Terrence Mawawa, Chiredzi|A cunning local man killed his father’s dog and sold the meat to unsuspecting patrons after convincing them it was game he had hunted.
It has emerged that Noel Kujongonya of Mkwasine Chiredzi, killed his father’s dog, last week, and approached nearby revellers who were sitting near traditional braai stand (mbaura) at Mkwasine, and sold the meat to them.
“He told the patrons that he had gone in the forest on a hunt and killed game. He sounded confident such that people scrambled to buy the meat. People went on to braai the meat. I am now disgusted knowing that I ate dog meat,”said a patron.
The matter came to light when Kujongonya’s father woke up the following day and discovered that his dog was missing.
After a few days he found the missing dog’s head and a blood stained knife in the garden. When he further investigated the matter he was told his son was spotted at the shops selling what he claimed to be game.
“When we confronted him, his son did not deny that he had duped people into buying dog meat. Asked why he did it ,he said he had to do it because he was broke and he needed some cash,” a relative of the family explained.
“We took him to the police but he was released after they could not find an appropriate charge against him.
The police said he did not break any law. Noel leads a reckless life and many people know him as an irresponsible young man,”said Kujongonya’s relative.

Dog meat is a delicacy even closer to home in Namibia with donkey meat being more preferred than beef. There is nothing wrong with this meat except that it is taboo in Zimbabwe. We are disgusted just as all these people are disgusted that we eat derere ,madora ,ishwa etc etc…..
Anyway, in a year of food shortage mankind can eat that kind of meat ! A look East change!
