LEAD Position On Covid-19 Vaccine

For Immediate release

21 January 2021

As the world fights against the Covid 19 pandemic, a lot of theories have emerged concerning the probable solutions to this problematic health issue.

Having been first detected in the Wuhan province of China, the virus spread to all countries and continents including Africa and Zimbabwe in particular. However, the news of Covid-19 vaccine hitting the market has caused more confusion amongst citizens more than the pandemic itself and dangers associated with it.

It must be noted that there are no scientifically proven side effects of the Covid vaccine yet but source of conspiracy is unavailability of information concerning chemical trial results of the same.

Labour Economists and Afrikan Democrats (LEAD) is more concerned with the conspiracies associated with this vaccine. To commence with, the theory of control is not clear even the extent of efficiency is not being publicised.

It is important that as a nation we begin to question and publicly answer when and where chemical trials of the said vaccine was administered and by who. This will have a super natural effect of helping us detect as a people the possibilities of any biological warfare. This comes from an understanding that our current statistics show that we are mainly suffering from recklessness. Our government failed to do a reasonable and responsible check on probable effects of allowing mass movement during the Christmas period which went unguarded even in the wake of an unprecedented rise in South Africa’s statistics.

However, having noted that it’s still not too late to act responsibly without putting many of our citizens’ lives on the firing line. Zimbabwe needs responsible LEADers and politicians now who are ready to move out of denial mode and appreciate reality. Africa loses much of it’s population to malaria not what this Covid is doing but the neo-colonial agenda has funded our media to concentrate on Covid 19 making people ignore duseases like HIV, Diabetes, Bp, Malaria, cancer, etc just to mention a few. In light of this the billion dollar question is why?

Considering the inscription of label use which suggests that the vaccine is meant for Africa only it can be deduced that patent rights are at play. What are local institutions like CAPS and Natpharm doing? It’s time we make our own medicines with the assistance of experts in the health sector. True independence lies in appreciating our local produce and not vice versa.

Moreover, Covid-19 tests at Institutions like Wilkins wherein someone who went for tests on the 110121 followed up on 150121 and was advised to wait in expectancy of results at home the question is how then can we successfully manage this pandemic if we cannot account for infections in real time. By the time an individual knows his/her status the disease would have been transmitted to several contacts because the affected person is not certain of his/her status to take appropriate action.

Conclusively, we would like to urge authorities to start considering the Madagascar and Tanzanian herbs for trials and or tests as they are proving to be a bit reliable and secure considering bilateral relations between African nations.

Trouble In Mwonzora, Khupe’s Backyard

By A Correspondent- Thokozani Khupe is reportedly refusing to vacate the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament position to pave way for MDC-T’s newly elected president Douglas Mwonzora.

Khupe was expected to vacate the office following her defeat at the MDC-T’s recently held Supreme Court-sanctioned Extraordinary congress.

The Congress was aimed at electing the substantive heir to the party’s late founding leader Morgan Tsvangirai whose demise ushered the MDC into a leadership.

Khupe’s actions are likely to prolong the power crisis in the MDC, an issue which some thought would be addressed by the congress.

Last week, top MDC-T leaders, Mwonzora, deputy president Elias Mudzuri, Khupe and the party’s national chairman, Morgan Komichi were supposed to meet, to fast track Mwonzora’s elevation as the official Leader of the Opposition in Parliament.

The publication reports that the meeting did not take place after it emerged that Khupe was adamant she would not let go her position in Parliament on a silver platter.

Well-placed sources within the party’s leadership told Business Times that the situation was tense in the camp with Mwonzora and Khupe not agreeing on the way forward over the matter.

Speaking to Business Times, Witness Dube, MDC-T spokesperson said: Our party leaders are yet to agree on the position of leader of opposition in Parliament.

We were supposed to have a meeting last week as leaders of the party and finalise the matter, but it did not happen.

I understand our principal wants the matter to be discussed together with the reappointment of Mudzuri as one of the vice presidents and Komichi as the chairman of the party.

Komichi also confirmed that Khupe and Mwonzora were not agreeing on how to move forward.

He said:

Madam Khupe does not want to give away her post as leader of opposition in Parliament arguing that there is need for proper procedures to be followed and that she must be allowed to finish her tenure as leader of opposition.

Thokozani Khupe refused to recognise Mwonzora’s victory accusing him of manipulating the voting process at the congress.

Party insiders say Khupe had agreed to be Mwonzora’s deputy on condition that she was the only vice president and that she retained the Leader of Opposition in Parliament post.

A leader of Opposition in Parliament enjoys the same perks as of a cabinet minister.

ZNA Soldier: I’ve Only Got One Underwear…

By Simba Chikanza | When Emmerson Mnangagwa’s official advisor announced in the ZANU PF leader’s presence on 15 Dec 2017, that they would use the army to change the 2018 election results, they didn’t tell the soldiers that the respected officers would become poorer as a result of that crime of state terrorism. (Video).

Another soldier standing outside Cresta Lodge in Harare tells ZimEye, “I only have one underwear and I can’t remember the last time when I washed it, this is what our life has been reduced to.”

In the early 80s serving in the army was a national pride, but today Zimbabwe’s soldiers are an international mockery.

undated video that has surfaced of a suspected soldier walking barefoot, in circumstances confirmed by Defence Minister Oppah Muchinguri.

Fast forwards to the 1 Aug 2018 military crackdown which the United Nations have condemned, and in which 6 people were shot dead in broad daylight and scores others assaulted in Harare’s surbubs, Defence Minister Oppah Muchinguri announces saying she fears there will be a coup, because soldiers have got only one uniform per person.

Speaking at parliament’s pre budget consultative Forum in Bulawayo, Muchinguri also said soldiers are failing to access basics such as food.

She said, “We also had challenges as was indicated: inadequate budget, delays in cash disbursements to Ministry’s bank accounts; prices of goods and services – suppliers refusing to accept quotations; and also this affects our levels of our preparedness to deal with any eventuality;

“Non availability of adequate institutional accommodation is an area of concern. Our accommodation is in a very deplorable state, and I hope that … (sic)we are envisaging the putting up of 5000 accommodations of thousands of forces to build a hospital and also to provide family accommodation; and this we appeal to you because most of our soldiers depend accommodation in townships; sometimes [are] disgraced, insulted, and that brings our own force into disrepute; and this is the situation.

“When we compare ourselves with other countries we are lagging behind- lack of decent uniforms adequate, our soldiers have only one uniform and you can imagine how embarrassing this situation is; and for me to be exposing our force to this situation where I have to share with Parliament. I normally am not expected, to disclose these issues. But again, I appeal to you – failure to access health care, even food. But I want to thank the minister of Finance, who has chipped in and assured us that he will address the need to make sure that we are accommodated in terms of budgetary intervention or mitigation. We share these concerns because we are afraid of mutiny. We need to control the situation in keeping our forces comfortable and happy we know what has happened in other countries…”

Charamba: “VP Chiwenga Would Long Have Joined His Ancestors, He Looked Worse for Wear And the President ORDERED him to Take Some DESERVED REST”

By Farai D Hove | Presidential Spokesman George Charamba has confirmed that Vice President Constantino Chiwenga is seriously unwell after his close relatives died from COVID-19.

Announcing the development exclusively revealed by COVID Taskforce Chair Oppah Muchinguri to ZimEye last week, Charamba said he would have long joined his ancestors. He added saying Chiwenga visibly looked worse for wear.

Chiwenga has since been ordered to go home and rest.

Said Charamba:

As for Vice President Chiwenga, I can only say just as well rumours don’t kill. It they did the man would long have joined his ancestors!

Beyond taking over as Acting President while the President is on his traditional annual leave – which this year has proved more of technical fixture than a real break – the Vice President has been working well into the early hours of most of the days, both in his Office and at home.

Made worse by a few of his relatives and associates who have succumbed to COVID-19, alongside many other Zimbabweans. A few days ago, he looked worse for wear and the President ORDERED him to take some DESERVED REST.

Minister’s Close Relative Nabbed For Armed Robbery

By A Correspondent- Elias Chiduwa (49), a close relative of the Deputy Minister of Finance Clemence Chiduwa is among the six suspected notorious robbers who were nabbed by the Police in Harare yesterday.

Elias was arrested together with two members of the Zimbabwe National Army who are believed to be members of the gang that suspected to have terrorised Masvingo for a long time.

The soldiers are Ratiel Romeo (33) and Fortune Ndlovu (28) who are both with 4 Brigade.

Deputy Mininster Chiduwa refuted reports that Elias is his brother but he told The Mirror that the suspect is his aunt’s (father’s sister) son. He said he is inundated by calls from people who think that the arrested man is his direct brother.

The other suspects recorded in a Police report that is in the hands of The Mirror are Tendai Mahala who is a carpenter in Masvingo and Tadious Mupfurire (43) who is unemployed.

The social media is also abuzz with speculation that Manyanga is a brother to Masvingo Ward 10 councillor Sengerei Manyanga. Councillor Manyanga refuted any relationship with the nabbed soldier when contacted by The Mirror.

The gang is now being linked to several other cases of robberies committed in the city including at some businessmen’s residents in Rhodhene. There are suspicions that the gang is well connected.

By Jane Mlambo| MDC Alliance deputy chairperson Job Sikhala will spend more time behind bars after his bail appeal hearing was postponed to 26 January.

The postponed was caused by the state’s failure to respond to his application which they claimed they received today.

Despite the hearing having been set for today, prosecutors told the High Court that they were not able to study the record from the magistrate court as they got it today.

Luke-ing the Beast in the Eye: A memorial—Ode to Oliver Mtukudzi

Friday , 22 January 2021

By Luke Tamborinyoka| Tomorrow, 23 January 2021, marks exactly two years after we lost the great Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi, the master of song who entertained and charmed this nation for decades.

Death is a beast that continues to rob us of the talent in our midst. And yet, when the dreaded spectre of death visits us, we can’t run away and all we have to do is brave up and “Luke” the beast in the eye.

Artistes will always be the true repository of the conscience of a people, with their art and the attendant enduring message reflective of the people’s daily trials and tribulations. As Emmerson Mnangagwa’s physical, emotional, economic and psychological violence wreaks havoc across the country., leaving corpses as well as battered and tortured souls in its wake, one is reminded of Tuku’s timeless lyrics when he tutored us on the futility of violence and its lack of dividend:

” Ngoromera ingoromera ,
Harina zvarinoshanda
Haringabatsire …..”

Today, all we can do is remember this icon and the footprints that the man and his art left on the sands of history. Tsimba itsoka , to borrow the phrase by which he named one of his albums.

Tuku achieved both in life and in death what our national leaders have failed to achieve —- uniting a deeply polarised and fractured nation. Such was Tuku’s greatness.

He was one of the unique few who traversed with unparalleled ease the great political divide that has become the bane of our nation.

Tuku performed at a ceremony to celebrate the appointment of Joice Mujuru as second secretary of Zanu PF and Vice President of the country. Mujuru hails from Mashonaland Central province, where Mtukudzi also came from. At the carnival where he played to celebrate Mujuru’s elevation in politics, Tuku performed the song Dzoka Uyamwe in salutation of the political achievement by a woman he referred to as the girl from Dande, his home area as well.

After that performance to celebrate Mujuru’s elevation, some said Tuku was Zanu PF.

Tuku then performed at former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai’s wedding in Harare in 2012. In February 2018, he was in Buhera when we buried Zimbabwe’s doyen of democracy at his rural home at Humanikwa village.

After his appearance at these two epic events to do with Morgan Tsvangirai, the naysayers changed script and said Tuku was MDC!

In this politically divided nation, it was only Tuku who could afford to criss-cross this great divide and leave the nation baffled and confused as to where he stood politically. Tuku lived his life and his art well beyond the political party card; far beyond the constricting precinct of partisan regalia and party slogans.

Indeed, partisan politics and a partisan deportment were too petty for Tuku’s vast character; for his ubiquitous art that touched every soul regardless of race, tribe, creed or political affiliation.

Tuku, the legend buried in Madziwa on Sunday, 27 January 2019, was simply far much bigger than our fractured and divisive politics.

Even in the soft requiem of death, Tuku unified our divided politics. At his death, we saw Nelson Chamisa, Emmerson Mnangagwa and Joyce Mujuru casting aside their political jackets to attend the funeral of this hero of Zimbabwe. The vastness of Tuku’s character and the ubiquity of his art had ample space for this deeply divided political lot.

Such was the unifying nature of this lyrical master of our time; indeed an undisputed national hero. In his death, Tuku brought Nelson Chamisa and Emmerson Mnangagwa together, a feat which SADC, the AU and even the United Nations have all failed to achieve.

Tuku died as he lived — simply as an artiste.

I have long memories of Oliver Mtukudzi that stretch some 20 years back to my other life as a journalist.

I remember covering the launch of one of his most controversial albums to date, Bvuma/Tolerance , at a joint along Julius Nyerere Avenue in central Harare. The place was full to the brim and the inimitable Mtukudzi was forced mid-stream to cut short his performance of the controversial song, Wasakara .

