No Joy For Mpofu, Chimombe

By A Correspondent

Harare businessmen Moses Mpofu and Mike Chimombe will spend Christmas in jail after their application for referral to the Constitutional Court was dismissed.

The two were arrested in connection with an alleged US$7 million fraud related to a controversial goat contract with the Government.

The pair’s trial has been scheduled for February 10, 2025, meaning they will remain in custody until then.

Their legal team had sought to challenge their detention, but the court refused to grant their application, leaving them without bail.

The contract, which was initially meant to boost livestock farming in the country, has come under scrutiny due to claims of financial mismanagement and fraudulent activities.

Both businessmen have denied the charges, asserting that the contract was legitimate and all procedures were followed.

However, the ongoing investigation and trial process have raised concerns about corruption and transparency in government dealings, particularly in public procurement.

Death Of Mphoko In India A Reflection Of Zanu PF Monumental Failure

By Farai Maguwu

The death of Mphoko in India reminds us of the monumental leadership failure in Zimbabwe.

We are one of the few countries in the world with leaders who seek treatment and die abroad because instead of investing in their health sector they rob their own countries, and spend public resources on cars, power retention schemes, repression and perennial puberty.

As Chivhayo splashes stolen money on cars, hospitals have no drugs, health professionals are demoralized, and hospitals are run down. What does Wicknell produce that earns him so much money?

When Zim rulers get sick they steal money and hire private jets to foreign lands (SA, China & India), having spent few minutes in the VVVVIP lounge at the airport – forgetting that they have 16 million people to whom life and death depend on their decisions.

When shall these people learn that even where they go for treatment they are laughed at as dumb and criminals who steal from their own people to save their own lives and yet they are expected to make decisions that benefit them, their families and their fellow compatriots together?

By the way, they love Dubai &Qatar, don’t they? Haven’t they seen that there is a state-of-the-art hospital in Dubai and Qatar in almost every square mile & the Emiratis and Qataris are now the envy of the whole world – thanks to their leaders? Nations Rise or Fall on LEADERSHIP!

They go to SA, India and China for treatment and yet we have never seen leaders or citizens of those countries coming to Harare for treatment.

Why? Is it an admission we are a nation of jokers & rulers who know very well if they want serious treatment they must look elsewhere?

Green Bombers Invade Civil Service

By A Correspondent

Youth Empowerment, Development, and Vocational Training Minister, Tinoda Machakaire, announced that several graduates from the Youth Service in Zimbabwe have secured positions within the government, following a Cabinet directive that prioritizes them for recruitment into the civil service.

Machakaire made these remarks during the inaugural Youth Service graduation ceremony at Dadaya Youth Training Centre on Thursday. He emphasized the significance of this initiative, stating, “This intake conducted a careers’ day that resulted in some of the trainees being absorbed by various government departments such as the Zimbabwe Republic Police, Zimbabwe National Army, Zvishavane Town Council, Zimpapers, and the Public Service Commission.”

He further clarified that the recruitment aligns with the Cabinet directive, which mandates that “holders of the Youth Service in Zimbabwe certificate be given priority in admission into all State institutions and appointment into the public service and State enterprises.”

In his address, Machakaire stressed the importance of the Youth Service program as a key element of youth development and empowerment in Zimbabwe. “This programme is an important component of youth development and empowerment in Zimbabwe,” he concluded.

Winky D Kicked Out Of HICC By Tagwirei

By Showbiz Reporter | Harare, Zimbabwe (December 6, 2024)—A major controversy is unfolding in Zimbabwe’s entertainment scene following reports that popular dancehall artist Winky D’s annual New Year’s Eve show at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC) may be derailed by a church event linked to influential businessman Kudakwashe Tagwirei. The development has sparked widespread anger, with fans accusing the Rainbow Tourism Group (RTG) of succumbing to political pressure and favoritism.

Winky D—one of Zimbabwe’s most beloved musicians—booked the HICC as early as May 2024 for his December 31 concert. For years, the show has served as a cultural mainstay, attracting thousands of local and international attendees, boosting tourism, and providing crucial income for vendors, hoteliers, and support staff within the entertainment industry.

However, insiders now claim that RTG, which manages the HICC, is set to prioritize a late-booked church event spearheaded by Tagwirei, a controversial figure renowned for his immense wealth, political connections, and checkered reputation. Tagwirei is a prominent member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, where he serves as an elder, though critics say he leverages his financial clout to gain influence. His involvement in the last-minute scheduling at HICC is raising serious questions about whether faith-based events are being used as cover for personal and political agendas.

“RTG’s decision to push out Winky D, who has a signed contract and who booked the venue well in advance, is infuriating,” said a representative from the artist’s management team. “Our preparations are at an advanced stage, and we’ve all invested time, effort, and money to make this event a success. To be pushed aside at the eleventh hour for a less established booking shows a blatant disregard for fair business practice.”

Public sentiment has quickly soured. Online, fans have taken to social media, expressing outrage over what they see as yet another example of corruption and favoritism undermining Zimbabwe’s cultural life. “This is not just an attack on Winky D—it’s an attack on Zimbabwean culture,” wrote one fan on Twitter. “Corruption has reached even our stages.”

Critics argue that Tagwirei—who remains on the United States sanctions list for alleged corruption and human rights abuses—is using the church event as a public relations strategy to rehabilitate his image. Political analysts and industry insiders alike question the motives behind his sudden interest in hosting a spiritual gathering that conveniently displaces a popular, well-attended cultural fixture.

“The timing of this event is suspicious,” said political analyst Tawanda Chikowore. “Given Tagwirei’s controversial dealings, it’s hard not to see this as a calculated move to curry favor and project piety. Meanwhile, he dislodges an artist cherished by millions. This sets a dangerous precedent.”

The standoff at HICC has far-reaching implications. Winky D’s New Year’s Eve show is a boon to the local economy. Canceling or relocating the event at short notice would harm not just the artist, but also the small vendors, technical crews, hospitality workers, and local entrepreneurs who rely on the annual concert for vital income. “If this event is canceled, it’s not just Winky D who loses—it’s the entire ecosystem around it,” said a local promoter who asked not to be named for fear of reprisals.

As pressure mounts, industry leaders, fans, and cultural commentators have called on RTG to honor its initial agreement with Winky D. “We must defend our cultural spaces from powerful individuals who believe they can buy their way into anything,” said one veteran promoter. “If we allow this to happen, we encourage a system where wealth and connections outrank fairness and integrity.”

So far, the Rainbow Tourism Group has remained silent on the matter, but public frustration is boiling over. With the clock ticking down to December 31, the nation waits to see if RTG will restore faith in its commitment to Zimbabwe’s arts sector, or if the HICC will ring in the New Year under a cloud of suspicion and disappointment.

Kikky Badass Falls Hard

By Showbiz Reporter-High Court Judge Sunsley Zisengwe has ordered Hip-hop artist and socialite Christabel Stembeni Mahlungwa, popularly known as Kikky Badass, to pay $18,000 in damages to prominent Masvingo lawyer Rodney Saratoga Makausi.

Judge Zisengwe gave the ruling after Kikky defamed Makausi in a controversial Instagram post in March 2023.

The post, shared with Kikky’s 235,000 followers, accused Makausi of soliciting sex from her.

Makausi, who is also a businessman and devout Seventh-Day Adventist, claimed the allegations caused severe damage to his reputation, both personally and professionally.

Initially demanding $500,000 in damages, Makausi revised the claim to $60,000.

The court ultimately awarded him $18,000 after Kikky failed to file her Pre-Trial Conference (PTC) submissions and missed the PTC hearing on October 1, 2024.

This prompted Makausi to apply for a default judgment.
Makausi testified that Kikky ignored repeated requests to retract the defamatory post, leaving him subject to widespread embarrassment and ridicule. “As a devout Christian, professional man, and officer of the court, my reputation and character are my currency,” Makausi told the court.

He argued that the false allegations caused irreparable harm in Masvingo, a closely-knit community.

Kikky, known for her bold personality and a controversial presence in Zimbabwe’s entertainment scene, had previously requested the case be dismissed, arguing that damages in U.S. dollars were unlawful as the currency is not officially recognized. Justice Zisengwe dismissed her plea.

Kikky’s rise to fame includes roles as a video vixen in music videos and her unapologetic advocacy for body confidence and self-expression.

However, she has also been a polarizing figure, often attracting public scrutiny for her provocative online persona.

Represented by Samuel Banda of Advocate’s Chambers in Harare, Makausi’s victory underscores the legal repercussions of defamatory social media content, especially when it affects individuals’ professional standing and personal lives.

This ruling serves as a cautionary tale about the potential cost of reckless social media posts in Zimbabwe’s increasingly litigious environment.

Top Boxer Caught Pants Down

By Crime and Courts Reporter-Former world boxing champion Charles Manyuchi has been ordered by the High Court in Masvingo to pay US$18,000 in damages to Tapiwa Munyaka, whose wife, Chengeto Viola Munyaka, was impregnated by the boxer during an adulterous affair.

The ruling, issued by Justice Zisengwe, came in the form of a default judgment on Tuesday after Manyuchi failed to respond to legal demands.

This marks the highest award for adultery damages ever granted by the High Court in Masvingo.

The affair came to light in late 2021 when Munyaka, a regional manager at a microfinance bank, discovered explicit messages and images on his wife’s phone.

The images documented her extramarital relationship with Manyuchi, which allegedly began when the couple joined his gym earlier that year.

Court documents reveal that Chengeto was a regular at Manyuchi’s gym, housed at the Flamboyant Regency Hotel in Masvingo, where she trained under the boxer’s supervision.

Ironically, Tapiwa Munyaka had initially supported his wife’s gym activities, even accompanying her to training sessions and allowing her to be featured in promotional materials for Manyuchi’s boxing matches.

Chengeto reportedly became involved in promotional tours for Manyuchi’s fights, including celebratory trips to destinations like Kariba.

However, the relationship between the boxer and Chengeto escalated into a full-blown affair, leading to her pregnancy and subsequent abortion.

Munyaka’s legal team, led by Charles Ndlovu of Ndlovu and Hwacha Legal Practitioners, argued that Manyuchi’s actions severely damaged his client’s self-esteem, reputation, and health.

Munyaka alleged that the boxer’s reckless behavior exposed him to the risk of HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases, as Manyuchi and Chengeto did not use protection.

In his application, Munyaka expressed his devastation, stating:

“The defendant’s reckless conduct exposed me to the HIV virus and other sexually transmitted diseases. The fact that he impregnated my wife is clear evidence that he was not having safe sex with her. The pregnancy exposed me to the danger of raising children sired by third parties. My self-esteem is now low. I am seriously hurt by the defendant’s conduct.”

Munyaka sought US$50,000 in damages, broken down into US$30,000 for loss of consortium (the companionship, affection, and support diminished by the affair) and US$20,000 for contumelia (insulting and humiliating treatment). The court ultimately awarded US$8,000 for consortium and US$10,000 for contumelia.

The seven-year marriage between Munyaka and Chengeto, which began with the payment of lobola in 2015 and was formalized in 2019, has now irreparably broken down.

The couple shares two children.

Munyaka further alleged that Manyuchi had recorded intimate moments with Chengeto and that the affair became widely known, causing humiliation within his social and professional circles.

Despite being served with a letter of demand in November 2022, Manyuchi did not respond or offer an apology, leading to the court case.

Manyuchi, once celebrated as a global boxing icon, is a former champion of multiple titles, including the World Boxing Federation (WBF), Global Boxing Union (GBU), World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver welterweight, and World Alliance Boxing Association (WABA).

This scandal has marked his fall from grace, which has cast a shadow over his illustrious career. Neither Manyuchi nor his representatives have publicly commented on the case or the judgment.

The High Court’s ruling serves as a reminder of the legal and reputational consequences of marital infidelity, even for individuals in the public eye.

Chivayo Donates Cash To Veteran Journalist Geoff Nyarota

By A Correspondent

Controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo has made a generous donation of $15,000 to help veteran journalist Geoff Nyarota with his medical expenses.

Chivayo, a figure often surrounded by controversy due to his business dealings, expressed mixed feelings about journalists.

He has been outspoken against those he accuses of blackmail or malicious reporting but made an exception in Nyarota’s case, choosing to offer support during a time of need.

In a statement on Saturday, Chivayo emphasized the importance of compassion in the face of illness, while also acknowledging Nyarota’s significant contributions to the field of journalism.

Chivayo’s statement in full reads:

“HONESTLY SPEAKING, I have never been, I am not, and will never be a fan of journalists, ESPECIALLY those who thrive on blackmail or MALICIOUS reporting to advance selfish or personal agendas. However, after CAREFUL REFLECTION and consideration, I have decided to make the GREATEST EXCEPTION in the case of Geoff Nyarota.

Despite our differences in opinion and political affiliation, I acknowledge Geoff’s contribution as a VETERAN JOURNALIST with a remarkable career that his peers celebrate.

Please advise his wife to COLLECT the US$15,000 needed to cover his medical expenses from my lawyer, SKHUMBUZO MPOFU, at Munangati and Associates Legal Practitioners.

This is a time for COMPASSION and NOT a time to use Geoff’s DESPERATE health condition as an opportunity to attack the Government or promote divisive opinions!!!!!

It is important to acknowledge the SIGNIFICANT PROGRESS made by the SECOND REPUBLIC in healthcare, such as the installation of OVER 120 dialysis machines and numerous chemotherapy machines in public and referral hospitals.

These efforts are a testament to the strides being made to improve healthcare for ALL Zimbabweans.”

Chivayo’s donation highlights the significance of supporting those in need, regardless of political differences, and underscores the positive developments being made in Zimbabwe’s healthcare system.

Kademaunga Denies Knowledge of Tshabangu’s Appointment

By A Correspondent

Maureen Kademaunga, the Member of Parliament for Sunningdale, has denied any knowledge of her purported appointment as the new opposition leader of the house in Parliament.

“I have no knowledge of this development,” Kademaunga stated.

This response comes amid a growing controversy surrounding Sengezo Tshabangu, the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Secretary-General, who has been making sweeping changes within the party. Tshabangu is targeting senior party members and parliamentary leaders, particularly those aligned with Welshman Ncube, in a bid to restructure the party.

In the latest reshuffle, Kademaunga has replaced Lynette Karenyi-Kore, the former Leader of the House in Parliament.

Karenyi-Kore, who was slated to assume a rotational leadership role as CCC’s president alongside Ncube, has yet to take on that responsibility, leading to speculation about tensions within the party.

