South Africa Covid-19 Death Toll Surpasses 7 000

Minister Zweli Mkhize

Two hundred and ninety-eight more people have died in South Africa after contracting the coronavirus, pushing the national death toll to over 7,000.

Over 7,000 new infections have been confirmed in the last 24-hour cycle, taking the country’s total number of known cases since March to more than 452,000.

On the positive front, the recovery rate is now over 60% for the first time in months.

There is one promising statistic amid the rising death toll: the Health Ministry says the recovery rate has shot up to 61%.

Corruption Charged Natpharm Board Members Granted Uncontested Bail

State Media

FOUR NatPharm board members, including the chairman and his deputy appeared in court over the weekend facing allegations of failing to retire managing director, Florah Nancy Sifeko, when her tenure of office lapsed.

Board chairman Billy Rigava, his deputy Rachael Chibaya, board members Johnson Shonhe and Harunavamwe Notburga Chifamba appeared at the Harare Magistrates Court charged with criminal abuse of office.

They were all not asked to plead to the charges when they appeared before magistrate Victoria Mashamba, who remanded them to August 12 on $3 000 bail.

Circumstances leading to their arrest are that on June 1, 2006 Sifeku was appointed managing director for NatPharm under a renewable three-year contract.

Sifeku’s contract was renewed by the board up until her last contract, which started on June 1, 2015 to May 31, 2018.

The court heard that on July 31, 2018 former NatPharm chairman Dr George Washaya wrote a notice of retirement to Sifeku, which also said the board had taken notice of her age.

It is said the notice also outlined that Sifeku was no longer eligible for reappointment according to the Public Entities Corporate Governance Act after having served the organisation for 10 years.

The notice was also said to have served as extension of Sifeku’s contract from June 1, 2018 to November 30 of the same year.

On November 28, 2018 NatPharm received a circular from the Office of the President and Cabinet outlining procedure for termination of public entities’ chief executives who had served for more than 10 years as guided by the Public Entities Corporate Governance Act.

The court heard that the NatPharm Board chaired by Dr Washaya was dissolved leaving the pharmaceutical company to operate from October 2019 to June 2019 without a board.

Sifeku, according to the State, was reporting directly to the Minister of Health and Child Care.

On July 1, 2019 Natpharm appointed a board.

It is said on July 18 of the same year, a human resources committee meeting chaired by Chifamba was held and the issue of recruiting a new managing director was raised and captured in the minutes.

On November 30, Sifeku’s contract expired and she reportedly continued to work without a contract and President’s approval of her re-appointment.

The court heard that on November 30, 2019 NatPharm held a human resources committee meeting where the issue of recruiting a new managing director was raised and resolved that it be discussed in the main board meeting.

Accusations against the quartet are that they failed to terminate Sifeku’s employment, which was part of their duties.

During the time Sifeku continued to work, she received salaries and benefits amounting to $631 997 and US$2 865

ZANU PF Youth Vow To Die For Mnangagwa Against July 31 Protests.

Tendai Chirau

Zanu PF youths have angrily reacted to the MDC Alliance Spokesperson Fadzai Mahere’s call for party members to go out in numbers and join the July 31 nationwide protests against corruption and the general mismanagement of the country by President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s ZANU PF government.

Led by youth league Secretary General Tendai Chirau, the party youth said they would defend Mnangagwa and any attempts to remove him from power would be resisted.

“We reiterate our support for President Emmerson Mnangagwa, and it is in this light that if there are any issues we have as a nation, we have to do it through patriotic means. There are better ways to address the issues rather than using demonstrations, especially in this time of COVID-19. It becomes a cause for concern,” he said.

Government has insisted the July 31 demonstrations are being fuelled by the West.

“The mortal fear of Africa by the West is the economic success of a self-sustainable African nation. Zimbabwe now offers that prospect after braving devastating sanctions by the West for two decades. No wonder the pandemonium being engendered by the fear of a good example,” Information minister Monica Mutsvangwa said in a statement on Saturday.

She said Mnangagwa was aware of the “evil and devilish” agenda by the West.

“President Mnangagwa and his government are fully apprised on this evil agenda and devilish machinations. We will keep the course of re-engagement while safeguarding the nation from a slide to chaos,” Mutsvangwa said.

“Take To The Streets: Fadzai Mahere Urges MDC Alliance Members

NewsDay

Fadzai Mahere with Nelson Chamisa

THE opposition MDC Alliance spokesperson, Fadzai Mahere, has urged Zimbabweans to unite and join the nationwide protests pencilled in for July 31 against the Zanu PF regime erosion of basic freedoms and confront State corruption.

Speaking to NewsDay Mahere said the only option was for Zimbabweans to take to the streets and confront the regime.

“What do we do? We take to the streets, we have to find our collective voice, and it’s not just about the 31st of July. I think that’s what I need to emphasise that’s just about one day, so it’s not as if once the 31st of July comes and goes, we sort of forget about the need to stand up and speak out against the government. There is no magic around that day.

There is need to unite. Speaking out against the government has to be a continuous obligation on each citizen,” Mahere said.

She said it was now time for Zimbabweans to unite and speak with one voice because the system had declared war on citizens.

“We have to form a broad church, nobody is safe whether it’s MDC Alliance MPs, church leaders, teachers, nurses, civic society, business, they are coming for everybody. So it’s time for us to all come together and say Zanu PF must go because the system has declared war on everybody, on all of us, so we have to find our collective voice.”

The MDC Alliance spokesperson said people needed to fight for basic rights and freedoms such as access to health and general welfare which were under threat.

“Regardless of the fact that we are hungry and the cost of living is escalating and we cannot afford public health, people should be allowed to come out on the 31st of July regardless of who is organising it and they should be able to do that on any other day. People have the right to do that peacefully, socially distanced you know, even if it’s during the time of COVID-19 people should be allowed to express themselves. There is no law on earth which says during a pandemic people cannot protest,” she said.

Despite indications that government would thwart the demonstrations before they even begin, Mahere said more was at stake for the people of Zimbabwe.

“The right to a livelihood, the right to public health, all of these rights are under threat, the right to access information. We have been asked to pay taxes in terms of the law and yet these taxes are spent on farm mechanisation, tractors, and when we ask who gets all these tractors, they arrest journalists doing their work,” she said.

“They deny these journalists bail, but yet the very people who are corrupt, the very people who are stealing COVID-19 money, the State surprisingly says no we are not going to challenge bail against you.

“When we say corruption is killing us, when we say human rights are under threat, when we say we can’t breathe, this is precisely what we mean. Human rights, freedom, Constitution all these are in existence for our security as a people.”

The MDC Alliance said Mnangagwa, politics and the clampdown on human rights were the major problems in Zimbabwe and not the economy.

“Then they say we have an economic crisis. No, that’s not where our crisis is, our crisis is political in nature. If we allow people to be free, if we allow people to breathe in an environment where they have all these freedoms, we will be fine,” she said.

“The other day, my EcoCash data was in the hands of some random police officer. How is that normal? How is that OK? I gave my records to EcoCash, I subscribed, I have a right to privacy and the next thing I know, some police officer says no, they now have my name, address, phone number. That is not freedom.”

The police on July 17 were granted an order against Econet, which has more than 11 million subscribers, to hand over details of its mobile money transactions and subscribers on EcoCash because authorities suspect its network was used in money-laundering.

Econet successfully challenged the warrant at the High Court last week saying it constituted a violation of the company and its subscribers’ right to privacy.

CABS Arundel Branch Closed Again Following A Series Of Covid-19 Infections – Full Statement

Dear Valued Customer

Following our communication on the reopening of the Arundel branch we regret to inform you that we have had to reclose the branch.

On 20 July 2020, one of our staff members disclosed that they may have come in contact with a Covid 19 infected person. They were immediately sent for Rapid Diagnostic Testing (RDT) which, however, tested negative. As a precautionary measure, all the branch staff were sent for RDT testing. Unfortunately, a member of staff tested positive and they were immediately released to go home and isolate, while further tests were being carried out.

The more accurate Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test was conducted, while we closed the branch for disinfection.

On 22 July the disinfected branch was reopened, with staff members whose tests were negative, reporting for duty. However, the PCR test result for the affected member of staff, also came back as positive and hence we have made the decision to close the branch and allow all staff members to go for PCR tests and self-isolate for 14 days, as a precautionary measure.

Key Figure In ZDF US$20m Fraud Dies Mysteriously Day Before Appearing In Court

TimesLive

Peter Muchakazi (left)

The central figure in a fraud case involving more than US$20m siphoned from Zimbabwe’s ministry of defence died a day before he was due in court.

Peter Muchakazi, 56, an army procurement officer, according to sources, died just a few hours after complaining of chest pains. Ministry of defence secretary Mark Grey Marongwe confirmed Muchakazi’s death to TimesLIVE.

“The family of the deceased will be in a better position to comment about how he died,” he said.

Muchakazi was suspected to be the ringleader of a well-orchestrated con whereby fake invoices were raised for services allegedly rendered to the ministry. The fraud wrap faced by Muchakazi, his co-accused Jonathan Tandangu, Dhuvai Muzenda and Maria Fungisai Chiurira in December last year drew the attention of the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) as some army commanders were also investigated for being part of the rot.

ZimEye.com early this year reported that the matter involving Muchakazi was the reason behind Danison Muvandi, the director of finance and human resources, fleeing the country. His whereabouts is unknown.

Allegations of corruption at the ministry of defence investigated by ZACC implicate army officers and civilian employees. In December, army chief-of-staff quartermaster Maj-Gen Hlanganani Dube — one of the ZDF’s top five commanders — was implicated in the theft of 30 tonnes of beef from a recruitment training depot in Matabeleland South.

Dube’s driver was arrested by counterintelligence operatives and pointed the finger at his boss, who was put on forced leave pending completion of an investigation.

The commander of One Commando regiment in Harare, Lt-Col Enock Chivhima, was arrested last May and charged with stealing beef rations meant for his troops.

He and eight other soldiers were also arrested on suspicion of stealing donations for victims of Cyclone Idai.

The looting at the ministry was unearthed at a time when soldiers in barracks had to do with only one meal a day.

Veteran Lawyer And Peace Builder Simplisius Chihambagwe Arrested

State Media

Senior lawyer Simplisius Julius Chihambakwe has appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts facing allegations of failing to declare his interests to the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) where he was a board member when his law firm started collecting money owed to the authority.

Chihambakwe, of Chihambakwe, Mutizwa and Partners, appeared before Harare regional magistrate Mr Trynos Utahwashe yesterday charged with corruptly concealing an interest from a principal.

While collecting Zesa debts, the law firm earned US$3 098 248 commission.

Chihambakwe was not asked to plead to the charges and was remanded to 21 August for routine remand on $10 000 bail.

The State led by Ms Sheila Mupindu alleges that in January 2016, Chihambakwe, Mutizwa and Partners started collecting debts on behalf of Zesa’s distribution arm, ZETDC, without signing a contract.

At the time, Chihambakwe was a board member of Zesa and he allegedly failed to disclose his interests.

On 31 May 2016, the law firm is said to have received US$5 000 as debt collection disbursement from ZESA Holdings.

The court heard that the matter was raised during the Zesa Holdings 36th board of directors committee meeting held on May 26, 2016.

Chihambakwe is said to have later declared his interests as a senior partner in the law firm.

It is alleged that Chihambakwe later signed the contract for debt collection on 3 June 2016 but that there was no Zesa board resolution then and none until the end of the board’s term.

The court heard that from January 2016 to December last year, the law firm was paid commissions totalling US$3 098 248.

Hopewell Chinono Challenges Court’s Decision To Keep Him In Prison

Hopewell Chinono

Hopewell Chin’ono yesterday approached the High Court to appeal the refusal of a magistrates’ court to grant him bail pending trial on charges of incitement to commit public violence.

Harare regional magistrate Mr Ngoni Nduna denied Chin’ono bail last week on the grounds that he was likely to continue posting statements on social media that have the effect of instigating public violence if freed on bail.

He was remanded in custody to August 7.

Chin’ono is being charged with incitement to commit public violence or alternatively incitement to participate in a gathering with the intent to promote public violence.

Though Chino’no argued, through his lawyer, Ms Beatrice Mtetwa of Mtetwa and Nyambirai Legal Practitioners, during the bail hearing at his initial remand, that there was no reference to violence in his tweets, Mr Nduna ruled that the interpretation of the activist’s tweets would be dealt with during trial and upheld the State fears that he was likely to re-offend once released on bail.

Charges against Chin’ono arose after he allegedly posted messages calling for mass demonstrations by any means against Government on July 31.