Yes, Mtukudzi abruptly stopped performing, albeit for a brief hiatus, after his fans literally plucked the controversial song from his lips, flashed out red cards and started infusing their own lyrics into a song that was to take the country by storm!

Robert Mugabe was not even 80 at the time but his age had already become a topical national issue. Music fans believed Mtukudzi’s song, Wasakara , was a reference to Mugabe’s age. Yet Oliver was simply a master of perfect musical art, which often has multiple meanings to multiple listeners in multiple circumstances.

The red cards had become part of the MDC’s campaign paraphernalia, which the party’s supporters would symbolically bandy around as a send-off sign for Mugabe to leave the political stage due to his old age. Stamping their feet and singing wildly in mock rendition of Mtukudzi’s powerful lyrics, I can still vividly remember the sonorous unison that Friday night of wild music fans infusing their own lyrics in mockery of Mugabe’s old age:

“ Nyika yese yati wakwegura
Hauchaigona wachembera ,
Wakuraka usazoramba Bhobho Chinja iwe “

Probably afraid of political repercussions during those highly charged political times, Mtukudzi stopped the song mid-stream during the album launch and called for a break. The story of that event was part my several arts stories that won me the 2002 Delta prize for the Arts journalist of the year at the annual National Journalism And Media Awards ceremony some 19 years ago.

When I sought Tuku’s comment during the crowd-induced hiatus, a visibly shaken Samanyanga, unnerved by the moment, calmly said to me:

“ Tamborenyoka , this is the time when I want to speak to my fans . I do not wish to grant interviews to journalists during my shows . Let us talk tomorrow .”

Weeks later, the controversial Wasakara song was to lead to the arrest of an audacious lighting engineer for invariably blazing the lights on Mugabe’s portrait every time Tuku shouted “ Bvuma iwe ” during a live performance at a local hotel!

Tuku’s music fascinated the nation, charmed revelers and consoled the bereaved.

My maternal uncle, Constantine Makumbe of Makumbe village in Domboshava, is a Tuku fan. But my paternal uncle, my father’s young brother Thomas Gombera, now a pastor, was a staunch fanatic, nay a fundamentalist when it came to Tuku’s music. Through his influence, the entire family ended up warming up to Mtukudzi’s powerful lyrics. Somehow, we all ended up Tuku’s ardent fans.

At one of our family end of year shindigs, way back on December 20 1990, I remember the whole family singing along to Tuku’s lyrics at a colourful family bash that spilt into the early hours of the following morning:

“ Kumhuri yekwedu , haungadaro , Carol …” we boomed, slotting in my sister’s name for colour and rhyme in a deafening chant that reverberated in the nearby Dambatsoko mountain.

We were enjoying ourselves at our rural homestead at Tamborenyoka village in Domboshava and my sister, Carol, was only eight then.

Indeed, Tuku’s music would charm families and communities. His art cut across generations, nations, tribes and political parties. Such was the greatness of Tuku Music.

It was Tuku who almost provided the sound-track to the real-life movie of my near-demise. When I was involved in a near-fatal accident in the company of my uncle and brothers as we drove home in the early hours of Sunday, November 4 2012, it was Tuku’s lyrics that almost accompanied us to our death. Playing in the car in what almost became the lyrical backdrop to our deaths was the album Abi Angu , a collection of Tuku’s collaborative effort with his friends.

In the flash of a moment, the Prado vehicle had overturned. With the car’s wheels still spinning as it lay on its roof, Abi Angu was playing in the background as my five colleagues battled to clamber out of the vehicle.

I remained trapped in the car. I had lost consciousness, which later graduated into a deep coma that was to last some five weeks.

Tuku’s music was pregnant with all sorts of exhortations. His lyrical prowess was unparalleled as he was one musician who advised just he chastised. He could console as he taught. He entertained as he praised.

Samanyanga simply had a song for every situation, including the powerful lyrics that became the theme song at his death:

” Pangu pese ndasakura _ndazunza ,
Ndima yese mdasakura ndapedza ..”

(I have fought my good fight).

Indeed, Tuku, you have done your part. True, rufu ndimadzongonyedze .

It is sad that the signature cough that accompanied your lyrics shall be heard no more!

We shall always remember you, Tuku. But we are comforted by the fact that you are now in great company up there with Safirio Madzikatire, Simon Chimbetu, James Chimombe, John Chibadura, Job Mashanda, Leonard Dembo, Marshall Munhumumwe and many others of your trade who left before you.

Heaven is probably lyrically richer. After all, one from your own loins, Sam, is already up there. And the two of you will charm the heavens with the same lyrical lure that for decades lulled a despondent nation into an odd mixture of laughter and comfort.

Tuku and son Sam; the elephant and its calf charming God and the angels in the ultimate kraal of heaven ( nzou nemhuru mudanga ).

Tuku’s former publicist, Shepherd Mutmba, has written a damning book which details some of Tuku’s blemishes, including adulterous relationships. What this may only show is that Tuku was no saint. He was a mere mortal like the rest of us.

Tuku’s blemishes will neither subtract from the lofty standard of his art nor blight the overwhelming reverence that this nation rightfully accorded him.

Politicians by the nature of their trade always want to claim credit. But let it be said now that it was not the Zanu PF politburo that conferred Tuku with national hero status. They may have done so to provide a distraction to the unfolding national crisis in which State security agents continue to terrorize innocent citizens, but Zimbabweans in their diversity had already duly accorded him the iconic status he duly deserved.

Even if this regime had kept its silence, Tuku was always going to be a national hero!

After all, hero status is never conferred by anyone. It is achieved and earned by one’s deeds in their lifetime. Tuku deserves his place among the country’s cream; among those who raised the country’s flag high by their talent and the sweat of their unique endeavours.

One could surmise that even Mnangagwa, who presumes himself to be our President when we all know he pick-pocketed victory, may not have the legitimacy to purport to have conferred hero status on the great Tuku.

Indeed, pretence of legitimate kingship is the political bane of our time. Wenge Mambo , to borrow a lyrical line from the indefatigable Tuku!

It was Tuku who told us that death leaves a painful scar but the fairness lies in that each one of us will have their turn.

“ Vanga ramatipa rorwadza ,

Misodzi mokoto

Haiwaka rwendo rwacho mazoro …..”

May his dear soul rest in eternal peace, this iconic lyrical master of our time!

South Africa Introduces Political Party Funding Act, Prohibits Foreign Funding

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa announced on Friday that the Political Party Funding Act will come into effect from 1 April.

According to a statement issued by the Presidency, “The Act establishes funds to provide political parties represented in Parliament and legislatures with funding to undertake their work. It also requires that donations be disclosed by parties and donors to the Independent Electoral Commission.”

It prohibits donations to parties by foreign governments or agencies, foreign persons or entities, organs of state or state-owned enterprises.

Parties may, however, receive funding from foreign entities for training, skills development or policy development.

No member of a political party may receive a donation other than for political party purposes.

The move is intended to reinforce initiatives like the online publication of government-related COVID-19 procurement contracts.

“President Ramaphosa commends the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), the Department of Home Affairs, MPs, leaders of political parties, and other stakeholders for the extensive preparatory work required to bring this legislation into operation,” the statement read.

Ramaphosa also called on political parties to work together and with the IEC to ensure the effective implementation of this law.

WCoZ Calls On Govt To Prioritise Women

The Women Coalition of Zimbabwe (WCOZ) has underscored the need for the prioritisation of women’s access to safety nets during COVID-19 and the hard lockdown. Below is WCOZ’s statement.

298 days of the COVID Lockdown, and as at 20 January 2020, the Ministry of Health and Child Care reported that, the cumulative number of COVID-19 cases increased to 29 408, after 733 new cases were reported, all are local cases and of which 242 cases are from Harare alone. Manicaland goes up with the second highest new case tally of 112 cases. We note that the Harare Hospitalisations rate on the 19 January 2021 has gone down to 257 hospitalised cases, 181 mild to moderate cases, 56 severe cases and 20 cases, in Intensive Care Units. Active cases, have gone down to 9 276 cases after 1 143 new recoveries were recorded.

This brings the total number of recoveries to 19 253. The recovery rate accordingly continues to rise to 65.5%. The death toll has risen to 879, after 54 new deaths were recorded. We continue to await the full hospitalization rate with percentages and full provincial disaggregation.

The 16th Day of the 2nd hard lockdown and we underscore the need for prioritization of women’s access to social safety nets during COVID-19 and the hard lockdown. We continue to amplify our concern that the majority of women in Zimbabwe and women-led households are facing the biggest impacts in food security, income loss, and care-giving burdens. We therefore urge Government to expand social safety nets and offset economic impacts for COVID19 and the subsequent hard lockdown.

Critical Emerging Issue
1. Comoliance with the lockdown and COVID-19 containment fa:illation Despite an increase in COVID-19 cases and deaths in the country, we continue to witness communities disregarding the lockdown and COVID-19 health guidelines. This is particularly so in areas such Chinhoyi, where we received reports of some bottle stores operating even beyond the 3pm closing time. In Kwekwe, reports that the majority members of the public in residential areas, continue to move about without any face-masks and in total defiance of the movement restrictions. This is distressing given the current COVID-19 situation in the country. We commend the Zimbabwe Republic Police for moving swiftly in other areas to ensure strict enforcement of the lockdown.

• We continue to urge communities to exercise care and caution, by ensuring observance of public health guidelines and safety protocols which minimize the risk of exposure to COVID-19.

Outstanding Issue
1. exorbitant Costs of COVID-19 CARE We highlight reports regarding the costs of COVID-19 care. Against a background where public hospitals are barely attending to citizens, where there are alleged reports of citizens with COVID-19 symptoms being turned away from public health institutions but deteriorating and allegedly dying afterwards, citizens are faced with nothing more than home based care.

We decry the resultant privatisation of healthcare as a result of disinvestment in the public health care sector by the state.

We highlight the example of the Capital City, Harare, which has a public hospital ICU bed capacity of 30 ICU beds. Hospitals in the capital city such as Health Point, Arundel, St Anne’s are charging between US$2 000 and US$5 000 based on the care required. We amplify the public outrage at the costs being charged for admission at an average of US$3 500 for admission. Deposits for care are also being required with doctors in some instances charging US$1 000, prior to other costs being added. Some hospitals require deposits of up to US$5 000 prior admission in ICU. Other hospitals and doctors are now offering house calls for asymptomatic and moderately symptomatic patients as well as patients with underlying conditions who need close monitoring.

  • We call for the intervention of the policy makers in the regulation of costs of access to healthcare
  • We call for a stronger approach to develop an integrated healthcare sector where the line between private health care and public healthcare are not as rigid and prohibitive to the securing the right to health for citizens.

FULL TEXT- Auxilia Mnangagwa’s Call For 3 Days Of Fasting And Praying

May I as the Mother of the Nation call upon all women in Zimbabwe, and all those abroad who may so wish, to join me in fasting and praying to the Lord the Almighty from today, Thursday 21 January to Saturday 23 January 2021 for our nation to be spared from further calamity and suffering.

Our country has witnessed a lot of Covid19 deaths in the past two weeks. Death is within our communities, at our door step. There is no family that has not suffered the loss of their beloved ones because of the pandemic.

Every day we hear of names that are succumbing. I thus humbly appeal to all women to commit to a three day period from tomorrow in which we fast and pray calling for divine intervention to save the nation and our people.

As women, we play a very important role in our society. We hold the family unit together and get it to work for our daily life. Being on the ground at all times, we are the custodians of values and measures that protect us at the smallest unit of society.

I call upon you that as we pray to the Almighty for his mercy and grace, we also use that power bestowed upon us by society to ensure that every family is abiding by the measures that have been put in place by Government to curtail the spread of the infectious disease.

As mothers, let us enforce compliance at the family level with measures that reduce the spread of Covid19 amongst us. We need a plan at the house hold level for regularly using any means at our disposal to clean and sanitize our homes; to ensure that everyone in the home knows the importance of having a mask and masking up properly; more importantly to organise sharp safe errands for our requirements to get going whilst enforcing the family to stay at home.

Let us include the measures against Covid19 as we play our motherly role of ensuring that every member of the family is responsible for their personal hygiene. As we avoid and fight stigmatisation, lets ensure that all members of the family have knowledge of how to help those that have been infected and are willing to assist those that get sick to cope whilst remaining safe from infection.

As we pray for relief in our nation, we should observe the measures for safe praying. The best is to fast and pray as individuals in our homes. For those that congregate in small numbers as allowed by the Covid19 regulations, let us mask up and observe safe physical distancing from each other.

I call upon our traditional leaders, chiefs, headmen and village heads to help spread the word in our communities that will help mothers to save the nation from further damage. In the same vein, I implore our mass media organisations, print, television, radio, online platforms, to help in getting the message across by hyping up your communication that helps the nation to pray together and to observe the measures that keep us safe.

I want to thank members of the health profession, our frontline heroes that continue to provide assistance to the sick, screening through testing to know the rate of infection and spreading awareness messages that help in compliance.

