By A Correspondent- The Zanu PF government on Monday backtracked from destroying people’s houses in the country, including in Harare, Chitungwiza and Melfort in Mashonaland East province.
Local authorities in Harare, Chitungwiza and Goromonzi, with the assistance of the police, have, on orders from the government, been demolishing illegal structures, leaving many people homeless and also destroying their sources of income since three weeks ago.
However, yesterday, the ruling party summoned Local Government and Public Works minister July Moyo and the National Housing and Amenities minister Daniel Garwe to the party headquarters for a hastily arranged meeting and ordered a stop to the destruction with immediate effect.
“We summoned the two ministers responsible for urban planning and that of national housing, July Moyo and Daniel Garwe, respectively. We want to put it on record that Garwe came for the meeting while Moyo was spoken to on the phone and he agreed to the outcome of the meeting,” Zanu PF secretary for administration Obert Mpofu told a Press conference.
He said Zanu PF was concerned with the “inhumane” demolition of properties in the affected areas.
“There have been ongoing demolitions in Mashonaland East province, Harare and Chitungwiza, leading to unwarranted loss of shelter and sources of income for our people. The party’s first secretary and President Emmerson Mnangagwa and all party officials uphold the right to shelter and human dignity. We, therefore, order that the current demolitions should stop forthwith.”
Mpofu said the party would hold a meeting today to decide how to compensate those affected by the demolitions.
“We are going to have a meeting tomorrow (today). It’s an all-stakeholders meeting that is aimed at resolving the matter. We will do it after the Cabinet meeting. We need to solve this matter, which has affected our people, urgently,” he said.
Thousands of home-seekers and informal traders have been affected by the demolition of houses, and the government has been blaming the MDC Alliance-led councils, while the opposition, in turn, blames the government for the chaos.
“This decision is binding even to the government. Government is a Zanu PF government, that’s why ministers of the various sectors here and the president of the party is the President of the country. There are no contradictions, we are talking of things happening under our government,” Mpofu said.
However, documents seen by NewsDay show that Zanu PF had initially okayed the Melfort project, whose houses were demolished last week.
Apparently, the developer and the residents were ordered to vacate the area after losing a court battle six months ago, but were defiant.
The ministry wrote to Eastwinds Properties, which was developing the area, on September 22 last year instructing the firm to immediately stop selling any more land to home-seekers and to discontinue all developments until all legal matters were resolved.
Close to 1 000 people, among them war veterans and people living with disabilities, were left counting losses after the Goromonzi Rural District Council (RDC) demolished their houses.
The Melfort stands project, popularly known as Diamond Park, attracted the interest of government with the National Housing ministry leading efforts to transform the area into a smart city.

By A Correspondent- The surging cases of Covid-19 has forced the Premier Soccer League to postpone the Chibuku Super Cup tie between ZPC Kariba and Harare City.
The match was set for the National Sports Stadium on Wednesday.
In a statement, the PSL said the decision was taken to allow the affected individuals to comply with Covid-19 protocols regarding self-isolation. “This serves to advise that the Chibuku Super Cup match between ZPC Kariba FC and Harare City FC has been postponed to Wednesday 7 July 2021. This has been necessitated by the need for ZPC Kariba FC players and officials to comply with Covid-19 protocols regarding self-isolation. We remind the clubs to strictly adhere to the Covid-19 protocols,” reads the PSL statement.
Reports last week indicated that five members of the ZPC Kariba technical team tested positive following a round of tests.
It’s not known how many players tested positive, but it could be two or more based on the PSL’s announcement last week that if a minimum of seven members of one team test positive, the match will be postponed to a later date.
By A Correspondent-Police details in Bulawayo have arrested two suspects for masquerading as police officers and extorting cash from their victims.
According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Twitter page, the pair was arrested last week Friday at the Centenary Park. The suspects approached two complainants and apprehended them for not wearing masks after purporting to be police officers.
They further threatened to escort the complainants to Bulawayo Central Police Station before extorting R100 from them. Police officers who were on patrol noticed the incident and arrested the suspects.
“Members of the public are urged to be on the alert and be wary of individuals who masquerade as police officers.”
Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Ahmed Mido believes the upcoming CAF Champions League final between Al Ahly and Kaizer Chiefs will be the easiest for the Red Devils in their history in the competition.

Health experts have warned the government against “force-marching” people to take vaccines saying the approach will trigger resistance from the citizenry.
They speak after President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s “no-one will escape being vaccinated” remarks have been interpreted to mean that vaccination was mandatory.
Community Working Group on Health executive director Itai Rusike said even in a crisis situation like COVID-19, governments must respect human rights and urged the government to increase vaccine literacy and awareness. He said:
What is important is for government to scale up information dissemination and convince the general public to appreciate why they need to be vaccinated because taking up vaccines should be done willingly by people with COVID-19 vaccine literacy.
Force-marching people to take vaccines will not result in high uptake, but in resistance and by imposing vaccines, the country may lose its vaccination programme gains where it is considered highly by other countries in the region.
Threatening people by saying it will be compulsory will infringe on their human rights and it does not make sense to do so when the country does not have adequate vaccines in Bulawayo and Harare at the moment and there are several people who got their first jab, but are failing to get the second dose.
Medical and Dental Private Practitioners of Zimbabwe Association president Johannes Marisa said Mnangagwa was just trying to relay the message that it is important for everyone to get vaccinated. He added:
It is unfortunate but people cannot be forced to take vaccines as everyone has their own rights. If really government compels people to get vaccinated, then I foresee heaps of litigation papers in a short time.
The government has so far approved Chinese vaccines Sinovac and Sinopharm, Russian jab Sputnik V, and India’s Covaxin.- NewsDay

Knowledge Musona has completed a move to Saudi Pro Professional League side Al-Tai FC.
Founded in 1961, the club is based in Ha’il, a city in the northwest of the country. It uses the 12,000 capacity seater Prince Abdul Aziz bin Musa’ed Stadium for home games. The venue is shared with city rivals Al-Jabalain, who remained in the second tier.
Al-Tai, nicknamed Knight of The North, played in the lower division last season but gained promotion after finishing third in the MS League. They will compete in the top flight for the first time since the 2007–08 season.
The team’s coach is 46-year old Tunisian gaffer Mohamed Kouki who took over the reins in November 2020.
The club so far has two foreign players registered ahead of the 2021/22 season, including Musona and Bulgarian goalkeeper Martin Lukov. The campaign is scheduled to start in August and runs until May next year. – Soccer24 Zimbabwe
Belgian side Anderlecht have announced the departure of Warriors captain Knowledge Musona, who will now join Saudi Arabian side Al-Tai FC.
“Knowledge Musona will play for Al-Tai FC next season,” announced the club via a statement.

By A Correspondent- A 30 year old Mutare taxi driver betrayed the trust bestowed on him and allegedly raped his girlfriend’s teenage sister after promising to marry her as her sister had moved to Harare.
Jestinos Mafovho was not asked to plead to the rape charges when he appeared before Mutare magistrate, Miss Prisca Tendai Manhibi, last week on Saturday.
He was, however, remanded in custody to June 28.
He is being charged with rape as defined in Section 65 (1) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23. Mr Chris Munyuki represented the State.
The incident came to light after the 17-year-old revealed the matter to her employer in Palmerstone shortly after the alleged rapist’s departure. The State alleged that on June 1, Mafovho called the complainant telling her that he wanted to see his girlfriend.
All the complainant told him that her sister was now based in Harare, Mafovho proceeded to visit her in Palmerstone. She took him to her bedroom and Mafovho told her that he wanted to marry her.
He proposed love to her, but she refused. She also turned down his sexual advances and he proceeded to rape her.
“Mafovho raped the complainant once and left,” said Mr Munyuki.
The complainant reported the matter to her employer.
She was taken to the police where she was referred to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital for tests and further management.
A medical report proving that the complainant was raped was produced in court as an exhibit. Meanwhile, a 19-year-old Marange man also appeared in court for allegedly waylaying and raping a 14-year-old vendor.
Witness Chapeyama allegedly took some groundnuts from the minor’s basket and asked her to follow him so that she could collect her money.
When she refused, he dragged her into a bush and raped her. When she tried to scream, Chapeyama stashed sand into her mouth.
He only fled after a man arrived at the scene and caught him in the act. Chapeyama also appeared before Ms Manhibi and was not asked to plead to the rape charges.
He was denied bail and remanded in custody to June 28.
By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) has written to the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) requesting an extension of the registration deadline for the 2021 GCE Ordinary and Advanced Level examinations to allow candidates to obtain their national identity cards. ZLHR said in a statement:
We have written to ZIMSEC requesting for an extension of the registration deadline for the 2021 O & A Level examinations to allow candidates to obtain their national identity cards.
We have also asked ZIMSEC to consider waiving the requirement that candidates sitting for the 2021 O & A Level examinations produce their ID’s and for purposes of identity verification, schools can have recourse to their school identification cards.
Lastly, our lawyer Tinashe Chinox has asked for assurance from ZIMSEC that learners who failed to obtain their national ID’s through no fault of their own, will be allowed to register and sit for their examinations subject to the identity verifications we have proposed.
Tens of thousands of students in all parts of the country who are set to sit for public examinations in November this year do not have IDs that are required for them to register for the examinations.
The government cancelled a special exercise by the Civil Registry Department to allow the students to acquire national identification documents on Saturday, 26 June and Sunday, 27 June 2021 due to COVID-19 fears.
In May, ZIMSEC said the deadline for normal registration is 9 July 2021 and for late entries is 30 July 2021.
However, late entries attract fines of ZWL$1 978.00 per subject for O’ Level students, while A’ Level students will pay ZWL$2 952.00 per subject for late registration.

By A Correspondent- Bulawayo City Council (BCC) has allocated US$200 000 to rehabilitate open pits which were left open over the years during infrastructural construction and those dug by sand poachers harming the environment and creating death traps, especially for children.
In February, a 15-year-old Pelandaba West boy drowned in an abandoned pit.
The pits have also been a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
This came out during the Environmental Management Agency (Ema) media tour to spotlight solid waste management and ecosystem protection in Bulawayo.
BCC Roads Operations Engineer Mr Lookout Ndlovu said all pits will be rehabilitated to restore the environment and prevent accidents that have been happening.
“We are rehabilitating gravel pits where we used to get material for infrastructure development like housing and road construction to develop the city. We are now filling up the pits that are deep so that water can flow to nearby streams and not collect.
“We have been doing this programme since early this year and we are using spoil material that was left when we excavated the land to cover the pits. The rehabilitation of Pumula started in May and progress is about 15 percent,” he said.
Mr Ndlovu said rehabilitation of the Pelandaba site which was over four hectares big where the drowning incident happened has been successfully rehabilitated.
He said BCC has mapped all the open pits in the city using the Geographic Information System with all of them earmarked for rehabilitation so that the land is put to productive use.
Speaking at the same occasion, another BCC official Mrs Sehlile Ndlovu said once the land has been rehabilitated, it can be used for recreation purposes. “The extraction of gravel is a necessity even though it causes land degradation for road rehabilitation. As town planning, we demarcate several sites such that when a site gets decommissioned, it should be rehabilitated so that we move to the next for gravel extraction,” she said.
Environmental protection officer Mr Sobhuku Dube said the city has opened two sites in Mazwi Village in Khami and Luveve where people can buy sand legally.
“We conduct educational campaigns all over the city to ensure that land is protected and people collect sand from registered sites. To completely restore the area we need vegetation, so we are encouraging the residents to restore the degraded area where they see the need,” said Mrs Ndlovu.
Ema Bulawayo Provincial Manager Mrs Sithembisiwe Ndlovu said there is need for stakeholders to come together to end the problem of illegal sand poachers and illegal mining.
“We have a problem of illegal mining and illegal poachers and the impact is land degradation, but we are saying yes we have the problem but what are we doing? This is what the city is doing in terms of ecosystem restoration. We encourage all the players, all institutions and residents to focus on ecosystem restoration,” she said.
The media also visited a plastic recycling plant done by Chasdiel Investments where they were taken through the process of plastic recycling.
Mrs Ndlovu said waste recycling is an important process which creates employment as well as increases the lifespan of landfills.
“If we manage to separate our waste and recycle what is recyclable, we will reduce the amount of waste that is being dumped into the environment as it will be brought here for recycling and extends the lifespan of our landfills,” she said.
BCC Cleansing Superintendent Mr Nkanyiso Ndlovu said the community refuse removal project where council involves trucks from community members to collect refuse is paying dividends as it has seen the city reducing its costs.
He said the city now uses few of its refuse compactors which just wait for refuse to be delivered by the community trucks at pick up points before delivering at the landfill.
BCC corporate communication manager Mrs Nesisa Mpofu said they are extending the programme to all areas in the city.
“The city has invited members of the community that own trucks that range between 3 to 7 tonnes to submit expressions of interest to the city for residential areas in the low-density areas and other high-density areas such as Nguboyenja, Barboufields, Makokoba and Mzilikazi.
We want to roll out the programme to all areas of the city. The city compactors will focus on the CBD and institutions,” she said.
Riot Police yesterday evening besieged the Marova homestead in Mabvuku and disrupted funeral proceedings.
Besides malice and abuse of power, there is no clear reason as to why the regime could send heavily armed police details to disrupt a funeral where all Covid-19 protocols are being observed.
It is sad that last night’s disruption follows just a few hours after Netsai Marova was arrested, detained and released for no crime at all.
It is clear that Netsai Marova is being victimized for exposing Emmerson Mnangagwa’s regime following her abduction together with Joana Mamombe and Cecilia Chimbiri by state agents in May last year.

