interview. “She’d want to romanticise her popularity.”

After last month’s $1.3m diamond ring scandal, it’s hard to imagine Grace submitting herself to an “MP lifestyle audit” of the kind being advocated in the Herald newspaper this week.

But then she could just do what many of Zimbabwe’s MPs are already doing and never really attend parliament. “Most MPs prefer to do their private businesses when the house would be in session,” the Financial Gazette said on Thursday. – News24

White Farmer Kicks Top CIO Operative Off Farm

A top intelligence officer, Zenzo Ntuliki, has lost his bid to evict a white commercial farmer from a property allocated to him by government in December 2014 as part of the haphazard land reforms.
Ntuliki had in April 2015 succeeded in pushing Timothy Sean White from the property after a magistrate fined him US$300 or 30 days in prison for illegally occupying gazetted land. White was subsequently ordered to vacate Lot 2 of Lot 36 of Essexvale Avalon Farm.

But tables were turned this week after the High Court quashed both his conviction and sentence.
This followed an application by White, challenging the judgment by former Gwanda magistrate, Reuben Mukavhi.

Sitting with Justice Martin Makonese during a criminal appeal, Justice Maxwell Takuva ruled that Mukavhi had misdirected himself in his judgment.

“In my view, it is totally unfair and not in the interest of justice and public policy for a government official charged with administration of particular statutes to give incorrect advice for whatever reason and then unashamedly turn around and recommend and vigorously support prosecution for the innocent recipient of their bad advice. Such conduct should be frowned upon by the courts, for to tolerate it could very well promote abuse of office and corruption by public officials to the detriment of society in general,” ruled Justice Takuva.

Mukavhi, in his ruling, had said White had shown a disregard of the law by continuously occupying the land despite him having been advised by authorities to vacate the farm.
The disputed land measures 142 hectares, of which 30 hectares are mining claims.
The judge said the magistrate failed to appreciate that White’s mining claims gave him a right of occupation entirely distinct from any rights that Ntuliki may have been granted under the land reform programme.

“The net effect of this is that even if the appellant (White) had not been granted any rights of occupation by the Ministry of Lands and Rural Resettlement, the State did not have the lawful authority to deprive him of his mining rights by barring him from the land. Appellant had a right to occupy portion of the land in question and therefore could not be found guilty of occupying its entire extent and consequently, the appeal is hereby upheld, conviction and sentence of the magistrate’s court be and hereby set aside,” ruled Justice Takuva.

In his application through his lawyers, Webb, Low and Barry Legal Practitioners, White sought an order setting aside both his conviction and sentence, arguing that the magistrate misdirected himself by failing to consider representations from officials in the Ministry of Lands and Rural Resettlement that the appellant was lawfully authorised to remain in occupation of Lot 2 of Lot 36 of Essexvale Avalon Farm.
White further argued that the magistrate failed to put into consideration that he had mining claims over a portion of the farm measuring 30 hectares.

“The sentence imposed by the learned magistrate induces a sense of shock. Wherefore the appellant will pray that the appeal be upheld and the conviction and sentence of the magistrate’s court be set aside, and the appellant be found not guilty and acquitted,” said White.
He further argued that he was the rightful owner of the farm, saying he was occupying the farm by virtue of a permit extended to him by the Lands Ministry in 2007 which was confirmed in a letter written to him on May 17 the same year.

White said his permit had not been cancelled, neither had he been issued with a notice to vacate the farm. Allegations against White were that sometime in 2003 a notice was issued in terms of the Land Acquisition Act of the President’s intention to compulsorily acquire Avalon Farm for the purposes of resettlement.
White was allegedly supposed to vacate the piece of land in 2007, but did not comply, leading to his arrest. The farm was allocated to Ntuliki in December 2014 and he was presented with an offer letter.

White and Ntuliki have since 2014 been locked in a series of legal wrangles over the control of the farm with both parties claiming to be the rightful owners of the disputed property.

Mugabe Graveyard Meeting

President Robert Mugabe has set out to hold a meeting for his birthday on top of the sacred graveyard resting place of his victims. In what will become the test of morals against morals, Mugabe has rubbished concerns about his being insensitive by celebrating his birthday party on top of the mass grave area of the Matopo.

The government media reveals that Mugabe has put his signature to the 21st February Movement celebrations that will be held on the 25th of February at Rhodes Preparatory School in Matopo district, Matabeleland South province.

Zanu PF Secretary for Youth Affairs Kudzai Chipanga told journalists at a media conference at the party headquarters that preparations for the big day are at an advanced stage.