I thank members of the Security Forces for a sterling job in enforcing compliance with the Covid19 regulations.

We encourage you to keep the good work up for the security of our nation. Let us all do our part and save the nation from greater catastrophe.

I thank you.

Herald Retracts Article On SB Moyo’s Liberation War Credentials

By A Correspondent- State-run paper, The Herald, was forced to retract an article which claimed that the late former Minister of Foreign Affairs, retired Lieutenant-General Sibusiso Moyo was part of the Zipra High Command.

Herald retraction

The article had sparked controversy with former Zipra commanders and critics pointing out that the claims were misleading as he was nowhere near there. An anonymous former ZIPRA commander said:

When we returned from the war in 1980, SB was young (19), couldn’t be in Zipra High Command. Even Elson Moyo (the current Airforce commander) wasn’t there. Elson’s brother (SB’s cousin); Zvafa was head of signals, but he died so Tshinga bounced back.

The truth is that at the Zipra High Command we didn’t even know SB, he was too junior at instructor level. We knew his cousin brother Zvafa, who was the brother to Elson Moyo, current Airforce commander. Guys like PV Sibanda, who are senior, were there at deputy command level.

The Herald was then forced to apologise for the misleading claims. Posting on Twitter, the publication said:

On our front page infographic in yesterday’s issue, we erroneously stated that the late Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister, Lieutenant-General (Retired) Dr Sibusiso Moyo, was a member of the High Command during the liberation war.

We have established that this is not correct and wish to apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.

ZIPRA had the structures indicated in the following diagram by Chitiyo and Rupiya (2005: 334)

Chitiyo and Rupiya

When Zipra returned home in 1980 its commanders included Dumiso Dabengwa, Lookout Masuku, Jevan Maseko, Elias Ntuli, Kenny Ndlovu, Thomas Ngwenya, Rodwell Nyika, Sam Mfakazi, Tshinga Dube, Divine Mthethwa, Andrew Ndlovu, Colonel Chirinda, Zwangani Dube and Mike Reynolds.

Prior to that in Zipra High Command, there was also Akim Ndlovu, Alfred Nikita Mangena, Robson Manyika and Ambrose Mutinhiri, among others.

Even Zanla commander Solomon Mujuru (Rex Nhongo) came from Zipra.

LEAD Position On Covid-19 Vaccine

For Immediate release

Covid-19 Strikes Zimbabwe’s Presidium

By A Corrrespondent- The coronavirus has hit the Zimbabwean presidium after Vice Presidents Constantino Chiwenga and Kembo Mohadi reportedly tested positive for the deadly virus while president Emmerson Mnangagwa spent 14 days self-isolating after interacting with cabinet ministers who contracted the virus.

The development is alleged to be the reason why president Mnangagwa had to shorten his annual leave since there was no acting president.

The Independent also reports revelations carried by ZimEye two days ago that president Mnangagwa’s confidante and business mogul, Kuda Tagwirei is also grappling with the novel virus.

Mohadi was the first to act and then disappeared from the public arena before Chiwenga emerged with reports suggesting that he was ill.

The duo missed Thursday’s double burial of Dr Ellen Gwaradzimba and Morton Malianga at the National Heroes Acre which was presided over by President Mnangagwa.

The Independent says it was told that Mnangagwa’s self-isolation was a precautionary measure since he felt he had been exposed to cabinet ministers who eventually tested positive for the coronavirus.

The virus has since taken a number of prominent people and government officials including the former minister of Foreign Affairs, Retired Lieutenant General Sibusiso Moyo and former lands minister Perrance Shiri.

Where is Kuda Tagwirei, at home, or at the prestigious hospital he personally funded and is now reportedly under the clinical care of?

The development comes after top aide close to businessman, Kuda Tagwirei two days ago speaking to ZimEye dismissed reports circulating claiming the man has succumbed to COVID-19.

Kuda Tagwirei

These also follow Gokwe Nembudziya MP Justice Wadyajena who announced a death message suggesting Tagwirei has passed on.

Wadyajena who accuses Tagwirei of conducting a super-spreader party at the new year, once alleged that Tagwirei at one time fled the country with his family to the United Kingdom after his fuel company, Sakunda Holdings’ accounts were frozen by the RBZ.

He said of Tagwirei in October 2019″ he fled with his 3 kids in the middle of school term on 1 way tickets to UK.”

This time, the youthful Midlands MP has painted a picture of a dying Tagwirei on social media.

But contacted by ZimEye, Tagwjrei’s aide Hon Tino Machakaire said the allegations are not true.

“It’s not true, no, he is okay” he said.

Asked further, he added saying, ” no he is ok, he is alright, he is fine.”

Asked about reports of Tagwirei being hospitalised, he said, “aah I don’t know what his agenda is, but maybe he is dealing with speculation,” he told ZimEye.

At the time of writing calls to the businessman were failing, amid continuous ringtones and then sudden hang ups. ZimEye will keep are viewers and listeners updated of events as they unravel.

Chief Fortune Charumbira Dismisses Death Rumours

The family of Chief Fortune Charumbira has dismissed as false social media reports claiming that the prominent traditional leader has died.

Yesterday social media platforms were awash with rumours claiming that Chief Charumbira had died of COVID-19 but there was no authoritative voice to authenticate the report.

A local publication said they could not reach Charumbira on his own mobile numbers, but his wife Priscilla expressed concern that people had used social media to spread malicious rumours.

She said:

We are concerned by the rumours which are malicious. I have no time commenting on them but they are false. I will pass the message to him that you wanted to speak to him.

The National Chiefs’ Council president later spoke in the background and dispelled the rumours that he was dead.

FULL TEXT: “My Prison Hell”: Mahere

MAHERE : MY PRISON HELL

“Ours must always be a story of hope. Of citizens who, knowing how ruthless & repressive this regime is, chose courage over inaction.”

As I was about to part ways with my phone to enter police detention, I sent Cee Musandu, my communications director, this message. She had asked me what she should say. We have been the best of friends since 2016 when we joined #ThisFlag, a citizens’ movement that challenged the poverty, injustice and corruption prevailing under then President Robert Mugabe. The idea was to inspire an engaged citizenry that held the Government to account.

Many amazing and awful things had happened over the last four years but nothing had prepared us for the week that was to come.

It started on the Sunday morning. Two plainclothes police officers in an unmarked vehicle knocked on our gate and asked to see me. When asked what the issue was, they said it was in connection with tweets I had posted protesting police brutality. I had gone to the shops to buy some meds and supplies for the continued lockdown. They left.

As soon as I received the news, my heart sank. Courage does not mean you aren’t afraid. It means you act in spite of your fear. Hopewell Chin’ono and Job Sikhala had been arrested by the Police days earlier on similar charges. “Go seek refuge at a friend’s house,” my little brother suggested. I explained to him that you never run away from the Police. I quickly went back home, assuming that they’d come back.

I telephoned David Drury, my old boss, mentor and trusted lawyer of choice. He advised me to stay put and wait for their return. I waited for what seemed like an eternity. Upon nightfall, Mr Drury said that because the police had not come back, we would have to attend upon Harare Central Police Station first thing in the morning.

At 9am on Monday morning, we were at the Police Station. We waited for an hour before being attended to. They would not immediately confirm or deny whether or why they wanted me pursuant to their visit the day before. Eventually, they confirmed that I was under arrest for my tweets. By 10.50am, I had signed my warned and cautioned statement. The docket was complete. We figured we would immediately go to court as we were in good time. To our surprise, the detective inspector came in with a detention order and told us to hurry up as we were “behind time.”

She had been ordered to hurry up and take me to the cells. Mr Drury appealed with them to take us to court to avoid unnecessary and potentially unlawful pre-trial detention. (This was the first of many appeals he would make to police, prison and court officers in the ensuing seven days.) The officer refused and offered no explanation or reasons to explain why I had to be jailed if the matter was ripe for court.

I was thrown into the all familiar lice-infested police cell with a drop toilet. The proverbial puddle of urine from last time and all the times before greeted me. Rather, it slapped my face. I was barefoot, having signed my shoes in upon entry as per procedure. There was no sanitizer, no facility to flush the loo, no sink and tap, no toilet paper and no sanitary bin. The blankets smelt of old urine.

I shared the cell with six other ladies, most of whom were detained for breaching lockdown regulations. And there was Lisa, an alleged armed robber with whom I would make further contact in days to come. We talked, sighed and laughed then fell asleep on their concrete beds and covered ourselves in stained blankets that smelt of a mix of urine, human and dirt.

The next day, I was bundled into the back of a small police truck escorted by nine police officers who breathed on each other and breathed on me. Some wore masks and some wore them incorrectly.

An application was made to challenge my placement on remand on the ground that the Constitutional Court had declared the sections under which I was charged void and on the ground that the initial remand form was insufficient. The Magistrate postponed the handing down of his ruling to Friday. It was Tuesday. I was to be detained at Chikurubi Prison in the meantime.

As I walked up the prison truck in the rain, I slipped and fell. I quickly got back up because, since I was a child, my mother had taught me to get up immediately after a fall, dust myself up and keep going. Mr Drury got into the truck to check if I was OK. He brought with him my bucket of supplies – assembled in haste by my siblings. It had all the good stuff – chocolate, candy, nuts, reading material and toiletries most of which I would soon learn were forbidden “inside”.

When we arrived, they told us to eat. Dinner was old sadza and watery beans. I politely declined – partly because I was in no state to eat but mostly because of the rule of caution that I had dished out to many a client when I was on the lawyering end of such an ordeal. The events of the previous two days had frozen my legal brain as I watched constitutional rights bludgeoned and the Supreme Law rendered a lifeless museum piece.

I resolved that the only way to make it through this ordeal was to embrace it, follow all orders including the illegal ones and then just make the most of it. “Behave with beauty and dignity at all times,” is the best advice I received that week. We knelt before the prison wardens whom we called “Mbuya”. We had to kneel when talking to them. That was the rule.

They took our details then stripped us of all clothing and our bras then handed us our green prison garb. I had a whole prison number – 38/21. My reading material (a YOU magazine and a Newsday newspaper) were taken away for “censoring.” I never got the newspaper back.

We were placed in an isolation cell with no window. Covid positive inmates were housed in the cell next to us. We shared a “toilet” outside lock up time. We were locked in our cell and a 5 litre plastic container with the top cut off was placed in the corner of the room for us to relieve ourselves that night.

The next morning, we were moved to another section. It was a mix of remand prisoners and convicted inmates. Convicted inmates wore yellow. The concrete floor was our mattress. We had to make our beds out of old, dirty, torn, smelly blankets stamped “Parirenyatwa Hospital.” Breakfast was watery porridge and a smidgen of peanut butter with some sugar which inmates had to eat with their fingers because spoons are forbidden.

We went round the room sharing the charges that had brought us in. Curious, I saved my story till last. Murder, murder, murder, murder, armed robbery, theft, armed robbery, lockdown, curfew, lockdown then “tweeting.” They laughed. So did I. One of the inmates in our section was Chipo* who, four years earlier, had axed a man to death in Gutu and started “eating his brain.”

She would walk into our cell and pick an inmate up then place her down again. She would rummage through the bin for food, chase rats “to eat” and sometimes snatch people’s food. It was evident to even an untrained medical eye that she had no mental capacity to commit a crime.

We were ordered to go and weed the garden. No distinction was drawn between those who were “in with labour”, those on remand and a person in my position who was challenging the very placement on remand. I chose happiness and took it as an opportunity to get some much-needed exercise. When the hoe was passed to me, they said “Fadzie, scrape don’t dig. This is weeding.”

I made many friends because humanity is wired towards positivity. People in distress tend to make the most of tough situations. We are united by our basic human instincts that want dignity, freedom, community and progress.

I helped many fill out their bail application forms and dished out legal advice on available defences to many who requested it. I encouraged those who had done bad things to live right as soon as they got out. Story after story made me reflect on my own personal circumstances and feel grateful for God’s many mercies.

Mr Drury, Andrea Dracos, Emma Drury, my fellow advocates from Chambers, Harrison Nkomo, Rose Hanzi and Tino from ZLHR all came to visit me. I lived for those visits. Sometimes, I’d stand lifeless at the window of my cell staring at the gate in anticipation that someone would show up.

Mr Drury showed up everyday – a lawyer of immense distinction, integrity and honour who had taught me the ABC’s of court litigation, legal drafting and client management as we fought several land and human rights cases over a decade ago when I was a junior lawyer at Gollop and Blank.

He was now plying his trade on me. Yet he went beyond the call of duty in offering legal and psychological support. I was confused as to how it had got to this but at the same time, reassured that I was in extremely capable hands.

I nearly shed a tear when he pledged his own title deeds as he moved my bail application. “Your worship, I know her and can vouch for her. I’m prepared to put my head on the block because I know she won’t abscond.”

“Please tell my mom to stop crying,” I repeatedly said to everyone who visited. My parents, brothers and sisters are gladiators. Family is life. I’m grateful for a powerful network of friends and people who cared enough to offer much-needed solidarity.