By A Correspondent- A South African travel agent is reportedly raking hundreds of thousands of rands by bringing South Africans to Zimbabwe for COVID-19 vaccination in a scheme that involves some local government officials and a local private hospital.
The travel agent, The Boyz Travel Merchants, is charging R8 423 per individual for their clients to travel to Harare to get the jabs from a private hospital, HealthPoint, owned by Peter Annesley, reported NewsDay.
The hospital is located in Belgravia, a short distance from Harare’s Central Business District.
It is alleged that clients travel to Harare with an early morning flight, and then take the return flight to South Africa in the afternoon.
Boyz Travel Merchants recently suspended the programme for two weeks due to a shortage of COVID-19 vaccines in Zimbabwe. The agent’s representative Jan Engelbrecht Klitzke was quoted as saying:
It was actually put to a stop today (Friday), we have just received communication from the hospital, they say that vaccines are running dry and they have not received sufficient stock, so they are obviously keeping them for local citizens right now.
Klitzke said their programme mainly targeted tourists who wanted to be vaccinated.
A COVID-19 jab at HealthPoint costs US$100 per shot, while Zimbabwe has been buying Sinovac vaccines from China at US$10 a shot.
Last week, the hospital put out a statement that it was suspending the scheme because of low vaccine stocks. The statement read:
Greetings to the HealthPoint community. HealthPoint regrets to be the bearer of bad news, but we have just been advised that the current Sinovac vaccine stocks are running extremely low.
Consequently, first ‘shots’ are being suspended as at end of day tomorrow (Saturday June 26, 2021).
All remaining stock has to be set aside to ensure availability of second shots to those who are already in the HealthPoint system.
HealthPoint is eagerly awaiting additional stocks from government, which were scheduled to arrive in the country last week.
Please ask whoever needs to be vaccinated to come tomorrow, otherwise HealthPoint foresees, subject to logistics, a seven to 14-day break in the HealthPoint vaccination programme. Any inconvenience is sincerely regretted.
HealthPoint did not respond to questions from NewsDay on how they were accessing COVID-19 vaccines and the number of foreigners that they had inoculated so far.
When contacted for comment by the publication, COVID-19 national taskforce chief coordinator Agnes Mahomva referred questions to the Finance ministry, which facilitates the importation of vaccines.
The ministry, however, did not respond to questions from NewsDay.
By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe National Family Planning Council (ZNFPC) has introduced a new contraceptive called Sayana Press.
The new contraceptive, which is manufactured in Belgium, is an injection that should be administered every 13 weeks.
Unlike, Depo-Provera which must be injected by a health care provider, Sayana Press can be self-administered at home.
The other difference between the two injections is that Depo-Provera is injected into a muscle, usually in the buttocks or in the arm, while Sayana Press is injected beneath the skin at the front of the thigh or abdomen.
ZNFPC executive director Dr Munyaradzi Murwira said the rollout has since begun.
He said:
It is safe and has been approved by the Medicines Control Authority of Zimbabwe (MCAZ).
It is currently registered and approved by regulatory authorities in more than 50 countries worldwide, including in Europe and the USA.
By A Correspondent- The demolitions of “illegal” structures continued barely hours after the ruling ZANU PF party announced that it had put a stop to the ongoing blitz.
On Monday ZANU PF Secretary for Administration Obert Mpofu said that the party and its leadership are against the ongoing demolitions being carried out by councils.
Mpofu made the remarks during a media briefing after meeting Local Government and Public Works Minister July Moyo and National Housing and Social Amenities Minister Daniel Garwe. He said:
The party and its President and First Secretary Cde Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa, as well as the entirety of leadership, uphold the right to shelter and human dignity.
As such, the current wanton demolitions in urban and peri-urban areas must stop forthwith while the processes to resolve the associated challenges are in motion.
An all stakeholders meeting will be convened soon to discuss similar matters in areas affected.
However, this Tuesday, Harare City Council razed down some structures at Glenview 8 complex that allegedly encroached road servitudes.
The local authority destroyed all illegal structures along Willowvale Road starting from the Willowvale and Highglen traffic intersection.
MIGRAINE What You Need to Know About Migraine and Seizures Sometimes migraine and seizure occur in the same person, but sometimes it’s just difficult to tell which a person is experiencing.

When migraine symptoms don’t respond to migraine therapies, it may worth considering whether the person is really having seizures.Adobe Stock Migraine attacks and seizures are both events related to the brain, but exactly how the two are related to each other is something that experts are still trying to unravel.
“There times when a patient experiences an event, and it’s not immediately apparent if they’ve had a seizure or a migraine,” says Lauren Doyle Strauss, DO, a headache specialist and an assistant professor at Wake Forest Baptist Health in Winston Salem, North Carolina.
“That’s because there can be an overlap in some of the ways that people describe both of those problems,” Dr. Strauss explains.
There is evidence that the two disorders are associated with each other: The prevalence of migraine in children with epilepsy — which causes seizures — is estimated at 8 to 24 percent, which is approximately double the risk found in the general population, according to a paper published in the Journal of Headache and Pain.
What Is Migralepsy? Migralepsy is an older term that has been used to describe when a person has both migraine and epilepsy, says Strauss. The term was first used in a paper published in 1960 to describe a condition in which “ophthalmic migraine with perhaps nausea and vomiting was followed by symptoms characteristic of epilepsy,” according to a paper published in the Journal of Headache Pain.
This type of seizure, which is triggered by a migraine attack with aura, is considered a rare but real complication of migraine, according to the International Headache Society (ICHD-3).
A Seizure Can Be Part of Epilepsy or Migraine To better understand the connection between migraine and seizures, it’s helpful to understand what a seizure is, says Strauss. “You could describe it as a sudden surge of electrical activity in the brain,” she says.
Johns Hopkins Medicine defines a seizure as “a burst of uncontrolled electrical activity between brain cells (also called neurons or nerve cells) that causes temporary abnormalities in muscle tone or movements (stiffness, twitching, or limpness), behaviors, sensations, or states of awareness.”
People are diagnosed with epilepsy after they have had two or more unprovoked seizures, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Seizures Are Different Depending on Where They Occur in the Brain There are two categories of seizures: generalized seizures, which affect both sides of the brain, and focal seizures (also called partial seizures), which take place is just one part of the brain, according to the CDC.
Depending on which part of the brain is affected, that’s the area that will manifest symptoms, explains Strauss.
“For example, if the area of the brain that controls your language is affected, then that makes sense that your language may not be normal during the seizure. It could cause you to stutter or have trouble with your words,” she says. Similarly, if someone had a seizure in the area of the brain that controls your vision, that may correlate with visual symptoms, says Strauss.
Just because the seizure begins in one part of the brain doesn’t mean it stays there. “A seizure can start in one area of the brain and can quickly spread to other areas or across the entire brain,” she says.
People can experience a seizure in a lot of different ways, says Strauss. “You can have a change in your awareness; others may notice that you’re staring. You may have amnesia, where you forget or are unaware there’s been a change in your surroundings, or you don’t even know that a seizure happened,” she says.
“Your whole body can shake — that’s called a grand mal seizure, and it’s often what people think about when they when they think of seizure. You can also have shaking in one arm or just one leg,” says Strauss.
Can a Migraine Attack Cause Someone to Have a Seizure?
“We don’t fully understand what provokes a migraine and what provokes a seizure; it could be possible that something provokes both,” says Strauss.
Headaches can occur on their own and be unrelated to seizures, or a headache can be a symptom that happens before, during, or after a seizure, says Strauss. “We use the terms ‘preictal,’ which is before the seizure, ‘ictal,’ which is during the seizure, and ‘postictal,’ which is after the seizure,” she says.
Preictal and ictal headaches are relatively rare and usually don’t last long, according to the Epilepsy Foundation. Headaches that occur after a seizure are more common. A survey of 372 patients attending an epilepsy clinic found that 45 percent of them had experienced a postictal headache, and more than 1 in 5 always had one.
Is It a Migraine Attack or a Seizure? “If a person is having migraine symptoms that aren’t responding to migraine therapies, and they have neurologic symptoms associated with the headaches, it’s reasonable to take a step back and say, ‘Are we sure these are migraines?’” says Strauss.
If you have a grand mal seizure, it’s usually clear that it’s a seizure, she says. “However, with focal seizures or partial seizures or complex partial seizures, these more subtle seizures where it’s only affecting one part of the brain, it can be difficult to always know…