Tshabangu’s shake-up also included the replacement of former Chief Whip Edwin Mushoriwa with Charles Moyo, while Sam Chapfudza takes over as Deputy Chief Whip. Several Parliamentary Portfolio Committee chairpersons were also swapped out, with new appointments that reflect Tshabangu’s broader changes in key legislative positions:

Zivai Mhetu replaced Caston Matewu as Chairperson for the Media, Information & Broadcasting Services committee.

Thokozani Khupe replaced Minenhle Ntandoyenkosi Gumede at the helm of the Higher and Tertiary Education Committee.

Senator Maxwell Mdhluri replaced Sithabisiwe Moyo as Chair of the Thematic Committee on Indigenisation.

Additionally, leadership changes were made within the Youth Caucus, with Richard Tsvangirai named Deputy Chairperson and S. Dube assuming the role of Secretary, replacing Takudzwa Ngadziore and Ropafadzo Makumire, respectively.

These moves have triggered unrest within the CCC ranks. Edwin Mushoriwa, in a WhatsApp message to fellow CCC lawmakers, confirmed his resignation as Chief Whip: “

Just to advise that my six-month stint as opposition Chief Whip has come to an end. I received communication from the Clerk of Parliament this morning.”

Factional divisions were also apparent in remarks from party spokesperson Willias Madzimure, who cast doubt on the legitimacy of the reshuffle.

He remarked, “If it was party business led by Welshman Ncube, I would know. If it was from someone else, I wouldn’t.”

Tshabangu’s actions have raised questions about the unity and legitimacy of CCC’s leadership, highlighting the ongoing tensions within the party.

How Emmerson Mnangagwa Stole Mphoko’s Presidential Throne

By Walter Mzembi
Former Tourism Minister of Zimbabwe

Go well VP Mpoko . Many don’t know though that you were the rightful claimant to the Presidency after Mugabe but you chose to let go without a contestation to the throne probably too overwhelmed at the time by events and the euphoria & military support of your nemesis .

I still can’t understand why you were also conveniently absent during the coup creating a vacuum which we struggled to deal with after your co pilot ED had self- exiled to RSA .

I write not in any bad taste but to keep these issues around Nov 2017 as factual as possible as there has been many revisionist versions of those contentious two weeks.

Whilst I appreciate the express pronouncement of your Hero Status by the President am also not blind to your troubled 7 years where you were in Courts in and out , probably dying with that albatross on your neck only to be declared an automatic hero .

Why are we those persons who want to nurse Cdes to their graves & honor them posthumously but are unable to peacefully coexist with them in real life .

Let’s turn a corner and unite our Nation going forward , knowing we all end up as dust sooner rather than later . MHDSRIP + thanks @edmnangagwa & @ZANUPF_Official for honouring your colleague in struggle , notwithstanding.

Tshabangu Fires More CCC MPs

By Political Reporter-The Secretary-General of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), Sengezo Tshabangu, has intensified his controversial shake-up of party structures, targeting senior MPs and parliamentary leaders aligned with Welshman Ncube.

The latest wave of dismissals includes Lynette Karenyi-Kore, Chikanga MP and former Leader of the House in Parliament, who Sunningdale legislator Maureen Kademaunga replaced.

Karenyi-Kore was previously named CCC’s president on a rotational basis with Ncube but has yet to assume the role, fueling speculation about internal party rifts.

Edwin Mushoriwa, the former Chief Whip, was replaced by Charles Moyo, with Sam Chapfudza taking over as Deputy Chief Whip. Tshabangu also removed several Parliamentary Portfolio Committee chairpersons, reshaping key legislative roles:

  • Zivai Mhetu replaced Caston Matewu (Media, Information & Broadcasting Services).
  • Thokozani Khupe assumed the chairpersonship of the Higher and Tertiary Education Committee, replacing Minenhle Ntandoyenkosi Gumede.
  • Senator Maxwell Mdhluri replaced Sithabisiwe Moyo as head of the Thematic Committee on Indigenisation.

Youth Caucus leadership was also overhauled, with Richard Tsvangirai appointed Deputy Chairperson and S. Dube taking over as Secretary, replacing Takudzwa Ngadziore and Ropafadzo Makumire, respectively.

The reshuffle has sparked unrest within CCC ranks. Mushoriwa announced his resignation in a WhatsApp group for CCC legislators, stating:

“Just to advise that my six-month stint as opposition Chief Whip has come to an end. I received communication from the Clerk of Parliament this morning.”

Factional tensions were evident in comments from party spokesperson Willias Madzimure, who downplayed knowledge of the changes, stating:

“If it was party business led by Welshman Ncube, I would know. If it was from someone else, I wouldn’t.”

Kademaunga, reportedly unaware of her appointment:

“I have no knowledge of this development.”

Tshabangu’s sweeping actions highlight deepening fissures within the CCC, as questions linger over the legitimacy and unity of the party’s leadership.

Mthuli Says He’s Taxing Sugar To Raise Money for Cancer Machines

By Farai D Hove | Harare, Zimbabwe – December 6, 2024

Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube has announced that funds raised through the newly imposed sugar tax will be used to procure cancer treatment machines, signaling a major step forward in addressing the country’s healthcare challenges. The Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (PRAZ) has already approved a fast-tracked process to acquire the life-saving equipment, which could be delivered before year-end.

Since the introduction of the sugar tax in the 2024 National Budget, the government has collected over US$18 million. Speaking at a post-Cabinet briefing, Health and Child Care Minister Dr. Douglas Mombeshora confirmed that his ministry had already conducted research to identify the country’s most pressing cancer treatment needs.

“Now that we know we are going to get money from the sugar tax, we have sought advice from radio-oncologists to prioritize the equipment required,” said Dr. Mombeshora. “PRAZ has approved a short bid process to shorten the procurement period, and we aim to complete procurement before December 31.”

Zimbabwe currently has only two cancer treatment centers—at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals in Harare and Mpilo Hospital in Bulawayo. These centers have been plagued by erratic operations due to frequent machine breakdowns. While repairs have been completed at both facilities, the government aims to not only expand capacity at these centers but also establish new cancer treatment facilities in Chinhoyi, Gweru, Masvingo, and Mutare.

New Facilities in the Pipeline

Dr. Mombeshora outlined plans to create fully equipped cancer treatment centers in key provincial hospitals, with the new machines allowing for broader access to cancer care. “The new centers will be fully operational with all the required equipment,” he said.

In addition to cancer treatment, the Ministry of Health has made strides in implementing other healthcare projects under its 100-day cycle program. These include:

Tuberculosis Reference Laboratory: Construction at Mpilo Hospital is 85% complete.

Water Tank at Chitungwiza Central Hospital: Progress is at 55% completion.

X-ray Machine Installations: Completed at Chikurubi Maximum Prison Hospital and Inkomo Barracks Hospital.

Oxygen Plant Rooms: Construction at Lupane Hospital and Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital is expected to finish this month.

Waiting Mothers’ Shelters and Theatres: Renovation materials have been procured for 10 hospitals, including Mt. Darwin, St. Albert’s, and Sanyati.

Sugar Tax Under Scrutiny

While the sugar tax has provided crucial funds for healthcare improvements, it has not been without controversy. Critics argue that it places additional financial pressure on consumers, while supporters emphasize the importance of investing in critical healthcare infrastructure.

For Zimbabweans facing the growing burden of cancer diagnoses, the announcement brings hope of improved access to treatment. The government’s ability to follow through on its promises will likely influence public opinion on the sugar tax and its broader healthcare initiatives.

With the procurement process already underway, Zimbabwe could see new cancer machines operational in 2025, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s healthcare system.

Blood Shortage Hits Zimbabwe Ahead Of Festive Season

By A Correspondent

The National Blood Services Zimbabwe has issued an urgent appeal for blood donations, citing a critical shortage of over 7,500 units needed to meet festive season requirements. The plea comes amidst concerns that blood group O stocks have dwindled significantly.

According to National Blood Services Zimbabwe CEO, Ms. Lucy Marowa, the organization requires at least 7,460 units to meet demand. Despite having collected 88% of their annual requirements, they still need the remaining 12% to cover their needs.

The festive season typically sees an increase in road traffic accidents, which puts additional pressure on the already strained blood supply. In fact, the last two months have witnessed a spike in road traffic accidents, casting a gloomy outlook for the festive season.

To address this shortage, the National Blood Services Zimbabwe has launched the Festive Season Blood Collection Campaign. If you’re eligible to donate, you can visit their donation centers in Harare, including the CBD Static Clinic at Joina City Shopping Mall or the center located at 53 Mazowe Street North, Belgravia .

By Dorrothy Moyo | Former ZIFA vice president Gift Banda, 54, was granted US$500 bail yesterday in a case involving allegations of forging an O-Level certificate. The Western Commonage regional magistrate, Sibongile Msipa-Marondedze, granted Banda bail under the conditions that he does not interfere with witnesses or ongoing investigations and that he resides at his listed address. The case has been adjourned to January 3, 2025.

Despite the seriousness of the charges, Banda appeared cheerful and confident, dressed in designer attire as he entered the courtroom. During the proceedings, the magistrate briefly paused to question why Banda was in leg irons despite voluntarily turning himself in. “Why is he in leg irons? Do you have a key? Remove those,” Msipa-Marondedze instructed prison guards, who complied.

Banda, a prominent businessman known for his collection of luxury supercars and his former role as Bulawayo’s deputy mayor, pleaded not guilty through his lawyer, Everson Chatambudza of Rubaya and Chatambudza.

Chatambudza argued that there were no compelling reasons to deny Banda bail, emphasizing that Banda had acted responsibly upon learning of the police’s interest in the case. “He learned through social media platforms that the police were keen on interviewing him on allegations of forgery. As a responsible citizen, he went to the police and handed himself over,” Chatambudza told the court.

The lawyer also highlighted Banda’s family ties, stating he has nine children, most of whom are under 18, and substantial assets that make absconding unlikely. Chatambudza further suggested that the charge of forgery lacks merit, proposing that the matter might be more appropriately categorized as fraud.

According to the State, Banda allegedly forged an O-Level examination slip in October 2024, claiming to have written examinations in November 1986 under a specific candidate and center number. The results were later confirmed to belong to another individual, Sino Gumbo.

State prosecutor Milton Moyo alleged that Banda contacted the acting headmistress of Mpopoma High School, Sihle Sibanda, claiming he had obtained his results from the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) after losing his original slip. When the school records could not confirm Banda’s results, he allegedly produced a slip he claimed to have found in his personal archives. However, verification reportedly revealed that the document was forged.

Chatambudza questioned the plausibility of the State’s allegations, pointing out inconsistencies and arguing that the lack of an identification number on the slip opens the possibility of mistaken identity. “This story does not hold any water. Why would someone go to their former school to tender a result slip? There could be numerous other people with that same name who could be owners of the document,” he argued.

The case has drawn significant public attention, particularly because Banda has expressed interest in running for a top position in the ZIFA executive committee. His arrest, along with the ongoing investigations into his qualifications, has sparked debate over accountability and the integrity of leadership candidates in Zimbabwe’s sports administration.

Meanwhile, questions have been raised about other high-profile figures, including controversial religious leader Walter Magaya, who is facing similar scrutiny over his claimed O-Level qualifications. Magaya has not been formally charged or arrested but remains under investigation, intensifying public interest in the matter.

As the case unfolds, Banda’s legal team remains optimistic, describing the evidence against him as weak. The court proceedings are set to resume in January, with further revelations expected.

Mother Sentenced for Assaulting Daughter in Chipingue

By Dorrothy Moyo | ZimEye | Chipinge, December 7, 2024 – A 37 year-old woman from Chief Mutema, Chipingue, was sentenced for physically abusing her 17-year-old daughter. The incident, which occurred on December 2, 2024, has sparked discussions on the severity of punishment for domestic violence and child abuse within the community.

According to court documents, the accused, whose identity has been withheld for legal reasons, was found guilty of assaulting her daughter after accusing her of disrespect. The assault involved striking the teenager multiple times with a wooden stick across her legs. In a more severe turn of events, the mother also forcibly shaved her daughter’s hair with a knife, leading to the teenager sustaining a deep cut on her head.

The case was brought to light when the teenager sought medical attention for her injuries, leading to an investigation by local authorities. The court, recognizing the gravity of the offense but also considering mitigating factors such as the family relationship and the accused’s lack of prior criminal record, handed down a wholly suspended sentence of four months. This means the mother will not serve time in prison unless she commits another offense during the suspension period.

Community reactions have been mixed, with some residents calling for harsher penalties to deter such acts of violence, while others argue for rehabilitation and family counseling over punitive measures. Child rights activists have highlighted this case as a stark reminder of the ongoing issues of child abuse and the urgent need for more robust protective services and education on non-violent parenting methods.

This incident not only brings to the forefront the issue of child rights in Chipingue but also raises broader questions about the effectiveness of suspended sentences in cases of domestic abuse. Legal experts are now debating whether such punishments serve as adequate deterrents or if they merely postpone inevitable recidivism in the absence of mandatory counseling and support programs.

As the community grapples with this case, there’s a growing call for increased awareness programs and support systems for families to prevent such occurrences in the future. This case, while isolated in its specifics, mirrors wider national concerns over how best to protect vulnerable individuals from familial violence.

WATCH: Tifanny Burial in Corby

Burial…

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | On December 6, 2024 the Pathfinder and Adventist family, Brooke Weston High School and Corby community bid an emotional farewell to Princess Tiffany. Tiffany Maibongwe Wilson Moyo has been laid to rest amid huge outpouring of grief. The funeral was full of raw emotion with the whole Pathfinders grieving. Tears were flowing without control as the usually quiet town of Corby was united in grief.

The rawness of the emotion that filled the corby sent shivers down the spines of everyone there, especially when the heavy pain was forced down everyone’s spine and a wave of applause swept in from the vast crowds gathered at St Ninians Church with people inside and outside on hearing Thulani Moyo father of Tiffany Moyo deliver his incendiary eulogy filled with agony grief and pain. As he cracked under the pressure of emotions tears flowing down his cheeks Mr Moyo who is an elder in the Seventh Day Adventist Church and a dedicated Pathfinder leader said in between sobs” No father is supposed to go through what I am going through.

The final journey

No Parent is supposed to burry his own child.” Mr Moyo continued and expressed his dream that one day when the trumpet will sound and the dead in Christ will rise. On that day Tiffany will rise and God willing she will give a hug to her daddy and mother and all family members. What a day that will be.”