Every day at lock-up time, I sat at my window and watched the skyline change from blue to a beautiful golden-peachy hue. The quiet beauty of the setting sun descending below the horizon was a peaceful reminder that the whole thing would eventually end. At least I hoped. I had mentally prepared for this to go on for weeks.

After seven interminable nights of incarceration, the court granted bail. I stepped out of the prison truck and knelt before the prison wardens one last time, crying internal tears of joy that the sun had finally set on this ordeal. I also remain hopeful that one day, the sun will set on injustice and repression. Until then, I will always choose courage over inaction.

I will never stop imagining that Zimbabwe will one day be free

Zanu PF Exposing Political Rivals To Coronavirus

Tinashe Sambiri|President Nelson Chamisa has condemned the detention of political activists by the Zanu PF regime.

President Chamisa also accused Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration of deliberately exposing perceived government critics to Coronavirus.

In a statement, President Chamisa denounced the prolonged detention of perceived Zanu PF opponents.

See President Chamisa’s statement below:

Earlier today(yesterday) I spoke to Fadzayi Mahere who briefed me of the unsanitary conditions in our jails & her own positive COVID19 test after her unjust detention.

Her situation exemplifies the despicable tactics being used by the regime to weaponise this pandemic against opponents.

The unjust and prolonged detention of vocal citizens such as Job Sikhala, Hopewell Chin’ono and student Allan Moyo exposes them to unnecessary risk and further reveals the malicious intent of this regime in jailing opponents through unconstitutional provisions and repressive laws.

The true tragedy of such actions is the failure of the regime to recognize that COVID-19 has no political affiliation. It continues to affect countless citizens across the country without discretion and only sincere, well-informed and sensible leadership will help slow the spread.

Now is not the time for cheap politicking and irresponsible actions but rather an opportunity to ensure that the spotlight being cast on our public health institutions and prisons results in deliberate corrective action.

I implore all citizens to make it their duty to protect themselves and each other by adhering to guidelines as we work together to fight COVID-19. Every COVID 19 statistic is a human life.

Goblin ‘Torments’ Bulawayo Women

SETTLERS at Ngozi Mine squatter camp in Bulawayo are living in fear after a short hairy man-like creature with a giant manhood was spotted early Sunday morning roaming the illegal settlement before it mysteriously disappeared to an unknown destination.

The strange creature which residents suspected was a tikoloshe was discovered after chilling complaints by women from the squatter camp that they were waking up extremely tired and with wetness between their legs.

A tikoloshe (goblin) is believed to be a dead person who has been given a new lease of life by super natural powers.

Traditionally it is believed that, if anyone sights a tikoloshe that person needs special treatment from traditional healers or prophets or otherwise that person will die. Tikoloshe is believed to be used by some businesspeople to acquire vast wealth.

Women who spoke to B-Metro said they were convinced that the spotted supernatural being was the one which was sexually abusing them at night.

The frustrated women said the “randy” tikoloshe’s sex visits began two years ago adding that it “rapes” them all night, leaving nothing for their husbands to enjoy except agonising pains in their private parts.

“We suspected that the spotted short hairy man-like creature with a huge manhood is a tikoloshe which is behind our problems at night.

“I always wake up tired, feeling sore in my privates. I even tried consulting prophets, but the problem just kept getting worse. This tikoloshe is taking a lot of our energy and our husbands are now suspecting us of cheating since we will be tired in bed,” a woman who identified herself as MaTshuma said to loud approval from other women who were however, not at ease to share their horror ordeals with B-Metro.

MaTshuma suspected the alleged tikoloshe might have been dumped by its own after it had troubled him or her.

Another victim who requested anonymity said the short mystical creature was also creeping into her house and making love with her all night long.

“Almost every night when I am sleeping, I feel like I am having sex and when I wake up, I find myself wet between the legs. That has since affected my marriage because each time I tried to have sex with my husband I am never satisfied,” she said.

Mr Alex Sibindi who said they were planning to hire a prophet to get rid of the evil creature said the tikoloshe belonged either to someone from the dwelling who wants to boost his or her business or was dumped by someone who was tired of its abuse to his or her family.-B-Metro

Woman Arrested For ‘Playing’ With 12-Year- Old Boy’s Sexual Organ

A 34-YEAR-OLD woman from Thorngrove suburb has been arrested for playing with her 12-year-old nephew’s sexual organ and begging him to bonk her.

The woman cannot be named so as to protect the identity of the minor. She stays with her minor children and her nephew while her husband is based in South Africa.

A court heard that she would retire to bed with her children.after a few minutes, the woman would call her nephew into her bedroom while wearing a skimpy night dress that leaves nothing to imagination.

The woman would then grab the unsuspecting boy while telling him that he looks handsome and she would caress him, the court heard.

She took matters to greater heights as she would caress his sexual organs while begging him to indulge in sex with her.

It is said the woman would promise to give the toddler money to agree to sample her velvet cake.

But her nephew would turn her down and that did not go down well with her as she would get angry prompting her at times to insult him while chucking him out of her bedroom.

She would warn him to keep the matter to himself.

The minor who has been enduring the indecent assault since October last year never revealed the sexual abuse to anyone. However, last week on Saturday he summoned courage and divulged the matter to his grandfather who had paid them a visit.

His grandfather accompanied him to a police station and reported the matter leading to her arrest.

She appeared before Tredgold courts’ magistrate Shepherd Munjanja facing indecent assault charge.

She denied the charge.

She was remanded out of custody to 17 February.

Of An Inept And Irresponsible Govt

Of an inept and irresponsible government.

By Clifford Hlatywayo | Zimbabwe is at cross roads, while battling to defeat the invisible enemy called COVID-19, on the other hand is an irresponsible and carefree regime that never understood the importance of a vision.

Clifford Hlatywayo

There is an immediate answer to the National question which is anchored of the failure of Zanu PF regime.

The regime has systematically made our country a land of oppression and suppression. While other countries test their war asernal and Weapons of Mass Destruction in seas/oceans, the regime in Harare does so it on the people- What a shame!

Our people are living in constant fear, instability and an uncertain future.
They survive by what scholars call harvest of fear.

Attempt to undermine democratic elections is the order of the day. The ballot must determine who must lead the country. In Zimbabwe, the bullet supercides the ballot of the people. The illegitimate regime enjoys dividing the people. There is no nation to talk about, people are divided on political affiliation, status in society, region, religion, tribe, race, class, color, creed, profession, location, families, political party factions, level of poverty or richness, level of education and most recently looting cartels. These guys have failed this beautiful and potential country. They are greedy, tired, clueless and driven by hatred and bitterness. Being on leadership positions without leadership credentials.

Zimbabwe needs an overhaul of all systems be it governance, social, cultural, technological, political and economic systems.

President Chamisa has a rescue and recovery plan for this country. A plan that will return Zimbabwe to an economic, legitimate, openness and accountable democracy. To be a nation driven by transformation of our society, with opportunities for everyone and reward hardworking citizens, it will be a land of prosperity.
MDC Alliance will operate on trust and confidence of the people. Social Contract between the governed and those who govern. With President Chamisa a month’s time in government is too long for every Zimbabwean to start enjoying their country where ever they are. MDC Alliance has the lasting solution to the Zimbabwean crisis.

Until then,

I got pregnant when I was 16 and the father of the child abandoned me.

Since that time,I have been trying to get married but I failed.

I visited Prophet Isaac Makomichi and he gave me some oil. After using the oil for two weeks I began to see positive results. Now I am relieved because I reconciled with my man.

The message was delivered by Defence and War Veteran Affairs Minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri who had been sent by President Mnangagwa to the Moyo family in Harare this evening.

Defence and War Veteran Affairs Minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri announces hero status of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister, Dr Sibusiso Busi Moyo to the family in Harare this evening.

Burial arrangements will be announced in due course. Minister Moyo died of Covid-19-related complications yesterday.

Locadia Karimatsenga’s Mother Dies

The later former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai’s mother-in-law, Gogo Martha Nyakudya Karimatsenga has died.

Gogo Karimatsenga died on Saturday 16 January 2021, 10 days after celebrating her 71st birthday.

Apostle Locadia Karimatsenga, Tsvangirai’s former wife, announced her mother’s death in a Facebook post this Wednesday. She said:

My beloved mother has ascended to glory and to be with our Lord. I am so grateful for the priceless years we had with her. She fought a good fight and ran a good race.

The true definition of a Proverbs 31 Virtuous Woman and because of that, my family and I have gained an angel in heaven who will be watching over us.

Although it is very painful to have lost her we will not weep but praise The Lord for showing us his power, glory and love through her life and entire existence.

Her flesh has died but she lives on in spirit because she was a child of God. “Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?”. John 11:25 NKJV.

Rest in Glory Mama, praise be to God.

Tsvangirai married Karimatsenga in a traditional ceremony after he had allegedly impregnated her although she later had a miscarriage.

The marriage was consummated in 2012 after Tsvangirai’s wife, Susan, died in a car crash after he had become Prime Minister.

Karimatsenga was however dumped after 12 days of being customarily married to Tsvangirai.

She approached the courts and contested Tsvangirai’s marriage to Elizabeth Macheka which caused the cancellation of the marriage license less than 24-hours before the wedding, causing a legal battle between Karimatsenga and the Tsvangirais.- Pindula News

COVID-Spreader ED Conducts Mass Crowd Burial Function At Heroes Acre

Emmerson Mnangagwa has presided over the joint burial of the late Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Dr Ellen Gwaradzimba and the late Zanu PF Central Committee member Cde Morton Dizzy Paul Malianga at the National Heroes’ Acre in Harare.

The double burial was the third ever following the double burials of national heroines Victoria Chitepo and Vivian Mwashita in 2016 and George Rutanhire and Maud Muzenda in 2017.

The interments followed strict Covid-19 control measures, with only a few people at the shrine. Mnangagwa described the late freedom fighters as selfless in their pursuit for liberation.

He implored the nation to work hard to complete the final nail of liberation-economic liberty.

“Until now, this is the Zimbabwe that we all want and indeed the Zimbabwe we must all work hard to realise,” said Mnangagwa. -Herald

In Laws Fake Death

A HOPLEY couple reportedly faked their grandchild’s death to force their 20-year-old daughter-in-law to collect the baby.

Sonward Lisenga and his wife are at loggerheads with their daughter-in-law Abigail Maramba who was married to their son Tinashe Lisenga for lying to her that her one year seven months old baby was dead.

Maramba allegedly dumped the then 11-month-old baby at Lisenga’s family house after she had been accused of cheating and went to Masvingo where she now works.

Lisenga confirmed to H-Metro they lied to Maramba saying they wanted her to return and collect the baby; he said three self-styled prophets in their suburb had told the family that their son was not the father of the child.

“It is true that I phoned my daughter-in-law lying that her child had passed on,” said Lisenga. “The baby has been on and o good health and we consulted three local prophets who told us that the baby was not fathered by my son.

“We believe the prophecies because Tinashe hooked up with this woman at a local bar and she later claimed to have been impregnated by him.

“Everyone knows Maramba as a hooker and we told her to find somewhere to live and she relocated to Southley Park.

“Tinashe was visiting her behind our back and upon the birth of the child he showed interest and we confronted him.

“Maramba later got employed and she left the baby in our custody and we accepted since Tinashe showed interest in the baby. What we want now is for Maramba to come and take the baby to the responsible father.

“Anogara achirwara nemudumbu zvekuti mukamubata tinotambura saka takazoenda kumaporo ta. “Ndakanyepera kuti mwana afa ndichida kuti auye kuzotora mwana wake saka ipapo ndipo pandakatukirirwa nemashoko akandibaya moyo,” said Lisenga.

Tinashe was hesitant about the paternity of the baby saying Maramba had clashed with his parents and is in a state of confusion.

“I stayed with Maramba for a few days and she was taken to my mother’s sister’s’ village in Chihota,” said Tinashe.

“I never visited her until she returned and got employed as a house maid in Glen View and she would bring food for the baby.

“As for the paternity of the baby I cannot say much but I am beginning to doubt if I am the real father because of the baby’s illness,” said Tinashe.

Maramba threatened to take legal action against her in-laws over faking the death of her child and vowed to only take the child after DNA tests.

“Tinashe’s parents have been calling me names since I got married to their son,” said Maramba. “They went on to take the child for HIV tests accusing me of being positive and the baby came out negative.

“I was asked to leave their house and was taken to Chihota where they organised several men to propose to me in a bid to prove their assumption that I’m a woman of loose morals. “I later returned and le the baby in their custody in anger as they had wrecked my marriage.

“I got employed as a house maid and I started supporting them but I failed to provide them with food for the past two months that is why they faked my child’s death.

“It did not sit well with me considering the way they ill-treated me that is why I verbally assaulted them.

“Vakaenda kunoudzwa nhema nemaporo ta avo nekuti muporo taanokuudza zvawaenda uchifunga mumoyo mako.

