A woman, who was accused by her mother-in-law of not paying water bills, lost her cool and stabbed her in the left buttock and left arm.
Jacklin Moyo (35) said she and her sister received a report from their tenant Sibonginkosi Hadebe that their daughter-in-law Yvonne Ncube (29), who stays at the family house in Lobengula West, was not paying water bills. And the water bill was ballooning.
Disturbed by such bitter to swallow news, Moyo and her sister confronted their daughter-in-law in Lobengula West.
They questioned her about why she was not paying water bills and that sparked an argument and tempers flared. “Ncube ran into the kitchen and a picked a kitchen knife and charged towards us. I tried to seize the knife from her, but she stabbed me in the left arm and in the left buttock while I was trying to run for my dear life,” said Moyo.
Ncube said: “I stay at the family house with my husband and a tenant Sibonginkosi. Sibonginkosi lied to my mother-in-law that I was not paying water bills. They came here and accused me without even asking for the receipts. We were trying to clear the water bill arrears because when we came to stay here the arrears were high and we have been making sure we religiously pay to clear the bill,” she said.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident: “We urge family members to solve their differences amicably, or they could engage third parties like pastors, police in the Victim Friendly Unit (VFU) or elderly people in the community. Some assaults may appear minor but at times may result in the unnecessary loss of life.”- B-Metro
Tinashe Sambiri|Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa is only concerned about power retention in spite of the deepening crisis, MDC Alliance leader President Nelson Chamisa has said.
Mr Mnangagwa recently pampered traditional leaders with brand new Isuzu vehicles and wasted thousands of dollars on the Mbuya Nehanda statue, ignoring the the dire situation in the country’s hospitals.
According to President Chamisa, Mr Mnangagwa is only worried about power at a time the nation is grappling with deepening economic and health problems.
“Brand New Isuzu vehicles were recently given to the Chiefs and Mbuya Nehanda gobbled a whopping R2.8 million in cash at a time when our health infrastructure is in rotten state.
They never think about anything other than power retention.
Cars to chiefs because chiefs will be used to frog-march voters to vote for them.
The people and the country are Zanu pf’s last worries,” President Chamisa wrote on his official Facebook page.
The fight for control of Caps Holdings Limited (CHL) has turned nasty, with war veteran and businessman Frederick Mutanda alleging that State security agents were involved in a plot to assassinate him.
In a letter addressed to government lawyer Addington Chinake of Kantor & Immerman dated June 10, 2021, Mutanda demanded that the State show proof that CHL requested for a financial rescue package and that government paid off debts owed by him and his companies.
Government alleged it rescued the firm through Treasury Bills in a move aimed at making the company attractive to investors.
However, Mutanda said failure to furnish him with such proof within 24 hours would leave him with no option, but to seek recourse at the courts.
He also said he was worried about involvement of State actors in a matter where he is challenging government’s involvement in the arbitration process between CHL and Caps Pharmaceutical Trust.
In a notice to file a point of in limine — lack of locus standi — submissions in the arbitration proceedings before retired Supreme Court judge Justice Ahamed Moosa Ebrahim, Caps Pharmaceutical Trust argued that: “It is common cause that the arbitration proceedings have been instituted by the shareholders’ agreement and not in respect of any other agreement. Thus, no other party (such as the government) has the locus standi to participate in the arbitration proceedings as it was and remains excluded from the contract through privity of contract. It cannot rely on another party’s right to refer a matter to arbitration neither can it enforce rights that do not accrue to it.
“In the letter from government legal representatives dated May 4 2021, which letter is attached. Reference is made to a sale of shares agreement between the government of Zimbabwe and Mr FCM Mutanda through various vehicles. It is common cause that this is an agreement that does not involve either of the parties that are now before arbitration, namely the trust and CHL. The government has not stated what interest it has in CHL simply because it has no such interest. It never acquired any shares in CHL which is why the share certificates have only two parties being the trust and CHL.
“It must also be noted that the sale of shares agreement that the government of Zimbabwe refers to, has its own dispute resolution clause which can be utilised should the government have the need to do so. The process is materially different from that outlined in the shareholders’ agreement between the trust and CHL and more importantly, it points to the fact that the government of Zimbabwe is not without recourse (in the event that it has issues with CHL or any other party).
“It is pertinent to point out that the validity of the sale of shares agreement is in dispute. However, this is a matter which can only be determined through a different forum given that the subject matter of this current dispute is the shareholders’ agreement.
“In light of the above, it is submitted that the government and indeed any other party apart from the trust and CHL, are strangers to the shareholders’ agreement and, therefore, cannot sit at the arbitration table in a matter arising from the same.”
“Sight must not be lost on the basis of the arbitration proceedings. This is abundantly clear from the shareholders’ agreement and the notice of commencement of proceedings. This dispute centres on the rights emanating from such agreement of which the government of Zimbabwe is not a party to. It must be precluded from clouding issues and prolonging the matter whereas it can present its own case without seeking to ride on the rights of another party, which rights it has no entitlement to.
“Consequently, the preliminary point must be upheld with costs being borne by the government.”
In its notice of response, government said: “It is common cause between the parties that the company fell into financial difficulties. The company was at the time listed on ZSE. Its major shareholder was Mutanda through a variety of trusts and companies that were ultimately controlled by him.
“When the company fell into difficulties, it approached the government of Zimbabwe for assistance.
“The government of Zimbabwe took the view that the pharmaceutical industry was strategic and the country should continue to have a significant manufacturer of pharmaceutical drugs and products.”
Mutanda refuted the claims that Caps asked for government’s rescue and paid off debts (both in Zimbabwe dollars and United States dollars) that he and his company previously owed locally and abroad. “I refute these claims and put you to task to prove your claims, which I submit are false and malicious, but seek to slander my person and then get me eliminated through unlawful extra-judicial assassination.”
He said key to the dispute was “absence of post-independence disarmament, demobilisation and reintegration of former Zipra combatants that led to the confiscation of ZPRA properties, Gukurahundi, a Cold War era conflict, my divestment from Caps, forfeiture of my assets, including cash and State sponsored assassination attempts.”
The letter was copied to State Security minister Owen Ncube, Central Intelligence Organisation director-general Isaac Moyo, Zimbabwe Defence Forces Commander Philip Valerio Sibanda and Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) governor John Mangudya.
In a letter to the chairman of the Commercial Arbitration Centre (CAC) dated May 24, 2021, Mutanda through his lawyers from Mberi, Tagwirei and Associates, said government had no justification to be part of the arbitration processes that only involved Caps Pharmaceutical Trust and Caps Holdings Limited.
He said other parties were only cited as “parties to the proceedings”.
Mutanda said he was concerned that in spite of his position, an arbitrator was appointed without his involvement and in addition was not happy with the inclusion of other respondents, the government and Caps (Pvt) Limited.
CAC chairman Muchadeyi Masunda said: “Mutanda is an interested party, through certain corporate entities which are either beneficially owned or controlled by him and/or his family, in an arbitration case involving the Industry and Commerce ministry and eight other parties.”
Ebrahim was duly appointed as the arbitrator by the CAC, with the concurrence of the other interested parties.
“In the course of the pre-arbitration hearings which are currently being arranged prior to the commencement of the actual case in earnest in July 2021, the parties to the dispute are entitled to raise any points in limine for consideration and determination by the arbitrator. In this particular instance, Mr Mutanda is querying the locus standi of; inter alia, the RBZ,” Masunda said.
He added that the presiding arbitrator will invite the parties’ respective legal practitioners to address him on the point in limine which has been flagged by Mutanda. “There is, therefore, nothing unusual with the course of action taken by Mr Mutanda as he is well within his rights to do so. He has every right to be heard just like the other parties to the dispute.”
Mutanda is demanding that the arbitration proceedings between CHL and the trust be immediately stopped as it is not opposed to the relief that is being sought and has made this expressly clear from as far back as November 2020.
In its response filed on June 6, 2021, the government said it had a “real and substantial interest in the dispute between Caps Holdings Limited and Caps Pharmaceuticals (Private) Limited insofar as it relates to Caps (Private) Limited. -Newsday