Supported by his brother Nicholas Moyo and family Thulani struggled to finish his speech but managed to make the whole church shed tears.
Memories of this unforgettable day will remain very vivid in the minds of Corby residents. For me, as for many others, the moment when we heard she had died was the equivalent to a knife being thrust in the chest.

Tiffany’s tragic death was so emotional and nothing hit me like that in my whole life.

Tiffany was a young life blown away so soon. I have never experienced such an emotionally-charged atmosphere as Pastor Maurede consoled the mourners with touching biblical comfort. Pastor Maurede reminded the mourners that God’s Grace cannot be measured by one incident of grief. God can not be judges by a tragic event. The whole life story needs to be understood. Pastor Maurede told a photograph does not tell the whole story. It only tells you a story of that moment. So when hard times come they do not define God. He reminded the mourners that a Day is coming when Christ will come again and the dead will be risen and they will be with Christ dor ever in a place where there is no death where there is no pain and Christ himself will be the light. What a great day?? God will wipe away all tears and even your tears will be wiped away.

Over two thousand mourners attended the burial which was officiated by the Pathfinders of the North England Conference of the Seventh Day Adventist.
Disbelief that she was dead aged only 17 leaving a distraught family and neighbourhood behind, hung in the air as the mourners filed in, many having needed to endure the crowds jamming the streets of Corby.

Television cameras were allowed in filming the process.

From any angle of Corby one could see the grief etched on the faces, of the family members and how the mother and daddy and the Grandfather Mr Nyathi and Mrs Nyathi the maternal grandparents bowed their heads and wept and the agony of Thandi Moyo. And above all, the tears coursing down the faces of the siblings which broke the hearts of all who witnessed them.

The grief of the Moyo and Nyathi families including the former mayor of Corby His Worship Mr Tafadzwa Chikoto made the day truly extraordinarily difficult and painful.
A swirl of emotions – disbelief, incomprehension and then anger – swept the town followed by a mass outpouring of grief.
The testimonies from Brook Weston Principal and staff members set the people weeping in their seats sand the anguished cries that greeted the passage of her funeral procession have passed into books of history, but emotions still swirl around Tiffany.

The sense that her short, ultimately tragic life was made far worse than it should have been by those who were supposed to help her has, if anything, grown more intense. You could still hear one question very loud in the air “But Why?”
Some of this has been fed by absurd conspiracy theories surrounding her death, which stubbornly refuse to accept the prosaic truth of what happened, but one day God will reveal to all of us what really happened.

But beyond the grief and pain, the funeral was a reminder that Tiffany exerted massive influence on those she met.

Memories of Tiffany the world knew all too briefly remain precious beyond words to all.

But then, as we move on, her influence on the way all the people go about their duties is profound and may be Tiffany’s most lasting legacy for a life shortly lived.

Tiffany’s lasting impact would be on those who had encountered her in her short life. Tiffany’s impact on people turns out to be a force for good, which makes her loss all the more tragic.

UK Blocks Zimbabwe’s Commonwealth Return

The United Kingdom has made it clear that Zimbabwe must make significant improvements in its governance and human rights practices before being allowed to rejoin the Commonwealth. In essence, the UK has blocked Zimbabwe’s return to the organization from which it was suspended in 2002.

While the Commonwealth Secretariat had recommended Zimbabwe’s re-admission after consulting member countries and allowing them until November 26 to voice their opinions, any decision on rejoining requires unanimous approval from all members. The UK, however, has firmly stated that the time is not yet right for Zimbabwe’s reintegration.

In a written response to a question posed by Baroness Kate Hoey in the House of Lords, the UK’s Foreign Office emphasized:

“The UK has always been clear that we would like to see Zimbabwe return to the Commonwealth when the time is right.”

However, the response continued: “At present, we do not share the Secretariat’s assessment of Zimbabwe’s progress or its readiness in accordance with the shared values and principles outlined in the Commonwealth Charter.”

Although acknowledging some progress, the Foreign Office stated, “We believe further steps are needed on democracy, governance, and human rights before Zimbabwe formally applies to rejoin the Commonwealth.”

Mphoko Declared National Hero

By A Correspondent

Former Vice President of Zimbabwe, Ambassador Phelekezela Mphoko, has passed away following a prolonged illness.

In a statement, President Emmerson Mnangagwa expressed his condolences, announcing the sad news of Mphoko’s death. He described Mphoko as a dedicated veteran of the liberation struggle, one of its early pioneers, and a courageous fighter who contributed significantly to Zimbabwe’s independence.

President Mnangagwa highlighted that the nation has lost a key figure in the liberation movement, whose role in securing national independence remains invaluable. He also noted that Mphoko’s exposure to diplomacy during the struggle laid the foundation for his distinguished diplomatic career post-independence, which included serving as Zimbabwe’s ambassador to various countries, including the Russian Federation.

The President emphasized that Mphoko’s appointment as Vice President was a well-deserved recognition of his lifelong dedication and sacrifices for the people of Zimbabwe.

After his tenure in government, President Mnangagwa acknowledged that Mphoko continued to support the ruling ZANU PF party, notably offering his unwavering backing during the 2023 General Elections.

In recognition of his exceptional service to the nation both before and after independence, the ZANU PF Politburo has unanimously declared Mphoko a National Hero.

Further details on burial arrangements will be shared in due course.

The Legitimate President Of Zimbabwe Has Died

BREAKING NEWS: Former Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko Passes Away at 84

By Farai D Hove | ZimEye | Harare, Zimbabwe – Phelekezela Mphoko, the former Vice President of Zimbabwe who held a legitimate claim to the presidency following the late Robert Mugabe’s resignation, has died at the age of 84. His death was confirmed by presidential spokesperson George Charamba.

Mnangagwa and Mphoko

Mphoko served as Zimbabwe’s Vice President from 2014 until 2017. Following President Mugabe’s resignation in November 2017, constitutional procedures would have placed Mphoko, as the only remaining legitimate vice president at that time, in line to assume the presidency. However, these arrangements were never honored. Instead, Emmerson Mnangagwa, an expelled ZANU-PF politician who returned from South Africa, ascended to the presidency, assisted by elements within the Zimbabwean military led by General Constantino Chiwenga.

Critics and observers maintain that this sequence of events was an irregular transition of power, effectively sidelining Mphoko. The military intervention and the subsequent political maneuvers prevented the former vice president from taking over as head of state, despite what his supporters consider a lawful succession path.

Mphoko is survived by his wife and three children. His passing marks the end of a chapter in Zimbabwean politics still shrouded in questions about constitutional order, the role of the military in governance, and the legitimacy of the country’s leadership transition following Mugabe’s historic resignation.

Chiwenga Thrown Under The Bus

By Political Reporter- President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s allies are intensifying efforts to secure his presidency beyond 2028, further sidelining his deputy, Constantino Chiwenga, in the race for succession.

Reports indicate growing support within ZANU PF structures to extend Mnangagwa’s tenure beyond the constitutional two-term limit.

While Mnangagwa has publicly stated his intention to step down after 2028, key party affiliates have openly endorsed a push for constitutional amendments to enable his presidency until 2030.

Last weekend, ZANU PF provincial chairpersons from across the country convened at Mnangagwa’s Precabe farm in Kwekwe, reaffirming their backing for the 2030 extension resolution.

ZANU PF spokesperson Chris Mutsvangwa hailed Mnangagwa’s leadership, calling him a “rare calibre statesman.” He stated:
“The party membership works for, prays, and hopes for resonance with the electorate. Party organs are mobilising to parry aside any distractions. They are keen to see much more of the development dividend.”

This sentiment was echoed by Harare provincial chairperson Goodwills Masimirembwa, who expressed unwavering loyalty to Mnangagwa, emphasising the need for legal instruments to extend his tenure.

ZANU PF’s elective congress in 2027 will be a pivotal moment for the party, as factions continue to position themselves ahead of the harmonised elections in 2028.

Despite constitutional hurdles, the push for Mnangagwa’s extended presidency signals deepening cracks within ZANU PF’s leadership, leaving Chiwenga’s aspirations hanging in the balance.

Bushiri Pastor In Adultery Storm

By Religion Reporter- A pastor with Prophet Shepherd Bushiri, founder of the Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) church, has been accused of sleeping with the wife of a fellow church member.

A Plumtree, Matabeleland South Province, man made an impassioned plea to Bushiri to take action against his wife and her alleged lover, Alfos Bukosibethu Nyathi.

The man, who prefers to be identified only by his surname, Chiwawa, alleges that Kagande, a senior church leader, has been engaged in an extramarital affair with his wife since 2022, causing irreparable harm to their marriage.

He said he had been living with his wife since 2010 and formally married her in 2022.

Chiwawa claims the affair began shortly after their wedding in 2022.

He discovered the infidelity while preparing immigration documents for Kagande to join him in the UK.

Despite her confession to their church pastor, who is only identified as Samuriwo and is based in Plumtree, Chiwawa says the church took no action, leaving him feeling betrayed and unsupported.

Chiwawa alleges that Kagande and Nyathi engaged in unprotected sexual relations frequently while he was away for work.

Call for Awakening: Hope in the Face of Oppression

By Renee Langa | “Usarega kunyengetera ndidzoke kumba.”

“Jongwe zvorokukuridza mudiwa muka. Ndoringe nzira ndoyambukira mhiri kwehova, tarira ndokunoenda vamwe, ndokunoenda vamwe. Hongu, kure kwegava usipo mutsvubvu. Usarega kunyengetera ndidzoke kumba.”

Renee Langa

The song “Ndinouya” by Gwevedzi, in my view, resonates deeply with the experiences of Zimbabweans enduring the oppressive realities of life under the leadership of Emmerson Mnangagwa and the ZANU-PF regime. The crow of the rooster, traditionally symbolizing the start of a new day, here becomes a call for awakening and hope amid hardship. The poignant line “Ndoringe nzira, ndoyambukira mhiri kwehova” evokes a deep longing and an unrelenting search for freedom—an echo of the struggles of those in detention, in exile, or simply striving for better prospects in their homeland.

These evocative lyrics encapsulate the emotional turmoil felt by many forced to flee Zimbabwe due to political instability, economic collapse, and systemic human rights abuses. They reflect the painful reality of activists and families awaiting justice and restoration in a fractured nation.

Under Mnangagwa’s leadership, the hope for progress that briefly followed Robert Mugabe’s rule has largely faded. The 2018 elections were marred by allegations of rigging and violence against opposition supporters, signaling a continuation of oppressive governance. In the years since, political repression has worsened, with arbitrary arrests, detentions without trial, and abductions of activists becoming distressingly common. The disappearance of Itai Dzamara in 2015 remains a harrowing reminder of the regime’s disregard for dissent and human rights.

Particularly alarming is the plight of the detained. As of June 2024, 78 members of the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) remain imprisoned without bail, accused of participating in an “illegal gathering.” Their continued detention illustrates the state’s use of the judiciary as a tool of repression. Amnesty International, ROHR Zimbabwe, and other human rights organizations have condemned these abuses and urged immediate investigations into reports of torture, as well as the release of these political prisoners.

For those driven into exile, the song’s imagery of gazing across distant horizons symbolizes enduring hope for the day they might return to a free and just Zimbabwe. Their struggle is shared by those still within the country, living under a government that continues to prioritize power at the expense of its citizens’ welfare. Under Mnangagwa’s regime, economic instability has deepened, corruption has worsened, and poverty has become more widespread, forcing millions to leave in search of safety and opportunity.

In this climate, the rooster’s crow takes on new meaning—not just as a call to rise, but as a reminder that true change often emerges in the darkest hour before dawn. It becomes a symbol of resilience and the collective yearning for justice, accountability, and renewal.

Zimbabwe’s future hinges on both external advocacy and the courage of its citizens to demand reform. As Christians, we are called to pray fervently for the nation’s freedom and restoration. This includes praying for the detained, the displaced, and the persecuted, trusting that God’s justice will prevail. Yet, prayer must be coupled with action—raising awareness, lobbying international bodies, and holding leaders accountable for their actions.

As the rooster crows each morning, it serves as a reminder of God’s promise to bring light into darkness. For Zimbabweans at home and abroad, this is a time to press on, to speak out against oppression, and to hold fast to the hope that one day the chains of injustice will be broken and freedom will reign in the land.

UK Humiliates Mnangagwa Over Commonwealth Return

By A Correspondent

Chivhayo Dishes-Out 10 High Profile Cars In One Week

By Showbiz Reporter- Controversial businessman and convicted fraudster Wicknell Chivayo has set social media abuzz by gifting 10 high-profile personalities luxury cars within a single week.

Recipients of the extravagant gesture include gospel icons Leonard Zhakata and the Charambas, music legend Mechanic Manyeruke, soccer great Moses Chunga, renowned lawyer Wilson Manase, and talk-show host Rebecca Chisamba, popularly known as Mai Chisamba.
The cars, ranging from 2024 Toyota Fortuner 4×4 models to the latest Mercedes-Benz vehicles, were showcased on Chivayo’s X (formerly Twitter) account.

Known for his flamboyant lifestyle and philanthropy, Chivhayo has a long history of using grand gestures to stay in the public eye.

From splurging on luxury items to funding public projects, he has cultivated a persona that blends generosity with drama.

However, his name is equally synonymous with controversy.

He has faced allegations of corruption, including a high-profile legal battle over the failed $200 million Gwanda solar project, which raised questions about accountability in public tenders.

Despite his frequent brushes with the law, Chivayo has maintained his lavish lifestyle, often flaunting his wealth online to mixed reactions.

The recent car giveaways have reignited debates about his motivations, with critics questioning whether they are altruistic acts or calculated moves to deflect from past controversies.

Passion Java Threatens Chivayo With ‘Beltazar Visit If He Doesn’t Give Winky D A Car’

Harare, Zimbabwe – Controversial ZANU PF-aligned socialite and preacher Passion Java has sparked intrigue after issuing what appears to be a joking “threat” directed at businessman Wicknell Chivayo. Java suggested that if Chivayo does not provide Zimbabwean musician Winky D with a car within 24 hours, he might face scrutiny from Equatorial Guinea’s Director General of the National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF), Baltasar Engonga.

The statement, posted on Java’s social media platforms, included an image of Engonga, with Java playfully stating: “If Sir Wicknell doesn’t give Winky D a car in 24 hours, this man is visiting Zimbabwe.” The post quickly gained traction, eliciting laughter and curiosity from fans and critics alike.