Latest On Marry Chiwenga Trial

THE trial of Marry Mubaiwa on charges of assaulting her maid was yesterday deferred after she told the court that she cannot stand trial at the moment because of ill-health.

Mubaiwa, who is the estranged wife of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, made an application through lawyer Ms Beatrice Mtetwa for the trial to be moved to another date since she was still recovering and needed more time to recuperate.

During her application for deferment of the matter, Ms Mtetwa produced photographs of Mubaiwa, which she said were evidence enough to prove that her client was unwell.

Mubaiwa is facing assault charges after she allegedly attacked her former maid, Delight Munyoro.

She appeared before Harare regional magistrate Mrs Marehwanazvo Gofa, who remanded her to September 7 to 9 on a continuous roll for trial.

The State led by Mr Charles Muchemwa and Mrs Netsai Mushayabasa consented to the application for deferment, saying they had taken Mubaiwa’s condition into account.

“Of note is that State’s witnesses had been continuously attending court without the trial kicking-off,” said Mr Muchemwa.

“We have taken note of her condition and we hope that by the next court appearance she will be in a position to stand trial.”

The incident which led to Mubaiwa’s arrest occurred at Hellenic School in Harare, at a time when she and the Vice President were fighting for the custody of their children- The Herald

Zanu PF Threatens To Expel US Ambassador

The ruling party has threatened to expel US Ambassador Brian Nichols as it is accusing him of interfering with local politics.

Patrick Chinamasa said this during a press conference in Harare this afternoon.

Chinamasa laid into Ambassador Nichols and said he should be ashamed of himself and that African Americans were not treated well in America hence he didn’t have the right to talk about human rights abuses in Zimbabwe and said:

I want to warn them (foreign diplomats) that it is high time to know that Zimbabwe is a sovereign Republic and we are a full sovereign state under the Montevideo Convention.

The US ambassador whom I am told is African-American, must be totally ashamed of himself.

What has the United States has to offer in terms of values and human rights observance when his own African American people are treated like rats in full view of world media and he remains an Uncle Tom used to propagate values which by themselves they do not practice on their own people.

He later on said the ruling party- but not the government -since he cannot speak on behalf of the government- would not hesitate to expel him if he doesn’t heed to their warning before calling him a thug:

He continues to engage in acts of undermining this Republic and if he does so, if he continues engaging in acts of undermining the Republic mobilizing and funding disturbances coordinating violence and training insurgency our leadership will not hesitate to give him his marching orders.
Diplomats should not behave like thugs and Brian Nichols is a thug.

We remind Nichols that he is not a super Diplomat in this country. There are several Diplomats seconded to this republic from African Union countries and the world over. They have never masqueraded and pretended to be our prefects as Mr Nichols is doing.

We have nothing to learn from the United States or from countries which impose sanctions
It is still not clear, when, how and where the US ambassador has interfered with local politics.

However, the embassy has been from time to time pointed out human right abuses that bedevil the country and target mainly opposition party members.
It is still not clear how this attack will affect relations between Harare and Washington.

Ambassador Nichols is yet to respond to the ruling party’s threats- All Africa

EXPOSED: The 38 Page Document ZRP Is Using To Arrest President Nelson Chamisa

By Simba Chikanza | ZANU PF has hatched a sophisticated plot to arrest MDC Alliance President Nelson Chamisa ahead of the upcoming 31 July demonstration (not associated with the MDC Alliance party).

https://youtu.be/0_yTJcbPzFI

Since the weekend, ZimEye has perused a 33 page state security document that lays out the full plan meant to both discredit and apprehend President Chamisa. The development comes as two other plots earlier in the year, were foiled at conception after ZimEye exposed them all, one which included the state planting fake terrorists in neighbouring Mozambique to doctor trumped up charges against Chamisa.

The full 33 page document will be published on ZimEye today.

In the military plot, a group of MDC members will be arrested and then forced to implicate Chamisa in exchange for their release.

To confirm the scheme, by Tuesday morning the state owned Herald paper had published the below yellow paper:

MDC Alliance leader Mr Nelson Chamisa has been sucked into the latest swirl of residential stands allocation scam in the capital city, amid revelations that the opposition has been stripping the council of land to finance its subversive intentions and prepare for the 2023 harmonised elections.
Already, over a dozen Harare City Council officials, including MDC-A Mayor Herbert Gomba, human resources and former housing director Matthew Marara, the city’s town planner Samuel Nyabeze and surveyor Munyaradzi Bowa have been arrested on a string of allegations that include criminal abuse of office and corruption.
But their arrest could just be a tip of the iceberg of the rot in MDC Alliance run councils countrywide that have been invaded by the party heavyweights to finance their fancy lives, sponsor subversion as well as set a war chest for the 2023 elections.
At the centre of the scandal are MDC councillors, Mr Chamisa himself, his secretary-general Mr Charlton Hwende, some captured persons in the justice delivery chain and the councillors who use control of the capital city to blatantly disregard the housing waiting list and milk the council of millions of dollars through undervaluing properties.
Sources inside council and in the MDC-A said there was a resolution that was passed by the opposition party last year that they needed to take advantage of controlling the country’s major cities to finance party programmes, including the planned July 31 demonstration.
Information gleaned from various sources revealed that the only two MDC-A councillors, who are not involved in stripping the city of land out of the 45, are Mr Ian Makone (Ward 18) and Ward 4 councillor Mrs Tracey Chagarisa as the party accumulates wealth in what has left the capital with no open space or land banks.
Investigations by The Herald also established that, because of the elaborate planning from the MDC-A hierarchy, a process that could take weeks or months to complete would be done in less than two hours, while council resolutions could be fast-tracked to ensure those who were sold the residential stands, often-times who jumped the housing waiting list, had their residential stands in a matter of hours.
“They agreed that the process of fundraising was both for 2023 and to fund party activities, including destabilising the country at a meeting that was held in December last year,” said an insider familiar with the illegal allocation and parcelling of stands to MDC-A kingpins and apologists.
For instance, councillor for Ward 16 Denford Ngadziore got 36 stands in the Westlea area where home-seekers would be made to pay in US dollars but the intrinsic value would be paid in local currency.
In Strathaven 30 residential stands were sold for US$30 000 and after getting the money, the MDC-A councillors paid ZW$17 000 to council.
Stands 1041-1044 in Morningside measuring 2 000 square metres were sold for US$50 000 and ZW$25 000 was paid to Harare City Council.
Apart from targeting individuals, the MDC-A web of corruption also roped in companies that were either linked to the party directly or indirectly.
“In December 2019 the MDC came up with a list of companies to give land to. Hayes Construction, whose director is Mr Charlton Hwende, was given a site to build flats in Southerton. Another company, AM Machado Construction received land and did not pay. The process of giving these companies land was done in one day and then they backdated a resolution in March this year that the companies would not pay but would choose a social responsibility programme they could support,” another top council official said.
Contacted for comment, Mr Hwende said: “I am not a director of Hayes Construction. I don’t own that company. The only company I am a director of is Twinsday Logistics based in         Namibia.
“I would  not deny it if I had properly applied for land and I am given that land.”
Notwithstanding that they were not on the housing waiting list, the party leaders were also pampered with residential stands.
“Mr Chamisa was allocated a 3 000-square-metre stand number 19740 in Gunhill. There is no record of payment. His brother Starman was allocated a residential stand measuring 2 000 square metres opposite the United States embassy in Westgate in 2019, the stand was only paid for recently, this is despite the fact that he had a stand in Sunningdale allocated on a recreational tennis court. He, however, sold the stand in connivance with Marara.
“Another beneficiary is Mr Murisi Zwizai who got a stand behind Borrowdale Police Station, again without following the council processes,” said a senior council official in the housing department.
Asked for a comment, Mr Chamisa’s spokesperson Nkululeko Sibanda said: “We need to go through what you are saying.”
With councillors playing ball, the MDC-A then compromised persons occupying positions of influence in government institutions such as the police and the judiciary.
Information gleaned by The Herald revealed that top cops, senior judicial officers including those from the Prosecutor General offices and the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) were “bought by residential stands” even though they were not on the waiting list.
“Four ZACC investigators, including a commissioner, were given residential stands in Greendale. The police were also compromised, especially the law and order section, the homicide department and also the commercial crimes unit, those people were bought through the elaborate scheme so that when the situation comes to light it would be handled with friendly forces. The majority of residential stands in wetlands in Westlea were given to police officers and senior officials in the judiciary,” another councillor told this publication.
Besides giving land to councillors, the police and other key officials, the MDC corruption web also included its political activists such as Mr Mfundo Mlilo, who got a 3 000-square-metre stand opposite PetroTrade along the Bulawayo Road and Mr Pedzisai Ruhanya, who got a stand even though he was not on the housing waiting list.
Bet when Kuwadzana and White House, another suburb, that is mainly resided by MDC-A activists was created by the opposition to create an exclusive enclave for subversive purposes. About 256 stands were also created in Westlea and curiously the majority of those allocated stands there are from the police force.
Having captured some police and judicial officers and also investigators from ZACC so as to cover their tracks, the scheming MDC-A also gave residential stands to some of the country’s musicians such as Thomas Mapfumo, Peter Moyo and Brahman Chizvino, popularly known as Baba Harare.
“The musicians were targeted to ensure that they would compose pro-MDC Alliance jingles and subversive songs between now and the elections. Mapfumo got a residential stand in Glen Lorne while Moyo and Chizvino got theirs in Mufakose.”
Today Harare, once the sunshine city, is a pale shadow of its former glorious self — refuse goes uncollected, rivulets of sewage flow in the high density suburbs while the open spaces have all been sold to finance the MDC-A activities.
The city currently has no land bank as most of the land has been parcelled out to MDC-A cronies and to specific people of authority and influence in some government institutions. Herald

Nakamba’s Father Ecstatic As Aston Villa Avoid Relegation

Aston Villa Zimbabwean player Marvellous Nakamba’s father Antony Nakamba has expressed his joy over his son’s team missing the relegation zone yesterday.

Nakamba’s father who was also a footballer during his prime said :

The atmosphere in the house was tense one could touch it.

It was even more emotional when once in a while the cameras would switch to the players on the substitutes’ bench, who included my son. I could only imagine what was going through his mind.

At least we were better off because we were also aware of other results elsewhere that had a bearing on Aston Villa’s fate.

We, however, were not happy with the Bournemouth and Everton scoreline because it meant a goal by West Ham would have seen Villa relegated if they didn’t level matters.
After the final whistle, we knew it was done and everyone was over the moon.

We waited for Marve to call because we knew he was also eager to talk to us just like we were. After a while, he called.

He was just delirious, he spoke to everyone before me and him engaged in a very long father to son talk.

I must confess that at one time those thoughts were with us, even when I spoke to my son, I could sense a feeling of dejection, which told me that perhaps he too was having those fears, but what struck me was that he assured me that they will fight like lions to stay up.

A ray of hope started coming to me with that draw against Everton and they beat Arsenal I knew that Aston Villa will not be relegated, but eish, I am so happy man. I know every other Zimbabwean out there is happy too.

Aston Villa drew with West Ham but their point was enough to lift them out of the relegation zone. Nakamba became a player for Aston Villa a year ago-Chronicle

Herald

In Defence Of the 31st July 2020 Protest

Job Sikhala

By Danmore Sithole | In life they say there is only one constant, that is change. But for Zimbabweans of different generations from Father Zimbabwe, to the born “frees” and through to the Millenniums, the common constant is the emptiness of freedom.

These freedoms have been elusive due to the ZANU PF deceit and misinformation. As the intergenerations are converging for the 31st July 2020 protest, ZANU PF misinformation machinery has shot into overdrive. But lies have short legs.

In real democracies, the 31st of July 2020 protest would be viewed just like the elections in terms of citizen engagement, not as a terrorist act as the government is insinuating. In democracy there is a plethora of activities that the citizens can use to hold their governments to account. These are: elections, referendums, protests, constitutional making process among others. Such activities are formally enshrined in powerful symbols of democracy and rule of law worldwide, such as, the Magna Carta, and the Code of Napoleon. The activities also manifest informally at local level. Therefore it is not due to the benevolence of ZANU PF and its government that sections 58, 59 and 61 of our constitution provides Zimbabweans with the right and responsibility to demand accountability and ensure that government acts in the best interest of the people through protests. Constitutionally guaranteed rights are not tokens, neither are they privileges that are given and withdrawn whenever ZANU PF deems fit.
Contrary to the demonisation of the NGOs by ZANU PF, research has it that civil society through NGOs are instrumental in channelling citizens voice, the 31st July style through engaging with political parties, elected representatives and relevant actors. ZANU PFSs spokesperson Patrick Chinamasa refers to the Civil society as the Evil society, but to the world over, the civil society is respected as a counterweight for accountability. In the last 50 years the world has seen an exponential growth of NGOs. The presence and growth of NGOs in Zimbabwe cannot be attributed to the so called country’s detractors. The ZANU PF narrative peddled by its gurus and their “hired” sympathisers is totally out of sync with worldwide trends.