Police in Mutoko, Mashonaland East province, are currently investigating a case where a 19-year-old girl allegedly fatally assaulted a sex-starved man after he attempted to rape her.
The teenager (name withheld), under Chief Chimukoko, reportedly overpowered the deceased, Shuwa Tsuro (43), who had accosted her several times demanding sex.
The girl has since been arrested and charged with murder. Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Simon Chazovachii confirmed the incident yesterday.
According to police, on June 7, at around 10am, Tsuro went to the accused’s place of residence and proposed love but was turned down.
On the same day, at around 9pm, the teenager was preparing supper alone when Tsuro arrived and proposed love again, this time demanding sex. He was turned down again.
Enraged, Tsuro charged towards the girl with his manhood exposed. But the girl hit him with a piece of firewood until he fell unconscious.
The girl then informed a neighbour Patricia Makwanya of the incident, who rushed to the scene and found Tsuro lying on the ground half naked and complaining of pain on his legs.
Tsuro died during the night.-Newsday
State Media – Government’s decision to ban artistes from holding musical shows was meant to protect them from contracting Covid-19 but they are now free to hold concerts within the threshold of 50 people in attendance, President Mnangagwa has said.
He said the artistes should ensure that they comply with the number of people prescribed by the law because it is consistent with Government’s desire to contain the Covid-19 pandemic that has claimed lives of people in the country and globally.
President Mnangagwa said this at State House yesterday at an event to handover musical equipment that was donated by Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation Deputy Minister Tinoda Machakaire to two musicians as part of a fulfilment of a pledge he had made to them.
The two artistes who received full sets of musical kits are contemporary musician, Andy Muridzo and Chief Hwenje, born Admire Sanyanga Sibanda who sang the popular ED Pfee song.
“Deputy Minister Machakaire promised these musicians in my presence that he would buy them a full set of musical instruments and he has done so now.
“This set is his (Muridzo) and that one is his (Chief Hwenje) and they are saying they are happy. It is all modern equipment. You should see them play.
“What is important is to protect them during Covid-19, after Covid-19 they will play. If they die from Covid-19 they will not be able to play. So we are protecting them so that they will play after Covid-19.
“But so far they can have shows but not in excess of 50, if they can manage to do it, but it is for the purpose of protecting them,” said President Mnangagwa.
Deputy Minister Machakaire welcomed the decision by the Second Republic led by President Mnangagwa to relax the restrictions on holding shows.
He said he promised the two artistes the equipment in 2019 but could not do so early due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“As what the President has said we promised these artistes but we have been delayed by Covid-19.
“But today we want to thank the President for accepting to hand over the equipment. We want to thank the President for relaxing the restrictive conditions for artistes.
“We also welcome what he said that all artistes are free to hold shows within the 50 people threshold as prescribed by the Ministry of Health and Child Care with respect to Covid-19 protocols. We urge artistes to abide by that directive,” said Deputy Minister Machakaire.
Both Muridzo and Chief Hwenje said they were equally excited by the donation, adding they would do justice to it by working hard to entertain their fans.
They said they were happy by what President Mnangagwa said that they could hold shows within the prescribed conditions, adding that they will abide by the directive.
“We are happy with these instruments, this is what oils our work, it’s a burden that has been removed from us.
“The equipment will help me in polishing my upcoming 15-track album that I will launch next month. More importantly we are happy that President Mnangagwa said we can hold shows under the clearly set out conditions,” said Muridzo.
Chief Hwenje had this to say: “Many people have had unfulfilled promises, but in our case the Deputy Minister lived to his word. We have been patient. It is a lesson that we would want to share with others.
“We are equally happy with the decision allowing us to hold shows under these conditions. This will go a long way in helping us and we pledge to abide by the conditions,” he said. The instruments include Public Address system, mixers, drum set and guitars.- state media

Exercise is a great stress reliever.
If you suffer from irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and you feel an urgent need to go every time your boss pings you, your mother-in-law texts, or your friends change plans at the last minute, it’s time to focus on the stress that could be triggering your symptoms. After all, IBS is a breakdown in the signals the brain sends to the gut and the gut sends back to the brain — and this bodily response can be caused by stress, according to the International Foundation for Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders (IFFGD).
“Stress increases the hormone cortisol, and it can impact our digestive system,” says Megan Riehl, PsyD, a gastrointestinal psychologist at Michigan Medicine in Ann Arbor.
“People with IBS have trouble down-regulating digestive distress. For example, a person with IBS may feel the digestive process with some gurgling or discomfort and that sets off stress signals and a fear that they will need the bathroom urgently.”
A study published in April 2021 in the American Journal of Gastroenterology found that participants living with IBS who reported experiencing anxiety and stress were more likely to report more severe symptoms, cycle through more treatments, and say their symptoms negatively impacted their daily life than patients who did not report psychological distress.
“Behavioral treatments for IBS are needed as a complement to medicine to get patients over the finish line,” says Brennan Spiegel, MD a gastroenterologist and the director of health services research at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles. “Patients need to develop skills and train their brain to overcome the symptoms of IBS, and that means combating stress.”
So if you’re living with IBS, make sure you’re not neglecting to manage your stress levels, as they can significantly impact your gastrointestinal symptoms. Here are three ways to reduce IBS-related stress.
5 Exercises for IBS Symptom Relief
The Ultimate Expert-Approved Diet Plan for a Happier, Less-Stressed You
“Exercise helps boost our endorphins and lower cortisol levels, which means we feel happier and less stressed,” says Dr. Riehl. “That’s when the brain and gut send much more favorable signals to each other.”
The American Psychological Association points out that an exercise habit increases levels of norepinephrine, a hormone and neurotransmitter that helps decrease stress. Exercise also trains the mind to cope with anxiety and panic.
“Stress makes for shallow, short breaths,” she says. “When we slow our breathing down, we kick-start the parasympathetic system that calms us down and gives a nice massage to the digestive organs. That reduces spasming and urgency.”
One technique she is particularly fond of is diaphragmatic breathing, which involves slow and deep breathing that affects the brain as well as the cardiovascular, respiratory, and gastrointestinal systems.
A study published in June 2017 in Frontiers in Psychology divided 40 people into two groups; one control group and one group who received training in diaphragmatic breathing. After eight weeks, the group who received breathing training had lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol and were less prone to negative emotions.
In a study published in the September 2016 issue of Alimentary Pharmacology and Therapeutics, 72 percent of participants found that their symptoms improved after they followed gut-directed hypnotherapy, and they maintained the improvement for at least six months.
“We need to standardize holistic treatments like gut-directed hypnosis that specifically target the communication of the gut-brain axis,” says Dr. Spiegel.
“When patients have failed everything else, they succeed at this as long as they’re open to trying it,” notes Riehl. “We can develop the skills to stop the brain from perseverating on GI-specific worries. For example, we can start to retrain the mind when someone is always imagining that they will have a bowel accident in public.
“It’s how we identify and think about IBS in our day-to-day life that can make [our symptoms] better or worse,” she adds.-

Former first lady, Grace Ntombizodwa Mugabe nee Marufu has spoken on Chief Zvimba’s order that directed her to initiate the exhumation and reburial of the remains of the late former president Robert Mugabe.
Through her lawyers from Chimwamurombe Legal Practice, Grace expressed concern over the manner in which the case was handled. Among many issues her court papers cited, Grace noted:
the summonses were not even served in the required manner by the rules of the court.
The judgment has several penalties or orders which expect compliance by July 1, 2021.
Having had sight of the referenced judgment, we have identified critical procedural and substantive law defects that must be corrected by this court to attain real and substantial justice in the judicial process and additionally rein in the community court presiding officer from overstretching their lawful operation as a judicial officer
There is no information that has been provided to show the substantial legal interest that fits with the plaintiff (Tinos Manongovere), thereby, prompting him to approach the court vis-à-vis the aforementioned choice of law process.
The summons issued on April 29 by the chief already carried a sentence of five cattle and one goat.
This was made before the attendance and later on conviction of Grace Mugabe. The ultimate hearing was, therefore, manifestly biased since the sentence was already predetermined.
Chief Zvimba failed to observe one of the cardinal principles of natural justice by making an order directing the disposal of property that belonged to the estate of the late Mugabe in the absence of the lawful custodian of such property.
Grace speaks days after her three children, Bona Mutsahuni Mugabe, Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe and Tinotenda Robert Mugabe argued that Chief Zvimba had no authority to preside over the case.
Mugabe’s nephew Patrick Zhuwao recently sensationally claimed on South African broadcaster, SABC that President Emmerson Mnangagwa was behind the exhumation and reburial of the veteran leader to recover a mystical sceptre that would give him commanding authority as a leader.- NewsDay
By A Correspondent- Serious water woes have hit Temba Mliswa’s Norton Town following the cutting off of water supplies by Harare City Council over an alleged debt.
Norton Town Council secretary Mr Kizito Muhomba has confirmed, but could not give the exact figures of the debt.
“We are making a payment plan. We will need some time to clear the debt, as it is huge,” he said.
Mr Muhomba however, said the bills per month have lately become astronomical. Sources say the debt is estimated to be over US$2 million debt.
By A correspondent- Members of the Zimbabwe Republic Police were bashed yesterday by angry Bulawayo residents after they had burnt down three commuter omnibuses which they had accused of operating illegally.
The drama started when police chased after a commuter omnibus, which was then involved in an accident at the corner of Herbert Chitepo Street and Five Avenue.
Fungai Maphosa, a vendor who witnessed the skirmishes, said during the melee, police beat up anyone near the accident scene.
“That is when a mob of people intervened to rescue the kombi driver, and they assaulted the police officers in anger as to why they were beating up the driver instead of attending to the accident victims,” Maphosa said.
“The police officers ran away and returned some minutes later armed with teargas and they started throwing it into the kombis. During the melee, three kombis were burnt.”
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident but declined to give details.
“Yes, we are still attending to the case, but you will have to talk to Assistant Commissioner (Paul) Nyathi too since police officers were injured and their vehicle was also damaged,” Ncube said.
Bulawayo Progressive Residents Association chairperson Ambrose Sibindi castigated the police for putting people’s lives at risk while ignoring serious robbery cases in the city.