A Joke or a Warning?

While the statement was laced with humor, it has left many questioning whether there is a hidden message behind Java’s words. Known for his controversial and cryptic public remarks, Passion Java’s intent remains unclear. Some commentators speculate that the reference to Baltasar Engonga—a figure associated with financial investigations—may have been a playful jab at Chivayo’s previous legal troubles, including past cases involving allegations of financial irregularities.

Efforts to reach Passion Java for clarification were unsuccessful as of publication. Wicknell Chivayo has not publicly responded to the comments.

The post has ignited a storm of reactions on social media, with users debating whether Java’s remarks are harmless banter or veiled criticism. Many fans of Winky D expressed hope that the popular musician might actually receive a car, while others saw the post as a humorous commentary on power dynamics among Zimbabwe’s elite.

“Java is always the king of mischief. But hey, if this gets Winky D a car, we’re all for it!” one user Tineyi Hcommented.

Others, however, took a more critical stance. “This kind of public discourse is unnecessary. Java should focus on meaningful contributions to society instead of stirring controversy,” another user remarked.

Context and Background

This is not the first time Passion Java has caused a stir with his comments. As a self-styled prophet and flamboyant personality, Java is known for his polarizing antics, which often include extravagant displays of wealth and public feuds. Similarly, Wicknell Chivayo, a prominent businessman and ZANU PF supporter, has been at the center of numerous controversies, including past allegations of mismanaging funds tied to government contracts.

As for Winky D, the celebrated artist has often been a source of contention in Zimbabwe’s political and social spheres due to his music’s socially conscious themes. The mention of providing him with a car could be Java’s way of either trolling or showing public support for the musician.

What’s Next?

Whether Passion Java’s remarks are mere jest or a calculated move remains to be seen. For now, social media users and Zimbabwe’s entertainment community are eagerly watching to see how Wicknell Chivayo responds—if at all. Meanwhile, fans of Winky D are hoping the spotlight on the star will translate into more support for his artistry.

Mai Titi Threatens Violence Against Young Socialite, Ritz

By Dorrothy Moyo | Harare, Zimbabwe – In a startling escalation of public disputes, Felistas Murata, popularly known as Mai Titi, has openly threatened to assault rising socialite Ritz during a lengthy and heated rant. The entertainer, who has faced controversy over similar confrontations in the past, reiterated her intent in no uncertain terms, fueling concern among fans and critics alike.

Mai Titi’s outburst centered on allegations that Ritz has repeatedly insulted her, delving into her criminal record and personal life. In her tirade, Mai Titi vowed to physically confront Ritz, stating, “One day while you are getting interviewed, I will meet you at the doors, and then I will assault you.”

The self-proclaimed comedian also took aim at Ritz’s financial status and social behavior, accusing her of being “cheeky” and overly critical. “You don’t even have a bicycle… every day you keep mentioning my name. Am I the one who impregnated you?” Mai Titi exclaimed.

A History of Volatile Behavior

This latest threat adds to Mai Titi’s well-documented history of public altercations. Known for her fiery personality and unfiltered remarks, she has often found herself at the center of controversy. Critics have called for accountability, citing concerns about her influence on young fans and the growing culture of public feuds among social figures.

Public Reactions

The public reaction has been polarized, with some supporting Mai Titi’s grievances while others condemned her threats. Social media platforms are ablaze with comments, many calling for peace between the two women.

“It’s disheartening to see public figures resorting to threats of violence,” one commenter noted. “This is not the example we want to set for the next generation.”

Others sided with Mai Titi, claiming Ritz’s alleged behavior warranted a response. “Ritz has been poking the bear for too long,” another user wrote. “She needs to learn there are consequences.”

What’s Next?

As tensions escalate, many are calling on both parties to seek mediation and avoid further public spats. It remains to be seen whether Mai Titi will follow through on her threats or if this will mark the beginning of a legal or social resolution.

For now, the entertainment scene in Zimbabwe is bracing for the fallout from yet another dramatic chapter involving one of its most polarizing figures.

Walter Magaya Targeted As Banda’s Arrested Over Fake O Level Certificates

By Dorrothy Moyo | Spotlight on Walter Magaya as Gift Banda Arrested Over Forged O-Level Certificate

Harare, Zimbabwe – December 6, 2024

Prominent religious leader Walter Magaya has come under scrutiny over his O-Level qualifications following the arrest of aspiring ZIFA vice president Gift Banda on allegations of forging an Ordinary Level certificate. The developments have raised questions about the integrity of credentials presented by high-profile individuals in Zimbabwe.

Gift Banda, 54, a former Bulawayo councillor and deputy mayor, spent the night at Western Commonage Police Station after being arrested on allegations of forging an O-Level certificate. Banda, a successful businessman known for his love of luxury cars, had intended to file nomination papers for the ZIFA elections slated for early next year. However, candidates for ZIFA positions are required to demonstrate that they hold at least five O-Level passes, a requirement Banda allegedly could not meet.

Police spokesman Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed Banda’s arrest and stated that the certificate in question falsely claimed Banda passed O-Level exams administered by the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) in 1986 at Mpopoma High School. This claim was quickly debunked, as Zimsec was only established in 1996, and schools during Banda’s alleged exam period exclusively offered Cambridge examinations.

Also implicated in the scandal is Anele Zikhali of Bulawayo, who is accused of producing the forged certificate. Commissioner Nyathi assured the public that further details on the case would be released in due course.

Meanwhile, attention has shifted to Walter Magaya, the founder of the Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries. Allegations have surfaced that Magaya, whose real name is Anyway Zuze, does not possess the five O-Level passes his church and supporters claim. Reports suggest that Magaya struggled academically and failed his O-Level examinations, raising doubts about the authenticity of his qualifications.

While Magaya has not yet been charged or arrested, the revelations have cast a shadow over his public image. Critics argue that the narrative surrounding Magaya’s qualifications does not align with his known educational background.

These developments come as Zimbabwe grapples with increasing concerns about fraudulent qualifications among public figures and aspiring leaders. The arrests of Banda and Zikhali and the scrutiny on Magaya are seen as part of a broader push for accountability and transparency, especially in leadership positions.

Banda’s arrest could jeopardize his bid for the ZIFA vice presidency, while Magaya’s situation has fueled further debate about integrity in religious and public spheres. The investigations into both figures are ongoing, and updates are expected in the coming days.

Edgar Lungu In Fresh Corruption Scandal

Zambia – Former President Edgar Lungu is embroiled in fresh corruption charges, accused of abusing his office.

Lungu is said to had pressured the Zambia Army Commander, Lieutenant General Paul Mihova, to release a land title for a secretariat for the then-ruling Patriotic Front (PF) party.

Boston Nzhibwe, a police chief inspector, testified that Lungu summoned Mihova to State House after Commissioner of Lands Wilfred Muma reported the army chief’s refusal to hand over the certificate of title.

“Soon after the rejection, [General Mihova] was called to State House by the President,” Nzhibwe stated.
The controversial plot of land has become the centerpiece of a case that underscores broader allegations of corruption during Lungu’s tenure.

Muma, who was removed as a High Court judge in July, is also facing charges of abuse of authority and willful failure to comply with legal procedures in connection with the case.

Lungu’s presidency, from 2015 to 2021, was marked by allegations of corruption, economic mismanagement, and an erosion of democratic norms.

Despite his initial rise as a unifying figure, Lungu’s administration became increasingly authoritarian, stifling dissent and clamping down on opposition.

His 2021 defeat to Hakainde Hichilema in a historic election was fueled by widespread frustration over rampant corruption and economic hardships, including mounting national debt and a depreciating currency.

Lungu’s controversial handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and accusations of using state resources to bolster his re-election bid further alienated Zambians.

Since leaving office, Lungu has faced multiple investigations, with authorities targeting his inner circle and allies for alleged graft.

The latest charges suggest that the former president’s legal troubles are far from over, and his legacy continues to be overshadowed by claims of corruption and abuse of power.

Mnangagwa Top Aide In Maintenance Scandal

By Crime and Courts Reporter-Former Deputy Information Minister and Zanu PF legislator for Bikita West, Energy Mutodi, has landed in hot water after being dragged to the Masvingo Magistrates Court for allegedly defaulting on child maintenance payments.

Mutodi’s ex-wife, Polite Dhiyo, filed a lawsuit seeking $1,500 per month for the upkeep of their six-month-old child, claiming that despite Mutodi’s lucrative income, he has not contributed a cent since their separation.

Dhiyo alleges that Mutodi, who earns an estimated $15,000 monthly from his businesses, legal practice, and parliamentary salary, abandoned his financial responsibilities after their customary marriage ended earlier this year.

“I was married in 2023 to the respondent under customary law. The respondent paid part of the lobola to my parents. However, we later separated. During the customary law union, we had one minor child, who is now six months old. At the time of our separation, the respondent undertook to provide financial support for the child. However, since the separation, the respondent has not paid a single cent,” Dhiyo’s court papers read.

Dhiyo claims she has been solely responsible for providing the child with shelter, food, clothing, and medical care.

Mutodi, rose to political prominence under the wing of President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Once considered one of Mnangagwa’s most loyal allies, Mutodi’s tenure as Deputy Minister of Information was marred by controversy, including public spats with other senior Zanu PF officials and allegations of corruption.

Despite his loyalty to Mnangagwa during the 2017 coup that ousted Robert Mugabe, Mutodi’s erratic behavior and frequent outbursts on social media reportedly strained his relationship with the President.

Analysts suggest that Mutodi’s dismissal from the deputy ministerial position in 2020 signaled Mnangagwa’s frustration with his unpredictable ally.

Even after his removal from the Cabinet, Mutodi retained influence within Zanu PF structures, leveraging his legal expertise and business connections.

However, this latest scandal could tarnish his reputation further and cast a shadow on his future political ambitions.

Sir Nils Olav, the Penguin Knight and Military Icon, Captivates the World

Edinburgh, Scotland – December 6, 2024

By Farai D Hove | In a story that blends charm, tradition, and history, Sir Nils Olav, a king penguin residing at the Edinburgh Zoo, continues to capture global attention as an honorary member of the Norwegian military. Known as the “Army Penguin,” Sir Nils Olav is no ordinary bird; he holds the distinguished rank of Brigadier and has been knighted by King Harald V of Norway.

The tradition began in 1972, when the Norwegian King’s Guard adopted a penguin from Edinburgh Zoo as their official mascot during a visit to Scotland. Nils Olav was named in honor of Major Nils Egelien, who initiated the idea, and King Olav V of Norway. Over the decades, Nils Olav and his successors have risen through the ranks, with each new penguin inheriting the title.

In 2008, Sir Nils Olav achieved a historic milestone when King Harald V of Norway officially knighted him in a grand ceremony, marking him as the first penguin to receive such an honor. The spectacle was witnessed by members of the Norwegian military and zoo staff, solidifying Sir Nils Olav’s place in both Norwegian and Scottish lore.

By 2016, Sir Nils Olav was promoted to Brigadier in another ceremonial event that showcased his enduring role as a symbol of unity and goodwill between the nations. During these promotions, Sir Nils Olav inspects the Norwegian King’s Guard, marching past the soldiers with dignity and poise that belie his waddling gait.

His most recent accolade was a Guinness World Record for holding the highest rank ever achieved by a penguin, a title that has delighted audiences worldwide and further solidified his legacy as an international icon.

Sir Nils Olav’s story is more than a quirky tradition; it is a testament to the bonds forged through diplomacy and shared values. As a symbol of honor and camaraderie, the penguin knight remains an enduring figure in military and zoological history.

For now, Sir Nils Olav enjoys his duties as Brigadier, greeting admirers at the zoo and inspiring countless visitors with his remarkable journey from penguin colony to military legend.

Mbappé’s Struggles in Front of Goal Continue

By A Correspondent

Kylian Mbappé has taken full responsibility for his disappointing performances since joining Real Madrid, following another shock defeat for the club.

The 25-year-old’s frustrations were evident after he missed yet another penalty, just one week after his earlier miss in Madrid’s dismal 2-0 loss to Liverpool in the Champions League.

This time, Mbappé’s penalty was easily saved by Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Julen Agirrezabala, with the spot-kick coming when Madrid were already trailing by a goal. To make matters worse, Mbappé also squandered a clear goal-scoring opportunity when Jude Bellingham squared the ball to him, only for the Frenchman’s weak shot to be comfortably collected by the keeper.

The reigning LaLiga and Champions League champions slipped further behind in the title race with a 2-1 defeat to Athletic Bilbao, and Mbappé’s inability to convert chances was again a major issue.

In his 90-minute appearance, Mbappé was again deployed on the left wing by Carlo Ancelotti in place of the injured Vinícius Júnior. However, unlike his Brazilian counterpart, Mbappé struggled to make an impact and was kept in check by the Bilbao defense.

Job Vacancy City Council Finance Director- Harare

Job Opportunity at Harare City Council – Finance Director Wanted!

Job Title: Finance Director

Employer: Harare City Council

Location: Harare, Zimbabwe

Application Deadline: Closed (43 applicants already vying for the role)

Are you ready to lead the financial operations of Zimbabwe’s capital city? Harare City Council is in the final stages of selecting a new Finance Director, a critical position that has been filled on an acting basis since 2015. With 43 candidates already in contention, this job opening has become one of the most sought-after positions in the public service sector.

About the Role

As Finance Director, you will take charge of the council’s finances, oversee budgeting, drive financial planning, and ensure the efficient allocation of resources to meet the needs of Harare’s residents. This role requires leadership, integrity, and the ability to navigate a challenging financial and political landscape.

The role has been vacant since 2015, following the suspension of the last substantive director, Mr. Stanley Kwenda, who exited after a prolonged legal battle last year. The position has since been held on an acting basis by Mr. Godfrey Kusangaya, whose contract was recently extended despite allegations of bribery surrounding the renewal process.

However, Mr. Kusangaya has confirmed he is not applying for the permanent position, leaving the race wide open for fresh leadership.

Who Should Apply?

While the application process is now closed, the 43 candidates under consideration represent a range of financial expertise. Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume has expressed gratitude for the overwhelming interest in this critical role. “We are humbled by the response,” he said at a council meeting yesterday.

The successful applicant will need to demonstrate:

Proven experience in financial management and strategic planning.

Integrity and transparency in managing public funds.

The ability to work collaboratively with councillors, stakeholders, and residents.

Visionary leadership to restore confidence in the city’s financial systems.