The War veteran leader Christopher Mutsvangwa refers to the organisers of the 31 July protest as instigators. He vows that the so called triangle of power, comprising of the people, the security establishment and their War veterans are in support of the government as a result, they will not allow the demonstration to take place. As usual he blames sanctions for the state of the economy. This so called triangle of power is exactly what is wrong with Zimbabwe not sanctions. In democracies governments derive their authority and power from the people not from the security establishment or War veterans nor some other pressure group. Zimbabweans know very well that it is the top-down diktat of ZANU PF that has brought Zimbabwe to its knees. Behind the camouflage a lot has happened from the COVID-19 graft scandal of 2020 to the Samson Paweni maize scandal of 1982 ceteris paribus.

Zimbabweans on the 31st July are demanding their freedom to hold the government to account.
ZANUPF youth have joined its government in accusing Hopewell Chin’ono, and Jacob Ngarivhume of inciting the people to protest on the 31st of July 2020. This is a typical case of “If you want to kill your dog accuse him of having rabies”. The issue of inciting people is neither here nor there. Scholars like the Nobel laureate Amartya Sen argue strongly that participating in such an activity as the 31st July one has an intrinsic value. According to the Economist and Philosopher Sen, participating in one’s developmental through open and non-discriminatory processes, having a say without fear and speaking up against perceived injustices and wrongs are fundamental freedoms that are integral to one’s wellbeing and quality of life.

It is the desire to claim these freedoms that will make Zimbabweans take a stand on the 31st of July, not Chin’ono, or Ngarivhume, or Chamisa or any other person. Such freedoms have been elusive for a long time to Zimbabweans as observed by Father Zimbabwe Joshua Nkomo in 1984 when he said “The hardest lesson of my life has come to me late. It is that a nation can win freedom without its people becoming free”.
Scholars like Mansuri and Rao state that participating in the 31st July kind of activity has an instrumental value.

Engaging as citizens in such type of activities is seen as a means to achieving improved public service delivery, better and maintained infrastructure, social cohesion and improved government accountability etc. Zimbabweans know very well that had it not been for the rent seeking activities of state officials Zimbabwe could still be the Jewel of Africa as the late President of Tanzania Julius Nyerere described it at independence in 1980.

Zimbabweans have been talking about how the corruption is haemorrhaging the nation well before sanctions were put in place. In the late 1980s from Harare Thomas Mapfumo sang about the “something for something, nothing for nothing” scenario in his song Corruption. The bribery culture had taken root in our society. From Victoria Falls the group Mandebvu in their song Ndangariro talk of “vano pfurira gumbo mushuga vamwe vachidya nhoko dzezvironda”. This is in the 1980s as social cohesion was increasingly under threat.

From Plumtree in the late 1980s we heard the late Solomon Skuza in his song, Love and Scandals lamenting about corruption and the culture of unaccountability. True to the song the media relied on information leaks to expose the Willowgate scandal in which a number of government officials were implicated including the current Speaker of the House of Parliament Jacob Mudenda. ZANU PF has always had a culture of tightly controlling information so that it can cover-up its corrupt activities. This explains why ZANU PF government is going after Hopewell Chin’ono for exposing the COVID-19 graft scandal among others. All those who are providing information that the public need to hold government to account are being called names Twitter brigades, Stooges, puppets etc. Honestly politics cannot be an art of governing men by deceiving them. No. Information is paramount for accountability.

As we entered the 1990s from Mutare Hosiah Chipanga lamented the amassing of wealth by those in authority creating a society of haves and have- nots in his song Taiona Moto. Even though his audiences would always roar “vapange Chipanga” those in authority have not known how to listen. In his song “I shall not speak” Albert Nyathi all the way from Gwanda spoke volumes about the nepotism and the intolerance. Among other things that he complained about was to be denied “a diet of words”.

They still do not want to see this diet on the Zimbabwean menu in 2020; hence the political “malnutrition” in our country. How else can one possibly explain the recalling of MDC-A MPs by MDC-T. Can one ever expect a robust debate in Parliament or we are heading for a rubber stamping Parliament. In view of this it is important to be cognisance of the fact that political voice is not just about “polite debate”. The prominent UK academic Frances Stewart says the political voice often is channelled in ways that are more contentious, and disruptive. Hence the 31 July protest is such an attractive option.

The late Edwin Hama or Squatter Ambassador as the man who hailed from Gokwe was affectionately known took the music by storm with his “prophetic” songs such as Asila mali and Today’s paper. The Squatter Ambassador highlighted the slippery slope that the country was in economically in the 1990s. The dissemination of information ranks high on the song Todays’ paper. Then the paper was the main source of information for the citizens to make informed decisions about their lives. Today Social media is more popular as a source of information and that explains why the government is going hard on those who tweet information considered unpalatable by the state.

One of coping strategies in a declining economy is to migrate to better managed economies. This is sufficiently captured by Lovemore Majaivana from Bulawayo in his song Sayiwela. Our people have been braving to cross the crocodile infested Limpopo into South Africa and further afield in large numbers. Majaivana also yearns for quality leadership of the departed War veterans. These were War veterans par excellence the one whose “straps” of sandals (or boots to be precise) the Mutsvangwas, Matemadandas and the rest were unworthy to untie.

Therefore the anti-corruption talk has been happening from Mutare to Plumtree, from Victoria Falls to Beitbridge. Nick Mangwana would like to mislead the nation into believing that the anti-corruption fight is only a Harare initiative, far from it.
The “loading” of the 31st of July 2020 protest is proving to be a coalescing of diverse Zimbabwean voices to hold the state accountable and make it responsive to our needs. The challenge that the state faces is it lacks the commitment and capacity to respond to the citizen demands. As a result it is intensifying the intimidating tactics, and grip on captured state institutions. The lack of rule of law is becoming more overt with each day that passes.
Whichever way, Zimbabweans need to be heard and they shall be heard.

Zim Karate Introduces Online Training

ZIMBABWE Karate Union president, Joe Rugwete, says although they have continued with most of the administrative work, and plans for their events lined up for this year, they were considering other options.

Karate is one of the many disciplines which might have to wait a bit longer before they can re-open for competitions.

Some of the regional events, including the African Union Sports Council Region Five Championships, were pushed back to next year.

“With regards to local tournaments, we are continuing with our preparations to make sure that all these tournaments happen.

“What we are not doing are things that we can’t do because of lockdown.
“Our athletes are training at home, individually, and our officials are doing their part as we plan for resumption.

“We might not be able to do all our events this year. What we are doing is we are dealing with the lost opportunity.

“Where we were supposed to have provincials, and national events, we are not writing them off. They will be held over a period when it’s possible.

“Certain events will be rolled over to next year, so we might have a busy year in 2021.’’

Rugwete said they were going to have a busy schedule when they resume.

“We are saying we can have our events in the next possible period,’’ said Rugwete.

“Karate has to continue, we have to continue to develop our athletes with our focus on younger athletes.

“So, it will be busier when we resume.
“What we have done, regularly, is to speak with our affiliates, that is the styles, to ask what they are doing.

“They are doing online training, sending videos and interacting with the athletes.”

The ZKU president said their first event, in the event they re-open, will be the Japanese tournament, which is an annual event-The Herald

MDC Alliance Member Brutally Killed For Challenging Partisan Distribution Of Food

MDC Alliance Youth, Mazwi Ndlovu, son to former MDC Bulilima East Ward 2 Councillor Msongelwa Ndlovu was viciously attacked and killed in cold murder by a member of the ZRP neighborhood watch for questioning partisan food distribution by a ZANU PF Councillor.

Ndlovu was killed over the weekend by a ZRP neighborhood watch, Twoboy Moyo after questioning the a known ZANU PF member, one Bhebhe over partisan food distribution from donor aid.

Matabeleland South is one of the drought prone areas and this year is not an exception hence people depend much on food relief usually donated by Non Governmental Organizations.

Sadly over the years ZANU PF abuses its influence in the province to deny opposition supporters equal access to food aid.

Under the government of MDC Alliance, equal access to food for all remains our priority.

Meanwhile, the MDC Alliance Youth Assembly will deploy peace monitors to ensure equal access to donor aid especially during this trying time when the majority are facing starvation.

US$6.5 mln Blown On VIP Boob

The Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Transport and Infrastructural Development has condemned the state of Vehicle Inspection Department (VID) depots countrywide and said it will recommend an investigation of a company that was contracted to upgrade the facilities.

Government reportedly contracted a local company Badon Enterprises and paid it US$6.5 million to upgrade hill-start ramps and tar the surface around the country’s depots.

The Committee noted that no work had been done at some of the depots during a countrywide tour of projects funded by Zimbabwe National Road Administration (Zinara) last week.

In an interview in Victoria Falls on Saturday, Vungu MP Cde Omega Sibanda who is a member of the Portfolio Committee said the general state of some VID depots is poor.

“We are very worried about VID depots where a company called Badon Enterprises was given a job but didn’t do it.

“The company was paid a lot of money, about $6.5 million to do work countrywide and we are worried about it.

“We went to the Victoria Falls depot, there is no tarred surface inside and the hill-start ramp is not okay.

“The depot is poorly done and we need to recommend to the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development that it be redone.

“As we go forward as a committee, we are going to make sure that a proper report is prepared and sent to Parliament because it is worrying that no job was done especially at VID Victoria Falls.

“The general state is poor because of poor workmanship,” said Cde Sibanda.

VID depots conduct driver training and weighbridge facilities for cargo trucks among other duties.

Such derelict facilities at VID depots could open way for unroadworthy vehicles and incompetent drivers flooding the country’s roads as the department will be incapacitated to provide proper testing.

In Victoria Falls, learner drivers do hill-start on Courtney Selous Road behind Rainbow Hotel, which also leaves room for corruption.

The committee tour which ended on Sunday, was aimed at assessing state of projects funded by Zinara countrywide.

In Victoria Falls the committee commended the Municipality for resealing a total of 13.3km road network using funds received from Zinara.

The committee also visited Kazungula Bridge across Zambezi River to appreciate construction work on the project which is a joint venture between Botswana and Zambia.

Zimbabwe joined the project soon after the coming in of the Second Republic.

The bridge, now at 98 percent complete, is expected to ease trade by significantly reducing time in transit across borders and expand access through most land-linked Sadc member states.

Cde Sibanda said the Portfolio Committee will engage the Ministry of Transport on the project.

Zinara board chair Engineer Michael Madanha said most weighbridges and VID depots need to be reworked on.

“We visited VID depots to see weighbridges and MPs were concerned particularly with VID depots which are not yet complete for various reasons. Some are old and need re-servicing and proper pavements.

“As an oversight committee they wanted to know how the money was used and all that was explained to them,” said Eng Madanha.

He said Zinara will mobilise funding to upgrade VID depots. -Chronicle

Godfather Of Law Entangled In ZESA Corruption

The Senior lawyer who is praised as Zimbabwe’s GodFather of law, Simplisius Julius Chihambakwe has appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts facing allegations of failing to declare his interests to the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) where he was a board member when his law firm started collecting money owed to the authority.

-Herald

“There Is No Government In Zimbabwe”

Farai Dziva|Dread Reckless, whose music became popular at the late MDC president Morgan Tsvangirai’s rallies across the country, has endorsed the July 31 protests.

Dread Reckless of the Nharembozha fame described Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration as a group of “dissidents calling themselves government.”

Dread Reckless was a permanent and prominent feature at Tsvangirai’s rallies across the country.

Read statement below:

I don’t support at all, people who want to remove the constitutionally elected government by force on the 31st of July.

l warn them to stop it now and instead focus on fighting to remove the dissidents led by Emerson Dambudzo Mnangangwa- who call them a government.

I don’t know the government Job Sikhala and team are allegedly trying to remove because according to my understanding the government was already removed in November 2017 and ordinary citizens are rightfully fighting to take over. So which government are we talking about here?

After putting the legitimate government in power, that is when we will jealously guard it against the so called terrorists.

As for now, everyone has the right to fight to remove whoever landed himself in the office of the President to loot our God-given resources.

Viva 31 July Viva!

FACT CHECK: US Doctors Praising Trump’s Chloroquine Claim | WHAT’S THE TRUTH?

A highly popular live programme was held in Washington last night which involved several doctors who claim that chloroquine is the cure for covid-19. We have done some fact checking and found out that the publication running these programs is a far-right broadsheet that is aligned to the US President Donald Trump. Breitbart News Network is an American far-right syndicated news, opinion and commentary website founded in mid-2007 by American conservative commentator Andrew Breitbart, who conceived it as “the Huffington Post of the right,” a descriptive reads.