By A Correspondent- former Constitutional and Parliamentary Affairs minister Eric Matinenga, has ganged up with lawyers Beatrice Mtetwa and Valerie Ingham-Thorpe to challenge recent constitutional amendments which they say are illegal.
Together with Veritas, a human rights trust, the three want the courts to set aside Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment (No 1) Act of 2017, and Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment (No 2) Act of 2021.
Matinenga, who is former Buhera West MP (MDC Alliance), superintended over the 2013 Constitution-making process which began in 2009.
It was endorsed in a referendum, where over 93% of Zimbabweans voted in favour of the new Constitution that succeeded the Lancaster House Constitution.
They argued that the amendments would return the country to the “dark days” and were dangerous.
Underfire Chief Justice Luke Malaba, President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the Parliament of Zimbabwe were cited as respondents.
The four applicants want the apex court to set aside the two amendments they say were taking Zimbabwe back to the era of the late former President Robert Mugabe, where power was concentrated in an individual.
“The basic structure of the Constitution of Zimbabwe is predicated on the principle of separation of powers, and independence of the Judiciary. I maintain that any Constitutional Bill or Act affecting the basic structure of the Constitution is against the peace, order and good governance of Zimbabwe and is, therefore, unconstitutional,” Matinenga’s application read in part.
“The mischief that the 2013 Constitution tried to deal with was to create a break with the past in respect of where those appointed on the Judiciary became extensions of the Executive.
“In 2017, for instance, there was legal drama with regards to the appointment of the Chief Justice pursuant to the retirement of the late Chief Justice (Godfrey) Chidyausiku. It was perceived at the time that the Executive had its own preference other than Justice Luke Malaba.
“It eliminates and liquidates the former provision and creates a new regime of imperial authoritarian consolidation through the office of an executive President, something which was against the essence of the old Constitution.”
He said there was no criteria in the amendments in which the President would reject a judge, or accept another after reaching the age of 70.
“This is sad and unacceptable. Furthermore, notwithstanding the provisions of section 328(7) of the Constitution, which makes it clear that where there is a change in the Constitution increasing the term of office of an individual, the same shall not benefit the incumbent, section 186(4), creates the impression that the incumbents are intended to benefit. Section 186(4) is dangerous. It is an attempt to side-step section 328(7), without going to a referendum or without following any of the procedures for amending section 328.”
Matinenga said the appointments of judges were no longer transparent and accountable as they would be in the hands of the President alone.
He said the running mate issue was of major concern as it had been raised following the long period that Mugabe had stayed in office, and it was felt there was a gap in the succession policy.
“Peace and stability was compromised. The new provision now creates uncertainty and instability. Like the Lancaster House Constitution, it now shifts the burden of succession to a political party. Those political parties are often fractured and divided and advancing limited party interests instead of national interests,” he said.
Their challenge follows similar applications by other actors, who wanted the amendments to be set aside
These include the Zimbabwe NGO Forum executive director Musa Kika, the Young Lawyers Association of Zimbabwe, and war veteran Fredrick Matanda, who successfully challenged Mnangagwa’s extension of Malaba’s term of office.
Opposition MDC Alliance MP for Chitungwiza North Godfrey Sithole also raised similar objections in his application at the apex court last week seeking an order nullifying the Senate vote of April 2021 on the Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment (No 1) Bill.
However, last week, a little-known Zanu PF youth league member, Marx Mapungu, filed a Constitutional Court application seeking to nullify a judgment that ended Malaba’s term as Chief Justice. Mapungu is being represented by constitutional lawyer Lovemore Madhuku.

By EU- We wish to extend our gratitude to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade for holding today’s third session of formal Political Dialogue between the Republic of Zimbabwe and the European Union.
We appreciate that our deliberations have again taken place at the Ministerial level, thank you for your presence, Honourable Minister. It is also the first time we have this formal engagement after you took office. On behalf of my colleagues and on my own behalf I would like to congratulate you on your nomination and wish you the best of luck for carrying out your duties. Honourable Minister, we look forward to a close, constructive and fruitful cooperation.
This was the third formal political dialogue between the European Union and the Republic of Zimbabwe in the sense of the Cotonou Partnership. The dialogue provides a useful platform to exchange views on topics that are of common interest, and identify areas where we can deepen our relationship but equally on issues we might not agree upon and wish to foster mutual understanding. As we know, the Cotonou agreement is coming to its end later this year. We in Europe count on a continued close cooperation with the African, Caribbean and the Pacific States due to the political accord and the initialling of a follow-up agreement to Cotonou last month. Zimbabwe played an important role in achieving that accord.
The year 2021 is important also because the European Union is embarking on a new multiannual financial cycle. The new cycle will run from 2021 to 2027. We are busy also planning for our new cooperation for those years with Zimbabwe under the new “Global Europe” financial instrument.
Today’s discussions have taken place after more than a year under the COVID-19 pandemic, which has had an impact and continues to have an impact on Zimbabwe as well as on the rest of the world. We exchanged views on Zimbabwe’s COVID-19 response, the EU’s action and assistance and the waysforward. The EU is fully committed to address the disproportionate impacts of the pandemic and its consequences; especially on the most vulnerable.
Furthermore, we discussed human rights, democratisation, rule of law and good governance. The EU reaffirmed the need to pay special attention to these topics, also with the growing impact the global pandemic is having on these shared values. We are concerned about a shrinking democratic space, the lack of progress in addressing reports of violations of human rights by the security forces and in thoroughly investigating reported cases of forced disappearances.
In February, the EU adopted a EU27 declaration (i.e. by the High Representative on behalf of the European Union) on Zimbabwe. In this context, the EU reviewed its restrictive measures, and decided to renew its arms embargo and to maintain a targeted assets freeze against one company, Zimbabwe Defence Industries, taking into account the situation in Zimbabwe, including the continuing need to investigate the role of security force actors in human rights abuses. With this statement, the EU reminded the Government of Zimbabwe that it had committed to adhere to its constitutional and international human rights obligations. Furthermore, the EU welcomed further opportunities for
1
continued dialogue and engagement with Zimbabwe and reiterated its ambition for a moreconstructive relationship. We believe today’s meeting was an important milestone in these endeavours.
Of importance was also the topic of economic development. After two consecutive years for Zimbabwe with negative growth, economic recovery is paramount to improve the serious humanitarian and socio-economic situation, which has been further exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic. We acknowledged the efforts to stabilize the macro-economic situation. The European Union stands ready to continue supporting the Zimbabwean people in the current socio-economic challenges. For this, the Government should share its views on the needs and increase its own contribution to social sectors. We believe that structural reforms are a prerequisite for Zimbabwe to enter an economically, socially and environmentally sustainable growth path.
A long-term solution to the challenges Zimbabwe is facing calls also for transparency and combatting corruption. We encouraged Zimbabwe to persevere in implementing and adhering to much needed reforms. Real progress will pave the way for a stronger relationship between Zimbabwe and the EU.
At today’s meeting, we also touch upon the EU-Zimbabwe relations in the context of the wider relations of our two continents, Europe and Africa, and we look forward to further deliberations on the preparations for the EU-AU summit and other pan-African and pan-European issues.
Honourable Minister, we would like to express our appreciation for the continuation of a formal Political Dialogue with Zimbabwe. We wish to deepen our common engagement in this format, and we would suggest that we, in addition to the high-level dialogue, also allow for a more structured sectoral policy dialogue with line Ministries. We look forward to our future engagement.

By A Correspondent- The European Union said it would slap President Emmerson Mnangagwa with fresh sanctions if he ignores to observe the constitution.
The western bloc said this in a statement after the re-engagement dialogue meeting they had this week with Harare.
“Furthermore, we discussed human rights, democratisation, rule of law and good governance. The EU reaffirmed the need to pay special attention to these topics, also with the growing impact the global pandemic is having on these shared values.
“We are concerned about a shrinking democratic space, the lack of progress in addressing reports of violations of human rights by the security forces and in thoroughly investigating reported cases of forced disappearances,” said EU in a statement.