Chipanga says the youth league is in final consultations with the relevant ministries to declare President Mugabe’s birthday a public holiday and the renaming of Harare International Airport after Mugabe.

The build up to the big day will see a national fundraising dinner being held on the 17th of February in Harare while national clean-up campaign will be held on the 22nd of February in all 10 provinces.

More than 10 000 youths are expected to attend the historic celebrations to mark President Mugabe’s 93rdbirthday.

The 21st February Movement is in honour of President Robert Mugabe and has a vision to mould Zimbabwean youths to emulate his visionary leadership and nationalist values. – State Media

Soul Jah Love Amputated? | INVESTIGATION

Soul Jah Love at home

Staff Reporter| It never rains but pours for serial-sex-scandal-ridden necromancer Walter Magaya who last year December made a healing claim of the dancehall star, Soul Jah Love.

Unconfirmed reports currently doing the rounds suggest that the chanter has been amputated after a diabetic complication.

The development comes as it was revealed that the singer while in the United Kingdom at Northampton General Hospital was advised for an amputation which medical suggestion he declined.

Kasukuwere and Parirenyatwa Under Fire Over Typhoid

By Staff Reporter | The Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) has hammered the ministers of Health and Child Care and Local Government, David Parirenyatwa and, Saviour Kasukuwere for failing to foresee and counter the outbreak of typhoid that has hit the country.

Over 200 cases of typhoid and three deaths have been recorded in Harare since the outbreak of the epidemic three months ago.

The outbreak of the pandemic was caused by poor hygienic conditions a result of un-repaired burst sewer pipes and uncollected garbage which continue to characterize the once sun shine city.

Stakeholders in the health sector say water borne diseases such as typhoid and cholera, should not continue to occur in a modern society like Zimbabwe and blamed the government for their continued recurrence.

ZLHR, senior official Dzimbabwe Chimbga ,told a stakeholders meeting in Harare this week , that the two ministers and other related government heads of departments ,should be ashamed of the recurrence of “this archaic” epidemic and do the honorable thing.

“The law and the constitution are clear on such issues, they tell you that mitigate and put preventative measures to such outbreaks which should not be seen erupting in this day and age,” he said.

“In a problem of this nature there are a number of actors who are involved and all of them must be held accountable, and because of limited time I have here presenting, I cannot exhaust the list but what we need is to see accountability on the local authority, accountability on the ministry of health, the environmental management agency and the ministry responsible for the allocation of land for housing stands,” said Chimbga.

Chimbga said the Human Rights Commission which was present at the meeting should identify various stakeholders involved in causing the typhoid outbreak and hold them accountable.

“This must be done so that we avoid unwarranted deaths of innocent citizens to diseases which could be prevented,” Chimbga said.

Wicknell Finds Love

The cat is out of the bag! After concerted demands by followers of flamboyant businessman Wicknell Chivayo to reveal the mystery lady who has taken his heart, the mogul on Sunday responded by posting a dazzling picture of the pair on his Facebook fan page.

Chivayo at the beginning of the year sent tongues wagging after posting a picture on his Facebook page of a mysterious woman, face covered, lying on his chest.

The picture captioned: “Sir is chilling at home with the successful candidate…” was posted on New Year’s Eve.

Adding to the anticipation, Chivayo posted another picture of himself with the lady standing at Gandami Secondary School, Chivhu.

Some said this was his rural home and he was introducing his wife-to-be to his relatives.

Now Chivayo’s post of him spotting a beaming smile in a tight cuddle with a light skinned woman disappointed some followers at the new developments in his life.

“She’s beautiful, my crush is gone. I was hoping Sir muchandionawo amana (I thought I was going to be the lucky one) but why? God bless your union,” wrote one Ashleigh Rutendo.

In his usual acidic, humorous style Chivayo shot back: “My Gardener is single, I can link you two guys. Well paid and handsome.”

The comments go on, with many of his followers congratulating Chivayo and wishing him well in his union, while others wanted to know who the lady was and when the wedding will be. – State Media

Tuku Reunites With Daughters

Superstar Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi has posted a picture on social media showing his three daughters Sandra, Sybil and Selmor whom he has of late been accused of denying love.

The Facebook picture was accompanied by a statement “Children are a gift from God. Proud of my beautiful daughters.”

Over the years they have been rumours of a rift between him and his daughters, Selmor and Sandra.