The Selection Process

The Local Government Board will oversee the next steps, including shortlisting candidates and conducting interviews. The process promises to be rigorous, given the responsibility attached to the role and the controversies that have surrounded it in recent years.

Challenges Ahead

The new Finance Director will face significant hurdles, including rebuilding public trust, streamlining expenditure, and addressing the city’s financial mismanagement. Harare’s residents expect accountability and efficiency, and the council needs strong leadership to meet these demands.

Public Perception

This hiring process has not been without speculation. Allegations of corruption tied to the acting director, Mr. Kusangaya, have raised questions, though Mayor Mafume defended him, stating: “He will be a very generous man to bribe people for a position he did not even apply for.”

What’s Next?

Harare City Council is expected to announce the shortlisted candidates soon, and residents are eagerly awaiting the appointment of a permanent Finance Director who can bring stability and transparency to the city’s finances.

The Harare City Council’s search for a new Finance Director has sparked significant interest and controversy, with 43 candidates vying for the position that has been vacant for nearly a decade. The role, considered pivotal for the city’s financial stability, has been occupied on an acting basis since 2015, most recently by Mr. Godfrey Kusangaya, whose tenure has not been without controversy.

At a full council meeting held yesterday, Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume expressed surprise at the high number of applicants for the position. “Forty-three people have applied for the Finance Director position; we are humbled by the response,” he said. The overwhelming interest highlights the significance of the role, which involves managing the finances of Zimbabwe’s capital city during challenging economic times.

A Role Mired in Controversy

The position has been vacant since the suspension of the last substantive director, Mr. Stanley Kwenda, in 2015. Mr. Kwenda spent years in legal disputes with the council before negotiating his exit package in 2023. Since then, the role has been filled on an acting basis, most recently by Mr. Godfrey Kusangaya, whose contract was renewed earlier this year. However, allegations of bribery linked to his contract renewal have cast a shadow over the process.

Mayor Mafume dismissed the allegations against Kusangaya, stating: “He will be a very generous man to bribe people for a position he did not apply for.” Kusangaya has reportedly expressed no interest in taking on the role permanently, leaving the selection process wide open for fresh leadership.

The Selection Process

The Local Government Board is now tasked with shortlisting the 43 candidates and overseeing the interview process. The council has promised a rigorous and transparent selection process to identify a candidate capable of managing the city’s complex financial landscape.

The Finance Director’s role will involve addressing significant challenges, including Harare’s strained budget, allegations of mismanagement, and public mistrust of the council’s financial decisions. Residents and stakeholders are eager to see whether the council can deliver a competent and accountable leader for the position.

Public Skepticism and Expectations

The hiring process has drawn public scrutiny, with many questioning whether the council can ensure a fair and merit-based selection process given the allegations of corruption. Harare residents, who have faced ongoing service delivery issues, are demanding accountability and transparency from the council.

Critics argue that the Finance Director role is a litmus test for the city’s ability to reform and rebuild trust. With 43 candidates in the running, the council’s decision will be closely watched, not only for its impact on Harare’s finances but also for its implications for governance in the city.

What’s Next?

The Local Government Board is expected to announce the shortlisted candidates in the coming weeks. As the council faces mounting pressure to appoint a capable and ethical leader, Harare residents are left to hope that the process delivers a candidate who can restore financial stability and confidence in the city’s governance.

This is a developing story, and updates will follow as the selection process unfolds.

MP Earning $15,000 Monthly’s Not Paid A Penny Of Child Maintenance – Case

By Paul Nyathi | Masvingo, Zimbabwe – December 6, 2024
Zanu PF Bikita West legislator, Energy Mutodi, who reportedly earns an impressive US$15,000 per month from his businesses, legal practice, and parliamentary duties, is now under fire for failing to contribute to the maintenance of his six-month-old child. His ex-wife, Polite Dhiyo, has filed a lawsuit demanding US$1,500 monthly child support, alleging that Mutodi has not paid a single cent towards the child’s upkeep.

The application, filed at the Masvingo Magistrates Court this morning, paints a grim picture of neglect despite Mutodi’s substantial earnings. Dhiyo alleges that the MP, who holds a high-profile position in government and enjoys significant financial benefits, has shirked his responsibilities as a parent.

“I was married in 2023 to the respondent under customary law. The respondent paid part of the lobola to my parents. However, we later separated. During the customary law union, we had one minor child, who is now six months old,” Dhiyo stated in her court filing. She emphasized that Mutodi had committed to supporting the child post-separation but has failed to honor that promise.

According to Dhiyo, she has been left to shoulder the full financial burden of raising the child, providing shelter, food, clothing, and medical care, while Mutodi continues to enjoy his considerable monthly income.

Lavish Income vs. Child Neglect

What is particularly striking about this case is the glaring disparity between Mutodi’s earnings and his alleged neglect of parental duties. As a sitting Member of Parliament, Mutodi is said to rake in US$15,000 monthly—a salary and income level that far exceeds the average Zimbabwean household’s income. Despite this, Dhiyo claims that Mutodi has chosen to avoid even the basic responsibility of supporting his child.

The US$1,500 Dhiyo is requesting represents just 10% of Mutodi’s reported monthly income, yet the court application suggests he has provided absolutely no financial assistance, leaving the child entirely dependent on Dhiyo’s efforts.

Public Outcry Likely

This revelation is likely to spark outrage among Zimbabweans, who are already grappling with economic hardships and rising inequality. Many may find it difficult to reconcile Mutodi’s privileged income with his alleged neglect of parental responsibilities.

Dhiyo’s case also highlights the broader issue of accountability among public officials who are expected to set an example in society. Critics argue that if an individual earning US$15,000 per month cannot meet basic obligations to their own child, it raises questions about their commitment to serving the public and upholding moral and ethical standards.

Court to Hear Case

The Masvingo Magistrates Court is expected to set a hearing date soon, where Mutodi will be required to respond to the allegations. Meanwhile, Dhiyo’s case continues to shed light on the struggles faced by women and children when fathers with substantial means refuse to fulfill their responsibilities.

This developing story has gripped the nation, with many awaiting the court’s decision and its potential implications for accountability among Zimbabwe’s wealthy and politically connected elite.

‘Visions Of Dead People’ Complaining Lead Police To Arrest Thugs

Four Arrested for Violating 380 Graves in Harare

Harare, Zimbabwe – December 5, 2024

By A Correspondent | In a shocking development, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the arrest of four suspects in connection with the desecration of approximately 380 graves at Restland Memorial Park in Rainham, Harare. The arrests mark the culmination of an investigation into grave violations spanning nearly a decade, from 2015 to 2024.

The suspects, identified as Edwin Muronzi, Tinashe Chiguma (32), Moses Gwanya (19), and Kudakwashe Humure (21), were apprehended following a report made by Tinashe Chiguma. Chiguma informed authorities that he had been experiencing unsettling visions of deceased individuals, which prompted him to come forward. During his statement, Chiguma implicated his employer, Edwin Muronzi, as well as his co-accused, leading to their swift arrests.

Restland Cemetery

According to ZRP investigations, Edwin Muronzi employed grave diggers at the cemetery, paying them between USD $15.00 and $20.00 per grave to exhume and desecrate burial sites. The alleged motive behind these violations was to create space for new burials, with Muronzi orchestrating the illicit operation. Police reports also suggest that additional suspects involved in the scheme remain at large.

The desecration of graves at Restland Memorial Park has sent shockwaves across Harare and raised questions about the oversight and management of burial grounds in the city. Authorities have assured the public that efforts are ongoing to locate other individuals implicated in the scandal.

This developing story highlights a disturbing case of cemetery violations, with families and communities now demanding accountability and justice for the desecration of their loved ones’ final resting places. Further details are expected as investigations continue.

“Makarakashwa musadzoka kuno, endai munosvasvanga, remember muri machairmen eSADC.”

Demand for National Offender Registry Grows Amidst Rising S*xual Violence

By A Correspondent

Child protection groups are intensifying their push for a National Sexual Offender Registry following the alarming revelation that over 3,500 girls and women fell victim to sexual violence in the first quarter of 2024. This disturbing trend, revealed by Childline, suggests that by year-end, the number of victims could exceed 15,000.

According to Childline director Ms. Ratidzai Moyo, the organization’s records show a disturbing increase in sexual violence over the years. “The statistics are alarming, and it’s imperative that we establish a national sexual offender register to hold perpetrators accountable,” she emphasized. Moyo believes that this registry will play a vital role in safeguarding women and girls from sexual predators.

The call for a National Sexual Offender Registry comes as child protection groups and officials from the Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs engage in discussions to address the rising issue of sexual violence.

With the number of victims projected to rise, the need for a comprehensive registry to track and monitor sexual offenders has become increasingly urgent.

Arsenal Bury Manchester United

Sports Correspondent

Arsenal claimed a 2-0 victory over Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday, with Jurriën Timber and William Saliba scoring from corners.

The win reduced the gap to Premier League leaders Liverpool and handed United manager Ruben Amorim his first defeat, ending his unbeaten start at the club.

The match began in a subdued fashion, with Arsenal threatening mainly through set pieces.

Thomas Partey failed to convert a dangerous Declan Rice corner, which might have been finished by the injured Gabriel. United goalkeeper André Onana was forced to punch clear from corners twice, with Gabriel Martinelli missing the target on one occasion.

The visitors, looking to control possession and slow the game, came close to scoring before the break when Diogo Dalot dragged his shot wide from a tight angle.

Arsenal started the second half stronger, taking the lead in the 54th minute when Timber scored from another Rice corner, heading in from a tight angle. United responded soon after with a dangerous header from Matthijs de Ligt, but goalkeeper David Raya made a stunning save to keep Arsenal ahead.

The Gunners doubled their advantage in the 73rd minute. A header from Partey from a Bukayo Saka corner found Saliba, whose deflection sent the ball into the net for Arsenal’s 22nd league goal from a corner since the start of last season.

Rice came close to adding a third goal, but Mikel Merino’s header from a follow-up corner went wide. With each set piece, the crowd grew in expectation.

Arsenal held on to secure the win, capitalizing on Liverpool’s draw at Newcastle United. The victory lifted the Gunners to third place, behind Chelsea on goal difference, with 28 points from 14 games, reducing the gap to the leaders to seven points.

For United, it was a disappointing result, marking Amorim’s first loss as manager and his first league defeat since December 2023, when his former club Sporting fell to Vitória de Guimarães. United are now 11th in the table with 19 points.

Ezekiel Guti’s Successors Clash On Stage For The First Time

By A Correspondent | ZimEye | Ezekiel Guti’s most prominent daughter has for the first time clashed with the late ZAOGA church owner’s successor’s wife. In the footage below Ezekiel Guti’s successor Joe’s wife, is rudely interrupted and opposed on the stage after instructing that worshippers are free to leave if they wish.

“Some of us, if you feel that you have done it it’s okay, you can just go,” says Miriam Nyasha Guti. While speaking, her husband’s contender for the church top leadership, Laverne Guti speeds up to near where she is to scream that people should rather stay inside…

Laverne who is on record leading followers to receive psychotic fire from her late dad’s ghost the church says appeared in UK guarded by two angels in October, like Jesus Christ, is on LIVE broadcast telling people to disregard Nyasha’s statement and rather chose to receive the same so called “Jesus” Guti-Ghost character previously experienced in Birmingham

ZAOGA Members in Birmingham Claim to Witness Late Ezekiel Guti’s Spirit in Bizarre Saturday Night Incident

“Don’t go without receiving Jesus, those who want to receive prayers, don’t go anywhere, stay there where you are,” screams Laverne.

At that point Nyasha stutters and struggles to contain the embarrassment, and pales out while looking into the crowd.

The development is one of the latest public clashes between the two Laverve and Joe, the latter who was appointed the Mnangagwa-Hero- Prophet’s successor on the day Laverne’s mother, Eunah, fainted while hearing that her daughter has been skipped for the top post.

“Laverne could be trying to bring people to Christ, though we are concerned with the manner it was done,” said a deacon.

“That being the case, this is a minor deviation and so it always be for the major is that the gospel was preached, anyhow,” said one Tawanda Nyikadzino.“

“And for to major in the minor is also a personal choice and that also shows your maturity, too, Amen!!!,” he added.

The whole thing is a mess, and it underlines people’s speculations about a rift between the Gutis and makes it clear there are personal fights for power in the church which distracts attention,” a former church elder told ZimEye.

At the moment, Laverner has since taken over the church’ external structures and now spends more time at her father’s £1 million UK house, and she recently ran a prayer meeting where she led worshippers to receive psychotic “fire ? into their hands” from her father’s ghost which was spotted running up and down in the Birmingham meeting.

Chivhayo Shocks Mai Chisamba

By Showbiz Reporter- Talk show host Rebecca Chisamba, affectionately known as Mai Chisamba, has received a brand-new 2024 Toyota Fortuner 2.4 4×4 Automatic from controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo. The gesture, which Chivayo publicized on social media, has drawn widespread attention and sparked debate.

Chivayo, known for showering public figures with extravagant gifts, described Mai Chisamba as “Zimbabwe’s own Oprah Winfrey.” In his heartfelt post, he praised her for her contributions to Zimbabwean society:

“You have been a guiding light for Zimbabwe, touching countless lives through your iconic television programs, which remain a source of rich knowledge, unity, and hope. Your passion for promoting Hunhu/Ubuntu and preserving ‘tsika nemagariro evanhu vatema’ is unmatched.”

Chivayo credited Mai Chisamba’s shows with reconciling families, healing broken marriages, and fostering national values. He fondly recalled watching her programs as a child, drawing parallels between Mai Chisamba and his late mother.

The car, Chivayo wrote, was a token of gratitude for Mai Chisamba’s “exceptional impact” on Zimbabwean society. He instructed her to collect the vehicle from Faramatsi Motors, declaring it fully paid for.

Chivayo has been on a spree of high-profile donations. In recent months, he has gifted cars to prominent figures such as Leonard Zhakata, Mechanic Manyeruke, Moses Chunga, and Charles Mabika. He also surprised four female dancers from Jah Prayzah’s band with Toyota Aqua vehicles.

While some see these gestures as acts of philanthropy, others argue they are politically motivated, designed to curry favor for ZANU PF.

Chivayo’s wealth and motives have long been subjects of intense scrutiny.

A self-proclaimed millionaire, he rose to prominence through flashy displays of wealth on social media and lucrative, albeit contentious, government contracts.

Among the most notorious is the $5 million he received in 2015 from the Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC) to develop the Gwanda Solar Project.