Self-confessed fake prophet Jay Israel has torn into the late TB Joshua questioning why he decided not to use his anointed oil, stickers, and water to heal himself.
Prophet Jay Israel took to Facebook alleging that TB Joshua had a chronic illness and he was on medication for the past two years.
Prophet Jay Israel wrote:
MY COMMENT ON TB JOSHUA !!
•••
I remember last year we did an expose on this man, talking about his deceptions, lies and manipulations. Many people have flocked into Nigeria to buy anointed water, stickers and oils that he claimed can heal any sickness. Here is a very interesting analogy. For the past 2 years TB Joshua was on medication 0, popping pills because he had a chronic illness.
None of this was made public because it would demoralise the water and oil customers and shut down the business. If this man was a true man of God why didn’t he use his anointed water, oil and stickers to heal himself?
The problem with our naive and senseless African brothers and sisters is that no matter the signs they will forever be blinded by religion. Before he died he was a false prophet, a thief, liar and a charlatan and now that he’s gone nothing changes, he remains the biggest Charlatan to ever walk on earth. Whether he makes heaven or hell that is between him and God .
May his soul rest in peace !!
Prophet TB Joshua, founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) died last weekend after conducting a church service.
According to some sources, the man of cloth passed away around 2am, hours after he walked to his apartment from a church service to get some rest.
Last year, Jay Israel came out clean exposing how he used satanic dead pigeons, red towels and a horn to gain power, wealth and popularity while running a cult at his church, Times Live reported.
Israel, who was born in Zimbabwe, gave an account of how, when he joined a cult in Benin, he believed he was able to prophesy and make people do what he wanted them to do.
He told the Commission for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Communities (CRL Rights Commission) on Monday that he started a church in Harare at the age of 18.
Opening a church in SA, according to Israel is easy.
“It’s not much of a hustle. We started a gathering and when people gathered, it was a church before it was even registered.”
While still in Zimbabwe, Israel met a man from Ghana through Facebook who promised to help him grow his church.
“We started talking. He said he would take me to places and help me get bigger crowds.
“I asked him how? He said he could even help with prophesying. I was intrigued. I was excited. I invited him to Zimbabwe,” Israel said.
He left for Ghana with the man and they then went to Benin where he was introduced to an elderly man.
“We took a long drive to this village. As we were getting to the village, we saw so many kids. I asked why there were so many kids?”
He said the man told him that the children were kidnapped and brought to the country as sacrifices.
“The kids are used for black sacrifice. Their blood was used to sacrifice. It scared me a bit…”
The old man asked him what he wanted and Israel said he told him that he wanted his church to grow.
“I said I want spiritual power and I want to see crowds and I want to prophesy and tell people things about themselves.”
He said he was told a ritual for protection would be done before he could get what he wanted.
“We slept in a room. It was scary. There were sculptures smeared with blood.
“Many people across the world do not know what prophets do before they can lead people. I am not saying the power of God is not there, but we have messengers who are sent straight from hell to represent heaven. People are manipulated into believing that what they are told comes from God, yet it is not close from being from God.
“The man came with a razor. He used a black substance and rubbed it onto the cuts on my body.
“I was washed with water mixed with leaves. They took pigeons and cut them and smeared their blood all over me and they said this is now the process of initiation.”
After this procedure, Israel said he was told that he would be introduced to the god that he would be worshipping.
He was told the name of the god was Atiovi.
“The following day we went to another room where this god was. There was a lot of blood all over [the room]. It sounds like an African movie. It’s so unreal but it is what it is.”
He said he was told to kneel and bow down before the god. He was also told what to say to the god.
“They said, ‘OK, the initiation is done, we are going to give you a horn.’ It was a bighorn and I kept it in my bag.”
The horn had a “head” inside which was a substance.
Israel said the horn was covered with a red cloth. He was told to use it before his church services.
“They said when you go back to your country, you must make a sacrifice to the god [the horn] before you go into a church service. They said you kill a pigeon or chicken and take its blood and smear it on the horn. I was told to take gin and spit it on the head of the horn and say the words and lick it [blood] with your tongue.”
This was an “entry-level” sacrifice, he said.
“I believe if I was persistent I was going to do human sacrifice because it’s like a drug. It’s addictive…”
He said he was not forced to join a cult but that he joined so he could have the power to be able to call out people’s names and do things he could not do on his own.
According to Israel, “mega” churches use human sacrifices to remain wealthy and powerful.
While involved in the cult, Israel said he was introduced to a demonic bible and other books on how to manipulate and deceive people to get whatever he wanted.
He would conduct “Do as I say services” when he started a church in East London.
He would use a red towel to get people to give him whatever he wanted.
“I brought towels and I gave them to people. Before I could get them to people, I would demonstrate what the towel could do. Whatever I tell the towel to do is what the towel will make you do.
“I would put the towel over a person’s head and they would fall down.”
He used certain words to control crowds at church which his followers thought was him speaking in tongues. He would use bible scriptures to make people give money to the church. He would deceive his followers into believing that if they did not pay tithes, they were robbing God.
“The growth of the church did not mean people were growing spiritually. It was all about what I am getting at the end of this. After leaving everything with you, they [congregants] will find it important to come back to you and thank you for wiping them clean.”
He said he was living a high-end life with several cars and bodyguards.
People gave their most prized possessions to him.
“I would appear in people’s dreams and tell them what I want from them. They would come and say, ‘I saw prophet in my dreams telling me to give him my car.’
“If I want to bring fear to somebody, I would appear in their dreams and scare them. They would come and confess that they were questioning me.”
According to Israel, many people have been enslaved spiritually.
Israel said his occult life exhausted him to a point where he resorted to women, alcohol and drugs.
“I loved the rough life. I did not like church women.”
He said he left the cult because he got tired of slaughtering chickens as a sacrifice.
“I got tired of sacrificing chickens. I bought a lot of chickens to a point where people would ask me why I was buying too many chickens.”
When he wanted to get out of the cult, Israel said he started having bad dreams and he could not sleep at night.
“I could not sleep because of the dreams that were haunting me spiritually.”
He said he was told that if he did not renew the muthi he would be killed.
Israel claims to have apologised to the people he deceived and says he has returned all the possessions he received while running the cult.
Evans Rusike is leaving SuperSport United at the end of this month, club CEO Stan Matthews has confirmed.
Rusike’s deal is expiring on June 30 and the Pretoria-based side will not renew it. He will be released along with midfielder Lucky Mohomi.
According to Matthews, the pair has done little to convince the coach and they will not accommodate them anymore.
“On both players, we elected not to take their options as they didn’t do enough to convince the coach they could cement their place in the starting line-up. We can’t be accommodating players who seem happy to sit on the bench,” Matthews told Soccer Laduma.
“We appreciate their contributions, especially that Evans made in helping us lift the MTN8 and in reaching three consecutive finals and we wish him well at his future club. We hope he too goes on to future success.”
Rusike joined Matsatsantsa in 2018 on a three-year-old but his final season has been marred by nagging injuries and played second fiddle to on-fire Bradley Grobler.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe
By A Correspondent- Advocate Fadzayi Mahere has come to the defence of a 19-year-old girl, Tariro Mututsa who killed a 40-year-old would-be rapist.
Mahere speaks as Mututsa has been charged with murder after repeatedly striking Sure Tsuro with a log until he could not walk.
Tsuro died hours later at a neighbour’s home in Nyenda Village, Kotwa. Speaking on the case, Mahere, a law lecturer at the University of Zimbabwe said:
_If a man is about to rape you, you’re entitled to act in self-defence. This is also a case where provocation would avail as a defence. I hope this brave young woman gets the necessary legal representation she needs to defend her._
_May justice be done._
An internal police memo by the Member in Charge of Kotwa Police Post, seen by ZimLivePolice suggests that Tsuro approached Mututsa around 10 AM on June 7 and proposed love but was turned down.
Tsuro threatened to throw away rice that was in a pot on the fireplace but later withdrew his intention and brought the pot back before going away.
He returned at around 9 PM but Matutsa once again turned him down prompting him to spill the boiling pot containing meat in protest.
Tsuro suddenly produced his erect privates and charged towards Mututsa who took glowing firewood, extinguished it using water and assaulted the now deceased several times on the legs and hands and twice on the head.
Tsuro staggered, walked out of the yard and fell to the ground 10 meters away.
Matutsa called her neighbour Patricia Makwanya who arrived at the scene with Kudzanayi Tsuro, a relative of the would-be rapist.
They helped Tsuro to Makwanya’s home where he was placed in a kitchen hut to sleep for the night. He that night.

Prince Dube is still wanted by a couple of clubs in Europe, his manager Gibson Mahachi has said.
The Zimbabwean striker, who was linked with French sides before moving to Tanzania last year, is having an impressive campaign that has seen him netting fourteen goals in the league to lead the scoring chart.
According to Mahachi, this has attracted also of the attention of teams in Middle East and North Africa.
“There have been inquiries from all over, but I cannot name the clubs. All I can say is that interest has come from Europe, North Africa and Saudi Arabia,” Mahachi was quoted as saying by NewsDay.
“It is just a matter of waiting. Most clubs have been active and now it is off-season, so we will see. We have had inquiries, but now we will see what can work.”
Dube recently signed a new two-year contract with Azam and Mahachi has explained that the deal contains a release clause.
The agent added: “Not much changed from his first contract, except to say it’s an improved deal and it still has a release clause. If he (Dube) wants to move, he can move and if anybody puts an offer and it is below the release clause, they negotiate with Azam.”- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

By A Correspondent- Department of Social Development has confirmed that Gosiame Thamara Sithole, who recently gave birth to 10 kids, was found and had been a client of the department since 2016.
She has been in touch with social workers who helped her with a few things.
This statement came after many social media users started questioning whether the story of her giving birth was fake or not.
Yesterday, the Department of Health stated that it had no record of the mother. It also stated that government had noted media reports and social media posts alleging that a South African woman had given birth to 10 babies, reportedly breaking the world record.
The department said that it would be sending its social workers to assess the family’s situation.
Its spokesperson Feziwe Ndwayana said the mum was at a place of safety, healing and bonding with her kids.
Ndwayana further said when the family was ready, they would meet the MEC to congratulate and assist her with resources they might need.
In a tweet, Ekurhuleni Mayor Mzwandile Masina said: “We’ve found the family and we are informed the babies are well. We will share the information with national government. I know we were a joke yesterday when government was genuinely looking for the family. Some of our local comrades have been assisting the family, so we are good.”