In 2014, Mtukudzi’s former publicist Shepherd Mutamba revealed in the book Tuku Backstage that the Bvuma hit maker did not have a good relationship with his biological children, mainly Sandra and Selmor whom he fathered with first wife Melody Murape.

Tuku’s manager Sam Mataure told the Daily News yesterday that recent developments concerning children is work in progress.

“Tuku is getting along with his daughters as evidenced by the recent Johannesburg concert where he shared the stage with Selmor and the Manatsas.

“It is work in progress, the pending concert featuring the Manatsas here in Zimbabwe at a-yet-to-be announced date and venue is also meant to strengthen the relationship between the two parties,” Mataure said.

Back in the day, Tuku left out Selmor on a number of his high profile events including his birthday bashes that tend to lure thousands of fans.

He went on to reveal on Capital FM Radio (Kenya) that he regrets his first marriage.

“I got married to somebody I didn’t even know and I divorced, so to the youngsters I say never ever get married to anyone who you did not understand, you will always have problems in future. So I regret that,” he said last year while on his visit to the East African nation as a Unicef Goodwill ambassador for Children in southern and eastern Africa.

Last year, Tuku launched his latest album Ehe! Kani Nhai Yahwe adding to his more than 60 albums since he started his artistic journey around 1977.

He has established his influence as an artiste not only in the country but on the entire globe at large. – Daily News

Zimbabweans are Intelligent Like Judas Iscariot: A Case of the Expulsion of Mutasa & Gumbo

Don Chigumba | When Judas Iscariot betrayed Jesus Christ, Christians labeled him a murderer but when Robert Mugabe killed 20,000 innocent Zimbabweans in Matabeleland, Josiah Hungwe claimed that Mugabe is the son of God. Judas Iscariot was intelligent, he became a hero by fulfilling God’s promise. The death of Jesus was according to God’s plan and what Judas Iscariot did was to use his superior intelligence in order to fulfill God’s mission.

The purpose of this article is to support the perspective that Zimbabweans had seen it before that Mutasa and Gumbo were set apart by ZANU PF and CIOs in order to destabilize opposition politics. Zimbabweans were able to used their Judas Iscariot intelligence from the onset and refused to accept Mutasa, Gumbo and the rest of their gangsters.

On Wednesday 8 February 2017, Joyce Mujuru shocked both the dead and the living when she announced the expulsion of Mutasa and Gumbo from ZPF. I have a feeling that even Hitler Hunzvi turned in his grave too. Mujuru accused them of ‘sophisticated infiltration’, a position which was raised by Zimbabweans before the formation of ZPF. Zimbabweans from all corners warned Joyce Mujuru that ZPF was a project  of ZANU PF and CIOs but she failed to hide to their calls.

The political disaster in ZPF is typical of ZANU PF/CIO techniques of destabilizing their political enemies. History tells us that Zimbabwe Unity Movement (ZUM) of the late Tekere was infiltrated by CIOs and collapsed before the election. Chaibva was part of the camp that  destroyed ZUM, after the destruction, Chaibva and company joined MDC in 1999. ZANU PF and CIO were responsible for the disappearance of ZAPU-Nkomo and the formation of ZAPU-Dabengwa

CIOs caused havoc in MDC since its formation in 1999 via infiltration, MDC was destroyed into two pieces popularly known as MDC-T and MDC-Ncube. MDC-T got infiltrated again and was disintegrated to MDC- Tsvangirai, MDC-Biti, MDC-Mangoma and ANC-Madhuku. MDC-Ncube was not spared, it gave birth to another faction called MDC-Mutambara. Look at what is happening to MDC-Biti, Sipepa Nkomo rejoined ZANU PF and I suspect that he could have been part of the evil gang.

When Chaibva observed that he had finished the devil’s task of destroying MDC into several MDCs, he returned to ZANU PF to eat bread there. Chaibva will be remembered for completing his journey around the entire circle. He moved from ZANU PF to ZUM, from ZUM to MDC, from MDC to MDC-Ncube, from MDC-Ncube to ZANU PF and I am convinced that from ZANU PF he will migrate to hell.

ZPF of Joyce Mujuru is the latest victim of ZANU PF and CIOs. From now we have ZPF-Mujuru and ZPF-Kaukonde. This is the work of ZANU PF and CIOs. I have got a strong feeling that Joyce Mujuru is now politically dead and she should consider venturing into farming or forming her own church just like Locadia Tembo Karimatsenga. There is no way Mujuru can become successful without those expelled. When ZPF was formed, Kaukonde was underground, today, he is appearing before ZPF supporters without notice just like a devil.