There’s been widespread interest in hydroxychloroquine as both a preventative measure and for treating patients with coronavirus.

President Trump has used it as a preventative measure, and President Bolsonaro of Brazil has also taken it.

But despite some early studies raising hopes, one subsequent larger scale trial has shown it’s not effective as a treatment.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has halted its trials, saying that the drug doesn’t reduce death rates in patients with coronavirus.

What is hydroxychloroquine for?

Hydroxychloroquine has long been on used to treat malaria as well as other conditions such as lupus and arthritis.

It’s used to reduce fever and inflammation, and the hope has been that it can also inhibit the virus that causes Covid-19.

Some early studies showed that it may be able to shorten the duration of symptoms experienced by coronavirus patients, while others indicated it had no positive effect at all.

One of the world’s largest studies – the Recovery trial run by Oxford University – has involved 11,000 patients with coronavirus in hospitals across the UK and included testing hydroxychloroquine’s effectiveness against the disease, along with other potential treatments.

It concluded that “there is no beneficial effect of hydroxychloroquine in patients hospitalised with Covid-19” and the drug has now been pulled from the trial.

There’s been some hope that hydroxychloroquine could be effective if used early on when a person gets the virus, before there’s a need for them to be hospitalised.

However, there’s no clear evidence on this and the jury is very much out as to its effectiveness in the early stages of infection.

There are in fact overall more than 200 trials currently underway around the world on its impact either as a prophylactic or treatment for Covid-19.

Why have the drugs become so controversial?

Promotion by leading political figures such as President Trump has led to both hydroxychloroquine, and the related drug chloroquine, becoming the subject of widespread speculation online about their potential benefits and harmful effects.

This has led to high demand for the drugs and global supply shortages.

There’s also been controversy within the scientific community.

Trials around the world were temporarily derailed when a study published in The Lancet claimed the drug increased fatalities and heart problems in some patients.

The results prompted the World Health Organization (WHO) and others to halt trials over safety concerns.

However, the Lancet subsequently retracted the study when it was found to have serious shortcomings and the WHO resumed its trials.

Other studies have looked at using the drugs as a preventative measure against Covid-19.

The Mahidol Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit (MORU) is conducting mass clinical trials and has enrolled 40,000 frontline workers in Europe, Africa, Asia and South America, giving participants either chloroquine, hydroxychloroquine or a placebo.

Professor Sir Nick White, who’s leading the trial, said: “Most experts agree there is a much better chance of benefit in prevention than treatment.”

This study is able to resume after being placed on hold following the fallout from The Lancet’s retracted study.

There haven’t yet been results from this or other ongoing randomised studies on the drugs as a preventative treatment.

What are the side-effects of hydroxychloroquine?

A number of countries have authorised the hospital use of hydroxychloroquine or its use in clinical studies under the supervision of healthcare professionals.

In March the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted “emergency use” authorisation for these drugs in the treatment of Covid-19 for a limited number of hospitalised cases.

But the FDA subsequently issued a warning about the risk of the drugs causing serious heart rhythm problems in coronavirus patients and cautioned against using them outside of a hospital setting or clinical trial.

And in June, the FDA withdrew the drug. , saying clinical trials had shown it was no longer reasonable to believe it would produce an antiviral effect.

There have also been reports of people poisoning themselves taking the drugs without medical supervision.

The WHO has responded by advising people not to self-medicate and “has cautioned against physicians and medical associations recommending or administering these unproven treatments.”

France had authorised hospitals to prescribe the drugs for patients with Covid-19 but later reversed that decision after the country’s medical watchdog warned of possible side effects.

Why have these drugs gained such prominence?

Following the president’s first comments, there was a sharp increase reported in prescriptions in the US for both hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine.

Mr Trump revealed in May that he’d been taking hydroxychloroquine as a preventative measure against Covid-19, but later said he’d stopped.

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro is another champion of the drug.

He recently said he’d taken it – along with the antibiotic azithromycin – when he became infected with coronavirus.

“We know that there is no scientific evidence, but it has worked with me,” he claimed. SOURCE: BBC

More Beekeepers To Join July 31 Demo?

Farai Dziva|A specialist in beekeeping, Nyasha William Gwazemba, has vowed to join the July 31 protests.

In an interview with ZimEye.com, Gwazemba said he would provide 800 000 bees to “support the democratic process.”

Bees will ensure that people are not assaulted by soldiers and police details during the protests, according to Gwazemba.

This comes after soldiers and police officers were stung by bees in Kuwadzana on Sunday.

Read narrative below:

There came a lorry full of police details and soldiers in Kuwadzana 4 Harare so everyone ran away.

Some of the soldiers were in civilian clothes and they were just arresting everyone.

In the past you would just notice that this person who has arrested me is a soldier and a police officer and that you have been arrested and are being taken to the police truck. But today, they were just arresting everyone …so when they arrived at Kuwadzana 4 shops people ran away leaving their groceries, the ones that they were selling including their firewood.

So there were bees that came from nowhere, they just flew and went underneath a cart. The cart was like the ones that are used by vendors in towns when they are selling their wares.

No one knows what time these bees made this cart their haven but it should be today because this cart was at home last night and was taken to the shops this morning for business.

So when people ran away after seeing that the soldiers in plain clothes were arresting people and taking them to their truck, they left their wares.

So these soldiers started confiscating people’s groceries and that is when they saw the cart and they started loading the confiscated goods and firewood into that cart.

Trouble started when they started to push the cart. The bees left their haven ,underneath the cart and started biting them. They were bitten such that they left the cart and started running away.

The soldiers were bitten and they ran back to their truck and they were wailing while the swarm of bees continued biting them.

It was a swarm of bees and when these soldiers who were fleeing the bees got to their truck, the bees continued biting them and those who were inside the trucks were not spared either.

The driver of the truck sped off but this did not help, the bees continued biting them.I doubt these bees are a natural species.

They must be someone’s bees. In Kuwadzana 4 today, we witnessed a rare incident.

The soldiers were wailing and crying. Please do not take people’s property. This happened around 12pm in Kuwadzana 4, Harare.

The firewood pieces that they wanted to take belong to one granny whom we call gogo Ndunge.

“Prophet” Claims RBZ Is Haunted By Goblins, Demands US $100k To Remove Them

By Isaac Makomichi, Calvary Prayer Group

People attacked Minister Mthuli Ncube when he spoke of demons that are haunting the economy but the truth is that he was not lying.

As I was in the spirit I saw three goblins in the RBZ.The goblins are meant to steal money so that their masters will become rich and they are also sabotaging the economy of this nation.

If we don’t remove three goblins honestly president Mnangagwa’s efforts to revive the economy will be in vain.

The Finance Minister was correct when he spoke about demons and he must take action.

He must come to me with US$100k (payment) so that I can do the job next week.

I will be in the prayer room seeking revelation on how to remove that dangerous demon.

Don’t blame Mnangagwa’s government for the state of the the economy because there are dangerous demons in the RBZ and I’m the only person who can remove them.

Central Figure In Defence Ministry’s US$20mil Fraud Case Dies

The central figure in a fraud case involving more than US$20 million allegedly siphoned from Zimbabwe’s ministry of defence died a day before he was due in court.

Peter Muchakazi, 56, an army procurement officer, according to sources, died just a few hours after complaining of chest pains on Sunday night.

Mark Grey Marongwe, the ministry of defence’s secretary confirmed Muchakazi’s death.

“The family of the deceased will be in a better position to comment about how he died,” he said.

Muchakazi was suspected to be the ringleader of a well-orchestrated con in which fake invoices were raised for services allegedly rendered to the ministry. The fraud rap faced by Muchakazi, his co-accused Jonathan Tandangu, Dhuvai Muzenda and Maria Fungisai Chiurira in December last year drew the attention of the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) as some army commanders were also investigated for being part of the scam.

South Africa’s Sunday Times newspaper, on January 12 this year, reported that the matter involving Muchakazi was the reason behind Danison Muvandi, the director of finance and human resources, fleeing the country. His whereabouts remain unknown.

The looting at the ministry was unearthed at a time when soldiers in the barracks had to do with only one meal a day.

Hospital Still “Urging For Mandatory COVID-19 Testing” – We Must Hold Zanu PF To Account For This

By Nomusa Garikai- Detail matter! Zanu PF has committed murder, literally and metaphorically, again and again but has got away with it time and time again because the Zimbabwean people have either failed to notice, which has happened all too often, or did not have the courage and foresight to hold the regime to account.

“For the period 9 June 2020 when the centre opened up to 25 July 2020, 60 Covid-19 positive patients have been admitted,” authorities at Parirenyatwa Hospital have said, according to a New Zimbabwe report.

“For the period under review, 70 staff members have tested positive for Covid-19, of which 64 are from non-Covid-19 areas while 6 work directly in the Covid Centre.”

Authorities have been “urging for the mandatory testing of all patients for the dreaded disease before admission into the government health facility.”

The need to test all patients, diseased and frontline workers of corona virus infection is central in the fight to contain the virus. “Test, trace and track!” the World Health Organisation has advised again and again and again ever since the declaration of covid-19 as a pandemic. It therefore beggars belief that even this late in the covid-19 storm even Zimbabwe’s principal referral hospitals are not carrying out even the most basic screening tests.

Health professionals are having to urge the powers that be to make testing mandatory! Meanwhile 64 health care workers  assigned to non-covid-19 areas have test positive of the dread virus (God only knows how many patients in the non-covid-19 area have the virus too); making a mockery of segregation.

“We have recorded 8 deaths out of 60 patents who were admitted in the red zone,” continues the Hospital statement.

“Of the bodies that were brought in dead, 13 tested positive for Covid-19.”

According to the Ministry of Health and Child Care Zimbabwe has had a total of 34 corona virus deaths and yet Parirenyatwa Hospital alone has had 21 covid-19 deaths. There is no doubt that the officials are under reporting the corona virus cases and deaths!

There is heavy human traffic between Zimbabwe and South Africa and hence it is no surprise that most of the reported covid-19 cases in Zimbabwe are returnees from SA. And so the real, as contrast to the contrived official, number of covid-19 cases in Zimbabwe will ¼ of that of SA (given Zimbabwe’s population is ¼ that of SA).

According to the John Hopkins report SA has 445 433 confirmed cases and 6 769 death. Zimbabwe real figure should be 111 000 cases and 1 600 deaths compared to the contrived official figure of 2 512 cases and 34 deaths.

There is no doubt that by under reporting the corona virus cases many, many people will get the virus and many will die because they did not know the prevalence of the virus and so never took any precaution. And, worst of all, they were deliberately kept in the dark because the powers that be did not test, trace and track as aggressively as they should have done and has under reported the cases.

Of course, this Zanu PF government has deliberately under reported the seriousness of the covid-19 virus in Zimbabwe to earn itself brownie points as having contained the virus. The real covid-19 figures which are emerging, there must be a full judiciary inquiry to establish the full story, shows that blundering attempt to hide the truth has only helped the corona virus spread.

The number of corona virus cases and deaths have been steadily rising these last three weeks, the virus storm has just broken and the worst is yet to come. Parirenyatwa Hospital management’s demand for mandatory testing still makes a lot of sense, careful screening is required now more than ever before.

It is for us, the people, to hold this Zanu PF regime to account for failing to make covid-19 testing, tracing and tracking mandatory and to demand that testing is mandatory from now on. How well or badly Zimbabwe performs throughout these difficult covid-19 times will depend on how well we, the people, respond to the challenge of good governance and to paying attention to detail of what is happening.

Companies And Institutions Closing Down Rapid Due To Increasing Numbers Of Covid-19 Cases

ok shops shut down

More Zimbabwean companies and institutions on Monday reported cases of Covid-19 infections which have seen them temporarily halting operations in a development that is expected to take a heavy toll on the economy.

Observers say the jump mainly point to a failure by the public to follow laid down regulations concerning hygiene, wearing of masks and social distancing, prompting a wildfire spread of local infections of
the disease.

As of July 26, Zimbabwe had recorded 2 512 confirmed cases of the disease which has so far killed 34 people in the country.

Local transmission accounts for 1 486 of the infections while 1 026 were imported.

On Monday, pension fund, the National Social Security Authority (NSSA), the Infrastructure Development Bank of Zimbabwe (NSSA), Pick ’n Pay, Avenues Clinic and the Parliament of Zimbabwe joined the growing list of institutions that have recorded positive cases of
Covid-19.

“The results so far have revealed six positive samples amongst our
staff members,” the IBDZ said, adding it would close its office in Harare for three days to allow for disinfection.