Metro traffic cops in Bulawayo were accused of shifting blame after allegedly burning down two kombis in the city center on Wednesday and then telling their boss in an internal memo that the commuter omnibuses had been set ablaze by “unruly elements” who even assaulted officers.
Multiple eyewitness accounts said the kombis caught fire and blistered to shells after police tossed tear gas canisters inside them following high-speed pursuit as officers tried to arrest the drivers on accusations of operating without ZUPCO licensing. Fire crews were deployed to no avail.
Government banned all kombis last year and ordered those wanting to operate to register with the state-owned bus company to create a monopoly that is being challenged in court.
“They threw in teargas, and when the vehicles started burning, the police fled,” one observer told ZimLive. “This should never be tolerated, not under any circumstances.”
Another accused the police of acting like a “gang of criminals.”
But an internal memo seen by ZimLive from the officer commanding Bulawayo metro traffic to the officer commanding Bulawayo province bears a different account of events.
“The people who caused the pandemonium are suspected to be money changers, non-ZUPCO commuter omnibus drivers, vendors, and touts who are defying the government’s directive to observe Covid-19 rules and regulations. They want to vent their anger on the law enforcers,” the junior officer wrote.
The officers said trouble started when they tried to arrest the driver of an unregistered Toyota Hiace which was dropping off passengers “in the middle of the road along Herbert Chitepo, between 5th and 6th Avenue.”
But, said the memo, the driver took off and hit the front door of a police Ford Fiesta being driven by a Constable Hanyire, prompting a hot pursuit that ended with the suspect crashing into another vehicle before bailing on foot.
And when two officers, Constable Tlou and Constable Dube gave chase and apprehend the driver, a “mob surrounded and assaulted [them] with open hands, ordering them to release the accused person. The accused managed to free himself and ran away. However, his picture was captured.”
“The public, mostly money-changers [oSiphatheleni], vendors and touts around the area gathered around [police] vehicle number ZRP 379R shouting ‘asiwafuni amaShona lawa koBulawayo, asitshiseni imota’ [we don’t want these Shonas in Bulawayo, let’s torch their car],” the police memo explained.
“Some were shaking it trying to overturn and at the same time threatening to burn it down. The police officers then locked themselves inside the police vehicle. The mob smashed the rear windscreen and rear right side passenger window with unknown objects.”
As the situation degenerated and became more precarious, police claimed, reinforcements were called in to disperse the restive crowd with teargas along Hebert Chitepo road, attracting what they said were “wayward commuter omnibus drivers” who “started skidding.”
The memo added: “After the crowds had dispersed, it was discovered that a white and black Toyota Hiace being driven by Julius Ncube of Magwegwe and owned by Lewis Tshuma caught fire at H. Chitepo Street and 5th Avenue.”
While the circumstances that led to the entanglement of the second kombi were not clearly explained, police said it was owned by Mackenzie Matshezi of Old Pumula, adding that it caught “fire along 4th Avenue, between H. Chitepo Street and Lobengula Street.”
The driver was identified as Tawanda Nyoni, 33.
“It is suspected that the unruly elements took advantage of the situation and set the two commuter omnibuses on fire and picked canisters and placed them in the burnt vehicles,” the police claimed boldly.
They said four officers had received medical treatment at Camp Hospital and discharged in stable condition, with their injuries varying from “a cut above the right eye” to “a right wrist dislocation and “a painful neck.”
Police said the suspects face charges of assault of law enforcement officers and malicious damage to property after one of their vehicles “sustained shattered rear windscreen, rear right side passenger window, and offside rearview mirror.”
Hearing the police account, one witness said dismissively, “It’s laughable, not in a funny way
Namibian journalist and sports broadcaster Jessica demanded that her co-anchor address her in a certain way not realising that they were live on air.
After making some introductory remarks, eating into her script, of course, Jessica’s coanchor over and the latter could not have it. She said:
_No, we are not going to do that! You’re just going to greet me and say: Take it away._
Jessica has since apologised to the nation saying that she was not aware that they were live on air. She said:_There’s no any beef between us, my colleague forgot the script and I was just trying to correct her but I forgot we were live. That’s it_
Many are asking how on earth could Jessica forget that they are on air? But, even live television is rehearsed. She probably did forget, and that is why a dry run before going on air is so important.
Some are saying while it could be true that there was no enmity between Jessica and her colleague, the way she corrected her was mean.
Another clip in which Jessica was wrongly addressed as Janet has also surfaced prompting observers to sympathise with her.
They say she had had enough errors from her colleagues and that probably made her forget that she was now live on air

It was discovered that the deceased was stabbed on the back of the left thigh and his body was lying on thick shrubs facing the side of the road,” said Insp Ncube.
He said the victim’s body was taken to United Bulawayo Hospitals for postmortem.
“Police are appealing for information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects. If ever there might be people who happened to see which mode of transport the deceased used on the fateful day,” said Insp Ncube.
Meanwhile, Insp Ncube said officers commanding provinces have issued a three-month prohibition order on carrying of dangerous weapons following the rise in dangerous crimes citywide.
He said members of the public found carrying catapults, machetes, axes, knobkerries, swords, knives, spears or daggers will be arrested for violating the prohibition order.
By A Correspondent- A 62 year old Shurugwi man allegedly attempted to buy his freedom by offering US$5 to the uncle of a nine-year-old girl who walked on him while he was rap_ing his niece.
The man, the court heard, allegedly rap_ed the minor in her mother’s kitchen as she was giving him water to drink.
Instead of drinking the water, the man allegedly rap_ed the girl while her siblings were playing outside.
Her uncle only came in as the man was rap_ing the girl before dressing up and offered him a US$5 bribe to conceal the matter.
This was heard yesterday when the man appeared before Gweru regional magistrate Mrs Phathekile Msipa facing one count of rap_e.
He pleaded not guilty and was remanded in custody to today for judgement.
It is the State’s case that on November 6 last year at around 11am, the complainant was playing with her two siblings aged seven and one year at a road near their homestead.
Their mother had gone to a funeral wake.
The court heard that the man, who was walking along the road saw the minors and asked the complainant for water to drink.
The man allegedly gave the complainant’s seven-year-old brother his catapult and asked him to shoot some birds.
While inside the kitchen, the man sat on the bench while the complainant fetched him water.
When she brought him the water the man allegedly asked her to sit on his thighs and she complied.
He allegedly started removing the minor’s clothes but she resisted and tried to flee.
Opposition MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa yesterday demanded that government should compensate party activists Last Maengahama and Tungamirai Madzokere, who clocked eight years at Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison for a murder charge which was quashed by the Supreme Court last week.
Maengahama and Madzokere were arrested in Glen View, Harare, in 2011 on a charge of killing a police officer Petros Mutedza.
Chamisa yesterday visited the pair, where he said government should also compensate victims of Gukurahundi massacres and the 2005 Operation Murambatsvina that rendered thousands homeless.
“There is a need for them to be compensated. If it was a normal country, the government should just come and compensate them. If this government can’t do that, the MDC Alliance government will compensate and apologise to them.
“We must apologise to the victims and compensate for the victims of Gukurahundi. I apologised in Matabeleland when I went there because that’s what leaders do. A lot of people were harmed by Operation Murambatsvina and people’s pensions were eroded. A lot of people died in June 2008 and a country with angry people cannot prosper,” Chamisa said.
Commenting on the Mbuya Nehanda statue erected in central Harare last month, Chamisa said: “Some said I attacked Mbuya Nehanda. Those who worked for our liberation are our heroes and national heroines. We respect them, but we don’t idolise them. We respect them and it ends there, we pray only to God.”
He lamented that most youth in the country were turning to drugs.
“We have a condemned generation because of these drugs. The biggest drug is the government that does not respect its people.”
He blasted government for demolishing vendors’ structures, saying “its demon of destruction must be exorcised”.