Tinashe Sambiri|Former Zanu PF MP for Chivi South, Killer Zivhu has lashed out at the new dispensation arguing the current administration is full of thieves.
Although Zivhu did not take aim at the Zanu PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa himself, he pointed out that the regime cannot achieve anything tangible because of rampant looting and corruption.
Zivhu argues Zanu PF bigwigs are stealing State resources in Mr Mnangagwa’s name.
“ED needs practical people for vision 2030 to be successful not mashura atinoona . Ari kuitwa nevanozviti ma die hard avo mukuru.
Vakawanda vacho vanoba nezita romukuru kwete kuti vanomuda but they want to enrich themselves using his name and their proximity to him,” argued Zivhu.
However, the MDC Alliance argues Zivhu is partially correct because Mr Mnangagwa himself is ” the architect of looting.”
“Mr Mnangagwa himself is the architect of looting, ” argued a senior MDC Alliance official.
Retired army Major General Samson Sikhulile Nyathi yesterday wept in court alleging that his life was in danger as his spouse was always abusing him.
Nyathi appeared before Harare magistrate Evelyn Mashavakure on a domestic violence matter, where he was accusing his wife, Noleen Nyathi, of always abusing him.
He begged Mashavakure not to throw away the domestic violence case, saying that he was living in a zoo.
Nyathi said at one time, his wife poured hot cooking oil on him and at one time, assaulted him with a shoe.
Despite the allegations, magistrate Mashavakure removed the wife from remand saying the docket was incomplete as it did not include a warned and-cautioned statement for the accused.
“Your worship, I am a blind man. My life is in danger because of my spouse. I am living like in a zoo your worship. I have been to police on several occasions, but nothing materialises,” Nyathi said in court.
“If you release her, my life will be in serious danger. I cannot live a peaceful life without her being restrained.”
He said he had even approached different organisations for assistance to no avail.
Noleen’s lawyer Job Sikhala said the court had done well by removing her from remand, adding that constitutionally, a trial could not take place without a warned-and-cautioned statement from the accused.
Sikhala said a person could not be charged twice on the same facts.
The matter was then removed from remand and will proceed by way of summons.
Zimbabwe national football team captain, Knowledge Musona has joined Saudi Arabian football club Al-Tai from Belgian side Anderlecht.
Musona’s move ends speculation about his future with the 31-year-old striker having spent the better part of his contract with the Belgian side on loan to other teams.
The Warriors captain, who was in the last year of his contract with Anderlecht, was initially linked with a move back to South Africa where his former club Kaizer Chiefs and champions Mamelodi Sundowns were among the suitors.
Al-tai were promoted into the Saudi Arabia top flight at the end of last season and Musona is expected to lead their attack as they gun for glory.
By A Correspondent- The South African Constitutional Court on Tuesday, in a majority ruling, found former president Jacob Zuma in contempt of court and sentenced him to prison for 15 months for violating the authority of the court and repeatedly attacking the dignity of the judiciary.
He has five days to present himself to either the Nkandla police station or one in Johannesburg, the court said.
In a judgment penned and delivered by acting Deputy Chief Justice Sisi Khampepe, it was said that the court had a duty to punish not only Zuma’s defiance of its order to comply with summons to testify before the Zondo commission, but his casual and “scandalous” attacks on the courts.
It would be naive to believe that handing down a suspended sentence, aimed at still bringing him to testify, would have the desired effect, Khampepe said.
In fact, it only posed the likely risk of the former head of state redoubling his efforts to undermine the rule of law.
“It defies logic to believe that a suspended sentence would have any effect other than to prolong his defiance and to signal dangerously that impunity is to be enjoyed by those who defy court orders,” Khampepe said.
She said although the case and its circumstances were exceptional, it would be wrong to think that the majority was writing legal precedent with its sentence. It was simply applying the law and doing so evenly.
“It is disturbing that he who twice sought allegiance to the republic, its laws and its constitution has sought to ignore, undermine and in many ways destroy the rule of law altogether,” she said.
“In taking stock of the cumulative effect of these exceptional circumstances, the majority finds that it must grant an order that will vindicate the court’s order and protect and maintain public confidence in the legitimacy of the judiciary.
“Accordingly the only appropriate sanction is a direct, unsuspended order of imprisonment, because the alternative would be to effectively sentence the legitimacy of the judiciary to inevitable decay,” Khampepe said.
The majority judgment seeks not only to punish Zuma for failing to obey the court’s order in January that he heed directives from the commission to testify, but his sustained efforts to impugn the courts. These were aggravating factors, she said, as was his failure to file submissions to the court despite invitation to do so.
Khampepe said the public had an interest in Zuma appearing before the commission; it also had equal, if not greater, interest in the protection of the rule of law and the dignity of the courts.
ESwatini acting prime minister Themba Masuku says King Mswati has not fled as widely reported, but is in the country monitoring the ongoing civil disturbances and instability in his troubled nation.
Masuku says government has made some interventions and update the nation later.
South Africa Constitutional Court has sentenced former President Jacob Zuma to 15 months in prison for contempt of court.
Justice Sisi Khampepe read out the judgment on Tuesday, which found that Zuma was fully aware of the consequences of his actions and willfully defied the court’s order to appear before the Zondo Commission.
“The majority holds that a coercive order which uses the threat of imprisonment to ensure compliance will be both futile and inappropriate,” Khampepe said.
She said there was “no sound basis” for Zuma to claim that he was being unfairly treated.
“The majority finds itself with no choice but to find that this kind of incalcitrance cannot be tolerated,” Khampepe read.
She pointed out that Zuma’s case was exceptional because of his position as a former president as well as his criticism of the judiciary.
The ConCourt justices strongly condemned Zuma’s “outlandish statements” and found that the only reasonable sentence was an unsuspended sentence of 15 months imprisonment.
The ConCourt ruled that Zuma must hand himself over to police at either Nkandla police station or Johannesburg Central within 5 calendar days to commence serving his sentence.
Meanwhile, Zuma’s supporters secured his Nkandla home ahead of Tuesday’s judgment. The MKMVA (Umkhonto we Sizwe Military Veterans Association) battalion that has been stationed outside the rural home since late March was in high spirits.
They were heard singing Struggle songs from the tent they use as their base. Some of them were seen outside parading.
Zuma’s most vocal son, Edward Zuma, did not say anything about the pending sentencing.
Zuma’s run-in with the court started in December last year when the Zondo Commission, which is probing allegations of corruption during his nine-year rule, approached the court to ask it to compel him to appear and answer all questions posed to him.
The order was granted but Zuma decided to defy the court, alleging that the commission and the court were victimising him through exceptional and harsh treatment and that both institutions were politicising the law to his detriment.
The secretary of the commission, Professor Itumeleng Mosala, then asked the court to penalise him with contempt of court. On the same day, Zuma issued another long statement and said that he had taken a political position not to take part in the matter because the judiciary was engaged in political battles against him.
“It is no longer my attendance that they seek, but they have joined the political campaign to destroy me. It also reveals that this was always the commission’s mandate,” Zuma said at the time.
He said that Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo who chairs the commission was “exploiting his proximity to the Constitutional Court to protect and advance his interests as chairperson of the commission”.
When the matter was heard on March 25 this year, advocate Tembeka Ngcukayitobi, acting on behalf of the commission, asked the court to hand down a two-year sentence, arguing that Zuma had made serious allegations against the judiciary without any evidence to back them up.
” Basically he’s using the language of daring the court, ‘I’m not afraid to go to prison. Even prior to coming to the court in December 2020, the commission had tried to use its coercive powers. I know that there is criticism in the judgement, but he was given leeway that would not ordinarily be given to witnesses. But the fact is the coercive powers were tried, they didn’t work. The is no scope for coercive powers, the only scope that remains now is imprisonment. Utterances that Mr Zuma has made are malicious utterances. He is also acting without any facts – Mr Zuma completely disregards the evidence,” Ngcukayitobi told the court in March when arguing why Zuma should be jailed.
JOHANNESBURG – In a majority judgment, the Constitutional Court on Tuesday ruled former President Jacob Zuma was in contempt of court when he failed to appear and participate at the state capture inquiry.
Justice Sisi Khampepe read out the verdict on Tuesday morning.
In handing down that guilty verdict, Khampepe said never before had the authority and legitimacy of the Constitutional Court been subjected to the level of attacks posed by Zuma.
It was Zuma who instituted the State Capture Commission of Inquiry and it is he who has felt the full wrath of the commission for defying it.
Rewind to July 2019 when the former president first appeared before the commission. In his opening statement, he alleged that former SANDF commander Siphiwe Nyanda and former Cabinet Minister Ngoako Ramatlhodi were spies.
And then he spent the remainder of the two days, answering questions, but saying that he didn’t remember or didn’t know the answers until he ran out of time.
Commission chair Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo gave him a week to return in November 2019.
But Zuma then spent another year presenting reasons why he couldn’t appear, saying he was too unwell and was seeking medical attention abroad or he was preparing for his corruption trial.
He also added the COVID-19 pandemic to his reasons and said like other people of his age, doctors had advised him to stay at home.
And then the situation took a turn when Zuma’s lawyer said he wanted Zondo to recuse himself because he was biased due to their family ties.
Finally in September 2020, an irate Zondo set a date of 9 October for the commission’s legal team to make an application for a subpoena that would make it a criminal offence for the former president not to appear.
Zondo then issued a subpoena for Zuma to appear on 16 November to 20 November in 2020 and gave him the option to testify via video link.
Zuma did go but to hear his legal team argue that Zondo recuse himself. When Zondo ruled that he wouldn’t step down, Zuma left the commission before he was excused.
Zonda made an application to the Constitutional Court asking it to find that Zuma had violated the Constitution, and to issue an order compelling him to appear.
The court granted the order in January, but Zuma hit back, likening the court to the apartheid-era and accusing Zondo of making special rules for him, like the apartheid government did with the late PAC founder Robert Sobukwe. But again, Zuma was a no-show.\
A Harare woman has been arrested for being part of three suspects, two of them foreigners, believed to be part of a vehicle smuggling and carjacking syndicate operating in the SADC region.
The three suspects were recently arrested in Mainway Meadows in southern Harare after they were found in possession of two cars — a Range Rover Evoque (registration number HZ 33CN GP) and a Toyota Fortuner (JH 81 HR GP), worth a combined R1 million.
The vehicles are suspected to have been stolen in Namibia before being smuggled to South Africa and then Zimbabwe.
It is believed the suspects wanted to eventually smuggle the two cars into Zambia.
The suspects are a South African, Mpswati Obed Lucar (33), a Zimbabwean living in South Africa Brian Mabika (29) and a Zambian identified as SA Kalengo (36).
Police said Sikholisiwe Zondo (27) of Hatfield, Harare, is Brian Mabika’s wife.
It is alleged that sometime in May, Zondo went to C.E car rental in Namibia on the pretext that she wanted to hire the Toyota Fortuner which she promised to bring back.
She then drove the vehicle to South Africa while in the company of the three suspects where they tampered with the chassis numbers and fixed a fake registration number plate.
Investigations carried out by detectives from the CID Vehicle Theft Squad led to the arrest of Zondo.
Investigations revealed that the trio were allegedly part of a syndicate that had been robbing people of vehicles in the region before smuggling them to other countries for resale using fake documents.
The trio was arrested on Tuesday following a tip off and they are still in custody as investigations continue.
Detectives from the CID Vehicle Theft Squad received information that two vehicles were parked at a house in Mainway Meadows. When they arrived at the house, they found the two vehicles and the suspects whom they questioned but they failed to give a satisfactory answer, leading to their arrest.
Both the engine and chassis numbers were tampered with and police have since engaged Interpol to assist with investigations.
Meanwhile, police have arrested three suspected car thieves on allegations of stealing a Toyota Allion (AEM 2773) in Donview Park, Harare while it was parked during the night.
The three are Takudzwa Chuma (25) of Westlea, Johanne Mungawa (43) and Sheunesu Chuma (27) all of Epworth were arrested while intending to sell the car at a car sale along Robert Mugabe Way in Rhodesville area.
Police said the complainant parked his vehicle at his house and discovered the following morning that it was missing.
A report was made to the police and the complainant also informed his brother who is a policeman about the incident.
The brother carried out investigations and discovered that the vehicle was at the car sale, leading to the arrest of the suspects and recovering of the vehicle.
Investigations also revealed that the suspects had acquired a fake registration book for the vehicle.
The Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) has told off the Norton Based Chinese tile manufacturing company, Sunny Yi Feng Tiles (Zimbabwe) Pvt Ltd, to stop covering up its mistreatment and instead respect workers rights to warrant the respect of the labour body.
In a statement responding to accusations by the company that ZCTU was bullying it following exposes of workers’ rights abuses, ZCTU Secretary General Japhet Moyo said; “Instead of working on improving the situation at the company, the company went on to accuse the ZCTU of “bullying” and relying on so-called unreliable sources. It seems the company is more interested in protecting its ‘brand’ than the welfare of workers.”
The ZCTU exposed that workers at the company uses a system where it uses forklifts to carry workers who would have collapsed out of the factory, that workers are being paid $3 500 which is equivalent to around US$35-00 per month and that 16 employees shared a single room offered as company accommodation.
The company was incensed by the expositions and in a statement accused the ZCTU of damaging its reputation.
“The publications carry single stories from uninformed sources who, rather than being constructive, are more destructive to the image of the company. From the onset, the reports have been influenced by actions of conspiracy as a result of revenge distortion,” Alex Mukumba the company’s public relations officer said.
In response the ZCTU said; “The ZCTU together with its affiliate union visited the company following complaints from employees that a number of their counterparts have been injured, some killed, and women sometimes collapsed because of exposure to gas leaks. They also complained of workplace Gender based violence and violation of national legislation and International Labour Organisation (ILO) Convention 190 that deals with Violence and Harassment in the world of work. Workers also complained that their rights were constantly violated as most of them are paid less than the stipulated minimum wages/salaries. The workers said they remain under paid even after the National Employment Council ( NEC)’s ruling that they be paid according to stipulated minimum wages prescribed in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).”