NSSA said on employee had tested positive forcing, the closure of its Harare head office.

Two Parliamentarians tested positive, Speaker of the National Assembly
Jacob Mudenda said, while at the Avenues Clinic, at least eight staff members were said to have been infected.

A long list of firms including Econet, retailer OK Zimbabwe, Federal
Express, medical aid societies Cimas and PSMAS have already closed part of their operations after employees were affected.

Here is a list of companies and institutions that have temporarily halted operations since the lockdowns restrictions were eased  by the government to allow workers to go back to work about 8 weeks ago, after members of their stuff tested positive for COVID-19:

  1. National Social Security Authority (NSSA),
  2. Infrastructure Development Bank of Zimbabwe (IDBZ),
  3. Pick’n Pay,
  4. Avenues Clinic and
  5. The Parliament of Zimbabwe
  6. Econet,
  7. OK Zimbabwe Five Avenue and Mbuya Nehanda
  8. Bon Marche Mt Pleasant
  9. Federal Express, medical aid societies
  10. Cimas and
  11. PSMAS.
  12. StarAfrica Corporation

Government has tightened lockdown regulations to curtail unnecessary
citizens’ movement to reduce the spread of the disease but cases continue to spike owing largely to disregard of health regulations that have been put in place.

116 000 People Arrested For Breaking Lockdown Measures

Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi

Police have arrested 116 047 people from March to date countrywide for violating national lockdown regulations, as the number of those that have escaped from isolation centres has also risen to 285.

On Saturday alone, police arrested 1 362 people countrywide for various offences related to contravening the regulations.

Most of them were arrested for unnecessary movement, failure to wear masks and offences related to the Liquor Act and the Road Traffic Act.

In a statement on Sunday, national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said Harare continued to have the highest numbers of arrests, with 24 925, followed by Manicaland with 22 028, while Bulawayo has 16 009 people arrested.

Those arrested for illegal crossing and smuggling are now 612.

By last week, police had arrested 4 382 motorists, especially errant kombi and pirate taxis operators for operating public transport without exemption.

Last Tuesday, a night curfew from 6pm to 6am for all but essential services and a retreat to 8am to 3pm working hours for exempted businesses was imposed, along with criminalisation of deliberate or reckless transmission of Covid-19.

Announcing the new measures, President Mnangagwa stressed enforcement of other present lockdown rules.

Non-working people should stay at home except for essential movement to buy food, find water or for medical reasons; masks had to be worn outside of homes; everyone screened entering public places and buildings; social distancing observed; public transport passengers screened and sanitised on boarding with buses disinfected between round trips; and intercity movement remains banned.

Businesses already formally exempted and allowed to operate, including food markets, were only affected by the shortening of the working hours by 90 minutes in the afternoons.

The curfew and other changes were the result of the rapid increase in the number of total infections, especially those within Zimbabwean communities, seen recently with local cases now greater than those among returning residents.

RESPONSE ON ALLEGATIONS OF FAILURE TO ADMIT MR NORMAN MATARUKA

We have taken note of a widely circulating social media article alleging that doctors discouraged Mr Mataruka from getting admitted at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals because the hospital was poorly equipped. Contrary to the article, the facts of the matter are as follows:

  • Mr Norman Mataruka was referred to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals COVID-19 Centre on the night of 26 July 2020.
  • The patient was admitted into our COVID-19 Centre around 2300hrs on 26 July 2020.
  • Our doctors and nurses did their best to resuscitate and stabilize the patient but unfortunately he succumbed to his illness around 0700hrs today, the 27th of July 2020.

We also wish to inform the public that amongst other equipment , our COVID-19 Centre has 7 ventilators and a steady supply of oxygen. We appeal to the general public to desist from circulating unverified information as this exacerbates staff demotivation and also reduces public confidence in public hospital services.

Chinamasa Tells Zanu Pf Cadres To Defend Peace On July 31

By A Correspondent- At a press conference in Harare today, the ruling party spokesperson former cabinet minister Patrick Chinamasa rallied his party members and urged them to get ready to defend their sovereignty, peace, property and people.

Speaking at the press conference at the Zanu PF headquarters, Chinamasa said, in case law enforcement officers were not close by, Zanu PF members must get ready to fight back should the protestors who he called all sorts of names including hooligans and mercenaries go ahead and protest on 31 July.

Said the former Cyber Security Minister:

Zanu PF calls upon our supporters, cadres and sympathisers, wherever you are, to remain alert and ready to defend yourselves, defend our people, their property and most importantly defend peace in your communities against these malcontents, these hired hooligans and hoodlums who rejoice at burning properties and looting.

They must know that when they are being attacked, law enforcement agents might not be near. In those circumstances, their first line of defence is themselves and their families. They have a legal and constitutional right to defend themselves. Don’t ask for permission from anybody, it’s your constitutional and legal right.

Don’t be intimidated by hooligans and mercenaries. Don’t be like sitting ducks as you were in August 2018, don’t be sitting ducks as you were in January 2019, phoning us (to ask what you should do). No, this time no. Use any means at your disposal to defend yourselves.

Organisers of the protests have emphasised over and over again that the protests will be peaceful, but the government and the ruling party have remained adamant that the protests will be violent to the point of calling them anarchy and arresting those who are calling for them like Jacob Ngarivhume and Hopewell Chin’ono on charges of inciting public violence.

Zanu PF Threatens US Ambassador

Emmerson Mnangagwa at ZANU PF Conference

The ruling Zanu PF party has threatened to expel the United States ambassador to Harare, Brian Nichols in a new low in diplomatic relations between Harare and Washington.

Addressing journalists at the party headquarters in Harare, acting spokesperson, Patrick Chinamasa said the diplomat should be ashamed of himself.

“I want to warn them (foreign diplomats) that it is high time to know that Zimbabwe is a sovereign Republic and we are a full sovereign state under the Montevideo Convention. The US ambassador whom I am told is African-American, must be totally ashamed of himself.

“What has the United States has to offer in terms of values and human rights observance when his own African American people are treated like rats in full view of world media and he remains an Uncle Tom used to propagate values which by themselves they do not practice on their own people,” said Chinamasa

Without remorse Chinamasa warned Ambassador Nichols that should he continue to undermining the country’s laws Zanu PF will not hesitate to expel him.

“He continues to engage in acts of undermining this Republic and if he does so, if he continues engaging in acts of undermining the Republic mobilizing and funding disturbances coordinating violence and training insurgency our leadership will not hesitate to give him his marching orders.

“Diplomats should not behave like thugs and Brian Nichols is a thug. We remind Nichols that he is not a super Diplomat in this country. There are several Diplomats seconded to this republic from African Union countries and the world over. They have never masqueraded and pretended to be our prefects as Mr Nichols is doing. We have nothing to learn from the United States or from countries which impose sanctions” he said

The threats come at a time Government has also issued statements accusing the American embassy of funding the planned July 31 protests.

After Heavily Challenging Civil Society Challenge On Holding Public Hearings During Covid-19 Lockdown, Parly Shuts Down After 2 MPs Test Positive.

Jacob Mudenda

Parliament has got it the hard way after the High Court ruled against non governmental organisations that sort to block holding of public hearings during the Covid-19 lockdown time.

Two urgent chamber applications were filed by two advocacy groups seeking to stop parliament from conducting public hearings in Zimbabwe on some proposed amendments of the constitution when the country is under a coronavirus COVID-19 lockdown but Parliament challenged the move.

In an urgent chamber application filed on Thursday 11 June 2020 by Job Sibanda of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), Habakkuk Trust represented by its Chief Executive Officer Dumisani Nkomo, argued that Zimbabwe is currently facing a health pandemic which had necessitated the imposition of a national lockdown, where public gatherings were virtually banned to try and curb the spread of coronavirus.

Habakkuk Trust argued that by conducting public hearings to discuss some proposed amendments to the Constitution, Parliament, Chokuda and Ziyambi were putting the health of the public at risk at a time of the coronavirus pandemic.

Two Members of Parliament, a journalist and a driver have since tested positive for Covid-19, while going on a public consultations round.

The issue has prompting Speaker of the National Assembly Jacob Mudenda to immediately suspend Parliamentary activities.

The officials from the Transport committee were part of a team that had been on field visits around the country when two MPs developed symptoms, Mudenda said.

“Two members were showing some signs of infection, all members were tested and the two members tested positive, plus our driver of the bus and the reporter who had accompanied them,” Mudenda said.

“Other committees that were supposed to travel to the Eastern borders, their trip had to be cancelled,” he added.

The business of Parliament, including sittings of both Houses, committee workshops, public hearings and site visits, have been suspended with immediate effect.

“Consequently, tomorrow’s sitting for the National Assembly will be done with very limited numbers for the sole purpose of adjourning to a future date,” Parliament said in a statement.

“This will allow for deep cleaning and disinfection of the Parliament Building and contact tracing and testing of those who came into contact with the affected Members of Parliament.”

Meanwhile, MPs and officials who were part of the affected team are now in self-quarantine in line with ministry of Health guidelines.

Gabriel Nyoni To Return To Bosso?

Maritzburg United winger Gabriel Nyoni has posted what some might interpret as a hint that he is set to return to Bulawayo giants Highlanders.

The 27-year-old left Bosso for Harare giants CAPS United last year, before he was snapped by the Team of Choice after an impressive short stint at the Green Machine.

His debut season at the Pietermaritzburg side has been hampered by injuries, though in the matches he has played, he has fared well, with his  man-of-the-match performance against Chippa United being his standout game in the South African top flight.

Recently, South African media reported that Maritzburg are planning to release the speed merchant at the end of the current campaign.

Today, he posted a picture on Facebook celebrating a goal during his Bosso days and captioned it “Home”, a move which might imply that he is headed for a return to the club he captained and was also a darling of the fans- Soccer 24

Shock As “Ndini Ndamubata” Kills Opposition Member Over Food Distribution Dispute

NATIONAL, BUSINESS, BREAKING

Farai Dziva|An MDC Alliance member was brutally killed by a Zanu PF activist for challenging the partisan distribution of food aid in Bulilima.

According to the MDC Alliance, the party member was killed by a Neighbourhood Watch Committee officer aligned to Zanu PF

See full statement below :

27-07-2020

MDC Alliance Youth, Mazwi Ndlovu, son to former MDC Bulilima East Ward 2 Councillor Msongelwa Ndlovu was viciously attacked and killed in cold murder by a member of the ZRP neighborhood watch for questioning partisan food distribution by a ZANU PF Councillor.

Ndlovu was killed over the weekend by a ZRP neighborhood watch, Twoboy Moyo after confronting a known ZANU PF member, one Bhebhe over partisan food distribution.

Why Zimbabwean Players Are Making It In SA Premier League

Farai Dziva|SuperSport United mentor Kaitano Tembo says “hunger and determination” has helped several Zimbabwean players in the South African Premier Soccer League to achieve more success than their other foreign counterparts.

Zimbabwe makes up the biggest foreign quota in the top-flight with twelve of the sixteen PSL clubs currently have at least one in their books.

And a couple of them have managed to command first-team jerseys at their clubs.

“I think, sometimes when you get into a foreign land, you have to bring something different. I think Zimbabwean players bring something different in terms of hunger and determination to do well,” Tembo told Goal.com.

“I think that has been the difference you know all these years it has all been about the hunger and desire to succeed and finding this league as a stepping stone to get into bigger things.”

The likes of Wilfred Mugeyi, Benjani Mwaruwari, Tinashe Nengomasha and Khama Billiat have all won the PSL Player of the Season while others such as Gilbert Mushangazhike and Knowledge Musona have picked the PSL top goalscorers award.

“If you can talk about Benjani who went to play in Europe, as well as Knowledge Musona. I can count a lot of them, and it has all been about that; the hunger and desire to succeed and that is one thing we have brought into the PSL,” Tembo added.

However, not all Zimbabweans have made it to the top in South Africa as players like Prince Dube, Thomas Chideu, Dominic Chungwa, Clive Augusto, Gabriel Nyoni, Junior Zindoga and Rodwell Chinyengetere have found it difficult to adjust in the PSL.

Aston Villa “Miraculously” Avoid Relegation

Aston Villa will be in the English Premier League in the 2020/21 season following the completion of a terrific survival mission.

Threee weeks ago, Dean Smith’s men looked down and out but remarkably collected 7 out of a possible 9 points against Crystal Palace, Everton and Arsenal to sneak out of the relegation zone with one game left to play.

They needed to win against West Ham at the London Stadium and hope that Watford lose to Arsenal at the Emirates and for Bournemouth to also lose or draw against Everton at Goodison Park.