Harare, Zimbabwe, June 9, 2021- The United States government has contributed, through the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARPA), US$3.5 billion to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB, and Malaria (the Global Fund) COVID-19 Response Mechanism (C19RM), as part of the broader U.S. government’s global COVID-19 response and recovery strategy. The funds from the U.S. government support the Global Fund’s second phase of C19RM, which seeks to alleviate the effects of COVID-19 on the Global Fund’s AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria programs and to strengthen health and community systems.
The Global Fund has allocated US$75-150 million to Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe can secure the funds through an evidence-based grant proposal to run from 2021-2022 to respond to the devastating COVID-19 pandemic and mitigate the impact of the pandemic in the fight against HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria, and strengthen health and community systems. The base allocation of US$75 million amounts to 15% of Zimbabwe’s 2021-2023 Global Fund allocation. Zimbabwe can apply for an additional US$75 million, and the funds should be used by December 31, 2023.
The resources harnessed under the ARPA, with the generosity of the American people, and disbursed through the Global Fund will provide funds to countries for:
I.COVID-19 control and containment interventions, such as personal protective equipment, diagnostics, treatment, communications, and other measures as specified by the World Health Organization;
II. COVID-19-related risk mitigation measures for programs to fight the three diseases of AIDS, TB, and malaria; and
III. Strengthening of health and community systems, including support to key aspects of health systems, such as laboratory networks, supply chains, and community-led response systems.
Working closely with the government of Zimbabwe and health development partners, the C19RM funds complement existing funding sources, such as World Bank, World Health Organization, other UN Agencies, bilateral assistance, and individual USG agencies, such as the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). The U.S. Embassy has provided over US$20M in support of the COVID-19 response in Zimbabwe.
The United States Government remains committed to working together with the Government of Zimbabwe, through the Ministry of Health and Child Care, multilateral organizations, partner governments, and civil society organizations, to fight the COVID-19 pandemic and other public health threats, for Zimbabweans to live safer, healthier, and longer lives.
By A Correspondent- A 19 year-old woman killed a se_x pest who dangled his peni_s at her, police said.
Tariro Matutsa has been charged with murder after repeatedly striking Sure Tsuro, 40, with a log until he could not walk. He died hours later at a neighbour’s home.
Police said at around 10AM on June 7, the young woman was alone at her home in Nyenda Villlage preparing rice for breakfast when Tsuro arrived.
“Tsuro proposed love to the accused person who turned him down. Tsuro went on to take a pot containing rice from the fireplace and threatened to throw it away in protest. He later withdrew his intention and brought it back to the fireplace before going away,” an internal police memo by the Member in Charge of Kotwa Police Post, seen by ZimLive, said.
At around 9PM, police said Tsuro returned to the Nyaguno homestead where Matutsa lived. She was once again alone and preparing meat for supper.
“Tsuro went on to propose love demanding consent for se_xual intercourse from Matutsa. The accused person again turned him down. The now deceased went on to spill a boiling pot containing meat in protest. The accused picked up the pieces of meat from the ground and washed them with water,” the police memo said.
“Tsuro persisted, demanding to have se_xual intercourse with Matutsa, and the accused person refused. Tsuro suddenly produced his erect peni_s and charged towards the accused person. The accused person took a glowing piece of firewood, extinguished it using water that was in a bucket at the fireplace, and assaulted the now deceased several times on the legs and hands.
“The accused person also assaulted the now deceased twice on the head using the same log. Tsuro staggered away from the fireplace and walked out of the yard. He fell to the ground 10 meters away in middle of a dirt road leading to Jumbe Business Centre.”
Police said Matutsa called her neighbour Patricia Makwanya who was at the shops at Jumbe nearby. She arrived at the scene with Kudzanayi Tsuro, a relative of the would-be rapi_st.
They helped Tsuro to Makwanya’s home where he was placed in a kitchen hut to sleep for the night.
Makwanya, according to police, went to bed at around 11.30PM. The following morning, she went to check on Tsuro in the company of Melody Chakura and found him dead.
Police were called and found Tsuro’s body on the floor facing upwards covered with a blanket. He had bruises on both legs, a swollen left hand and two open wounds – one on the right arm and one below the left knee.
Police said they also observed swelling on the left side of the chest and two cuts with clots on the head.
“The log used by the accused to assault the now deceased was recovered and is being held as exhibit. Tsuro’s body was conveyed to Murewa District Hospital pending a postmortem,” police said

By A Correspondent | Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi who has officially put High Court Judges into the firing line with the army, has to date declined commenting over allegations that he on Saturday traveled to Domboshawa to get Norton MP Temba Mliswa killed. Ziyambi was contacted by ZimEye several times having gone on record saying he will not speak.
Mliswa has produced a picture of Ziyambi’s car as evidence that Ziyambi truly traveled to Dombooshawa for the purpose as alleged.
This comes at a time when Ziyambi is threatening High Court judges and describing the jurists as foreign elements working to destabilize the country, putting them into the firing line with the army.
He at the end of last month said there was an external hand that was manipulating some judges to deliver judgements against government.
“I must also mention and make it very clear that we are aware of the multi-lateral and foreign organisations who have poured in a lot of money through the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights to capture various state institutions and to destabilise the Government,” he said.
“The situation now in this country is that there is a risk of judicial capture where the Judiciary has been captured by certain elements both within and outside Zimbabwe who want to destabilise the second Republic.
“We are aware of certain members of the opposition, the MDC Alliance, who are being paid monthly allowances for causing turmoil in this country and for being arrested.
“The time may now have come to expose all these malcontents and economic saboteurs who are not sleeping until they bring down the second Republic.
“We are going to poke the enemy in the eye and confront it.”
The state security ministry is currently on high alert over allegations that an unnamed Western nation wants to bring arms of war into Zimbabwe.
“Some rogue elements amongst us are conniving with some hostile Western governments to smuggle guns and set up so-called democratic resistance committees,” the State Security Minister, Owen Ncube said, in his most recent address last August.

Two Zimbabwean brothers have been jailed over an attempted murder incident using a machete. Benedict Zvekare (26), described as a dangerous attacker, is beginning a 20-year prison sentence after a “savage” daylight assault with a machete.
Benedict, who left his victim with severe injuries, was found guilty of attempted murder.
His brother Blessing (31), also of St John’s Road in Edlington, was convicted by the same Sheffield Crown Court jury and given three years for assisting an offender.
Det Insp Lee Townley, who led the investigation, described the incident, which happened as the victim walked along Balby Road with friends last September 28.
“At some point, a rock was thrown into the road and towards Zvekare’s vehicle, which was the catalyst for what happened next,” said the officer.
“Zvekare stopped his vehicle and got out, wildly brandishing a machete and shouting. He then began to chase after the group, joined by another man who was carrying a metal bar.
“Zvekare pursued his victim along the road, hitting him across the head with the machete, sending him flying to the ground. The victim’s ordeal did not end there, he was kicked and stabbed whilst lying at the men’s feet.
“As the pair ran back to their vehicle, which had moved closer to them, their victim managed to drag himself to a bus stop, where he collapsed.”
The victim, who had stab wounds and multiple rib fractures, was found a short time later by a passing fire crew.
CCTV footage and other inquiries led to Zvekare being arrested at home. A third man, Arif Chohan (41), of Thorne Road in Doncaster, was given two-and-a-half years in jail at the same hearing last Friday (4) for assisting an offender.
Det Insp Townley added: “This was an excessively violent and savage attack which happened in broad daylight in the middle of the street.
“Zvekare was armed and he was incredibly dangerous, it is right that he has received a significant sentence for his actions.
“I know that incidents like this do create concern and fear within local communities and I am keen for people to know that we do investigate, we do take action and we do bring people before the courts.”
By Problem Masau| South Africa based gospel singer Alpha Nhambure popularly known as Makoti want to dance for the Lord if her new offering is anything to go by.
The gospel diva has released her fourth studio titled “I Wanna Dance” which has ten songs.
“The album I Wanna Dance features 10 songs. It was first released in December 2020 ushering in the New Year 2021. The release was done on social media (Facebook, You-tube, Instagram and Sound Cloud).
“The album is now being launched on Zimbabwe’s biggest Radio station, the radio with the most listeners accounting to more than 40% of Zim radio listeners. My music’s main target audience is people in Zimbabwe. The music is mainly in Shona. As such launching it on Radio Zimbabwe would do justice to my music ministry and to my fans at large. Not many people are on social media hence this launch.
“In this current album I felt the need to bring my audience and myself to the dancing floor, hence the album title ‘I Wanna Dance’.
“Eight songs out of 10 from the album have a dancing beat. Daily we should dance to the Lord thanking Him for all that He has done and is doing in our lives; shaking off the daily troubles, weariness and stress and ushering in a new mood within ourselves. Statistics shows that people are more attracted to the dancing beat more than anything else, hence I took advantage of that to convey the Gospel message to the people,” she said.
Makoti said singing was her way of ministering to the multitudes.
“I believe I have a calling to minister the Gospel to the people in line with the Great Commission in Matthew 28 vs 19-20. I have been trained and ordained to Minister the Word at a Bible School. Hence this is part of my ministry to the people. After a long break from my album which I released in 2016, it was high time I go back to work,” she added.
Nhambure urged gospel artistes to complement each other as gospel music is not about competition but to save souls.
“I have advice to those who are starting in the Gospel arena. The main objective in singing Gospel music is to reach out to lost souls and bring them to God, to preach, to deliver, to praise and to worship God. If one’s motive is apart from this, then it is a lost cause. One must have the drive and the passion for God.
“In as much as some people want to live off singing Gospel, the main motive must not be money making. Also in as much as we all strive for excellence and want to see ourselves emerge on top of music charts, Gospel music is not a competition.
“It does not matter whether you make it to the charts or not, God works in amazing ways, as long as you have put your all in the project, perhaps God wanted you to reach out to just one person who had lost hope and has found it in your music. Do not give up. Do your best and God will do the rest,” she said.
The album has already been launched on ZimNet Radio.

The Covid-19 public health and lockdown regulations, although more relaxed than at the peak of infection waves, are still being enforced and people have been urged to take them seriously to prevent a third wave.
Almost all sectors of the economy are now allowed to open, and schools were re-opened although there are strict limits on religious and social gatherings as bars and nightclubs remain closed.
There are still many conditions, such as masking in public, maintaining social distancing and having sanitiser at business entrances, and there is still a 10pm to 5.30am curfew in place.
However, the public is relaxing and more people, as a result are being arrested daily for violating these regulations.
All major roads leading into town still have roadblocks where the public is being reminded that the measures are still in place. Many of these roadblocks are either activated at 10pm, or start stopping and quizzing all drivers at that time.
There is a schedule of permitted traffic during the curfew, mainly to do with commercial business deliveries and letting people who are in essential sectors move to and from work.
Officers are now reminding the nation that lockdown regulations are still in force and people should not relax as Covid-19 is still a big threat.
In an interview, national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi yesterday urged the public to continue to adhere to all regulations set by Government.
“The Covid-19 lockdown is still there and as police we remain guided by Government pronouncements. People should not relax. They should follow all the guidelines.
“We also urge the business sector to comply with these regulations. We are concerned by bar operators who continue to flout these regulations and operate illegally with some patrons threatening or harassing police officers who would be enforcing these lockdown measures. There is no going back in as far as enforcing lockdown regulations is concerned.”
Asst Comm Nyathi also warned kombis and mushikashika operators against operating illegally.- The Herald

The Honda Fit veered off the road and landed on its wheels in a ditch.
The deceased were ferried to Banket Hospital Mortuary while the injured are at the same hospital receiving treatment.
Asst Comm Nyathi said the haulage truck was heading in the direction of Harare while the Honda Fit was heading towards Chirundu.