Despite receiving funds, the project stalled for years, sparking public outcry and accusations of corruption.

Chivayo later claimed the delays were due to bureaucratic red tape and sabotage by rivals.

His name has also been linked to alleged money laundering, fraud, and political patronage.

Critics often cite his close ties to ZANU PF as a factor in his financial success.

Chivayo’s latest donation has elicited mixed reactions. While many commended him for recognizing Mai Chisamba’scontributions, others saw it as a calculated political maneuver.

On social media, user @Pachisolife accused Chivayo of being part of ZANU PF’s “parallel structures” designed to distract citizens:

“Whoever came up with this political strategy of donating cars to less than 100 people, thinking 16 million will vote for you, is stupid… Imagine somebody voting for Wicknell’s parallel ZANU PF because Chisamba got a car.”

As Zimbabwe grapples with economic hardships and political turmoil, acts like Chivayo’s are often viewed through a lens of skepticism. While his gifts may benefit individuals, questions linger about their broader implications for transparency, governance, and the intersection of wealth and power.

For Mai Chisamba, the gift is a symbol of her enduring legacy.

But for Chivayo, it remains a reminder of the controversies that have defined his career

Young Warriors Hammer Eswatini

Zimbabwe kicked off their 2024 COSAFA U17 Boys tournament Group B campaign with a dominant 5-1 victory over Eswatini on Thursday.

The Young Warriors showcased an impressive first-half display, with El Shaddai Sadomba, the son of former Zimbabwe international Edward Sadomba, and Tadiwa Chakuchicha at the heart of their attacking brilliance.

Chakuchicha opened the scoring early with a fantastic solo run and then went on to provide two key assists. Sadomba made his mark with a brilliant first-half hat-trick, starting with his first goal in the 25th minute. He added two more in quick succession, finding the back of the net in the 35th and 42nd minutes.

Substitute Kupakwashe Mazorera came close to extending the lead early in the second half, but his effort was disallowed due to a handball in the build-up shortly after the hour mark.

Valentine Macheka sealed the victory with a clinical finish in the 85th minute, making it 5-0. Eswatini managed to grab a consolation goal in added time, but the match ended 5-1 in Zimbabwe’s favor.

Next up for Zimbabwe is a Group B clash against Zambia on December 7.

Mliswa Criticizes ZIFA Presidential Rival Magwizi’s Credentials

Sports Correspondent

Temba Mliswa, a candidate for the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) presidency, has questioned the qualifications of fellow aspirant Nqobile Magwizi, suggesting he is not suited to lead Zimbabwean football.

Mliswa and Magwizi are two of the nine confirmed candidates competing for the top position in the upcoming ZIFA elections, set for January 25, 2025.

In a post on X, Mliswa expressed that Magwizi might be better suited for the role of ZIFA CEO rather than president. He wrote: “I saw Nqobile Magwizi’s CV, and with all due respect, I would say he is very qualified to be the ZIFA CEO. His resume aligns more with the CEO position than with the presidency. In fact, if I win, I would offer him that role.”

What You Need To Know About Reaction Distance

Please take extra care driving in wet weather.
Adapt your driving to the conditions.

Your tyres will have less grip on the road. Keep well back from the vehicle in front – stopping distances will be at least double than dry roads.

Driving at a lower speed will give you more time to react to hazards that aren’t immediately visible through the rain.
Use dipped headlights so that other drivers can see you.

Note But
0 seconds is the point of crashing but any added amount of seconds could get you to your destination. others say 2 seconds, while others say 3 seconds and others say 5 seconds or even more.

The more seconds a driver has to to react to a situation the better it will be especially for easily distracted drivers.

Fuel Trucks Forced Out Of Zimbabwe After ZIMRA Imposed Duty On Transits

Harare, Zimbabwe – December 5, 2024

By A Correspondent | Zimbabwean truck drivers, particularly those operating fuel tankers, have raised urgent concerns over a new fuel transit system that has significantly affected their livelihoods. According to the drivers, the system, introduced close to three months ago, requires all fuel trucks in transit to pay duty, a measure they claim has left them without work as foreign trucks now dominate the sector.

Fuel truck- file copy

Speaking on behalf of affected drivers, the group explained that this system has made it unviable for Zimbabwean fuel trucks to compete, as fuel transportation is increasingly being handled by trucks from neighboring countries such as Zambia, Mozambique, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

“We no longer have jobs as Zimbabwean truck drivers. The tankers transporting fuel now belong to Zambia, Mozambique, and the DRC. We are pleading with the government, especially Minister Mthuli Ncube, to address our concerns,” said a representative of the drivers.

The drivers reported that prior to the implementation of this system, they were actively involved in transporting fuel within and through Zimbabwe. However, since the changes, foreign truckers have opted to use alternative routes, bypassing Zimbabwe entirely. Trucks transporting fuel from South Africa now favor the Botswana route, while those coming from Beira opt for Mozambique’s Zambia-Tete corridor.

“This has been happening for close to three months now. Trucks from South Africa avoid Zimbabwe, and those from Beira are using Mozambique routes instead. This new system has left us with nothing,” the drivers lamented.

The truckers are appealing for urgent intervention from the government, requesting that policies be reviewed to create a fair playing field for Zimbabwean transporters. They fear that without immediate action, local truck drivers will be completely displaced from the industry.

Efforts to reach Minister Mthuli Ncube for comment were unsuccessful at the time of publication.

This development has sparked broader questions about the impact of policy decisions on local industries and the need to balance government revenue measures with protecting domestic employment opportunities.

Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.

UK Govt Announces Crackdown on Visa Abuse and Worker Exploitation

By A Correspondent |In a bold move to address the exploitation of overseas workers, the UK Government has unveiled new measures aimed at penalizing employers who misuse visa sponsorship rules. This initiative, part of a broader strategy to reform immigration practices, was announced by the Minister for Migration and Citizenship, Seema Malhotra MP, and comes as part of the ongoing Employment Rights Bill.

Stricter Penalties and Preventive Measures:

  • Extended Sanction Periods: Employers previously faced a maximum of one year sanctions for violating visa regulations. This has now been doubled to at least two years for repeat offenders, emphasizing a tougher stance against visa abuse.
  • Proactive Action Plans: Instead of waiting for serious breaches, the government will now implement action plans for businesses showing signs of rule-breaking. These plans will now extend from three to twelve months, providing a longer period for employers to rectify issues and comply with regulations.

Focus on the Care Sector:

The care sector, identified as particularly vulnerable to exploitation, is at the heart of these reforms. Minister for Care, Stephen Kinnock, highlighted the invaluable role of migrant workers in social care but stressed the need for protection against rogue employers:

“Cracking down on these unethical employers will protect migrant workers from unacceptable and shameful exploitation.”

  • Revocation of Sponsor Licences: Since July 2022, about 450 sponsor licences in the care sector have been revoked due to violations. The government is committed to supporting these workers in transitioning to alternative employment within the sector.

Protecting Workers from Financial Exploitation:

One of the unethical practices being addressed is the charging of sponsorship fees to workers. The new rules will ensure that employers bear these costs, preventing workers from being burdened with unsustainable debts:

“No longer will employers be able to exploit international workers for costs they were always supposed to pay if they choose not to recruit domestically,” stated Minister Malhotra.

Enhanced Enforcement Actions:

  • Increased Immigration Enforcement: The government reports a significant increase in enforcement activities, with Immigration Enforcement conducting 856 visits in October alone, marking a 55% increase from the previous year.
  • Legal and Financial Consequences: Employers found exploiting the system now face not only financial penalties but also the potential closure of their business and criminal prosecution.

Government’s Broader Strategy:

This crackdown is part of a wider governmental effort to overhaul the immigration system, aligning migration policy with skills development and labor market needs. The initiative seeks not only to punish but also to prevent exploitation by fostering an environment where migrant workers are treated fairly and their rights are upheld.

The Employment Rights Bill, currently navigating through Parliament, will incorporate these changes, establishing a new Fair Work Agency to oversee enforcement across various employment sectors. This agency will integrate existing regulatory functions to ensure a more cohesive approach to worker rights and employer accountability.

The government’s commitment to these reforms underscores a pivotal shift towards a more humane and regulated immigration framework, aiming to protect both the integrity of the visa system and the welfare of overseas workers contributing to the UK economy.

Mnangagwa Rewards Soldiers With Houses, Vehicles

40 Pupils Expelled from School

In an unfolding situation at Mother Patrick Convent Primary School in Harare’s Mainway Meadows, approximately 40 students, up to Grade 6, have been abruptly expelled. The school cited the disruption of lessons as the primary reason for this drastic action in letters dated December 2, 2024, sent to parents and guardians.

Acting head Eugenia Muketiwa’s letter explained the expulsions: “Your child has exceeded the allowable limit as per our school’s attendance policy. As a result, we regret to inform you that we are withdrawing your child from our school roll.”

This decision comes in the wake of a teachers’ strike that commenced on November 19, driven by grievances over poor working conditions, demands for fair labor practices, and the payment of outstanding salaries and bonuses. The strike led to a significant disruption in the school’s operations, with parents reporting that their children were left unsupervised, prompting some to withdraw their children for safety reasons.

Parents and guardians have voiced their dismay, labeling the expulsions as unfair and punitive. One parent expressed, “This is a clear case of victimisation by the school administration. Our children are being punished for the actions of the teachers, which is not their fault.” Another parent was perplexed, stating, “How do they miss classes when the staff has been on strike for more than two weeks? We feel the children are being victimised while the school authorities are failing to attend to the challenges affecting the school.”

The school’s management, represented by Mr. Matigimu, has responded to the crisis with a commitment to restore normalcy. In a letter to parents, Matigimu acknowledged the shortcomings: “We acknowledge that the recent events may have fallen short of this expectation. We are committed to restoring normalcy and stability at our school at the earliest.” He also encouraged parents to bring their children back to school, emphasizing the importance of student presence for the institution’s functioning, while assuring that efforts are being made to resolve the administrative issues at hand.

The situation at Mother Patrick Convent Primary School highlights the broader issues of labor disputes in educational settings and their impact on students’ education. The community now watches closely as the school attempts to navigate through this crisis, with hopes pinned on the resolution of the teachers’ grievances and the reinstatement of the expelled learners.

Old Mutual Manager Arrested

Musa Nyasha Dube Manyika, a 41-year-old senior manager at Old Mutual, appeared in Harare Magistrates Court today, charged with the rape of a 23-year-old female student who was on attachment at the company. Manyika, who holds the position of Business Development Manager, was granted free bail by Harare Magistrate Mrs. Marehwanazvo Gofa.

The legal proceedings have been remanded until January 15, 2025, for the allocation of a potential trial date.

According to court documents, the incident in question first occurred in November 2022, when Manyika allegedly sent a WhatsApp message to the intern, requesting her assistance with packing banners at Old Mutual Gardens. Upon her arrival at his office, Manyika is said to have locked the door. After the task was completed, it’s alleged that he assaulted the young woman by pushing her onto a table and committing the act.

The second incident reportedly took place on June 19, 2024. The complainant, who was under Manyika’s supervision as part of the Old Mutual Scholarship programme, met him at Ashbrittle Shops. Here, Manyika allegedly invited her into his car where he engaged intimately with her without her consent.

Following these distressing events, the complainant courageously filed a police report, which led to Manyika’s arrest. This case has brought significant attention to issues of workplace safety and the vulnerability of interns in professional settings.

Old Mutual, a prominent financial services group, has yet to issue a public statement regarding the allegations against one of its senior managers. The details of this case continue to unfold, raising concerns about the treatment of interns and the abuse of power within corporate structures.

As the community and stakeholders await further developments, this case serves as a grim reminder of the importance of protective measures for young professionals in the workplace.

Zivhu Says Magaya Does Not Deserve To Lead ZIFA

By A Correspondent

Controversial Zanu PF official Killer Zivhu has openly criticized Walter Magaya, founder and leader of PHD Ministries, saying the cleric is unfit to lead the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA). Zivhu’s comments come in response to Magaya’s recent ambitions to get involved in football leadership.

In a sharp rebuke, Zivhu stated, “I’ll take Hon. Temba Mliswa over this guy any day! Football needs planning, skill & physical training, NOT prayers! Miracles & sports are two different things! This guy prioritizes Israel trips over proper training & prep for AFCON. Let’s focus on developing our team’s skills.”

Zivhu continued, emphasizing that football development should be grounded in practical strategies rather than religious endeavors.

One soccer fan echoed similar sentiments, commenting, “Yes well said. He is not fit for that position. Whoever advised him to contest does not have ZIFA at heart. Ngaite zve sangano rake. Handisati ndamboona mukuru we church anoda kungowanikwa pese.”

Primary School Fires 40 Pupils

By- A private primary school, Mother Patrick Convent in Waterfalls’ Mainway Meadows, has fired 40 learners for allegedly disrupting lessons.

The pupils up to Grade 6 were served with letters of expulsion from the institution.

NewsDay reports that some of the pupils were sent packing on December 2 this year, with authorities informing parents and guardians that their children had been expelled from the school due to their absence from school for more than a week.

“Your child has exceeded the allowable limit as per our school’s attendance policy.
“As a result, we regret to inform you that we are withdrawing your child from our school roll,” part of the letter written by acting head Eugenia Muketiwa read.

However, according to a week-long investigation and interactions with parents and guardians, the authorities withdrew the children after staff at the school downed tools over poor working conditions and unpaid salaries.

The strike, which began on November 19,  was sparked by teachers’ demands for better working conditions, fair labour practices and payment of outstanding salaries and bonuses.

The job action led to the expulsion of the students from school.

The teachers alleged that the school’s administration, which was led by the former headmistress Tendayi Kagurabadza, had failed to address their concerns, which forced parents and guardians to withdraw their children from the school.

Meanwhile, the expulsions have fuelled the dispute between parents and the school authorities.
Parents and guardians expressed outrage and disappointment over the expulsions, which they claimed to be unfair and unjustified.
“This is a clear case of victimisation by the school administration. Our children are being punished for the actions of the teachers, which is not their fault,” one of the parents said.
Some of the parents revealed that they were forced to withdraw their children, who were loitering around the school with no one to look after them as the strike went on.
“We were shocked when the children, who returned to school this week, were served with expulsion letters for allegedly missing classes,” another parent said.
“How do they miss classes when the staff has been on strike for more than two weeks?
“We feel the children are being victimised while the school authorities are failing to attend to the challenges affecting the school.”

But amid the ongoing challenges, school authorities have assured parents of normalcy restoration and stability at the institution.