“Muporo ta haakwanise kuona zviri muropa saka ini ndichazotora mwana kana vandiendesa kuma DNA tests uye tagadziriswa nematare edzimhosva nekuti ndashungurudzwa kwenguva yakareba ndichinzi ndiri pfambi,” said Maramba. -H Metro

INAUGURATION EXCLUSION FOR MNANGAGWA! SO WHAT? | MAVAZA

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa will not attend this week’s inauguration of U.S. President Joe Biden, the invitation list did not include the president of Zimbabwe. It must be clear to any sane person that the invitation does not change the political trajectory of Zimbabwe. Kusaudzwa rufu hakumutsi mufi, The democratic questionable Americans decide to skip Mnangagwa from the proceedings at the U.S. Capitol on January 20 along with North Korean president Kim Jong Il and the American blacklisted rulers of Iran, Vietnam and Belarus. Surprisingly the president Mnangagwa is considered a serious security threat. America is so afraid of president Mnangagwa and already forgetting the real security risk Trump. The man who commandeered a mob in the Capitol killing over five people. Instead of arresting Trump America want to lecture to other countries by acting in a selfish manner to detract observers from scrutinising a disputed election. When Nelson Chamisa sang about illegitimacy that was sweet music and when Trump does it they ignore and no one is put on sanctions. That is double standards by America.

America is so much scared of cde Mnangagwa having declared him a threat who encouraged violence that followed the police killing of George Floyd. It is no doubt that the American’s have a paranoia. The other reason speculated by the American’s was the information provided by the
U.S. intelligence agency, the Office for Foreign Assets Control that Mnangagwa was involved in grand corruption, moving billions of dollars of state funds from the Treasury to offshore accounts run by his henchman Kudakwashe Tagwirei and a front company called Sotic International, registered in Mauritius but with secret financial dealings in the British Virgin Islands. Tagwirei was placed under sanctions by Donald Trump in August 2020. There has been no evidence whatsoever that the President of Zimbabwe is in any business partnership with Tagwirei or his companies.  The onslaught on the president is an ongoing attack on Zimbabwe and its interest.  It is not the first attack on Zimbabwe by the American’s. The Americans have got a trail of systematic attacks on Mnangagwa. Mnangagwa was first blacklisted in 2001, when the MDC brought unfounded allegations that he was the architect of the extreme violence that accompanied invasion of white-owned farms and elections.

Despite security concerns, the inauguration is expected to be a festive event attended in person or virtually by people from around the world, from government representatives to celebrities like Justin Timberlake, Demi Lovato, Jon Bon Jovi and Ant. The inauguration itself does not have any relevance on Zimbabwe or its people. The invitations are just ways of massaging the American’s ego. Friends and allies have come to distrust the United States. Trust is closely related to truth, and President Donald Trump is notoriously loose with the truth. All presidents have lied, but never on such a scale that it debases the currency of trust. International polls show that America’s soft power of attraction has declined sharply over Trump’s presidency.

Can President-elect Joe Biden restore that trust? In the short run, yes. A change of style and policy will improve America’s standing in most countries. Trump was an outlier among US presidents. The presidency was his first job in government, after spending his career in the zero-sum world of New York City real estate and reality television, where outrageous statements hold the media’s attention and help you control the agenda.

In contrast, Biden is a well-vetted politician with long experience in foreign policy derived from decades in the Senate and eight years as vice president. Since the election, his initial statements and appointments have had a profoundly reassuring effect on allies. Biden became a Senator in 1972. Yes 1972. It is therefore ironic that Biden can be qualified to choose the people he says have overstayed in politics. Biden has overstayed and is not qualified to force his democracy down the throat of any country.

Trump’s problem with allies was not his slogan “America First.” Presidents are entrusted with promoting the national interest. The important moral issue is how a president defines the national interest. Trump represented the inner feelings of the Americans and his actions are a true exposure of what America is truly about, selfish arrogant supremacist nation, self appointed is the referee of democratic indulgence. The real issue is that America is a selfish force of destabilisation for resource exploitation. Check out, DRB, Sierra Leon and Zimbabwe cannot be stable, Why? They are well endowed with resources and destabilisation creates the American highway to exploitation of such resources.
The absence of cde Mnangagwa at this sham of a democratic gathering is a blessing to Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe will not endorse the disputed elections. No American action or Zimbabwean determines the legitimacy of the other’s elections.

To start with there is CORONA. It will be irresponsible for the president to burn the dollars only to congratulate a dictator dressed like a democrat. Never in the history of democracy that an inauguration is watched over by thirty thousand heavily armed soldiers and tens of thousands secret service. Washing DC today resembles a war zone and our beloved president would not have attended such a confused militarily imposed inauguration.
The president does not feel anything by the omission of his name on the table of force. The person who follows the crowd will usually go no further than the crowd. The person who walks alone is likely to find himself in places no one has ever been before. So the president should not follow the crowd going to America.

We have come this far with all weather friends and we will stick with them. The fact that Zimbabwe is open for business does not mean we are open to abuse. This inauguration is not of any economic benefit to Zimbabwe. We had never had a single American president in our country so we never cried to have our president in America. President Mnangagwa is leading by example therefore Zimbabweans are fighting Corona by staying at home. So he is staying home with his people.
Trump chose narrow transactional definitions and, according to his former national security adviser, John Bolton, sometimes confused the national interest with his own personal, political, and financial interests. This is the difference with President Mnangagwa, he does what is best for his people the Zimbabweans. In further contrast, Zimbabwe has often taken a broad view of the national interest and did not confuse it with personal joy. Mnangagwa saw that staying at home was in Zimbabwe’s national interest.

US President-elect Joe Biden may have promised a “return to normalcy,” but the truth is that there is no going back. The world is changing in fundamental ways, and the actions the world takes in the next few years will be critical to lay the groundwork for a sustainable, secure, and prosperous future.  There is no future in attending many inaugurations. We cannot be fooled by an invitation to an inauguration Zimbabwe is open for business not inaugurations. As a nation we do not take offence in nothings.  The inauguration itself is a non-event for Zimbabwe.

At a time of unprecedented uncertainty, that mission might be a risky venture. We need to stay safe and stay at home. We need to beat Corona even more – and we remain committed to fulfilling it. To call the forthcoming US presidential inauguration of Joe Biden unprecedented would be an overstatement. Covid-19 demands social distancing—only a limited number of people will be able to attend the event, which would otherwise attract hundreds of thousands. An art installation featuring 191,500 American flags and 56 light pillars (one for each state and territory) will replace crowds on the mall.

The theme of the inauguration is “America United,” but signs of a country divided will be everywhere. Donald Trump, having just been impeached for encouraging a mob to storm the Capitol, will not attend. The incoming president will have military escorts, and the whole of Washington DC will be on high alert, so great is the risk of violence from those who refuse to accept the result of a democratic election.

So America must put its effort on its splitting nation and “Let Zimbabwe be Zimbabwe”. We are not moved by the invitation which was not. We have a lot on our plate. We know America’s envy for Zimbabwe in building a village for an embassy in Zimbabwe, Why! Why! Why? There are too many countries which do not sniff anything close to a rule by the people for the people but are friends of America whose legitimacy is not an issue and some of them are angels of the inauguration, what a shame, double standards. So, Zimbabwe’s political terrain remains intact without the invitation to the inauguration.

Zivhu “Endorses” President Chamisa

Tinashe Sambiri|Former Zanu PF MP Killer Zivhu has postulated that Douglas Mwonzora is too weak to challenge Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa in the 2023 Presidential election.

In his assertion, Zivhu notes that President Nelson Chamisa is the only man who can take on Mr Mnangagwa in the 2023 polls.

Although Zivhu was quick to point out that he would not stop supporting Mr Mnangagwa, he could not hide his admiration for President Chamisa.

“Bobi Wine all young people in Africa are behind you except those who are always used like free condoms in public toilets, who don’t believe young leadership can change Africa..

Get it right guys I don’t belong to any political party at the moment, 2023 my support goes to ED as the President .But we also need a strong opposition leader and Chamisa is the right candidate not Monzora.

Soccer Fans Fume As Warriors Crash Out Of CHAN

With everyone expecting them bounce back from the narrow defeat to Cameroon, a game they played decently, the Warriors did the opposite.

Zdravko Logarusic’s charges displayed a shambolic performance against Burkina Faso which left the football-loving public stunned last night.

An organized and tactically superior Burkina Faso outclassed Zimbabwe 3-1 to revive their campaign while their opponents became the first team to crash out of the biannual showpiece, much to the dismay of fans back home.

They started well, threaded passes and looked confident, up until they conceded against the run of play but Partson Jaure’s brilliant equalizer, one which he might remember in a long time, was exactly the response they needed.

Some were surprised by Logarusic’s decision to bench Ariel Sibanda after the Highlanders goalkeeper’s man-of-the match display in the first game but despite looking jittery in the first stages, his replacement, Dynamos’s Simba Chinani did well for the shoreline to be 1-1-at the half time break.

Captain Ian Nekati literally interacted with the referee more than with his teammates and ought to consider himself fortunate not to have been shown a red card at some point during the game.

The team was just tactically inferior to their opponents and that had nothing to do with them not being fit owing to lack of compeititive football.

The mistake made at the back in the build up to Burkinabe’s second goal summarized how poor the Warriors were.

At some point, Logarusic will probably say his charges conceded ‘naïve’ goals, that is if he hasn’t already said so, but the Croat ought to shoulder part of, if not most of the blame for how the team played.

The unstrategic manner in which they went forward and the dreadful way in which in they defended, have to be fingered to the coach.- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

FC Platinum Target Caps United Star

FC Platinum are reportedly on the verge of snapping up Innocent Muchaneka from CAPS United.

According to the H-Metro, the midfielder is already in Zvishavane as one of the few players that coach Norman Mapeza wants to sign.

The gaffer wants to bolster their squad ahead of the start of their CAF Confederation Cup campaign. The club was relegated to the second tier competition after a dismal performance against Simba SC of Tanzania in the first round last week.

A close source told the publication: “He arrived in Zvishavane on Sunday and he has already signed with the team.

“He is, however, yet to train and meet his team mates since the team has not started training as they await for clearance from SRC.

“Mapeza wants to sign at least five more players in order to boost his squad for the CAF Confederation tournament.”-Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

United States Provides 20 Ventilators to Zimbabwe to Respond to COVID-19

Harare – January 21, 2021: The United States, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), donated 20 brand-new, state-of-the-art ventilators to Solidarity Trust Zimbabwe to help Zimbabweans fight COVID-19.

“We are pleased to deliver 20 ventilators, which complement Zimbabwe’s efforts to combat COVID-19 and demonstrate the United States’ ongoing commitment to supporting the people of Zimbabwe through this crisis and beyond,” Ambassador Brian A. Nichols said at the handover.

The ventilators, produced in the United States, reflect cutting-edge technology customized to Zimbabwe’s needs and requirements. Their compact and easily deployable design will provide medical professionals with flexibility in treating patients affected by the virus. The ventilators may prove lifesaving for individuals who develop respiratory complications due to COVID-19.

In addition to the ventilators, we provided a tailored package of support, including installation, training for healthcare workers, and a one-year service agreement for regular maintenance. This donation brings the United States’ response to the pandemic in Zimbabwe to over $20 million, building on previous investments to strengthen clinical care, disseminate health messages, increase laboratory capacity, improve disease surveillance, and provide humanitarian assistance.

In Zimbabwe, the United States has provided $3.5 billion in assistance since 1980, including $1.2 billion in health assistance for diseases like HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria.

For decades, the United States has been the world’s largest provider of bilateral assistance in health. Since 2009, American taxpayers have generously funded more than $100 billion in health assistance and nearly $70 billion in humanitarian assistance worldwide.

COVID-19 Has No Political Affiliation-President Chamisa

Andy Rinomhota Eager To Play For Warriors

Andy Rinomhota is still willing to play for the Warriors, according to Zimbabwe Foreign Legion chairman Mistry Chipere.

The Reading midfielder was approached by ZIFA in 2018 but was not available for selection for the COSAFA tournament.

Passport issue was one of the reasons he failed to feature at the competition.

The player was born in the UK to a Zimbabwean father which makes him eligible to play for the Warriors.

Chipere, who has been helping in identifying foreign born talents, told The Herald: “We have had previous engagements with Rinomhota and many other players in Europe that are eligible to play for Zimbabwe.

“These guys are willing to play international football.

“Actually, Andy agreed to play and said he would want to talk to his father about the passport issue. By that time, he was still playing for the Reading Under-23 side. But then negative stories started coming up from this side and that’s the last I heard of him.”

Chipere also explained what ZIFA should do to lure these foreign-born players.

“Andy is not someone who is very difficult to link-up with if you play your cards well. He is not the only one.

“There are some other guys in our data base like Michael Ndiweni at Newcastle Under-23s, Zanda Siziba, Tawanda Chirewa and Trystan Nydam all at Ipswich Town, Bolton and Bernard Makwedza and many others that also qualify for Zimbabwe.