Their 1-1 draw at West Ham and Watford’s 2-3 loss to Arsenal guaranteed Villa safety-Soccer 24

COVID-19: Protection Measures For Everyone

Stay aware of the latest information on the COVID-19 outbreak, available on the WHO website and through your national and local public health authority. Many countries around the world have seen cases of COVID-19 and several have seen outbreaks.

The situation is unpredictable so check regularly for the latest news.

You can reduce your chances of being infected or spreading COVID-19 by taking some simple precautions:

Regularly and thoroughly clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water.

Why?Washing your hands with soap and water or using alcohol-based hand rub kills viruses that may be on your hands.

Maintain at least 1 metre (3 feet) distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing.

Why? When someone coughs or sneezes they spray small liquid droplets from their nose or mouth which may contain virus. If you are too close, you can breathe in the droplets, including the COVID-19 virus if the person coughing has the disease.

Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth

Why? Hands touch many surfaces and can pick up viruses. Once contaminated, hands can transfer the virus to your eyes, nose or mouth. From there, the virus can enter your body and can make you sick.

Make sure you, and the people around you, follow good respiratory hygiene. This means covering your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze. Then dispose of the used tissue immediately.

Why? Droplets spread virus. By following good respiratory hygiene you protect the people around you from viruses such as cold, flu and COVID-19.

Stay home if you feel unwell. If you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical attention and call in advance. Follow the directions of your local health authority.

Why? National and local authorities will have the most up to date information on the situation in your area. Calling in advance will allow your health care provider to quickly direct you to the right health facility. This will also protect you and help prevent spread of viruses and other infections.

Keep up to date on the latest COVID-19 hotspots (cities or local areas where COVID-19 is spreading widely). If possible, avoid traveling to places – especially if you are an older person or have diabetes, heart or lung disease.

Why? You have a higher chance of catching COVID-19 in one of these areas.

The Woman Behind Eddies Pfugari Empire Unmasked

By A Correspondent- In the early 1960s Mildred Nhliziyo a school teacher met Edward Nyanyiwa at a church function.

This charismatic, hardworking and humble man, nicknamed ‘Mujubeki’ because he had lived in Joburg for several years, won her over with his love and respect for God.

In 1964 Edward married Mildred and together with his son Terrance from a previous relationship set out on their journey of Christian marriage and fellowship.

Ten years later, Edward Nyanyiwa was away working in South West Africa (Namibia) operating machinery in construction.

Mildred Nyanyiwa was on maternity leave from her teaching post. Her favourite subject was domestic science so she relied on her skills and love of cooking to earn an income.

TALK OF THE TOWN

She started selling tea and sadza to labourers. She was living up to her nickname ‘Pfugari’.

The word Pfugari is known to mean ‘we will feed you’. It defines ‘communal eating’ and some say it’s literal translation means ‘with this pot we will feed you till you are full’.

Mildred’s fame spread because of how she cooked and in 1974 she was interviewed by a local radio station.

The journalist who interviewed her reportedly confessed that Mildred was the talk of the town and said ‘tanzwa nemukurumbira kuti panomudzimai atanga business pano.’

Her daughter, Itai, told ZimEye that this interview was overheard by a colleague of Mr Edward Nyanyiwa’s who was on holiday from South West Africa.

On returning to work, he informed everyone there that ‘Uyu anonyebera kuti ane nhamo asi ndakanzwa mukadzi wake paradio. Ane business raanaro paMachipisa’.

Edward Nyanyiwa immediately took leave and came home and persuaded Mildred not to return to teaching but instead pursue the business as it was lucrative.

He however returned to work and left his wife operating her business. By the end of 1974, the business had grown to such an extent that Nyanyiwa saw the need to give up his job and join his wife full time, marking the couple’s turning point.

HARDWORK

In 1980 Edward and Mildred Nyanyiwa registered their company as Eddies Pfugari Private Limited- Eddies a shortened version of Edward’s name and Pfugari his wife’s nickname.

In fact, the pfugari pots have been the logo representing the Pfugari business and were in honour of Mildred Nyanyiwa.

The business was built on takeaways and expanded into butcheries and then properties.

Nyanyiwa and his family understood that the name Pfugari represented Mildred’s interests in any business venture.

Husband and wife had equal shares and responsibilities in the family business. Mildred Nyanyiwa worked day and night with her husband for over 25 years.

A devoted and loyal wife, a business partner, a loving mother but above all, a God-fearing woman, Mildred put her trust in her husband the man with whom she had set out on the journey of Christian marriage in 1964.

The couple’s first business, a café in the backyards of Harare’s Highfield high density suburb started off modest before they expanded and got space in the central business district.

Together with her husband, the couple would cook their food in black Kango pots mainly used in households and sell it throughout the day before counting their daily returns at 11pm.

They aimed bigger and always did things differently as the duo had a vision to see their empire flourish and grow.

SUCCESS

The Pfugaris business was an instant success and they moved into the CBD where they opened their first restaurant at Charge Office in 1978.

Business had expanded, assets amounting to millions of USD had been accumulated; everything they had originated from the Eddies Pfugari money.

The parent company, and other companies they later formed or bought were operating as ‘one economic unit’.

WHAT NEXT AFTER THE TRAGEDY?

Tragedy struck in 2005 with the death of Mrs Mildred Nyanyiwa. She died having built the business with her husband, equal partners with equal number of shares in their business.

The year is 2016 and what has this year have to do with Mildred Nyanyiwa who is long dead.

Yes, she is dead but on the 10th January 2016, Mr Stern Mufara was appointed as executor dative to the estate of the late Mrs Mildred T. Nyanyiwa DR 2895/15. The beneficiaries of this estate are Mr Stephen Nyanyiwa, Mrs Naume Makumbe, Miss Henrietta Nyanyiwa and Mrs Itai Collier.

Mr Edward Nyanyiwa later passed on in February 2019 with Mr Clever Mandizvidza appointed executor dative to the late Edward Nyanyiwa’s estate DR 471/19.

Beneficiaries of this estate are the two customary wives he married after the death of Mildred; Hazel Nyanyiwa and Nancy Nyanyiwa (niece to his first wife, Mildred) and his 5 children: Edward Nyanyiwa (Jnr), Stephen Nyanyiwa, Naume Makumbe, Henrietta Nyanyiwa and Itai Collier.

Unfortunately, Terrance had died in 1997.

Mildred’s beneficiaries await the distribution of her estate which is entwined with that of her husband.

Edrward and Mildred Pfugari had set out on their journey 50/50. Will their wishes be fulfilled and will the estate be distributed accordingly?

We Are Miles Ahead Of You- Bee Owner Tells Emmerson Mnangangwa

In the video footage below beekeeper, Gwazemba speaks to ZimEye:

“Prophet” Claims RBZ Is Haunted By Goblins

MDC Alliance Member Brutally Killed For Challenging Partisan Distribution Of Food

Hopewell Chin’ono’s Letter From Prison?

26-07-2020.

HARARE—I have made a deliberate and sensible choice not to lower my expectations in life and be part of the “Stay Positive” brigade and that decision is non-negotiable.

That nonsense of being asked to stay positive when there is nothing to be positive about is what made this country the absolute Shit Hole it is today!

At a social level, this “Shinga Mwanangu” claptrap has seen our sisters live miserable marriages generation after generation, whilst being pummeled daily by bullying and horrible husbands.

This is NO different to what the Emmerson Mnangagwa regime is doing to us by refusing to fully implement Political Reforms that would set this country on a strong economic footing.

What is there to be positive about in this country and why should citizens be asked to suffer whilst smiling at the outcomes of their tormentor’s cruelty, a tormentor that does not seek to change his ways?

We have no clean running water, no electric power, no jobs, no money, no political will to Reform from Emmerson Mnangagwa, no fuel, we have CORRUPTION galore, no health care, nepotism and mismanagement of State institutions continues, looting of State and national resources also continues unabated, fraud by the political elites remains standard and yet you expect Hopewell Chin’ono and the country to be positive?

Positive about what exactly?

We have no bright future under this regime and it is deliberately killing that future for generations to come, should we be smiling to that tragic reality?

NO! I will not lower my standards and join the “Stay Positive” brigade in a hole by making life there comfortable instead of getting out and seeking a normal human existence.

My father taught me that if you are in a hole, don’t make life there comfortable, GET OUT.

The elites have been making life in our hole comfortable for themselves by buying generators, buying solar equipment installations, drilling boreholes, buying 4 X 4s, seeking medical treatment from South Africa and the list goes on.

What my father taught me is what I have chosen to do, I have chosen to be on the right side of history, I have chosen to be with the people, and that requires me to work on getting out of that hole!

I have made this choice at a time when I could have been with the tormentors making millions like what the Regime Associates do daily, but that is not how I was brought up!

I might not live to see a better Zimbabwe through natural or unnatural circumstances, but I am at peace with the decisions that I have made, and I am not afraid to die for holding those principles.

Many have asked me about that probability as a price for speaking out, I respectfully ask you not to ask me anymore.

I know the price for speaking against a gangster State, but more importantly, I also know the huge price for keeping quiet.

It is a soft genocide that we are seeing everyday as we bury our loved ones dying in hospitals without medication.

We shall all die, but it is what we leave behind that will count many centuries after we are gone, so I am at peace with any such eventuality were it to happen to me.

It has happened to many others, and it shall happen to many others too until our politics becomes civilized.

I am a product of my existence and as such, what I say and what I do with my life is a reflection of how I was brought up by my parents!

We live under an incompetent and corrupt government that hires private jets for Vice Presidents, a Government that dishes out cars to traditional Chiefs when hospitals have NO ambulances!

A government that has left the poor to die from easily treatable diseases and turned public hospitals into death traps, and yet some amongst us have the nerve to ask me to stay positive?!

We have been asked to stay positive since 1997 when this crisis began, what has that positivity yielded for our people 22 years later?

Some make these calls whilst sitting in their Range Rovers or call me from air-conditioned mansions in Harare asking me to be positive.

It shows the huge and shameful disconnect between the Haves and the Have-Nots of this country and it also shows that whilst making their millions, the elites of this country will continue being happy cohabiting with this regime’s broken moral compass!

I want to put it on the record, until this government starts doing the right things, it’s Regime Associates and Apologists should Stop asking me to be positive!

It is nonsense and it is insensitive to ask me to be positive when I am seeing compatriots die daily because of this government’s shortcomings!

I do not seek to be accommodated at the feeding trough like many amongst us, that is why I turned down the offer to sit on a parastatal board when it was made last year, what I am after is a better life for all.

A life that gives all hard working citizens of this country a fair chance to live a decent life.

They will never get it at the rate at which this government is destroying our country, they will never get these opportunities if elites continue to seek accommodation instead of CHANGE in return to keeping their business interests going!

The selfishness of the elites is only truly self evident when those opportunities are blocked for their own kids, that is only when they join the masses in protesting.

But why would they complain when they were getting forex at 1 to 1 and when they don’t spend hours in fuel queues like the ordinary citizen?

There is a name for that, SELFISHNESS!

I come from Murewa where one of the first black millionaire businessmen in Rhodesia, Mr Kanyasa of the Farai Uzumba bus service fame chose principle over money.

He died in a Rhodesian jail fighting the racist colonial regime’s oppression and racist corruption.

There were many black businessmen like him who made profit not for profit’s sake.

Those are my heroes, those are the people that I look up to because they understood that being rich on the back of regime favors in a pool of government induced poverty is the equivalent of losing your soul to the devil.

If they had taken the “stay positive” route, Rhodesia would have stayed in colonial and racist shackles forever or much longer than was necessary.

Mr Kanyasa from Uzumba and of the Wafawanaka totem had the largest fleet of buses in Rhodesia, a hard working millionaire businessman.

He also had supermarkets and land, but he chose to support the liberation struggle giving freedom fighters clothes, food and money and allowing his buses to ferry them where need be.

He paid the ultimate price for it, but today he remains an icon of our liberation struggle and to this very day those with a moral compass remember him in their thoughts.

I have no such wealth like Mr Kanyasa, so why should I reduce and recede my integrity by tacitly supporting a broken regime when a man who could have thought of saving his millions chose to do the right thing?

I have questioned myself why black millionaires of today and political elites become so insensitive to the suffering of our people to the point of losing their moral compass and expecting someone who is going to bed on an empty stomach to be sensitive!

Positive about what?

“Being positive” doesn’t fix political and economic problems, it doesn’t fix crippling power shortages, drug shortages, cash shortages, fuel shortages or water shortages.

If it did we would have been living in a better country where the citizen was happy!

It shows that we have NO decent community and business leadership when people in privileged positions in our society ask us to be positive in the midst of an uncaring Regime.