In a letter signed by the management board chairperson, identified only as Mr Matigimu, the authorities assured parents that they will take full responsibility for ensuring an enabling learning environment at the school.
“We acknowledge that the recent events may have fallen short of this expectation. We are committed to restoring normalcy and stability at our school at the earliest,” part of the letter read.
“We appreciate your patience, understanding and continued support during this challenging time.
“We are confident that together, we can overcome the current difficulties and restore Mother Patrick to its former glory.”
Matigimu also urged parents to return their children to school for the good of the institution.
“A school is not a school without the little ones. We encourage you to bring your children to school with immediate effect.
“In parallel, we are working tirelessly to engage with all stakeholders, including our teachers to resolve internal administrative matters,” he said. Newsday

Doctors Demand Answers From Mthuli Over 2024 Sugar Tax

By A Correspondent| The Zimbabwe Association of Doctors for Human Rights (ZADHR) has put Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion Minister Hon. Mthuli Ncube under the spotlight by requesting to be furnished with information detailing the total amount of sugar tax collected by government and how the financial resources have been utilised.

In a letter written on 21 November 2024 to the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion, ZADHR, which is represented by their lawyer, Precious Chakasikwa of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, asked the Ncube-led ministry to provide it with an account of how much special surtax on sugar content in beverages had been collected from 9 February 2024, when government gazetted Statutory Instrument 16/24, the Customs and Excise (Tariff) (Amendment) Notice, 2024 (No. 5).

ZADHR also wants the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion to furnish it with an account of what cancer drugs and equipment have been procured since the introduction of the sugar tax and the list of hospitals to which these have been distributed to.

The doctor’s association made the request for access to the information in terms of the provisions of section 7 of the Freedom of Information Act.

ZADHR’s request is aimed at promoting transparency and accountability in the use of public funds.

In February, government introduced a levy on sugary beverages claiming that this was aimed at discouraging people from consuming too much sugar, which it blamed for causing some forms of cancer.

Ncube justified the introduction of the sugar tax as a response to growing concerns on the adverse effects of consumption of sugar, stating that the funds generated from the levy would be ring-fenced for therapy and procurement of cancer equipment.

School Heads Withhold Grade 7 Results Over Fees

Staff Reporter- School heads in most schools throughout the country are demanding unpaid fees for them to release the results of Grade 7s.

They demand outstanding teacher incentives, fees, and money to buy buses.

The Government said such practices are unethical and attract heavy penalties.

The state media reported that it has been receiving many calls from angry parents, some of whom acknowledged owing the school fees and some who argued they had settled all fees but not monies for incentives and bus levies.

Some schools singled out for withholding result slips were Greater Heights School in Waterfalls, Glen View 5 Primary School and Pamushana Primary School in Mberengwa.

A parent who identified herself as Mrs Mukotekwa, with a child that was at Glen View 5 Primary, reported being compelled to pay a US$40 bus levy before collecting the result slip.

Another parent from Greater Heights, who wished to remain anonymous, expressed frustration over being asked to pay fees for learners who had already completed their examinations.

Primary and Secondary Education Ministry spokeperson Mr Taungana Ndoro said schools were not permitted to withhold Zimsec results for any reason.

“Our policy clearly states that no school is permitted to withhold Zimsec results. The contractual agreement regarding examinations lies between the candidate and Zimsec and by delivering the results, Zimsec has fulfilled its obligations,” he said.
“Therefore, any school that fails to adhere to this policy is in violation of the established contract. Schools that withhold results risk facing disciplinary action for their non-compliance.
“It is essential for educational institutions to uphold the integrity of the examination process and ensure that students receive their results without obstruction. This policy aims to protect the rights of candidates and maintain trust in the educational system.”

Mnangagwa Pampers Junta

By Political Reporter-President Emmerson Mnangagwa has handed over 54 brand-new Ford Ranger vehicles to the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) and commissioned 220 housing units under the Dzivaresekwa and Imbizo Barracks Institutional Accommodation Project.

He further pledged to construct 8,430 more housing units as part of the same initiative.

These actions are part of Mnangagwa’s broader strategy of using military patronage to secure political dominance.

By rewarding the army with material perks, he solidifies its loyalty to his administration, ensuring its continued role as a key enforcer of Zanu PF’s rule.

The strategy extends beyond the barracks.

In rural areas, soldiers have played a pivotal role in maintaining Zanu PF’s grip on power.

The military often acts as an enforcement tool, intimidating opposition supporters and coercing communities into backing the ruling party.

Reports of soldiers influencing voting outcomes underscore the deepening militarization of Zimbabwe’s electoral process.

The military’s involvement in political repression was starkly demonstrated during the 1 August 2018 shootings, where six unarmed civilians were killed during post-election protests.

This tragic incident highlighted the military’s controversial role in protecting Zanu PF’s interests while suppressing dissent.

Critics argue that Mnangagwa’s administration has taken militarization to unprecedented levels, making the army an indispensable ally in rural control and election management.

While these efforts are presented as developmental, they deepen Zimbabwe’s authoritarian landscape, blurring the lines between the state and the military and further eroding democratic governance.

Maxwell Chikumbutso Notorious Scam 9 Years Later ZESA Still Importing Electricity

MAXWELLCHIKUMBUTSO

On Tue 2nd Jan 2024, a businessman phoned ZimEye saying a Nigerian Govenor wishes to sponsor the self proclaimed inventor Maxwell Chikumbutso and they are requesting his contacts.

ZimEye provided the caller a verification service over Mr Chikumbutso and the summary report is as follows:

For 8 years Maxwell Chikumbutso says the govt of Zimbabwe will arrest him over his free-energy chopper, drone, and car; His helicopter could by now have ambulance-d thousands
of accident victims and 8 years later he’s busy enjoying meetings with Africa’s worst dictator and his deputy Constantino Chiwenga; Upon visiting his home, ZimEye finds his residential property obtaining ZESA electricity supply like all other ordinary citizens. Our reporter asks to purchase one of his drones, and his response is that he is afraid of getting arrested for flying drones without permission, something which govt critics like Simba Chikanza do even onto the President’s office window without hindrance. He says he cannot produce the car he showed the @SABCNews in 2015, because he dismantled it, and the chopper he also displayed back then is nowhere to be seen.

In interviews with ZimEye, he talks more about poison attacks against him than explaining any of his inventions. For years he has convinced people that inventors especially Africans who defy the laws of science are poisoned, while contemporary local Africans of his age group like Zimbabwean @william_sachiti and the SAn @elonmusk are producing their automative inventions without hindrance. ZimEye has for 8 years been ready to set up meetings of Chikumbutso with tried and tested industry colleagues- ZimEye has offered to help connect Chikumbutso with Sachiti and Elon Musk, who are busy producing their inventions while Chikumbutso instead of teaming up with these real-scientific innovators, choses rather to spend 8 years secretly meeting Emmerson Mnangagwa, who seized state power by fooling the army that he had been poisoned in November 2017.

In the 1hr interview (video clip below), he reveals to ZimEye that the Americans who visited him and claimed to have tested his free electricity, are no scientists at all, they are just fiction movie (sci-fi) producers.

Max Chikumbutso also revealed that he is connected to and regularly meets false prophets the likes of the GoldMafia implicated, Uebert Angel, and Emmanuel Makandiwa. He was asked about his suggestions to appoint Uebert Angel the Prime Minister Of Zimbabwe, which he denied.

That Chikumbutso chooses to spend years meeting a political trickster, fiction film producers, and false prophets seems to speak a lot about his priorities and the nature of his free energy invention, that it is mere imaginative science fiction upon which he generates Internet fame.

So far, every person who has met Chikumbutso intending to sponsor his inventions, has died in highly suspicious circumstances: the dead Angolan who gave him USD120,000 and Marry Chiwenga’s cousin, Genius Kadungure.

ZimEye’s advisory on Maxwell Chikumbutso is to stay away from him and if one wishes to do anything, whatever that is, it has to be the task of exposing his trickeries which have been accompanied by the death of at least 2 prominent people.- ZimEye

Govt Condemns Schools Withholding Grade 7 Results for Fees and Incentives

By Dorrothy Moyo | The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has issued a stern warning to school heads illegally withholding Grade 7 result slips until parents pay outstanding fees, bus levies, and teacher incentives. This comes amid mounting frustration from parents, some of whom have settled all their dues, yet are still being denied access to their children’s results. The Government has vowed heavy penalties, including arrests, for those who defy the policy.

Parents’ Anguish and Unlawful Demands

Reports from several schools, including Greater Heights School in Waterfalls, Glen View 5 Primary School, and Pamushana Primary School in Mberengwa, have exposed school heads demanding payments before releasing results.

Mrs. Mukotekwa, a parent from Glen View 5 Primary, recounted her ordeal:

“I was told I needed to pay a US$40 bus levy before I could collect my child’s result slip. This demand came despite my child having already completed their studies at the school.”

Another parent from Greater Heights School expressed disbelief over being asked to pay fees after their child had completed exams. “It feels like extortion. We’ve paid everything required for the exams. Why must we keep paying for unrelated demands?”

Government’s Tough Stance

Ministry spokesperson Mr. Taungana Ndoro condemned these practices, emphasizing that schools are not authorized to withhold Zimsec results under any circumstances.

“Our policy clearly states that no school is permitted to withhold Zimsec results. The contractual agreement regarding examinations lies between the candidate and Zimsec, and by delivering the results, Zimsec has fulfilled its obligations,” said Mr. Ndoro.

He further warned schools engaging in this behavior:

“Schools that withhold results risk facing disciplinary action for their non-compliance. By denying candidates access to essential documents, school heads are limiting students’ opportunities to advance their education. This is not only illegal but also deeply unethical.”

Bribery for Form 1 Places

In addition to withholding results, some school heads are reportedly demanding bribes of up to US$500 for Form 1 placements. The Ministry has promised swift action against such corrupt practices, including arrests and imprisonment for offenders.

“Heads who are caught soliciting for bribes will face imprisonment as part of the Government’s commitment to combat corruption within the education system,” said Mr. Ndoro.

He stressed that such unethical behavior undermines trust in the educational system:

“The consequences of these actions extend beyond individual penalties; they help restore trust among parents and students in the system. Ensuring admissions are based on merit rather than financial transactions is essential for fostering fairness and equality in education.”

Parents Demand Accountability

Parents across the country have called for more robust enforcement of policies and accountability for rogue school heads. “We need to see tangible actions against those who exploit families and tarnish the integrity of our education system,” said one parent.

A Broken System in Need of Repair

The withholding of results and bribery allegations are symptomatic of deeper challenges in Zimbabwe’s education sector, where underfunding has led to the rise of informal charges like teacher incentives and bus levies. However, experts argue that such practices cannot excuse the blatant disregard for students’ rights.

“This is a gross violation of children’s rights and a betrayal of public trust. Schools are meant to empower, not exploit,” said an education activist.

As the Government takes a firm stand, the public will be watching closely to ensure that those exploiting the system are held accountable and that transparency is restored to the education sector.

Zim Banking Sector, Still No Arrests

United Merchant Bank (UMB) – Closed in 1998 due to insider loans and
mismanagement.

By Eng. Jacob Kudzayi Mutisi | Universal Merchant Bank (UMB) – Closed in 2003 struggled with negative
perceptions after UMB’s collapse.
Barbican Bank- Closed in 2004 due to financial mismanagement and
liquidity issues.

Interfin Bank – Closed in 2012 Due to insider loans and mismanagement
and some significant financial discrepancies.

AfrAsia Bank Zimbabwe – Went into liquidation in 2014 due to financial
instability.

Trust Bank – Closed in 2014 following a loss of confidence and
regulatory issues.

ZABG Bank (Zimbabwe Allied Banking Group) – Formed in 2004 but faced
severe liquidity issues, leading to its closure in 2018.

Capital Bank – Closed in 2014 due to financial mismanagement and
liquidity issues.

Royal Bank -Closed due to poor governance and bad loans

Zimbabwe’s banking sector historically has been marred by scandals and
corruption, leading to its eventual collapse. Despite the significant
losses incurred by depositors, no one has been held accountable for
the looting of depositors funds. It is now 2024 and this situation
raises serious questions about the integrity of the financial services
system in Zimbabwe and the effectiveness of its regulatory frameworks.

Historically, Zimbabwe’s financial institutions have suffered from a
lack of robust governance. The collapse of banks due to insider loans
and corporate corruption has been a recurring theme. Prominent cases,
such as the downfall of United Merchant Bank in 1998 and Barbican Bank in 2004, illustrated how executives exploited their positions for personal gain. These banks failed not because of external economic
pressures, but due to internal malfeasance, where funds intended for
depositors were siphoned off into private accounts.

The establishment of the Deposit Protection Corporation (DPC) in 2003
was intended to safeguard depositors from such frauds. However, its
effectiveness has been called into question. Instead of protecting the
interests of the public, it appears that the DPC has become part of
the problem. Promises of accountability have not materialised and the lack of prosecutions against those responsible for the financial
crimes suggests a culture of impunity. Reports indicate that former
banking executives and directors, who should have faced legal
consequences, have instead continued to prosper and continue to live
in luxury, while the depositors hollow in poverty.

This persistent lack of accountability has broader implications for
Zimbabwe’s financial services sector. It undermines public trust,
which is essential for a healthy banking environment. When depositors
see that their savings are not safe and that those who steal from them
face no repercussions, it breeds a culture of fear and scepticism.
This situation has led to a significant decline in confidence in the banking system, with many citizens opting to keep their funds in cash
or seek alternative financial avenues.
The complicity of government officials in these fraudulent activities
further complicates the issue.

Allegations have surfaced that some
banking executives bribed regulators and law enforcement to overlook
their misconduct. This suggests that the very institutions meant to
oversee the sector are either unwilling or unable to enforce laws
against corporate crime. The perception that political connections can shield wrongdoers from justice only serves to exacerbate the problem.
Moreover, the failure of shareholders to take action against the
looters is indicative of a deeper malaise within Zimbabwe’s corporate
culture. A lack of shareholder activism has allowed corrupt executives to operate without fear of accountability.

This passive acceptance of
wrongdoing reflects a broader societal issue where corruption has
become normalised and ethical considerations are often sidelined in
favor of personal gain.