By A Correspondent- Villagers from Gomana area in Zivhu Village were left shell shocked after remains (torso and head) believed to be that of a newly born baby were found being eaten by dogs at Mandiudza Homestead at 7am today.
Kudakwashe Zivhu who is the Village Head confirmed the shocking news to Two Nations in a telephone interview.
“Tangai Mandiudza woke up and found his puppy playing around with an object near a footpath and he became curious and upon approaching the place that is when he discovered that it was a newly born baby’s body. He informed others and they then covered the body with shrubs to stop dogs from further eating it. We then called the Police who came and collected the remains.
“This is shocking and we are busy looking for the culprit because it appears someone gave birth yesterday and dumped the baby. It is a sad incident in our village,” said Zivhu.
Two Nations was also informed that hordes of villagers gathered at the Mandiudza Homestead to catch a glimpse of the remains of the newly born baby whose gender had not been ascertained by the time of going to Press.
Masvingo Police spokesperson Inspector, Kudakwashe Dhewa said he had not received the report when approached by Two Nations for a comment.
Gogo Dorcas Zivhu who also spoke to Two Nations said she has never seen such an incident and called on authorities to leave no stone unturned in order to apprehend the culprit.
“This brings shame to our peaceful village, we only used to hear of such things happening in far away places but not from this area, it is shameful, children are a blessing from God, some are spending sleepless nights in order to have babies yet others are dumping them like this,” said Gogo Zivhu.
By Patrick Guramatunhu- Pressure is mounting on SA’s President Cyril Ramaphosa to contain the corona virus pandemic as he places the country back on a strict level-4 lockdown, with restrictions including a ban on all alcohol sales and gathering of more than 50, for the next 14 days.
The restrictions may then be extended further, pending a review of the situation.
“In considering what new measures we have to take we have drawn on international best practice. Our priority is to break the chain of transmission by reducing person-to-person contact, like we did with the first wave and the second wave,” said President Ramaphosa.
The only sure way to contain the corona virus pandemic is by vaccinating as many people as quickly as possible. SA’s vaccination programme must be one of the slowest amount the middle income nations! Indeed some of the poorest and corrupt nations like Zimbabwe are doing a hell lot better than SA!
Cyril Ramamposa is not corrupt, at least not as corrupt as Zuma, and Alas that is all one can say of him. At a lime like this, SA needed a visionary leader and find herself ruled by a man who does not even have common sense!
In Zimbabwe we have had the great misfortune of being stuck for 41 years and counting with corrupt, incompetent, murderous and vote rigging thugs. We had the opportunity to end the dictatorship but the corrupt and incompetent MDC sell-outs wasted it. To find oneself ruled by buffoons during devastating pandemic like this corona virus is the stuff of hell-on-earth!
Zimbabwe’s official per capita corona virus cases and deaths are infinitely better than those of SA but that in because Zimbabwe has not been testing for the virus. At the peak of the last wave, when SA was doing over 44 000 tests per day and Zimbabwe, with 1/4 SA’s population, should have been doing over 11 000 test. We very rarely did more than 1 500 test per day!
Zimbabwe’s real per capita corona virus cases and deaths are far worse than the Zanu PF regime is letting on.
SA’s health care system is basic in most cases but at least it is still there. Zimbabwe’s health care service has all but collapsed after decades of under funding. Most of the time health care workers are on strike, protesting their slave wages, and most have left the country in search of a living wage.
“The biggest referral hospital in Zimbabwe, Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals, cancelled 1 688 surgical operations in one year, owing to a lack of medical equipment,” reported Bridget Mananavire in The News Hawks last week.
“In her 2019 audit report on state enterprises and parastatals, Auditor-General Mildred Chiri said this may compromise health service delivery. She also found that during the year under review (2018) the hospital did not have adequate monitors in anaesthetic rooms and recovery areas, with only eight out of 18 stations in use.
“The hospital’s management, in response to the audit findings, said the cancellation of surgical operations had also been influenced by job action by the health sector, poor preparation of patients and shortage of intensive care unit (ICU) beds, among other challenges.”
If the referral hospitals have no equipment and staff, how much worse off are the provincial hospital, district hospitals, etc. If the health service can not deal with the run of the mill illnesses, they certainly cannot deal with the more demand corona virus cases. It is therefore not surprising that most hospitals in Zimbabwe have been sending away corona virus patients!
There is heavy human traffic, both legal and illegal, between Zimbabwe and SA. It must be said, most of the travellers are Zimbabweans. Ever since Zimbabwe’s dramatic economic collapse in 2000 to 2008, when inflation peak at 500 billion per cent, many Zimbabweans left the country for SA as political and/or economic refugees or worked as cross border vendors. And it is therefore not surprising that the corona virus pandemic outbreak in the two countries have been a mirror image one the other. The corona virus cases and deaths in the two countries should therefore be similar too.
According Johns Hopkins corona virus tracking report, as of today 28 June 2021 SA has 1 928 897 cases and 59 900 deaths and Zimbabwe, with 1/4 SA’s population, should have over 457 000 cases and 14 000 deaths. Johns Hopkins report says the country has 46 442 cases and 1 736 deaths; roughly 10%. What is really shocking is that many Zimbabweans have accepted the official Zanu PF figures as the truth, the whole truth and nothing but truth.
Whilst there is growing pressure on SA’s President Cyril Ramaphosa to accelerate the country’s vaccination programme there is no such pressure on Mnangagwa. Zimbabweans have been duped into believing a country whose health care has collapsed, is hardly testing for the virus, etc. is doing a better job of contain the corona virus that the countries with working health care services and are at least making a concerted effort to follow the WHO testing and tracking guidelines.
If President Cyril Ramaphosa does not pull up his socks, then he and, if need be, his ANC regime will be booted out of office. Thank God SA is still very much a healthy and functioning democratic nation. Sadly, the same cannot be said about Zimbabwe.
Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF regime have rigged elections since the country’s independence in 1980 and with not even one token reform on place Zanu PF is set to rig the 2023 elections.
Indeed, the party has just confirmed that Zimbabweans in the diaspora will once again be denied the vote.
“I cannot go to campaign in the United Kingdom because of sanctions as we all know and as long as that situation persists, we will say no vote to people in the diaspora because we will be allowing only those who have been asking for sanctions to have access to that electorate,” announced Patrick Chinamasa, Zanu PF’s national political commissar.
“That of course is not acceptable, and we will not allow it. Sanctions must fall and then we will start talking about diaspora vote.”
Of course, this is nonsense! The majority of Zimbabweans in the diaspora are in the SADC countries and Chinamasa and his Zanu PF colleagues are free to travel in all these countries. So why are Zimbabweans in these countries being denied their right to vote too!
The right to a meaningful say in the governance of one’s country is a birth and an inalienable right that cannot be denied at a the whim of a dictator.
The real reason Zanu PF is denying Zimbabweans in the diaspora the vote is because most of them are political and/or economic refugees. They blame Zanu PF for this and are therefore not likely to vote for the party. And Zanu PF has very few opportunities to rig the diaspora vote, unlike the rural voters back in Zimbabwe the party corral like cattle.
There are 3 to 5 million Zimbabweans in the diaspora or 40% of the potential vote. How can the elections be lawful, free, fair and credible when one contestant can cherry pick and deny 40% the electorate the vote!
Zimbabwe’s 2023 elections have been rigged in advance.
The only reason why Chamisa and his fellow opposition opportunists insist in participate in these flawed elections is because they are after the few gravy train seats Zanu PF gives away as bait. By participating in the flawed election Chamisa et all are giving the vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy.
It is bad enough that Zimbabwe was already in a serious economic and political mess at the on set of the corona virus in February 2020. Zanu PF’s blundering incompetence in the handling of the pandemic will make the situation even worse than if we had a competent and democratically accountable government.
The prospect of having this Zanu PF dictatorship beyond the 2023 elections is real and frightens the hell out of me! If Zimbabweans participate in the 2023 elections with no reforms then they will be giving legitimacy to the vote rigging Zanu PF. It is insane to believe the opposition can win rigged elections!
Zimbabwe is in this economic and political hell-on-earth because of bad governance and unless we cure ourselves of the curse of rigged elections we are not getting out of the hell-hole!

By A Correspondent- Police in Beitbridge has arrested a 27-year old man for breaking into and stealing from 16 vehicles in the border town.
Tafadzwa Mhofu was arrested on Wednesday last week after raiding his latest victim in the Tshitaudze suburb (Ma two-rooms).
He is believed to be part of a syndicate of thieves who break windows to gain access to most vehicles and steal valuables including money, car batteries, radios, amplifiers, among others.
Matabeleland South police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Thabani Mkwananzi confirmed the arrest of Mhofu to the state media.
“Some interrogations were done resulting in the suspect leading the detectives to several houses around the high-density suburbs of Beitbridge where he had stolen car batteries, car radios, and other valuables from parked motor vehicles,” he said.
“He also revealed to our officers that he uses screwdrivers to break quarter glasses of parked motor vehicles, open the doors of the vehicles and then steal property during the night.”
Asst Insp Mkwananzi said police recovered 18 car batteries, two amplifiers, four speakers, a pressure pump and a car radio from various people who had bought them from Mhofu.
He said the suspect’s ‘tools of the trade’ that included a pair of pliers, three screwdrivers, and a pair of scissors have been confiscated by the police.
“The man’s arrest has helped us clear 16 cases of theft from motor vehicles and further investigations are underway,” said Asst Insp Mkwananzi.
By A Correspondent-MDC Alliance activist, Netsai Marova has been released from prison after spending the Sunday night in prison for allegedly entering a restricted area at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport.
Marova had gone to the airport to welcome her brother who had arrived for their father’s funeral.
This abusive behavior by an irresponsible regime must stop!
Meanwhile, burial for Baba Marova is set for today in Harare at Glen Forest Cemetery at 13:45 hours.
Below is the program update for the funeral.

By A Correspondent- Musicians ExQ and Nutty O have been arrested for allegedly producing fake covid-19 vaccination certificates.
The two spent the weekend behind bars.
The duo whose real names are Enock Munhenga and Carrington Simbarashe Chiwadzwa respectively is accused of fraud after reportedly producing fake Covid-19 certificates when they returned to Zimbabwe after performing in South Africa earlier this month.
Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane has warned those associated with the Egyptian giants that Kaizer Chiefs can hurt any opponent who take them lightly.
Chiefs did the unthinkable as they marched into the final of the Caf Champions League where they will clash with Mosimane’s defending champions and record-winners Al Ahly in Casablanca on July 17.
Amakhosi stunned Wydad Athletic 1-0 in Casablanca in the first leg semi-final match and completed the job with a goalless draw in Johannesburg on Saturday to set up a tantalising Champions League clash between two of the continent’s most followed clubs.
“Kaizer Chiefs is one of the biggest clubs in South Africa in terms of popularity and as a club they are bigger than Mamelodi Sundowns,” Mosimane said after his Al Ahly cruised to the final with a 4-0 aggregate win over Tunisian powerhouses Espereance.
“They have got a bigger support base than Mamelodi Sundowns. But Sundowns has been winning and has been strong for the last 10 years.”
With six years without silverware and coming from a miserable domestic Premiership season, Chiefs sent shockwaves across the continent as they qualified for their maiden Champions League final in their first year of playing in the group stages and knockout rounds of Africa’s premier club competition.
Mosimane described Chiefs as awkward opponents ahead of the two giant’s titanic battle at the Stade Mohamed V in Casablanca.
“They are a good team. For me they are an awkward team and you can’t describe it easily.- Chronicle
A SOUTH AFRICAN travel agent is reportedly making a killing by bringing South Africans to Zimbabwe for COVID-19 vaccination in a scheme that involves some government officials and a local private hospital.
A flyer for the vaccination trips to Zimbabwe
The Boyz Travel Merchants is charging R8 423 per individual for their clients to travel to Harare to get the jabs from a private hospital, HealthPoint, in Belgravia.
HealthPoint is said to be owned by Peter Annesley. It is alleged that clients travel to Harare with an early morning flight, and then take the return flight to South Africa in the afternoon.
Boyz Travel Merchants representative Jan Engelbrecht Klitzke said they had been running the scheme until last Saturday when they received a notice from HealthPoint that they were taking a break of up to two weeks due to a shortage of COVID-19 vaccines in Zimbabwe.
“It was actually put to a stop today (Friday), we have just received communication from the hospital, they say that vaccines are running dry and they have not received sufficient stock, so they are obviously keeping them for local citizens right now,” he said.
Klitzke said their programme mainly targeted tourists who wanted to be inoculated. A COVID-19 jab at HealthPoint costs US$100 per shot, according to Boyz Travel.
Zimbabwe has been buying Sinovac vaccines at US$10 a shot. An administrator at HealthPoint confirmed that they had been administering the vaccine to foreigners.
Last week, the hospital put out a statement that it was suspending the scheme because of low vaccine stocks.
“Greetings to the HealthPoint community.
“HealthPoint is eagerly awaiting additional stocks from government, which were scheduled to arrive in the country last week. Please ask whoever needs to be vaccinated to come tomorrow, otherwise HealthPoint foresees, subject to logistics, a seven to 14-day break in the HealthPoint vaccination programme. Any inconvenience is sincerely regretted,” the statement read.
HealthPoint did not respond to questions from NewsDay on how they were accessing COVID-19 vaccines and the number of foreigners that they had inoculated so far.
Zimbabwe does not ban foreigners from being inoculated locally, but President Emmerson Mnangagwa said they had to pay while locals were supposed to get vaccinated for free.
COVID-19 national taskforce chief co-ordinator Agnes Mahomva referred questions to the Finance ministry, which facilitates the importation of vaccines.
The ministry, however, did not respond to questions from NewsDay.
Medical and Dental Private Practitioners of Zimbabwe Association president Johannes Marisa said the country seemed not to have a clear policy position on the vaccination of foreigners.
“As private practitioners, we are not privy to what is happening, although we hear that there are some private health institutions that are administering these vaccines. We don’t even know, unless there is a special arrangement between them and government,” he said.
To date, Zimbabwe has purchased 1,2 million doses of Sinovac and 500 000 Sinopharm vaccines.
Another 500 000 were donated by Sinopharm, while India donated 35 000 Covaxin jabs and Russian miner Alrosa donated 25 000 Sputnik V vaccines.
The country also received another 500 000 doses donated by different companies. -Newsday
Rodney Tongai Jindu being led to the van from court by members of the homicde in Bulawayo
Bulawayo ‘‘serial killer” Rodney Tongai Jindu who is on death row following a capital punishment for the callous murder of two of his friends in 2017, has approached the Supreme Court challenging the lower court’s verdict.
Jindu (27) of Glengarry suburb was in August 2018 convicted of murder with actual intent by Bulawayo High Court Judge Justice Nokuthula Moyo in connection with the deaths of Mboneli Joko Ncube and Cyprian Kudzurunga.
He shot dead Kudzurunga of Queens Park East on January 29, 2017, buried him in a shallow grave in Burnside suburb and sent a message to the deceased’s mother pretending to be her son who had suddenly decided to leave the country.
He also shot Ncube and dismembered his body and set the parts on fire before burying them in four shallow graves in Burnside.
The court had previously heard that Jindu was mentally ill but following a medical examination, he was declared fit to stand trial.
During trial Jindu told the court that he was sent by the devil to kill two of his victims and threatened to unleash the evil spirit on prosecutors.
He said when he committed the two murders, he was under the influence of heroin and methamphetamine (crystal meth) which created an urge for him to kill. Jindu also confessed that he ate the pair’s raw livers and cooked brains.
Justice Moyo ruled that under the circumstances, Jindu deserved nothing other than capital punishment.
Jindu, through his lawyer Mr Dixon Abraham of Tanaka Law Chamber filed an appeal at the Supreme Court citing the State as a respondent.
In his grounds of appeal, Jindu argued that lower court erred and misdirected itself by convicting him on two counts of murder when there was evidence that he was mentally incapacitated.
“There was cogent evidence that appellant was mentally incapacitated to appreciate the implications of his actions at the material time of committing the offence. Wherefore, appellants prays that the appeal be and is hereby allowed,” said Mr Abraham.
Jindu wants the judgment and sentence of the High Court to be set aside and be substituted with an acquittal. The State is yet to respond.
Jindu was arrested on February 3, 2017 for killing his childhood friend Kudzurunga on January 29. On the second charge, he shot Ncube, dismembered his body and set the pieces on fire before burying them in four shallow graves.
According to court papers, it was stated that on January 12, 2017, Jindu drove to a supermarket situated at corner Robert Mugabe Way and 11th Avenue and met Ncube. They proceeded to Burnside suburb, but the reason for the trip was not mentioned in court papers.
On arrival in Burnside, Jindu pulled out an Optima pistol serial number 13752 from his car and shot Ncube twice in the chest and he died on the spot.
He then chopped the body into pieces, set them on fire before burying them in four different shallow graves. Police investigations led to the arrest of Jindu and he confessed to the killing.
He made indications which led to the recovery of the body parts at four different sites where they were buried. The firearm used in committing the offence was recovered.- Chronicle
Fast-rising comedian and actress, Madam Boss (real name Tarisai Cleopatra Chikocho-Munetsiwa) who is about to hit the one million mark on Facebook, says she will continue working hard in order to grow her brand.
Madam Boss who has 992 000 followers on Facebook recently made her debut TV appearance when she appeared on SABC1’s UBettina Wethu last week. She is also set to appear on a Nigerian film that she featured in some months back as well as a Netflix film, Bad Bishop which is expected to be shot in South Africa in September this year.
Her acting stints seem to be paying off for her as she continues to scoop endorsement deals and the RwandAir brand ambassador deal is the latest. In April she was appointed an Ingwebu Breweries brand ambassador.
Speaking through her manager, Fanwell Masunungure, Madam Boss who rose to fame with her housemaid skits, said she is grateful to the Lord for making her a successful woman.
“Featuring on one of the most-watched programmes on SABC was a very emotional moment for me, looking at how far I’ve come. I’m grateful to God, my family and fans as these are the people who’ve never let me down even when the going gets tough,” said Madam Boss.
She paid homage to Bekezela “Becky” Dube, a lady who runs Becky Casting Agency in South Africa for elevating her. Becky has been very instrumental in the promotion of Madam Boss’ acting career as they have been clinching several roles for her on international TV productions.
“The Bad Bishop role is a huge opportunity for me and I’d like to give a huge thanks to Bekezela Dube who is the founder of Becky Casting Agency. This lady gave me a chance to cross borders and kept on encouraging me whenever the going was tough.
“I’d like to thank her as she has boosted my brand in so many ways,” she said.
The Madam Boss brand that relies heavily on social media, is one that has interestingly stayed clear of controversy despite efforts in some circles to drag the brand into the mud. This, Madam Boss said, was due to her management team that always ensures the brand keeps a clean record.
“My team of managers, my husband Mhofela and Fanwell Masunungure have worked so hard to keep the brand clean and safe from scandals. This has made the brand one that attracts corporates with the latest being RwandAir. This is a first of its kind as there has never been any influencer in the history of Zimbabwe to sign such a deal with an airline.– Chronicle