It shows that we have NO leadership when the privileged define silence against a corrupt regime as patriotism!

This government has induced a chaotic existence in pursuit of easy pickings from things like fuel cartels and forex trading at the central bank, the RBZ!

This “stay positive” brigade is shameless because they speak from their own position of privilege and they are unconcerned by why we are not positive as long as their lives remain on track and their interests are protected?

The regime is aware of this weakness so it seeks to co-opt them and pretends to sort out their economic concerns through tinkering with the economy whilst the looting continues, and the regime also gives them futile seats on the table to feel special.

When truth, justice and common sense become secondary elements to one’s existence, when decency, empathy and compassion become tradable commodities, then the “stay positive” brigade becomes NO different to our persecutors!
It is aiding and abetting the suffering of our people in pursuit of business favors from this regime.

This regime should simply implement Political Reforms and stop asking for “positivity” from citizens groaning under a political crisis that manifests itself through economics, when it is giving us nothing in return!

If you so wish to be positive about this gross incompetence, corruption, nepotism and mismanagement, please do so on your own, but don’t attempt to guilty trip us into supporting the very people who have made our lives unbearable!

Stop asking me to be positive, Ask Mnangagwa to implement Political Reforms!

Avenues Clinic Workers Stage Job Action, Demand COVID-19 Tests, Risk Allowances

By A Correspondent| Nurses and and medical staff at Avenues Clinic are currently engaging in some kind of industrial action demanding among other things, COVID-19 tests for all workers, proper PPE and risk allowances in United States dollars.

This follows reports that eight workers tested positive for COVID-19 including one nurse who used to work from the casualty section.

The recent positive cases have forced the hospital to close its casualty section while relatives and friends of admitted patients have also been banned from visiting the medical centre.

According to a source close to the developments, workers reported for duty but refused to enter the premises, choosing to remain outside the gate while waiting for the top hierarchy to address them.

“There is a nurse who tested positive to COVID-19, she started feeling sick after reporting for night duty and was send back home for quarantine at home, but they did not test her though her symptoms were so visible,

“Her health was deteriorating very fast and she had to find a doctor on her own, took PCR tests at Harare hospital on her own. She tested positive and is currently admitted at Parirenyatwa hospital

“So workers are saying we are at risk and Avenues is not willing to take care of us when we get sick, as what happened to their colleague, they are demanding that all workers be tested for COVID-19. They also want proper PPE and risk allowance paid in USD,” said the source.

At the time of publishing, the workers were still outside Avenues clinic while the hospital administration had not acted on their requests or addressed them officially.

Efforts to get a comment from Avenues administration are still ongoing.

This is a developing story, keep refreshing for more details…

More Horrific Details Emerge On Abduction Of MDC Alliance Official

27-07-2020

Fresh details of the gruesome torture of MDC Alliance Youth Assembly National Executive member Takunda Madzana have emerged.

Madzana was subjected to intense torture by state agents.

He was forced to take off all his clothes before being thrown into a dam.

The torture executors then went on to use the electric shock method on his body- including private parts -in a bid to force Madzana to divulge information as to who was making #ZANU PF Must Go masks.

As if that was not enough, the abductors attempted to inject him with an unknown substance.

As we have said in our last statement, it is high time we fight fire by fire especially on abductions.

The regime has failed us as citizens, hence it’s time we take the initiative to protect ourselves.

July 31: “Bee Revolution” To Rescue Zimbabweans From Corruption ?

In the video footage below beekeeper, Gwazemba speaks to ZimEye:

“Nyuchi Kombai Tirume”- Is This How Soldiers Were Taught A Lesson By Killer Bees In Harare?

By Own Correspondent| Soldiers and police details were attacked by a swarm of killer bees in Kuwadzana 4 Harare recently.

Narrated a witness to the incident:

“There came a lorry full of police details and soldiers in Kuwadzana 4 Harare so everyone ran away.

Some of the soldiers were in civilian clothes and they were just arresting everyone and for you to run away, you ended up just being arrested.

In the past you would just notice that this person who has arrested me is a soldier or a police officer and that you have been arrested and are being taken to the police truck when you saw their boots.

Police boots

But today, they were just arresting everyone …so when they arrived at Kuwadzana 4 shops, people ran away leaving their groceries, the ones that they were selling including their firewood.

So there were bees that came from nowhere, they just flew and went underneath a cart.

The cart was like the ones that are used by vendors in towns when they are selling their wares. No one knows what time these bees made this cart their haven, but it should be today because this cart was at home last night and was taken to the shops this morning for it’s daily business.

So when people ran away after seeing that the soldiers in plain clothes were arresting people and taking them to their truck, they left their wares.

So these soldiers started confiscating people’s groceries and that is when they saw the cart and they started loading the confiscated goods and firewood into that cart.

Trouble began when they started to push the cart. The bees left their haven ,underneath the cart and started biting the soldiers. They were bitten so bad that they left the cart and started running away.

The soldiers were bitten and they ran back to their truck and they were wailing while the swarm of bees continued biting them. It was a swarm of bees. And when these soldiers who were fleeing the bees got to their truck, the bees continued biting them and those who were inside the truck were not spared either. They were all bitten.

The driver of the truck sped off but this did not help, the bees continued biting them.

BREAKING- PARLIAMENT SUSPENDS BUSINESS AS 2 MPs TEST COVID-19+.

SUSPENSION OF PARLIAMENT BUSINESS, 27TH JULY 2020

This serves to advise all Members of Parliament that the business of Parliament, including sittings of both Houses, Committee workshops, public hearings and site visits, has been suspended with immediate effect to a date to be advised.

This has been necessitated, regrettably, by the fact that two Members of Parliament have tested positive for COVID-19 while on official duty.

The suspension of business will allow us to deep-clean and disinfect the building while also guaranteeing the safety of Members, staff and members of the public who interface with the institution.

Members of the National Assembly who are still in their constituencies are advised to remain there until further notice….

Said speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda:

“Two members of Parliament tested COVID-19 positive including one journalist who was with the committee of transport while they were inspecting various ports of entry and Tollgates.”

MDC Alliance Youth Assembly National Executive member from Bulawayo Takunda Madzana is battling for life after a night of horror at the hands of state agents ahead of 31 July protests.

Madzana was abducted at his home by a group of unknown assailants who gruesomely fractured his body parts before dumping him in the bush.

Since the illegitimate Emmerson Mnangagwa’s regime took over through a coup in 2017 abductions have become a new norm whenever citizens raise their voices against their nervous conditions.

As an Assembly, we would like to make it clear that we are not going to be intimidated from speaking against corruption and its drivers.

Let it be known that the time is now ripe to return fire by fire especially on abductions.

ZCTU Threaten “Series Of Protests”

By Own Correspondent| The president of the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions, Peter Mutasa (PM) has hinted that workers will soon be embarking on a series of protests over poor salaries and working conditions.

He made the remarks during an interview with a local publication where he also bemoaned state brutality on workers and the citizenry.

He said:

We made a call for workers and citizens to liberate themselves through collective action. We also indicated that we are embarking on mobilisation of the workers around the country.

This is going on and we are almost there. We need all workers to unite first around uniform demands.

In the past, we had some discord, especially with some unions in public services, especially Zimbabwe Teachers Association who supported Zimdollar salaries.

Out of a nasty experience, all unions are now agreed on our demands and all are mobilising members towards collective action. An announcement of the dates and form is coming any time.

Unless our demands are met, we are proceeding with serious concerted national strikes and peaceful protest action.

Everyday will be a day of protest and every space an arena of struggle until we shrug off the oppressive chains of a brutal dictatorship.

The Zimbabwean government is now just like the colonial regime and even worse than (the late former President Robert) Mugabe’s last days.

It is sad that we ended up having such a government 40 years after independence.

More Firms Shut Their Doors As Employees Test COVID-19+?

A number of companies have in the recent past closed their premises over the coronavirus pandemic.

Some of them are Econet Wireless, the Environmental Management Agency (EMA), OK Norton and the National Social Security Authority (NSSA).

We present below NSSA’s statement of the temporary closure of NSSA House.

NSSA management wishes to advise stakeholders of the temporary closure of NSSA House in Harare with effect from Monday 27 July 2020 to allow for deep cleaning and decontamination following the incidence of a positive COVID-19 test for one of our employees.

This decision was taken in compliance with Section 6 at Statutory instrument 174 of 2020. Public Health (COV10-19 Prevention, Containment and Treatment) (Notional Lockdown) (Amendment) Order. 2020 (No. 14).

The affected employee was lost at NSSA House on the 10th of July 2020 due to the implementation of a decongestion programme that has seen the Authority operating at one-third of its staff complement.

Management has however resolved to implement the necessary precautionary measures.

The Authority is also conducting contact tracing to facilitate testing for individuals who may have been in contact with the affected employee.

All other NSSA offices are safe and Shut continue to operate under the Ministry Of Health and Child Care COVID-I9 guidelines. We sincerely apologise for any inconveniences caused by the temporary Closure.

Stakeholders shall be kept informed Of the situation via various media channels. including our darted media platforms @nssazw on Facebook and on Twitter. as well as our website: www.nssn.org.zw.

Bushiri Trial Kicks Off In Pretoria

Bushiri

The fraud and money laundering trial against self-proclaimed prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife, Mary, kicks off at the Pretoria high court today.

Bushiri and Mary briefly appeared in the Pretoria specialised commercial crimes court on last year.

The couple, who head the multi-thousand member church, are facing charges of money laundering, fraud and contravention of the Prevention of the Organised Crime Act.

In the initial appearance, thousands of supporters gathered outside the court to support their “spiritual father”. Most were clad in T-shirts bearing their leader’s face.

Ephraim Nyondo, spokesperson for the church, said then, the support showed how much Bushiri was loved.

“People from Angola, Malawi, Israel and the US came here today. It shows the power and the love the people have for their leader. They always support him because he is their voice.”

Similar crowds may not be possible this time due to the enforcement of strict Covid-19 lockdown regulations.

Edith Opperman Maternity Clinic Shut Down

Edith Opperman Maternity Clinic in Mbare over the weekend shut down leaving scores of pregnant women stranded.

The clinic shut its doors after a number of nurses (it’s not clear how many) tested positive for the virus.

Dozens of pregnant women some of them in early stages of labour were over the weekend seen standing outside the shut gates of the institution as they peered inside.

The guard at the place said he did not know when the clinic would reopen.

This is not the first time the plight of pregnant women has taken a back seat due to some crisis. For a good part of last year Edith Opperman’s maternity hospital was not taking patients due to equipment shortages and a crippling nurse strike. This forced these women to risk their lives in home births and makeshift shelters.

Heathrow Airport Employs Robots To Fight Covid-19 Infections

BBC

Disinfection robots have been installed at Heathrow Airport as part of measures to help keep the passengers and staff safe from the coronavirus.

Previously used to tackle hospital acquired infections, the machines move through the airport terminals disinfecting high risk touch points like bathrooms and lifts.

The robots use ultraviolet (UV-C) light to kill viruses and stop them replicating.

The airport has also brought in other features including anti-viral wraps on escalators, and trolleys and passenger temperature checks.

Covid-19 Ravaging Bulawayo’s High Density Suburbs

AUTHORITIES are considering stiffer suburb lockdowns amid a recent spike of confirmed Covid-19 cases in some high-density areas of Bulawayo.

With over 587 locally transmitted cases in Bulawayo, the government is considering clamping down on unnecessary movements in specific western suburbs which have become COVID-19 hotspots in the City of Kings.

The provincial COVID-19 taskforce chaired by Local Government and Public Works Minister Honourable July Moyo convened a special meeting this weekend and expressed concern over the surge in local transmissions in Bulawayo.

“At the beginning here in Bulawayo COVID-19 was more centred in the eastern suburbs, but now it has moved to the west where there is a concentration of people. Once we analyse that there is a concentration in one area, yes the President has announced a new lockdown system, maybe can look at particular localities so that we can isolate it and lock it down so that it doesn’t spread,” he said.

Bulawayo City Council Health Services Director Dr Edwin Sibanda said the recent COVID-19 storm calls for rapid testing and constant updating of data so that authorities make informed decisions.

“We have Cowdry Park with very high figures, also Magwegwe, Nkulumane and parts of Emganwini, the map that we are generating on a daily basis, we must update it as quickly as possible as we improve the turnaround time for specimen collection and issuing of results…,” he said.

The taskforce also appealed to the public to continue weeding out illegal returnees who are suspected to be part source of the recent upsurge.

Mnangagwa’s Self Confessed Most Loyal Son Wants To Meet Nelson Chamisa

Killer Zivhu

Dismissed ZANU PF parliamentarian Killer Zivhu who claims to have remained loyal to President Emmerson Mnangagwa says he wants to meet opposition leader Nelson Chamisa.