The fight to wrest the Nelson Chamisa-led MDC Alliance party name and symbols by the MDC-T with the intention to use them in the forthcoming elections will be determined by which faction will file its nomination papers first under the MDC Alliance banner, a Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) official has said.
This comes in the wake of reports that the MDC-T led by Douglas Mwonzora is plotting to use the MDC Alliance name in by-elections and 2023 elections in a bid to confuse voters.
Zec director of elections and training Japhet Murenje yesterday told journalists at an elections workshop in Chinhoyi that the commission would only allow the MDC faction that will file its nomination papers first to use the MDC Alliance name as the issue could only be solved through a first-come-first-serve basis.
“If I have already received a symbol — say a maize cob, from one political party as a presiding officer then I will not accept the same symbol from another candidate from a different party,” Murenje said.
Murenje said Zec was not really worried about the names of the parties, adding that they pay more attention to party symbols.
“A party’s name might have same abbreviations which mean totally different things, and so we look at the symbols and we then say since we have already received a symbol similar to this one, we can’t take yours,” he said.
Zec chief elections officer Utoile Silaigwana said the issue of the MDC Alliance name had not been brought to the attention of the electoral commission.
“We know that there is a situation like that, but those people have never come to us, we have never had elections,” Silaigwana said.
He said the matter between Chamisa and Mwonzora had been settled by the courts and, therefore, should not be thrown at Zec.
“You know that the situation between those political parties was solved in the courts. I am not a lawyer but if I read generally, I understand that the court said the other one is no longer a president of a political party, but when you write we read that he is still the president, which is contrary to what the law says,” Silaigwana said.- Newsday

Wael Ghonim was a little-known, infamous , thirty-year-old Google executive in the summer of 2010 when he anonymously launched a Facebook page to protest the death of one Egyptian man at the hands of the thugocratic security forces led by Mubarak. The page’s discipleship boomed instantly and transformed from online protests to a non-confrontational and democratic movement. On 25 January, 2011, Tahrir Square resounded with powerful clarion calls for the complete change of the totalitarian nature of governance. Yet just as the revolution commenced in earnest, Ghonim was captured and held hostage for 12 days of incarceration, torture and all sorts of brutal interrogation.
After he was released , he delivered a tearful melodramatic speech on national televison , and the protests escalated. Four days later, the authoritarian president of the Egypt was gone.
Mubarak was unseated during the tensest time of the revolution- Ghonim has become an iconic figure and a paragon of virtue in the Egyptian revolution. In 2020, those who are sympathetic to the Zimbabwean question also launched the #ZimbabweLivesMatter, a social media movement meant to protest against gross abuse of the basic human rights defenders and political activists especially those who belong to political behemoth (Mdc Alliance).
Ghonim’s astute revolutionary trajectory should inspire all social democrats in Zimbabwe and the Diaspora to claim a fair share of the national cake from Zanupf terrorists and looters who are using state apparatus as springboards for primitive accumulation of our national resources like gold which is being smuggled day and night.
The defeat of Mubarak is a clear reflection of his generation’s unanticipated involvement in their country’s political providence. It is now imperative for long purported, born-free and those who are suspected to be spoiled by Westernised brats, liberal middle class, labour unions, civic organizations, students unions and poverty-stricken peasants in Zimbabwe to converge and accomplish the unfinished business of the liberation struggle.
Moreover, in Social Science and politics , power is the capacity of an individual to influence the actions , beliefs, or conduct (behaviour) of others. The term authority is often used for power that is perceived as legitimate by social structure ,not to be confused with authoritarianism. This background explains the significant role of the downtrodden masses to actively participate in the socio-economic liberation policies of the country.
The people have the power to vote out political leaders in a Constitutional Democracy but what Zimbabweans need is a concerted effort from all right thinking citizens against artificial poverty manifesting in arbitrary arrests, forced disappearances and corruption.
We must converge to win Zimbabwe from a monocratic regime that has dismally failed to revamp the sinking titanic.
Furthermore, Mdc Alliance Namibia urgently and audibly calls for positive interdependence as an effective element of cooperative and collaborative efforts where members of a converged group share common social, political and economic goals concurring that the #CitizensConvergenceForChange is a double-edged sword that is beneficial both to an individual and the society as whole. Our victory against Zanupf shenanigans depends on the active participation of all members in the national democratic discourse. All poor and oppressed Zimbabweans must brace for dangerous freedom against peaceful slavery.
Social democrats should realise that by registering to vote, they will be fulfilling their civic duty to determine who should lead. Citizens must be reminded that defending the vote core formula in winning Zimbabwe for complete change.
In addition to the above political opinions, Social Transformers in Namibia encourage Positive Role Interdependence which obviously imparts a sense of ownership for each group by assigning an interconnected revolutionary role for each individual that is vital in completing the democratic struggle in the motherland.
We advocate for positive identity of democratic revolutionaries who are custodians of unity, intellectual coordination, cohesion , inspiration and loyalty by way of a shared identity in the citizens convergence for complete change through a mutual logo, slogan and name. This People’s Agenda will be led by none other than the astute leadership President Advocate Nelson Chamisa Wamba Dia Wamba.
In a nutshell, united stronger, divided weaker. Lets all brace for the #CitizensConvergenceForChange. #PeoplePower