Tinashe Sambiri|MDC Alliance leader President Nelson Chamisa has assured the nation that Zanu PF agents cannot annihilate the people’s struggle.
President Chamisa made the remarks in Mabvuku on Sunday as he paid tribute to MDC Alliance deputy organising secretary Netsai Marova’s father.
According to President Chamisa, no form of criticism will dampen the people’s struggle for freedom.
“They are saying all of sorts of things about us.They are denigrating us because they know we are the real deal. My message to the MDC Alliance family and the nation at large is – do not panic we are in charge. We know what we are doing. Our opponents are trying to weaken us but we are even becoming intact with each passing day.
Those in Zanu PF know that we are a formidable force and they are using bully-boy tactics to cow us into submission but we are unmoved,” said President Chamisa.
He added:”So they think that inviting n’angas to Ziscosteel to perform rituals will revive the economy? That will not work. A n’anga cannot perform rituals that can revive the economy- there is nothing like that.
(Emmerson) Mnangagwa wants the nation to worship idols. We will never worship idols. We will never salute idols. Mr Mnangagwa thinks that idolatry will somehow transform the economy- he is lost and those who follow him are lost.”

Tinashe Sambiri|Cornered MDC- T leader Mr Douglas Togarasei Mwonzora is a dejected man after being embarrassed by Tungamirai Madzokere.
Mwonzora attempted to steal credit for Madzokere and Last Maengahama’s release from prison.
Madzokere has also pointed out that the visit by members of Mwonzora’s party has been used for nefarious reasons.
Madzokere argued:
“MDCT Leadership, led by Yvonne Musarurwa came to my house and told me that my release from prison was necessitated by Douglas Mwonzora as part of his negotiation with ZanuPF for supporting Const Amendment Bill number 2…
This exposes injustices in Zim as courts are influenced by the Executive & the Legislature, which shouldnt be the case. The Constitution we wrote clearly separates the Judiciary, Parliament, Executive and Cabinet. We shouldn’t be having one influencing judgements.
I cannot be happy for being released due to political intervention. I want to be released because I committed no crime. The scholarly judgement shows the intervention of God with Judges being Spokespersons of the heavenly intervention, because of my innocence.”
He added: “I wasn’t happy seeing my MDCT colleagues on social media insinuating that I’m joining them. That’s not what we agreed. I accepted them at my home because they are fellow friends. Yvonne Musarurwa was my co-accused & a friend for a long time…
“I have friends in MDCT but there’s a difference between being a friend and a political ally. As human being, we are political & social animals. I cannot cut social ties because of differing political opinions . I won’t chase away visitors..
“I cannot fail to socially get along with MDCT people when I get along with some ZANU PF members because we differ politically. Let it be clear that I believe in the Leadership of President Nelson Chamisa…
Even ZanuPF knows that the only person who can deliver Zimbabweans from the bondage caused by Zanu is the MDC Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa. Even President Mugabe during GNU called Chamisa a supersonic Minister.
After the new government led by Pres Nelson Chamisa comes into office soon, Mnangagwa who will be an Opposition Leader will call Pres Chamisa a super-sonic President. I’m done”
Tinashe Sambiri|The so called new dispensation under the Zanu PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa has been caught in a looting spree in Kwekwe.
Impeccable sources have revealed how Zanu PF bigwigs are plundering government and city council resources in Kwekwe at will.
See letter below:
THE GRAFT ROT RUNS UNPRECEDENTEDLY DEEPER IN PRESIDENT’, AND MINISTER OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT’S’ HOME CITY COUNCIL OF KWEKWE, INSIDERS ALLEGES’.
June 26, 2021. Kwekwe.
Information doing serious rounds in and around the communities of Kwekwe, and within the corridors of Kwekwe Civic Centre, and other institutions are that of long standing serious corruption practices by Council bureaucracy, headed by Acting Town Clerk (ATC) Lucia Mkadhla, and through a network of other beneficiaries within the local public sector, private sector, professionals, some local politicians, and through local party factions. The later, allegedly being used by the corrupt management as a ‘buffer’ in the even that things come to head.
Areas allegedly used as conduits includes, tender/procurement, commercial and low density land/stands, Human Resource and grading system, Acting allowances and educational allowances for non existing school children, and many others.
This is said to be seriously compounded by serious incompetency on the part of the ATC who resorts to ‘farm type intimidating bossboy management approach’. Hence seriously exposing management incompetencies since positioned as ATC.
It is further alleged that this intimidatory, and systematic ‘grand graft oily approach’ has been keeping the rot under lid, as none among the HODs and employees would dare raise a finger. On the other hand, taking advantage of the entirely new crop of opposition councillors who are kept suffocated of critical council information.
However, the wider and open talk around the alleged serious corruption and poor management of the city came as a result of the resolution by the full council meeting on 21 May 2021, to ‘commission forensic audit’ on the Central Administration Department. This department houses : low density housing stands: Commercial land: industrial land: Human Resource department: Security section: and Fire Brigade, among others. And these Falls directly under the Acting Town Clerk, (ATC) Mrs Lucia Mkadhla’s command.
Insiders, and locals say that the levels of corruption are of long standing, but were closely guarded as it involves senior council bureaucratic: local politicians: security sector and local professional people. The council management is also allegedly fronting their relatives: friends and workers of their privately owned companies that are registered in relatives etc names. Further allegations are that even local Scribers and local Anti Graft advocators, are alleged to have benefited unprocedurally in land scandals as a way of being silenced’.
And indeed, unlike them in the past, the local scribers have ‘gone to sleep’ in the wake of the glaring scandals, and the obtaining bush management style of this public entity.
Kwekwe City Council has been without a substantive Town Clerk (TC,) since December 2018 when the then incumbent and long serving TC, Ngwena Musara reached retirement age. Thus the then newly voted in 13 MDCA councilors and 1 ZANU PF team appointed Chamber Secretary Lucia Mkandla as Acting Town Clerk (ATC) in January 2019.
That the Rot is unprecedentedly of shocking levels of corruption, spanning over length periods of time, but lately worsened by a combination of serious graft and poor/incompetent corporate management under the charge of Acting Town Clerk.
The Unprecedented deep corruption allegations: unprecedented poor corporate governance, run deep veins within the City of Kwekwe, and said to also have influenced its dormitory town of Redcliff, to follow suit’ well placed insiders revealed’ !
And to think that these are ‘Home towns to both the President, and the Minister responsible for municipalities?, and the minister for state security?
All along, Kwekwe has been tauted as ‘clean of corruption when compared with other cities’. This having been advanced by the same current management and the successive management. Kind of ‘self serving protective mantra’.
It is revealed that the rot has been closely guarded politically, as the corruption practice involves heavy weights management and local politicians.
Thus, over the years, People and officials had been talking in lower tones. Things came to strong talking following the ‘Bold decision taken by the City mothers and fathers at that special full council meeting held on May 21 this year, when they resolved to institutes forensic audit for the city’s central administration department. It is said the this department is the nucleus of the deep rot.
Kwekwe Council have had interviews for TC in the past, to replace Mr Musara. Mrs Mkandhla, the City’s Chamber Secretary, was also in the race but came a distant fourth. Although she is said to hold a PHD, ‘the later also shrouded in the way it is said to have been defended’ she is reportedly without a ‘first degree’, a crucial requirement for the post of TC. Her elevation to Chamber Secretary through interview some years ago was also controversial as regard qualifications. This latter post is usually for those with legal qualifications.
The results of the interview done in 2019 were not implemented, reportedly because the ministry did not have the Local Government Board in place until recently when the minister appointed the ‘Mr Chakaipa headed LG Board’.
At some stage, the councilors had recommended for appointment of Mrs Mkandhla as substantive TC, citing the length period it was taking without LGB.
However, the insiders alleges that the long period of acting have unfortunately exposed the weaknesses of the ATC regarding managerial competence, as well as the alleged serious corruption activities within the council administration and management.
Areas reported of the corruption activities includes, but not limited to:
Commercial and Residential land allocations, fronting friends and relatives; companies own indirectly fronted through relatives and friends; and business and professional acquaintances.
The lack of procedural land allocations, also includes favouring influential individuals, politicians, professionals, individuals, local scribers etc, Allegedly for purposes of ‘silencing and or protection’ in the event that ‘things come to head’.
Issues of grading system: educational allowances: etc are said to be another route of abusing council coffers.
It is reported that following the May 2021 Councilors resolution for forensic audit, the civic centre corridors became ‘awash’ with fearful anxiety amongst the bureaucracy. Kwekwe council had never been subjected to such audit ‘time memorially’. To subject it to this exercise will mean opening serious shocking skeletons!
Because of that, it is alleged that the ATC and management are running around trying all sorts of strategies to circumvent the consequences: such as trying to politicise this noble move by the councilors: trying to mislead the ministry of LG and the Office of President and Cabinet of the intention by the councilors, and faking allegations of victimization of ATC by opposition councilors. The ATC ran around misleading the local ZANU PF individual office holders, and a local party faction hoping for protection. To the extent of sending emissaries to the ministry, and minister of LG trying yo give wrong assumption as to why the forensic audit will be undertaken. These management guys are in total panic, and confusion. Kuvhunduka chati pwatara hunge uine chawaka turika, so said the Shonas!
Other insiders alleges that the ATC and management were even contemplating buying the auditors when they come for the forensic audit. However, the minister is said to plan to send government auditors for this exercise. Yet those in council think that the latter may work in the corner of the ATC and team. For in the past, in 2020 to early 2021 to be precise, the Minister instituted and send a team around the country to carryout state urban land Audit under all urban councils. When this team came to Kwekwe, it (the team) was harassed by ATC and subjected to meetings with officers from the local OPC, some form of proactive indirect tactical intimidation. The outcome of this audit could have been influenced, and was never known to council and councilors. Only to be reported verbally by management that all was well. Hence the wary that similar tactics could be in the offing for the auditors that the minister would assign for the forensic audit.
Lately, council management is suspected to have tried to divide the councilors by through use of money, give favours, and management aligning with party factions, all in a bid for political protection over issues of alleged serious corruption.
However, the news of this forensic audit resolution seems to have been received by the ‘stakeholders: ratepayers; local business; the community, with great interest, and hope for sanity against corruption and for better council management.
They say that the rot has become a cancer and of high concern. This coupled with the ‘Mafia/farm bossboy type of management’ by the ATC was destroying the municipal viability.
People hope that the attempt to politicise the issue to try sympathy luck would not succeed given the ‘stance of the new dispensation and President ED Mnangagwa stance against corruption. Also that this exercise should help to either clean, or clear the city of graft practice, as this dent the President, and Minister of LG and Devolution, who are both from Kwekwe. People hope that the President would stand by his pronounced vision not to spare the rod on anyone involved, regardless of their positions.
Meanwhile, people of Kwekwe were shocked when in mid June this year, the Ward 6 Councillor, McLean Nyamucherera (ZANU PF), who is said to be aligned to the Dhala faction in the race for MP for the ruling party, went around town organising and collected ‘thousands of US$’ from people allegedly for allocations of ‘flea markets stalls’. In doing so, the councilor was helped by a daughter of the incumbent Deputy Mayor among other persons, a sister to the aspiring opposition MP candidate. It is alleged that more than 300 people were made to pay about US$20 each, and the councilor went on to pay only about US$3000 to council and was issued with a receipt. Later on however, this episodic brought scenes at the council meeting when the ATC presented the receipt with intention to have the move endorsed by councilors. The councilors were ‘hot with the issue’, citing that it was not only an abuse of office by the involved councilor, but a serious criminal act. They further questioned as to why the council management would want to cordon such an act, that is unless if the management was behind such a move. Otherwise how do you have a policymaker doing such a thing and management accept the money. Some members of community suspected that this unprecedented move could be linked to management attempting to ‘pacify some party factions through councilors’ hoping for sympathetic against alleged serious graft in council. Otherwise where in the Urban Councils Act is such a role defined! It boggles any sane mind!
It is therefore left to be seen whether the authorities would enable transparency and justice taking course for the good credibility of the New Dispensation and for the city and its ratepayers.
MIGRAINE What You Need to Know About Migraine and Seizures Sometimes migraine and seizure occur in the same person, but sometimes it’s just difficult to tell which a person is experiencing.
Becky Upham By Becky Upham Medically Reviewed by Jason Paul Chua, MD, PhD