Zivhu was fired from both ZANU PF and parliament on recommendations of the ZANU PF provincial leadership after he wrote on social media that he wanted to see Mnangagwa and Chamisa Get involved in dialogue.

Deapite his dismissal, he went on to confess his undying love and loyalty to Mnangagwa.

Last week he was heavily criticised and insulted on social media when he said that Zimbabweans should not demonstrate against Mnangagwa on July 31 but give him a chance to revive the country.

Below is his latest Tweet expressing his undying love for Mnangagwa and willingness to meet Chamisa.

Zim Authorities Shutting Down CBDs While Mass Mingling And Partying Spreads Covid-19 In The Townships

File Picture of residents in a high density suburb queue for water

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Zimbabwe has sped past the 2500 mark with the number of those who have been confirmed to have died from the disease still standing at 34.

According to the Ministry of Health update, the country recorded an astounding 78 cases with 74 being local cases.

As expected most coronavirus cases have been recorded in towns and cities although escapees from quarantines have also worked tirelessly to bring Covid-19 even to the most remote villages.

Authorities are obsessed over entry into the CBD While in the early days of March the police would regularly patrol lockdown rules were being followed that has not been the case ever since restrictions were relaxed in March.

People hold house parties, birthday parties and church services in defiance of the lockdown provisions. It is extremely rare to find people wearing masks in their neighbourhood roads in the high density suburbs at least.

The Ministry of Health has conceded multiple times that there are mysterious sources of infection they could not identify.

This line is not included in the latest publication so it’s not clear whether they have identified these sources or not.

However, the way people are acting in residential areas requires the authorities to rethink their current enforcement strategy which is too focused on the CBD.

July 31 Protests: George Charamba Says Grieving Chamisa Is A Coward

George Charamba

President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s spokesperson, George Charamba has attacked MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa for taking a back seat in the run up to the July 31 protests.

In a series of tweets at the weekend, Charamba said the vibrant opposition leader was a coward for allegedly using fellow opposition leader Jacob Ngarivhume as a frontman in calling for the July 31 protests.

Charamba also blasted Chamisa for appointing Welshman Ncube to act as party president during his indefinite mourning period.

In his official Twitter handle #Jamwanda2, Charamba mocked Chamisa for tactfully evading censure over the planned #31July protests.

Charamba also said Chamisa avoided appointing Tendai Biti, co-MDC A vice president, because he viewed the aggressive politician as a major threat to his job.

“Ever wondered why Nelson Chamisa chose to hand over reigns to the insipid WELSHMAN NCUBE as he grieved over loss of his dear mother? Or why the WELSH man got mired in TRUST FUNDS controversy soon after the appointment…Here we go: The US Embassy in Harare whose govt has always rooted for Tendai Biti as safe bet for American interests here, had hoped to use Ngarivhume and his pseudo-leadership of July 31 disturbances,” Charamba said.

“…to re-launch Tendai Biti as the new leader of MDC-Alliance, with the impulsive Jobho Sikhala as the TONG for handling hot pieces. Both men are America’s centurions, Biti designated to play the Philosopher-King, while Sikhala is the Hotspur of the equation.

“The choice of Ngarivhume – another of America’s men whose roots are in Chipinge – was the right face for that operation which would have consigned Nelson Chamisa to the dustbin. Previous to Ngarivhume, Americans had hoped for the Malawian cleric, Shingi Munyeza, who was later dropped for being inorganic and tainted after hopes of washing him clean by goading ED to fire him from PAC failed. The key calculation was to ensure that the well-healed insurrection be led by a political nearly-man who would not prove a runaway, thus securing Tendai Biti’s take-over.”

Charamba added, “Nelson Chamisa got wind of it, forcing him to counter that by appointing the man from Wales, while dodging brickbats of violent demonstrations under the plausible cover of ‘in mourning’.

“The young man doesn’t want risks, which is what riles Americans whose wish is confrontational politics in Zimbabwe.

“Soon after, and to checkmate this counter, the Biti group used a wing of G-40 hoping to stop the man from Wales in his tracks!!”

“Unfortunately both sides misread the macroenvironment, and scenario-build on a hesitant State. How wrong!!! It’s now back to drawing board, banking on international pressure and nursing of different projects of inspiring opposition and dissent, a fraction of which has been subcontracted to Dumisani Muleya and his Beverley Court project which will not take off zvayo!!! #handeitione!!!.”

Air Zimbabwe Risky Jet Back In The Sky To Bring Back More Returnees

State Media

THE Air Zimbabwe Boeing 767-200ER stuck in Bangkok to undergo an engine change is now back in service collecting stranded South Africans and Zimbabweans to bring them back home.

The plane, under charter to Maple Aviation Limited, flew first to Kuala Lumpur after being certified as flight-worthy before flying across the South China Sea to Guangzhou in China where it collected mainly South Africans wanting to return home and bringing them back to Kuala Lumpur.

Last night it was expected to make a second trip from Kuala Lumpur to China, this time to Wuhan, to pick up more Zimbabweans and South Africans.

It will return first to Kuala Lumpur to consolidate the passenger list before flying back to Harare via Johannesburg, most likely on Wednesday.

The plane underwent its needed engine change in Bangkok on Thursday and Friday and was certified to fly again by the Thai and Zimbabwe civil aviation authorities and Boeing. The engine change was undertaken with the help of Thai and Bangkok-based Japanese Nippon Airways engineers under supervision of the two Air Zimbabwe engineers.

Ten Air Zimbabwe engineers originally supposed to undertake the refitting were refused entry into Thailand on health quarantine grounds by Thai authorities, but the Nippon Airways engineers familiar with the plane type were available.

It Will Not Be One Day, “Everyday Will Be A Day Of Protest,” ZCTU Fires Warning Shots

Peter Mutasa

ZIMBABWE Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) president Peter Mutasa says the labour body will announce a series of dates for fresh protests after the July 31 anti-corruption march.

In an interview with NewsDay, Mutasa said the workers will demonstrate everyday until their demands are met.

“We made a call for workers and citizens to liberate themselves through collective action. We also indicated that we are embarking on mobilisation of the workers around the country. This is going on and we are almost there. We need all workers to unite first around uniform demands. Mnangagwa Appoints Own Niece Zim Govt Consul To Scotland | EXCLUSIVE…..

By A Correspondent| Just as ZimEye exclusively predicted early last year, ZANU PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa, has appointed is own neice, Lydia Heather Mudhari to the post of Zimbabwe consul to Scotland.

The development comes as Mnangagwa appeared as one of those encouraging Scotland to demand independence from the UK.

Heather Lydia Mudhari

Last year sources inside ZANU PF UK confirmed the development to ZimEye as some threatened to “pour jecha” on Mnangagwa’s niece.

Zimbabwe is opening the consulate at a time when it is closing numerous embassies across the world, where is the logic?, ZANU PF sources fumed speaking to ZimEye.

“Mudhari has been assigned the post, and it now awaits public announcement,” an impeccable source told ZimEye back then.

For a person to be appointed an ambassador, they need to have first undergone special training for over a year and sources questioned why Heather Mudhari has been rushed to the post without the requisite training.

Our undercover investigations involved a test using a real case of a Glasgow based woman desperate for an ETD to travel for her mother’s funeral in Harare.

ZimEye has exposed how the consulate service was now already functioning by last year April and the official position was only twisted after senior ZANU PF officials noticed that ZimEye has opened an investigation.

“Where and when did she do training for the post?,” a top ZANU PF member questioned.

Mudhari was at the time contacted and her tone of voice sounded “street level, rough” while responding.

She did not deny that she now carries the title, “ambassador.”

“Can you call the embassy in London” she said in response after answering to the salutation which was repeated thrice to her ears.

She then abruplty dropped the phone while the client was still speaking.

A year later, the proof has popped out and Mudhari is now heading to Scotland.

Mudhari has confirmed to the state owned Sunday Mail all this is true as ZimEye accurately revealed in April last year.

“I was recently appointed the Honorary Consul General for the Republic of Zimbabwe to Scotland by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade,” she said.

“I have become the first Zimbabwe Representative to Scotland and joined the Zimbabwe UK diplomatic Mission led by His Excellency Colonel Rtd Ambassador Christian Katsande, Zimbabwe High Commissioner to the United Kingdom. My appointment was accepted and acknowledged by the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office in a letter that congratulated me for the new role and I am now recognised as a member of the Diplomatic Consular Corps in Scotland.”

“Dead” 99 Year Old Gogo Resurrects Moments Before Burial

Mourners gathered at the home of the late Nkazanyana Ncube at Kwine Village in Tsholotsho

A 99-year-old granny from Tsholotsho, Matabeleland North left villagers shocked after she moved her body just as she was about to be buried.

Mrs Nkazanyana Ncube from Kwine village under Chief Gampu who was buried yesterday, ‘resurrected’ twice as villagers attemped to bury her.

She died at her homestead and was not certified dead by a doctor.

Mrs Ncube is said to have died on Saturday at about 3AM and resurrected as fellow villagers were about to bury her the same day forcing them to take her back into the house.

Villagers who had taken her ‘body’ which was wrapped in a blanket to the grave, noticed movements as they prepared to lower the body into the grave and immediately suspended the burial.

At about 1AM yesterday, they discovered her body was ‘cold again’ and when they resumed burial preparations, she started moving her body again.

She finally passed on at around 6AM yesterday leading to her burial at around 11AM.

Relatives said they did not panic as they believed that as a traditionalist her ‘resurrection’ was being triggered by ancestors.

A Chronicle news crew visited Kwine village yesterday and villagers spoke of their shock saying nothing like that had been experienced before.

Family spokesperson Mr Thabson Ndlovu said his aunt died and ‘resurrected’ twice.

“She has been unwell for quite a long time. Besides old age, she suffered a stroke that affected her right side. The situation deteriorated a few days ago as she could no longer speak. On Saturday at about 3AM she died. We started burial arrangements, we informed the village head and burial preparations started as villagers gathered and started digging her grave. As we were about to bury her, we noticed movements of the blanket she was wrapped in. The ‘body’ had been removed from the house and placed just near the grave. That is when one of the villagers said there was movement in the blanket. She seemed breathing,” said Mr Ndlovu.

He said the body was taken into the house where she died again at about 1AM and when they resumed burial preparations, they again noticed movements of the blanket confirming she was alive.

Mr Ndlovu said at 6am they were planning to take her to the local clinic.

“We were very worried as we didn’t know what was happening. We were planning to take her to the clinic and we had even hired a car to take her to hospital from the clinic. Normally, it’s elderly women who assess and make pronouncements on deaths but following those two episodes even us men entered the house to check for ourselves. When she was pronounced dead, her body was really cold, but later you would feel that it was warm, confirming that she was alive. So, we really got puzzled,” said Mr Ndlovu.

He however said villagers did not panic when Mrs Ncube rose from the dead.

“We did not panic partly because we believe her resurrection was triggered by amadlozi as it happened when we were conducting rituals. She was a traditionalist possessed by ancestral spirits,” he said.

A villager Mrs Tede Moyo said it was her first time to hear of someone dying before rising again.

“This is really worrying. I can imagine if she was in a coffin, she could have been buried alive. This left most us shocked that someone can be confirmed dead when he or she is alive. We’ve never heard of such a miracle before. If it wasn’t for some minor works that had to be carried out at the grave before burial, she could have been buried alive,” said Mrs Ncube.

Kwine village head Mr Elijah Vundla said he was convinced that Mrs Ncube died and rose from the dead.

“We were even planning to consult sangomas because this is not something that we are accustomed to. We thought that since she was traditionalist, there were things that needed to be done. But she then died peacefully this morning but we had to delay burial just to be sure,” said Mr Vundla.

Acting Mpilo Central Hospital clinical director Dr Xolani Ndlovu, said it was difficult to express a medical opinion on such a matter because the body was not taken to a health facility.

He said medically, the person was not dead but added that in old age there may be fluctuations that may result in one not being conscious.

“So, in medical terms, we can’t say the person was dead. There is no proof. Clinically if someone is dead, there is no brain activity. Unlike the heart, if the brain stops working, it can’t be restarted,” said Dr Ndlovu.

It’s quite normal in old people and those people who suffer from liver failure or liver cirrhosis. Even people who are diabetic can suffer from the same problem due to the fluctuating sugar levels which may leave one unconscious. So, when sugar levels fluctuate, a person can easily drift into unconsciousness and consciousness. In this case probably she lost consciousness and had a very low heart beat which made her relatives and villagers believe that she was dead and then bury her. This is why we encourage that qualified doctors should be the only ones to certify deaths.”