“They can also consider buying an air ticket for the national team coach to visit these players at their clubs so that they can also see how much you value them.”- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

I Travelled To Manicaland To Meet Oppah Digitally And To Save Muchinguri And Thousands Of Lives From COVID-19

By Simba Chikanza | Those accusing me of faking mourning for ZANU PF’s Ellen Gwaradzimba should ask many of these ZANU comrades the question: which journalist has saved their lives- for instance, who personally saved her own deputy, Victor Matemadanda when he was poisoned a few weeks ago (?) Is that not me who did it during those moments while seeing the man’s body literally ballooning? The Deputy Defence Minister is within a phone call’s reach. If these accusers don’t love people, they should go shut themselves in their hatred.

And those so called “journalists,” who don’t know that Oppah Muchinguri, is the head of the COVID Management Taskforce, saying she was abused, it was “an intrusion in personal grief,” if your media ethics are pro-death, ignoring the plight of millions who’ve died incl Gwaradzimba, and many more to come, through Muchinguri’s own making, saying Africans are immune, then go shut yourself inside your pro-death, pro-media-suppression ethics, hope that won’t be a 6 foot under pit.

Those sort of journalists who can’t tell the world is at Defcon 5, worse state than 2nd World War, I don’t have a word to describe them.

I had last Friday travelled to Manicaland to the house digitally (observing COVID and other regulations), and when she greeted me, she immediately started crying. At that point I had no choice but to join her in the crying as this is cultural, biblical, and moral – it is a common language during a bereavement. I then moved on to interview her, but obviously due to the mood of the moment, using her language (of course I am hurt by the death and many others), and then the Head Of The COVID Management Taskforce opened up on a lot of things that vulnerable members of the public should know in order to protect their lives, so that we do not have any more Ellens. These hidden things which include her own deceptions, have been kept out of the public eye for several months as hundreds die countrywide.

I still don’t understand how some so-called journos have rushed to write reports claiming that I abused the elderly woman, without simply looking at the evidence I have been presenting in live video programs since last Friday. I have been inviting critics even those I strongly disagree with for a real journalist will not hide behind the Twitter website, they come up inspect evidence, grill the source who is always available before they rush to comment anything.

For the first time in the history of the pandemic it is now very clear from my interview with the Defence Minister that people are dying all over which thing is not being reported for over a year, and even the Zanu-pf leader Mnangagwa is at risk.

One male critic has gone on to relegate Oppah’s statement that COVID is God’s sanctions against the West to mere ignorance, an announcement that she never condoned and that influenced many blacks to live reckless lives.

Can this dear brother explain the high death rate in the NHS staff among UK Zimbabweans (measured during the first wave), the highest of any nationality, which survivors point to Muchinguri,’s influencing? It is well known that of the country’s first 88 health workers, dead from COVID 33 were black Zimbabweans, after Muchinguri’s statement.

Working with Mutsvangwa?

And then there is another group making nefarious statements attempting to link me with Information Minister Monica Mutsvangwa.

Mrs Mutsvangwa’s name was inferred during my snap-interview with COVID taskforce Chairperson and Defence Minister Muchinguri last Friday on the sidelines of the funeral of Ellen Gwaradzimba.

Am I working with Mutsvangwa? Have I ever worked with her at any time? Never, and not possible. I have never talked with this lady at any time. I can’t tell why someone is cooking up such nonsense. It’s likely the Oppah faction that is creating these rumours to cover up their controversies. Let me make it clear that when I first exposed Oppah Muchinguri for smuggling hundreds of our elephants to Mozambique, under the guise of wildlife conservation, (what led to Shuvai Mahofa being assassinated in 2017) Monica Mutsvangwa was not even known, she was nowhere in govt circles. Even when I chased Oppah Muchinguri in Brussels forcing her to hide in a hotel at the EU Parliament, Mutsvangwa was nowhere near the ministry of information offices. She was at home mothering her kids.

All this seems an attempt to slow down my work in exposing Muchinguri over her management of the COVID Crisis, what has led to the death of hundreds of Zimbabweans’ .This is shameful and must be condemned by all Zimbabweans.

The adversarial-snap-interview of Muchinguri stands for all Zimbabweans to understand from her own mouth her version of what is happening in the country. The time for the truth to be told by all true journalists is now, and anyone who suppresses this can only be an enemy of the truth.

This interview exposing Africa”s most powerful female politician for causing the proliferation if coronavirus, has become the most engaged platform story for Zimbabweans locally and internationally since the pandemic started last year.

I am not the kind to be used by any politician. I serve all Zimbabweans equally and fairly. The snap interview covering a wide range of issues around the pandemic is on ZimEye for all Zimbabweans to download.

Coronavirus: Clean Your Hands Regularly And Thoroughly To Prevent Infection

Stay aware of the latest information on the COVID-19 outbreak, available on the WHO website and through your national and local public health authority. Many countries around the world have seen cases of COVID-19 and several have seen outbreaks.

The situation is unpredictable so check regularly for the latest news.

You can reduce your chances of being infected or spreading COVID-19 by taking some simple precautions:

Regularly and thoroughly clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water.

Why?Washing your hands with soap and water or using alcohol-based hand rub kills viruses that may be on your hands.

Maintain at least 1 metre (3 feet) distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing.

Why? When someone coughs or sneezes they spray small liquid droplets from their nose or mouth which may contain virus. If you are too close, you can breathe in the droplets, including the COVID-19 virus if the person coughing has the disease.

Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth

Why? Hands touch many surfaces and can pick up viruses. Once contaminated, hands can transfer the virus to your eyes, nose or mouth. From there, the virus can enter your body and can make you sick.

Make sure you, and the people around you, follow good respiratory hygiene. This means covering your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze. Then dispose of the used tissue immediately.

Why? Droplets spread virus. By following good respiratory hygiene you protect the people around you from viruses such as cold, flu and COVID-19.

Stay home if you feel unwell. If you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical attention and call in advance. Follow the directions of your local health authority.

Why? National and local authorities will have the most up to date information on the situation in your area. Calling in advance will allow your health care provider to quickly direct you to the right health facility. This will also protect you and help prevent spread of viruses and other infections.

Keep up to date on the latest COVID-19 hotspots (cities or local areas where COVID-19 is spreading widely). If possible, avoid traveling to places – especially if you are an older person or have diabetes, heart or lung disease.

Why? You have a higher chance of catching COVID-19 in one of these areas.

Amnesty International Tells Museveni to Liberate Bobi Wine And Wife

The Ugandan authorities must immediately lift the police and military siege of opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi’s home and release him and his wife Barbara Itungo Kyagulanyi. This is an arbitrary detention, said Amnesty International as the post-election blockade entered its 7th day.

Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, was declared runner-up by the Electoral Commission in last week’s presidential election, with 34.8% of the vote, behind President Yoweri Museveni, who it said got 58.6%. Bobi Wine and his National Unity Platform (NUP) party have alleged fraud.

“Robert Kyagulanyi and his wife, Barbara Kyagulanyi, are being held under house arrest without being presented before a judge and for a non-cognizable offence. This is also having an impact on his ability to challenge the presidential election results, in what appears to be a ploy to prevent the NUP from going to court in time,” said Deprose Muchena, Amnesty International’s Regional Director for East and Southern Africa.

“It is neither a crime to stand for president nor to want to challenge the election results in court. This continued confinement is politically motivated and a blatant violation of their human rights. It must be lifted immediately and without any conditions.”

Security personnel are also preventing people from accessing Robert Kyagulanyi despite him having reported that his family has run out of basic needs, including food. On 18 January, the security personnel stationed outside his house prevented the US Ambassador Natalie Brown from visiting Kyagulanyi’s residence, where she had gone to check on his health and safety, according to a statement issued by the US Embassy in Uganda on 18 January.

On the same day, security forces also raided the headquarters of the NUP party.

This is not the first time the Ugandan government has used arrests and detention to undermine opposition leaders’ plans to legally challenge presidential election results. During the 2016 election, the leading opposition presidential candidate at the time, Kizza Besigye, was barricaded in his home without charge the day after polls closed. He was later transferred to a police station when he rejected the presidential election results declaring President Museveni’s re-election and suggested that he would challenge them in court.

Then, as now, the authorities termed their actions “preventive arrest”. Police Spokesman Fred Enanga has been quoted in the media as saying Robert Kyagulanyi was placed under “preventive arrest” as he “planned to disrupt public order”, but he did not specify what crime was being planned. More than a week now after he was placed in house arrest, the authorities have yet to present any charges against him.

“The Ugandan government must immediately end the arbitrary detention of Robert Kyagulanyi and his wife. They must also cease and desist from the abusive practice of arbitrarily detaining opposition leaders without charge, which has become routine, especially during elections,” said Deprose Muchena.

According to the Presidential Elections Act, aggrieved presidential candidates must lodge their petitions in the Supreme Court registry within 10 days of the declaration of the election results. This means Robert Kyagulanyi and the NUP party have until 26 January to file an election petition.

Campaigning for the 2021 elections was marred by killings, arrests, beatings and disappearances, as well as harassment and intimidation of journalists and a five-day internet shutdown, among other human rights violations. At least 54 people were killed on 18 and 19 November, most of them shot dead by police and other members of the security forces after protests broke out following the arrest of Robert Kyagulanyi in the eastern Luuka district.

Many organizers and supporters of Robert Kyagulanyi’s party were arrested during and after election day and a number of them remain behind bars, some even after they were granted court bail.

Mwonzora Too Weak To Challenge Mnangagwa- Zivhu

I speak my mind don’t force me to speak yours, mavonero anosiyana I don’t have an Leader wokufadza because i don’t belong to any political party . Ndinotaura like any Zimbabwean anzwa nenhamo uye wangotarisira kuti Mwari vapindire mhuri dzedu dzirarame,” argued Zivhu.

JUST IN: Karoi Magistrates Court Temporarily Closed

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) on Tuesday temporarily closed Karoi Magistrates’ Court for a fumigation exercise after some of its staff tested positive for Covid-19.

Services will remain suspended until Monday next week, with urgent matters being referred to the Chinhoyi Magistrates’ Court.

“The measure is a precaution taken to allow the decontamination of the premises, contact tracing and further tests after some members of staff at the station recently tested positive for Covid-19,” said JSC head of communications and corporate affairs, Ms Rumbidzai Takawira.

“We are working with officials from the Ministry of Health and Child Care and all stakeholders to ensure a safe reopening of the station.”

Ms Takawira said the decision was aimed at protecting staff, stakeholders, legal practitioners, and accused persons and litigants from the ravaging effects of the virus.

The disinfection of Government buildings is going on well across major towns to arrest the spread of the second wave of Covid-19.

Mashonaland West Public Works Department director, Engineer Trymore Mutizwa, said his department had taken the programme to all parts of the province.

The department rolled out the exercise last week where all critical government offices in Chinhoyi were disinfected.

“We have disinfected the provincial medical directorate’s offices where the health, lands and youths ministries are housed,” said Eng Mutizwa. “Other offices that were disinfected include National Aids Council and Zanu PF offices.”

The Public Service Commission (PSC) has since reduced its workforce at all its departments and ministries to at least 30 percent, while public gatherings were reduced to a maximum of 30 people.

Tich Mataz Bags Jamaican Festival Ticket On Behalf Of Zimbabwe

STATE MEDIA: Popular host and former radio personality Tichafa Matambanadzo, affectionately known in the entertainment industry as “Tich Mataz”, has been selected to represent Zimbabwe at the upcoming Jamaican festival, organisers of the show have confirmed.

Dubbed the “Reggae Global and Culture Online”, the festival will be held virtually and will run from February 1-27 to celebrate reggae music as part of the Gregory Isaacs Foundation.

Some of the countries taking part at this year’s edition include United Kingdom, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Tanzania, Kenya, Ghana and Jamaica who will each have a representative via Zoom meetings.

In an interview, Kirsten Uhl, the director of African Museum Record Label and Media Ltd which is under the Gregory Isaacs Foundation Ltd, confirmed the developments and said the festival is held every February in Jamaica.

“February is cultural and heritage month in Jamaica and the festival features various reggae artistes from Jamaica and around the world”.

“Unfortunately, because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the festival will this year be held virtually and we have selected different personnel who will take part in the festival either as host in their country or performers. We have selected Tich to be one of the hosts,” she said.

She said that the programme has already set aside dates for each country.

“We will cross over to Zimbabwe via virtual platform where we will have Tich who will be doing live reports and some pre-recorded interviews pertaining to the reggae culture in Zimbabwe.”

She said the reggae month is usually held in the Caribbean and United States and the African continent which had been excluded before had now been included to spread the genre’s appeal.

“During the festivities, we would love to write history by including African countries that we have access to.

“Reggae fans in Africa do have the right to be involved. The Gregory Isaacs Foundation UK/EU & Africa is standing for inter-cultural exchange, therefore we also have a day called Reggae from Africa. We are very much proud to say that Wyre from Kenya, Rocky Dawuni of Ghana and Afrikan Zimba from Nigeria have confirmed their interviews. Tich will join the list,” she said.

Contacted for comment, Tich said was happy to be part of the festival and promised to deliver the best.

“The organisers of the show selected me because of my background in Highfield where I was a reggae fanatic at a tender age. I grew up being a staunch fan of the music. My brothers were in the reggae system. It means a lot to me and I promise to do the best. I host a lot of events, so whenever I get a chance, I play reggae. I guess after a thorough search, they saw me fit the role,” he said.