It is a clash which might divide South Africa- a dream final from a neutral’s perspective.
As congratulatory messages poured in after the referee blew the final whistle to end a tense semi-final second leg between Kaizer Chiefs and Moroccan side Wydad, which ended 0-0, meaning Amakhosi went through to the final 1-0 on aggregate, it was later confirmed they will meet Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahly in the final.
A solitary Samir Nurkovic goal in the first leg propelled Chiefs to their first ever final in Africa’s premier club competition.
Al Alhly thrashed Tunisian side Esperance 4-0 on aggregate as the quest to defend their title continues.
Interestingly though, whatever happens in the final, South Africa will make history.
If Amakhosi go all the way, they will become only the third team from Mzansi to lift the trophy, after Orlando Pirates in 1995 and Mamelodi Sundowns in 2016.
If Pitso Mosimane guides his Red Devils to victory, he will become the first ever South African coach to lift the trophy three times, and the first to do so consecutively, having done so with Masandawana in 2016 and with Al Ahly last season.
The tension which characterised games between Chiefs and Mosimane’s Sundowns when the outspoken coach was still in charge of the Brazilians, will be a perfect ingredient for the decider, slated for July 17 at the Stade Mohammed V in Morocco.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe
By A Correspondent-Harare magistrate Mr Dennis Mangosi has granted $5 000 bail to a suspected fraudster who allegedly posed as an Econet airtime dealer and duped an unsuspecting airtime vendor of $1 507 000. Michael Mutsvunguma appeared in court charged with fraud.
On June 20, an unnamed complainant wanted to buy wholesale airtime from Econet Wireless and Mutsvunguma told him that he would facilitate the transaction.
Mutsvunguma told the complainant to deposit $1 507 000 into an Econet Stanbic Bank account, telling him that the airtime would be ready for collection by the end of the day.
The complainant made an internal transfer of $1 507 000 from his company’s Stanbic Bank account into the one that had been supplied by Mutsvunguma.
Mutsvunguma then went to an Econet branch and misrepresented that he had been sent by the complainant and collected the money, exchanged it on the black market where he got US$11 188.
Mutsvunguma failed to deliver the airtime to the complainant.
He was arrested on Tuesday last week in central Harare after a tip-off by the complainant.
By A Correspondent- Former MDC-T vice-president Obert Gutu is facing expulsion from the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission (NPRC) for undermining Gukurahundi issue.
Gutu is the NPRC spokesperson and was last Tuesday courted fire when he said the Gukurahundi issue, which claimed over 20 000 people from Matabeleland and Midlands regions in the 1980s, was “a small tiny fraction of issues” his commission was seized with.
The civilians were massacred by a crack army unit deployed to the region by then Prime Minister Robert Mugabe to flush out perceived PF-Zapu dissidents.
Yesterday, traditional leaders joined human rights groups in condemning Gutu, describing his statements as retrogressive and malicious to the founding principles of the NPRC.
Chief Mathema of Gwanda said Gutu was not adding any value to the NPRC and should resign with immediate effect.
“He (Gutu) lacks the calibre required for this emotive genocide,” Chief Mathema said. “He is not a serious person and he lacks depth in approaching the Gukurahubndi issue. He should better excuse himself from this important commission that people hope will solve most of their problems that relate to Gukurahundi. He lacks insight into human nature.”
President Emmerson Mnangagwa last year tasked the traditional leaders in Matabeleland and Midlands regions to preside over the emotive issue and consult affected citizens on the way forward.
He said the government would only capacitate the process.
Chief Jahana of Insiza said Gutu was clueless when it came to dealing with matters of conflict and could worsen the situation.
“He (Gutu) has no focus as a person coming from the region that never lost any relative in such genocide,” Chief Jahana said.
Ibhetshu LikaZulu secretary-general Mbuso Fuzwayo said Gutu’s remarks exposed the NPRC as a tool used by the government, the chief perpetrator, in buying time.
“The appointment of Gutu removed all doubt about the government’s unwillingness to find a lasting solution on the Gukurahundi genocide,” Fuzwayo said.
“Gutu’s history of fraternising with the Zanu PF regime dates back to the days of Gukurahundi genocide, where he was part of the Judiciary that was a vital tool in human rights violations.
“It’s very unfortunate and sad that the whole NPRC can sit and agree that the genocide, which claimed a minimum of 20 000 lives, left thousands of women abused, raped, scores bayoneted, many people displaced, tortured and forcibly disappeared, is nothing but a ‘small, tiny fraction’.”
NPRC chairperson Selo Nare was not reachable for comment on Gutu’s remarks.
Urban Groove musician, Ex Q, and dancehall chanter, Nutty O, have been released from police custody on $5 000 bail each.
The two were arrested at the weekend at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport upon arrival from South Africa, and allegedly producing fake Covid-19 certificates to immigration officers.
The artistes reportedly used the fake documents successfully at the OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg to board their return flight.
They are facing fraud charges and were represented by lawyer, Raymond Savanhu.
As part of their bail conditions, they are required to report at Rhodesville Police Station once a week, not interfere with witnesses and surrender their passports.

By A Correspondent-A Bulawayo, High Court Judge has sentenced one of the 64 Zvishavane illegal gold panners gang members who terrorised fellow miners at Sabi Gold mine to 25 years in prison.
Justice Christopher Dube-Banda slapped Bothwell Moyo (34), to 25 years imprisonment after hearing that the accused, in 2017 led his gang in the murder of Brian Bushe (28) an illegal gold panner whom they assaulted and stabbed with knives, spears and machetes all over the body.
Bushe, thinking that he could escape the barrage of attack from the 64 illegal gold miners dived into a dam for safety.
However, determined to kill him, Moyo and his gang threw explosives in the dam aimed at Bushe before running away from the scene. The other gang members are still at large.
Bushe’s battered body was discovered in the dam by the police after the matter was reported.
Moyo appeared before Justice Dube-Banda sitting at the Gweru High Court circuit recently facing one count of murder.
Moyo pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of culpable homicide. However, Justice Dube-Banda found him guilty of murder with actual intent and sentenced him to 25 years in prison.
The judge said he took into consideration that Moyo has been in remand prison for three years following his arrest.
“The court is taking into consideration that the accused has been in custody for about three years. However, that doesn’t take away the gravity of the matter. He is sentenced to 25-years in prison,” said Justice Dube-Banda.
Prosecutor Mr Mandla Ndlovu told the court that on April 27, 2017 at around 7pm, Moyo was going to Sabi gold mine to pan for gold with Omega Ziwa, Godknows Sibanda and other who are still at large when they met Bushe.
Bushe was in the company of Moses Zakaria, Evans Sibanda and two other panners.
Moyo grabbed Bushe and reminded him of an incident where he had reported him to the police for an assault.
Moyo and his gang indiscriminately assaulted Bushe with machetes, axes and knives.
Bushe broke free but the gang gave chase while pelting him with stones which hit him on the head and back.
Mr Mandla said Bushe dived into a dam for safety as there was no other way of escape.
He said Moyo and his gang threw explosives into the dam aimed at Bushe. A report was made to the police who later recovered Bushes body from the dam.

By Patrick Guramatunhu | Pressure is mounting on SA’s President Cyril Ramaphosa to contain the corona virus pandemic as he places the country back on a strict level-4 lockdown, with restrictions including a ban on all alcohol sales and gathering of more than 50, for the next 14 days.
– SOURCE: zimbabwelight.blogspot.com

He added:”So they think that inviting n’angas to Ziscosteel to perform rituals will revive the economy? That will not work. A n’anga cannot perform rituals that can revive the economy- there is nothing like that.

By A Correspondent- The Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe has reported that a deputy school head at a school in Binga drowned while fishing to get relish.
PTUZ Secretary-General, Raymond Majongwe added that upon hearing the death of her son, the teachers’ mother committed suicide by hanging herself.
Said Majongwe:
_On a sad note a TR in Binga died in water as he was fishing to get relish When his mother heard the news, she hanged herself This economy of ours is exposing us. We are living sevanhu varikutanda botso [we live like cursed people].-
_The teacher is called Friday Muchimba. He was teaching at Bulawayo Kraal and once headed and deputised at the same school. It happened at Simatelele._
The Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) concurred with PTUZ adding that the tragedy could have been avoided if teachers were being paid sufficient salaries. Said the union on Twitter:
_We are told this fisherman was a deputy school Head according to reports. The desperate teacher took to fishing, a field they were not familiar with. Teachers are desperate because of the salary fraud of October 2018. MHSRP. The #BurnTheFraud campaign is aimed at avoiding these deaths._
Another commentator described the tragedy as painful adding “the wife is a student-teacher at UCE, who will pay for her fees now?”
Majongwe responded urging them to tell the wife to contact PTUZ for assistance.
Young Teachers of Zimbabwe also expressed sadness over the development saying most teachers were now surviving on extra lessons that have since been banned.
They added:
_Teachers are being forced to do all sorts of jobs because of the failure of government to restore their dignity through giving them a living wage._
Teachers have since 2019 continuously protested over poor salaries demanding the restoration of the 2018 wages that were around USD500.
Some are currently earning less than USD200 which they say is not enough for them to execute their contractual obligations.