The ramifications of this systemic failure are profound. As the
banking sector continues to struggle, the economy falters. The loss of
confidence in financial institutions hampers investment and economic
growth, further entrenching poverty and disenfranchisement among the
populace.
The collapse of Zimbabwe’s banking sector and the consequent lack of
accountability for those involved in looting depositors’ funds signal
a critical failure of governance and oversight. It highlights the
urgent need for reforms that restore trust in the financial system,
ensure accountability and protect the rights of depositors. Without
decisive action, the cycle of corruption and impunity may continue,
further crippling Zimbabwe’s financial landscape.

Corruption-Charged Deputy Mayor ‘Pferred’ Back to Office Despite Police Case

By A Correspondent | Bulawayo – In a move raising eyebrows and sparking public outcry, corruption-charged Deputy Mayor Edwin Ndlovu and Finance and Development Committee chairperson Mpumelelo Moyo have been controversially reinstated to their posts, despite facing serious allegations of soliciting bribes. This development comes after the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works clarified that the pair’s suspension does not apply to elected officials, only to council employees.

The two councillors, who were arrested last month and spent two weeks in custody for allegedly demanding a US$20,000 “facilitation” fee from a cement factory investor, are now back in their roles, a decision that some critics are calling a “pferred” signal of compromised governance.

A Suspension That Wasn’t?

The saga began last week when the Ministry issued a directive seemingly barring all individuals facing criminal charges from conducting council duties. However, the ministry later clarified that the directive excluded elected officials, allowing Ndlovu and Moyo to resume their positions.

Bulawayo Mayor David Coltart confirmed this interpretation, stating:

“The City of Bulawayo would like to advise members of the public that after seeking clarification from the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works, the Ministry advised that the Deputy Mayor Councillor Edwin Ndlovu and the chairperson of the Finance and Development Committee, Councillor Mpumelelo Moyo are not on suspension.”

Yet, the timing and implications of this reinstatement have left many questioning how accountability can thrive when those under suspicion are “pferred” back into office with ease.

Public Outrage Grows

The public reaction has been swift, with residents and civil society groups expressing disbelief over how elected officials accused of serious corruption charges are allowed to resume their duties. The move is seen by some as an affront to principles of good governance, especially at a time when public trust in local authorities is already strained.

“This decision undermines the fight against corruption,” said a Bulawayo resident, adding, “It’s a shame that individuals accused of abusing their office are ‘pferred’ back into power instead of stepping aside until their names are cleared.”

Legal Proceedings Continue

Ndlovu and Moyo’s reinstatement comes as they await trial. Both were granted bail by the Bulawayo High Court under conditions that include surrendering travel documents and avoiding contact with State witnesses. The court allowed them to remain involved in council operations, though they are required to appear in court on December 13 for a routine remand hearing.

Despite these restrictions, their return to office has sparked further concerns about whether they can perform their duties impartially while under investigation. For many, their reinstatement appears to send a worrying message that holding office is a privilege immune to allegations of wrongdoing.

Wider Implications for Governance

This controversy unfolds alongside another corruption case in Victoria Falls, where town clerk Ronnie Dube was suspended on charges of abuse of office. Unlike Ndlovu and Moyo, Dube’s suspension was enforced, barring him from council premises pending investigations.

The stark contrast between these two cases has not gone unnoticed. Critics argue that the “pferred” return of Ndlovu and Moyo reflects a double standard in the application of anti-corruption measures, undermining public confidence in the government’s commitment to transparency.

What Next?

As the legal proceedings against Ndlovu and Moyo continue, the spotlight remains on Bulawayo’s leadership and the Ministry of Local Government. Residents and stakeholders are calling for greater accountability and clarity, insisting that public trust cannot be “pferred” so easily when governance hangs in the balance.

For now, the Deputy Mayor and his colleague may be back at work, but questions about their integrity—and the system enabling their return—are far from settled.

Zimbabweans Duped In Sierra Leone Job Scam

By A Correspondent

More than 40 Zimbabweans are stranded in Sierra Leone after being lured to the West African nation by promises of lucrative jobs that turned out to be non-existent.

The group, seeking to escape Zimbabwe’s deepening crisis, arrived in Sierra Leone with hopes of finding work, only to face a grim reality.

The job scam involved a local company allegedly working in collaboration with a foreign entity, which promised these individuals well-paying employment opportunities.

However, upon reaching Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone, they discovered that no such jobs were available.

Authorities have classified the Zimbabweans’ plight as a case of human trafficking.

A government official, who spoke to The Herald on the condition of anonymity, revealed that seven Zimbabweans had managed to return home last week. Another four were expected to arrive on Tuesday, but they failed to return as scheduled.

“These people were duped into going to that country; they went with the promise of jobs but got a raw deal,” the official said.

The official further noted that investigations are ongoing, with efforts underway to negotiate the release of the stranded citizens.

“There is a lot of negotiation taking place to release our citizens. This issue has been silent, but there is now a push to release more citizens,” the official added.

As the Zimbabwean government works to resolve the situation, the victims remain in limbo, hoping for a swift resolution to their desperate circumstances.

The Unsung Of The PSL…

By Eng Brian Mukoyi

Kudzai Chigwida: The Unsung Hero of the Season. In the world of football, there are players whose contributions transcend statistics, whose influence cannot be measured merely by goals or assists. They are the spine of the team, the rock upon which victories are built. This season, Kudzai Chigwida was that player. As the defensive lynchpin for Ngezi Platinum Stars, Chigwida delivered one of the most consistent and inspiring performances of the season. Game after game, he stood tall, repelling attacks with unyielding determination, reading the game with the precision of a master tactician, and leading by example with his unshakeable composure. The stats alone don’t tell his story. Sure, there were 19 clean sheets—a testament to his influence at the back—but it was his ability to steady the ship in stormy waters that truly set him apart. When the stakes were highest, when matches teetered on a knife’s edge, Chigwida was there, a wall of resistance that frustrated even the most clinical of strikers. Yet, despite his stellar performances, the soccer stars selectors inexplicably overlooked him. It’s a glaring omission, one that feels like an injustice to a player who gave his heart and soul to his team and the fans. While accolades might have eluded him, the admiration and gratitude of the Ngezi faithful have not. Kudzai Chigwida is more than just a defender; he is a symbol of what it means to wear the badge with pride. His passion, work ethic, and resilience epitomize the spirit of Ngezi Platinum Stars. He made us believe, made us dream, and made us proud. To Kudzai Chigwida, thank you for the good season. You may not have a trophy with your name on it this year, but in the hearts of the fans, you are and always will be a champion. This season belonged to you as much as anyone else, and we can’t wait to see you back stronger, hungrier, and ready to lead again. Keep shining, Kudzai.

Biden’s Pardon of Own Son Stinks Of Corruption – Mavaza

CORRUPTION OR LLEGAL DUTY. PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN PARDONS HIS SON.

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | President Biden pardons his son Hunter Biden clearing him of all criminal convictions. This means Hunter Biden has no criminal convictions.
The decision, which was first reported by NBC News, is a reversal for the president, who repeatedly said he would not use his authority to pardon his son or commute his sentence.
This contradicts his earlier statement. However in pardoning his son Biden said
“I believe in the justice system, but as I have wrestled with this, I also believe raw politics has infected this process and it led to a miscarriage of justice — and once I made this decision this weekend, there was no sense in delaying it further. I hope Americans will understand why a father and a President would come to this decision,”
Hunter Biden was scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 12 for his conviction on federal gun charges. He also was set to be sentenced on Dec. 16 in a separate criminal case in which he pleaded guilty to federal tax evasion charges in September.
The president issued a “full and unconditional pardon” for any offenses Hunter Biden has “committed or may have committed or taken part in during the period from January 1, 2014 through December 1, 2024,” according to the White House statement.
A senior White House official told NBC News, which was the first to report on the pardon decision, that the president decided over the weekend to grant his son a pardon and began to inform his senior aides Sunday.

The president also spoke about his son’s struggles with addiction in his statement Sunday night, saying that his political opponents were trying to “break” him by going after Hunter.

“No reasonable person who looks at the facts of Hunter’s cases can reach any other conclusion than Hunter was singled out only because he is my son — and that is wrong,” Biden said in his statement. “There has been an effort to break Hunter — who has been five and a half years sober, even in the face of unrelenting attacks and selective prosecution. In trying to break Hunter, they’ve tried to break me — and there’s no reason to believe it will stop here. Enough is enough.”
In a separate statement, Hunter Biden said he had “admitted and taken responsibility for my mistakes during the darkest days of my addiction — mistakes that have been exploited to publicly humiliate and shame me and my family for political sport.”
Despite all of this, I have maintained my sobriety for more than five years because of my deep faith and the unwavering love and support of my family and friends,” he added. “In the throes of addiction, I squandered many opportunities and advantages. In recovery we can be given the opportunity to make amends where possible and rebuild our lives if we never take for granted the mercy that we have been afforded. I will never take the clemency I have been given today for granted and will devote the life I have rebuilt to helping those who are still sick and suffering.”
A representative for Special Counsel David Weiss did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Hunter Biden’s attorney Abbe Lowell declined to comment.

Steven Cheung, a spokesman for President-elect Donald Trump, said, “The failed witch hunts against President Trump have proven that the Democrat-controlled DOJ and other radical prosecutors are guilty of weaponizing the justice system. That system of justice must be fixed and due process must be restored for all Americans, which is exactly what President Trump will do as he returns to the White House with an overwhelming mandate from the American people.”
Biden, 82, is using his pardon power to ensure Hunter Biden does not spend time in jail as he nears the end of his term in the White House and has no future election to face. In recent months, he has said he would not pardon his son or commute his sentence.
“I will not pardon him,” he said in June after a jury found Hunter Biden guilty on three federal gun charges.
The president has discussed pardoning his son with some of his closest aides at least since Hunter Biden’s conviction in June, said two people with direct knowledge of the discussions about the matter. They said it was decided at the time that he would publicly say he would not pardon his son even though doing so remained on the table.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre recently told reporters that Biden’s position has not changed.

“We’ve been asked that question multiple times. Our answer stands, which is ‘no,’” she said.
Asked last week whether the president is still committed to not granting clemency for his son, White House spokesperson Andrew Bates said: “The president has spoken to this.” Pressed about whether Biden’s position has changed, Bates replied, “I don’t have anything to add what he said already.”
First lady Jill Biden has also said her husband would not pardon their son.

“Joe and I both respect the judicial system, and that’s the bottom line,” she said in an interviewin June.
Hunter Biden’s criminal trial in June was the first involving the child of a sitting president.
Pardoning him after that trial would have ignited a political firestorm for his father, who was campaigning for re-election. Republicans have for years attacked Hunter Biden over his foreign business dealings and accused him and the president of corruption. They have also argued that Hunter Biden was getting special treatment by the Justice Department because of his father’s political power.

GOP criticism reached a peak in July 2023 when Hunter Biden pleaded guilty in a deal with federal prosecutors over the tax and gun charges, which collapsed after a judge raised questions about it. That development led Attorney General Merrick Garland a couple weeks later to appoint the U.S. attorney investigating Hunter Biden, David Weiss, as a special counsel.

Joe Biden dropped out of the presidential race in July, but a pardon before last month’s election also could have generated political blowback on the candidacy of Vice President Kamala Harris after she took his place on the Democratic ticket.
Together, the 12 counts Hunter Biden is convicted of or has pleaded guilty to carry a maximum prison sentence of 42 years. But the maximum sentences typically are not given out for convictions of these crimes. The Justice Department has said, for instance, that while the tax charges carry a maximum sentence of 17 years, sentences are typically less than that.
Asked in an interview in June whether he would rule out a pardon for his son, Biden answered, “Yes.”
Days later, after Hunter Biden was convicted on federal gun charges by a jury in his hometown of Wilmington, Delaware, the president said in a statement that he would respect the outcome. He then told reporters he would abide by the jury’s decision.

“I’m extremely proud of my son Hunter,” Biden said. “He has overcome an addiction. He’s one of the brightest, most decent men I know, and I am satisfied that I’m not going to do anything. I said I abide by the jury decision. I will do that, and I will not pardon him.”
Joseph Ziegler, an IRS case agent who became a whistleblower in the Hunter Biden tax probe, told NBC News last year that he opened the investigation himself after seeing bank records that suggested Hunter Biden was paying prostitutes and spending lavishly out of a corporate bank account. Ziegler said politics played no role in his decision to open the case.
“I’m a 38-year-old gay man,” he said. “My politics are simple. I am a Democrat.”
Neil Eggleston, who was White House counsel to President Barack Obama, told NBC News on Monday that “if I were his White House counsel, I would encourage him to pardon his son.” He said he has not been contacted or consulted by the White House about any pardon preparations.
“The clemency power has few limitations and certainly would extend to a Hunter Biden pardon,” Eggleston said.
Eggleston’s opinion echoes that of other former Justice Department and White House officials previously involved in presidential pardons who told NBC News that they thought Biden should exercise this power in advance of the incoming Trump administration.
The pardoning of his son would have been regarded as corruption if it was done in Zimbabwe. The opposition would be calling it weaponising the law or their favourite word lawfare.

Warning of Excruciating Heat Wave

By A Correspondent

A severe heat wave is set to hit Southern Africa starting tomorrow, bringing temperatures ranging from 40-45°C, particularly in Zimbabwe, South Africa, Mozambique, and Malawi. This intense heat is expected to persist both during the day and night, potentially becoming the most extreme heatwave in the region’s history, with numerous temperature records likely to be broken.

The Meteorological Services Department of Zimbabwe has issued a warning, stating that “the dry spell that is currently affecting the country is expected to continue, causing hot conditions over much of the country.”

In light of the extreme temperatures, the public has been urged to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids, especially water. “People have also been implored to stay under shade or use umbrellas when travelling,” the department added. The expected scorching heat is anticipated to significantly affect daily life, and the authorities are emphasizing the importance of taking protective measures to safeguard public health.

Khama Billiat has expressed his gratitude to the government for their generous support towards the Zimbabwe national football team.

Each player in the Warriors squad received $6,500 as a bonus for securing qualification to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals.

The financial reward was presented by President Emmerson Mnangagwa during a special Congratulatory Ceremony at the State House in Harare.

Reflecting on the gesture, Billiat, who made his return to the national team this year, stated: “We’re thrilled to be here and to receive recognition from the president, who has shown us great support and love.”

He added, “We deeply appreciate this, and the backing we’ve received is incredible.”

Zimbabwe secured their place in the AFCON finals after finishing second in Group J, behind Cameroon and ahead of Kenya and Namibia.

This qualification marks the Warriors’ return to the prestigious tournament after missing out on the last edition due to a FIFA ban.