Tich said had started preparing and researching ahead of the festival.

“I will host the show from Zimbabwean side on the virtual platform, having interviews with some of the reggae icons locally and on the playlist,” he said.

Risk Allowance For Frontline Workers Increased

By A Correspondent- The Acting Information minister, Jenfan Muswere says government has increased the risk allowance for frontline workers as Zimbabwe battles rising cases of Covid-19.

The decision was taken after an ad-hoc Inter-ministerial Taskforce on Covid-19 meeting was held on the 18 January 2021 to deliberate on the National Covid19 response.
Muswere said, government, through the National Taskforce owes health workers a debt of gratitude.

“Those who work in the Red Zones which deal with the care of the Covid19 patients will have their allowances reviewed with the intention of compensating them adequately.”

Not much details were given on how the compensations will be reviewed.

Muswere said, “We are in the thick of the battle of our lives and our clarion call goes to everyone to play their part during this pandemic COVID 19 does not discriminate. It is blind to race and equally blind to gender. No one is safe but we can all do something about it at individual, community and national level.

Auxilia Mnangagwa Invites All Zim Women To A 3 Day Of Prayer And Fasting

By A Correspondent- The First Lady, Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa, has invited all women in the country and those abroad to join her in a three-day prayer and fasting for Zimbabwe to be spared from further calamities caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

“May I as the Mother of the Nation call upon all women in Zimbabwe, and all those abroad who may so wish, to join me in fasting and praying to the Lord the Almighty from tomorrow 21 to Saturday 23 January 2021 for our nation to be spared from further calamity and suffering. Our country has witnessed a lot of Covid-19 deaths in the past two weeks,” Amai Mnangagwa said.

“Death is within our communities, at our doorstep. There is no family that has not suffered the loss of their beloved ones because of the pandemic. Every day we hear of names that are succumbing. I thus humbly appeal to all women to commit to a three day period from tomorrow in which we fast and pray, calling for divine intervention to save the nation and our people.”

She emphasised the role that women play in strengthening families.

“As women, we play a very important role in our society.

As mothers, let us enforce compliance at the family level with measures that reduce the spread of Covid-19 amongst us.

Amai Mnangagwa called for household-level strategies that can enhance hygiene and cleanliness.

“We need a plan at the household level for regularly using any means at our disposal to clean and sanitize our homes; to ensure that everyone in the home knows the importance of having a mask and masking up properly; more importantly to organise sharp safe errands for our requirements to get going whilst enforcing the family to stay at home. Let us include the measures against Covid-19 as we play our motherly role of ensuring that every member of the family is responsible for their personal hygiene.

As we avoid and fight stigmatisation, let us ensure that all members of the family have knowledge of how to help those that have been infected and are willing to assist those that get sick to cope whilst remaining safe from infection.” she said.

“As we pray for relief in our nation, we should observe the measures for safe praying. The best is to fast and pray as individuals in our homes. For those that congregate in small numbers as allowed by the Covid-19 regulations, let us mask up and observe safe physical distancing from each other. I call upon our traditional leaders, chiefs, headmen and village heads to help spread the word in our communities that will help mothers to save the nation from further damage.

The First Lady also urged the media to promote prayer and safety at family level.

“In the same vein, I implore our mass media organisations, print, television, radio, online platforms, to help in getting the message across by hyping up your communication that helps the nation to pray together and to observe the measures that keep us safe.”

“I want to thank members of the health profession, our frontline heroes that continue to provide assistance to the sick, screening through testing to know the rate of infection and spreading awareness messages that help in compliance.

I thank members of the Security Forces for a sterling job in enforcing compliance with the Covid-19 regulations. We encourage you to keep the good work up for the security of our nation. Teachers across the country, you play a key role in getting the message across to communities. Join the crusade and spread the message.

Covid19 is taking a toll in our nation, we need to all know that Covid-19 is killing, and that there are measures that help the nation in reducing infection.

“Let us all do our part and save the nation from greater catastrophe. Practice social distancing, mask up and observe good personal hygiene by washing with soap under running water and sanitizing frequently.
I thank you.”

The First Lady’s call for prayer comes as the nation battles rising deaths and positive cases of covid-19 in Zimbabwe, a development which saw the Ministry of Health and Child Care proclaim stricter lockdown measures early January.

Macheso, Moyo Mourn Piwayi Dzuda

By A Correspondent- Alick Macheso and South Africa based musician Jonah Moyo have joined Zimbabweans in mourning the late television personality and marketer, Piwayi Dzuda.

The former Star FM Deputy General Manager died on Tuesday and is believed to have succumbed to Covid-19. Prior to his death, Dzuda — through one of his marketing agencies — hosted the Econet 2021 Tapinda Sesingenile Virtual Concert.

It was held online on December 31 where country’s top artistes comprising Macheso, Moyo, Jah Prayzah, Mathias Mhere, Ammara Brown and XQ performed.

The pre-recorded show was shot early December last year in line with the Covid-19 restrictions where the live audience was not allowed to be part of the proceedings.

In an interview with H-Metro, Macheso’s publicist Tich Makahamadze said they were saddened by Dzuda’s death.

“I can’t believe that Piwayi Dzida is no more considering that we were together last year when he organised the Econet end of year crossover gig.

“We were to perform at the show which was pre-recorded way before new year’s eve and hearing about his death came as a shock to me.

“His vision as a marketer, promoter and television personality will be greatly missed since he wanted to uplift artistes.

“We will surely miss him for all that he has done for the industry during his life,” he said.

Added Makahamadze:

“We are only praying to God to comfort Dzuda’s family during these trying times. They also need to carry on with the legacy he left behind since he was also a farmer and businessman.”

S B Moyo Meticulous Planning Saved Nation From Chaos” – Yet 3yrs On, Chaos Still Rules The Roost

By Patrick Guramatunhu- ”It is with a heavy heart that I announce Foreign Minister Dr S B Moyo has died,” announce Emmerson Mnangagwa.

“Zimbabwe has lost a devoted public servant and a true hero, and I have lost a friend. He fought his entire life so that Zimbabwe could be free. May he rest in peace.”

Minister Moyo died of corona virus.

Judging from the official corona virus data, Zimbabwe has done exceptional well in containing and controlling the virus. However, the reality on the ground tells a totally different story.

Zimbabwe has under reported the corona virus situation for the sake of cheap brownie points. One way of keeping the corona virus figures down was by not testing as rigorously as World Health Organisation recommended and common sense dictated.

Zimbabwe has carried out few tests per capita than most other countries in the region, notably South Africa given the heavy human traffic across the common boarder.

The price of failing to test is many infected individuals would should otherwise be in isolation remain in the community spreading the virus far and wide. And the country is now paying the price for it!

The number of corona virus cases and deaths have soared way above the official figures. The country’s feeble health care service is already overwhelmed; the country is running out of oxygen let alone the fancy equipment like ventilators, PPE, etc.

Whilst the wealth nations have started to roll out a massive vaccination programme; Zimbabwe will have to wait for a year or so for donated vaccine. The corona virus storm has just broken and no one knows how long this wave will last!

Zimbabweans are dying of the corona virus the Zanu PF government has tried hard to deny was spreading!

“His (the late S B Moyo) meticulous planning and execution of pertinent events saved the nation from chaos and bloodshed. He would go on to tackle the pariah status of the nation on his appointment as Foreign Minister,” rejoined Information Minister Monica Mutsvangwa, singing Moyo’s praise.

“This is a terrible and painful loss of a great patriot! He was central to the peaceful transfer of power through the 2017 November restoration of the revolution.”

This is all rubbish and she and the rest of her Zanu PF colleagues know it!

No one of substance was ever fooled into believing the nonsense about the November military coup being “a military assisted transition!” It was a military coup, plain and simple.

The reason why most people did not even bother to denounce the coup is because they were sick and tired of Mugabe and were pleased to see the back of him. They were, however, not exactly bowled over by the new regime because they knew the same junta that toppled Mugabe was the one that had kept the dictator in power all the last 37 years.

Yes Minister Moyo make a big song and dance about how he would re-engage the international  community and end Zimbabwe’s isolation. He became Mnangagwa’s principle cheerleader of the “Zimbabwe is open for business!” mantra.

Within months of the coup, the mantra was dead in the water and so too was the re-engagement. The blatant vote rigging in the July 2018 elections left no one in any doubt that Zimbabwe was still a pariah state ruled by (the same) corrupt, incompetent, vote rigging and murderous thugs.

Investors are a very shrewd and savvy lot, they do not do business with pariah states, hence the reason the much hoped for economic recovery has never materialised.

History will remember the late S B Moyo as the man who tried to sell the world the lie that the November 2017 military coup was “military assisted transition” – just some idiotic nonsense. The real surprise is he clearly believed the nonsense and so did many of his Zanu PF comrades.

“The lizard that jumped from a high Iroko tree to the ground said he would praise himself if no-one else did,” said Chinua Achebe, one of Africa’s truly illustrious sons.

In this case, Zanu PF bigwigs are queuing to praise S B Moyo for jumping from a high Iroko tree, a tree only they can see!

Sekuru Banda Speaks On Uptake Of Zumbani, Snuff to Cure COVID-19

By A Correspondent| Popular Harare based traditional healer, Sekuru Banda has added his voice on the topical discussion around the use of herbs and snuff to fight COVID-19, urging people to reduce uptake of the widely recommended concoctions to avoid negative effects.

In an interview with ZimEye, Sekuru Banda said as much as people are encouraged to take zumbani leaves to boost immunity, they should take it in small quantities and even skipping days.

On snuff, Sekuru Banda said it should not be taken for preventative purposes but only as cure, saying it has nicotine which makes it addictive if continuously taken.

“Snuff has nicotine and people should only take it when they are not feeling well because continuously taking it may cause serious health problems like heart disease, pancreatic cancer and can also block nasal passage.

“This is on top of it being addictive such that if you take it everyday you end up wanting to have it always. But you are not feeling well, you can take snuff because it cures a lot of ailments, it also clears the chest especially to those with COVID-19,” said Sekuru Banda.

He also spoke on steam inhalation which he said should not be an everyday routine.

“People should not over-do steam inhalation especially when they do it as a preventative measure, because the body may become resistant to it,” added Zuma.

There has been a lot of debate about use of indigenous knowledge system in curing COVID-19 which has resulted in people taking Lippia javanica commonly known as zumbani which is consumed in form of tea.

Snuff which is a product of tobacco has also been thrown into the ring as another remedy for COVID-19 with proponents of the drug saying it causes sneezing which clears the nasal chest especially to those struggling with breathing.

COVID-19 continues to claims tens of lives in Zimbabwe everyday.

Government recently announced that vaccines will only be available later into the year leaving people without a choice but to continue with home remedies.

Chemhanza Deputy Head Arrested

By A Correspondent- The deputy headmaster of Chemhanza High School in Hwedza has been arrested over allegations of brutally assaulting 23 pupils.

Tthe police have confirmed the development.

Over the past few days, images of bruised young teenage girls circulated on social media bringing up widespread indignation and condemnation from concerned parents and individuals.

52-year-old Tarirai Mararike was arrested after 23 pupils filed a police report regarding the alleged assault, he is expected to appear in court this week.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest saying:

Police have picked a suspect in connection with the assault of learners at Chemhanza High School.

Twenty-three pupils who are alleged to have been assaulted made a police report and by yesterday (Tuesday) police had picked up the school’s deputy head.

Asst Comm Nyathi said on the 16th of January the school matron ordered one of the girls to go to Marimbike’s office where she was reportedly beaten up.

Reports are that she was beaten on her back and a science laboratory pipe was used.

The pupil told her mother about it, and the mother made a police report.

On January 18, 22 other pupils made a police report against the suspect. We are currently investigating the incident, he said

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has since condemned the illegal and inhuman assault on the teenage girls.

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education is concerned about the assault of pupils at Chemhanza High School allegedly by school authorities and strongly condemns such inhumane disciplinary measures on our learners in a complete violation of Section 68A (5) of the Education Act as per Education Amendment Act of 2020, said Mr Taungana Ndoro the Ministry’s spokesperson.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that the 23 girls were beaten up for making noise during examination time while another version suggests that the girls were caught behaving mischievously.

Commuters Stranded As ZUPCO Withdraws Services Over Bad Roads

By A Correspondent- Commuters from Robert Sinyoka in Bulawayo were yesterday left stranded in the CBD after ZUPCO withdrew its buses citing bad roads.

Robert Sinyoka and Mazwi village are peri-urban settlements a few kilometres outside Bulawayo, just after Pumula South.

Zimbabwe Passengers Association general secretary Paul Makiwa said Zupco was supposed to give commuters notice before withdrawing their buses.

Meanwhile, the MDC Alliance has condemned the recently government approved 100% Zupco bus fare increase as anti-poor.

The opposition party said the move was clear testimony that the government continued to turn a blind eye on the plight of the poor majority, especially in COVID-19 times.