“No-one else is going to vote in the interest of young people except young people”, Mdc Alliance Namibia Youth Assembly Commander submits.
27 June 2021.
As the Mdc Alliance Namibia Rundu Branch Youth Commander, Misheck Bunga, I submit that young voters notoriously neglect the importance of voting, but their voice is an important one on both sides of the entranceway to constitutional democracy. The desperate youths in Zimbabwe and the diaspora should know that key national issues in every election increasingly relate to the concerns of students and professionals between the ages of 18 and 35, making it essential for members within that age group to educate themselves on political issues and take to the polls. The youths constitute nearly 50% of the entire voter population that is why it is important to vote , especially if you fall within a crucial age group.
I would like to share some of the reasons why it is fundamental for the youths to cast their vote. My first submission, is that the youth vote has the potential to be extremely influential in Zimbabwe. It is very crucial for the youths to get direct influence on the issues that might affect their livelihoods for years to come, including college and university fees, which are hiked everyday by the insensitive Zanupf regime and the sickening high levels of unemployment. The other important reason is that while youths make up a large population, they are much less likely than those who are older to get out and vote. In recent successive general elections , majority of young voters didn’t cast their votes , a sorry situation that we are committed to change under the able-leadership of President Advocate Nelson Chamisa.
Moreover, many young people cite feeling as though their vote does not count as their reason for not participating in elections. Youths should know that every vote counts , especially those from the largest voting group with the appetite and energy to defend the vote when rigged. I see the young generation with such potential of effecting political change but they don’t exercise the right to vote as they often should. I suggest that the voting age should be lowered in an effort to promote earlier voting among teenagers and young adults. Building a relationship with the political process as early as possible is key to making voting a lifelong habit. I want to encourage the youths to be a historically repeat voter so that they become less likely to skip a trip to the polls in the future.
Furthermore, young people are hit hard by the economic decay. College arrears and lack of employment which is now at more than 95% are the most painful blows to the financial future of many young voters. It has been discovered that the situation won’t be changed by sitting idle while others make major political decisions. The dilapidated health system is more detrimental or dangerous to the young voting generation. Young people who are scattered in the diaspora seeking better social services should inspire to achieve socio-economic transformation by reflecting support for candidates whom they feel best represent their needs. I add that no one is going to vote in the interest of young people except young people.
Moreso, the divisive nature of partisan politics at play in the country and well among young voters must be resisted with equal measure. This was evidenced by the illegal re-establishment of the Zanupf terror group named National Youth Service(Border Gezi) which helped the regime to kill and intimidate human rights defenders ,journalists and opposition activists since year 2002. Today the 27 June is a rude reminder to the high levels torture and state-sponsored deaths of Mdc leaders like Joshua Bakacheza, Tonderai Ndira ,.Talent Mabika and many more thousands. May the dear souls of the butchered social democrats rest in power. The young voters are expected to be the first age group with the ability to challenge the incompetent and corrupt Zanupf cabal. I urge the youths to replace looters and thugs with an alternative progressive political party which represents a diverse population through more inclusive agenda hence the need to embrace #CitizensConvergenceForChange.
Zimbabwean youths should also consider that they may not care now, but they might in five or more years. They may feel that choosing a president or councillor is not something that affects their life right now. They might not yet be struggling with issues like college debt or finding a full-time job. What the young generation must know is that adulthood brings many new challenges like college , marriage ,buying a house , paying their own health insurance , starting a business, all of which could radically change their perspective on political issues. We recently saw the clueless regime demolishing people’s houses and their marketing stalls without giving them any alternative. The unemployed youths are victims to this artificial mess created by Zanupf dictators.
To conclude, here are the helpful tips to win Zimbabwe for complete change:1) Check to see if you are registered to vote in 2023.2)Register to vote/confirm or change registration regardless of your geographical location.3) Avoid voter apathy and ensure early voting.

The Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) is greatly disturbed by the continuing demolition and destruction of informal businesses which has affected a huge number of desperate Zimbabweans.
The demolition of the so called illegal structures continues unabated without any slight consideration of the consequences on the affected people, especially women and children.
By its mismanagement of the economy in pursuit of political ends, the Government has created mass unemployment. As formal sector unemployment has risen, more and more people had to move into the informal trading sector to earn some sort of livelihood.
The current destruction of the informal sector is reminiscent of the “Operation Restore order” of 2005/6 that left over 700 000 people stranded. Previously the Government encouraged the growth of the informal sector and allowed informal traders and vendors to carry out their activities.
The authorities largely turned a blind eye to vendors and traders operating in violation of by-laws. The destruction of structures that house thousands of vendors is being done without providing any alternative.
While covid-19 has caused great suffering among Zimbabweans, the government of Zimbabwe is rubbing salt on the wounds through destruction of their only means of survival. Why they do this in the midst of Covid-9 and winter is a mystery. It borders on sadistic mannerism.
The wrecking of the informal economy sector will have serious detrimental economic effects at a time the economy is already in a parlous state. Apart from drastically increasing unemployment, the campaign will have a detrimental knock-on effect upon the formal economy.
The City Councils, various Government Ministers, and Government officials have advanced a whole miscellany of reasons for this operation. In general, the official explanations have been confusing, and occasionally at variance with each other. The timing and magnitude of the ‘clean-up’ operation has led to much speculation as to whether there are in actuality other reasons than those officially proclaimed.
For instance, some have argued that the campaign is to punish urban people for voting for the opposition. Others say that it is a pre-emptive strike against the urban poor to prevent unrest in the towns by driving people away into the countryside. There are problems with each of these speculations The destructions violate a whole range of international human rights norms as well as fundamental rights provisions in the Constitution of Zimbabwe. That is the reason the ZCTU has always been calling for an all stakeholders approach in the formulation and implementation of policies.
Whatever the reasons for it, the cleanup exercise constitute a widespread and systematic attack on a poor and defenseless civilian population. It has laid to ruins businesses of thousands of people.
Not without justification, have people likened the devastation wreaked by the government to that of a tsunami.
However, unlike a tsunami, the targets have been selective and it is this selectivity which has led to the speculation that the true motives behind it are political.
The continuous heinous act of destroying people’s livelihoods should be condemned by all right minded citizens. Actually it is the government policies and corruption that have bred disorder and pushed people to this informality.
After the carnage we would obviously see the government turning a messiah’ pretending to be a caring government offering the same victims with shelter.
As labour we stand firm in solidarity with the displaced informal economy traders.

I’m done”
Tinashe Sambiri|Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration has arrested MDC Alliance deputy organising secretary Netsai Marova at a time she is going through a grieving process following her father’s death.
Netsai was arrested at RGM International Airport as she was receiving her brother who had just landed for their father’s funeral, according to the MDC Alliance.
“Netsai Marova has been arrested at RGM airport whilst picking up her brother who had just landed for Dad’s funeral,” the MDC Alliance said in a statement.
MDC Alliance Youth Assembly spokesperson Stephen Sarkozy Chuma denounced the relentless persecution of Netsai Marova.
“Mnangagwa’s heartless regime has arrested our deputy organising secretary at a time she is going through a grieving process. This is a callous act by the Zanu PF regime,” fumed Chuma.
Government has approved the use of ivermectin to treat Covid-19 in a move that may go a long way in offsetting the current third wave.
The Medicines Control Authority of Zimbabwe (MCAZ) said in a statement, “the secretary for health and child care has authorised the MCAZ to authorise the importation and use of ivermectin for Covid-19.
“MCAZ will issue bulk section 75 approvals for importation of human formulations of ivermectin manufactured by compliant facilities.”
Ivermectin has already been proved to be an effective treatment for Covid if administered early to victims.
However, its use has remained reduced and debatable.
Some sections have accused big pharmaceutical companies of underplaying its potency against Covid in a bid to advance the commercial interests of vaccines.
A significant body of peer-reviewed evidence has emerged showing that Ivermectin may decrease the case counts and mortality rates when used as a prophylactic agent.
At least 747 000 people in the country have so far taken at least one dose of vaccine.
This has however, not been enough to stop the on-going third wave.
This has resulted in the current lockdown measures in large parts of Mashonaland West.
Last week the country received half a million more vaccines from China as part of the expected 2.5 million Sinopharm doses.
The government has set a target of achieving herd immunity by year-end with a target of at least 60% of the population vaccinated.
By Jane Mlambo| MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa has signed the late former Zambian President Dr Kenneth Kaunda’s condolences book.
Posting on social media after visiting the Zambian embassy in Harare, Chamisa said;
“Today I signed the Dr KK condolence book at the Zambian embassy in Harare. Liberation without transformation, development and democracy is hollow, unstable and unsustainable. The future of Africa is to be build upon visionary leadership, partnership, entrepreneurship democracy and strong institutions. RIP African Giant!”