BULAWAYO has recorded zero new voter registrants since the commencement of the voter registration exercise, a trend reported to be also prevalent in other parts of the country, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) has revealed.
Zec Bulawayo provincial elections officer Innocent Ncube yesterday appealed to politicians to mobilise for voter registration ahead of the constituency delimitation exercise.
Zec resumed other electoral processes like voter registration on April 1, after months of suspension of electoral activities due to COVID-19 preventive measures put in place by government, but by-elections remain suspended.
“People are not coming to register to vote. On average, we record zero new voter registrants per day. The figures are disappointing,” Ncube said
“We are preparing for delimitation, an exercise that is based on registered voters, and what it simply means for Bulawayo is that if people are not coming to register to vote, there is a likelihood of losing two to three constituencies. It is up to politicians to make sure that people come and register to vote,” he said.
A latest Zimbabwe Election Support Network (Zesn) report titled: “Monitoring Government Response to the COVID-19 Pandemic 2021” also noted that there was a general poor turnout for voter registration across the country.
“Zesn long-term observer (LTO) reports showed that voter registration rates were very low. Examples of such constituencies are St Mary’s, Chimanimani West, Chipinge Central, Chipinge South, Buhera South, Makoni North, Nyanga South, Nyanga North, Masvingo, Bindura North, Mbire, Goromonzi South, and Marondera East, and Mutoko East, Mutoko South, Wedza South, and Kadoma, among others.
“In Chiredzi West, of the few people who were registering to vote, most were from ward 16 of Chiredzi North where Zanu-PF held a primary election to select a candidate to represent the party in the anticipated National Assembly by-election. The Zec office in Lupane East indicated plans to partner with civil society in encouraging people to register to vote.”
Finance minister Mthuli Ncube allocated $2,3 billion to Zec in the 2021 budget, of which $1,744 billion is meant to fund the delimitation exercise.
Voter registration statistics will guide the upcoming delimitation exercise – creation of new electoral boundaries ahead of the next general elections.
While some provinces will get new constituencies during the delimitation exercise, Bulawayo is likely to lose about three constituencies as the registered voter population falls far below the minimum threshold.
By A Correspondent- Nine people w injured after the driver of a Toyota Hiace kombi they were travelling in lost control of the vehicle which then rolled several times before landing on its roof at the 237km peg along the Harare-Mutare highway on Monday.
The injured are receiving treatment at the same hospital.
Police said the kombi, which was travelling towards Harare, had 12 passengers on board at the time of the accident.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said they were concerned over the surge in fatal traffic accidents on the country’s major highways “due to speeding and overtaking errors.”
The Deputy Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, Ruth Mavhunga Mabhoyi, Wednesday told Parliament that spot fines for those who would have broken traffic rules are legal and must be paid on the spot hence the name spot fine.
She also said in the case that one does not have the money at hand, they can make arrangements with traffic officers on payment modalities.
This prompted a follow-up question from fellow members of Parliament to ask if negotiating with police officers on payment modalities is not creating a conducive environment for corruption.
Her response was evasive.
The discussion comes when police officers are being accused of abusing motorists at roadblocks where they will be demanding spot fines.
Scores of police officers were arrested in the past for demanding bribes from motorists caught on the wrong side of the law, even for petty offences.
Flu season is starting in many parts of the world. How can you protect yourself from flu and COVID-19? How would you know if you have flu or COVID-19? What precautions should pregnant women take? WHO’s Dr Sylvie Briand explains in this episode of Science in 5.
Vismita: Hello and welcome to Science in 5, WHO’s conversations in science. I’m Vismita Gupta-Smith and today we are talking about flu and COVID-19. Our expert today is Dr. Sylvie Briand. Sylvie is the Director of WHO’s department of Global Infectious Hazard Preparedness. Welcome, Sylvie.
Sylvie: Hello, Vismita.
Vismita: Sylvie, flu season is starting in many parts of the world now. So, now people are worried about flu and COVID. How worried should people be? What are their risks?
Sylvie: I think we shouldn’t be worried. We should rather be prepared because for flu, we do have a vaccine, we do have antivirals and a set of measures that works for flu and can reduce the morbidity, I mean, the disease and the mortality, the deaths linked to influenza. So, what is good news as well is that, first, the measures that have been put in place for COVID, at least the individual measures such as a physical distancing, washing hands and avoid close contact, are working also for influenza viruses. And we have seen in the Southern hemisphere, they had their flu season recently, that those measures worked very well and the transmission of influenza was very low during the Southern hemisphere influence season. So, we cannot be certain that this will be the case for the Northern hemisphere in this fall and winter but we can hope for the best and hope really that influenza will be a mine this year.
Vismita: That’s really good advice. Don’t be worried, be prepared. But first, tell us how would we know if we have flu or COVID-19?
Sylvie: So, what is important for people to know is that those two virus can infect in the body and can produce similar symptoms. What is important is that people, when they see a certain severity sign, that they seek for medical advice. For instance, if they really feel a pain in the chest or difficulties to breathe, then they need to ask for medical advice. And especially people with underlying conditions such as cardiac disease or other respiratory chronic illness, asthma, or people with diabetes. So, those people should be more aware of the sign of severity and so they can ask for advice and help in due time. And one thing is interesting also is we are still learning on COVID-19 disease, but we have seen that certain symptoms are, especially in young adults, such as the change in or loss of smell or taste could be a sign that is more specific to COVID-19.
Vismita: Sylvie, pregnant women are often advised care regarding flu and they’re also more concerned about catching the flu. What is your advice to them regarding flu and COVID-19?
Sylvie: So, pregnant women, indeed, because they have a change in their immunity during pregnancy, they are more at risk to develop a severe form of influenza. And so, they need to be particularly cautious during the influenza season not to get infected. So, avoid places that are very crowded, put even extra measures in place such as washing hands very frequently and wearing a mask in places that are crowded, where they cannot physical distance. Basically, it’s the same advice that we provide for COVID-19. So, they just need to know that they might be more at risk for severe influenza disease. And, in some countries they are offered the flu vaccination. So, they can also see if this applies to them and they need to ask their physician or nurses what’s the advice for them during this particular period.
Vismita: Thank you, Sylvie. There you have it, Dr. Sylvie Briand’s advice: Don’t be worried, be prepared to take precautions to protect yourself from flu and COVID-19. That’s all we have in Science in 5 today. Until next time then. Stay safe, stay healthy and stick with science
By A Correspondent- Former war veterans minister and Zanu- PF Politburo member, Tshinga Dube, and Bulawayo Provincial Affairs Minister, Judith Ncube have challenged President Emmerson Mnangagwa for awarding Matabeleland empowerment projects to the Shona People.
The misunderstanding started after some people in Harare received a contract to clear the bushes along the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls highway road, defying a policy that locals must be the ones contracted to do such jobs.
This was revealed by former war veterans minister and Zanu- PF Politburo member, Tshinga Dube, at a press conference with Bulawayo journalists on the occasion of Africa Day, Tuesday, CITE reports. Said, Dube:
Just four days ago, Cde Judith Ncube, the minister phoned me and said some people received a contract in Harare to clear the bushes along the roads, the Bulawayo to Victoria Falls and they are coming here.
I was in Harare myself. They are coming, carrying their people, with choppers to come and cut trees here.
Dube said he advised the provincial and devolution minister to put a stop to that as that defied the devolution policy. He said:
I said, ‘No, no but you are a minister of devolution yourself, so you stop them and say no. You have people here who can do that.’
I don’t think you need to go for training just to chop wood anyone can chop wood.
Let people there discuss with people in Matabeleland North because that’s where they live.
Hire boys along the road just from Bulawayo and then they can chop wood
Dube also criticised some people who committed offences and hid behind the president’s name.

Should women who are breastfeeding infants get vaccinated? How about women who are pregnant or planning to get pregnant? Or women who are menstruating? Hello and welcome to Science in 5, I’m Vismita Gupta-Smith and we are going to get these answers for you from WHO’s Chief Scientist Dr Soumya Swaminathan today. Welcome, Soumya.
Dr Soumya Swaminathan
Hello, Vismita.
Vismita Gupta-Smith
Soumya, my first question to you is women who are breast feeding infants, what is the advice for them? Should they get vaccinated?
Dr Soumya Swaminathan
Yes, the answer is yes. So, women who have given birth and who are breastfeeding their babies can take the vaccine, should take the vaccine when it becomes available to them. There is no risk at all because all the vaccines that are being used presently, none of them have the live virus in it. And so there’s no risk of transmission through the breast milk. In fact, the antibodies that the mother has can go through the breast milk to the baby and may only serve maybe to protect the baby a little bit. But there’s absolutely no harm. It’s very safe. And so women who are breastfeeding can definitely take the vaccines that are currently available.
Vismita Gupta-Smith
Soumya, what about women who are pregnant or are planning to get pregnant?
Dr Soumya Swaminathan
Yeah, that’s really important because pregnancy, of course, is a very special situation because we are concerned about the health of the mother, but also about the health of the foetus, the unborn child. And so any drug or vaccine that is administered during pregnancy, we always take special care to make sure that, you know, there is no potential safety concern or any adverse event. In the case of COVID, we know that pregnant women are at higher risk of getting severe COVID and also at higher risk of delivering a baby prematurely. So, in situations where there is a lot of COVID transmission in the country and a woman is exposed to it, or if she’s in a profession like a health care worker or a frontline worker where she’s at especially high risk of acquiring the infection, the benefits of getting the vaccine definitely outweigh the risks, particularly since the platforms that we used currently for vaccines are the mRNA platform, inactivated viruses or the viral vectored platforms or subunit proteins. None of them have a live virus that can multiply within the body and that could potentially create a problem. So, I think it’s important that pregnant women in every country be explained the benefits versus the risks and be offered the vaccine if they would like to take it. And it’s probably the right thing to do in many situations, as I said, where the pregnant woman is at higher risk of getting the infection and where the vaccines would bring more benefits.
Vismita Gupta-Smith
Soumya, should women get vaccinated when they’re menstruating?
Dr Soumya Swaminathan
So, there is nothing scientifically to really come in the way of a menstruating woman taking the vaccine, apart from the fact that, you know, she may feel a bit tired, but if that’s the date on which you have a vaccine appointment and you happen to have your periods, there’s absolutely no problem in going ahead and getting the vaccine.
Vismita Gupta-Smith
Soumya, we hear a lot of misinformation about vaccines and fertility and infertility. Could you please explain the science behind this?
Dr Soumya Swaminathan
Yes, it’s a common myth. And I should start by saying that there is absolutely no scientific evidence or truth behind this concern that vaccines somehow interfere with fertility, either in men or in women, because what vaccines do is they stimulate an immune response against that particular protein or antigen of that virus or bacteria. So in this case, the COVID vaccine stimulates both antibody response and a cell mediated immune response against the spike protein of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. So, there is no way in which they could interfere with the functioning of the reproductive organs in either men or women. So, I think people can rest assured that these vaccines in no way interfere with fertility.
Vismita Gupta-Smith
Thank you, Soumya. That was Dr. Soumya Swaminathan in Science in 5 today.
Until next time then.
Stay safe, stay healthy and stick with science.
Selmor Mtukudzi’s social media posts at the weekend about the hardships faced by artists have rattled the ruling ZANU PF party.
Selmor, the heiress to the Tuku Music legacy, expressed her displeasure with the government’s apparent lack of care for struggling artists during the COVID-19-induced lockdown.
Selmor took to Twitter to express concern over Zimbabwean authorities’ silence while artistes are languishing in poverty.
The post came after her live shows dubbed Remembering Tuku held on May 29 and 30 in Johannesburg, South Africa, in honour of her late father and national hero, Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi. Selmor wrote:

Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the showbiz sector has remained closed, throwing most artists into abject poverty.
In a bid to stave off poverty, a number of local artistes have been flocking to South Africa for live performances.
ZANU PF director for information and publicity Tafadzwa Mugwadi felt Selmor was being disrespectful to Mnangagwa. He said:
We have taken note of concerns by music artistes who have registered their plea for a waiver in the arts sector to ensure they are cushioned in these COVID-19 measures. We will be engaging leaders about the issue of a waiver.
However, we opine that our colleagues in the arts sector must learn to engage with authorities and express themselves respectfully rather than through insults.
Football authorities set an example and signed themselves to strict conditions in light of this pandemic. Now they are on.