Bhasikiti was accused of being in the wrong basket before and today he is in another wrong basket, will continue to migrate to several baskets till reaching ZANU PF’s evil forest. Matonga was the first to be expelled by Mujuru on accusations of being a ZANU PF sellout. All these people are playing ZANU PF/CIO   game and they have finally managed to exposed Joyce Mujuru. Temba Mliswa may be also part of the ZANU PF warriors and dream team angering central defense.

Mutasa should be removed from NERA as a leader with immediate effect. He is busy pushing for ZANU PF reforms rather than electoral reforms. Elections are just by the corner but NERA did almost nothing because of their chairperson Hon. Mutasa.

Zimbabweans, I salute you. You refused to accept ZPF because of Mutasa , Gumbo etc. You are extremely intelligent just like Judas Iscariot. The expulsion in Joyce Mujuru camp will force Mujuru into political prostitution. She is now lacking the much needed qualities for one to become a president. Tsvangirai na Joyce vanogona kuchaya mapoto parizvino. Mujuru rave zuru rapinda nyoka.

I used to hate Zimbabweans for giving Pastor Evan Mawarire cold shoulders but their Judas Iscariot intelligence taught me a lesson. I urge them to be vigilant on Pastor Mawarire too.

BREAKING NEWS – Mujuru Hit By 2 More Resignations

Zim People First has been hit by 2 more senior resignations.

Mujuru who yesterday expelled 7 key members of her decision making committee, and was early this morning rejected by Mr. Sylvester Nguni, has now been deserted by two others.

Founding members Cougan Matanhire and Prosper Gavanga have in the last few minutes written to Mrs Mujuru telling her they are with immediate effect walking away. Wrote Gavanga who was the party’s Deputy Youth Chairperson, “…I have lost hope in you for a better Zimbabwe and now considering the future … ”

Matanhire wrote his own letter saying, “After careful self- introspection and soul searching I have decided to tender my resignation from the Party of my own volition.”

Meanwhile, ZimEye is reliably told two separate National Council meetings are slated for this afternoon with Mujuru conducting her own at her private residence in Chisipite. She has however garnered support from 9 out of 10 provinces meaning she will likely win over the attempt to wrestle the party from her hands.

Mugabe Jinx’s Opposition Parties

Rufaro Mufundirwa | True to the prophetic predictions of President Robert Mugabe that very soon there will be Zimbabwe People First (ZimPF) one, two, three and so on, ZimPF one is already in the offing following the sacking of all the key names that were synonymous with that party.

The interim president of ZimPF, Dr Joice Mujuru booted seven big wigs and assured that more heads were going to roll. The dismissed are Rugare Gumbo, Didymus Mutasa, Margret Dongo, Kudakwashe Bhasikiti, Munacho Mutezo, Cloudious Makova and Luckson Kandemiri. Like the MDC-T which always sees the hand of Zanu PF whenever a mishap falls on it, Mujuru is accusing these gentlemen of being agents of Zanu PF which wants “to ensure that Zimbabwe People First fails on its mandate to be the next Government.” Forming the next government is a dream that even Egypt Dzinemunhenzva holds so dearly. It’s not a crime to dream, so Mujuru is encouraged to dream on. However, it becomes a problem when you start accusing everyone for a botched dream. When will our opposition parties become serious and stop the blame game?

The heads that have rolled so far are all key members of ZimPF. It seems Mujuru has emptied the entire ZimPF and everyone is wondering if she has remained with anyone or she is now a one man-band operator. With the new developments in ZimPF, it is now apparent that there will be no more coalition talks but assimilation of Mujuru into MDC-T’s big tent. The recent developments in the ZimPF must have surely come as a sweet song in the ears of Morgan Tsvangirai, for it naturally solve the coalition matrix, especially on who will lead it. Mujuru will bring no one of substance onto the negotiation table, so she has no bargain leverage. She might not even get the vice presidency position.

Some of the dismissed members have vast experiences of being expelled, having been shown the exit several times before. Gumbo and Dongo lead the pack. The best thing for these people is to seek someone who can cast out their spells and go on bended knees to Zanu PF to seek re-admission if they still need to continue with a career in politics.

The seven were fired for causing factionalism in ZimPF, which is exactly the same reason they were fired from Zanu PF. Shiri inemuririre wayo haiuregi (Old habits die hard).  Those expulsions have vindicated Zanu PF which has been accused of unfairly sacking the lot. Instead of seeing the shadow of Zanu PF in the explosion, Mujuru must now realise that Zanu was right for firing these people. On the other hand, Mutasa and allies are also accusing Mujuru of the same charge that caused her dismissal from Zanu PF.