Netsai Marova lost her father yesterday and is yet to be buried.
Health control measures have been tightened at ports of entry to minimise chances of a person infected with Covid-19 entering Zimbabwe without being tested or quarantined.
Tourists and business visitors are still barred, but drivers of heavy commercial trucks are allowed in and returning residents have a right to come home, but with precautions so they do not spread Covid-19.
The Government has put in teams at entry points to screen potential border crossings.
District medical officer for Victoria Falls Dr Fungayi Mvura gave some details.
“Like you have seen, we have teams at the border which check the validity of the required negative certificates,” she said.
“Those without the certificates will be screened at their own expense, but for those without money to pay for a test our rapid response team will test them at the team’s convenience; they visit the border periodically.
“The teams are a bit thorough, we want to avoid a situation where Covid-19 positive cases get into the country unknowingly and start infecting others.”
Zimbabwe has won international plaudits for the way it has handled the Covid-19 pandemic with a quick and effective response.
“Vaccines have minimised a spike in infections especially here in Victoria Falls, but in Hwange cases are on the rise,” said Dr Mvura.
“We urge people to get vaccinated, but whether you are vaccinated or not you have to continue adhering to the prescribed control measures.”
Mr Owen Mukombero the Victoria Falls, regional immigration officer, north western region, gave details of the minimised traffic at the port.
“The monthly averages at Victoria Falls border, pre-Covid-19 for low season up to April entry, was 20 000 people, 19 000 for exit the usual total transiting public during that period is 39 000,” he said.
By A Correspondent- A man has jumped from a moving plane at Los Angeles International Airport after attempting to access the jet’s cockpit.
The man, who was not identified, opened the plane’s door and fled via the emergency slide on Friday, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said.
He was detained on the taxiway and taken to hospital with unspecified injuries.
There has been a rise in incidents on flights in the US. About 3,000 incidents have been recorded this year.
Friday’s incident occurred at 19.10 local time (02:10 GMT Saturday) aboard a United Express flight, operated by SkyWest Airlines, to Salt Lake City.
Flight crew reported seeing the passenger getting up from his seat as the plane taxied towards the runway. They said he had pounded on the cockpit door before exiting the plane through the emergency door, NBC News reports.
The plane, an Embraer 175 regional jet, later returned to its gate.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident and the passenger’s motives.
Earlier this month the FAA said it had investigated the highest number of potential breaches of the law since records began in 1995. Many of those are in relation to incidents where people have refused to wear a mask.
The agency said some 394 cases of passengers allegedly “interfering with the duties of a crew member” had been reported as of 25 May.
This is twice as many as the whole of last year, when 183 cases were investigated. 2px presentational grey line.
By Dr Masimba Mavaza| Once again social media was abuzz with Twitter messages spread by Temba Mliswa attacking the Police Commissioner-General Godwin Tandabantu Matanga. Temba is a big mouth and an attention seeker who has been captured by senior police officers at the very highest level. Mliswa has therefore boasted that he will bring evidence on how Matanga is corrupt. He is relying on Mr Guvamatanga the permanent Secretary in the ministry of finance who was giving Mutamba information about Drax which Temba is now accusing Godwin Matanga of corruption involving and is the one who was giving hopewell ma documents which Hopewell has been publishing masquerading as an investigative journalist.
The Twitts seem very basic only attacking Godwin Matanga. But looking at the Twits at large Temba is being used by a Deputy Commissioner General and some Senior assistant commissioners who are after Matanga’s position.
What Temba is doing is a well calculated personal attack on Matanga with a specific aim of tarnishing Matanga’s character and hoping that Matanga will be relieved of his position.
Matanga has kept silent while Temba jumps up and down like a headless chicken.
Matanga is a man of strong character he knows when a pig jumps in the puddle do not follow it there. The pig will enjoy the mud and it it’s dirty and plays dirty, such is Temba Mliswa.
Matanga is blessed with a strong character. Character” is a collective term for the qualities that you have, or don’t have, that set you apart from other people. When we talk about someone “having character” in a positive way, these qualities could include traits such as courage, honesty, loyalty, and integrity. Our character helps us to decide between what we think is right and what we think is wrong. Matanga has left Temba alone despite the way Temba is dragging Matanga’s name in the mud.
But Temba is not doing this alone. Temba is doing by a team in the Police hierarchy who are eying Matanga’s position. Some of them were the darlings in the first dispensation and can surely be called the old outfits in the Police force.
Matanga is being piloted against by those who wish to take over and these are going after Matanga and even the first family. Temba pretends to be fighting for the president yet Temba is the most divisive person out side ZANU PF. He has appointed himself as a chief whip for ZANU PF and by so doing Temba continues to be used by those who have scores to settle against some people in government. Temba has had a go at minister Ziyambi, Temba has tried it again with Tagwirei and for a long time he is after Matanga. The truth behind all this is that there is a team of officers who are friends of Temba and they are all out to get Matanga. At the same time Matanga is busy doing his job oblivious of the fact that there are Judas in his team. Matanga believes his team is doing the right thing, so she continues to defend their actions and refuses to back down, despite harsh criticism and tremendous pressure. Temba Mliswa is on the case involving two million dollars which he claims confidently that was stopped in Budapest Hungary. He further claims that it was payment for PPEs which were valued at no more than 200k. This Mliswa lies with a straight face. Two Million dollars was for performance guarantee of the contract. This had nothing to do with PPEs. Temba has lied to the people because the two million dollars has nothing to do with COVID 19. Two million refers to a different contract ehe Drax has executed the specific Performance by delivering the goods. Without any Evidence Temba avers that the amount of 2 Million was sent from treasury to pay for goods worthy 200K. This case is no longer before the courts but no payment has been done. Temba also reveals that Ass Comm ObeyLaw Moyo the Director of CID issued a letter stopping the transfer of the funds into the Drax nominated account. So ASCOM Moyo just made a decision to stop payment without evidence and teaming up with some senior officers Moyo stopped payment and this action is to be causing great problems for the whole nation. For far too long Temba Mliswa has masqueraded as a voice against corruption yet the opposite is true. Temba Mliswa has raised this issue to taint Matanga and to protect his friends. Temba should be challenged to show how Matanga has been captured by corrupt elements. To the contrary In 2020 Temba was in the forefront of defending senior police officers who were charged of corruption. So who is captured and who is neck high in corruption. Temba tried unsuccessfully to persuade the VP Chiwenga to have commissioner Douglas Jabulani nyakutsikwa released after he was arrested for conniving with City of Harare office to acquire land for a friend and relatives unprocedurally. Temba again was in the forefront requesting the release of Director of CID Chrispen Charumbira to be released after he was detained for corruption.
Temba again dragged the name of the president in the mud when he alleged the corrupt officers were aligned to the president which was not true. Last week Temba was parading with Rushwaya who herself has smuggling cases pending. Temba who is a strong Allie of Obeylaw Moyo who is on suspension for corruption is always seen mingling with officers and people with questionable behaviour. Director for CID Magande ,Ass comm Charumbira and other senior officers are using Temba to smear and embarrass Matanga. He is shielding those under corruption charges and he attacks Matanga in order to have him removed from the position and be placed by Matanga.
But who is Godwin Matanga l? Godwin Tandabantu Matanga is a senior Zimbabwean law enforcement officer. Matanga is the current Commissioner-General of the Zimbabwe Republic Police. He was named acting Commissioner-General after long-serving ZRP Commissioner-General Augustine Chihuri retired in December 2017. On 12 February 2018 the Public Service Commission announced Matanga’s appointment as the substantive Commissioner General. Since that time Matanga has been attacked left right and centre by his own team. His own deputy and his officers a scheming for his removal. This explains why in the case of Drax Temba only attacks Matanga in his Twitter.
Temba Mliswa came up with a thread which he alleges was exposing the corruption of Commissioner General Matanga. He points out the issue of Drax the issue which was blown out of proportion by Hopeless Ching’ono.
For us to understand this case let’s look at who is the target in this case. The target in this case is the President of Zimbabwe and his family. Temba fights the president in a very subtle way he took the advantage that his outbursts are taken as madness yet he is delivering blows below the belt. The whole case shows some treasonous actions by some officers in the police. These are the police officers who targeted the first family through Drax. They then attacked Zimbabwe.
After the Zimbabwe government paid two million dollars for the goods which was already supplied to Natpharm, the Zimbabwean Police through Ass Commissioner Ndou working together with Deputy Commissioner General Mutamba and ASCOM Charumbira instructed Assistant Commissioner Obeylaw Moyo who was a Deputy Director CID Commercial Crimes Unit to generate a letter stoping the funds to be transferred into Drax nominated account. This was done without consulting protocol. The police officers who are very senior with ASCOM Ndou telling another government that Zimbabwean government is practicing money laundering. This shows the irresponsibility of the senior officers. Having said this they are now turning against Matanga and they have assured Mliswa that he will be given evidence against Matanga. This is because they are targeting Matanga’s position. Temba is playing as the power in the mirror. With information provided by Mutamba to Temba Mliswa and to Hopeless Chin’ono the case was wrongly placed at the door steps of the president.
The Drax issue angers Temba because Temba wanted his own company he was backing and his team of officers to benefit. When he realised that the contract was awarded to Drax Temba teamed up with Chin’ono and pretended to be giving out information which would look credible.
This shook the government and led to the dismissal of the minister of health and several arrests of Natpharm officers.
After attacking Obadiah Moyo Temba and Chin’ono then changed their narrative and attacked the first family.
The narrative was now “ED must Go” Temba still had a free play in the police dealings. He then set a team against Matanga obviously being encouraged by the officers mentioned above. The reality of the matter is that Mliswa has mentioned Matanga in this case yet Matanga has no direct or indirect involvement in this case.
It is unheard of for the police force to label the whole country money launderers. Then implicate the first family in a case which has been dressed as corruption issue. Let’s not be blind Matanga is being attacked for defending the president.
Temba Mliswa is a sworn enemy of Zimbabwe he now has the support of the officers who in themselves are after the position Matanga holds. Matanga is facing clear sabotage by his officers who are eyeing his position. What is happening to Matanga is a Character assassination which is perpetrated by Temba and the officers who are not happy with Matanga. Because these officers are not happy with Matanga they do not care even if their actions affect the good name of the nation and the name of the first Family. Delish Nguwaya and Obadiah Moyo are the victims of the war wedged against Matanga by his deputies. We must remember that character assassination is a deliberate and sustained effort to damage the reputation or credibility of an individual. The term could also be selectively applied to social groups and institutions. Agents of character assassinations employ a mix of open and covert methods to achieve their goals, such as raising false accusations, planting and fostering rumors, and manipulating information.
Character assassination happens through character attacks. These can take many forms, such as spoken insults, speeches, pamphlets, campaign ads, cartoons, and internet memes. For some historical figures, that damage caused by character assassination endures for centuries.
Character Assassination may involve exaggeration, misleading half-truths, or manipulation of facts to present an untrue picture of the targeted person. It is a form of defamation and can be a form of ad hominem argument.
The behaviour of Temba Mliswa is meant to tarnish the image of the first family together with the country.
Firstly it is treasonous of the police to say the nation has sent funds in a laundering way. This tarnishes the image of the country. It is a fact that Drax had supplied PPEs. The question of overcharging was raised by Temba Mliswa through Chin’ono and Mutamba Charumbira and Ndou. Obey Law Moyo did not obey the law but took sides of those who were corrupt themselves.
There has never been a dispute that the products were not delivered. Some PPEs are held at the airport in Zimbabwe.
The effects of the behaviour of the police officers and their puppet Temba has costed Zimbabwe heavily. At the moment Zimbabwe has lost investors. No one wants to deal with a country which use your products then change the price and finally refuse to pay. The country which arrests the foreign representatives over a civil case is a danger to trade. This is the label Zimbabwe has because of the actions of Temba and his team of officers.
One should ask that if this matter was genuine why was it not handled by SACU or ZAAC. Temba as we were told by his girlfriend has been planning to kill the President’s son. One of the twins. This could have been just a rumour but with Temba you can not ignore this. He then has gone on to include Matanga in this case yet there is nowhere Matanga has been involved in this case. Instead Mutamba and Charumbira in cahoots with Obeylaw Moyo and Ndou have played Temba in their war to dethrone Matanga. While they do this they do not care what they do to the first family.
Reading Mliswa’s Twitts will show that Temba is a lunatic on Twitter. He is simply attacking Matanga so that Mutamba gets a chance to succeed. So the reality of the matter is that Matanga is being dragged in the mud by those who want his position at all costs. The actions of the four officers is dividing the police leadership. Daggers are out against Matanga but we all know that Matanga is only being used as a step towards The president. In short there is a thick plot against president Mnangagwa.
It is the character of the president which is being torn apart by Temba Mliswa. In talking about Matanga One cannot but feel that a very grave responsibility rests upon us as a nation to defend our police force. So far as Matanga is concerned, in any act he has done, in any letter he has written, or in the matter of the card which has put him in the present position, he withdraws nothing. He has done all those things with a premeditation and a deter-mination, at all risks, and at all hazards to try to serve his nation his president and the interfaith of the Police. Whether Matanga was right or whether he was wrong, you have probably to some extent information on which you can found a judgment. Matanga’s conduct in this respect has been absolutely consistent all through, and if Temba has evidence he must produce it not just attacking Matanga through the Twitter.
Temba has alleged nothing but only malice. Therefore there were no circumstances rendering Mr Matanga liable to the accusations which Temba has been putting across to the public. Temba’s present Twitter was done from malice arising out of greed and corruption on the party of The Law protects free speech, but when an untrue statement causes real harm, defamation laws and constitutional protections can collide.
Defamation laws protect people whose careers, reputations, finances and/or health have been damaged by untrue, harmful statements. However, defamation law often intersects with laws protecting the freedom of speech guaranteed by the constitution of Zimbabwe.
So, just as it’s important to protect people from the harms that untrue statements may cause, it’s necessary to protect the right to speak freely and without fear of reprisal.
If the defendant can prove the statement he or she made was true, the defamation case ends there. People cannot be punished for speaking the truth, no matter how ugly or embarrassing it may be. Truth is always a defense to a claim of defamation. But Temba Mliswa is a virgin to the Truth. He is motivated by greed and this anger in him is so destructive.
Temba is a lose cannon and he must be controlled. His hatred against Matanga is destroying the nation. By continuing his fight against Matanga Temba is putting the name of our police force in disrepute. Once you attack the head you have attacked the whole body. So the whole police force is being attacked by Temba Milisa.
This scandalous behaviour by Temba must be dealt with. Zimbabwe is losing investors because of people who always Twit negatives against Zimbabwe. Operating a police or security service within a liberal democracy does of course pose problems and occasionally dilemmas. But Temba is a cancer which must be put in its right place. Temba must leave Matanga Alone.
POLICE in Gweru have arrested a 23 year- old Bulawayo man who was found in possession of US$2 710 in fake notes after he tried to buy medicine from a pharmacy.
The incident occurred on Saturday at about 6pm at Sante-Plus Pharmacy at Chirandu Shopping Centre in Senga, Gweru.
Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident and urged members of the public to scrutinise the United States dollar bills they get from clients in case they are handed counterfeit notes.
“Circumstances are that on June 26, the accused Tinashe Kanengoni of Nketa 7, Bulawayo disembarked from a Toyota Mark X motor vehicle at the Business centre and bought Solphyllex Syrup from Sante-Plus pharmacy. He used a US$100 note and was given US$90 change,” said Insp Mahoko.
He said Kanengoni allegedly rushed back to the vehicle which had two other occupants.
Insp Mahoko said the till operator Mr Kumbirai Brian Chereti immediately realised that the note was fake before running after Kanengoni.
“The till operator realised that the vehicle was about to take off before he jumped onto the bonnet of the motor vehicle. Upon taking off, the driver realising that Mr Kumbirai Brian Chereti was clinging on to the bonnet swerved to the left and right in an effort to throw him off the bonnet. In the process the driver lost control of the vehicle which fell into a ditch,” he said.
Two occupants including the driver, Insp Mahoko said, disembarked the motor vehicle and fled.
“One suspect, Tinashe Kanengoni was apprehended by members of the public who reported the matter to ZRP Senga Police. Police attended the scene and upon searching the vehicle, four different vehicle number plates, $2 710 fake US dollars comprising of 25xUS$100, 3xUS$50, $2xUS$20 and 2xUS$10 were recovered,” he said.
Insp Mahoko said investigations are in progress.
“The other two suspects are at large while Kanengoni is in police custody. He will be taken to court soon to answer charges of fraud,” he said.
Insp Mahoko appealed to members of the public who might have information on the whereabouts of the other suspects to inform any nearest police station.
“Also, members of the public who have fallen victim to criminals using counterfeit money are invited to approach Senga Police and assist in this investigation. We would also like to urge business people to closely check the bills they are given before processing transactions,” he said.