In a statement, Mbizo MP Settlement Chikwinya, who is the party’s national secretary for transport and logistics, said powerful corrupt business moguls were using the government as a conduit to further their business interests while the poor continued to suffer.

By A Correspondent- President Emmerson Mnangagwa has cut his annual leave short to preside over the joint burial for liberation warfighters, Dr Ellen Gwaradzimba and Morton Dizzy Paul Malianga.

Gwaradzimba, the former Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution succumbed to COVID-19 while Malianga, (91) who was a Zanu PF Central Committee member died after a prolonged battle with an undisclosed ailment.

Ginimbi’s Botswana Empire Crumbling

By A Correspondent- The late socialite and businessman Genius “Ginimbi” Kadungure’s Botswana empire is crumbling after the neighbouring country’s Energy Regulatory Authority (BERA) ordered the closure of his Quick Gases (Pty) Ltd trading as Liquefied Petroleum Gas.

According to Botswana’s leading daily, Mmegi, the action by the authority is a result of a wrangle over control of Ginimbi’s assets that has since spilled into the courts.

A fierce fight is raging between the Kadungure family appointed executor, Ms Patricia Darangwa and Mr Leo Chiweshe, whom Ginimbi had appointed to manage the Botswana operations through power of attorney.

It is understood that the dispute has started taking a toll on the company’s employees and clients.

The clients are stuck as they are reportedly failing to refill gas cylinders distributed by Ginimbi’s company at other dealerships and BERA last Friday advised the public to take back the Quick Gases cylinders to the company’s facility in Pilane where they would exchange them for more user friendly cylinders.

BERA spokesman, Mr Tshepang Monare, said they had many reports of people failing to refill their gas cylinders belonging to Quick Gases.

He said they had established that the chaos was a result of the ongoing court case.

“We had to step in and make sure they assist customers while awaiting a permanent solution,” he told Botswana media.

Indications are that the Kadungures appointed Ms Darangwa to handle the flamboyant businessman’s estate following his demise in a horrific car crash last November.

Three of his friends were burnt to death when Ginimbi’s Rolls Royce Wraith collided with a Honda Fit as he drove to his Domboshava mansion.

At the centre of the (court) battle is Quick Gases (Pty) Ltd and Matiflex Oils (Pty) Ltd, which Kadungure was running in Botswana.

It is reported that Mr Chiweshe refused to meet and handover the control of the business empire to Ginimbi’s family and their appointed executor.

Ms Darangwa, with the family’s backing, is seeking to get Mr Chiweshe’s power of attorney nullified with the two companies being declared as not having directors following Ginimbi’s death.

In addition, the executor wants the court to confirm the appointment of Ms Juliet Kadungure and Nomatter Zinyengere as financial and operations directors of the said companies.

She wants Mr Chiweshe to give an account of the affairs of the companies and that he be interdicted and restrained from interfering with the executor’s duties, considering that the power of attorney he was acting on became invalid when Ginimbi died.

The late businessman and socialite was laid to rest at his Domboshava home after leading a short, but lavish lifestyle.-statemedia

“SB Moyo’s Meticulous Planning Saved Nation from Chaos” – Yet 3 Yrs On, Chaos Still Rules the Roost

By Patrick Guramatunhu | ”It is with a heavy heart that I announce Foreign Minister Dr S B Moyo has died,” announce Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Can Your Employer Force You to Have a COVID-19 Test?

coronavirus

By Denford Madekufamba and Dr. Masimba Mavaza | There are times the situation calls for measures which are tough but protecting the public and making work places safe. The world has embraced a world order which would have been pervasive in normal circumstances. In most work places there are new rules pinned on notice boards and our emails become recipient to some of the strange rules to be brought up by COVID 19.
It is said the tough situations will always call for tough solutions.

Many absurd work place rules have been brought up. It is common to see a new bold sign saying “NO COUGHING”. In one office there was a strange warning “ NEVER MIND THE SMILE COVER YOUR FACE” It used to be embarrassing to fart in public now it can be an offence just to cough.

In some work places you can be fired for not covering your face with an appropriate face mask. Banks never used to allow people with masks near their doors now the signs are clear “No MASK NO ENTRY “.

The current Coronavirus pandemic has led to people changing the manner we do things. All is done to protect each other from each other and make the work place safe. The workplace environment is no longer what it used to be before the advent of the pandemic. What was called anti social behaviour is now called social distancing, such are the fruits of fighting a pandemic of such a proportion. Employers, and employees alike, have had to adjust to a new work environment. For example, wearing masks at work and employers requiring mandatory COVID-19 tests in some workplaces. This raises the question of the legality of an employer forcing an employee to take a COVID-19 test.

Employers, as the owners of the workplace have a common law right to order the workplace. This means that the employer may put in place measures for the protection of employees, for as long as those measures do not violate the Labour Act [Chapter 28:01], the Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment (No.20) Act, 2013 or other laws applicable to the workplace. There is a paucity of jurisprudence or cases on this matter, locally and internationally.

However, given how easily and quickly this pandemic is spreading, it is most likely that if and when cases or challenges are made to COVID-19 testing, if the measures have been put in place for a legitimate health or business purpose, a presiding officer is likely to find that such measures are necessary. As they say, prevention is better than cure.
Testing and isolating those who test positive would in no small way aid the effort to stop the rapid and uncontrolled spread of this pandemic. Employees have a right to privacy. The Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment (No.20) Act guarantees everyone the right to privacy, section 57 thereof. The right to privacy includes employees not being bound to disclose their health condition to their employer or the employer wanting to know their health status.

People also have protection against personal searches. As COVID-19 can be intrusive on the body, forcing employees to be tested could potentially violate this provision. This right is not absolute, though. In the interest of public health, for greater good, it may be pierced. An employee’s right to privacy is balanced against the employer’s obligation to provide a safe workplace. Section 86 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment (No.20) Act puts constraints on fundamental personal rights because such rights have to be “exercised reasonably and with due regard for the rights and freedoms of other persons”. Public health considerations are permitted by this section to trump personal fundamental rights and freedoms.

The state also expects employers to enforce any health measures put in place by the government. So, for example, the wearing of masks in the workplace can be enforced by the employer on this basis. Employers, to the extent possible, have an obligation to reduce or stop the spread of COVID-19 in the workplace. One way of doing this would be to force employees to take COVID-19 tests. As this would be an employer initiative, in its fulfillment of the duty to provide a safe workplace, the employer would have to pay for such tests. Section 65 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment (No.20) Act provides employees with “the right to fair and safe labour practices and standards”. Accordingly, for as long as it can be shown that mandatory COVI-19 testing fulfills “the need to ensure that the enjoyment of rights and freedoms by any person does not prejudice the rights and freedoms of others” and that there are no other “less restrictive means of achieving the purpose” other than interfering with employee rights and freedoms, mandatory COVID-19 challenges are likely to be dismissed by the courts.

Based on section 104(4) of the Labour Act, employees have a right to refuse to perform work that is unsafe. Employees can resort to a strike or picketing to enforce that right and “in order to avoid any occupational hazard which is reasonably feared to pose an immediate threat to the health or safety of the per-sons concerned”. A workplace with COVID-19 cases can be deemed to be unsafe to work. This would be one more justification why an employer may carry out mandatory COVID-19 testing. Section 6 of the Labour Act also obligates employers to protect the health or safety of employees. If the workplace has a registered trade union, it would be best for the employer to discuss the matter of mandatory employee testing with the worker’s committee. The Labour Act, section 25A, states that works councils should “promote the general and common interest, including the health, safety and welfare of both the establishment and its workers.”

Mandatory testing may collide with employee’s right to be treated with dignity as section 51 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment (No.20) Act says “Every person has inherent dignity in their private and public life, and the right to have that dignity respected and protected.” Consequently, testing should be done in a respectful way. This may include, not doing mass testing at the workplace, without affording employees privacy.

There is a recent arbitration decision from Ontario, Canada, that might provide guidance on the issue of mandatory COVID-19 testing by employers. In Garda Security Screening Inc. v. IAM, District 140, an employee grieved the termination of their contract of employment for violation of the employer’s COVID-19 guidelines, adopted for the employer’s workplace. Among other things, an employee was required to isolate while waiting for results of a COVID-19 test. The employee tested positive for COVID-19. It was found that they had attended work while waiting for the COVID-19 test results. Although the employee claimed that they were not aware of the self-isolation requirement, evidence showed that the employee had been aware of the requirement to self-isolate but ignored this requirement. The arbitrator upheld the firing of the employee because the requirement was clear and that the employee showed no remorse at all for their actions which endangered the health of the other employees and the public at large. The arbitrator also highlighted the fact that COVID-19 is no joking matter as it may cause death. As such, dismissal of the employee was fitting.

With the experience gained while dealing with this pandemic, it may be advisable for employers to negotiate the inclusion of mandatory testing with respect to public health concerns or easily communicable and dangerous diseases in collective agreements. That said, the employer could go it alone by creating and putting in place policies that are consistent with keeping the workplace safe. Workplace policies, in general, are likely to be upheld, when challenged, if they are clear and unambiguous. Additionally, an employer would bear the burden of showing that the policy in question was brought to the attention of the employees before its implementation. In other words, prior notification of the policy would be required. It would also be necessary to prove that employees were made aware of the disciplinary consequences of breaching the policy. Above all, the policy would have to be reasonable. While that would certainly help, the employer does not have to wait until there is a case of COVID-19 at the workplace, before putting in place COVID-19 testing measures.

We all need to act responsibly and always remember that good health comes at an expense. The fruits of a healthy nation are protected by the sacrificing some luxuries. Breaching some luxurious rights may save a life most probably yours.

Zanu PF Weaponising COVID-19 Against Opponents

Earlier today I spoke to Fadzayi Mahere who briefed me of the unsanitary conditions in our jails & her own positive COVID19 test after her unjust detention.

Simba SC Target Peter Muduhwa

DETAILS have emerged that Tanzanian football champions Simba SC want Warriors and Highlanders defender Peter Muduhwa to join them on a free four-month loan.

The loan deal will see Muduhwa playing in the Caf Champions League.

Chronicle Sport has it on good authority that the Tanzanian club has enlisted the services of football agent George Deda, who handled Prince Dube’s move to Azam, to negotiate on their behalf.

“Simba want Muduhwa to join them on a free loan and should he impress during the Caf Champions League games, they intend to sign him in a permanent deal. The player will be well catered for during his stay. With the Zimbabwean league inactive, it will be a good deal for the player,” said the source.

Simba are looking at reinforcing their squad for the money-spinning Caf Champions League mini-league stage and were impressed by Muduhwa’s performance against Cameroon in the opening Chan match that Zimbabwe lost 1-0.

Simba also swooped on FC Platinum striker Perfect Chikwende last Friday and have been assessing clubless Zimbabwean defender Kelvin Moyo, who left South African Premiership side Chippa United last year.

Simba knocked out Zimbabwe champions FC Platinum from the Caf Champions League and have been grouped with continental champions Al Ahly of Egypt, DR Congo’s AS Vita and Sudanese giants Al Merrikh in the mini-league phase.-Chronicle

Latest On Case Of Woman Who Claims She Was Raped By Prof Jonathan Moyo

POLICE Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga has directed police in Bulawayo to look for veteran modelling instructor Ms Sipho Ncube-Mazibuko as part of investigations following her rape allegations against self-exiled G40 kingpin Professor Jonathan Moyo.

Ms Ncube-Mazibuko posted on her Facebook page last Friday claiming that Prof Moyo raped her 11 years ago while she was pregnant.

She said efforts to report Prof Moyo, whom she said was powerful at the time, were ignored.

At the time, self-exiled former Commissioner-General Augustine Chihuri was still at the helm of the police services.

Prof Moyo, believed to be in Kenya, fled the country in November 2017 during Operation Restore Legacy. He is wanted by the police after absconding court where he is facing charges of allegedly diverting US$244 575 from the Zimbabwe Manpower Development Fund (Zimdef).

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said although Ms Ncube-Mazibuko has not yet formally made a police report, the officer commanding police in Bulawayo, Commissioner Patton Mbangwa, has been instructed to handle the matter.

“The officer commanding Bulawayo is trying to get in touch with Ms Ncube-Mazibuko so that we can verify her statement on Facebook and conduct inquiries. She has not made a formal report, but I can confirm that the officer commanding police in Bulawayo is looking for her,” he said.

Ms Ncube-Mazibuko said “some powerful men” do not care whether one is married or not or whether one consents or not.

“Well, I was sexually abused by Professor Jonathan Moyo and was too scared to even report or tell anyone until that fateful day 11 years ago when I went and told the police at Bulawayo Central Police Station what he had done to me,” she said.

Ms Ncube-Mazibuko wrote on her Facebook page: “Well, I have decided to empty my closet and speak out about a man who sexually abused me when I was pregnant and went on to silence me because he was very powerful and untouchable.”

“I went to the police to open a docket against these evil men who had tormented my mind with sexual and emotional abuse.”

She said police recorded her statement but nothing was done to investigate my case.- The Herald