Just like what have been happening in the MDC, the fired gentlemen are likely to form their own party. In fact, there will be a battle for the name ZimPF since Gumbo and Mutasa claim to have fired Mujuru for “failing to lead the party” and they see themselves as founders of the party who incorporated Mujuru at a at a later stage. The Tsvangirai-Welshman Ncube wrangle over party name is going to be replayed in ZimPF. It’s a fiasco in ZimPF as nobody knows for certain as to who fired who. Gumbo and Mutasa also held a press conference to announce the dismissal of Mujuru, a conference which the later viewed as a coup d’état. Her faction’s spokesperson Jealous Mawarire said they called for a press conference as an attempt to counter Mujuru’s after they had got wind that they were going to be fired.

Mawarire said the dismissed gentlemen were accused of stalling and sabotaging party programmes that include preparations for the party’s convention and dialogue on coalition with other opposition parties. Mutasa and Gumbo allegedly didn’t want the party to hold a convention to ensure that the party does not have an elected leadership. The two gentlemen were just appointed office holders and it is said that they were cocksure that they were not electable. Thus, they wanted the status quo to remain in operation.

The two were reportedly against the coalition proposal for fear of being relegated to the periphery in the merger. There are also members of the MDC-T who are opposed to the coalition.  It is said that Tsvangirai is plotting to take a similar action on such members. His deputy, Thokozani Khupe who is vehemently opposed to the coalition, is likely to be the first casualty in the MDC-T. Sources within both the MDC-T and ZimPF said that the decision to fire those who are blocking the coalition initiative was hatched by both Tsvangirai and Mujuru with the later having led the way. Both leaders have been touring provinces on a consultation mission regarding coalition.  The coalition idea reportedly got traction from grassroots of all parties. According to Mawarire, Mujuru did not unilaterally fire the seven but did that at the behest of the provincial structures.

Opposition parties in Zimbabwe seem to be cut from the same cloth. History is repeating itself.  Readers might remember very well how Tsvangirai and Biti parted ways. Biti and his allies had a convention and subsequently called for a presser to expel Tsvangirai. Tsvangirai later on called his presser to expel Biti and allies. This drama has repeated itself in ZimPF today, leaving people wondering if people’s interests are indeed at the nucleus of their formations or it is just a struggle for power.

Mandiwanzira Justifies Mawere Arrest

The arrest of self-proclaimed pastor Evan Mawarire should be applauded because it is in line with the country’s Constitution which emphasises on the rule of law, a Cabinet Minister has said. This came after British ambassador to Zimbabwe Ms Catriona Laing voiced concerns that Mawarire’s arrest was unconstitutional. She also criticised the cyber crime law that is being drafted by Government.

Ms Laing was speaking yesterday when she paid a courtesy call on Information Communication Technology and Courier Services Minister Supa Mandiwanzira.
Mawarire, who made a name for himself internationally by mobilising people to illegally demonstrate against Government under his #This Flag movement, was arrested at the Harare International Airport on the 1st of February.
Addressing journalists in Harare after meeting Ms Laing, Minister Mandiwanzira said that the law in Zimbabwe was not segregatory and if anyone broke the law, justice would take its course.
“I was very clear that it is very important that the world understands that Zimbabwe is very serious about the rule of law,” he said. “It doesn’t matter who you are, whether you are a politician, a traditional leader, a businessman or a church leader, if you break the law it will take its course.
“Therefore, his (Mawarire) arrest must be seen in the context of there being the rule of law in our country, that if you breach your bail conditions you definitely will get arrested.”
Minister Mandiwanzira advised Ms Laing to use her worldly influence in clearing Zimbabwe’s name, which has been dragged into the mud for allegedly infringing on Mawarire’s rights.
He said it was speculation that the draft bill regarding cyber crime had already been finalised and that it violated the public’s right to social media expression. “I have mentioned to the ambassador that the civic society that have come to her really have no reason to be worried because we are taking into account all the concerns by Zimbabweans,” said Minister Mandiwanzira.
“We have not taken this Bill to Parliament yet; people are still free to bring their contributions so that we can incorporate them in the Bill.” Minister Mandiwanzira reiterated that countries coming to Zimbabwe with food aid should also consider investing and putting aside capital for Zimbabweans to start their own businesses, so that they can produce for themselves. – State Media
